Internet explorer infections, due to son on malicious site.

Q: Internet explorer infections, due to son on malicious site.

Hello,

Well I will try to be descriptive as possible in the issues and how they came to be. Additionally, I have followed all steps in the "pre-post" with the exception of Updating Windows. The reason being, I cannot go to windows update through mozilla and if I open internet explorer ... my computer will be bombarded.

The Issue:

This took some time for him to come clean, but my son evidentally got a game online and didn't have a registration key. He says he tried to find one online and went to a page for serials, clicked on the link and then all this happened.

Unfortunately, being scared that he might've messed up his father's computer , he just walked away and allowed whatever was happening to run its course. The result is repetitive and at this point I am quite lost on what to do.

When I came home from work, I found my computer with all kinds of popups, error messages, etc going and additionally a task manager blocker so I couldnt get to ctrl alt del. I shut down, rebooted in safe mode and ran spy sweeper (my default engine) and then adaware.

There were alot of results, the list I do have if needed. Based on the "severity" indicator ... the top 10 programs were pretty severe. Quarantined and deleted (with system restore off). I should note here that I was told that there was a virus running in the memory (that warning is no longer occurring with the anti-virus/spyware/etc.

After I restarted I got two blocked access dialogs, but that was it. Ran adaware again and found a little less, but much the same. Took action suggested.

I then attempted to open internet explorer and saw that something wrong was happening. Immediately hit ctrl alt del, and could see immediately all kinds of obviously malicious programs loading and then the error messages started popping up.

I have not used internet explorer since. I've found that if I open Firefox, I don't have those issues and I have gotten to this page through that. I've followed all the instructions (except xp updates as stated above, but i think its on automatic) and currently have spybot set as my default.

My issue I guess is, I can run any program you put in front of me and yeah it'll find something, either quarantine or delete it and then run a clean scan with no results. If I open Internet Explorer though, BAM back to square one.

Backing up all of this data, and having to reinstall all these programs and information not to mention personal settings is almost too much to bear. I'm hoping we don't need to do this.

I should also note that I can find some of the malicious .exe files which are obvious to me by just going into c:\windows.

Below is my hijack this log.

Preferred Solution: Internet explorer infections, due to son on malicious site.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi there,

I switched on my computer today and I can't get onto the internet. Every time I run Explorer (my home page is set to Google), a pop up from Avast says that it has blocked the site because it is a malicious URL. I guess that I've probably picked up some virus/trojan, but I have no idea how to start to get rid of it. I have temporarrily disabled Avast so I can get onto the Internet.

Any help would be genuinely appreciated,

I have tried most of the posts on the internet to fix this problem--this is under IE6--"Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later." The problem just suddenly appeared. I'm running a Dell Inspiron B130 laptop with Win XP Home, Service Pack 3 installed, 1 gb ram and a 40 gb HDD. Had McAffee Internet Security Suite preinstalled but removed it via REVO Uninstaller and have only Windows firewall enabled and NO anti-virus. I did try downloading with Windows firewall disbaled and still no success. I can navigate to a site like Google Chrome download page but then when I click on the download button, the error message appears. Also can't download Microsoft or Windows updates from either site, although, again, I can get through the "checking" phase. I've run Malwarebytes, A-Squared, and IObit 360 and removed about 13 traces of malware ranging from low risk to high risk, defragged and cleaned the reg, all to no avail. I originally had IE7 installed, read about rolling back to IE6 and doing the typical repair sequences, again to no avail. Supposedly IE8 fixes this, but I can't download it, although I did try the stand-alone installer of 15 MB without checking the "get updates" box. It loaded and installed and shows up as IE8 but still had the same problems. Then did a system restore back to before the IE8 install, rolled back to IE6 again... Read more

