Q: Dell Inspiron 15 3552 headset port does not work properly HELP

Hello,
Just ordered and started to use my Dell Inspiron 15 3552 laptop. I realized that something is wrong with the headset port. I have tried to use my earphones and then headphones which the laptop has recognized immediately as a new device connected to it, but the music sound was still coming out from the laptop and did not switch to the earphones / headphones. (Note: I plugged in them properly.)
Please help me what I need to do in this case. I want to use earphones / headphones to listen to music and play videos. I don't want others hear what I am watching / listening.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello. Test the audio driver by switching between the Realtek driver and the Windows native audio driver.1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked [but SEE NOTE].7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, sometimes you have to restart, sometimes not.[To get back to the Realtek driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]NOTE: if you have a 2-in-1 model and do not see a "High Definition Audio" option after step 6, then uncheck "Show compatible hardware". Then in step 7, if you see 2 "High Definition Audio" devices, select the 2nd one. On some models it is called Intel High definition Audio. If you only have the symptoms with one of the drivers, then the other is at fault. If you have the same symptoms with both audio drivers, then it is very probably not a driver issue.

Two weeks ago I bought a Dell Inspiron 3552 (Service Tag<ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy>) with Ubuntu 14.04 SP1. It was a gift for my mother. She was not comfortable with using Ubuntu so I installed Windows 7 Professional (x64). The problems started immediately. Network controllers drivers were missing, universal serial bus (usb) controller were missing. I tried to install all drivers recommended by Dell Product Support but they there not right for me. For example: wireless card is DW 1801 Card 802.11gbn + BT 4.0, yet the Dell Support suggests drivers for 1707 which fails to install. I found the drivers for 1801 and was able to install them, but so far these things are not working on the laptop:
Universal serial bus (usb) controllerWebcamI suspect it is because I am still missing some drivers, probably motherboard or chipset. Could you provide me the links to them?

A:Dell Inspiron 15 3552 - missing drivers

Hello,
Here is a link to the driver download page for the Inspiron 3552.  it defaulted to Windows 7 64-bit for me but make sure it does the same for you.   Here is a link to the Intel Chipset Driver that goes with the Inspiron 3552 and Windows.  I think that is the driver most likely causing the problems you're seeing.
Here is a link showing which drivers to install and in which order.  Check that article out and see if it helps. Not sure why the support pages / utilities are suggesting the wrong drivers but you may want to simply install them manually, in the order that article recommends.
For the Dell Webcam Central software, because it's licensed you actually have to log into your Dell.com account to access / download it.  Here is a support article on the Dell Webcam Central software application that explains the entire process.
Let me know if this helps.

Hi kojo_asante,
Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.
Please run the diagnostics, to initiate power on the system while holding down the Fn key. Let us know, if your able to go to the BIOS screen and which version of BIOS you have installed on the system. Check if the system keeps restarting when it is in the BIOS screen. Remove the hard drive and check the status and then try with the memory modules to see, if there is any changes.
Kindly get back with the status after trying the above steps.

I have a Dell Inspiron 3552 and I have noticed that when I wake it up from sleep, it's a little laggy. What I mean by laggy is that when I go to the login screen to put in my password, sometimes it doesn't always respond. I have to turn Num Lock on and off. When it does finally respond, the sticky keys window pops up asking me if I want to use them. Then, it finally starts to put in my code. I am running Windows 10 Home 64-bit on this machine.

So, just under a year ago I had bought a Dell Inspiron 15-3552 laptop and it has mostly been a reliable and durable computer. However, I've had an issue with the charger (or charger jack) twice now. The first time was pretty straightforward. It was an issue with the jack (had to plug the charger in at a certain position, computer lagged with it in, "plugged in, not charging", etc.) and I got it repaired relatively quickly. But this time around, I had an identical problem (except now the charger has stopped working entirely) but the place that I usually go to for this kinda stuff was persistent about this being a charger issue. So like anyone would, I went to best buy and bought a charger. Despite the fact that the moron said that it would work with my computer, it didn't (and the dude didn't even allow me to return it). After that whole thing, I decided that I'd just look on the dell website for a compatible charger. However, as shown by this ( image.prntscr.com/image/2ab2913161c0448b9d186f2a33b61243.png ), there was no option for an Inspiron 15 3552, leaving me very confused.TLDR, I need two answers.1) Is this an issue with the charger itself, or the charger jack?2) If it's the former, is there any way I can get a list of chargers compatible with this computer?

