computer crashes and restarts upon opening games

Q: computer crashes and restarts upon opening games

hi. i have been having a serious problem with my PC the last couple of days. simply, when i try to open any game, the computer crashes and automatically restarts.
about 2 months ago, i downloaded a free online game called Flyff. it worked fine for sumtime, but then it started making problems, and the most serious of them was that after it logs into the game, it crashes, freezes for like 3 minutes, then the computer resarts. didnt happen all of the time, but most of it. worthy to mention thati used to run the media player in the background, and it still ran while the game froze. when i posted this on the game forum, i found out that it's a very common problem in Flyff, which made me feel better (coz i know it's not affiliated with sumthing wrong in my pC alone), and i stopped playing the game...
just 3 days ago, the problem happened again, but with ALL other games!! warcraft III, civilization IV, and battle realms; all freeze when the game is about to start--by that i mean going into the game screen (for example after selecting single player, a certain mission, set the game settings, and now i will start to take control of the game). i ran many anti-spyware and anti-virus tests, all using guidance from tech guy forums. i removed many spyware and viruses, including a trojan i discovered in flyff, called ****_flyff (sorry, i didnt choose its name!), a trojan called intell32, many others as well. i imagined that the trojan of flyff was the cause of all this, as its the same problem happened with flyff, i even deleted both the source of the game and the installed folder; but it was not it. the problem didnt go away.
when i was fed up, i decided to make a clean format for drive c and install a new windows. i did it, and worthy to mention that when i chose to make a normal NTFS format, the drive wasnt completely freed: it said i have free 4.5 GB out of 5, and the windows folder couldnt b erased (i knew after i formatted, it still gave me the choice whether i wand to intall windows in a different folder or delete this one by pressing L). i installed the latest windows updates, ran a full microsoft anti-spyware scan after updating it, and the same i did with norton anti-virus. i installed civ IV, warcraft III, and i was shocked that the problem was even worse!! the computer crashes only by opening the game! warcraft freezes when trying to load the main menu, and civ IV even when displaying the '2k' logo (the very first thing). i even found out that the computer crashes after a while of opening the internet explorer!!! i tried every scanner and anti-malware i got, including ewidos, smitrem, killbox, hijackthis, cleanup, and kaspresky; all on the safe mode. well, after all that, the internet explorer worked fine (else i wouldn b able to post this now) but civIV and warIII, total failure.
i'm attaching my DXdiag file with this post.

i'm quite sorry for the long thread, and really i would appreciate any help. thanks a lot.

Preferred Solution: computer crashes and restarts upon opening games

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Also crashed when I tried to play Awesomenauts. I have not tried it with any other games.

I have had this sort of thing happen to me before, but I don't know how I fixed it. I've uploaded the dump the folder that was generated with the SF Diagnostic Tool and I have copied the useful part of the error message that pops up after getting back to the desktop.(I have no idea what to call it)

Hi, this is kind of a new thing for me posting on forums like this but I really need help.

A few weeks ago now I was around my fiance's house and we decided to swap his old motherboard with the one inside my computer because it was better. Then we found out it didn't work so put my one back.

Since then I have had problems when I try to play games or look at pictures. When I play World of Warcraft it shuts off after two minutes and says I have a Fatal Exception Error. Then I try to play these games I downloaded from the internet and they either just completely crash or my computer restarts. This also happens when I am looking at pictures.
It has only done this a couple of times when I am not doing anything.

It is obviously something that is very frustrating and I am just wondering if it is a Windows thing or to do with me changing motherboards or whether that was just a coincidence. I put this post in the Windows XP support because I am not really sure what the problem is. Should I post in the Motherboard thread as well??

Can someone help please? I really have no clue about computers.

The memory dumps all seem to point to your video drivers. Please:
- download a fresh set of the latest, Win8 compatible video drivers
- un-install the current video drivers from your system
- install the freshly downloaded drivers
- monitor for further BSOD's

Please be sure that the system is not overheating, that the system is being used on a hard, flat surface (preferably with a cooling pad), and that the system has been cleaned/blown out with canned air (DO NOT use a vacuum or air compressor - as they can cause damage to the system).

