Solved: Can't type numbers in Windows Eight

Q: Solved: Can't type numbers in Windows Eight

Now my numbers appear as letters, and I can't figure out how to get them back -- looks like capitals of numbers like exclamation points won't print either.

There must be a setting that I haven't found. Any suggestions? My passwords won't work without numbers...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an XP SP3 desktop machine that suddenly will only type numbers 1 throught 0 in order, no matter what key I hit. So if I were randomly hit keys it would show up as 123456789012345678901234 and so on. It does the same thing with multiple keyboards, USB and PS2, as well as safe mode. Anyone have any ideas?? Thanks in advance for any replies!

Came home today and computer wouldn't type numbers. Num lock was on but turning off didn't help.

Kid had been playing games today.

Searched online and microsoft support had this recommendation for XP:

Turn off the MouseKeys accessibility feature. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, type access.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. Click the Mouse tab, and then click to clear the Use MouseKeys check box.
3. Click OK.

I followed those instructions, rebooted and now i can type the numbers 5 and 6 but not seven or any other numbers. I do type a domain containing 5 and 6 from time to time and it will be in my cache so maybe that's why i can type these numbers only.

Any advice on how to cure this?

Dear Bleeping Computer Technicians, Can you please help me regain control over my computer?
My computer is infected and my antivirus protection (norton security suite) seems to be tampered. Norton found infected software installed on both of the computers on my network. Hey everybody.

I don't know if the title is a good one for this problem, but here goes.

I have a column that has numbers in this format: 54321-1234

Now, I want to take off the last 4 numbers, and the dash, from all the numbers in the column, using a formula. So that the output would be: 54321.

I want it so the first 5 numbers stay the same, but the dash and last 4 are gone. Is this possible?

I have Windows XP on a Dell Desktop computer. Avast is my primary and always active antivirus program and I have Scotty too. I occasionally also do manual scans with Malwayebytes, ESET, Iobit Malware Fighter and Advanced System Care. The browsers I use are Firefox, Opera and IE automatically kicks in only when I open up my AOL mail. They were all in use when this happened. I have a Wordpress website hosted by GoDaddy and the email incident described below was from that email address. And I have KeyScrambler that works when I use Firefox and the AOL account that uses IE, but it doesn't work when I use Opera.

So last night, while on a website I access with Opera that I visit frequently, a little window popped up saying something to the effect that someone was trying to download something and did I want it to do that? I immediately pressed NO (panicked), and don't know what it was. I have something, don't know which program it comes from, that always asks me if I'll accept cookies, which I always say NO to, but this little window wasn't that one.

At some point, and truthfully I can't recall if it was after this incident or not, I replied to an email connected to my GoDaddy Wordpress website I access from Firefox, that was part of a back and forth correspondence with a friend. I pressed Reply like I always do, and off it went. Went back to the website I was visiting on Opera and when I checked my email again, there were two MailerDaemon messages... Read more

Hello all,
The problem started a few weeks ago on my wife's Lenovo Ideapad Y550 with Windows Home Premium 32 bit. We noticed that at logon the computer said that the password was in error. I checked Caps and Num locks and still got the error. So I created a password reset flash drive. When I go to the password reset screen and type in the 'hint' field, the the numbers 0123456789 repeat continually regardless of which alphabet or number key is hit.
I can reset the computer and it'll fix itself. Then I can logon.
Once it has done this while typing in quicken. I clicked on a new window and back again and the keyboard worked fine.
Things I've tried:
1. Update the driver: for some reason under keyboard properties (in admin acct.) update driver button is greyed out and cannot be selected.
2. I adjusted the language settings to enforce English at the welcome screen.
3. virus scan: I have a spy sweeper, firewall, and virus scan installed and they come up clean.

My wife said she got a message about the keyboard before this started but didn't remember what it said.

Please advise,
Thank you

A:Numbers 0-9 repeat when I type anything, login error.

i hope the driver file of the keyboard is corrupted by some means...., don't go for update...

go to device manager n find keyboard, just right click on it and give uninstall. nw remove the keyboard from its port and plug it and restart your system....
windows wil detect your keyboard and it ll install the driver automatically... it shuld work fine.. ( I'm assuming there is no issues with your keyboard (i.e..) no hardware issues)

Hi everyone and Happy New Year!

