White Background and White Panels

Q: White Background and White Panels

Update: Solved by switching themes to basic and back.

In Metro mode I see this... I don't know what happened last as I don't use this PC often but it's running Windows 8 Build 8102. Even the switcher button "start menu" in normal mode shows white instead of black.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Ever since I got this notebook, all I've had are problems, and HP has never been able to resolve a single problem. It's like the warranty is completely meaningless. They didn't even replace defective parts, let alone replace the entire notebook.I've had problems with the hard disk, and was told we can't solve this problem as this is a problem with every envy notebook.I've had a problem where dust is building up inside the screen (between the screen and the external glass cover), and I was told I need to send the notebook to the service centre (even though I have an "on-site, at home service warranty? for 3 effing years). This one time, one HP tech even told me "ENVY NOTEBOOKS DON'T SUPPORT VLC PLAYER, YOU MUST PLAY MULTIMEDIA USING WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER ALONE". NOW, I have a white line appearing on the top corner of the screen, and HP said I need to take a picture of the problem in the BIOS. The BIOS itself has a white background. How can I click a picture of a white line on a white background? If I write with white ink on a white paper, can anyone read it? I explained this precisely, and was told "Since the issue is not present in BIOS, we need to check if this can be covered in the warranty". WELL, THE ISSUE IS PRESENT IN THE BIOS, IT?S JUST THAT IT CANNOT BE SEEN AS IT?S WHITE ON WHITE, AND YOU WANT TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS AND NOT REPLACE MY LCD? The issue is present in live linux USB sticks as well! All you need to reproduce it is a DARK BACKGROUND. ... Read more

On any website that I visit; all backgrounds are black and all text is white. How can I reverse this? Also, I am a stamp collector. When I visit Linns Stamp News all the web addresses are blacked out. How do I keep that from happening? While I'm at it my computer has slowed down considerably. I run Microsoft Essentials weekly, but it tells me that all is secure.
Thank you, sincerely, Kleon24

I was asked to fix my aunt's computer, but I've run into a problem: the background on webpages is white. All texts and images are displayed, but background colors and images are not. I've installed both IE 7 and Firefox, but the problem occurs in both. Some of the sites I've visited say to install Adobe Flash Player, which I've done, but there seems to be no effect. The "display website colors" option in both browsers is checked. I'm all out of ideas; any help would greatly be appreciated.

PS - I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but the issue I was supposed to fix in the first place was changing her browser. She was using Netscape, but because they are going out of business or something, she needed to change it. I don't know if her Netscape browser displays images because it automatically closes when I try to open it.

Hello you all, this is my first post here so sorry if I violate etiquette.

I just upgraded and have been tweaking my windows 10, but I have one nagging problem (a few, actually but lets address this one 1st).
I have a dark grey theme set for my accent color and that colors my title bar just fine, however if the window is in the background my nice, easy ion the eyes title bar goes to some annoying bright white color. Anyone know how to prevent this from happening? I just want it to stay dark grey non matter if it's in the foreground or background.
Also anyone know how to just make it all solid black? I tried doing a bit of searching and came across a program called winareo tweaker, but when I use that little program to set my custom color to solid black, after I go to personalize and change my accent theme color, it'll actually show up as blue.
Simply getting a consistant dark color on these borders has been an uphill battle!

The selected background will appear shortly after startup and then it will change to a blue background for a moment and then it turns all white and stays that way. The icons show up allright. Has anyone had this problem? I have scanned my computer with anti-virus and anti-spyware and even paid for RegCur software to correct the problems found in my directory. Any thoughts?

The "problems" you had (spyware?) added a white html page. When selected in web items, it covers the existing desktop.
Unchecking it, removes it from the desktop. If the file name is mentioned in Web Items, after disabling it, you can search for it on your hard drive and delete it.

