Preferred Solution: Lots of pop ups. Freezing computer. Loss of wireless

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

It appears that you have two antivirus programs installed and running, AVG and McAfee. While this may seem like better protection, they can actually conflict with one another and cause system instability or even system hangs. Please choose one to keep and uninstall the other via Add or Remove Programs in your Control Panel.

I suggest you uninstall McAfee. If you do uninstall McAfee, please do the following:

Please download the McAfee VirusScan Removal Tool VSCleanupTool.exe and Save it to your Desktop.Close all programs and double-click VSCleanupTool.exe then click Run
Follow the on-screen instructions.
Restart the computer if asked.
Then delete VSCleanupTool.exe from your desktop.

Please note that these fixes are not instantaneous. Most infections require more than one round to properly eradicate.

Please stay with me until given the 'all clear' even if symptoms seemingly abate.

Kindly follow my instructions and please do no fixing on your own or running of scanners unless requested by a helper.

I own a relatively old and increasingly problematic computer. My most recent problems involve a complete and unchangeable dead-freeze and a spontaneous, unrecoverable loss of internet. Both of these problems are remedied by nothing other than a hard shutdown of my computer and a restart. After the reboot, the problems are fixed as though nothing happened, but they reoccur very reliably. Pretty much just as quickly and to the same degree as the problems were the first time. I'm at a loss of what to do. I've heard proposals regarding getting a good network card to hopefully help out my internet loss problems... but I have no real clue...

I've been through hell trying to get my computer to stop freezing. My computer is custom built (three years old) and it never had any freezing problems until about half a year ago. This is what I've done to try and cure the problem.

- Uninstalled IE and replaced it with Mozilla FireFox (this seemed to help a bit because Mozilla isn't using nearly as much memory to run the browser)

- Bought RegCure and regularly use it

- De-fragmented my C: drive

- Uninstalled any unnecessary programs and applications

- Recently updated my video drivers

This is the deal. When idle, my computer never freezes. I can leave it on all night/day, whatever and it won't freeze. It seems to lock up when I'm actually using the computer, mainly when I'm browsing on the internet or using media devices. For example, sometimes I'll download a video to watch or tamper with iTunes and the computer will randomly just lock up and I'll have to restart. Sometimes it will lock up constantly after restarting, then other times I can go hours without any problems. Now what else can I do!? Please help! My Hijack logs never get any responses, so is there anything I can do? Thank you.

Man, I hope someone can help me. I have a Vaio system that I installed a 20 gig drive to handle the OS and am using the 80 gig it came with for storage and additional programs.

Something has happened recently which causes my system to freeze up almost entirely. It happens primarily when I have a video window open (WMP or Giga Pocket, etc). My mouse pointer moves all over, but I cannot click any buttons, even on the task manager.

I finally decided to just reinstall my Windows XP Home edition again, so I tracked down all my pictures, videos, music, and other important documents and backups and transferred them to my external 160 gig drive.

I put in the recovery disk I made when I originally got the machine, rebooted, and followed the directions. It told me it was going to reset the partitions and programs to factory new, and split the c drive into a 15 and 5 gig. I said, fine, go ahead.

It finishes it's job a lot faster than the last time, but instead of having a fresh, empty machine, I know have the exact same one only with the c drive partitioned into a 15 gig like it said. The problem is that the 5 gig portion is missing, as is 155 gigs of my external.

My external, which used to be drive K is now drive J and only has 5 gigs allotted to it. Normally this would not be a problem as I still have access to all the files I backed up from before, but I now stand to lose the 54 gigs of data I had already saved to it.