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Hi this problem has nearly ruined me and cost a fortune so far, first I'll explain the problem about 6 months ago I had a PSU blow out on me, so I replaced it and all was well for a time when the PC would shut down and then restart without even showing a BSOD, at first it was now and then but gradually got worse. At first I thought it might of been the CPU overheating, I also thought that when the PSU blew it caused damage to the MB. So over a period of time I have ended up replacing all the hardware. For a time it seemed okay but the problem soon returned. (just to note it only shuts down when playing or starting games, I can surf the net or play videos etc without a problem).

My next thought was that it was a software conflict so I have ended up rebuilding a second PC, with a new HDD just incase it was a virus etc, I've loaded Windows 7 (home) 32bit, installed the graphics card (GeForce 560 Ti) with latest Nvidia drivers and a Asus sound card. I then installed Minecraft just as a test game and sure enough it crashes.

So I have eliminated the possibility of it being a hardware problem or a software conflict. I then thought it may of been the graphic card drivers so I uninstalled the latest driver and installed a older driver, but the problem remaines.

Whilst trying to check detals of my system, I noticed that the "Windows Experiance Index" score was only 1.0 whereas in the past it's always around 5.something, it shows gaming as 1.0 and Gaming Graphics as 1.0,... Read more

I see you have Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 8.00 GB but you have Windows 7 32 bit installed. With windows 32 bit you will be limited to use only 3.25 GB out of 8.00 GB. Any particular reasons for not using the 64 bit of windows?

From the one dump in your zip files shows you are getting

Their usual causes for this bug check are: Kernel mode driver, System Service, BIOS, Windows, Virus scanner, Backup tool, compatibility

Hello first off I wanna say thanks to everyone who'll spend their time in helping me with this annoying problem.

The story goes as follow I've had this problem for ages (probably even since I had my PC) ,some times less some times more.It was happening under Windows Vista (32bit) and Windows 7 (32 bit).Currently I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit.

Most of the time it happens when I'm playing a game (ex: Team Fortress 2 ,Portal 2 ,Starcraft 2 ,League Of Legends) ,rarely my PC freezes when I watch x264 movie files ,but not any more I think.

What happens is my PC either freezes or randomly restarts or I get a BSOD one of the 3.

Some days I play all day without a single crash ,but some days it crashes every 15 minutes ,then stops ...and then happens again.

I've tried to update my video/sound drives and change them countless times ,it has helped to some point ,but the problem has been very consistent.

My Computers specs:
CPU: Intel Quad Core 2 Quad Q6600 @2400mhz (9x267)
MB: ASUS P5KR
RAM: Corsair XMS2 DHX CM2X1024-6400C5DHX x2 (2x1GB)

Greetings BleepingComputer,

I am having issue with my machine playing games. Here are the circumstances of the crashes:

Whenever I open up any game (it didnt used to be this way) once I get to the main menu and/or the exact moment I reach 100% of loading a level, the machine crashes and instantly reboots (no BSOD just a brief shut down into a restart). You should also know that this is a fresh HDD, right off the shelf with a fresh install of EVERYTHING.

Some of the procedures I have done: I have uninstalled and reinstalled my graphics drivers. Installed older versions of graphics drivers. Uninstalled and reinstalled games. Reseated my video card and RAM. Run any and all programs as administrator. Run any and all programs in compatibility mode for windows 7.

Some procedures I have failed to accomplish: I have tried using the program "WhoCrashed" to get the dump files of crashes but I/it is unable to obtain them. I am unsure what I am doing wrong and hopfully you can point me in the right direction, should you need those files... which I imagine you will.

Hopfully what I have described to you is an adequate starting point, although I am certain I am missing details. Below you will find reports from the various programs that this site has recommended I provide to help diagnose the problem. You will also find attached reports that come from the BSOD Pinned Thread. Hello everyone.

I just had my new PC built for me this past week, everything has been working great until I downloaded digital copies of Starcraft 2 and Dead Space. Where things start getting weird is when I go to install them, I'll make it through about 40% of the install and then windows will crash, it flashes me a blue screen with text, and reboots all within seconds. this has happened to me numerous times now, although with determination I have managed to finally get both games installed, but occassionaly when I open Starcraft 2 I get the same blue screen. I'm starting to wonder if I need to reinstall windows or something, any ideas? I've attached the Windows_NT6_BSOD_jcgriff2 file for review.

