Wifi drops every 10 minutes

Q: Wifi drops every 10 minutes

So yeah, silly me Installed windows 10 anniversary update (i could have chose not to) and now i keep getting disconnecting from my wifi every 2-10 mins. It was working perfectly before it. And I tried everything, believe me. Rolling back to previous build (this had to work :/), turning off power saving mode on my network adapter, reinstalling it, downloading new drivers from Asus website, I've also tried winsock reset, dns flush, ip config release etc. Also turning off my firewall, disabling realtek ethernet adapter, antivirus haven't helped me at all. And yeah I can access my internet with ethernet cable and other devices are working without problems. I also tried an external wifi adapter and had the same problem.
Funny thing is I can still access ipv6 websites after it gets disconnected, it has something to do with DNS. (Yes I also tried putting Google DNS servers). The only thing that I haven't tried is installing wifi drivers that I have on my asus disk that came with loptop (will do it later today)
If you're interested here's my network adapter: mediatek mt7630e
Help will be appreciated, thank you in advance.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

My computer always gives me the warning sign that I have limited connection about every ten minutes. I then trouble shoot it with (what else) windows trouble shooter. It fixes it self saying "The default gateway is not available." With the "Fixed" sign to the right. Then 10 mins later its down again. This only happens when I am using the internet not when I'm editing a video or something.

I think I have had it. The firm that I work at has a small dial up network run on windows NT. The networking dial up monitor was configured so that the line is dropped after 5 minutes and automatically re-connected in 15 seconds. apparently this was done to avoid and open line and hackers getting. NOt sure why hackers would waste their time on a small company with no real vital information.

I tried going to change the settings on the internet options. none of those things are checked so it doesn't make a difference. I also went to the open the networking monitor and tried to configure the settings there but there is no option that will allow this. Can anyone plaese tell me what to do next??? Need a reply ASAP!!

Please help!!!

A:Dial up drops after 5 minutes

You need to go to the server, eg: the pc your connecting to the net through. Right click on IE icon on the desktop click properties/connection/settings/advanced. And you can change the connection times there. A word of warning though, you may need permission from the administrator and or a password to do this.

Hi,

I have a 100Mbps broadband connection through Shaw, using the Motorola SURFboard® SBG6782 modem. The problem is every hour or so, seemingly random, all computers in the network lose the ability to browse or start new connections for roughly 1 to 5 minutes. Any connections that are already active, such as downloads or streams, continue without interruption. While down I am able to ping all computers on the network, and the default gateway with no issues.

My first thought was the DNS, so I changed it in the router to Google's DNS (8.8.8.8 , 8.8.4.4), however the problem persists. I'm at a loss for what could be causing this other than perhaps the modem, but it is less than 2 weeks old so I wouldn't expect a hardware problem. I have factory reset it and it did not help. Shaw is equally confused, they tried re seating the connection and that too had no effect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I recently signed with Comcast cable. I purchased a Linksys Advanced DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem for Comcast Connector, F-type female 75 ohm Cable (DPC3008) because I was told it was designed to work on Comcast.

It does work, but several times during the day it will randomly go offline. The "online" light is off and I lose my internet connection (my VOIP telephone is dropped, too). Rebooting the modem does nothing, but if I do nothing, it will come back online in about 5 minutes. My Comcast TV service is not interrupted during these times. This will happen about 4 times a day (that I know of)

I've called Comcast and of course they can't find any problem. After an hour or "let me check, I'll be right back" they tell me if the light is on then the modem is getting the signal. I have the modem connected to an Asus Darknight wireless router. If I try to plug my laptop directly into the modem and by pass the router I'm unable to connect (the small yellow triangle in the taskbar says "no internet connection", yet, when I unplug the laptop, put the ethernet cable back into the wireless router, the signal goes out and the laptop connects. I've changed the cable in an effort to correct it, but it didn't work.