On the ribbon go to "Page Layout" and then "Page Color" - select black Then on the font styles you are using, change the color to white. There's probably a way you can set this up as a default template if you want it for every document. Not sure if it will try to print it this way or not. It's not too hard to switch it all back before you print though. (revert the page background, and select all; change font color)

Hi,

Yes I know, you guys have answered this question before. The problem is all the answers assumed a knowledge of photoshop of which I am confined to a small part of the image menu. I think I understand the concept of layers but I haven't a clue how to work with them. Please be gentle with me!

I got excited when I read that you could select the background and simply delete it! so, I tried using the magic wand and got all excited when the dashed line encircled all the white; then completely disappointed when the delete button did nothing. I then searched for delete in the menus but the only one I found was grayed out and predictably did nothing.

Please help a complete novice!

Thanks!

Thx,

A:My desktop icons have white background

By default, icons show the background color of your desktop. Tools such as Tweak UI can be used to enable the clear background.

hello & welcome to TSF,

do you have a Windows Xp cd, not the restore cd's that come with some systems, the cd will have the Windows logo & 3D hollowgram/image on it

if you do not maybe you can barrow one from a friend/family member/co-worker as long as it is the same version that is on your system

if you have (Windows XP Home Ed. sp2 ) then the cd will have to be that / if you have a cd with (Windows XP Home Ed. )you will have to slipstream (SP2 ) onto a disk that you create

this also applies to (Windows XP Professsional )

http://www.helpwithwindows.com/Windo...p2-bootcd.html

now if you do have the Windows XP cd with sp2 please follow these steps

--------------------------------------------

performing a (sfc) system file checker

It is a scan that checks the core files & dlls of the (os) operating system and replaces them if they are corrupt or missing with the correct original version

start

#1 then select (run) , then press enter
a window will open
#2 type in ( cmd ) then press enter
another window will open
#3 type in ( sfc )then press enter
another window will open
#4 type in (sfc /purgecache) then enter / your pc will work like crazy / this helps in rebuiding the cache file (notice the space between (sfc & /)
#5 type in (sfc /scannow ) then press enter ( notice the space between the (sfc & / )

now a scan will start , have your (Windows XP software disk ready ) your pc may ask for this disc when i... Read more

Hello,

I'm having an issue with a white desktop background appearing at startup.
The white screen does NOT occur when started in Safe Mode, and it does not occur at Logoff of windows and logon, only at Boot.

The white desktop background lasts for about 2-3 minutes and then the regular desktop appears; icons and all.
Icons are not present when white screen is on.
Start button and task bar below is visible but not active during this time.

I have run scans with Norton, SpyBot, Adaware, and the Microsoft Malware Removal Tool.

I also did an msconfig and checked the startup items, and everything appeared to be normal.

Attached is a hijackthis log for viewing.

Any other ideas I can try.
And yes I uninstalled and re-installed the driver for the Video Card; which was suggested on different forums that i researched.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jessica

Computer covers whole screen with either white, or white with black, and blue stripes. Multiple times a day.?
This computer was bought in 2005, (HP Media Center PC). Within the second week this freezing(it freezes, and the screen has a white or white with black and blue stipes) occured( yes second week, my brother was uninformed and thought it was normal and didnt return it. It happened often enough as to save anything you were working on every ten to twenty minutes on a bad day. It settled and slowly became less of a problem, then stoped. One day he got a virus and had to restore the computer, the freezing started up again. same as last time, it settled then stoped, a month later, i recieved this computer as a hand me down, as my brother went to college and got a MAC. That was in mid summer of 2008, a week and a half ago, i got a huge virus, i restored my computer, and the freezing started up again, after not doing it once for over a year. It has gotten as bad as freezing every 30 minutes some nights. And earlier today it froze, i turned off and on my computer, went down stairs, and when i came back it was frozen again. I had not even used and program. Please help if you have any idea whats wrong!
Things to keep in mind...
-It only happened after the computer was restored, or bought(ish)
-Its not a normal freeze where you see the programs on the screen still, the screen goes completely white, or white with black and blue stripes.
-4 years old

Thanks!