My laptop is experiencing 2 issues:
1. The battery is not charging, I've diagnosed this with help from Dell support, that the AC cable that plugs directly into the port is damaged and a replacement has been ordered, i list the issue in the event that it holds relevance or possible to cause to the second issue.
2. The battery is shown as disconnected, strange as i can have my laptop on as long as it has the charger plugged into it feeding at power, although it still will not charge. The Battery indicator light on the external bottom left part of the laptop, left from the touch pad, blinks orange then white, shuts off, and then repeats the cycle. Also a notification window pops up on screen stating: " Your battery is temporarily disabled. Please turn off your computer and try again when the unit is back to operational temperature, although the laptop is not hot, only mildly warm, seemingly standard operating temperature.
Im not sure if the first issue has relevance to the second, i would think it does but I'm not certain. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated, Thank you.

I purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 3000 Series notebook. The model is a 3552. Crucial says the max ram supported is 4GB. Mine comes with 4GB of RAM already out of the box. It has a 64-bit OS of Windows 10 and has the Pentium processor. If I upgrade the RAM to 8GB, will it mess it up? My Toshiba supports 8GB of RAM and it has a weaker processor than the Dell. I don't understand why I can't upgrade the RAM on this computer to 8GB. It makes no sense.

Dell Inspiron 3552
BIOS updated to 4.0.11

I replaced HDD with SSD (Plextor PX-128M6Pro, newest firmware 1.05)

PROBLEM:
Sometimes laptop boots without any problems, sometimes SSD is not detected and BIOS shows error: Hard Drive not installed

I checked SSD with other computer and works fine. I checked SATA connector and it is ok. I put back factory HDD and it works fine (but i want SSD).

Dell Diagnostics tells nothing:
- when SSD is detected: "All test passed"
- when SSD is not detected: "Hard drive not installed. Do you want to continue?"

Question:
Is there any solution to this problem or will this laptop work properly with other ssd (Crucial for example)?

Probably a similar problem is described here:

Hi thereI have a Dell Inspiron 15 3552. The laptop came with Linux but I recently used a windows license I have to install Windows 10 Pro x64. Everything works fine except one thing:The brightness buttons do not seem to work. I checked in power settings where there is a slider for brightness and the bar alters the brightness when I drag it with the mouse. Also in Windows Mobility Center, there is a similar bar that can change brightness with the mouse successfully. I tried booting to BIOS (F2) and the brightness keys there seems to work so the problem seems to be only in Windows.Windows 10 found all the drivers for the laptop but I installed the display driver that I found using the Service Tag. I didn't install anything else.I also tried uninstalling the intel drivers and use the default Microsoft ones, but the buttons were 'dead' again.
To install windows I changed Boot Option to Legacy (From UEFI) and disabled Fast Boot.. All other Fn keys (like audio for example) seem to work.I would like to have the keys working since this is an important feature for a laptop. Thanks in advance.
PS. I also found this driver in intel page that ends with the same 4-digit version as the one downloaded from dell, but all other numbers are different. Not sure if it is the same or not to give it a try.

My headset is a RIG515HD. It has 2 separate ear cups with wires that lead into one male jack. You plug that into a female jack that leads to a USB. The issue is that my computer will only accept it as headphones or a microphone at a time, it wont accept it as both at the same time. When it detects as headphones, it knows it also supposed to be a microphone in "recording devices", but it just doesn't work.

I've tried buying an XY splitter plus female-male jack extension cord to skip a USB and turn it into a headphone cord and microphone cord. The problem there is that only the headphones work then.

Is this a known problem with microphone headsets on the Optiplex 780 or is it something wrong with my computer?