I don't know how to correct this. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for any help you may offer.

I have a brand-new Acer M3800 Desktop, running Vista. 4gb RAM, and a Pentium Dual Core processor.
I have a wireless Linksys card in the computer. Attached to this card, I also have an outdoor Linksys antenna, versus the little rubber antenna that came attached to the card.

My neighbor at my office (literally 80 feet away) has DSL service inbound to his facility. I split the bill with him, and connect to his router and outdoor antenna wirelessly. He has the same set-up on his side on antennas. He has a DSL router hooked to his system, which allows me to connect to DSL.

From antenna to antenna, we are at 80 feet. I have a BLASTING signal from my computer to his. It can't go any higher. I can connect to his router and gain the Internet, but every few minutes I lose my Internet connection. It is very frustrating. Again, I have great wireless signal, so this isn't the issue. It must be some setting within my PC? His desktop on his side, hooked right into his DSL router, never loses Internet connectivity...only mine. What I do to correct the problem, is click on the two little blue computer icons in the lower right of my screen. I disconnect, reconnect, and still nothing. However, if I do this same sequence one more time, I always connect? I am good for about 5-minutes on Internet, then it drops me for some strange reason.

Any idea what could be wrong? PLEASE help if you can. By the way: the guy I connecting to his router?... Read more

pretty self explanatory... The problem started after i installed and uninstalled a proxy from my university for article access... A few details:

I use an HP pavilion dv6
My internet is DSL and the modem seems to be working fine... Tried a different modem and the problem persists
A wired connection doesnt make the problem go away
The other computers in my network have no problems
The problem is present if i use another network
The ISP says no problems on their end... They refuse to help... Brasil... Go figure
I removed all the remnants of the proxy... The university tech guys never heard about this
Removed all proxies
Tried flushing the DNS
Tried resetting the network
When i restart the computer the problem goes away for exactly 30 minutes
Tried different browsers: firefox originally, chrome, ie, opera... All have the same problem
Tried running malwarebits and combofix
Tried running comodo antivirus, and then uninstalled it... Problem persists
Tried changing the badProxyExpiresTime to 0 on the registry
The problem disapears if i start on safe mode with networking
I Suspect either malware or defective network card, but i know that i know very little, so i would appreciate some help

Hello all,

I hope anyone can help me with this problem since it starting to get really frustrating when playing games.
My internet started dropping at exactly 15 minute intervals since 3 days now. Most of today the intervals arn't at exactly 15 minutes anymore but sometimes with a half our interval and few times exactly 1 hour.

In the windows event viewer i see regular warning messages at the times the disconnects happen with the message:
Name resolution for the name "randomadreshere" timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.

Though this error does not show for every disconnect i am having.

What steps did i try:

1 Take the power of the modem and router for 30 secconds, plug modem back in wait til its fully booted. Then do the same for the router and lastly the pc.
2 Contact my ISP, they told me they looked at the modem and did not see downtime with the intervals i described and refused to help me any further. Told me to contact cisco because i use their router.
3 Did a firmware update on the router (this also put it back to standard settings, so thats 2 things in one go)
4 Then a friend told me to try and do this in cmd:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns

Additional information:

Modemtype: unknown will need to look it up, standard from the ISP
Routertype: Cisco linksys e3000
Computer is running windows 7 64
I'm on a wired connection.

Background:
Hi, I am empoyed by a small PD, and we can't afford a dedicated IT staff. I have taken on the role of an IT guy, but have no real expertise in the field. We have a server, a Netgear FS750T, and about a dozen wired computers. Every computer loses the internet sporadically. This issue has been present for almost a year, and I have not been able to figure it out despite hours and hours of research. One network person I spoke to over the phone told me to buy a new network switch and see if it corrects it, as it would be cheaper to do that than to hire him. (scary) The FS750T is at least 10 years old or so, and has never been properly maintained.