Can you advise me why CloudFlare gets in the way so much. It seems to be when I use a VPN and click on a link. For example I clicked on a link in a post in this forum, and instead of the link, I get CloudFlare with the requirement to type in a couple of numbers into a box before I can access the page.

No idea why but it is annoying and unwanted. I believe I am only seeing it when I run a VPN. I tried searching online for the answer, and it seems to be a protective mechanism for websites.

Any suggestions where it comes from?

This was asked before by KlausdB:

"I have 4 x HDDs on SATA AHCI (Intel Controller) in Native Mode and 1 x ESATA on Win 7 Pro X64.
I noted that looking in Admin. Tools\Computer Management\Storage (as an example) the 1st HDD (Port 0 in the AHCI BIOS) is showing as "Disk 2" instead of my expectation of

"Disk 1".
Selecting the Drive's Properties correctly shows the "Location 0 (Channel 0, Target 0, Lun 0)".
I also note that the Disk Number allocation in Windows will change randomly after some reboots/startups - going anywhere from "Disk 1" to "Disk 4".  I can force/replicate this

behaviour by removing the ESATA drive.
Is this expected behaviour?
It doesn't appear to create any operating issues at this stage, however, is there a way I can force the Drive to always map to (eg) Device 0 --> Disk 1, Device 1 --> Disk 2,

I have three SATA hard drives :
Main system/boot drive , WD Caviar Black 1 TB, connected to the SATA 0 port
A backup drive, identical WD Caviar Black 1 TB, connected to the SATA 1 port
Another dirve, Hitachi 1 TB, connected to the SATA 2 port
When I installed Win 7, only the main drive was connected... and it remains the only drive with active/system/boot partitions.

All three drives reporr correctly in the BIOS, and in the right order, but why is it that only one of the drive (the one on SATA port 1) has a "SATA:" prefix and the others have a "HDD:" prefix ?

Why is it that the assignment of Disk #0, 1, 2 ( as seen in Disk Maanger or DiskPart) does not seem to have nay rhyme or reason?

I would have expected:

- the hardrive connected to SATA port O, to be assigned as Disk 0
- the hardrive connected to SATA port 1, to be assigned as Disk 1
- the hardrive connected to SATA port 2, to be assigned as Disk 2

but instead, I have:

- the hardrive connected to SATA port 2, is assigned as Disk 0
- the hardrive connected to SATA port 0, is assigned as Disk 1
- the hardrive connected to SATA port 1, is assigned as Disk 2

Just curious why that is.

I am assuming there is no way to chagne this. Its not something I would dream of reinstalling Windows 7 to correct ( even if it did correct it).

Hey all! I was looking to buy a "netbook" from HP around the first of the year, but I had one concern when it came to memory / OS compatibility. There are two options for OS:
Windows XP Home with Service Pack 3
Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit.

There are also 3 different memory options:
1GB DDR3 System Memory
2GB DDR3 System Memory (1 Dimm)
3GB DDR3 System Memory (1 Dimm)

Now, if I were to select XP as my OS, the only option it lets me select is 1gb. If I were to select Windows 7, I'm able to select any of the 3 options. When having XP with 2 or 3 GB selected, it says:
Windows XP Home with Service Pack 3 requires 1GB DDR3 System Memory (1 Dimm). Update Memory or Operating system .

Not sure what's going on here. I think 1 Dimm just means it takes up 1 slot. But, why would I not be able to have XP and 2/3 GB? To my knowledge, HP isn't correct?

Just wondering, because I want to select XP with 3GB. I have Windows 7 professional through my work, so I don't want to drop $30 on an OS I won't use. I kinda want to upgrade the memory through HP because 1) they install it so it's on them, and 2) it's only $65 for 3gb. Pretty good price, I think

Does anybody know anything about this? To my knowledge I shouldn't have a problem having ANY of these memories with EITHER operating system, but according to their website, it has to be one or the other.

I am going to skip the story behind this deal and ask how to get through to Windows and explain my delima. I tried to activate XP PRO after a complete transfer from one disk to an oem disk with XP Home. I was told that my numbers where bad after trying to activate, and that was it. I was not transferred or given a chance to talk to a real person, just contact vendor to whom sold me the disc. I had never had a problem in the past using this product. I have had the disc for over a year now with no problems. It has been installed several different times on several different computers. I had bought the disc along with the sp2 update install disc. It was selling as Windows XP PRO with SP2, Anyway, I do not expect help in a matter concerning bootleg products, but would just like to know a number I can use to get hold of Windows support personal and find out what the deal is. I can understand to many installs, but with that you can at least try and get new numbers and or talk to someone.

