Hotkey not working after updates

Q: Hotkey not working after updates

Hi there

I'm a user of Gadwin Printscreen which I have been using for years, I have been using it all week normally i just start the program, hit PrtScn key and it brings up a dialogue allowing me to take snapshots but this time it didn't.

I have tried installing a later version the hotkey does not work on this either, so I put on an earlier image (made last week) I had and the hotkey worked fine, ran windows update, and it stopped working.

Is there any way I can check which program is using which hotkeys ?

Andy

Preferred Solution: Hotkey not working after updates

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have Windows 10 Home version 1607 build 14393.321 on top of my Lenovo Z51-70 80K6 laptop. Fn+F7 hotkey is supposed to turn flight mode on or off, but it doesn't. All other Fn-keys work as expected.I don't know what to do to make Fn+F7 toggle flight mode. I can provide more information if you need it. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Hi: The only suggestion I can offer would be to install the HP System Event Utility from your notebook's support page. This package contains the HP System Event Utility, which enables special function keys on supported notebook models to be programmed. For example, HP System Event Utility enables users to press the Fn+ESC keys to view system information. This package is provided for supported models running a supported operating system. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp76001-76500/sp76383.exe

I must have set a windows system hotkey?

I have f/8 set as a photoshop hotkey...recently when I hit f/8 it caused a semi transparent deep blue screen with two large gear graphics in the center to pop up over my screen.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how I set that.

I do have a macro program, MacroExpress running, but it does not have any setting in it for f/8.

I thought it might have come from windows media player (I'm running version 11) but I cannot find any setting of f/8 in the WMP menus.

anyone have a guess how I set this? and how to turn it off?

thanks,

Tom O'Connell

When you hit F8 in Photoshop, what have you set it up to do?

For the life of me, I couldn't imagine how you set that up. When did this start occuring (or at least, when did you first notice this)?

I shut down my laptops once every week; they're either in sleep mode or hybernating. My P50 is currenly running Windows 7 Pro with all the drivers installed. I have changed bios settings such that the function keys behave as function keys and only act as media keys (or whatever they're called) when pressed in combination with the Fn key. All hotkeys work as they are intended to.However, resuming from hybernation causes only the reduce brightness key (Fn + F5) to stop performing although all other hotkeys work as they should. Pressing the F5 key by itself works normally; its just the Fn + F5 combination that doesn't work.Anyone experiencing this ?

I have installed a new copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit onto a new machine.

Like my previous machine, I tried to change the input language from English to Korean with the right alt key.
It doesn't work. I've checked the keyboard with my laptop, right alt key changes the input language fine.

On my laptop (with working right alt key) in "Text Services and Input Languages" the default input language
is set to "Korean (Korea) - Microsoft IME." This is the only input language that has been set up.
I did the same with my new computer, but it doesn't work.

On my laptop when I hit the right alt key, the language would change as shown in the image above.

On my new computer when I hit right alt I hear the Windows exclamation sound and nothing happens.

Any help is much appreciated.

Hi I just recently got a Y700 laptop( Model: 80NW0010US ). 15" Touchscreen versionJust recently the F5 Airplane Mode hot key has stopped working. It worked when I first received it a few days ago, and all of the other hotkeys are still working just fine. I should probably mention that the F5 key, itself, works. As I can still hit the F5 key and it will refresh the current web page. I can still turn airplane mode on/off through network settings, but I really want to fix the hotkey if possible. I've gone to Lenovo's support page and installed the following:-BIOS update-Energy_Manager_and_Flight_Mode_Driver-Battery Gauge-WLAN-Synaptics-Intel WLAN-Intel Management Engine Interface Driver-Intel Bluetooth-Intel Chipset-Lenovo Utility-Advanced Configuration and Power Management Interface (ACPI) Driver I have run the following programs(none of which show anything being infected/corrupted):-McAfee Antivirus-Malwarebytes-Command Prompt ( sfc and DISM ) None of the above helped in fixing the airplane mode hotkey. Last night (about 23 hours ago) I made shortcuts of my most used programs to my desktop. I then designated hotkeys to each shortcut as well as making the shortcuts "Hidden".