We have a static DSL connection, and our ISP sent out a tech to look into the issue. I was not present when the tech came, but have been told that the technician reported the problem was not on their end, rather, it was on our end.

The internet drop offs are getting to be more and more frequent. It used to be around every 20 minutes or so, now it seems about every 5. All computers on the network are affected by the internet drop off.

The server is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition, service pack 2. All of the PC's are running Microsoft Windows XP Pro (some Sp2, some sp3).

Hi everybody,

I'm about at my wits end with my Internet connection dropping, and I would really appreciate some help. There is an absolutely crushing feeling when BlackBoard drops the essay that you weren't allowed to copy and paste because the router is down again.

Technology in the loop:
Actiontec C1000 on Centurylink DSL 12 down/5 up
Macbook over Wifi running 10.9.5
Windows 7 Desktop over Wifi
iPad on iOS 8.1

Both computers connections drop intermittently but not completely in time with each other (i.e. one will lose connection shortly before the other). Sometimes turning wifi on and off with the device helps temporarily and sometimes a router restart is required.

I have a bunch of other tech issues, but this one seems pretty isolated. I'm not sure what other information you guys might need to help me diagnose and fix this, but I'm more than happy to provide more info. Thanks!

As it drops every few minutes

Please make a note of the status of the lights on the modem and on the router when working normally - post that light status here.
Now when the internet disconnects make a note of the status of the lights for the modem and router here again. also note which have changed.

You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

Heya guys,

Since I've had a good experience with you guys helping me, I thought I'd run an issue by you which I've had forever now..

When I play certain games, I get massive FPS drops during playing. Games with which I'm having this problem currently (and thus, for certain) are Fallout 3, League of Legends, and Left 4 Dead 2

I've tried updating various drivers, killing processen in my task manager, disabling the windows page file, running programs like gamebooster and advanced system care, etc.. etc..

The weird thing is.. after a system reboot, it seems i get a few minutes (5 or so) of normal gaming.. no fps drops or anything.. but after about 5 minutes, they keep happening all the time.. about 20 seconds every minute or so.. even closing the game and restarting doesn't help anything, only a total system reboot seems to give me a little window of normal gameplay..

I've had this problem immediately after a fresh windows install a while ago.. after that, I haven't used this computer for a while because I was in the hospital for about a year for health problems, but now that I'm back the same problems are still there..

The FPS drops also appear to be totally random, and not while something in the game actually (appears) to be happening.. While just standing around in L4D2 and there's not even zombies coming at us.. I get massive fps drops for about 10-20 seconds every minute, making virtually every game unplayable..

I have someone who brought me their Hp Pavilion 733, It keeps dropping the internet connection after about three to five minutes. can't reconnect unless I re-boot

He had a bunch of virus so he whipped the drive clean and did a recovery install of Win XP-Home from the D partition. I did a scan of the hard drive with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and found a Trojan in his documents & settings \Owner\ Install.exe. I removed the Trojan and re-scanned again and it found nothing. However the problem is still there, I re-installed the Realtek network driver but did not help.

I Installed a new nic card still the same problem, I installed Firefox thinking a browser problem but same thing after about five minutes all I get is page can't be displayed.

all other computers on my network work just fine and the patch cable is new.
I am wondering is it possable the viruses he had could have damaged the recovery files on his d:drive? it also just seems to move very slow the computer in general.

It has 512 Meg of ram and is a 2 Ghz AMD 2400 processer

I have not tried to reinstall the OS as of yet I wanted to get some other feedback first.

Thanks

I'm clueless about the hardware side of things, so I was hoping some of you folks could shed some light on my problem.

The title is slightly misleading, because what happens is at 4 O'clock every day the 'ADSL' light on my Zoom X5 router will flash quickly for around 7 seconds. While this happens I cannot access the internet. This will then continue for the rest of the day every 5 minutes. The issue is worse when I try to game or download things, if I am not using my computer it takes ages for the light to begin flashing. I cannot understand how it only happens at 4 O'clock every day. About a month ago it would D/C at 6 O'clock instead and last year it wouldn't work at all. I have had all kind of line tests and tech guys out to my home and none seem able to fix this, all telling me there is nothing wrong.

