Popping Command Prompt Error / Blocked Websites

Q: Popping Command Prompt Error / Blocked Websites

Good Day!

This is my first post here in bleeping computer (technically second because I dropped a 'Hello' line for the new members thread) and I would first like to thank all active members and admins for giving countless hours to help others.

Now to my problem, I have been bothered for weeks by random popping of command prompts and saying that I have encountered an error in memory something something (I forgot the exact error message, I would post a screenshot once I get the error again). Just like 'pringles' once it pop... it never stop. The only way for it to stop is to reboot, although sometimes even if I reboot.. it comes back again and again and again. So, I decided to uninstall my corrupted AVG to install the latest version... only for me to find out that I can't uninstall it because an error keeps prompting on the uninstall screen. I also found out that I am the only one who can't access AVG's website. I managed to download the latest installer through CNET but I keep on getting a failed installation error for no clear reasons.

Here is the result of my dds.scr run:

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Greetings and Welcome to The Forums!!My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your malware problems.I have put together somethings for you to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability. Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post. Please read every post completely before doing anything.
Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process. Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.
A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At the top o... A few days ago I attempted to download a freeware program. I don't remember the site it was on. As I was installing it it was taking a long time and I got suspicious so I stopped it. My suspicions were correct. There was a bunch of new programs installed on my computer. Because of the amount of programs I decided to do a system restore. That got a lot of the junk off my computer. I then ran a full scan with Windows Defender and it found a trojan which I removed. I then ran a Malewarebytes premium scan and it found a bunch of stuff which I removed. I think most of the bad stuff has been removed but I am still having one issue. Every hour or so two command prompt windows will pop up one after the other for less than a second. It happens so fast that I am unable to get a screen shot from it or see if anything comes up in task manager when it happens. I did manage to see something one time when it popped up, it said bitsadmn.exe. I searched for that on google and found that it is a windows process but the file could be infected so I searched my computer for that file but it's not on my computer. I am thinking that it could be something trying to update some of those programs that were installed but I am not sure and I still want to get rid of it because if it happens while I am playing a game it causes the game to minimize for several seconds and puts it in windowed mode. I HAD A WINDOW POP UP AT STARTUP. Rthdcpl.exe WHICH HAS SOMEHTING TO DO WITH my weather program. I uninstalled the weather program but the Rthdcpl.exe error keeps popping up.
I installed Acronis Piracy Expert suite and cleaned my recycle bin.
Still have the Rthdcpl.exe but didn't expect it to go away. I did find it in my files and told Acronis to clean it but that didn't m make it go away.
Not really trusting Acronis I went in to download Error Nuker and strange things started to happen. It has me to turn off my pop blocker, which I did. It would not download and I notice every few minutes what looks like the command prompt keeps popping up for just a sec. It says in the prompt "This program is to big to fit in the memory." Which is hard to read as it just pops on and off.
Thinking maybe I got a virus or something
I click on my McAfee Internet Security Suite and it just is not working.
I go to the McAfee web site to see what my problem it there. I run a program check to see what the problem is. I get an error message that there is a problem. I go to on line tech support and when the tech comes on and I start to type my problem and I hit the space bar My Security Vault log in pops up and every time I start to type my Command Prompt pops up. I can not even type a question the on line tech guy. Well he just disconnects from me after a few minutes. I got rid of the Command Prompt after doing a System Restore for 1 day.

So I just bought this new Asus laptop with windows 8. Everything is fine except one problem. The black command prompt dialog box pops up for a few seconds and then disappears by itself! This repeats after several minutes or so.

A:Command Prompt keeps popping up and disappearing?

For starters, go to desktop and press Windows Key and R and type in msconfig. Look for Startup tab and disable all programs. Close and restart your system. If that cures the problem then it is one of those programs you disabled. For more on the msconfig tool just Google it.

For a few days, a DOS window pops up briefly, first at windows start up but then throughout the session. I haven't determined any trigger. It looks like it's doing something with a temporary file --creating, deleting?? not sure as it is only up briefly, but I am able to read the changing file names of the naming convention je*.tmp. I have seen je98.tmp and je288.tmp. I have done WE searches and looked in the temp file folder. Probably the names are generated on the fly. I cannot relate it to anything new I have changed or installed. I did install Malwarebytes' Antimalware last week and there was a Mozilla Firefox update earlier in the week, but I think this started days after the first install and not really sure when the Firefox update was. I don't know how to track this down.
Thank you.

Ok.. I initially was having problems downloading a World of Warcraft patch (4.3). In my search to figure out what was going on with that, I discovered that I am not able to open/run some programs. Specifically, anything that I need to install and System Restore. What is happening is when I click to run the program a command prompt window very quickly opens and then closes. I can't even read what is written on it, its so fast. I was able to run System Restore through the command prompt, but it only restored it for 10 days ago and did not fix any of my problems. So.. I am really wanting to know what is going on with not being able to run programs and the command prompt showing up and going away. When this happens I have checked to see if the program is running (using task manager) and they are not running. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi, so I bought and upgraded to windows 10 today. All day long, at random intervals, I have a CMD window opening up and closing itself almost instantly with about 6 lines of text.
Unfortunately it happens so fast that I can't catch a glimpse of what it's really doing.
Are there any methods of disabling CMD from being launched(i doubt it but hey) or is there any way to figure out which process is causing this? any log file I can check?
It's incredibly frustrating because it minimizes whatever I'm doing.