Last night, the Hotkeys were working perfectly, but now as I turned on my computer the hotkeys don't seem to work anymore.

Any kind of help is very much appreciated

A:Hidden Desktop Shortcuts' Hotkey not working

Making shortcuts hidden does not disable key combinations that you assign to them.

Please check whether key combinations are still assigned.
You can use this free program RJL Software - Software - Utility - Shortcut Key Explorer - Download

I have a Lenovo Edge 2 (one of the Flex Series) that has been working great for the past 10 months.  I usually use the mouse and turn of the touchpad so I don't accidentally move the cursor while typing.  On this machine, the F6 key enables/disables the touchpad.NORMALLY:  a notification comes up briefly on the screen when F6 is pressed (either a diagram of the touchpad, or a diagram with a diagonal line across the touchpad); there is a "live" icon in the lower right hand tray of the display that indicates when the touchpad is disabled.PROBLEM:  Yesterday evening an automatic Windows 10 update occured, and the touchpad could no longer be disabled (the notification came up, but the touchpad worked even when the notifcation indicated that it should be disabled); also, the "live" icon was gone.  TEMPORARY FIX: I uninstalled the Windows 10 update, and resinstalled the Synaptics driver for the touchpad (from the Lenovo website), and everything is back to normal.  I have prevented automatic updates by making my internet connection "metered", but I work in many places, and use different networks, and don't want to have to keep all of them "metered".MY QUESTION:  Any ideas what this update is doing to mess up my touchpad, and how to fix it? (I would like to allow the updates)?

I have a Lenovo ThinkPad E560. Above the number pad, there are four keys, a calculator, a lock, a sphere that means "internet", and a folder. Three of them (calculator, internet, folder) work, but the "lock screen" does nothing. I have tried:1. Installing "Lenovo Hotkey Features Integration" for Windows 10 off the Lenovo website2. Pressing the "Fn" key while pressing the lock screen key Neither of these things made it work. The key is not physically broken - if I press it in certain contexts (such as when the Desktop is showing) I get a Windows "ding" sound (the same way you get if you press any other key Windows doesn't recognize at the Desktop). For some reason the system just doesn't seem to know what to do with it, even with Lenovo Hotkey Features Integration installed. This is a brand-new install of Windows 10 on a laptop I just bought (used), so I cannot say whether or not the key worked in the past. I *can* lock Windows using the Windows key + L shortcut. Does anyone have any ideas how to get the "lock screen" key working?

If anyone has any ideas to what could be wrong i would glady appreciate it. I have been at this for a few days now and no answers not even from the Toshiba site.

Thanks

A:Brightness Control Hotkey No Working On Toshiba P105

I assume this is the "push the Fn button and another key" thingie? If so, check to ensure that the Fn key works by pressing it and one of the other functions to see if that works.

Then test the key that you use to adjust brightness - without using the Fn key. Does that key also perform it's designated function?

This'll let you determine if it's an error with the keyboard.

Toshiba Satellite T130- 16w, Windows 7

Several months ago i deleted some of the factory bloatware on my laptop because of slowdown. Though i checked everything was unnecessary before deleting it, i think i might've made a mistake. Since then i've only used mobile internet. Today I came to turn the wireless on the function+F8 key no longer does anything. The little wireless/bluetooth menu does not appear. Wireless is currently off and I can't get it on.

Wireless is turned on in the BIOS. In the device manager it appears as working and enabled. The computer is in every way set up to use it, I just can't get the key to do anything so i can't turn it on. Weirdly, I can turn bluetooth on and off separately, just not wireless.

I've updated the driver for the wireless but the hotkey driver isn't anywhere on the site. I've tried searching it elsewhere but couldn't find it for windows 7. Can I use the XP one, or one from a different Toshiba model? The T130 section just returns no results.

Does it sound like the hotkey is the issue? Does anyone know where I'd find the driver? Is there any way to turn the wireless on without using the function key (there's no switch)? Like through windows? I've been trying to sort it out for 4 hours and gotten nowhere.

