IE 11 - Intranet sites added to list do not stay

Q: IE 11 - Intranet sites added to list do not stay

I have, what seems to me, a strange problem. The company I work for uses sharepoint for our intranet sites (no, this is not a sharepoint question) and we have recently upgraded to a new version. When we upgraded, the site now needs to be added to the local
intranet site list in order for it to automatically receive windows log in credentials and log users in to SharePoint. This is a simple fix, I have done it on dozens of machines, but on a select few the fix doesn't seem to work. Whenever I add a website to
the intranet sites list, it acts as if it was added... then as soon as I close the dialog box that is used to enter and display this info, it's gone, and by gone I mean I open back up the box and it has disappeared from the list. There is no trace of me ever
having changed a setting. There are currently no GPOs active that would cause these to be taken out of the list, I have tried adding the sites directly into the registry and they disappear there too, I'm not sure if this is the right place for my question
but I figure it's a start. So again:
Problem: Sites do not stay in proper security zone, all traces of them existing are erased on closing of dialog box.

Troubleshooting Done so Far: Tried directly placing in registry, no fix. No GPO's are active to remove said sites from zones.

Preferred Solution: IE 11 - Intranet sites added to list do not stay

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: IE 11 - Intranet sites added to list do not stay

"but on a select few the fix doesn't seem to work"
Confused with this sentence, does this issue only occur in a specific PC\user account?
Have you tried the suggestion mentioned in the your original thread to reset IE, test the result?
What about other security zones, like Internet or trusted zone? Are there any other websites under the Intranet zone? Though you mentioned that these's no GPO applied to control this, I still recommend you run cmd rsop to check the settings applied
on this machine and user account.

A (hopefully) easy question. Running IE 8 on Windows XP (SP-3) All updates are installed and security used is Avast Anti-Virus 6 (Free Version) and Malware Bytes Anti-Malware (Free Version.)

It seems that when I add a website to Compatibility View by going into Compatibility View Settings, once I delete the browser history, I am losing the sites in the Compatibility View List that I recently added. I just noticed this today. What do I need to have checked or unchecked to retain my recent sites added to the Compatability List when Clearing IE History?

A:IE 8 Not Holding Added Compatibility List Sites When History is Cleared

The workaround is to go under Compatibility View Settings and UNCHECK the Clear History Box. Other sites that I had added to the list stayed, but recent sites added to the list will only stay in the list if the Clear History box is NOT checked. Don't know why IE 8 would behave this way, but it does. IE 8's "remembrance settings" for compatibility view, should not have anything to do with browser history.

We are testing Windows 10 1703 prior to rolling it out to our estate and have come across an issue with Internet Explorer Site Zoning and just wondering if anyone else has seen the issue.
So on Windows 7, 8.1 and Windows 10, 1511 and 1607 using IE11. We have a SharePoint intranet site setup on intranet.example.co.uk. We use a proxy so we have a list of sites that by pass the proxy so for example we have *.example.co.uk in the bypass
proxy exceptions. On the above clients OS we browse to the site in IE and it loads, checking the zone it has picked it up as 'Local Intranet' so seems to use the 'Automatic logon on in Intranet Zone' setting. - all good.
Just for clarity these settings are same in IE on all versions. as are the default security options.

When we do the same thing on Windows 10 1703 it results in the user being prompted for credentials. the same proxy exceptions settings are applied as above. Entering the username/password allows access to the site. Checking the zone and the site is
being seen as an 'internet site'. This issue also appears in Chrome and Edge and only on Windows 10 1703
Adding intranet.example.co.uk to the bypass list makes no difference either, the only thing that does work is by adding intranet.example.co.uk into the Local Intranet Zone sites list - again all other settings are the same as above and work on
previous versions of Windows.
So the question is has Microsoft changed something in IE o... Read more

I can not consistently load pages using IE8 on my local intranet. I never receive a "page not found" error. You just get a "wait for..." message in the progress bar and nothing ever happens.

This only affects my PC. All other PCs in the network load the pages without issue.

I do develop web applications on this PC, so not sure it software or settings on my PC are preventing a consistent load.

IBM Thinkpad T22 Laptop
Windows 2000 Professional

A user at our company connects to an internal intranet website. The web server is located in the US (we are in the UK) and so its a bit slow but ok.

When he gets to a certain site he clicks a link that should open an Excel document. He clicks the link and his pc appears to freeze up. I checked task manager and IE is still running, cpu usage is around 3%. If you wait for 8 minutes (timed it a few times) the document opens up fine.