I'm running a Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit.

Norton internet security alerted me that it had blocked an attack on my computer.

I keep getting a user account control prompt for “Windows Command Processor”. The window shows the following: “C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe/C”, “C:\Users\....\AppData\Local\Temp\kfialfcogiiclann.exe”.

Nortons sonar notification told me that it removed a file, which I think had the same filename as the .exe mentioned above.

The prompt keeps popping up, can you help me.

I came across this problem 2 weeks ago where cmd.exe windows pops up every hour or so and immediately disappears and minimizes/kicks me out of fullscreen applications like when I'm playing a game which is very annoying. I've ran full system scans for viruses with Avast and ran scans with Malwarebytes for any kind of malware but found nothing. I also tried running an SFC scan to see if there was any missing/corrupted files causing these command prompts from popping up but there was none. Disabled my startup programs in the task manager, went to msconfig to disable all the services, and ended all the task in the task scheduler to see if the command prompts would stop but they still keep popping up. I downloaded an application called Process Monitor that keeps an eye out for background processors and found the paths for the cmd.exe windows that keep popping up and they show up to be like this.

cmd.exe - Path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\conhost.exe
cmd.exe - Path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\conhost.exe
cmd.exe - Path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\bitsadmin.exe
cmd.exe - Path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\bitsadmin.exe

You
can access Command Prompt,reg-edit, and task manager on a computer where its disabled with no admin rights. You can do this by copying the files for Cmd,regedit, and task manager, to a writable location. Then you can edit them with a binary editor to run regardless
of the policies set up. . The reason this works is because when Microsoft was coding Windows, , they decided they'd rather have it be more open than closed. When the command line starts, it checks a value in the registry to see if it can run. When you do this
your changing the registry location it looks in. Therefore it doesn't find the restriction in the registry. As a result, it allows execution. Once you've changed this one binary value, it will work on any school, work, or home computer that has it disabled.
Also on 64 bit versions of windows 7 and 8 you also need to copy the En-US folder from System32 and paste it in the folder with the binary edited CMD file. This is so it can load all the commands properly. I am not responsible for what you do. Have fun. The
unicode strings are CMD- disablecmd, Regedit- disableregistrytools. You can also use this method to access a disabled task manager.
Note: When doing this put the files
into a place you can write to like a flash drive or the desktop, or else you won't be able to make the edits. You can do this all on a standard account. You don't need to be a Administrator.

Hello everyone

Recently a problem has arisen with my system.

Previously I have been doing work that requires me to unplug my network connection and I need to check my IP address each time I plug it in again. I guess it's not set for static IP.
Anyways to do this I usually go into Command Prompt and type 'ipconfig'

Now however I just get "'ipconfig' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file".

The directory is the same as its always been, I can change it but it doesn't seem to matter what it is.

I've checked many other posts and is there something possibly wrong with my PATH variable? I used the command 'echo %PATH%' and it works, the list it gives is very garbled however.

I'm not sure what might have made this problem arise, but I would greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks!

I have a utility I run on some customers' machines that requires being run from safe mode. I already have the utility automated via batch, and would like to just run one SFX app and move on to the next machine, knowing that this app will reboot the machine into safe mode w/ command prompt, run my utility, and reboot the machine back into normal mode (the standard shutdown -r -t 01 is easy enough, but there are no modal options!). Also, if this can be done, how would I then make sure that the current user logs in automatically, rather than have safe mode stop at the log-in screen?

The utility in question is a simple "Common Software Package" which includes some software such as Reader and Flash. Some of the software included cannot be installed while an antivirus is running (at least any that have tamper-protection) due to the registry editing involved, but are completely positive in nature (one such software package simply checks the current registry vs. a backup it takes on each shutdown to look for any discrepancies, adjusted for installed software, of course). The packages do not require Windows Installer service to be running, so I have found SM w/ CP to be the best option.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

A workstation on the network had the Locky virus launched on it Monday. I got ThreatTrack on the line to assist with this, and the tech removed several folders, e.g. Windows\temp, and others, and I had a bad feeling about this while he was doing this. I
was told to log on with a different username in safe mode, which is when I gave him access to the machine via team viewer. After he got off the system, name resolution would no longer work. From any browser, I cannot bring up any web pages via a hostname,
but web pages do pull up with the IP. From the command prompt, I cannot ping a hostname because of name resolution problems, but I can ping an IP. Nslookup does work, however. I initially tried "netsh int ip reset", and eventually removed the network
adapter from the device manager and reinstalled it. Nothing worked. I've been searching for an answer on Google, but nothing so far. I also tried "sfc /scannow". All prior system restore dates prior to the infection have been deleted. The DNS client
service is running.

command
then click ok.
Command is a command file. Sounds like you may have something attached to the exefile open procedure.

