I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello! I'm consider swapping out my L540 1366x768 for a compatible 1920x1080 display. I'm pretty sure a TN panel will fit (I assume Lenovo don't make a different screen chassis based on screen type?) I'm just wondering if it's possible to replace the TN panel with an IPS one? I can see a few posts on the subject already but none I've found relating to the L540. Anyone managed this? Any issues? I'm very comfortable working on computers.

So I have 2 Dell Latitude E6320 laptops, one has a broken screen that I intend to repair and then sell the whole system.
But I was wondering if it was possible to buy a 1920x1080 screen to put in my personal laptop then take the old 1366x768 to replace the broken system.
Both have an i5 CPU with onboard intel 3000 graphics which should support 1080P output.
Any info is appreciated.

A:Upgrading screen resolution from 1366x768 to 1920x1080

It looks like 1366X768 was the only screen resolution offered in this model - so there won't be a cable harness that supports FHD.  The answer is almost ceratainly no - you can't upgrade the resolution in this model.

It appears to be an option, but you should realize that a display change will void your warranty and could require the purchase of parts other than just the panel (new wiring harness, or if it's a touchscreen, the entire top half of the system).

Hello all, I have HP ENVY 15T AE000 CTO (Touch) laptop. Mine is working just fine but since its now out of warranty period I was thinking of upgrading the display on the laptop. Currently I have 1366x768 resolution display. I want to upgrade it to the 1920x1080 (FHD) display. I have referred the manual for my laptop and found that the part number for the display 812690-001 for the FHD screen.I checked on the hp parts website but this one costs almost $500. Is there any alternative for this? and most importantly can I do it? I have replaced parts on the laptop before so getting this done with the instructions won't be an issue. The issue is the price of the parts. Is there any other cheaper option for 1920x1080p matte display?I would really appreciate some help.

Hi all,

We have a Dell Vostro 3700 laptop and we would like to replace the screen. It was originally fitted with a 1600x900 screen, but we would like to replace it with a 1920x1080 screen. Would this be possible?

Ser vi ce Ta g: 4GHR5N1

Some links to those screens: 1920x1080 screens and 1600x900 screens.

You also might be interested in how we ended up with a broken monitor:
a few months ago my father did the most stupid thing since he started carrying computers with him to work. It was a monday morning of course, 6:00. By accident he put the laptop (in it's bag) against the weel of his car and then rode of, with the rear wheel straight over his computer.
The computer was curved, the monitor assembly dented and the right side (with the disk reader) had a serious Z-curve, aside from also being quite a bit flatter.
Luckily the motherboard wasn't damaged. I downloaded the service manual, threw the computer open, bended the parts back in shape with some force and gave them some volume again. I removed the monitor and connected the pc to an external screen and now it's running fine again, with all the electronics working (including the DVD player), except the screen, which I didn't even test as the fluid flows freely around inside.
Long story short: Dell computers are well made!

It's working fine now but we would like to use it again as a laptop, so that's why we were looking for a replacement screen.

Dear guys,

I have a Tecra R850 laptop (the graphic card is an AMD Radeon HD 6450M) with a PA3916A-1PRP port replicator.

I already have a 23" running at 1920x1080 connected via HDMI.
I would like to buy a 27" to run it at 2560 x 1440.

So my ideal configuration would be the 27" at 2560 as main monitor and the 23" at 1920 as second monitor. One monitor (the 23") has Display Port, DVI and VGA input, the other one has DVI, Display Port 1.2, Mini Display Port 1.2, HDMI.

Is it possible to connect them as I wish (I would love to avoid the use of VGA)?
Do I need other stuff (another docking for example) to accomplish that?

Any idea is good for me!

Thanks a lot

mario

A:Tecra R850 with 27" display at 2560 x 1440 and 23" display at 1920x1080

Hi

Generally speaking you may be able to connect two external monitors at a time depending on your notebook model.

In user manual of Tecra R850 you can read that when the Toshiba HI-Speed Port Replicator II is connected to the notebook, you cannot use _notebook?s_ external RGB (VGA) port.
This port will not work.

Furthermore you cannot use port replicator?s HDMI port and Display Port at the same time.
The hi-speed port replicator II contains a slider which can be moved to choose either the HDMI port or Display Port.

So it seems that you have one option to connect two externa monitors: (VGA + HDMI)
one monitor to HDMI/Display port and other to VGA/RGB port (port replicator's RGB port)

Another option to connect two external monitors at the same time, you should use another docking solution like for example Dynadock U3. It supports an HDMI and DVI port which can be used at the same time.

