T460 Fan Accelerates loudly for 1-2 seconds on CPU...

Q: T460 Fan Accelerates loudly for 1-2 seconds on CPU...

I have a new T460 - whenever running a task that momentarily spikes the CPU usage (some heavy website loading for example) the fan accelerates to a very loud noise level for about 1 second and then immediately slows down. It's extremely annoying to say the least - I'm pretty sure this cannot be an expected behaviour, everytime there is a spike in CPU usage. I've read a similar post about the X1 that indicates it might be related to the bios version. Lenovo support or anyone, do you know if a bios update is scheduled for the T460 to address this fan issue? Anyone else experiencing this? Current using Bios 1.10

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

When I input something with my keyboard, the touchpad/trackpoint doesn't accept any clicking for about ~0.5 seconds. Its a small delay but it is driving me insane. T460 laptop, Synaptics Clickpad V1.1 Things I've tried:-  Reinstalling drivers, and restarting laptop. Nothing changed.-  Turned palm rejection to minimum. This fixes an earlier problem where the mouse would stop moving with keyboard presses, but it doesn't affect the clicking delay.-  Went into the registry editor, found 'synaptics' under 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE' but couldn't find any variables that indicate a delay after keyboard presses. I'd really appreciate any help with this. ~3 hours of googling isn't helping me. Windows 10 Accelerates Growth to Become World?s Top Desktop Operating System

The release of Windows 10 Fall Creators Update seems to help Microsoft?s latest desktop operating system, with statistics provided by NetMarketShare revealing a major share increase recorded in November.

The growth of Windows 10 has slowed down in the last 12 months or so, mostly because the majority of Windows 7 and 8.1 customers who were eligible for the upgrade to the new OS already performed the switch, but now it looks like the growth has gained more speed as a result of the Fall Creators Update launch.

Windows 10 was running on 31.95 percent of the desktop systems in November, NetMarketShare says, while Windows 7 continues to be the leader with 43.12 percent. While Windows 7 itself improved from 43.05 percent the month before, Windows 10 was the one gaining all the praises, as its market share skyrocketed from 29.86 percent in November.

This means that Windows 10 is getting closer to its 2009 sibling, though it?ll undoubtedly take longer than expected before a switch of positions takes place.
Windows 7 EOL
And while sooner or later Windows 10 will manage to take over Windows 7 and become the world?s number one desktop operating system, Microsoft certainly hopes this will happen as soon as possible because of one big reason.

Windows 7 will reach end of support in January 2020, which means that no other updates and security fixes would be released beyond this date.

The other day I got home and I heard this screech. I followed the noise to my computer. I've had this computer for about a year and a half and I've never had this problem before. I shut it down, opened the case and used canned air to clean the fans. Then i rebooted and the noise was gone. Tonight out of nowhere, the fan started screeching again. I checked the cpu temp on the thermometer on the case of the computer and cpu temp was normal at 32 degrees C. I turned the computer so it had more air and blew in it and the fan stopped making noise. I Dled CPUID Hardware Monitor and it looks like all the temps are fine. The fans are running at 1339 - 1383 respectively. I have liquid cooling and a couple of fans and if it's not the CPU that's running hot, what else might it be? Please advise, thanks

A:Fan Started Running loudly lately

Bell,

Without hurting yourself, try and temporarily stop all fans that are running in the computer one at a time. Perhaps gently press on the middle part of the fan so that the blades don't hit you, and you can find out if it is screeching, pressing harder and harder until it stops. There are many fans, side fans, high fans, low fans. test em all. If you find the bad one, look up ways you might be able to fix it, or just replace it. Fans can go bad. Dust and lack of greese may be what is causing the screeches. If it isn't a fan, it could be the hard drive, but we'll get to that after you post back. Good luck! (Please be careful)

Hey Guys

I have a problem with my son's computer that I hope somebody can help me with. It is a Compaq with Windows XP SP2. It sometimes runs very slowly and the cooling fan runs quite loudly. Other times it runs and sounds normal. I used msconfig to turn off the programs that I didn't need running and am constantly running virus and antispyware software. I also use Cleanup! regularly. I am including a hjt log so that hopefully somebody will be able to see something that we can fix.

Thanks

posted once but cannot locate my post, so I'll keep it short. I have looked thru these posts trying to find answer for Win 7 'eliminating' my audio, a common problem it seems. I have tried every fix a non techie can do; updating sound card driver, re-installing, and re-re-installing Win 7 Pro, checking all connections to speakers and verifying they still work, formatted both my drives and re-re-re-installed again, and still no audio. Sound card is built into a Tyan s2866 server motherboard and worked fine until I upgraded from Win XP Pro to Win 7 Pro (32 bit).

