Ethernet ports not working.

Q: Ethernet ports not working.

We cant get the Ethernet ports to work on our new motherboard we had just got a Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 6 and we cant get internet. we already tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them, getting the drivers from the gigabyte web site, we tried wipeing the hard drive and reinstalling all the drivers from disk from the motherboard. We tried replacing the Ethernet cord, using a different router and we tried a different os "windows 7" too we are currently running windows 10 can anyone help?

Preferred Solution: Ethernet ports not working.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Ethernet ports not working.

After you do a clean install of Windows 7 or Windows 10 in that computer, you need to install the drivers for its primary devices(chipset, graphics, audio, wireless , ethernet, etc.).
The chipset driver needs to be installed first before any of the other drivers are installed so the Windows operating system can properly detect and configure the computer's devices.

The "Support & Downloads" section will provide you with the necessary drivers.

Vista Ultimate 64-bit, ASUS Rampage Formula motherboard, USB mouse and keyboard connected in back ports.

Two things happened: Avira antivirus warned me of some threats which I either ignored or deleted. Windows Update had some updates ready (although I'm not sure if it updated).

I turned off my PC for a couple of hours, turned it back on and realized that my USB keyboard was not working on the password screen.

I eventually unplugged it from the back and plugged it into the front, where it worked. However, my USB mouse did not work when plugged into the second front port, nor did it work when plugged into the front port in which the keyboard worked.

I accessed System Restore using my keyboard and restored to one day previously. When it finished, both keyboard and mouse worked, although I got a pop-up message alerting me that the "drivers for your device could not be installed." When I clicked "OK," the mouse stopped working again.

I have checked BIOS and both mouse and keyboard are recognized, so it does not appear to be a hardware issue.

I have an Inspiron M531R-5535 and about 3 days ago I noticed that none of the USB ports were working when I tried to back up my phone.  The next day, the Ethernet port failed.  It is not the wire, as it works on a different computer.  My WIFI is working fine, but it is really slow, so I would love to be able to get the port working again.  I am extremely unknowledgeable about computers, so any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Hi, we've just moved into an apartment and have realized the two ethernet ports in each of our bedrooms aren't working. We contacted our real estate agency, who first told us to "buy a new one", but after some further explanation told us they would get back to us tomorrow on whether it is our problem or theirs. So, in the meantime, I was hoping you guys could offer any help or explanations or things to explore so that we can fix it on our own.

I looked around the internet and found that there is usually a central hub where these wires come together behind a panel somewhere. I've checked all the bedroom closets but didn't see anything. There is another closet with the hot water heater and something else but I didn't see any wall panels. There is another large panel in the wall by the laundry room with the air filter, and above that are a few electric charts and labels that cover something but it says it is dangerous to remove with the power on. There is another closet on our balcony with a cable box inside, but it is locked with a termination lock.

We have cable internet though Northland if that matters.

Okay well heres my problem peoples. I restarted my PC today, you know, start > turn off computer > restart and when I restarted my internet connection went. (Note: I have 2 comps on a router so im using the other one right now) I checked all connections, their fine, I checked all settings, their fine, theres no reason at all I can see that would stop my internet from working. Oh and I might add that the network connection I had on it, the comp said it was still connected, but it gave some really weird dodgy IP address thats completely nothing to do with my network....

Then I saw it, you know the 2 lights that light up at the back of your ethernet port? well nether of them were on at all. They didnt come on when a wire was connected, or when it was disconnected. So I think it may be a hardware situation here.....

I only bought this PC a few weeks back and if we need to pay to get it repaired my parents will hurt me lol (not litterally ) But yeah I seriously need to get it working.

Oh and one more thing that happened at the same time the internet stopped working, you know after you log on on the windows xp logon screen? it shows the "WELCOME" text on the blue background thingy? Well it shows that welcome, and stays there for about a minute before actually loading up my desktop! In that time CTRL+ALT+DEL etc dont work ether. I believe the 2 are related, surely they have to be?

I really appreciate any info anyone can give me

A:Ethernet ports not working & logon screens slow

Yes, they could be related.

The easiest thing to try is to take the ethernet cable from the computer that works, but keep it in the same router port, and plug it into the computer that does not conenct and see if the lights come on.

You can check on the connection status by going to Control Panel -> Network Connections -> and the selecting the correct Local Area Connection.

You can also go into Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager and check to see if there is a driver problem. You can even uninstall the card and reinstall it if you have the driver on CD. Make sure you note any settings for the connection first so if you need to you can restore them later.

If its a bad card and it came with the computer then it should be a warranty issue if it comes down to that.

