Yoga 500 not charging - Not the 95% issue

Q: Yoga 500 not charging - Not the 95% issue

Hello, My yoga 500 is not charging. It didn't power up, so I changed the AC charger wich didn't solve the issue, then the battery and it started again. With the new battery and the new charger it still doesn't charge. I opened it, unplugged, cleaned and replugged everything, still no charging / power. Am I missing something ? Could it be a motherboard issue ? It was running perfectly fine while the new battery had power. Thank you

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I have a Yoga 500 that is having a problem charging the battery.   When it's plugged into the charger, it cycles between charging and not charging about every second.  I've tried two different chargers and it does the exact same thing.  It's like a loose connection type of symptom. Any ideas on what to try? Thanks for the look!  Dave

Hello - Have a Yoga 3 Pro that has suddenly decided not to charge. Has been working fine until recently... life of charged battery has been normal and the charging time has been normal as well. I swapped out chargers, and the new one did not work, so I'm assuming it is an issue with the connector on the laptop body. When I push the power button, the orange light blinks three times and nothing else happens. Is there any way to get this to charge, even if temporarily? Thanks in advance.

We own a Lenovo Yoga 910 and in the last couple days, it is no longer able to charge.  The battery is currently at 13%.  The following 4 situations happen when the power cable (lenovo 45w usb c that came with the laptop) is plugged into the laptop.1) The laptop does not recgonize that the power cable is plugged in at all. 2) In rapid succession, the laptop acts as if the cable is being plugged in and unplugged over and over. The power cable icon will display for about a second, then dissapear, then display, then dissapear, etc.  It will even change the brightness of the screee as it attempts to switch power modes from battery to power.  The only way to stop this behavior is to unplug the cord completely. 3) The laptop shows that the power cord is plugged in, but states that the battery is currently discharging.4) The laptop shows that the power cord is plugged in, says its charging, but the battery continues to drain even though it says it is charging. Windows 10 is fully up to date.  We have run all Lenovo software updates so all Lenovo software is up to date.  The BIOS is also up to date (the June '17 BIOS).  There have been no recent new software installations or physical impacts / changes to the laptop. I have purchaced a 3rd party charger that matches the specs of the Lenovo charger and the same 4 situations happen.  I have confirmed that the charger works to charge other devices. This leads me to believe the is... Read more

So I have a Lenovo Yoga 720 that is about 2 months old which was originallly not charging when plugged in (it said it was plugged in and discharging) and it was associated with phantom taps/clicks of the touch screen all over the place. I resorted to replugging in the charger and restarting the machine to see if it would fix it and sure enough it fixed the phantom touch screen tap issue but the charging issue kind of remains. When it is plugged in the battery monitor in Windows 10 says that it is at 11 percent currently but then when I take the charger out the percentage jumps higher and says that it is at 13 percent. And the same thing happens over and over again as a repeated process. Any idea what could be the issue and what steps can be taken to fix this??

Hi. I recently bought a Lenovo Yoga 500 laptop, and I'm quite disappointed. When I plug in my charger, 9/10 times it starts to charge, then immediately stop charging, then charge again for a second. This results in never charging. Eventually it charges normally, but it's completely random and sometimes requires 5+ restarts. I need this laptop for school so taking it off for repair is hard for me but I will do it if there is no other way. I got a second charger from a friend and this still occurs, so the problem isn't with the charger. Anyone have any idea for a fix? Thanks

Hello I bought new battery for my laptop 4530s. In HP support assistant I ran HP battery check test and the results showed my battery was not discharging even when it is fully discharged to 0 percent and I was running my laptop with AC adapter. Plus it didn't show that it was charging either. The AC adapter is not charging the battery and the laptop works fine when only connected with AC adapter. I tried hard resetting and under the device manager Microsoft ACPI reinstall method but it didn't work and still I am unable to charge the battery. I read on some forums and also tried to update my BIOS, but surprisingly during the BIOS update through USB and only AC adapter plugged in, on the BIOS update page it was written to connect external power eventhough only source that was connected was AC adapter. The problem is with my AC adapter or BIOS or charging circuitory please guide? An early response in this regard will be highly treasured.

What does it mean when the charger indicator is solid white? What is the best way to maintain battery life?

A:Charging X1 Yoga gen 3

Solid white means fully charged or nearly so.  There is no "best" strategy.  It depends on how often and how long you use it when it is plugged in.  I use mine mostly on battery and I plug it in at night to charge.  I have it set in Vantage to start charging at 70% and stop at 98%.

Once the battery was empty and the laptop went out I plugged it in again and it went up to 33%, but now it stopped charging again. The laptop used to be a showcased model but was reset to factory settings and the battery is in almost perfect shape. Is there a way to fix this issue?

Sometimes but not allways it will hung in between balance mode and power saving mode. Earlier today, my Yoga 3 Pro decided to stop charging.  When plugged in, the battery continues to drain as if it was not plugged in.  I have tested the A/C adapter by plugging in my phone with a micro USB and that worked fine, and the USB charging slot works when my wireless mouse is plugged into it, so I assume it must be the strange Y3P USB cable that is not working.   Would a normal USB to USB cable work for charging my laptop?  If not, how do I replace that "kink" USB cable?  I haven't seen any for sale anywhere and I'd rather not have to pay $40 for a whole new charger on the Lenovo site if the cable is the only issue.