Can anyone tell me what happened and what, if anything... Read more

Hi All,

I was working on my laptop last night (HP G-70), using both the internet and Photoshop. All of a sudden my mouse movements became very jerky and I lost my internet connection.
Now when entering the network centre my laptop does not pick up any wireless networks even though it says that the WLAN is on. Also every couple of minutes I will have the stuttering that will affect whatever I am doing e.g. video playback or again mouse movement.
I have restored my computer back a couple of days but this has not resolved the problem. I haven't yet had a chance to run a full virus scan, although usually my Sophos is pretty quick off the mark to pick up any threats to my computers safety.
Also when trying to diagnose and repair the connection it tells me there could be a problem with my network adaptor, although im not sure how this would cause the stuttering.

Any help would be much appreciated

Cheers

Kevin

A:Loss of Wireless Internet and Computer Stuttering

"it tells me there could be a problem with my network adaptor, although im not sure how this would cause the stuttering."

The stuttering problem & loss of WiFi are not necessarily connected. Regarding your WiFi problem, look in Device Manager and see if it shows an error for the wireless network adapter. It may just need it's driver re-installing to fix that.

Hi everyone,

Please bear with me as I am trying to learn more about technology, so apologies if I dont explain myself as well as I could!
I am having lots of problems with my laptop at the moment and have tried as much as I know how to fix it but Im not getting anywhere..problems include

Cant open internet options. In control panel it only displays the icon, not the words underneath. If i click the eggtimer flashes for a split second but then nothing happens

Cant open Mozilla Firefox

Cant cut and paste

I can get online with IE8, however it has no tools, history, favourites etc. Some pages only display partially, mainly text missing. google shows as a completely blank browser page but if I search using the bar at the top of the browser a search results page then comes up.

Any text on a webpage that doesnt display can be seen if I highlight it. As I run the cursor over the words they show up. Numbers do not show up, and any dropdown boxes with numbers in just show as blank.

And the most annoying thing is I cant download anything! So cant dl things that may sort the problem.

I have run AVG and Malwarebytes and a few things have come up so I have removed them but none of the problems are solved. I have since updated and ran then both lots and lots in vain hope. Also tried that in safe mode. Tried system restores, also tried Highjackthis via a complicated 2nd laptop and memory stick combination but that didnt show anything. I hear that thats not so great... A belated welcome to TSF StandByYourVan,

Not sure if you are describing malware issues, or problems when there is something amiss with the user account settings that load during startup. Or a bit of both perhaps. But we really will need to get some diagnostic scan info posted here, so I can assess what the best repair steps might be. If you still need assistance with this, see if you can download, transfer over and run the scans shown here. Then post those logs.

OK. I bought a 1.5 GB drive to store back up system images and large media files (DVD rips and such). When I got it, I decided, for whatever reason, to split it up into 4 equal sized partitions (350GB), let's say F:, G:, H:, I:. Before loading Windows 7 on my main system drive, I decided to clone an image of my old XP system on F:, so F: is now bootable. I don't ever use XP any more, really at all, but it was nice to have a bootable drive when my system drive developed a bad boot sector. So F: has 331 GB of free space. G: has a half dozen backup images created by Windows 7, and has 110 GB free. H: and I: are exclusively for large media files (well, I am using H: also for 7MC's live TV buffer), and they have 10-50GB free.

Now, with libraries and Media Browser, it doesn't really matter that my media files are on two separate partitions, because through 7MC it appears that they are all together, which is great. But if I want to move something from H: to I:, it takes much longer than simply transferring from another drive, and I have a bunch of free space on the bootable partition. So ideally, I'd like to make F: much smaller, and reclaim that free space for other partitions. I mean, I could live with one partition for everything, but it may be nice to keep the bootable partition seperate, then have all the media and system backups together with the rest of the space.