I recently bought an Inspiron i7559 and everything is great except the computer only has one jack for audio, which turned out to be a combination of a mic and audio jack in one. So I bought a splitter for the mic and audio jacks in order to plug them both in at the same time and although I am getting audio through the headphones, the microphone is not being picked up. I've tried this with regular Iphone headphones with mics as well as the Headphones+mic that come with the Xbox One.
Has anybody else had this problem? The internal mic works just fine but I really want to be able to talk on a mic that doesn't pick up background noise. Thanks!

A:Headset mic not working with Dell Inspiron i7559

When Dell first started using the combo jacks we got reports from people who had good luck with the splitters, but over time I think the majority of the reports have been about failures with them. I would try a usb jack like this.

Hello to all,

Now When I put the XP CD on the CD driver, it says press a ker to boot from CD and I press the Enter key, (now the keyboard works) after that, within installation time when that I should press Enter to install XP, this time the keyboard doesn't work. My guess is that the ps/2 port of the case has problem (it's old and somewhat has been broad). Now what is the solution in your point of view please?

My system manufacturer is "ECS" and the system model is "945pl-A".

PS: there are two black & white screens which mobo shows: First screen shows the amount of RAM, the model of CPU the IDEs and info like these which is common for first screen. But the here when I want to enter to BIOS by pressing Del key, it seems that keyboard doesn't work so it doesn't go to bios. The second black & white screen shows fewer info and it says "Press shift-F10 to configure) and when I press these two I can to enter to an environment that seems to not be the BIOS, the keyboard here WORKS!!! It has very few options! And apparently doesn't have options of manipulating the keyboard settings.

My 3552 has significant performance problems.

When the system is plugged in, it says "AC power wattage and type cannot be determined. Battery may not charge. System will adjust the performance to match the power available. Please connect a Dell 45W AC adapter or greater for the best system performance
Then it will move to a black screen.
I unplug and plug back in again and I get the homescreen.
After 15 minutes plus of booting back up, system performance will be extremely slow. Hard to type or call up any application

As a separate symptom, when I power up with the battery in, a message displays:
When I have the battery in, I get a message, "Your battery is temporarily disabled. Please turn off computer and try again when the unit back to operational temperature."

A:Inspiron 15 3552

A double failure of the battery and AC adapter is statistically improbable -- however, the most likely suspect is also the most expensive one to replace -- the mainboard.  You might try bringing the system to a repair shop (or even Best Buy) to see if another Dell adapter solves at least that part of the issue.  If it doesn't, it's likely a bad mainboard.

Hi,
I have bought for my wife a new Inspiron 15 3552. I want to swap the standard drive with a SDD which I have. Normally you can just open the back and replace the drive. This Dell has however not a piece of plastic that covers let's say half of the back, there is just one piece of plastic covering the whole back.
When I download the service manual which my service tag points to, I get a manual where I can see that you can remove the lower plastic part and see drive and memory. As I already mentioned this model has just not this piece of plastic you can remove. It seems you must somehow remove the whole back.
Is there a service manual which describes this (newer?) model?

Thanks
JH

A:Inspiron 15 3552

Looks like all fourteen  screws around the perimeter of the base have to come out  in order to remove the base cover.  Recent systems I've seen have different-length screws in different places, so be sure you label the screws as you remove them.

I have the same problem as given in the following post.

As per the above post my laptop is concluded to be in an 'ambiguous' condition. LOL,
Exactly 4 days before my warranty period could end, I got this error in my PC. because of my exams I could not call dell support immediately. This problem is one of the unique one that I have ever discovered online. One fine day I started my laptop to watch a movie and found that there is a cross mark near the sound notification showing that no sound devices are detected. I tried with the earphone but even that did not respond. I was pretty much confused what to do. Is that what the dell gives us as my fate- a problem which does not has any solution and I have to roam around everywhere to fix this up. I still don't recognize what mistake have I done from my side that I am suffering this.
As per the dell customer care's  suggestion I have tried installing the latest bios update, followed by all the system updates once again. But the sound/audiojack/recording device still are not detected. I will give you a brief of all what has already been tested.
1. The ePSA Pre-boot test has run and there were no problems detected.2. In the above test quick audio check was performed and it sounded those 8 beeps in different directions properly, proving there's no fault in hardware.3. A:No audio on my new Inspiron 3000 3552

