"save the changes” message after removing the protection from workbook

Q: "save the changes” message after removing the protection from workbook

Some time ago I protected the Excel 2010 file from the path File > Protect workbook > Encrypt with password and gave it a password. Now that I removed that password via below method:

Open the workbook and use Save As
In the lower right of the file window will be "Tools"
Choose "General Options"
Clear the password.
Save over your old file.

the file is openable without wanting a password. But the problem is when I open it and close it immediately, even without moving the active cell, the message "Do you want to save the changes you made to 'test.lsx'?" appears. While there hasn't occurred any changes to that file so why I face this message any time I want to close the file?
Hasn't the file been corrupted?

Preferred Solution: "save the changes” message after removing the protection from workbook

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: "save the changes” message after removing the protection from workbook

I've seen that happen because there are changes to the properties of the file that can't be seen, example when opening .doc files in Word 2007 or 2010 then closing saving the .doc format.

I am wondering if I can save my outlook express "message rules" settings that I've so painstakingly and time-consumingly set. I am getting ready to re-install and I'd rather not have to re-do it all when I set up the new system. I couldn't find a specific folder for "rules" under outlook express....any ideas?

thanks! I figure that since I can save IE5 settings, .mbx folders, etc, I should also be able to do this as well..

whenever i click a link, however, i get a message that says;

"do you want to open the file, or save it to your computer?"

The option to always do the selected action is greyed-out.

How do i make it so that whenever i launch a program through a link on my desktop, it doesn't ask, and just opens the program?

OK, so I was having trouble launching Illustrator. Finally solved by downloading a new mac.dmg file. Apparently something was corrupted after Acrobat 8 Update. So now I can open Illustrator, but get an Error Message: "Can't Save Illustration. Can't Print Illustration" when I edit existing or create new artwork.

Any suggestions?

I'm on Mac OS X version 10.4.11. Illustrator 12.0.1. And every time I get an update alert for Version Cue CS2 Update, it can't complete the update (don't know if that has anything to do with all this!)

I open a Word file, I write for about 1 hour (during which time I can save text) and then I get a message saying "Word cannot save file - wrl (some numbers) error"... and then a txt file is created in My Docuents, that contains only ???? And then my work is just gone... (for now I close Word and save my work in a flashdrive every 5 minutes...)
I have F-Secure software, a legal one, it did not find any virus or spyware. Help please!!!!
PS. I own an Acer laptop, and run XP.

in Word go to Tools/Options/Save. Make sure Always create backup copies is unchecked as well as Allow Fast Saves. If this still fails, then go to Start/Run and type appwiz.cpl. Hi, TSG Masters.

I recently inherited a laptop from a colleague who left (OS is Win XP, SP2 installed). Unfortunately, I believe it was infected by the "autorun.vbs" trojan. Everytime I double-click on the mounted hard drives, a new window will open. And when I right-click on them, garbage messages appear instead of the "Open" and "Explore" options.

Avast! was the previously installed anti-virus program, but I replaced this with F-Secure. A recent scan was able to delete the trojan, but now, I can't get rid of the "Can not find script "c:\autorun.vbs"" message everytime I double click on my drives. And the garbage texts are still there where I right click.

I plan to transfer my important files from my desktop to this laptop (via external hard disk), but I'm afraid it might get infected while the laptop isn't completely "clean".

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Sometimes I click on the X to close the workbook and I accidentally press NO when the computer prompts me to save the workbook since it usually comes up in a yellow box that does not really capture my attention. This usually happens when I'm in a hurry or late at night when I'm half asleep. Is there some code that makes a message box pop up with a message that says in big bold letters "YOU FORGOT TO SAVE YOUR FILE" when I click on the X to close the workbook? If so, this will save me a lot of headackes.

On the Tools menu, click AutoSave.
If the AutoSave command is not on the Tools menu, you must install the AutoSave add-in.

Every now and then, I get the "Simply Remove Hardware" icon on my taskbar. Because I have external hardware that I use from time to time, but not regularly, this "icon" is an annoyance and I wish to shut it off.

Anyone know how?

I called Microsoft, but because my version of XP is OEM, they wanted to charge me a minimum of $45 to answer this simple question. (No wonder so many people hate Microsoft. If I did not need Windows for certain programs, I would switch to Linex in a heartbeat.)

Anyway, Microsoft did not feel "benevolent" enough to help me out, so I'm wondering if anyone here can.