I have Dell Inspiron 5547 laptop (Touch Screen, 15 inches, 16 GB RAM and i7 4th Gen processor, Out of Warranty). Some days back, suddenly the display went dim and anything is hardly visible. After some initial investigation, the display chip (may be VGA or LED display chip) on the motherboard appears to be burnt out (may be due to voltage surge). Even the numbers printed on the chip is not readable because of which it is difficult for the local repairing shops to repair this problem.
I think Dell India Service Center doesn't deal with chip level repair and hence replacing motherboard is the only way they can fix this. This will be very costly (considering that the laptop is not under warranty so will have to pay for warranty extension, motherboard replacement and repair service) and time consuming.
Hence, to avoid all this I have come here to seek some assistance.
If there are anyone using the same laptop (Inspiron 5000 series 5547 Touch Screen Display with i7 4th Gen Processor and 16 GB RAM) then could you please take a clear picture of your laptop's motherboard or if you recognize the display chip then only that should be sufficient. In this case, I can read the chip related number from the image and try to repair it.
What are the charges for buying a warranty for the laptop, motherboard of my laptop and repairing charge?

Request your response and help.

Regards,
Rohit Kumar

A:Display Issue - Dim Display for Dell Inspiron 5000 (Model 5547) - Touch Screen Display with i7 4th Gen Processor and 16 GB RAM

You'll have to call Dell about the possibility of a warranty extension;  in the US, it's sometimes possible but will likely run over $300 -- or about what a board replacement would cost.
If you're getting video, the GPU is OK -- and it's more likely the power circuit to the backlight that's bad.  It'll likely cost as much to repair as to replace the board -- though you'll still be putting $300-400 into an out of warranty system, so replacing the system may be a better idea (if you do this, consider buying a 3-year warranty with the next system).

I recently reformatted the hard drive of my Toshiba Satellite P505-S8980. It's an old laptop and was born with Windows 7. After reformatting, I upgraded the OS to Windows 10.

Now the maximum resolution I can choose is 1680x945. I really need to have the resolution be 1920x1080 once again. The reason is that this laptop is utilized to essentially convert my TV into a smart TV. I use an HDMI cable to connect to the TV. When I do this (it was fine before reformatting) the picture does not fill up the TV screen.

I've attempted to update the drivers in the device manager, however, I got a message that the best drivers are already installed.

How can I remedy this to have 1920x1080 again? Thanks!

I have a situation very much similar to the one described in this post below.

My machine is Dell E6400 in its lowest configuration and default video card, et cetera.

I got a Dell 2312HM monitor that's capable of 1080 and the highest I see available is 1600 x something with 1920x1080 not even shown. 1600x BTW looks awful. It runs by default the "recommended" 1366x768.

I deactivated the notebook screen, shut down the lid making the 2312HM the only screen to no avail.
I downloaded the driver for the 2312HM also to no avail. What else can I try?

I am running this via VGA port, could this be the problem, should I get the Display Port cable? There is no HDMI in the laptop computer, just DVI/VGA and DP. I was under the impression that VGA can display 1080.
I was also under the impression the stock video card can run 1080p.

Screen resolution will not display 1920x1080

Hi,
I'm running the latest official release of Google Chrome Browser.

I have laptop with 1920x1080 display and if Chrome is set at 100% zoom, everything is too small.

When I set Chrome to 150% zoom, things look okay. The problem is that for some webpages in Chrome, 150% zoom messes up the page really bad to the point where the webpage is almost unusable (overlapping pictures, text, etc). For webpages with this problem I find that I have to either have Chrome zoomed to a multiple of 100 (so either 100% zoom, 200%, 300%, etc). The problem is that doing so makes the page obnoxiously too big or too small. I've tried different zoom related plugins to help fix this issue but nothing works.

I notice I do not have this problem with Internet Explorer. I'm able to zoom in or out without the contents of the webpage becoming jumbled.

Can anyone help me?

Thank you

A:Help with Chrome browser, zoom issues on 1920x1080 display

Unfortunately, I know of only two options, neither of which I think you will be keen to.

1) Use IE9. I have both IE9 and Chrome installed on my computer, and I prefer IE9. I mainly use Chrome for the apps you can use with it, but for general browsing I prefer IE.

2) Reduce the resolution on your computer to 1600x900. This will make everything on the screen bigger, including web pages. I know it seems suboptimal to use a lower resolution than what the screen is capable of, but the difference in picture quality is minor and it will most likely solve your issue.