samboc I don't particularly want to send it back to Dell and wait for a replacement.
Hello. I know what you mean. The difficulty is that it is either a hardware or a software issue. If it is a hardware issue you will eventually have to let Dell fix it unless you don't mind not having audio. You can send it back any time before the warranty expires. But if it is a software issue, the warranty will not cover it, so you can't wait longer than the brief return period before returning it.
I would contact tech support and see what they have to say. In the meantime you could run some tests.
First, switch between the Realtek audio driver (that was pre-installed on the laptop) and the Windows native audio driver.
1. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. 1. Sometimes when I pressed the power button system won't start. Black screen comes then it won't boot
2. Sometimes when I pressed the power button system will boot up to password screen, if I entered the password and hit the enter key, again Black screen comes.
3. Sometimes shutdown is not possible.
      a. I tried to shutdown by using mouse (Start -> Power Options -> Shut down) it won't take the command
       b. I tried to shutdown by using keyboard (Pressing Alt+F4) it won't take the command itself

Please post a solution for this.

A:Dell Inspiron 15 3000 sometimes won't start-up properly

Run the Diagnostics to test the hardware and contact Dell Support in your country if it shows hardware problems.
Alt+F4 is just to close windows, not shutdown. To shutdown, right click on the Start Button and choose the last item in the list-- Shutdown or Sign Off. It might be off your screen so scroll down the list. Do NOT select Power Options.

I cannot really give you a lot of specs & details on it, as I'm really inept about computers.

Basically it starts ok to begin with, fans working and you can tell it's working. Then it gets to the vista style welcome screen with the word 'welcome' and a small blue circle to show its loading.

Then a very alarming sort of ticking sound starts in the lower left side of the keyboard, below the fan?, and thats as far as it will go or a blue screen will appear telling me they've encountered an error and will restart my computer. Only when it restarts to get the same result.

I have the OS on a disk if I need to re-install it, and a friend who is of reasonable talent with computers (But away on holiday)

As I'm said I'm very sorry I cannot give you any more information as I'm not well gifted with computers (I'm an aspiring EMT if that helps any :S). I was on MSN when it froze, I left it for ages and then held in the power button to restart. Then na-dah.

A:Dell Inspiron 1525 will not start properly

Well, you're getting past the POST test where the BIOS checks for hardware errors. The ticking noise could be a few things, really. It could be a hard drive failure, where you have a hard drive that works to boot but can't read much farther. You could have bad RAM but I'm not sure it would account for the noise. It's also possible you just have some corrupted system files.

The easiest way to do this is to try Safe Mode. On your next reboot, tap F8 several times until you get a list of start up options. Select Safe Mode and tell us if it loads this time. We'll go from there...

One week ago, I purchased a new Dell Inspiron 3552 with Windows 10. It worked well for the first day. The next morning, however, I turned it on (it had been shut down), and the screen crashed after a minute or two. By "crash" I mean that it visibly glitched for a split second, then froze completely (but with seemingly no effect on other functions). I shut it down and turned it back on; the same thing happened a minute later. After a couple more restarts, I got it working fine until the next restart.
For the next few days, the same issue occurred whenever it shut down or restarted, and again corrected itself (seemingly) after several manual restarts. Anytime from 10 seconds to five minutes after startup (with the exception of one time when it made it to fifteen to twenty minutes), the screen would freeze. If it worked, it worked, and if it didn't, it didn't.
Two days ago, however, the same series of crashes began occurring after the computer had sat idle for too long (i.e., overnight). The number of restarts required to get it working again has also slowly increased. The best thing for it now, it seems, is to get it working and use it at least every couple hours.
So on to the point: Is there anything I can do about this, is this a consequence of my own misuse, or is this an issue that would require a professional to correct?

Yesterday I shut down  WIn 10 on my inspiron 3552 like usual, today after work I switched it on and it shows me 'hard drive not installed' it run diagnostics automatically. I read lot of posts, I reset the Bios settings but still  Bios  shows there is no hard drive, I remove the hard drive disconnect and reconnect to the connector but still  it shows me hard drive not installed, but if I connect hard drive to my sata to usb adaptor  I see the hard drive  is working properly. it appears and shows files connected to my other laptop via usb adaptor. May it be the sata connector fail?
The  funny thing is my warranty expired on 17 th of January just 9 days ago.