A:Screen Freezes and turns white or white with stripes

Then maybe it isn't freezing at all. Maybe there's a problem with your monitor, vga cable, or video card.

Try a different monitor/cable and see if that changes anything. If it doesn't, then try reseating the video card--if any--and if that doesn't work I suggest getting a cheap one from someone's old pc at least to test with.

Installing a new video card can be complicated, but google search for a guide or follow the setup instructions for the video card to the letter and you'll have no problems.

Let us know what's going on, we love to help here... it's like an addiction, but we can stop anytime... really we can.

Welcome to TSF. I know I come off a bit strange, but most of the people here are friendly... and nowhere near as messed up.

My Hp pavilliin g7 series laptop running windows 7 home starts up with white screen and no beeps or sounds . Started freezing on Hp logo screen last week only sometimes. Id turn off and it would work on second try. About a year and a half ago I used laptop to preview windows 8. And after I reinstalled windows 7 it has been acting funny. Ie freezing and louder fan noise. I did recently update the bios and a pci device driver that never installed. But now it has white screen this morning. I shut off and powered up and still white.
I took off battery and pressed power for 10 sec plugged back in and still white. Still no noise.
Any ideas?

I have the same problem. When turning on the laptop screen goes to white, I can hear windows starting but cannot see anything. I connected it to an external monitor, which will only display once windows has loaded. I then took the whole laptop apart and discovered the LCD cable was frayed due to a faulty laptop hinge. I replaced the cable and it was the same, just white. The problem I think is with the motherboard and the intergrated video card. Upon taking the whole thing apart I noticed that where the video card plugs in is right where the heat sink is and the cooling fan which gets exceptional hot. I figure it has fried the board to the extend the monitor will not work where it is plugged in, but the external monitor will work but only when windows boots. So sad to say because of the the heat this laptop puts off and if you have it sitting on your lap or bed or anywhere else that it cannot cool properly it has over heated and you will have to get a new motherboard.

A:Laptop screen starts up white and stays white

"I connected it to an external monitor, which will only display once windows has loaded"... This is normal behavior because the video signal to the external monitor is not sent until Windows loads. If you can see normal video, the motherboard video chip is good

In Windows explorer, you can change the borders, the scroll bar, the text etc. etc. but all around those the color is white. I was thinking that perhaps in doing it a light grey (or blue, beige) etc. would be better.
Why?
Less contrast would be easier on the eyes
Less white would be easier on the monitor
Less white equals less light therefore perhaps even may lengthen the life of the monitor.
Just a thought. So is it possible to do so?
I went to Control Panel -> Window Color -> Advanced Appearance Settings -> and clicked within the active window there to change color but it didn't seem to do anything.

A:Can the white color background be changed in Explorer?

Yes it can be done and this question has been asked before. Read the entire thread here:

Hello, I'm having some problems with removing a white background from a circular Microsoft image.

I'm using Photoshop CS4 Extended and I've tried a few ways including selecting the image with the magnetic lasso tool and then pasting it onto a new layer with a transparent background but then when I save it as a TIF and open the image into a powerpoint it still has the white background.

I just want to the image pasted into Powerpoint to be the image within the circle, not the shadow or the white.

I believe the way to do it is with a clipping mask but I haven't found much information that I can understand.

Here is the image, any help will be appreciated.

@loised?, welcome to the forum. When requesting help you should always include the make/model (i.e. p6-xxxx) of the computer and/or monitor. This information is necessary for us to review the specifications of them.  Also, which operating system are you running.

I am trying to crop an irregular image (head shot) using PhotoStudio 5 and then cut and paste it onto another image (other body). The eventual destination is PowerPoint. However, the cropped head shot adds a white rectangular background, so when I cut and paste it over the new body, it looks amateurish. I want to cut and paste JUST the lasso head shot for a clean paste so it looks like just the head on the different body.

how do I cut an irregular image WITHOUT the white rectangular background?

thanks so much. This is for a toast to the bride.