Is this doable? I cannot backup this drive currently, so I don't want to do anything that is risky and could l... Read more

i have hp au003tx laptop.it freezes randomly .my all drivers are updated ,i reinstall my window but still this problem is happening.SYMPTOM 1: It freezes solid sporadically. Sometimes multiple times/day, sometimes every few days. Seems to be no set timing to it. And when it freezes, it really freezes: the screen remains fixed, no mouse movement, ctl-alt-del does nothing. Only holding the power button down for 5 seconds powers it off.SYMPTOM 2: It takes a very long time starting up. The event log shows that some services are failing to start. I don't remember which ones but I think it's related to wireless. Eventually, it comes up and things work, but it's slow for quite awhile (10 minutes or more). These symptoms do not occur in succession. They typically occur at times unrelated to each other.IMPORTANT: As far as I remember this happens ONLY when I use the wireless connection to the network. When I use wired connection I always turn off wireless. And for the last few months I've use mostly wired connection and the problem has NEVER occurred. Today, I'm connecting wirelessly, and it freezes solid.I am concluding that the problem is somehow related to the wireless functionality but I have no idea how, nor what to do about it.Based on web searching I have found no conclusive reasons for this behaviour, although some point to a heat problem. Most simply say "I'll never buy Acer again" which doesn't help much, of course :-). Perhaps the use of wireless increases heat and causes th... Read more

Hey guys,

We recently installed a wireless router in the house since we were having some issues with out wired connection. Everything was working fine for the most part - 2 laptops and a PS3 were using the network. One laptop began having the connection cut in and out, so we took it in, and they changed the IP address from static to dynamic which solved the issue.

Since then, my laptop has been freezing/hanging constantly after 5-10 minutes of booting. When I load up, it automatically begins searching for the wireless network, and I've tried disabling it to see if it makes a difference, but to no avail.

As far as I've noticed, it only happens when I use (primarily) Firefox (and occassionally) IE. When using a browser, I'm able to (sometimes) open up multiple tabs on Firefox when working, and other times, I cannot load the homepage. The system freezes, with nothing happening other than me being able to move the cursor. After clicking close, or waiting for the application to unfreeze, I sometimes get a loud, blaring tone from the computer, which often results in me manually shutting down by holding the power button. I find that sometimes when I minimize a window, the effect freezes in the taskbar, leading to the system freeze. The loading time to boot up the laptop is also drastically slower than it was prior to installing the router. In terms of the freeze, when it happens, the 'loading' icon that usually flashes when the system is working, clicks a... Read more

Hi.. I have had this problem for about a week now....
I have a sony vaio windows 7 IE 8 Laptop that I love and it is only a year old.
in the past 5 days the cursor on my logitech wireless mouse freezes. The only way to get out of it is ctrl. alt. del and it goes to my home screen and I cancel and the cursor comes back.. sometimes I go for hours and it doesnt
freeze and then sometimes it freezes every 5 minutes. there are times when I ctl. alt delete and it goes to my screen and I have to manually shutdown as even if I touch the pad on my laptop I cannot close it.. and of course when the cursor freezes
the screen freezes too.

Just to let you know that there is nothing wrong with my battery or mouse
as I have another one just like it and it does the same thing

I contacted Sony Vaio and they came in by remote and put in a patch
and said that should do the trick. but it did not...

any ideas....

do you need more info and if so what else would help in this situation.

I also play some games and that is when I most get this. and I have
the flash 102..... the latest version. and my java is uptodate.

I should also say that at times my IE8 says not responding.....

thanx Coco.

p.s.I have a friend who is very computer savy and comes in by remote
to fix things on my computer and this is stumping even him..

I custom built my computer and I am having problems with intermittent freezing. I had to replace my last wireless adapter because the connection was very slow (only sometimes). The mouse, video, sound and everything freezes and the sound puts out a weird "morphed" sound. To alleviate this problem I have to move the mouse down to the wireless icon in the right area of the task bar, click on it, and then click on the wireless connection. Then it will be fine.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1521, and use a Verizon Wireless Pantech UM175 to connect to the internet. For my work, I use Cisco VPN to access my work websites. I get connected to the network, and within minutes my computer locks up. It takes a hard reboot to get it unfrozen. When I am at home, I login using my wireless network (not the Verizon device) and I can stay connected to the Cisco VPN tunnel for hours. I am using Vista 32bit operating system. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

A:Verizon Wireless Broadband and Cisco VPN keep freezing computer

I have been doing a little reading on your router and most of what I see is that people are makeing sure to update any drivers/firmware on it. I would also switch to a different channel either the lowest or the highest setting. You may be getting interference. Reset your network adapter white you are there and get a new IP assigned from Verizon. If you are only getting issues with your VPN then talk with your IT department and give them your new router/IP settings and see if they can take care of it.