I logged the user off and logged on as myself. I accessed the link and the document opend up with 10 seconds!

Things I have tried:

1. Ran an IE browser repair.
2. Rebuilt the users Windows 2000 Profile.
3. Deleted Temp Internet Files including Index.dat
4. Detect and Reapir in Excel (just in case!)

Its not a major problem but the document should open up in about 10-15 seconds instead of 8 minutes.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

Is there Registry key to uncheck Display intranet sites in Compatibility View from Internet Explorer ?

Hi, i am looking for a policy that will allow me to uncheck 'display intranet sites in compatibility view' without graying out the option to recheck it if a user needs the option in the future. So far the only option i found under Computer
Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Internet Explorer/Compatibility View/Turn on Internet Explorer Standards Mode for Local Intranet would gray out the option to recheck the box.

We have an odd issue. IE11 is running all sites in compatibility mode. This appears to be because it is treating all sites as being in the Intranet Zone. This is:
a) breaks many websites that require modern browsers
b) is a huge security issue as many protections are disabled by default on the intranet zone.

Has anyone else seen this or have ideas on what we can do to solve it.

I will add that we have autodetect proxy settings enabled, and wpad hosts a proxy.pac that instructs browsers to go direct to all websites.

I setup a GPO that uses a global sites list for enterprise mode for our domain.  The first time we all launched IE it went and got the list and everything looks good.  Since then I've added 3 extra sites to the enterprise sites list, but none of
the clients seem like they are re-checking the list to see if its been updated because the new sites I added aren't showing up in enterprise mode, only the original ones I first added.  If I open the sites list it shows the xml version is still 1 but
the rules version is 4.  I read online the browser doesn't check for a new sites list until 65 seconds after its been open, but its been like 7 hours and it still hasn't updated.  Anything I could check?  Thanks
I checked the registry entry for the enterprise mode and it shows the correct version number as 4.  I cleared my temporary internet files and it finally went out and got a new one.  But I don't want my users to have to clear their cache any time
the site list is updated.  Anyone know a solution to this?

I notice it when messages I post to e-mail lists don't show up - then I find them in my deleted mail. Any ideas why this keeps happening? Do spammers send e-mails that look like they're from me so if I block them it also blocks me? What to do?

I've assumed that recently opened files were automatically added to the jump lists on the Start Menu. That's because that's the way Windows 7 has always behaved for me on multiple machines.

I did a clean install of 7 on my laptop and now some files are automatically added to the jump list and some are not. For instance, all Notepad and Word files I open appear on the jump list.

Some Excel files I open do appear on the Excel jump list and some do not. It happens that the Excel files that are not added are opened from my Dropbox folder (but I do not know if the issue happens ONLY from the Dropbox folder).

However, files of other types (Word, Notepad) that I open from the Dropbox folder do get added to their respective applications' jump lists.

So, how do I get any file I open to be automatically added to the jump list?

I would like to find out if a site can automatically be added to the list in Compatibility View Settings.
A having issues with a certain site and see it's listed under Compatibility View Settings, once they remove it, the site shows up as fine.
As far as i know, only way to add something there is to manually added or via registry. Barring this, is there any other way this site could have come up in there?

Hope I read the rules right and chose the right forum. I apologize if I didn't. Sorry, also, for the length. It's complicated and I've never seen an issue like this before.
I thought it would be best to post the question first: Can I create a clean registry, reinstall the good programs, and delete the old registry, rather than search for and delete questionable entries one at a time? I'm afraid reformatting won't destroy the issues, and will make it that much harder to detect them. I don't know if his current business/personal financial files are infected because none of the anti-virus programs detected anything {Housecall, ESET NOD32, Rootkit Buster, RUBotted, Farbar, HiJack This--Spybot reinstall is the only thing I see in startup}, so that's another reason I'm not sure I can just start over and put his data back. I checked his services and msconfig--nothing, other than SpyBot.
The problem: I've been trying to help an 80-year-old friend-of-a-friend with computer issues. He's running a desktop PC.with Windows 7 that he purchased from a friend. The owner has given the friend regular access to it in his home for the friend's continued use under the guise that the friend knows how to keep it in working order. It appears that the so-called "friend" has been visiting hundreds of porn, casino, and other very questionable websites.