A:[SOLVED] bad numbers

Donk here again, It sounds as though I may be screwed. I Googled activation and found a site that has explained what the deal might just be. I new the disc had unlimited installs which meant an OEM install disc. Like I said, all had been good for a little over a year maybe two not sure, but they have now put into place a program that limits OEM install disc's. I just happen to have been sold said product. I had also noticed that after trying to return to said site it no longer offers my product, or any product dealing XP, Office, or Vista. I guess when you buy a product for a price that seems to good to be true well... it is. Buyer beware. It's called greed, I wanted something for nothing, and I got nothing.

Hi and welcome!

Well, the answer to your question is YES, but what you are doing is illegal, so I won’t be able to help you. Besides that, if you enter the number and it does take it, you’ll have to ACTIVATE it and that should fail because the machine is already activated on the Dell system.

I figured I would at least fill you in on this before it sits unanswered for a longer period of time until the Admins get to it and close it.

Need to create unique 2 digit random numbers that will be used in a check digit slot verification system for Voice Order Selection in a warehouse environment. Unique in that there are no duplicate numbers adjacent to each other. The numbers will be part of a 2000 slot address file. I have used Excel Rand, and Randbetween. I also looked at a VBA code, tried it, but could not decipher the code to fix it for sets of two numbers. Thanks.

A:Solved: Unique Numbers 2

Not totally clear on what you need. Are you trying to use Excel to generate a column of random two digit numbers (00 through 99) that is 2000 rows (numbers) tall? Each number is to be different from the number directly above it and the number directly under it?

Here is one possible way to do the above.

Assuming the column of numbers is in column A.

Format all of the cells in the column to show all numbers as two digit integers

Put this formula in cell A1:
That will create a random integer number from 0 through 99.

Put this formula in cell A2:
This will take the number from the cell above the current cell, add a random number from 1 through 99 to it, subtract 100 if the new number is over 100, and truncate it to a whole number.

Copy the formula in cell A2 to all cells from A3 through A2000. Excel should automatically change the cell references.

You are done if you need the column of numbers to always change when the sheet is updated.

If you want to generate a one time fixed list with 2000 number in it, then copy the contents of column A and then use "Paste Special" to only past the values into another column.

Okay, new problem. (btw, thanks everyone for the help thus far.) My program does not seem to be comparing two 64-bit (unsigned long long) numbers properly. Here is a code snippet and its resulting printout:

printf( "Time1 ................. %llu cycles\n", t1 );
printf( "Time2 ................. %llu cycles\n", t2 );
printf( "Time2 - Time1 ......... %llu cycles\n", time_passed );
printf( "Minimum exptected time: %u cycles\n\n", expected_time );

if( time_passed < expected_time ) {
} else {

Time1 ................. 1523867754751077 cycles
Time2 ................. 1523891533354504 cycles
Time2 - Time1 ......... 23778603427 cycles
Minimum exptected time: 1280072496 cycles

The number in the printout look good (i.e. they are in the range I expect to see). However, the compare in the above 'if' statement did not work right. As you can see, the time passed is clearly more than the minimum expected time, so it should have passed. Does anyone know what is going on here? Is there some kind of magic code I need to use to make this work with 64-bit numbers?

I looked through the site but didn't see a similar question. I use Windows 7, Firefox, and Word 2003. I have used Page numbers for some years but suddenly, starting yesterday, the number will NOT appear on the top, right side of the page. When I choose top of page, right side the number appears on the top LEFT side. Two days ago I finished a manuscript with no problem, 118 pages, and the numbers appeared on the top, right side. Yesterday I printed out Chapter 1, four pages, numbers where they should be. Today I started with Chapter 2, page 5, but it will NOT appear on the right side. I don't know what I did to make this problem come about. Any suggestions?

A:Solved: Page numbers.

O.K., my problem is solved. I went online and asked the question and the solution is a combination of several approaches. When Insert brought the page number up on the left side, I brought up Header/Footer, highlighted the number on the left side, clicked on CTRL + R, the number zipped to the right, I clicked Save, and it works. It's a pain, but that's the only my manuscript looks the way I want it. Thanks.