During the past week i had about 5 episodes of my computer freezing but i saw no real problem until yesterday when the computer freezing problem got worse, much WORSE by
freezing up within 15 seconds of Windows opening. The computer froze in safe mode too. When i tried running CHECKDISK/REPAIR, my computer froze. I tried many times to boot into WIndows but the freezing problem continued. I decided to do a REFORMAT...1 hour later i boot into WIndows and the freezing problems continued. I did another REFORMAT and still the freezing continued.

I started to panic and started wildly trying all things.

I pulled out up the USB cord with the WIRELESS CARD adaptor, rebooted and WOW! the freezing problem was not happening. I plugged the USB cord into my computer and FREEZE. I tried 5 times booting up and as soon as the USB cord was plugged in,the FREEZE. I have been using this same USB adaptor was 2 years,so i assumed it was broke. I bought a new USB WIRELESS adaptor, the freezing problems came back.

I found myself wondering what to do next,i did reformats and i did reformats. Then i started experimenting and took out the internal... Read more

Symptoms:
1) Computer freezes randomly. Sometimes during start-up. Sometimes after I've been using it for 3+ hours. There doesn't seem to be a common software application or hardware that causes it. Cursor/pointer simply stops and computer becomes unresponsive. Can't even get the Caps Lock key light to go on/off.
This has been an issue for about 3 weeks.

Troubleshooting to date:
Unplugged all USB devices.
Ran AntiVirus and Spyware removal programs.
Tried swapping mice and keyboards.
Checked CPU temp and it is nominal.

2) Then to make matters worse, it stopped connecting to my home network yesterday, making it impossible to connect to the internet, other machines or even use my printer. FYI my ethernet port is integrated into my mobo.
All the other machines on the network are connecting fine.

Troubleshooting:
Swapped ethernet cords and ports.
Tried installing new network drivers.

I'm guessing that my motherboard is getting glitchy, but am hoping for some more profound advice. Frankly, I'm pretty clueless. Thanks.

Hi everyone,

I'm running a custom built PC with Windows XP Home SP2, AMD Sempron Processor 3300+ 2GHz, 10/08/2005-SiS-760-6A7I7FKAC-00 Motherboard (according to aida32), 512MB RAM. Often, when I play an audio or video file, it plays perfectly well for a while (ranging from a few seconds to several minutes) and then audio is completely lost (also youtube videos only will play for 2 seconds after this happens). At first I thought that maybe it was a software problem, but it still occurs with each multimedia application I have. The sound returns on a reboot, but the problem still occurs all the time. Any ideas about how to solve this?

Also, on a slightly unrelated note, the pc also sometimes freezes; usually when several applications are running, bit it has been known to happen when barely anything is open. Strangely, the cursor will not move, but remains on screen for a few seconds and then disappears completely. Is this due to a lack of RAM, or is there another way to solve this?

I hope I have provided enough information.

Thanks in advance,

Mizutakahiiro

I tend to think that there may be some incompatible hardware on your system because of the random errors that are being generated. Your drivers appear updated and there don't appear to be any known incompatible programs installed.

Try some of the suggestions seen in this topic: http://www.eightforums.com/crashes-d...her-posts.html

Hi
For the last few weeks, everytime I turn on my computer, about 10 error messages come up. It's the same error message that looks like this:
*If you want to read what the error message says, click the photo and then click the expand button in the bottom right corner to read it*

I would click "close" and the message would keep popping up but then disappear after a while.
My computer has also been acting very slow while on the internet, sometimes it would freeze and I wouldn't be able to click anything. While it freezes, it would make this beeping noise repeatedly until it unfreezes too.