Hello,

The situation: I recently purchased a Samsung Syncmaster T260 monitor, which has an optimal, and native, resolution of 1920x1200 (16:10). The thing is amazing, and I only have one issue with it: When viewing inputs at a 1920x1080 resolution (such as my Xbox 360 hooked up through an HDMI cable), the picture is sligtly stretched vertically, as it displays the 1920x1080 on the full monitor screen. This creates a fair amount of "jaggedness," which makes sense kinda, if you figure every individual pixel from my Xbox is being elongated vertically, so everything wouldn't match up quite as intended.

My problem: I would like to find a way to have my monitor display 1920x1080 without it being stretched, i.e. I would have black bars running along the top and bottom.

My troubleshooting thus far: I can't directly alter the vertical and/or horizontal picture size through the monitor menu, as the HDMI input is digital, and my monitor won't let me re-size the picture when it is a digital input (not even sure if its possible in general), the re-sizing options are for analog inputs and are "canceled out" when I'm using a digital input. All it seems that I can do is alter the resolution, but that is already read from the Xbox input as 1920x1080, which is what I want it to be.

Without being able to re-size the picture through the monitor I am not sure how I could do this, or even if it could be done. What I basically need is to find a way for ... Read more

Hey Lenovo Boards, I've had my otherwise excellent T470 for a little over a year now. Lately, though (not sure precisely how long), this blotch of yellow and purple has appeared in the bottom-left corner of the display and doesn't go away. It's especially noticeable on a white background. It's getting bothersome. I've attached three pictures here. What do you think it is? I got the nice 3 year warranty with accidental damage and everything, so I'm pretty sure I'd be alright if I took it to the local Lenovo repair center. But all the same, I'm wondering if any of you recognize the issue.  Thanks in advance, and if you need any more info from me, don't hesitate to ask!

A:T470 - Yellow-Purple Blotch in Corner of Display (IPS 1920x1080)

That is certainly panel damage.  It will need to be replaced.  Most of the time, that kind of problem is due to physical damage (pressure), but with accidental damage coverage, it doesn't matter.  Call support; in U.S., it is 1-800-426-7378.

My computer has been making a lot of noise lately, in fact it's been going on for probably the past 8 months or so. The first month I mostly ignored it hoping it would go away, which it did, then a few weeks later it came back and I decided it was time to investigate.

I have narrowed the problem down to being the power supply fan, mainly because it's very easy to hear and detect that it's coming from the back of my PC (and in that area). So I cracked the case open, unscrewed a buncha stuff, took the power supply apart somewhat so I could try to dust off the fan, but there was no dust to be seen. I dusted it anyway, removed some plastic pieces they had in there that seemed to serve no purpose, popped it back together, crossed my fingers that I had fixed it, but no luck.

The odd thing is that this noise will seem to come and go, usually it will be on jet engine sound level for ~2 weeks, then be relatively quiet for a month or so, every time I hope that it magically fixed itself, but now I've decided I need to do something about it.

The model is a SilverStone SST-ST65ZF, 650 Watt supply w/ PFC (whatever that means).

So on to my actual question. What I'm trying to figure out is, should I order the same replacement piece? Is this a solid piece of equipment and I just stumbled across a bad one originally? Is there a more ideal power supply with a quieter fan (in the same general price range, say <$200) that I should order instead?

All,

Thanks to everyone that takes the time to read this. I want to replace my OEM MSI MS-6577 mobo that came with my HP for another version of the MSI MS-6577 mobo but the new one would have an AGPx4 slot and the current one only has PCI slots. I read that replacing the motherboard on OEM systems with Windows XP like mine has, will cause big problems unless it for the exact same make and model motherboard. In my situation, it is the exact same make and model but a different version of the mobo that would have an additional AGP slot. Would this give me BSOD or would the swap go smoothly? I am also hoping not to have to reinstall Windows XP without having to go buy a copy as I read you can't do that off recovery discs with OEM Windows XP builds. Thank you everyone again.:grinthumb

A:Can I replace my OEM mobo with the same make & model but different version?

The problem would be with Microsoft

I believe you could put a different version of motherboard on there, heck, you could put an entirely different make of motherboard if you wanted as long as it fits the case's form factor. Simply, the screw holes on the motherboard have to align with the holes on the case.