I have tried pretty much every fix on the first page of google search and some additional ones with no luck..

Dear Tech Support Guy Crew,

I live in a shared flat with 5 flatmates. We share one router which connects to internet via ADSL. We use different systems (Windows 7 & Vista, MacOS X 10.6.4) on different computers (Acer, HP, Vaio, MacBook). Until last week our internet connection worked perfectly fine (if you could call "perfectly fine" having to restart router every couple of days). Well - since a week ago our internet connection keeps dropping off every couple of minutes. To get the internet back we have to either reboot router or prompt it to reconnect to the internet. After re-establishing connection, the download/upload speed is relatively high and then gradually drops down to unbearable 4 Kb/s in a couple of minutes, often dropping off completely. Oh - and it happens regardless of how we connect between computers and the router (cable/wireless). It happens more often during the day then during the night. It happens regardless of number, makes and OSes of computers connected. It just happens.

I haven't had any troubles connecting to the router itself, neither using cable nor wirelessly.

So far we've tried:
- rebooting router
- swapping all cables for new ones
- moving router around the flat
- updating all systems and uploading brand new firmware to the router

I've called up tech guys from Virgin Media UK (our ISP) and they've checked that the internet connection in our area works "perfectly fine". They suggested removing exte... Read more

Well, did you reset to factory defaults after installing the firmware? Other than that, I can't think of anything else you can do. If it still does it, I suspect the router is dying.

You might try directing a fan on it to see if it's a heat issue. I'm guessing you need a new modem/router.

Hello Tech Support Guy Forum!
This is my first post, so i am very sorry if i make any mistakes.
Straight to the point: I have about 2 year old computer, that as far as i remember used to run pretty smoothly. I can't tell the exact date when it started, but right now it is very obvious, since it happens every time when i try to play any game. For example: I turn on CS:GO and in first few minutes - FPS: 300, then after some time it drops to around 100 FPS. I have latest drivers, my GPU temps and usages are all good when gaming, i clean my computer every day and i have ran multiple virus scanning programs.
System Specs:
GPU: Asus GTX 560 Ti 4GB
Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-3550 CPU @ 3.30GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.3GHz
RAM: 8 GB
Screen Resolution: 1680 x 1050 @ 60 Hz

Looking for help

A:Solved: Frame drops in any game after ~10 minutes

Hi and welcome to TSG.

You have missed one of the most important parts for a gaming machine ... the power supply. What is the exact make, model and wattage of yours?

What is the make, model and revision of the motherboard?

Is this a prebuilt system like a HP, Dell, Acer etc or a self / custom build? If it's prebuilt what is the make and model and has any hardware been changed or upgraded?

You say the temps are OK, but what exactly are they? What software are you using to check them? I ask as it is quite common for people to say their temps etc are OK when infact they are not Not saying this is the case for you but always good to check.

What operating system are you using and is it 32 or 64 bit?

What do you mean by you 'clean your computer every day'? Do you mean physically cleaning it inside and out or do you mean software clean up programs?

Hey guys!

So over the course of a month, I've had this problem with my internet connection. At certain times of the day, it would just cut off. Normally, from the moment I would turn on my computer to the moment the internet cuts off, it would be about a straight 4 hours that the internet is on. The thing is, this isn't a router problem since everyone else in the home with windows 7/8 is not experiencing this.

I've dug into this to find out that my Wireless Connection Lease would expire at certain times of the day, cutting of my internet. It shows the time it would cut off when I go to "Connect to a Wireless Network", right click my Wifi Name, click on Status and click on Details. Right now as I post this, this is what it's showing:

It would also say for my IPv6 Connectivity "No Internet Access" and for my IPv4 Connectivity "Internet" whenever my internet cuts off.