Is my computer infected with a virus? What does the error message mean? How can I solve these problems and what do you think all of this is caused from?

Thanks!

I have big folders of bookmarks with folders with bookmarks in them. Every time I go to delete a folder with around 600 bookmarks in it, my browser freezes. (Mainly firefox but I think other browsers freeze too) I know the common sense would be to go bookmark by bookmark etc but that would literally take me a year. Is there any way to get around this problem at all?

Thank you!

A:Browsers keep freezing deleting lots of bookmarks

I don't know in what version this was introduced, but if you go to Organize Bookmarks in the Bookmarks menu you can open the folders and multi select with the Control or Shift keys. If you selected 10 at a time it'll go faster than if you did it one by one, but should be less likely to freeze.

USB loss - Sporadic USB connectivity loss. Sometimes it comes back after a minute or two, sometimes it does not. Affects all USB ports: mouse, keyboard and tried phone charger for Iphone in from ports to no avail as well. Thought it was power loss and just bought a new power supply, that was not it. Let me just explain the situation here a little bit

Ever since Saturday morning, my computer has been acting real funny. If I was to move my mouse from the left side of the screen to the right, then about every two seconds, the cursor hangs and the comp freezes, and then picks up again. If there's any audio or video playing, then about every two seconds it freezes and picks back up again. When I start up XP on the windows loading screen, it used to take about 20 seconds top until the login screen appeared, now it takes about 3-4 minutes. I tried to access safe mode, and that took a few tries, when the computer finaly didn't freeze, safe mode was just as slow, but the hanging problem wasn't there

The online scan can't be completed cause it freezes my computer about 5 minutes into it (The bottom bar stops responding, the one with all my open windows) and I have to alt + tab between windows, but those are mostly not responding anways ^_^

The only thing that I can thing of is that I was downloading a movie called "The Island" friday night and when I tried watchin it saturday...well lets just say that it certainly wasn't the movie that had Obi-Wan (Ewan Mcgreggor) in it, and I believe that may have been the cause of my problem, that the .avi download had some kind of virus on it

I have 4 desktop Lenovo ThinkCentre MT-M 7033-A2U (M91p) machines in my office. We purchased them refurbished about 1 year ago. Recently, all 4 machines are experiencing sudden freezing. Monitor remains on, mouse and keyboard input is ignored (cursor remains frozen in position). The only way to recover is to hard reset, at which point the machine operates normally. There are no warning signs leading up to the freeze. It seems to occur when there is a sudden increase in activity (opening a large Excel workbook, running a large report, etc.). It is intermittent - it can be 1-30 days between occurrences. All users with this model have experienced it at least once, and have lost work as a result. Event viewer reports a Critical event in which the device loses power at the same time as the freeze ("Kernel-Power: The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first.") A second Error event is created upon hard reset ("EventLog: The previous system shutdownn was unexpected.") Perhaps the hard drive is losing power when the electrical draw increases? Perhaps a flaw in motherboard power flow?Would replacing the hard drives with Solid State Drives correct this, as they draw less power? Replacing the hard drive would certainly be more affordable than replacing the entire machine.

I used a M91p for business for years without issue.  I'm pretty sure the HDD is powered directly from the power supply, so a flaw in the motherboard would not be possible.  Perhaps if you provided details of the OS, BIOS version, details of any graphics cards, or devices installed or attached, memory size and apps you're using, we could help you more.

I am having a problem with the media center on a Windows 7 Ultimate on a Gateway MX6920, I experienced two crashes and then freezing and studdering + buzzing during video + photo playback, during one of those freezes, I open up my web browser to google the freezing issue (never got to), and AS SOON AS I opened my web browser and it tries to load a page, the internet drops to a yellow triangle (no internet). the result of the troubleshooter is "The Default Gateway is not available". I have had issues before with AS SOON AS I open a web browser the internet drops. Google doesn't like that search though. I Googled it plenty of times. But I am sure that the media center is part of the cause on this one.