Hello, The 2 USB ports on my Idea Pad sometimes do not recognize a device plugged into it (mostly a USB drive or peripherals like a keyboard or mouse). This generally happens if I switch peripherals/external drives while the computer is on. I have to shut down the computer in order for the USB ports to recognize the devices, which is a great annoyance. Also, a recent development is that my Ethernet cable port is not working at all, even after shut downs. The same cable works on my wife's laptop, so it is not a faulty cable. My notebook is still under warranty, so I believe I will need these problems fixed in a service center as these are not software issues (at least I think). Any advice or directions of what to do? I have also had trouble with the computer not wanting to shut down at times, and the restart capability seems to never work.

Based on this info does it seem likely that the front ports themselves are faulty?

You might check to see if the case end of the USB cables are properly plugged into the front panel holding the headers. Some board need more than one brand of USB drivers, Renesas, NEC, etc.

I'd be most grateful for your kind help and advice about how to conntect an old PC to a wireless broadband home network. I had set up wireless broadband at home on a laptop. Next I added a second laptop to the network just by entering the password that I had used when first setting up the wireless service. This PC does not have a wireless adapter nor ethernet ports. Kindly advise if addition of a wireless adapter card into a vacant motherboard PCI slot would be sufficient to extend internet access to this PC. I just bought one of these switches to connect to my soon-to-arrive router.
I can tell if the computer across the other side of the house is on or off by looking at the link/act and 100M lights. They are on if the computer's on, and off if it's not.

However, with my computer, even if it's off, the link and 100M lights stay lit... Any idea on how to stop this as it would be handy to see from a distance.

I have an interesting problem. For reasons only known to God, my Ethernet port simply quit working. Before going to work in the morning, it worked fine. I turned off the PC. Now, I’m confused as to why the onboard Ethernet port refuses to reset. - If i can have up to 4 ports, how can I supply those?

I'm thinking a PCI Card...

Onboard LAN
LAN Chipset 4 x Realtek 8111C

they should have access ports on the rear for standard RJ45 cable connections.

I have a desktop with Windows XP and a laptop with Windows Vista.

Originally a DSL modem was connected to a Netgear wireless router, which was connected to my desktop by ethernet. The desktop also had a wireless receiver.

A couple of weeks ago I left for vacation and powered down both of my machines. When I returned and booted them up I found that my ethernet port on the desktop had failed.
The port showed up as okay in the control panel and ipconfig.
To make the diagnosis simpler, I bypassed the wireless router and connected the modem directly to the desktop.
No light on the desktop ethernet port when connected to the modem.
Replaced the ethernet cable, still no light.
Connected the modem to the laptop and everything worked fine.

I figured the port on my desktop had died, so I bought a new ethernet card and installed it, but I get exactly the same result with the new ethernet port.

So my question is: What could cause all of the ethernet ports on my desktop to fail? Is this a driver problem or something wrong with the motherboard.

Thank you.

Well I have heard that if you have two eithernet ports on your MOBO then you can put in two eithernet cords and assign one port for upload and the other for download. How do I do this?

A:Dual ethernet ports on Mobo?

No, it doesn't work like this. Also, it would be totally pointless. First, ethernet interfaces are full duplex, meaning that even a single ethernet port has separate wires for "download" and "upload". Second, your internet connection is orders of magnitude slower than ethernet, so any adapter bonding would be useful only for connections over the LAN.

Posted: Today at 9:17 pm Post subject: 2 Ethernet Ports. Using one for internet, other for local??

Hey, I have 2 lan cards in my computer.

Lan1: Connected to Internet in Wall
Lan2: Connected via Ethernet Bridge (Software: DD-WRT) to other router.

But I want to use Lan1 only for the internet, and Lan2 (DD-WRT Enabled on Both routers) for Local Area Network Usage (Example: Streaming Music, Video on Right now, I think Windows uses either only Lan2 or both network adapters for internet-usage. Like when I download a file, browse the internet, etc....
I'm limited in Bandwidth, so I only don't want Windows to use Lan2's internet, I have shared music and videos on my computer, and they can only be accessed through other computers connected to the Network LAN2 is on. Not only that, but that Adapter is enabled, my internet and downloads are slow (like it's using LAN2's internet)

Is there a way to do this? Specify which adapter to use for the internet (firefox, ie, etc) Via DD-WRT (the router) or Windows itself?

I have a laptop that i received from my father about 5 months or so, it's pretty old because it was the vista model and I usually play games like LoL, SC Brood war, Warcraft 3 and Osu. Today I was using my laptop and i went away to clean my pet's cage then when i came back, my screen was black unnaturally. I thought that it was just some random problem that wasn't really that harmful until I tried turning the computer back up again with surprising results. When I booted the laptop again it took me to the screen where you got to chose whether you can solve what the problem was that made the computer suddenly shut down or just boot regularly. I tried to ust boot it up regularly when suddenly it rebooted again. It repeated this process about 5 times when I had enought and got a bit frustrated and slapping my laptop. It then showed up bluescreens for the next 4 hours or so. I plugged everything out that was on the laptop, my Blue Snowball microphone, Royche Optical mouse, ethernet cable and my Sony Stereo Headphones MDR- XD200. I'm currently living in a dorm room that has two Ethernet ports on each wall, two for myself and two for my roommate. I am trying to get my pc and xbox both hooked up because the wifi here is really spotty but one of the two ports, on both walls, doesn't work. It's my understanding that an Ethernet cable wouldn't fit into a phone jack so I'm assuming it is an Ethernet hookup because the cable fits into both ports and one does give me internet access just fine, I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what's going on.