It would normally be 4 hours, but now it's going to 30 minutes. Instead of 1 hour like it's showing there, it cuts off at 30 minutes. When it cuts off, it says "No Network Access" and gives me a yellow triangle with an "!" next to the Internet Symbol on my taskbar. And it's weird, I've tried going to Adapter Settings and disabling the Wifi Card and enabling it but it always gets stuck on "Enabling" which makes me have to restart my computer in order to keep getting internet.

I really don't know what to do now. I also think that it could also... Read more

Is your connection only a wireless one or ethernet? If its wireless, i would check to make sure the wireless adapter settings in the control panel are ok. On the other side of things; you could try doing a ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew at a elevated command prompt and see if that might resolve the issue you are having. Also, can you go into event viewer and copy and post and logs that have any possible related errors; then we can go from there.

I can connect to the internet and browse but after anywhere from a minute to ten minutes my connection speed drops or i get disconnected all together. I only have this problem at school in my dorm.
It works fine on my wifi at home and in other buildings on campus. I know nothing is wrong with my dorm building because my roommate who also uses windows 7 has no problems connecting and staying connected.
I have talked to the I T dept. at school and they didnt help much at all. I have run a Malwarebytes full scan and it didnt find anything. I have disabled McAfee and the problem still persists. I have also changed all settings on my wifi card to the most aggressive possible and disabled all power saving options.
When i run a diagnostic on my connection while im having problems i generally get one of two errors.
"the connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the internet is broken" or
"the default gateway is not available"
If i get the second error it says its been fixed and my connection will speed up again for about another 5 minutes and then the cycle repeats.

If anyone has any ideas on what it could be please let me know because im pretty good with computers and this has me completely stumped

I have a desktop running Windows 7 on an ASUS motherboard and I have to use a USB wireless adapter for internet; the adapter is a Cisco Linksys model AE2500. I can connect to a network fine but approximately every 20 minutes I lose internet access without being dropped from the network completely. To fix it I have to right click the network icon in the taskbar and choose 'Troubleshoot problems.' This fixes it pretty much every time saying that what was fixed was the 'The default gateway was not available'. I play online games so having a connection that keeps dropping out is going to be really inconvenient.

This has happened with this computer in 2 different houses; with 2 different modem routers; and using 2 different wireless adapters so I'm thinking this has to be something with the actual computer. In my first house I was able to use a wired connection to overrun this problem and it worked fine, but that is not an option at my new location. I saw forum posts about changing the power settings to prevent USB connections from being dropped to save power and I disabled these options but I am still experimenting this problem. The modem/router I am currently using is a Cisco Linksys E1500.

If anyone has additional recommendations for things to change that would be great; if there is additional information needed about my computer/adapter/modem let me know.

Thanks

I have a Win XP Toshiba laptop with built in 802.11b wireless networking. I am using a Linksys WAP 11 Access point connected to my Linksys Router to browse the net from my laptop. I let Windows manage my wireless connection. When connected the wireless signal is almost always 'excellent' at full strength, 11.0 Mbps, anywhere in my house. But the connection inexplicably drops after every 2 or 3 minutes like clockwork, with the 'wireless connection unavailable' bubble popping up. When I 'refresh' the connection it connects exactly on the 3rd refresh attempt, consistently. This happens even when I'm right next to the WAP, so obviously its not a signal loss problem. Since this is so predictable I'm wondering what could be causing the connection drop? If I don't refresh the connection it takes varying times to reconnect, mostly over 15-20 minutes, sometimes not at all. I use WEP and have disabled SSID broadcasting. I don't have any 2.4 GHz devices at home, and this problem is present at all times of the day and night.