So this has been happening for a couple of days now and i haven't been able to fix it.

A few things i've tried;

Reinstalled GPU drivers (Nvidia GeForce 332.21 Driver)
Restored windows to a previous point (about a month ago, which i'm sure was before this problem)
Run virus scan (online, and on my computer).

I have collected some things (and attached) the WER file from the crash which i found in the event viewer, and this, which was just text in the viewer which didn't seem to have a file.

I need help.
I have an uncle who lets me use his comp. for almost a year now.
We tackled all sorts of problems before but recently thing are very...odd.
I play Age of Empires II,III,Axis & Allies, and a Company of Heroes demo.
I could play them for hours with the graphics on low.
Anyway...About a month or two ago we got a new video card.
After installation I played Age II-good.
Then Age III on high settings-great!
But when i tried Company of Heroes and Axis & Allies they both played well without lag, etc.
But after 10 min my Gateway monitor goes blank screen but I can still hear the sound from the fighting or music. So I go back and play Age III and after 2 hours it does it too!!
I know the computer has surpassed the requirements for all the games.
I don't think it's any programs or virus's because we wiped the comp clean before installation and one time before all this I played Age III with 30 programs on and it never restarted.
I don't know what could be causing this.
I'll post the specs later for better analysis.
This is really bothering me ... I haven't played any games because of it .

A:Computer restarts after games

The comp has a little screen that always has the temp. for something. Is that it?

I'm still working on the specs...this comp is so confusing.
One thing I learned is that when the MHz are at 200 AGP in the BIOS the internet works and AOE III works. When I put it on 150 AGP Axis & Allies and Company of Heroes works but the internet doesn't work.

Okay I downloaded a driver catalyst for my Radeon X1350 video card and it helped AOE III (I play a long game and it hasn't gone blank screen) but playing the other games still goes wrong.
All and all I don't feel any closer to the answer....

Oh!!! I mean Radeon X1650. (If you've been reading up to this point you can tell I have no idea what I'm doing.)

I am not sure where in the forum this belongs. I am sorry if I placed it wrong, and a mod moves it, I will be grateful.

I have windows xp pro, pentium 4 cpu and 1.50 GB of ram. I am not sure what other system info to post.

A problem had developed where when trying to use windows movie maker, way towards the end of saving a project, computer would crash and restart.

I stopped using WMM and didn't seem to have a problem with anything else. The same thing started happening with some other .avi to dvd programs.

But now recently, I noticed that when I try to do a McAfee virus scan, it crashes 1-2 hrs later, just prior to completion. System crashes and restarts.
This I need to correct, now that it is interfering with security.

I do have and run Malewarebytes Anti-Malware and Webroot SpySweeper, and I haven't had a problem with them yet.

I do have and run CCleaner frequently. I also run Disk Cleanup and the IE cleanup in the control panel frequently.

I keep the computer updated with microsoft. I believe that all of my drivers are well maintained as well.

How can I tell what is causing this condition?

Please keep in mind that I am from an older, non technical generation, and that these steps that are easy and second nature for you are major accomplishments for me. Some times the terms and language that you use everyday are like me learning a second language. But I am trying to learn.

You want errors, not information items or warnings. How To Use Event Viewer - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/40108/how-to-use-event-viewer/ The fact that McAfee crashes is nothing new...any program can crash at any time because of damaged files which prevent it from its specified tasks. At first I was looking around for answer.. But now I'm going to ask it.
OK.. The computer fans and interior are clean. I put thermal paste on CPU. And that did not work. The problem I am having is randomly why im doing something, the computer will crash in one of 3 ways. I'll here it make the sound as if it shut down, but i can still do stuff on the computer for like 10 more seconds.(It sounds like it restarted). Other way is it will just go black screen and the computer wont restart but it will stay on, and the red light on the front pannel will just glow red steadally.. and it wont do anything after that, i have to hold power button to shut it off. And last way is that it will just restart it self.(black screen then reboot).
I dont know what to check realy. But i checked CPU and it stays around 45 - 55 C.
So not overheating. But I know when it might crash.. Randomly the screen willl have a little flicker go across the screen. little faded black line go across. But if u have questions for me i try best to answer. Besides that, this is all that i can provide off top of head. Also if i just leave it at desktop doing nothing it wont crash.