Just one simple line. Just change the portions in red to reflect your true save path and cell to use. You may need to also change the xls file extension if you are using Office 2007 or newer.
Code:

I have a user that is having a similar problem to the one described in this thread: http://forums.techguy.org/business-applications/593620-solved-excel-password-protected-files.html

The difference is that she is having this problem in Excel 2010. I tried navigating to File > Options > General and then removing her name from the 'Username' field, but after saving the workbook, closing Excel and then trying to open the workbook again, she is prompted by Office to enter her name and initials. Even if we delete her information from here and click 'ok' the password prompt comes up (as it should) but still shows '<file name>' is reserved by <user>...

The workbook was originally created as an Excel 97-2003 workbook and apparently has macros; I tried saving it as a .xlsx but had to save it as a macro-enabled .xlsm file. I then tried the same steps to remove her username, but this did not resolve the issue.

Until today my computer, running Windows XP Home Edition, had two user accounts; one for my mother (titled "Nancy Loury") and one for me (titled "Kev"). However I found myself simply using my mothers more often and saw having two accounts when both of us really only use one as redundant. So I decided to delete the Kev user account. The account had all of my very important files in it under My Documents. When I went to delete the account, it of course asked me if I wanted to save the contents of the My Documents folder for the Kev account under a folder labeled "Kev" on the Nancy Loury user's desktop. I of course did want to save them, so I clicked "Save Files", the account was deleted, and on the desktop is the file labeled "Kev" which, according to the system, should hold all the contents of the My Documents from the Kev account. I clicked on the folder and to my horror I found that it was completely empty; the system had not saved a single one of the files in My Documents like I had asked it too and like it said it would do. Nothing is there.

I've no idea why this happened, all I know is I'm extremely upset about this. What do I do to recover the files from the now deleted My Documents?

Hi,

Is there any setting to tweak , which will display all the 3 options for HTML attachments as well?

Hi,
As you know, the Open-Save-Cancel dialog box helps you prevent your computer from affecting by virus while downloading.
So I suggest you test to reset all zones to a lower level temporarily and then please attempt to download this html attachment again.

However, since you can normally download the other documents, I suspect there is some restriction in the website which you are trying to view. I recommend you to contact the administrator of that website if possible.
could you please send me the link of the website from where you are trying to download the html attachment?

Hello Everyone

I am having some difficulties finding a solution to my problem. I am hoping someone can help or lead me to the right direction.

I have a workbook called Data.xlsm, below is a sample:

ID, Name, commission
1 john 1000
2 eric 2000
3 ryan 3000

Now I have another excel file called Temp.xls which looks pretty much the same as Data.xlsm.

ID, Name, Commission
1 john 200
2 eric 300

I need a macro that will read the Temp.xls and grab the commissions and bring them to Data.xlsm. The commissions need to be summed based on ID.

The final Result on Data.xlsm should be as follows:
1 john 1200
2 eric 2300
3 ryan 3000

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Make sure you place this in the same folder as your Temp.xlsm file and press the button

I have attached dummy versions of both the workbooks below.
1.The spreadsheet titled "Issues Log" has a list of issues, each with a unique identifier(column A) which is linked to a unique cab no (Column B).A brief description of the issue is given in Column C.
2.The spreadsheet titled "Link to Display Spreadhseet" has a list of CAB numbers (Column A) which corresponds to the "Issues Log" but the order is jumbled up.
In column B ,I need to place a link which will display the "Unique Identifier" code from the "Issues Log" corresponding to the cab number. When a person clicks on this Unique ID code ,one of the two things should happen: i.either the breif description of the issue (Column C in the "Issues Log") should pop up in a box.or
ii.Clicknig on the link will open up the issues log.

I hope I am clear in what I want.i am ok with using long winded formulas, tried some combinations of Match,IF etc but always hit a brick wall.I am not good with Macros,VBA.Any help/pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Just a question, since you need to know what is the issue with its description. why do need the unique identifer for that and linked it do description. It might be a silly question, but please forigve me for that.

In case you don't need the unique identifier column, you can use vlookup for the populating the details.

I'm using IE 10.

A:How to disable "Open, Save and Save As" prompt

Each time I tried to any document (ex. DOC or PDF file), IE will popup the follow prompt: "What do you want to do with ..."