I recently changed from Excel 2000 to Excel 2007 and I still haven't learned my way around in it yet.
I have a spreadsheet for the voting returns in our county so there's a lot of numbers to enter. Worksheet is Formatted to "Numbers, 0 decimal places". I want to enter whole numbers w/out decimal places. In the older version I could go to "tools" and click on how many decimal places to use so that if I wanted to enter a whole number, I could w/out needing to hit the period key everytime. In the new Excel 2007 version, I can't find how to do this. Is it even possible w/Excel 2007? I've tried using the "text" but it won't sum for me.

If so, how?
Thank you for your help.

A:Solved: Numbers w/out Decimals

just right click on the cells ( highlite column) and select "format cells" click Number tab and then Number category and adjust your decimal places ( same as 2000).

In 2007, there is what is called the "quick access Toolbar". this tool bar will contain all of the buttons you may also be used to. ..... right click beside the tab names and select " customize quick access toolbar"... the default setting is for "Popular commands" so change it to see more... you'll also find the decimal place icons

I point it out because by default it 2007 is quite annoying

I think the Num Lock key may have been pressed.

You see, laptops don't have a number keypad like desktop keyboards do. Instead, they have secondary buttons.

Much like the numbers 1 to 0 can be change to an ASCII character by holding the shift key, the letter keys can be changed to numbers by pressing the Num Lock key..

Look for Numlk and press it

My son has just phoned me 'cos his laptop for some reason has a problem.
Keys such as K which also have the number 2 will only show the number, not the letter. I'm working 200 miles away from him at the moment so how can he put this right please? He's only just in double figures so he's rather worried about this.
He says he's not changed any settings but it's possible that something could have been changed by accident of course.
Thanks for any help...

The Num Lock is on? I know some laptops have a keystroke to lock the "number pad" on the laptop keyboard.

I have several lists of about 30 values each in a column, and I want to rate the "top 10" from each column. Some will be ranked from highest value to lowest, and some from lowest to highest. I don't want to sort the columns. As the result, i want another column to display the rank (from 1-10).

How can this be accomplished?

A:Solved: Rank a list of numbers

I haven't used it, but the rank function would appear to be the solution.

I am creating an Access database and need to sort the results of a query by its fileRef. Example entries are below:
Ex 1

These are kept as text data types due to the required "/" however when I instruct an ascending sort on these values Access returns them in this order
Ex 2

I can see that access is obviously sorting these a signal number at a time. Is there anyway that anyone knows of that can allow me to sort these values so that it returns what can be seen at Ex1.

OK I know Rounding numbers is a _ _ _ _ in Access. but then someone said use currency that will solve all your problems. Stop right there.

I have a table with five Items in it. ( for example)

All the fields I have formmated as Currency with two Decimal places I did this in the Table design screen.

In the PMCT field I enter data via an update query that says multiply [PMC]*.07

In the AMCT field I enter data via an update query that says multiply [AMC]*.07

Here is the problem

PMCT and AMCT both calculate to 1.0245 but shows $1.02

This means that total comes to 2.0490 and it shows $2.05 it should be $2.04

I need the numbers 1.0245 to be rounded to 1.02 in the field itself then when I go to use it all the calculations will show as they should.

This is a simple explanation of my problem but it is a much bigger database than 5 Fields.

Your help fellows would sure be appreciated. I have been answered here twice with good advice .

A:Solved: Access Rounding Numbers

Hey I foumnd the answer ! ! !

In the update to box on the query that calculates the tax I used ROUND(([PMC}*.07),2) This stored my numbers correctly and I found no problems with any of the other formulas based on those fields.

I guess maybe using my Google search proved very usefull this time.

Thanks for looking though I am sure I will be back.

I just newly reformatted & installed windows xp onto my computer.

Going through some web pages, everything seemed fine so far; but when i typed in a search on youtube, i got these characters that appear as boxes with numbers in them.

I tried selecting a diff encoding besides UTF-8 from view>character encoding, but i just got similar results...only with different unknown characters/symbols.

Is it possible i can maybe update my fonts/character list to fix this? i figured the character could not be rendered/recognized, because it was not available from the list...

or does anybody have a solution?

A:[SOLVED] Some characters appear as boxes with numbers in them?

If the encoding is correct the numbers indicate that these are japanese characters. Unless you are using a font that is capable of displaying these characters the above will be the result. Most Windows versions will have few if any of these fonts.

By configuring the fonts in your browser you may be able to display these characters. But unless you read the language it doesn't matter.