The errors I get are; no audio device installed, and yellow'!' next to MultiMedia Controller in device manager. Any help is appreciated, though please keep it simple, tech talk confuses the heck out of me.

Hi,

In January 2006 I bought a brand new Dell. In the past year the fan starts to spin loudly on occasion. For instance, when my antivirus program scans my computer, the fan speeds up. It also seems to do this if I'm running a few pieces of software, and also some websites in Firefox.

Does anyone know if there is something wrong? And if so, what can I do?

Thanks for your help!

A:Solved: Fan Sometimes Spins Quickly and Loudly

It is normal for the fan to speed up when the load on the processor causes temperature increase. If you think it is doing it excessively I would check that the air intakes are clear of fluff and dust and, if you feel competent enough, open up the case and check the fan on the processor is free of dust etc.

Hello. I recently posted on www.techsupportforums.com. I'm awaiting a reply from someone there.

Hello Kirbycc,

Does the fan sound normal or is there something extra?
You seem to have few replies on TechSupport, but I would start with cleaning/dusting.
Heat can explain all your problem and often the reason is the dust. It is also possible that there is something wrong with your fan too...

Hello,

I am running Windows 7 Home premium, 64-bit. A couple of days ago, very suddenly, without any action/installation/ updates on my part, the sound started randomly blowing up when playing any kind of multimedia, including online streaming. All volume indicators
remain at the level set, but the sound itself goes to maximum, creating a health hazard as regardless of the volume we set it, it deafens us. So, for example, streaming a youtube video at 50% volume and having the main volume set at 40%, the sound would burst
to its loudest from time to time.

Tweaking the settings in the 'Sound' properties has had no effect. Updating the Realtek HD driver to the latest available also has done nothing to resolve the situation. The problem persists. OS has become unusable for anything that includes sound, and is now
a health hazard. Please help.

We have an HP Pavilion dv2700 laptop, purchased in 2008 at Circuit City in the US. It runs Windows Vista Home Premium. It's developed a problem that prevents it from booting. When I press the power button, the HP welcome screen with the boot options flashes (usually too fast to press F8), then proceeds to the "Windows Error Recovery" screen. There are two options here: "Launch Startup Repair" and "Start Windows Normally;" also a countdown timer of 30 seconds that says the highlighted option will be executed if no selection is made. If I use the arrow keys to select an option, the timer goes away and I am unable to select any options using the Enter key (it's like the Enter key is disabled). If I let the timer expire, another screen comes up that says "loading windows files." A loading bar flashes across the bottom of the screen twice then the "Microsoft Corporation" logo appears with the normal loading graphic scrolling horizontally just above the logo. It seems to get stuck here.

If I attempt to hold down the power button to power down the computer, it will initially shut off for about one second. It then powers back up automatically with a blank screen and begins beeping very loudly. The beeps are a steady pattern of one long beep followed by two short beeps. At this point, holding down the power button will not shut down the computer. The only way to stop the beeping is to remove the battery from the bottom of th... Read more

I bought a new HP laptop in September and eveything has been fine since yesterday. Whilst I was watching a video on YouTube, I noticed a loud whirring noise coming from the fan. I decided the safest thing to do would be to turn off the laptop. I did and when I tried to turn it back on, I got an error message telling me that it was turned off due to overheating, and shut down straight away again. I looked up my problem and decided to try a solution that suggested removing the battery, draining the power, and restarting. That worked fine and the issue didn't reappear yesterday.  Just now, the same sudden noise happened again and I decided to leave the laptop on, and it stopped after 15-20 seconds. The laptop is pretty new so I don't think it's normal to be experiencing fan issues. How do I solve this? My product number is F0F90EA#ABU

I used my pc Sunday morning without any problems and left it as usual for awhile as I did other things. When I came back to it I couldn't get it to run. I switched it off and on and the fan went crazy but no response from the actual pc. The start button remained amber.
Monday night I tried again and it ran without any problem until I left it and it went to standby. I have tried since then but it won't boot, the fan is very loud and the light remains amber.
I have unplugged it and checked connections but it won't start.
I have heard it could be the CPU or the motherboard, is there any way I can fix this without taking it to a repair shop?
Many thanks

Hey Mates,

I have not found a definitive solution to this problem. My wife's l XPS 730x will not load to windows. It turns on and the fan gets really loud, but that's it. No POST as far as I can tell. I removed the memory and got no beeps.
usually, After being unplugged for a few days, it will, at some point, work. Then we never turn it off until the next power outage/toddler button push. Then it starts all over again. We've tried unplugging it and pressing the Power button to drain residual power, but it isn't working now.