Thanks for reading.

Hi

Win 7 requires the Toshiba VAP (value added package) installation to get the FN buttons working.
Visit the Toshiba EU driver page and there you can find the VAP for Win 7 64bit

If you need the VAP for Win 7 32bit, choose another notebook series and use the VAP released for another notebooks.
The VAP does not depend on notebook series.

Hello,
I've got a laptop, sony fz21e, which did come with Vista installed.
Now that windows 7 has been around for a while, my friend has maanged to install it on the laptop, since it can use vista drivers.
Ive added uk extended keyboard to the standard list (which was uk keyboard and some other thingy I dont know). I also set default keyboard to extended.
Now if I want to do a letter with a circumflexy, i type ALTGR+ 6, let go of all keys, then press the required letter. this works.

But for some reason, tilde doesnt work (did in Vista). Normally, AltGr + # (tilde is on # key) followed by required letter. Tried using shift, just in case, but no joy.
Tilde works fine by itself (ie shift #)

OK Thanking you all for Any and all ideas

When all else fails, all symbols have ASCII codes that can be looked up - then just use the alt key plus the numeric code for the symbol u want. Here is a link (but there are many)..... http://www.ascii-code.com/ hope this of help. I'm sure you can then setup a rarely used key as a hot key, I just can't remember how to do that - LOL.

In normal mode, my Internet Explorer does not work. I try to open it but the pages never come in although I am sure I am connected. I also tried Firefox and that is not work either, with the same error as IE. Windows Live email does work and I am able to pull down email, but none of the browsers work.

Also, when I try to update Spybot, Ad-Aware, Malwarebytes they fail, saying that updates cannot be downloaded. I was able to run and update in Safe mode with network to get the updates and run Spybot, Symantec Antivirus, Ad-Aware, Malwarebytes, and Windows: safety.live.com, but no issues were found and the when I reboot in Normal mode, the same problem exists.

Next, I ran SDfix in safe mode and have attached in this note, but also, the same problems exist (see attached: Report.txt)

Finally, I have now run dds.scr this and am posting the results. (see DDS.txt below and attached: Attach.txt)

First i had problems to download updates automatically, it always got stuck on 17% and it did use internet, and that caused my net speed to be slow. So i set it to maual and downloaded the update, and it was successful. But, when shutting down, it gets stuck as "configuring windows, please wait, do not shut down" i waited for around a day and it was still stuck. so i restarted computer thrice but in vain.

So because of that i have to hibernate each time instead of shutting down.
The same is happening for microsoft security essentials. it gets stuck at around 1/4 of the bar on "searching". Scanned with MSE, got a few viruses, removed them and tried updating again but still not working correctly. The same for tuneup utilities 2014. I thought that antivirus was the problem, so i installed spybot but even that gets stuck when scanning on "SmitFraud"

You can set windows updates with various options.

1) Automatic updates which you have now.
2) Download updates for me but let me choose when to install them.
3) Notify me but dont automatically download or install.
4) Turn off automatic updates.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled AVG 8 and that didn't help. I've looked at my settings in Zone Alarm and they all allow AVG to do what it wants. I looked to see if Windows firewall was on but when I tried to look, a pop-up said that :
"Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) Service."
I have another computer that will not update AVG 8 automatically, but does just fine manualy.
Another computer that I fixed 2 months ago, was updating AVG 8 automatically just fine then one day it just quit updating and now it won't update.

Hello TSF, I have been trying diligently to get my pc to download & install windows updates and to no avail, I have been unsuccessful. I have noticed that my updates have not been installed since early in December 2014 and although for the most part my pc appears to be running fairly well, but I do have issues when streaming live videos & even the playback of youtube videos as the videos are constantly stopping, pausing and lagging causing me to have to click "refresh" quite often. I don't know what effect the lack of windows updates have on playing videos but I would imagine that it is affecting my pc's performance in some way, and also I might ask, could my tuneup utilities, malwarebytes or webroot security have anything to do with my windows updates not working? So if anyone can assist me with figuring this problem out you helpful advice would be greatly appreciated, thankyou in advance....