A:Yoga 3 Pro Not Charging

Hello and welcome,

The Y3P and its charger need that special cable.  The charger and laptop have an extra set of pins in the USB sockets that pass 20V to charge the laptop.  A standard USB cable doesn't support those extra contacts.  The charger also provides 5V on the standart USB pins.

Your test of the charger with a your phone shows that the 5V portion of the charger is working but doesn't verify the 20V portion.  It's possible that the charger is bad.

When you plug the laptop and charger together does the battery icon indicate that AC power is attached?  You could have a bad charger, a bad cable, a bad laptop connector (or other component) or the battery management software could be messed up.

Sorry I don't have an easy test or fix.  It may be necessary to actually swap the cable and charger to diagnose this one.

[edit] The Y3P is a fairly new machine.  If this is under warranty, support should be able to help you:  1-877-4-Lenovo, 1-877-453-6686

I have a brand new Yoga 730 whose battery seems to have a serious problem. I can't get past 33% battery capacity and the system tray icon informs me that the unit is "plugged in, not charging." The 33% does not appear accurate, either, given that the unit goes dark as soon as I disconnect the power supply. I have uninstalled both of Device Manager's battery entries, allowing them to reinstall upon system restart, to no avail. It does not appear as if this battery is replaceable by mere mortals, so I don't think I am able to muck around with physical connections. All thoughts welcome...  Rick A.Pleasanton CA

A:Yoga 2 Pro Battery not charging

I've experienced this a couple times on my new Yoga 2 as well. The first instance, it just started charging again after about an hour of use. The second time, I rebooted after about an hour of it being plugged in and not charging, and once I reached the desktop, the battery showed 43%, but still not charging.. So i guess it was actually charging the whole time without showing it?After about 2 days of ownership, I've decided to do a clean install of windows 8.1 followed by loading all the necessary drivers listed on lenovo's product page, and I can happily say this 0% plugged in not charging thing hasn't happened again.

Hi all. I've snooped around the first and second pages of google on how to fix my problem (see title), but I'm not technologically saavy and don't really understand what might happen to my computer. So anyways. The 'deets. I've been using my 920 for about 7 months now as a school computer, haven't had any major mishaps with it. I keep it clean both physically and virtually. Just 2 hours ago, my charger stopped working: the charging light is on, the usb-c cable works on other electronics, and the computer displays "Plugged In, Not Charging." I've tested with other cables on this computer and receive the same message. If anyone has some tips, and could explain how and why they work in layman terms that would be extremely helpful! Thanks!-A Noob

What is the charge level?  If its like 96% for example it wont charge until it hits 95% to preserve the battery.  Also check Lenovo Vantage.  Do you have conservation mode turned on?  Those would be my first 2 things to check.

I have a Yoga 370 plugged into a ThinkPad USB-C Dock (DK1633) with the provided USB-C cable, and Windows is showing "Plugged in" but also "Not charging" as the battery has continued to decline in this configuration (it's declined from ~60% when it was first docked, and is now at 29%.) What's this mean, and how do I correct it? More detail: The USB-C cable is plugged into the port next to the power on the dock (the only place it fits.)The dock is powered, as evidenced by the power light being on.The USB-C cable is plugged into the Yoga at the "lightning" port (again, the only place it fits.)I've tried the most obvious googleable steps, which are to remove the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" in Device Manager and re-add/update. This didn't change the behavior.I should add that I first noticed this problem only a couple weeks ago. Before that I believe the dock was charging the laptop as expected, in the same configuraton it's in now.I have not yet tried charging with the power cable that comes with the Yoga (instead of the dock/USB-C) since this problem started happening. I don't have the cable handy, and won't for a few days.

Hello, I have bought 910 and reinstall with fresh 1803. I have upgrade bios to latest and installed all drivers from support page.using OEM charger and using proper port for charging (rear). Also device is ok with charger because i can charge tablet when it is turn off. Even in bios it is charging, so i know that there are problem with drivers in windows.Scenario is like this: 1. If i boot with charger pluged in i have exclamation mark in device manager (I2C HID Device) - last picIt says that is is charging but after minute of charging battery indicator stops, (still says charging - but it does not). 2 nd picAfter removing charger and plugin again says only plugged in NOT CHARGING. 1st pic.   2. If i plug in charger after boot i have: no exclamation mark in device managerrest is same as above example. I tried all drivers (which are kind very OLD) , tried Lenovo Vintage (ussless), tried drivers from 920 .. same. Three times i have reinstalled windows even with generic microsoft drivers, it does NOT CHARGE. Also there is annoying screen flickering which i sloved by manually add driver from 920. (not completly still shows sometimes.) will try linux and if that will not work, i am going to return this expensive toy. Funny that i wanted to buy X1 Carbon soon... lol guessing that problem is in Windows changing from ver to ver. and Lenovo, who does not update neither drivers or bios. Sad....