The trouble you will run into is with Microsoft. Your copy of XP is associated with the serial number, model, and make of your present motherboard, and it's recorded in Microsoft's database. That's what happens when you activate a Microsoft product. The operating system or software will get your motherboard's information and record it. Now here comes the problem...

If you put in a new motherboard, the operating system on your hard drive is going to look up your previous motherboard's information when it boots up. If it sees a new motherboard, it will say, "I'm not associated with you, so I must not be licensed with you!" and it will tell you to contact Microsoft or buy a new copy of Windows.

What you have to do then is call Microsoft and ask them if you can associate your copy of Windows with a new motherboard. They will want to know why. Usually, they will only do that if your motherboard failed, exploded, or somehow became destroyed so you had to replace it. I don't know about motherboard upgrades. To Microsoft, each and every motherboard is a separate computer, and you are only licensed for one computer.

I have contacted lenovo customer service for so many times regarding the repeating issues that I have with my bluetooth connection on my THINKPAD A475 device. I got my wireless card replaced for 3 times in 2 weeks already and also a keyboard replacement due to the cracking noise and stuck "TAB" key. The problem keeps happening even 3 times of on-site repair and also the keyboard they replaced for me also got problems already, the space key will register two times and the "BACKSPACE" , "ENTER", "SHIFT" are all making weird  cracking noise and they all feel completely different to other keys. I told them that I will not want to repaire and I want a full refund or replacement of new model that I prefer if I have the same problems again for the fourth time. I am completely frustrated  because they keep telling me that they will not refund me or replace my laptop if I cannot show them the tax invoice or receipt of purchase of this laptop. I told them that I do not keep it anymore  and they can send someone here to come  and pick up this laptop as it has serial number and all that. But still they refuse to do so and keep going back to the same question and answer and passing me to other customer service advisers.  I am tired of this infinite troubleshooting and my workflow has been completely ruined by this laptop. I hope the lenovo staff here who see this post will help me with this issue and delay no more. If I still can't get the solutions that I want th... Read more

Hi guys. I'm UK based so models may be a bit unfamiliar to US members. I would guess none of you use BT, (wise move)!

Currently using BT HomeHub V1.0, (yes there's still one out there), on BT broadband line with BT Vision services and with all internal network connections to it connected through a Netgear WNR3500 router. I'm a good level of user (software developer) but definitely NOT a network whizz so chances are I'm missing something important.

The idea was to take DHCP and Wireless control from the HomeHub and give it to the Netgear. Many long attempts later.... These services can be disabled on the HH and enabled on the Netgear easily. However the BT device will not give up control of DHCP and still allow network machines to see the internet! BT HH was given a fixed IP address in the Netgear, the same as its standard allocation when it is in control (192.168.1.254), and this was used for the gateway address in TCP/IP setup and in Netgear settings. I can get everything set up internally so the Netgear is in control with the HH DHCP and Wireless switched off, machines can all see each other and talk to each other perfectly, but no one sees the internet!

I would really like to replace the HH completely so was looking for a basic non-router type modem to leave the WNR3500 as the network manager. Thought of the Netgear DM111P as it was an economic Netgear match but it has such rotten reviews for reliability in terms of heat that I went off that model an... Read more

A:Recommend modem only model to replace BT HomeHub

I have found and am currently considering the Draytek Vigor 120. Vigor say: "You can connect any device to the Vigor 120 which has a PPPoE client facility. This means the actual connection to your ISP is still PPPoA (unlike other modems which only provide PPPoE native bridging), which is a unique feature of this product and makes it compatible with all UK ISPs where PPPoA is used as standard." Should work ok with the Netgear WNR3500 and anything to make for a simpler more controllable connection.

Anyone know this or can offer advice as to whether it is a suitable unit?

What if I replace the motherboard with the exact same model BUT change processors? Will I have any issues?
Was in the process of updating the bios. Not sure what I did wrong but it's dead. Have to send it back to super micro. I ordered an identical motherboard. But was updating the bios so I could switch from a quad core westmere chip to a hex.
Everything I have read states the OS is married to the motherboard (Win7 64 OEM). So if I get away with no issues from the motherboard swap, will the processor swap give me issues.
My system is a dual boot ubuntu 64/Win7 setup. I don't want to reinstall if I can help it. Advice would be appreciated.

(thanks admins for correcting this. Didn't mean to hijack that other thread)

A:Replace motherboard with exact same model BUT change processor?

you should not have any problems with Win7 even if its an OEM version. MS can reset if you have to call don't worry, just call them and explain what happened they are not going to crawl through the phone line and tear your head off or anything.