A:Two ethernet ports in the wall but one doesn't work?

There could be a couple of reasons for this situation. Oftentimes when cabling jobs are undertaken, they may install a two-port (or more) plate on a wall. However, that's not to say all ports are wired up at the time; it could be left for a later date, subject to requirements. Another possibility is the cable exists, but it isn't hooked in through a switch at the other end to provide connectivity.

You could either approach the management and ask them about connectivity, just in case there is a wiring error. Alternatively, you could purchase a cheap switch and use this for connecting additional devices from the working port.

So I just did a clean install of XP on my system and I've been having some very difficult problems setting it up. The motherboard is an Abit IP35 Pro, and I keep putting in the disk to install the drivers and everything seems to go smoothly. I'm using XP Home edition. The computer worked more or less fine for several years and it began to have problems before I wiped it, but I thought they were merely software problems. I've installed Windows SP2 on the computer.

The issue is that even after installing the Intel chipset drivers from the CD, the computer doesn't seem to recognize either the USB drivers or the Ethernet cable that is plugged into it. This makes it especially hard to transfer files to the computer. I don't know if this is normal or not, but when I plug mice and flash drives into the computer that have lights on them, they don't light up as long as Windows is running (when the computer is in BIOS they light up fine). In the device manager screen, the PCI bus device is missing (it has a yellow error signal on it), but if I try to update driver from the CD, it has no effect. I also don't know if this is normal, but I cannot find any "Universal Serial Bus" devices throughout the device manager. I hope all this makes it simpler.

Thanks so much for your help!

A:Abit IP35 Pro not recognizing USB or ethernet ports, drivers issue?

Um, does anyone at least know a test I could run to find out whether this is a software or hardware issue? That's my main issue.

I have a linksys model wrt54gl v1.1 and I am using Windows Vista 32bit Home Edition. I have a pc connected to the router directly through an ethernet plus a laptop, 2 iphones and a blackberry that get wireless internet from it. 2 days ago wireless stopped working. The internet on the pc connected to the router by ethernet is still working and the power, WLAN, ethernet, and internet lights are all lit green. The internet and ethernet lights flash when data is being transferred but the the WLAN light is not flashing. I have restored the router to factory default but it is still not working. The phones and laptop are not detecting any wireless network present. Hope you can help.

I have restored the router to factory default but it is still not working.Click to expand...

The only other thing to try is to unplug the router for a few hours. You could also try another factory reset.

All USB ports on my Dell Inspiron 530 stopped working and therefore no keyboard or mouse control available to work on recovery.  Is there any way to work around this problem? Although the computer was updated to Windows 7 Pro some time ago, I do still have both the Win 7 discs and the OEM discs that came with the computer. Any suggestions?

A:USB Ports not working and no PS2 ports available

Get a live linux boot CD or DVD and see if the ports work outside the os.
Or Disconnect the hard drive and see if you can F2 into bios.

Today i just bought some ear phones, with a connected mouth piece. Problem is that my two front ports are dodgy for the microphone and headphones. So if i put the jacks from my headset into the back, i have to take out my speaker input.. Is there any way i can have the speakers in, and the headset and revert back to each without going at the back and changing them? Any help appreciated

A:Headset not working, front ports not working

First, its possible inside your computer case, there is just a loose cable that is causing the problem with the front jacks on your computer. Check inside, right behind where the earphone jack is for a cord running to somewhere on your motherboard or Sound card.

If that dosn't work,
Do you have a CD/DVD player with a earphone jack and have you tried that?
Assuming its the port that is bad itself and not just loose, you could check in at radio shack, bestbuy, or newegg.com for a cord that splits the output. If you get lucky you might find one with a chanel select that will allow you to swap which recieves the output.
The other option, from radio shack I got a Bluetooth USB adapter for $20 and a good pair of BT earphones, again purchased online for cheap (I recommend samsung BT500 earphones).

Another alternative, my speakers have a earphone jack in them as well (the computer speakers, as well as the reciever I currently have my sound card plugged into).

If you have a quality home theater set up, for $80 on new egg you can pick up a good soundcard with optical, Coax, and AV out which you plug into your home entertainment center that again will allow you to use headphones.
Good Luck