Thanks

Ash

So I've very recently gone wireless. I picked up a D-Link 524 router and a Linksys WPC54GS wireless card for my Dell C-600 Latitude laptop on account of having limited cash and finding those to be seemingly the best bang for buck. I'm in a basement apartment, shared with a person using the same router and whatever pack-in wireless card comes with the new Dell laptops. I'm running XP, and when the wireless connection works, it works wonderfully. I can get a fine connection pretty much anywhere in the apartment as long as I keep some approximation of a line-of-sight. The problem is that I keep dropping off the connection just about every 7 minutes. Instant Messenger keeps me cued into this.

It's not a huge problem for regular browsing, but it makes chatty conversations miss beats, and is generally inconvenient. My roommate gets logged off fairly frequently too, but I haven't checked to see if it's the exact interval.

So what's going on here? Is my solution as simple as needing to match companies--D-Link and D-Link, or Linksys and Linksys--or is there a sneaky solution? Many thanks.

I've got a problem with the Wireless network on only 1 of my PCs. The problem is that my computer drops the wireless connection after a few minutes. I can't repair the connection other than performing a reboot. I've searched the Internet already, but non of these resolve my problem.

Here's what I've done already
- Updated the drivers and utilities
- Updated Windows XP Pro (all updates until now)
- Disabled all security settings on the Wireless Network (basically allowing every one to connect to it)
- Repair function hangs on disabling the NIC
- Manually disabling the NIC and enabling, gives me the message "connect failed" and the NIC stays disabled.
- Changed the channel
- ipconfig /release and /renew is unsuccessfully

The Wireless network card is an ASUS WL-138g.
The computer is runnen Windows XP Pro SP2
Security on Wireless network is WPA-PSK.

Strangely enough, when I lose the connection I still am able to ping the NICs IP address, but I'm unable to ping another workstation or the gateway for that matter. From other workstations I'm also unable to ping the computer.

This only happened when I reinstalled Windows. I was able to download all Windows Updates (>100MB) without any problem.. and no, these updates weren't downloaded within those 10 minutes.

I can still scan and see all the available networks, but I'm unable to connect to any of them (some are unsecured), including my own network.

This is a very weird problem. Starting from three days ago my laptop's wifi capabilities dropped suddenly. I hadn't dropped it or installed anything that could have caused it. I could get no WiFi unless I was in the same room as the router. Meanwhile my phone could get WiFi same as before all around the house.

I tried a system restore, updating everything and things like that. Today I noticed that the WiFi icon would show two bars just as the lid is opened but quickly changes to no signal. I figured out that if I angle the lid below 45 degrees and just before the display turns off, I get great signal strength just as I used to!

Now it is very inconvenient to use the laptop like that which is why I am typing this from my phone. Can you guys help me please I really needed to fill out lots of forms from that machine. Thanks in advance.

Hi all,

Got a bit of a weird issue here. I've owned my WAG54GX2 for about... 2 years maybe, and I've got no complaints all round. My usage hasnt changed nor any settings within this period.

However... Over the last week, for some reason the WiFi Connection gets destroyed. I've only seen it once at the point where the Wifi Light goes out (something i've never seen before) - but generally the 2 WiFi conencted PC's fail to keep the connection, they drop out, and fail to get an IP, and when they do manage to get 'on' the connection is terrible. In the mean time, I run wired on 2 boxes that have no noticeable issues at all. Its like the WiFi just gets totally jammed up.

I've tried my hardest to establish what has changed, what is new, whats different at night, and theres just nothing.

Turning off the router and back on seems to have no effect either.

I've attached some logs, I dont know what 99% of it means. But thought maybe someone here could shed some info by translating them.

the Anisdktool seems to be started a lot? normal?

and wns msg tcvd: no idea what thats all about?

ring full looks a bit "** alerting***" but no idea what this is telling me either.

This is super frustrating any insight would be great.

Okay. Who is your ISP. There has been known issues for that model. That is why most go with their own equipment for Internet. Too many issues with the all-in-one gateways.