A:"Friend" added questionable sites to Windows 7 Registry

Hi Semi-NoviceCan I create a clean registry, reinstall the good programs, and delete the old registry, rather than search for and delete questionable entries one at a time?To be blunt, no it isn't possible. The Registry is way too big and complex for that. There's no way to "create" a clean Registry (how would you go about it? A lot of entries and values are system, time, etc. specific so it'll never work). Also, how would you delete the old Registry when Windows is in ue? At worse, you'll make your system crash so bad, only a clean reinstallation will be able to repair it.I'm afraid reformatting won't destroy the issues, and will make it that much harder to detect them. Why do you think that? Unless the MBR and/or BIOS are infected, and/or another peripheral that is infected is being connected to the system, formatting the drive and reinstalling Windows on it will get rid of all the malware and system issues currently present. This is assuming as well there's not multiple drives on the system and the malware/virus is lying in a drive other than the C: (Windows) one.If you want, before you go with the format and reinstall route, I can help you clean that system. Follow the instructions below please.MiniToolBoxDownload MiniToolBox and move the file to your Desktop;Right-click on MiniToolBox.exe and select Run as Administrator (for Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 users);Check the following options:Flush DNS;Report IE Proxy Settings;Reset IE Proxy Settings;Report FF Proxy Setting... I am using ASP.NET and MVC3 for developing a website. I am trying to dynamically pull HTML from the web server and add the HTML to existing DOM elements on a already loaded page. However, after I add the dynamic content, the javascripts addressing the dynamic content does not work. (Example: The dynamic content has a dropdown. The event handler javascripts for the dropdown do not get executed).

However, when I add "about:blank" to the Trusted Sites security zone, I do not face this problem.

I observed this problem in IE9 (not sure if this happens in IE7 or 8). Other browsers (Firefox, Chrome) do not give me such issues.

I am not sure what is going wrong in IE9. Any pointers towards resolving this?

Hey there everybody!

My name is Chris Dechene, I'm in Kitchener, Ontario. I'm a college student and I'm having a huge problem.

For the past few weeks I've been having issues logging on to sites and/or staying logged on.

Examples: There is on online school project that requires us to play a business strategy game for a large chunk of our grade. I should be able to log on to my account for it at home, but everytime i log in, it sends me back to the log in page, but from what the rest of the page shows, nothing changed. It's as if it refresh itself halfway through the process

Also, I can log on to myspace, youtube and other similar sites, but everytime I try and change something, i get kicked out and have to sign back in to find it do the same thing

I've already cleared my cache, temporary internet files, run a disk cleanup, lowered my security and privacy settings to medium, but no luck. I ran PC Pit Optimize and PC Doctor 5, but they show nothing wrong, or change little to nothing. I uninstalled and reinstalled my firewall (Zone Alarm Pro), but no change.

Please tell me what is wrong, I really really really need to fix this before I get too far into the semester

A:Can't log on to sites or stay in!!?!?!?!

It almost sounds like file phishing...Well the myspace part at least. Try logging in on another computer, a library computer, and see if you have the same problem. If you do, then you need to contact the professor, the school, or someone that would know about this program. If it Doesn't work, then it seems like you have some sort of spy ware/virus problem.

For example,
this article specifically references a Windows 10 version, where
this one references Windows 7 and 8.  Finding the Windows 10 version has proven impossible so far.
We have several sites which need to be opened in IE instead of Edge, and using our old Enterprise Mode site list is not working on our Windows 10 clients.
Current site list example:

I'm trying to run KM Player in portable mode (no install) in Vista x64 and save preferences in KMPCfg.ini. Just extracting the KMP installer files to a folder allows it to play files just fine, if open them from KMP UI.

I want to open files from Explorer folders, by R clicking & selecting "Open With." Without installing KMP, of course it's not on the list of programs. NOR will it PUT KMP on the list if I browse to it's folder & the .exe file (even if check, "Always use this program to open this kind of file." I suppose the reason KMP doesn't show up in the "Open With" list (and won't let me add it) is because necessary registry entries weren't created by installing it.

Same thing happened when I tried associating a file type w/ KMP (like .wmv), through Control Panel. It wouldn't change the association when I browsed to the executable.

I used the utility OpenWithAdd utility to supposedly register KMP to show up in the Open With list. http://windowsxp.mvps.org/openwithadd.htm
It actually added a KMP registry entry for .WMV files in
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-350893743-1272961675-1415102724-1006\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.wmv\OpenWithProgids\\KMPlayer.wmv. It looks exactly like the other media player entries under this key.
But, I guess it still doesn't show up on the Open With list because there aren't any other registry entries w/ KMP'... Read more

A:Can portable program (not installed) be added to "Open With" list in Explorer

Well, no gurus? Maybe can add a portable app to "open with" context (dunno), but you can add it to the "Send To" context, then use that when R click files in explorer.