We need your system specs including make and model of your motherboard, make, type, and amount of RAM installed, video card, psu make and rated wattage output, etc.

We need to know your security software.

How old is your system? Have changed any of the hardware or installed any software recently? What are parameters of your cpu for temperature?

Are all your fans working, i.e., case, cpu, video card, etc.? What is the system temps?

Do you get any Blue Screens when it crashes and if so what are the error codes?

Ive been trying to sort out this problem for a while, when I run windows it will eventually crash or restart. It crashes/restarts more when playing a game or watching a video. On some occations it will lag horribly before doing so, and sometimes a crash will end up in a blank screen.
Things I have tried to resolve this:
- Reinstalling windows
- Replacing power supply
- Replacing graphics card
- Replacing RAM

What should I do next?

Specs: Windows xp Home
AMD XP 2200 (properly cooled)

Sound Blaster Audigy 5.1
550w Power

All i can recommend is formating the hard drive, doing a fresh install with everything, doing what you already did, and if all else fails, replace the MOBO, sorry about your problem, believe me i know how frustrating failing systems can be. also make sure your hard drive is in good health, try to check voltage settings as well. make sure your bios settings are set to manufacturer's default, and disable ANY kind of overclocking if enabled, that could be the solution as well, i know when i overclocked my p4 from 3.2 to 3.46 i had the crash-restart thing going on whenever a 3d application was launched. best of luck to you buddy my heart goes out to you.

So, this problem has only appeared ever since I moved homes; which was about 3 months ago. Before, I could play whatever games I wanted without a problem. However, ever since I moved, playing certain games causes my PC to just restart. Not shutdown, but just restart as is.

There is no BSOD or error messages when the PC restarts. The games that I have that would restart the PC are:
- 7 Days to Die
- Planetside 2
- CS:GO
- Dragon Age: Inquisition (However, the times it crashed with this game were few)

Those were only some of the games that would restart my PC while games like Minecraft never did any harm. Any help to resolve this issue would be appreciated.

P.S. I have attached the zip file stuff asked for when making a thread

Hello everyone, I'm having some trouble with my computer. Hope you can help me out.
Over the past weeks I have been playing whitout and problems, but this week after playing tha sames games my screen would freze and after that a restart would happen.
In some games it does that in other it doesn't. For example PUBG would work great but Subnautica for instance would crush after 30 mins of use.
My CPU temps when it crushes are around 55-60, maybe even lower.
I did a 3DMark run and here are the results:
https://i.gyazo.com/974d596ff7d81ed590ed566d2b8e1c0b.png
I ran the memory diagnostic tool to see if it was RAM fault and everthing was ok
Maybe a PSU or GPU problem? Can you help me out?

My computer specs are:
CPU: i5-8600K OC to 5GHz 2.8V
CPU cooler: Noctua nh-d15
GPU: MSI 1080 armour edition 8Gb (not oc yet)

Please help! my computer randomly restarts when I'm playing games. This happens only when I play heavy games like skyrim. I've read a lot from forums recently and tried multiple things to fix it but the trouble won't go away! I've installed latest drivers, checked for viruses, cleaned computer from dust, troubleshooted, checked Bios and checked temperatures. The temperatures are normal even when I am gaming, so it's not overheating. But when the computer chrashes a black screen pops up and a strange noise comes up. I am not sure if my PSU is correct strength for my computer now that I have recently vought new GPU,CPU, RAM and motherboard.

My PC specs are:

Intel core i7/4790k 4.00ghz
NVIDIA Geforce GTX980
8gb ram
1tb hdd
ASUS motherboard Z97-A
PSU Corsair 650w

here are my voltages. http://i60.tinypic.com/2ly08hy.png

and I dont know the fan specs, but if it's reallly necessary then I'll find out somehow.
Please help! This is really bugging me now and I would admire every answer or solution given!

A:My computer restarts when i play games

So far, u have a nice rig but the model of the PSU is needed to give any suggestions there as Corsair makes a lot of 650 wat PSUs and telling us it is getting 12 .38 volts from the wall is not enough.

A:computer restarts when playin games!