You might be able to add Open with... to a right-click menu.   But that will probably only help for files which are local, e.g. don't need to be downloaded.  I think the reason for the prompt is essentially to help route the download and notify
users of the fact that if they just try to open it they will be opening a temporary file.  E.g. it typically always goes into the TIF first.  You could probably confirm and refine these ideas using ProcMon, e.g. looking for tests of registry
values and writes of files.
For example, I just did a BING search for  filetype:doc, did a right-click Open (as one of the other thread's responders had suggested) and still see the above prompt, because the file has not been downloaded yet.  That's IE's job so that's how
it does it, with a prompt.  But then since there is a filetype association for the .doc extension when I choose Open no more intervention is required (although as the prompt notes "The file won't be saved automatically." so if a user tries to update it,
e.g. a Word document or a spreadsheet, anything they do would only be preserved if they did a File Save As... or whatever those applications provide for that use case.)
In fact, that warning is probably the main reason for the prompt when such an explicit Open command... Read more

On Opera I can right-click a picture, click "save to download folder" and it downloads the picture immediately, without displaying the "save as" dialog. It also always gives it a unique name without asking me if I want to overwrite.

Hi, and welcome to tsg

does it do it when its saving to the disk just on the file command - you may have a disk or memory error

in the event viewer do you see anything which mayhelp
control panel> admin tools>event viewer

otherwise it may be worth unclicking the reboot on error

control panel > system>advanced >startuo and recover > box for reboot - and then repost the full error message

Hi There
I have searched the internet to see if I could find a macro that opens a workbook and runs a macro. In other words, I have workbook 1 (master workbook) and workbooks 2,3,4 ...1000. So far I found a macro that opens workbooks 2, 3, ...1000 by running a macro from workbook 1. Now I have a macro in workbooks 2,3,....1000. What I want is to run the workbooks 2,3,...1000 macro from workbook 1. I can do it if I call the workbook name. But I don't want to do that, since I have over 1000 workbooks. Below is the code.

Sub WWNumbers()

Dim fso As Object 'FileSystemObject
Dim fldStart As Object 'Folder
Dim fld As Object 'Folder
Dim fl As Object 'File
Dim Mask As String
Dim thisFolder As String
Dim fullFilename As String

Set fso = CreateObject("scripting.FileSystemObject") ' late binding
Set fldStart = fso.GetFolder("C:\Users\Mario\Documents\Folder1 Name\Folder2 Name")
Mask = ActiveCell.Value
thisFolder = fldStart & IIf(Right(fldStart, 1) = "\", "", "\")
Debug.Print thisFolder, Mask
If Not IsError(Dir(thisFolder, vbReadOnly)) Then
If Dir(thisFolder & Mask, vbReadOnly) <> "" Then
Workbooks.Open Filename:=thisFolder & Mask
Else
fullFilename = ListFolders(fldStart, Mask)
If Len(Trim(fullFilename)) > 0 Then
Workbooks.Open Filename:=fullFilename ' workbook2 opens here just fine
Application.Run "UnhideSheets" ' I get an error here
End If

End If

End If

I have two workbooks that I am using and I am trying to add one cell's data to another cell in another Excel workbook. It used to be as simple as beginning to "add" another cell's data(from another workbook you just migrate to the other workbook) into a different workbook. It isn't working like it used to in Excel 2003. Cant' speak of it for Excel 2007 as I never had it.

Any thoughts on why it won't work? Any way to make it work?

Merging Data from Multiple Workbooks into a Summary Workbook in Excel

Looks like it's possible.

Also I would look at the DATA Tab under DATA TOOLS - CONSOLIDATE.

I do not know what I did. When I opened a message it open it "Message"; now it opens in "File". How can I get it back to open in "Message"?

A:Outlook 2016 - Message opens in "File", not "Message"

If you minimized the Ribbon, this caused it. Open a message and maximize the ribbon.

XP Home (installed SP2 recently, which MIGHT have something to do with this?).

Just saved two word docs and a bmp file, all separately. All three times I saw that a new location has been added to the Save As drop-down menu. It didn't open to My Documents folder but was in the general folder list of the whole computer. The location was called "FTP File Locations." It's never appeared on the Save As menu before. This made me think of the file/print sharing control, which is now located in the Windows Firewall, but I don't use that Firewall, I turned it off to use Norton. What was FTP Locations? And is there any way to disable file/print sharing without using the Windows Firewall? (These may be the same thing, I don't know.) Also, in Network Connections, I thought I'd find file/print sharing control there, but now XP wants me to run a whole Network Wizard thing..I'm afraid I'll somehow set up a network instead! or enable all kinds of things..I don't want to create a disaster here.