Copy or drag icon you want to the user's Send To folder under the user's acct. It'll be there when you want to send select files to the app.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this question, but as its related to IE I am putting this here
What difference does it make whether or not a website is added to the trusted Sites list. The reason I ask is some of the icons on a website do not show up when not in the trusted sites list and I cannot figure out which setting I can change to make this
work without adding this to the trusted sites list.

Internet Explorer has a way to import files listing names of sites to block, and then IE will act accordingly. Does Firefox have the same capability? I'd rather not have to type in or visit to get the proper address of sites that are harmful. Thanks.

Oh, here's the thread from this forum on which I'm basing this question. Look for what is said about ZonedOut.

Is the Internet Explorer list of restricted sites the same one I am using to place the IP numbers and/or URLs of unwanted sites in? The place I use in my IE.6.0 / SP2 browser can he found at; Tools -> Internet Options -> Privacy -> Sites.

In there it says, "Per site privacy actions. You can specify which websites are always or never allowed to use cookies, regardless of their privacy policy".

I believe the sites I enter here are unable to use ActiveX or Javascript or anything else in my computer, yet I am still able to view those sites. Correct? But other, friendly sites are still able to interact normally with me? And this is my "List of restricted sites?

Just purchased a new Dell 4700 desktop. SOftware was previously installed. When accessing Window Media Player, a Security Message pops up and reads "The current web page is trying to open a site in your Trusted Site list. Do you want to allow this?
Current Site: go.microsoft.com
Trusted Site: wwwp.musicmatch.com.

Regardless of the answer I select (yes or no), this message appears every time and it is getting annoying. How do I fix this problem?

A:Trusted Sites List

Copy your link (http://wwwp.musicmatch.com/) into the buffer.

Go to "Start > Settings > Control Panel > Internet Options > Security > Trusted Sites > Sites". Paste your link in the upper window and click "add".

It may "choke" on your link because it wants a secure connection. Add an "s" to the "https:...". Maybe that will work. Maybe that is why it hasn't been working in the past.

If there is already a similar link in there, delete it.

See if that helps.

Has anyone compiled a list of software download sites that do not employ foistware/adware installers? Or perhaps a list of sites that do this, so that they can be avoided? If so, I'd like to see either such list. If not, I would like to begin compiling a 'safe' list (and/or an 'avoid' list), and ask for suggestions to include on either. Thanks!

A:Software download sites list

Excellent suggestion.

One to avoid like the plague has to be CNet. I'm not sure I've ever been able to do a straightforward download on it. There are download buttons everywhere and they seem to have no relation to the file you are after.

I downloaded CCleaner yesterday from FileHippo and that went smoothly. On installation the offer of something else came up, probably AVG and a toolbar but it was easy to decline. No sneaky stuff.

I don't see any way. I've always hit the bottom one on the list, and then hit the dropdown again.

Just an idea that I had...

Let's make a list of popular websites that try to be sneaky and download spyware/malware to your computer, just to help those newbies who are trying to figure out where they got their problems from, they can check this list and see if they've visited any of these sites with Internet Explorer. Doesn't mean that they HAD TO HAVE gotten the scumware from, but just a possible source.

I'll start.

I setup a GPO that uses a global sites list for enterprise mode for our domain.  The first time we all launched IE it went and got the list and everything looks good.  Since then I've added 3 extra sites to the enterprise sites list, but none
of the clients seem like they are re-checking the list to see if its been updated because the new sites I added aren't showing up in enterprise mode, only the original ones I first added.  If I open the sites list it shows the xml version is still 1 but
the rules version is 4.  I read online the browser doesn't check for a new sites list until 65 seconds after its been open, but its been like 7 hours and it still hasn't updated.  Anything I could check?  Thanks

Trying to open an intranet site with IE 7 and getting this message:

Content from the website listed below is being blocked by the Internet Explorer "http://"

Why is it trying to add a blank site when the site obviously is not blank?

If I try to add to the allowed list it doesn't let me.

Is there a way around this??

In the older version sof Windows it was always easy (well, sorta) to clear the Restricted Sites List in Security; you just clicked on the first site on the list and held down return. With Vista, if you try to do this it just puts you back to the Internet Options tab page. Vista seems to be set up so that you have to click on EACH restricted site and delete it individually...which is flipping outrageous! There are hundreds of these pesky sites and, as an adult with a modicum of tech knowledge I feel that I should be the one to choose which sites are on any 'list' of restricted sites. Me!

I worked out how to turn off the damned UAC early on, but Vista still infuriates with its ridiculous security nannying.

Any help would be very much appreciated.