Welcome to TechSpot

Download and install the following 4 programs, each in their own permanent directory:
Spybot S&D http://www.safer-networking.org , let it "immunise" your PC, takes only a few seconds.
Adaware Personal SE http://www.lavasoftusa.com
HijackThis http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/
CWshredder http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

Before running any of the above, always make sure you have the latest program-versions,
and do an online-update in Adaware and Spybot for the latest definitions.

Reboot in Safe Mode (press F8 a few times upon booting).
If you have "BeginToSearch" etc. run CWShredder first and let it fix whatever it can.
If not, run Adaware, then Spybot. Let them each fix whatever they can.
Then reboot again in Safe Mode.

Now run Hijackthis with NO other programs open, but DON'T let it do anything yet.
Make sure you have read TomCoyote's instructions on HJT !!
Copy and paste the proper HJT report here in this thread. We may be able to help you further.

Also, your Windows XP is hopelessly outdated. You will need to install ServicePack 1 at least.
Then Let Windows do all its automatic updates.

A:Computer restarts when playing games

Have you checked your system tmperatures especially after gaming? Particularly check your video card fan and see if that and if your case fans are working.

Gaming puts a load on your video card which results in more heat and if it gets too hot the system wiill shut down to prevent damage.

I have a problem i noticed i have for about 3-4 days
My computer restarts every some minutes when im browsing in Mozilla Firefox(but not in Internet explorer)
And when i try to play in BFBC2 , my computer restarts before i even manage to get into a server
Or , when i try to play Red Faction Armageddon in directx 10/11 mode, it instantly reboots the computer, but not in directx 9 mode

I don't think this is a dust/heat problem, because i checked in GPU-Z and Speedfan the temperatures and they are normal, i cleaned the computer before some weeks and the fans are ok

I tried formating C: and reinstalling windows 7, installed ATI driver, and did a full windows update, and i still have the problem

- x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? 64 bit
- the original installed OS on the system? computer came without an OS, but this is the main/only OS installed now
- an OEM or full retail version? Retail
- OEM = came pre-installed on system
- Full Retail = you purchased it from retailer

- What is the age of system (hardware)? About 3 years i think, i have a second 2gb ram stick i bought some months ago
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) 1 day, reinstalled OS today and i still have the problem

I installed the motherboard and reformatted the hard drive and it seemed to work fine but when I load up any game it restarts the whole system. I checked my temps but they were fine and then I left my computer on for 24+ hours to see if it would restart but it never did. So I have no idea what the problem is I never really looked into it because I dont use that computer much but now I would really like to solve this problem. So you if you have any ideas please share. I'm not sure what you mean by 'reformatting' but what you should have done is rolled back the driver via the device manager

First of all, thanks in advance for any responses to this post. I?ve already researched this issue as best I could myself and have tried a few possible solutions with no luck. I?ll try to be very specific in describing my exact scenario as well as what I?ve already tried.

My computer restarts when loading newer games for example COD4, UT2k4 or L4D. It does not restart when loading older games for example Warcraft3:TFT, Diablo2 or AVP2. Everything seems to operate normally besides the restarts although the Windows startup loading screen may be slower. I couldn?t say for sure.

The problem is, when I try to run the game, my system reboots completely. Somebody on the Fallout support forums mentioned this could be due to my lack of ram.

Hello Hans ,

yes you need to add more ram / memory

here is a link to check your system & get pricing

http://www.crucial.com/

or

http://www.tigerdirect.com/

or

http://www.newegg.com/

or

http://www.memoryforall.com/

i would add at least a gig for those games & the video card are very demanding & ram / memory hogs

i would even seggust a newer/ larger power supply / at least a 600 wat thermaltake / 600wat ocz / or like name brand

for of your other devices also will put a strain in that department & cause a shut down

also some case cooling fans to lower the temps in your case to wich will make your system perform better

When ever I play these games my computer restarts and a list of those that work.

Now before I give the list I want to say, it will start up the game, the menu, and right when the game is done loading and ready for me to take over the character, BAM it goes to a black screen for a second and restarts.