Hi allI've just registered here in the hopes that someone can help me with my problem. I've exhausted every option I can think of to try and fix this problem but I'm still having issues.I am currently using FireFox 8.0 and I am using Norton 360 Version 5.0. My operating system is Windows Vista Home Premium.I keep getting a Malicious Web Site Blocked page pop up just about every time I click on anything. Then Norton takes me to this page when I click on detailed report:Pagebut doesn't explain to me what I can do to resolve this problem. It's very annoying. I can't do anything without this popping up. I've run computer scans etc etc but nothing gets rid of whatever the hell this is. I don't even know what Widdit is or how it's affecting me? I've never been anywhere called Widdit?First I ran just a full computer scan to see if it picked up anything, but nothing came up bar a few tracking cookies. So then I went to the Norton Community forums for more help and they've suggested downloading a Anti-Malware program, but that picked up nothing on any scans. I then ran Nortons Power Eraser as suggested as well but that picked up nothing either.I'm still getting this Malicious Web Site Blocked page pop up a lot, just when I'm browsing through sites I normally go to. I don't know what's going on at all. I've tried everything I can think of and any help would be much appreciated!Thank you!

Hello, let's see if these will show us somethings. Please download the TDSS Rootkit Removing Tool (TDSSKiller.exe) and save it to your Desktop. <-Important!!!Be sure to download TDSSKiller.exe (2.6.11.0) from Kaspersky's website and not TDSSKiller.zip which appears to be an older version 2.3.2.2 of the tool.Double-click on TDSSKiller.exe to run the tool for known TDSS variants.

I need to use Internet Explorer for several functions at work otherwise I would just use Firefox but I am encountering a major problem. Whenever I log on to a website through Internet Explorer I get a message saying something to the effect of "Internet Explorer cannot access the website". Hi, perkinshershel, and welcome to the forums.
Have you performed any sort of autotuning disabling on your machine, or else 'tweaked' the TCP/IP settings?

FWIW, Vista doesn't do well with tweaked TCP/IP settings like XP does - it has an autotuning feature that dynamically changes the values for various settings n the TCP/IP stack as needed, thereby making the need for tweaked TCP/IP settings a thing of the past.

Didn't happen with IE7, and may just go back to it.

A:internet explorer cannot open the internet site...

Did you try other sites ? That is a quick check to see if the problem is your browser. And it would need to be a site that uses similar setup. So if the page that doesn;'t display has lots of javascript, go to another one that has lots of javascript, etc.

On one of my sites, sometimes one particular page wouldn't display. I had to re-edit it, upload, it works fine now. So it may not be your browser. It could be that site.

A:is this a malicious site?

Zango is considered adware. Did you fully read the paragraph which tells you what Zango is and what it does? If you want to be bombarded by ads, keep it. If not, uninstall. http://www.pchell.com/support/zango.shtml for information on Zango, then you can decide whether to keep or uninstall.pchell mentions Hijack This. If you feel comfortable running HJT and removing the entries on your own, then do so. If not, you can post a log in the Hijack This forum and a member of the HJT team will review your log and guide you through the removal process.

A:internet explorer freezes on some site need help

Hi defkickjam

Did you build the system, or did someone build it for you? If someone built it for you, and you are experiencing freezes within two weeks, you may want to contact the builder.

If you built this yourself ---

1) Have a look in the EventViewer logs to see if any errors or warnings coincide with the system unresponsiveness. (EventViewer is in the Administrative Tools in Control Panel).
2) Thoroughly scan for malware -- if you have run the PC for any extended period without the firewall or antivirus enabled, malware could be causing the trouble.
3) Try using a different browser (Firefox is fairly good) & see if the problem exists using all browsers, or just one.
4) If you are currently logging into Vista as a "limited" user, try logging on as a user with administrative rights.
5) Have you changed any of the UAC settings recently? If so, try moving them back to their default settings. A security message might be trying to display, & Vista is hanging while waiting for a reply.

Best of luck

Looking for some advice: I am creating a website and need to test the site using IE 6. Does anyone know of a place that I can test my site using IE 6 browser. I currently have IE 7 installed, but when I view my site using IE6 the 3 column template does not fit on the home page.