A:HP Updates Not Working

I'm assuming that you're referring to the HP OfficeJet 7410 All-In-One.

If so, the software updates and support site for it is located here.

You didn't mention which version of Windows that you're using.

I checked the links to the updates and they're working fine and downloading the files.

I've recently installed Windows 7 a few times, trying to solve this problem. On initial install all is fine, but after a while things stop working. ipconfig. ping, installing software, Manage computer, open attachents from outlook 2007 etc. all stop working after a while.

Any ideas? I have the latest updates installed and even tried stopping updates, it still happens. works great for a while and then certain functions stop. A few guys at work are having this problem and others not... ??

You say other people at work.. So this happens to Pc's on the network?

Or is it happening to you at home..

I have an updates issue. I just downloaded & installed SP1 on the system. And after that everytime I start the system I get a small popup which states as windows update is not enabled. I have tried every thing possible. But cannot do that. When I checked services.msc. It showed automatic updates as disabled, whenever I try to set it manual. It say service cannot be started & is gets disabled again. I have run scans but got nothing.

I've just bought what I had hoped would be a pretty slick working laptop, Lenovo Z50 with i7 processor an 8Gb mem. It came with Win 8.1 which I despise, but knowing I could update to win 10 that didn't concern me. However, after upgrading to win 10 via a USB drive I find that windows update just does not work. Just the infernal blue ring of dot's going round forever. I tried the windows "Fix it" thingy from microsoft which was unable to solve the problem, (very unhelpful) so now I'm at a loss. I also tried another on-line suggestion of deleting the files from the "SoftwareDistribution" folder after stopping "wuauserv" and "bits". I was not able to delete everything even after a re-boot. Any ideas what I can do now?

Many thanks for whatever anyone can suggest.

Bob.

Hi guys,

So I have "Automatically update my apps" enabled, but pressed the "Check for updates" button to check if it is working correctly, and noticed there was a Bing Weather update available! I've gone ahead and installed it manually, and sure enough the version I had: .258 has been updated to .309. Anyone know why this app was not automatically updated?

By the way, I'm not using a metered internet connection.

(Later edit) Great, I've just checked again and there is a Bing News update available now! No automatic update happening, and also no number 1 visible on the Store app live tile, despite the fact that there is clearly one update available!

Curious that they were both Bing apps though. Maybe it's a Bing thing.

Hi I installed Win 7 Pro on a Win XP Laptop recently and it did do some updates but then it got stuck and would not finish. I had activated it, but was not happy with it the way it was, especially since I did not do a reformat so Windows.old was still on it and taking up valuable space.

I thought I'd re-format it again, do it right this time and hopefully the updates would not get stuck. This time I didn't activate it right away just in case things went wrong, and I had to do it all over again. This time the updates would not work at all. I clicked "check for updates" and it said "searching for updates" but I let it go for hours and not one update came on. (Actually there may have been one or 2) but I'm not sure if they were there as part of the install or if they actually came during the searching for updates. I had installed "avg" and wondered if that was stopping the updates. I searched the web and found some solutions but nothing worked. I had never activated this time so I decided to try to reformat again.

(Three times a charm), I thought. This time I reformatted it and decided maybe I needed to activate it so the updates would come. Again I clicked "check for updates" and it said "searching for updates" but after hours nothing. I tried the microsoft Fixit and the Microsoft diagnostic tool, it said it was able to fix some issues but not everything.

My question is, I left the recovery partition from Win XP (whi... Read more

It doesn't need to be activated to get the updates. Windows updates on a clean system can take a very long time. What can help is installing two update patches prior to checking for any updates.

Download these updates on another PC and install them on the new OS prior to connecting to the internet:

The yellow shield appears in the bottom toolbar and says 0%, as if something's downloading. But it stays at 0% and the shield quickly goes away. I cant double-click or right-click the shield. According to the windows site Internet Explorer 7 is a high priority update. I'm not going to download it yet anyway, I've started using Firefox. Also, I downloaded ZoneAlarm a couple of days ago (but i'm not sure the problem only started since these downloads). Any ideas?