Point is, it WILL work...when it feels like it. Its frustrating. I started a ticket, i think, but its now out of warranty.

I get no diagnostic lights up front. All 4 lights come on and stay on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks mats!

Hi, first off I am very sorry if this is in the wrong forum. So, lately my computer has been running very loudly and very slow. Also, when I play any sound it makes a weird noise sometimes and skips. My CPU usage jumps from 20 to 30 to 100% for no apparent reason. I tired running anti-virus programs, but that didn't work. I did disk defragment and disk cleanup, but neither of those worked. I really don't know much about computers though, so I am stuck on what to do next. Please try to help me and thank you. I have windows XP. Sorry if this isn't enough information, I just really don't know much about computers. I should be fine following any instructions to give more info and to fix it even though I don't know much.

I've got a set of 5.1 Logitech Z-5500 speakers. What happens is the back right speaker in my setup will suddenly, without any warning, start popping loudly when I have sound going. First it'll pop once, then there's a short delay. Next the popping gets louder and more frequent, and eventually, the speaker will pop about 20 times rapidly before all the speakers go dead and the sound stops completely.

The control pod stays on, but there's no sound. Turning off everything from the subwoofer, waiting a little, and turning the sub and the control pod back on will temporarily fix the problem.

This first happened a few months ago, and I kept the sub off for about two weeks before deciding to turn it on again. The speakers all worked and the problem went away until now. Now I can't keep the speakers on for a minute before the back right speaker pops and forces the sound off.

Does anyone know what it could be? I've isolated it to that speaker, and I've rechecked all of the wires multiple times. I believe I have the latest drivers but I feel that this is likely a hardware problem, I just don't know what it could be.

Ok, something interesting I've noted. If I have headphones on, the audio will stop, but without the popping. Could this mean it's not an issue with the speaker, and possibly with the sound card or driver?
I really appreciate any help.

Recently when I have tried to play games on my Laptop, my screen will turn black, but I can still hear the game in the background. I also hear a sound like I'm getting a notification but I can never see what it is because the display crashes. Then a few seconds later, the sound cuts out, my laptop beeps loudly about 16-22 times, and then it shuts off. I have updated all of my drivers, so I don't think that is the problem. I also blew out the dust out of my laptop, replaced the thermal paste, and bought a cooling pad, and my temperatures have been fine since then. I ran a memory diagnostics with the tool windows has for that, and it didn't find any issues with the RAM. I don't know what could be going on! I am running Windows 10 on my laptop. My laptop is a Clevo P150HMx, with an intel core i7 2630QM, and my graphics card is an Nvidia GeForce GTX 675M. All of my games used to run fine, but now I can hardly even get into a game without this happening. I'm not very tech savvy and I could use any help anyone has to offer! Thank you!

A:Laptop display crashes when playing games, then computer beeps loudly and shuts off

Ensure Windows is fully patched. Assuming the laptop officially supports Win10, ensure you are using the latest drivers available from the laptop manufacturer. Check Windows Event Viewer for any errors noted at the time of one of the crashes.

Hi, I have a very frustrating problem that just reared its ugly head last night. My computer started hesitating every few seconds, freezes, then starts the cycle all over again. It's difficult to do anything: browse the internet, use applications, or even type this post. I have not added any new hardware or programs recently except I upgraded Firefox last week but it has been running fine up until last night. Plus I uninstalled Firefox and it is still doing the same thing. I have Windows XP home version. So far I have deleted several programs and many other things from my computer that I could do without, I've checked my page file to see if it was correct and it was at the suggested amount, I scanned it with Norton's and it found no viruses, I scanned with Malbytes Anti-Malware and it found nothing infected, I opened up my hard drive case and cleaned/blew out the dust however it wasn't that dirty since I do this on occasion, I made sure my memory was not slipping out, I tried to defragment but my computer said that I do not need to at this time, I restored my computer back to a previous date. None of these things have made a difference. I was sure at least restoring it back would do the trick but it did not.
I'm confused to what the problem is and through my research can't seem to figure this one out on my own.
Does anyone have any suggestions or has anyone had similar problems?