You could just turn off the onboard wifi, and use a Wireless Access Point instead. I use the Engenius ECB-350 for my network. Never have had any issues with it. I can pick it up to 75' from my house.

Hey All, new to the forum, thanks for the replies in advance, and I'm sorry if I'm not explaining it in the correct terms.

My issue seems to be with my computer. Often, when I am connected to my WiFi router, my internet service, and subsequent connection to the network, drops inexplicably. My computer will claim it is no longer connected. When I attempt to reconnect, the computer claims it cannot. The troubleshooter also cannot find an issue. All the while, other devices and computers on the network will be perfectly connected without interruption. The only way to fix this is to actually go to the router, reset it, and wait. This can happen within 5 minute of being reset, 20 minute, an hour, or sometimes, days go by without it being an issue. No rhyme. No reason. (That I can find)

Other times, my network, will just...slow down. I'll see the connection drop from full signal to 4 bars. If I catch it then, I can run the troubleshooter and everything will be restored (although the message the computer returns is that there was no problem found). Either this, or if I turn off my wifi, then turn it back on, reconnect to my network, boom, speed restored!

This is driving me insane. I can't seem to fix it. Any help is appreciated, as I am quite tired of having to march across the room 3-6 times every day to reset this. Thanks!

Is this a problem that anyone has experienced. I have switched from wireless keyboard to wired. When online if the keyboard drops out the wireless drops with it.

I have to kick in the keyboard again by using the mouse to click the screen. The mouse also drops out when scrolling using the

It has dropped six times typing this note.

Every day or so, my wifi connection will no longer have internet access.  I have 2 HP Pavilion's and 1 Lenovo.  This is the only one that has this issue.  I've had the hard drive replaced and everything reinstalled for other reasons, but the issue with internet connectivity is still there.  If I hover over the WiFi icon in the lower right coner, it tells me right now the NETGEAR router I'm connected to and says Internet access below it.  When I've dropped internet access, the icon will have a yellow mark on it and hovering shows my NETGEAR router but it says no internet access. All I have to do is disconnect from my router and reconnect and I'll have internet access again, but that gets irritating. Could this be a hardware issue on my laptop and how do I determine that?  I'm still under warranty for another 2 months.

Hi guys,

I'm having a problem whereby my wifi drops out and then reconnects a few seconds later. This problem is on my computer as I've checked my router's logs and it doesn't mention anything untowards.

The Event Viewer reports this:

Quote:
The TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper service entered the stopped state.

It doesn't happen every day and always happens when I'm using the computer. Can anyone off me advice please? I have my computer set up to only connect to one specific network and it always does this.

This problem usually occurs because your router is set to use a wireless channel that is overloaded by your neighbors WIFI connection.

It's best to scan the networks in your area then choose a channel that is furthest away from the ones your neighbors are using. Xirrus WIFI scanner works well for this. You can post the results here if you still aren't sure which channel to choose.

Hello

This problem is frustrating me a lot now. After upgrading to WIndows 10, I have noticed that my Wi-Fi connection frequently drops without any pattern whatsover. It just drops randomly and re-connects after 2-3 minutes. If I attempt to connect to the network in that period of 2-3 minutes, it will sometimes connect, and sometimes fail. I have 2 other laptops (1 of which has Windows 10) and they don't experience this problem.

I have searched online and tried tons of things. Nothing has fixed the problem so far! Below are all the things I tried. Please help if you have any suggestions or if there are known issues with Windows 10.

1. Updated the driver software
2. Uninstalled the driver and re-installed it
3. Unchecked the setting of 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' in Power Management of the wireless network adapter.
4. Uninstalled anti-virus to eliminate anti-virus as the issue.
5. Disabled 'Wifi Sense' options of 'Connect to suggested hotspots' & 'Connect to networks shared by my contacts'.

I am clueless as to what the issue is. Please help!