Please help me

A:Media Center freezing/open web browser/loss of internet

Open Event Viewer, expand the Windows Logs section and select the Application subsection. Right-click it and select Save all logs as... Name it Application Logs and save it on the Desktop. Do the same for the System subsection and save it as System Logs. Select both files and zip them in a compressed folder (right-click them, select Send to... and select compressed folder. Attach the compressed folder in your next reply so we can have a look at your event logs.

While you are at it, let's see the output of IPCONFIG while your internet is working and while it isn't. Open CMD as administrator (search for CMD in start menu, right click it and select run as administrator). Inside CMD, type the code below:

Code:
ipconfig /all >0 & notepad 0
A notepad window will open with the output of that command. Select all of the text and paste it in your next reply. Run the CMD command twice, one for when the internet connection is dropped and one for when it's working. We therefore expect two ipconfig outputs.

Its a neighbor of mine I help them take care of their computer all the time.

The problem is the screen freezing randomly, it might be in 3 min might be 5 or 10 or 25, it does it after it has been turned off for awhile or all night or when you have been on it for awhile or quite awhile. Point being its not heating up cause it does it when it has been off for hours them 3 or 4 min after it is turned on or sometime it might be 2 hours after you turn it on. I had a thread a couple of weeks ago about this same computer I came to the conclusion that it was the Powersupply, so I put in a brand new 400W powersupply and it ran great (no freeze ups for a few days then all of a sudden it started in again).

The mouse freezes so they can't do anything but shut it down at the tower so I gave them another usb mouse tonight and told them when it freezes to unplug there mouse and put the new usb mouse in and see it it works right away then it would be the mouse. I have great doubts about it being that but I am at witts end. I consider myself pretty good at fixing computers hardware and software problems but I am lost. I have no idea. I looked in the divice manager everything is ok, checked the events and nothing happening there. I know the computer is clean of viruses or spyware cause I keep it clean for them monthly.

A:Solved: Windows XP SP2- Screen freezing-no pattern- but lots- Can someone help? Pleas

The first thing that comes to mind with older machines is overheating. They can accumulate a lot of dust (even in the cleanest places) and fans can get bogged down. Check all your air intakes and remove dust from the interior. Make sure that all fans are moving (including the one on the graphics card, if present).

While inside, check all your connectiuons and make sure the graphics card is firmly in its slot.

If that doesn't help, try a memory test:

MemScope (Floppy and CD images.)
Microsoft Memory Test (floppy or CD ISO image)
Memtest86

If you have enough memory sticks, you can test them by removing one at a time and see if the problem disappears.

If you are running Vista and can boot up, go to Start > Search and type:

mdsched.exe

Choose to run a memory diagnostic on next boot. Or, you can boot from the DVD and run it from there.

Hey guys,
My BT Voyager 2091 Wireless ADSL router is no longer functioning wirelessly. Had it over a year, used on my laptop countless times.
I CAN still access the internet via the ethernet cable however.
Checked it is the router by using another wireless receiver (PSP). Can't even find the network, let alone connect.
This has not happened before.
According to the Config Manager the wireless is up and working. The status lights on the front of the router say the same thing.

Bah... i'm guessing it is a case of returning it to our service provider, but it's the holidays and no doubt it wouldn't be exchanged for ages.
Any help is therefore muchly appreciated!

A:BT Voyager2091 wireless loss

Have you checked it with more than one computer? Can the computer that you're trying to connect see any other wireless networks? Have you tried resetting the router to factory defaults and reconfiguring it?

Download and run this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector and post a screenshot of the main page here.

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

I'm hoping someone cam help. I have an acer aspire 5738z laptop with windows 7. I hadan issue with the screen sent it off for repair and it has come back and the wireless Internet won't work. I've tried everything, the wireless will be either very poor and then turn off or just doesnt work at all.