If you are comfortable with your registry editing skills. Look here first.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\exefile\shell\open\command

The default value when you double click the
default key is:
"%1" %*
(this includes the quotes)
If anything else is behind this you may have a virus.

If this is windows 2000 make sure that you don't have the lovsan worm or other variants that use the RPC vulnerability.

Hi,

My system has three OSes. Two Linux versions and Win XP-SP3. All of them are on different hard-disks of their own. On boot, i specify, which HD to boot from, in the boot menu from BIOS and accordingly boot from the respective Hard disk.

Most of the time, I use Win-XP. While shutting down the PC, i noticed that automatic updates were being installed. I accidentally happened to switch-off the power. Eversince, next boot, when i specify the Windows HD on boot menu, windows XP logo comes up and a blue screen appears and the system reboots to boot from Linux Disks (Default if I don't specify any disk from boot menu). I tried last working configuration, safe mode, safe mode with command prompt etc. But, same symptoms. I tried booting with WinXP CD. It tries loading the setup files and then comes to the blue screen with 0x0000007B error.

From, linux, i'm able to mount and see all the data and contents of the windows Disc.

Please help me to fix this. I need windows up and running badly. Thanks in Advance.

Please note, I do not have a floppy drive.

Welcome to TSF, vrkrao :)

Part of Windows Update would include the monthly MSRT scan for viruses. If an infection was found in a System file like atapi.sys and removed by MSRT, it would lead to the 0x7B error you now see because the System file that was infected and now broken, is needed to boot Windows or that the (still infected) MBR points to a file that's been removed or modified.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down...ils.aspx?id=16

The MRT.log (assuming it's written before shutdown), found in the Windows\Debug folder, should enable you to check whether the above fits your scenario, if so, it should detail which files were infected.

My boot record needs replacement. I have given the bootrec command from the install CD a few times now and get the disk not found error. Is this drive beyond boot repair? Would one of the tools like the NTDLeader tool or Hirens etc at least recognize the HD?

If unbootable I'd at least like to start the process of getting some data transferred using a different HD.

At the System Recover options of the installer CD, I don't get anything in the window for operating system.

These errors occurred when trying to clone one drive to another with Clonezilla, a Linux tool used to copy disks. It contains an option which I thought to refresh the boot sector. Such a command should not have effected the source disk but who knows.

Hi everyone,

After closing our Asus laptop 2 nights ago (but not shutting it down), BSOD appeared with the following message:
STOP: C0000135 The program cannot start because %hs is missing from your computer. Trying reinstalling the program.
I've tried many different recovery/repair attempts after looking through the forum for answers, but nothing seems to have worked. My last attempt was to retrieve the DMP files, but the computer won't reboot to accept the command (currently, default setting of "No DMP" is selected, unfortunately).

Here is the process when I start up the laptop:
- (F8 accesses the safe boot menu, otherwise, the following process is what usually occurs when I start up the laptop)
- "Starting Windows" message with icon
- BSOD with error message
- ASUS logo page
- Windows Error Recovery message (asks to Launch Startup Repair Tool or Launch Normally)
- "Windows is loading files page"
- "Windows Corp" page
- Startup Repair checks for problems and fails; sends info to Microsoft Corp about problem
- Startup Repair main window offers option of "View diagnostic and repair details" or "View advanced options for system recovery and support", or Shutdown, Finish, and Cancel
- I click on Advanced options and I input keyboard language and admin password, then its takes me to System Recovery Options, which includes Startup Repair Tool, System Restore, System Image Recovery, Windows Memory Dia... Read more

Ok So I got myself into a unique bind here. I was trying to install some custom system files (for a theme) and I did it wrong and now I cant open explorer.exe . I dont want to goto a backup because this is a easy fix. (in my view). So I need to know how to run command prompt with administrative privleges from command prompt.

I am trying to do this command:

copy explorer.exe C:\Windows\

So if there is also another command I can just tack onto that that gives me admin rights to do it. I would be happy.

A:Run administrative command prompt from command prompt

On a friend's computer that also has win 7 64 bit installed, make a system Repair CD.

Boot from the system repair CD

go to a command prompt.

CREATE A SYSTEM REPAIR DISC

START | type System Repair | Enter key | Create Disc button

GO TO A COMMAND PROMPT USING A SYSTEM REPAIR DISC

1) Insert System Repair Disc into optical reader.
2) Shutdown your computer.
3) Boot up your computer from the System Repair Disc
If your computer doesn’t boot from the optical drive, then
Immediately after pushing your Power ON button,
start tapping the F2 key to get to the BIOS to change the boot order

On some computers, Immediately after pushing the Power ON button, start tapping the F12 key and choose CD/DVD to change the boot order only for this time.
4) Wait while a mini-version of Windows is loaded and finally the SYSTEM RECOVERY OPTIONS dialog appears.
5) NEXT
6) SYSTEM RECOVERY OPTIONS dialog
will search your system for installed versions of Windows.
7) select the Use recovery tools that can help fix problems starting Windows radio button |
NEXT
8) Choose command prompt from the list shown

Run any desired commands and type EXIT when finished.
Remove the System Repair Disc.
Shutdown your computer.
Power on your computer.