(My son installed an FTP program months ago for work he was doing, but the program was removed. I just searched for it, it's definitely gone.)

This is a stand-alone, non-networked home computer.

P.S. I saved another Word doc and now it's back to opening to My Documents folder as usual..now I can't find the FTP Locations anywhere.

Hello everyone
Recently, I'm playing Anno 1404 (also called Dawn of Discovery) in my Vista Home Basic 32bit finely until I saw the problem with the "save/load" problem. First, it saves "systematically" but, the save is corrupted to a 5kb file. Second, the game can't load the 'properlly saved' save file, and also the corrupted one also.

Few of the players had the similar problem, and someone said that making another user account works, and I tried and really worked for me. Yes, I can play this way, but all of my files and infos are saved in the Administrator account, and I don't want to switch users just to play that game

Recently I found a useful MS program, which is runas, and found how to run as another account. It asks for the account pw, and everythis was fine, but it doesn't run my game
It just closes the cmd and nothing happens. What could be this problem?
I hope Ubi gives out this fixing patch fast

A:Anno 1404 "save/load" problem and using "runas.exe"

Figured it out with Runasspc program (which also saves the password! )

In any application under Win XP, when I use a Save As or Open dialog box, and click the down arrow next to the location box to search for the folder I want, the application never responds. Usually, I have to click the arrow a couple of times and then it sort of wakes up and responds, or the application crashes (the title bar of the dialog box will say "Not Responding".

Often, in the case of the Save As dialog, it won't say Save As in the upper left corner, only an "S" will appear there.

Seems like a memory issue or else something corrupt in the system. Before I shell out $35 to MS to have them fix something that shouldn't be broken, can anyone help???

I just got a new Hewlett Packard computer with Windows XP. The CD drive is a combo CD reader, writer and DVD. The main reason I need it is to backup my many documents, database programs (RootsMagic family history, Quicken, etc.), photographs and drawings. The pre-installed burning program on the computer is Adaptec's (I think) Sonic RecordNow!, which is useless for my needs because of the way it works. The HP tech suggested I download DLA to enable me to use "drag & drop" through Windows Explorer, but I haven't had much luck with that, either. What I need is to be able to use a CD-RW as a giant floppy - to add, delete, copy, edit and move files, just as I do on my regular floppies, using "drag & drop" through Windows Explorer, or "save as...". What software do I need for this? Please use "baby-talk" with me, because I don't understand any of the initials, terms and technical language I see all over these forums. Thanks, Dellasha

A:Data backup and storage to CD-RW's using "Drag & Drop" or "Save as..."

The most versatile program for that is "Nero"
The latest version Nero6 Reloaded is a bit bloated, maybe the NeroMIX will do better for you. Read the specs here: www.nero.com

The part that interests you specifically is InCD.

Hi all
Previously the  "Save Picture"  box would put a web generated title in the box and automatically selected JPEG.  Now the title box reads "untitled" and the only file options offered are "png" & "bmp"

Please note that a similar post has appeared, but the solution did not match the fault.  I'm seeking to restore the automatic response to save picture, that might have been upset by antivirus clean-up programme.

Thank youin advance for considering my problem

Good day everyone,
I'm looking for an alternative solution for the following code:

Code:

Option Explicit
Public BooleanForClosing As Boolean
Private Sub Workbook_BeforeClose(Cancel As Boolean)
If BooleanForClosing = False Then
MsgBox "Please using exit button"
Cancel = True
End If
End Sub

I use an Addin to control a series of files. The simple reason is that I do not want to add any vba code to these files and therefore do not want to add the above code in the Thisworkbook,

I have a working code to disable the 'X' to close Excel but am stuck with the individual workbooks, I want the user to always choose the 'Clos Active Workbook' button on my ribbon.

Any suggestions? Ideas?

Thanks.

After privacy protection installed itself I no longer have a desktop. The task bar is still on the screen as well as the start menu. But when I click on the start menu there is nothing on it. The only programs that are running are " privacy protection", "windows security center", and "XP anti-virus 2012". All three of these are running completely by themselves and I never installed or downloaded any of them. I cannot get on the internet or do anything with my computer. I know that privacy protection and XP anti-virus 2012 are fake virus protection but when my computer was still somewhat functional, these programs did not allow me to run anything which made it hard to fight it off. I have some really important stuff on my computer and I would hate to lose it all.