When I try and connect to talktalk my Internet provider it says, windows was unable to connect, it has mentioned the wireless adaptor .

I'm hoping someone can help!

There is a possibility that when the screen was repaired, the tech didn't reconnect the antenna connection lead to the antenna. When removing the screen, this connector must be unplugged.

Does your laptop connect wirelessly when it is just a few feet from your router/access point? If it is the antenna issue I suspect, it will lose signal as soon as you move it further from the router.

If you feel brave enough you can remove the bezel around the screen & see if the antenna is connected. It will be a very small two-wire plug.

I was able connect to my dlinl dgl4500, prior to having some java issues. I fixed the java problem, but now i am only able to connect via cat5 cable. The system can not connect to the router, & can't find the problem. I am at wits end, regarding this problem.

Probably a wifi driver. type device manager in search. go to the networking tab. see if your wifi is listed. does it have a yellow triangle on it? are there any other "unknown" devices with yello0w on them?

Hello, I got the 100-15IBD Laptop (ideapad), I sometimes lose the wireless connection (the yellow warning appears) but after 30 sec. approximately the connection is established again. This happens everyday staying next to the router.  Thanks in advance.

Connection loss, perhaps. I don't really know what to make of it.

I'm on a wireless network when I come home from college, so I've only been using it for about 3 weeks now. My trouble is this:

I had a D-link wireless card (PCI, generic PC setup) from which the antenna had broken off, so I got a pretty poor signal, but it worked fine. For christmas I asked for a new card, I ended up with a Linksys WMP54G, a pretty straightforward wireless-g card. I installed the new card, decided to use the windows networking setup as opposed to the linksys wireless setup because i'm used to it, rebooted, and it worked fine.

Now i have an "excellent" signal, but I'll have times where the connection will just cut out for a few seconds every couple minutes.

I haven't really experienced this before and it seems somewhat odd for hardware to be this inconsistant.

Thanks for any help in advance.

I have a home wireless network that has been running with WEP for 3 years. (2 desktops +1 notebook). After buying an ACER aspire one (Windows XP OS), I was unable to get the new computer onto the network even though it will link with unsecure wireless networks and by wired LAN to the modem. Does not seem to hold the WEP encoding data (128bit). And this afternoon, one of the desktops (which worked fine yesterday), now also cannot link to the network. Suggestions appreciated. (Drivers and BIOS for all computers and LinkSYS network cards) are current.

Hi again...

I've suddenly 'lost' the wireless network on my pc, can't figure out why.
I'm using a Belkin adsl router and installed a network card a while ago as I was having problems using an adaptor ..... also, I re-installed XP just under 2 weeks ago due to other problems.....everything has been working just fine, no problems, then the other day I left the pc running while I was doing something and when I came back to it the wireless connection was gone! ....all I get now is a message saying no wireless networks can be found in range.... I had two that were, mine and a neighbours, both now gone.
The router seems ok, I can connect via ethernet, all the lights are on (that should be and are steady. The network cards light is on and blinking, as it always has.... I've tried re-setting the router .... uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, removing connections and making new ones .... I thought maybe the card was faulty so tried to connect using another adaptor, but with the same result.... no wireless network in range... am at a loss as what to do next.

Any ideas please.......

Hi,

I get no internet access (no WLAN light) on my DLINK router, after I accidentally pulled the plug on the Cable modem. (It worked fine before that.) I fixed it on another occasion a few weeks ago after a power outage, but I haven't a clue how - just toil and sweat. I've heard there's an order or procedure to connect and reset the modem and router. I've tried several combinations, but none work. I get internet access when I take the router out of the equation, but that won't help the laptops in the other rooms.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,

Irwin

Can you check your device manager - Network adapter, expand the + sign and see if the wireless adapter is present or disabled? Do you have any wireless toggle button for the laptop?