Don't Work:
Battlefield Heroes
Half-Life 2
Fable: The Lost Chapters
Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth 2

Work:
The Sims 2
Counter Strike Source
Garry's Mod
Team Fortress 2
Day of Defeat Source
Half Life 2 Deathmatch
Portal
Runes of Magic
Lord of the Rings Online
A lot more games this is just to show how well my computer works

Now first off I did update everything, Lord of the Rings and Fable worked before now, but I got a virus and did a full hard-drive restore. Also I want to say most of the games I have are on very high settings, so I know my computer can run these games well. I got these codes when the games restart after I followed what other people told me and unchecked automatic restart. So please tell me what to do.

Hi and welcome to TSG.

We can't offer much advice without knowing a lot more about your machine.

If it is a big brand box (ie. HP, Dell etc) then what make and model is it?
If its a self build then tell us make and model for Motherboard, RAM, CPU, Power Supply, Graphics cards, Sound card, hard drives, DVD/CD drives etc. The more info you can give the better diagnosis people can make.

I bought my computer around 14 months back and I am facing this issue for the past two months

Issues and symptoms:

1) My computer restarts when I open a game. Sometimes it restarts just as soon the main page is loaded and sometimes it restarts just after a couple of minutes of playing or maybe an hour of playing

2) The BSOD doesn't appear at all.

3) THE MOST WEIRD ISSUE: The problem worsens during daytime. During the night I am able to play games normally without even tuning the fans. For example I played Farcry 3 in HIGH setting for about 4 hours straight last night from 11 o' clock onwards. This morning even the main page wont load before the computer restarts. The night the day before I was able to play for 30 minutes intervals before the computer restarted.

4) Just before the computer restarts though I have noticed that the EZ debug light on my computer for the CPU blink for say a tenth of a second.

5) The problem happens with all games be it Civilization 6 or Dishonored or Farcry 3.

Remedies tried:

1) I have disabled the option where the computer is supported to restart in case of failure in the Startup and Recovery section.

2) I have tried turning on the GPU and CPU fans to maximum but the computer still restarts

3) I ran the FURMARK test and saw that my computer restarts still so I suspected it to be the GPU, so I sent it to Asus; I don't know what they fixed but the computer still restarts

4) I check event viewer for error logs and I got thi... Read more

I bought my new PC about 5 months ago, and 2 months after I bought it, I would be playing any game and the PC would just restart without warning or anything. The screen just turns black. I have sent in and replaced my motherboard, GPU, CPU, power supply, CPU cooler, RAM, hard drive, power strip, everything except my case. Here is a brief list of my parts: Intel Core i7 7700k 1151 LGA Kaby Lake @4.20GHz MSI Z270-A PRO G.Skill Ripjaws V x2 8GB DDR4 4100MHz RAM NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB (also tested with AMD Radeon R9 270) Corsair 600w Power Supply (also tested with EVGA 500w PSU) NZXT S340 Corsair Hydro H100i v2 (also tested with Hyper 212 Evo)

I have replaced everything that could be a bad product, but it still happens. Please help.

Hey,

My computer randomly crashes at pretty much random times while it's on. I got it from my brother, and when I got it it was doing the same thing. Then I reformatted it and installed Windows XP, and it still does it. It's so weird because it's totally unpredictable when it happens. Every couple times I start up my computer, it will happen right away, before I even get the XP welcome screen. It shows some weird green screen with a bunch of squares, and just freezes at that. All I can do is restart it to get it going again. Another common time is when I'm in a game or something. It'll start up fine, but then when I click something like Play Game or Options it'll just go to a black screen and restart. I really have no idea what it could be. I'm going to take a picture of the screen the next time that green screen comes up. Oh and I tried installing SpeedFan and it says the temperatures are fine so I don't think that's it. My specs are:

AMD Athlon 64 3400+
1 GB RAM
GeForce 5700 LE 256 MB
Asus K8V-SE Deluxe motherboard

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi everyone, I think I posted this in the wrong forum last time, so here it is again, I need help pretty desperately, my computer has surpassed my level of knowledge in what its doing lately.I'm usually not too bad at sorting my computer out and can usually manage to deal with the problem, but recently it has been acting all strange. I'm afraid I've got more than one problem and I'm not entirely sure what they are.Help with any of these problems would be greatly appreciated. The problem started after I got a new monitor (GNR TS902W) and portable hard drive (WDXMS1200) for my birthday. In my excitement plugged them both straight in and after installing them they seemed to work fine.I say fine, but the monitor would turn on for about 10 seconds and then turn off, even though the LED was lit. I spent ages unplugging and plugging it in, turning it on and off, and notice that there was an image on the screen when it was on, it was just as if the backlight wasn't working properly. After more tinkering, the monitor turned on, and stayed on... a process I repeat every time I turn my computer on or take it off stand-by.I think the problem is either that the backlight needs time to warm up, or there is some underlying error with the drivers and the installation. That said, the new screen and hard drive combination inspired me to update the drivers and other related software, for the rest of the PC. I keep my system fairly up-to-date anyway, so I figured it wouldn'... Read more

A:Computer Restarts, Crashes And Hangs... What Is Going On?