I don't want to run IE6 on my computer or both versions of IE... Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

A:Internet Explorer 6 Test Site

Do you have a spare computer that you could install IE 6 on and open the website using that. Even better create a virtual machine on your computer then install Windows XP evaluation on it and open the site using your virtual machine.

Microsoft have a free tool to make and run virtual machines called Microsoft Virtual PC.

Hello,
I purchased a new desktop. Sony VAIO, too much crap in it but it had most of what I wanted. I had to add a wireless adapter to access home network and internet.
At first I could get to MSN via internet explorer then I could not.
I can get to most internet but many pages won't load including microsoft, windows update, sony, etc.

Any Ideas why this has occurred?
Ideas to correct. I turned off Windows firewall because I use Norton's.
I can also access hotmail.

Hello
My Internet Explorer is not loading one particular site but another browser is.  The site in question was once a part of Kaspersky's Smart Money list and is a bank.  It has been deleted and that software was recently upgraded to a newer product (Total Security).  I do not know if the a/v is the issue or not.  What I do know is that when I try to load the web page, the browser comes back VERY quickly and states that the address is wrong or my connection to the Internet is down.  Neither is true, of course.

I need some assistance to trouble shoot and try to find out a way to fix this.

System is a HP ENVY, Windows 8.1 x64, IE 11. All MS updates are current.
Thanks

Try resetting Internet explorer settings to default. Open the run box by holding down the Windows key and pressing "R".  Next Copy and past the following command and click RESET.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware finds nothing - SuperAntiSpyware finds nothing. I had avg at the time all this started happening. I have Mcafee on her now and it finds nothing.
I've tried to follow some of the advise to similar posts but I still have a problem.

For example, when I clicked on the link above, Download TSG SysInfo, I get this popup: "SysInfo.exe couldn't be downloaded". I tried to download Adobe Reader and got the same thing. I cannot open a pdf file from an email message. I have tried many solutions from many internet sites, but none worked. I reset IE to default setting, messed around with manage add-ons and other settings, but no luck. I ran full scan with Microsoft security essentials and malware, no threats detected. disabled windows firewall, didn't help. I can surf the internet ok, but sometimes get the pop-up, internet explorer has stopped working. I would ditch IE and use google chrome but can't download it. the problem seems to be with IE.
My computer is a dell i660, intel core i5-3330 with windows 7 home premium 64 bit, about 2 years old and works great otherwise.

After repairing my computer by deleting Malware or Trojan with BleepingComputer (www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic389668.html), during the following days I noticed that ONLY at our favorite site (www.cyberpresse.ca) certain parts move as if in a tremor. The main page which contains the titles of all the articles, is ok. But when I click on a detailed article that's when the tremors start. The detailed article contains several boxes for related articles and those boxes move up and down with certain lines of the article that are situated near the bottom of the boxes. This doesn't happen with other sites. I checked the same site with our neighbor computer. The fault is in my computer. Can u help me ? Thank you !

A:Pages jolt at one site in Internet Explorer

I found the answer to my problem. When I click on a detailed article, there is an icon, mostly on top of a box, "F recommended" (F recommender) that causes the tremor. It seems that it is a Facebook problem that they are trying to resolve. I switched off "Compatibility view" in TOOLS of Internet Explorer. Now it moves only once when the icon "F recommended" comes on. Another solution, is to switch from Internet Explorer 8 to Internet Explorer 9.

I was recently trying to find out how to change the Minecraft skin from Alex to Steve, but that's not the point. I found a site that has a malicious download, the site itself isn't malicious, just the download. I don't know what to do, I scanned it with ClamTk (uses the ClamAV engine) and it said it was adware (specifically Win.Adware.InstallCore-581), and then scanned it with VirusTotal and got 25/52 detection. Do I report it to you guys? The site and the file? Who do I report it to if not you? Do you guys want me to give you the site? (The reason I didn't do it here was because of your policy).