It could be;  the way to check is to attach another drive.

I been having problems with my headphone jack since I got my new laptop. My laptop has been refusing to recognize my headphones. I plug them in, the sound keeps coming directly from the computer. I check the playback devices, headphones are not even on there. I've read quite a few posts and tried to fix this issue. The only thing that seemed to work was manually updating my drivers with device manager. However, if I shut my computer, or unplug my headphones and then put them back, the issue arises again.
Obviously the issue is not my headphones, they work just fine for the period of time that the issue is fixed. I've update everything that I know to update. If anyone has any other suggestions then I will gladly try them.
I'm not sure if this is important or not, but I am using Windows 10.

Hi. I'm a first-time user and happy to have found your website!

My operating system is Windows 7. I am using a wireless Logitech Mouse (uses USB hardware). I have had this laptop for 5+ years.

PROBLEMS:
1. The touchpad will not ?turn off.? Under "Mouse" on the Control Panel, functions for the Dell Touchpad should allow me to simply turn the touchpad on and off. Regardless whether it is in the on or off position, it is still on.
2. Even when I don?t touch the touchpad, the cursor skips around the screen, highlights text and deletes text. Typed text re-locates within earlier typed text.
3. There is an on/off light at the top of the touchpad that indicates the touchpad is on/off. This is not working.
4. Also this panel item allows me to manage sensitivity, buttons, gestures & edge scroll & zoom. I can work these, but the Edge Scroll & Zoom buttons do not see to change the settings.

WHAT I HAVE DONE TO ATTEMPT RESOLUTION:
1. I have checked the drivers for both the touchpad and mouse and I get messages that they are each up to date
2. Because the touchpad will not turn off, I have tried to manage the buttons to turn down the sensitivity, to minimize movement of text. This does not help.
3. Turning on ?Disable Touchpad & Point Stick when USB Mouse present? does not disable the touchpad.

I got this new Dell Inspiron 7568 about a week ago. Since I got it the up and left keys have not worked together. They work individually but not together. This does is not isolated to my computer, the display computer at Best Buy also had this issue. This is a big problem because I need those keys in order to test my programs. I have looked in many places some say it is a problem with the bios other say with the drives and others say with the hardware.
I have already tried calling technical support and they could not do anything about it. This is not the first post regarding this problem: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19679981 (slightly different model). My last computer was also a Dell Inspiron but an older model and it did not have this problem.
I have been I loyal Dell costumer for a long time please help.

I upgraded my dell inspiron 11 3148 hdd to an ssd. This laptop has 2 usb ports on its left and 1 on the right. So i am assuming the single port on the right is USB 3.0. Point to be noted is that the hdd caddy is right beside the usb 3.0 port. All was fine when the hard drive was being used.
The day i upgraded to the ssd, the usb 3.0 port has stopped reading anything, it shows Code 43 in the device manager. Now I've tried all possible software solutions avaliable on the internet for fixing a code 43 like bios reinstall etc. I've even done a clean reinstallatin of the OS again but to no avail. When i insert any usb device, it just makes the connected sound, but gives the error ' usb not recognised' and a code 43 in device manager with statements: 'Device Descriptor Request Failed', 'Port Reset Failed' .
Now i read that code 43 also happens because of some power issue. So now i am inclined towards thinking that the ssd is taking more power from the motherboard than the hdd. What do you think is it this or something else?
Please give me your advice. Thanks!

Hello there, I own a Dell inspiron 6000 (August 2005 purchase) and recently I noticed that my headphone/external speaker port does not work anymore. Yes, I did the basics such as checking if my sound is muted or not. Oddly enough, my default laptop speakers work fully (built-in sound card) but, my headphones do not when I plug them in (and when I plug them in or external speakers my default laptop speakers can't be heard at all). Can you suggest what may be the problem here and how to fix it? If you look at the two attachments at the bottom, you will see one that has my dxdiag general computer information and the other screenshot is a dxdiag of my soundcard information (note: "Test DirectSound" failed).
Sincerely,
RedGrant