Try this to get down to things:Go to Start -> Run then type in "msconfig" (without quotes) and on the main screen uncheck Load Startup Items. Restart your computer and it should start with minimal options. Go about your normal business and see if you still get hung up, reset, BSOD, ect with this. If you do, reply with what you were doing if there were any messages when it happened and if the BSOD does show up, post what the error was. Also, how much RAM do you have in your computer?NOTE: When you restart after using msconfig, you will get a popup that tell you that you used the program to change the way windows starts, just check not to lauch the tool and to not show this message when Windows starts.

Hi Raen,

Welcome to Tech Support Forums!

If you are still having malware problems, I will be glad to help.

First of all, your problem may be caused by hardware problems, and not necessarily a malware problem. Once we rule out malware, it would be probably time to check whether your hardware is operating within the prescribed limits.

There is an entry in your log:

C:\Program Files\ELECOM\WheelUtility2\ELEMOUSE.EXE

that I suspect is legitimate but I would like you to confirm it.

Familiar with it? And, if so, what do you use is for? Your feedback would be used to update our databases so that the items won?t be flagged as unknown entries, as they are now. Thank you for your time and effort in this.

Hi everyone,

I wasn't quite sure where to post this as I don't know what exactly the problem is.

Recently, my computer started crashing while watching video for prolonged periods of time, be it youtube or media center, streaming video online, etc.

The computer would go to a blue screen that said "windows encountered an error and shut down to prevent damage to the PC." It would automatically restart, but with no picture on the screen whatsoever. I would have to turn the computer off by holding the power button and unless I waited hours to turn it back on, there would be no video.

It's now gotten to the point where the computer crashes after being on for more than a couple minutes, regardless of whether I'm watching video or not.

I thought it might be the GPU, so I took the graphics card out and plugged the monitor directly into the motherboard, with no luck. No picture at all when I turned the computer on this morning, even with no GPU.

When the GPU was still connected, I couldn't keep the PC on long enough to open the program that would give me the GPU temperature to see if it was overheating.

Any thoughts?

A:Computer crashes and restarts with no picture

the GPU is an old geforce GT 220, the card itself is only a year old.

My computer keeps randomly restarting. It doesn't matter if I'm browsing the Internet or playing games it will just happen randomly. It crashes most frequently during the boot up after the initial crash. system repair will give me a few extra minutes but it eventually crashes again. When rebooting it will turn off and on and ONE of my case fans which is connected to my motherboard will flicker on and off. i have other fans connected to the board that do not do this.
I've never posted here so I'm not sure what I should include in this post but here are my parts.

Motherboard: gigabyte GA-970A-UD3 AM3+ 970 R
Video Card: Radeon HD 7770 1G
Power Supply: Corsair HX750 750W
CPU: AMD Phenom II 3.4G AM3 R
Memory: 4Gx2 Vengeance
Hard Drive: 1TB SATA 6.0 32M
Windows 7 Home edition 64bit

Things I've done:
-booted in safe mode (still crashed and restarted)
-system restore (still crashed but less frequent)
-checked and secured power connections to the mother board
-sysstem repair (same as restore)
-Began a virus scan but computer crashed before it could finish
-checked CPU heat (remains 35-45 degrees Celsius even while playing games)

let me know what information I need to add.

A:Computer Randomly Crashes and Restarts

Could be either your power supply, or RAM. Start with the easiest test first go here and download the .iso and burn to a CD and check your RAM.

Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

As for the power supply, your BIOS might monitor the voltages. If so check that the voltages are in spec. If the BIOS doesn't monitor voltages, you will need to use a Volt-Ohm-Meter.