Good morning folks! I'm really hoping you guys can help me with this. I just bought a new laptop last week from CyberPower. It's got the quad core i7, 16GB ram,6GB video card, solid state drive, solid machine. But right from the start I've been experiencing 1-2 second pauses in all video and even right now while typing, or while scrolling through websites. I've tried 3 different browsers, I've updated flash, run several full system virus scans. This happens in every application, whether it's hulu, facebook, playing a fully downloaded file with media player. I'm completely stumped as to why my brand new, high powered system is performing so badly....PLEASE HELP!

Alright I may not be the most computer savy person around but I've always managed to find and repair computer problems (with the exception of crashed HDDs) but this problem is odd and is driving me NUTS!

Symptoms:
Gaming HD

When I'm just on the desktop (no high demand programs/games) the computer cursor freeze (stutter) for 0.5 to 2.0 seconds every 5 to 10 seconds. Additionally the USB mouse occasionally disconnects/reconnects (with windows notification sound). I have moved USB mouse to different ports with no change. This makes it almost impossible to do anything. However youtube, netflix and DVDs (VLC) play without interruption during the stuttering.

The same occurs when playing any game only the screen freezes as well.

The same stuttering occurs on a completely separate HD which is in no way connected to the pure Gaming HD. (points to more of a hardware problem I think)

This started late last week and the only major change I did was installing homeworld remastered however I really don't think that is the cause as the separate HD also stutters.

Attempted Troubleshooting:
-The CPU and Vid Card were both pretty dusty so I took them out, cleaned and re-applyed thermal paste on the CPU --> no change to stuttering

I have an inferred temp gun and cleaning the dust did improve the temps (slightly) but no effect on the stuttering.

-Memory Diagnostic --> no problems

-Event Viewer --> WHEA event 20 error (not sure what this means but it only... Read more

Hello forum.

I have a month-old Dell Inspiron N7010 Core i5 460M with 6 gigs of ram running on Windows 7. Until recently, it has been starting up in about 75 seconds. However, out of nowhere, it suddenly began starting up in between 2 and a half minutes to 3 minutes. I am completely baffled, and I do not know what is wrong. Could it have been something I installed, or is it something that is beyond my knowledge. The last things I downloaded before the problems started were Starcraft II, Need for Speed World, and Microsoft Security Essentials, but I doubt one of those is the source of problem. Much help is greatly appreciated. :)

A:Startup time from 75 seconds to 165 seconds. What is wrong?

Hi, welcome to TSF

Of the 3 new programs you've recently installed, Microsoft Security Essentials is the most likely to affect the boot time. Check its options to see if it's set to scan at startup, and post back with the startup list from msconfig.

Check for Malware with a reliable & trusted malware detector and same with antivirus.

Make sure you don't have a load of unecessary stuff starting with Windows.

Run the Disk Defragmenter on the system drive (usually C)

If none of that makes any difference, you may have hidden malware so please post on the malware forum for expert advice:

Run msconfig and uncheck everything on the startup tab except your anti-virus.

Then restart and let us know if the problem persists or goes away. If it goes away, the culprit is one of the items you unchecked.

For a few days now my Dell Inspiron has been lagging/freezing every few minutes for a couple of seconds.

It seems to be happening no matter what i'm doing on the laptop - playing music, playing a game and even when it's idle. The whole system freezes and if there is audio playing it makes a strange buzzing noise. Any video playing freezes and the mouse freezes too. It is only for 2 seconds at most and isn't effecting the running of the laptop, it's more of an annoyance.

I've run a full scan with Avast! and Malware Bytes. Malware came up clean, Avast! found a few low level things that have been deleted or moved to the chest/vault.

I've also run ChkDsk, which found a few errors and, i'm assuming, fixed them. I left it running over night as it took a few hours to complete.

Any help or advice is hugely appreciated!!

hi,

windows 7 x64 on my laptop (intel core i5 @ 2.50ghz, 4 gb ram) has recently started freezing for a few seconds every few seconds, when i'm doing just about anything: browsing the web, copying files, using text redactor, etc. only the mouse cursor responds, control is back after a couple of seconds.

* the behaviour remains the same when booting in the safe mode
* there are no cpu or memory usage peaks in process explorer
* there are no hardware conflicts in device manager
* there are no critical errors in system log
* there is no antivirus active
* hardware tests (memory, etc.) do not report any errors

i suspect this has started after i've updated all the drivers from manufacturer's site, but i am not 100% sure. anyway, i do not know which driver has caused this and i cannot easily restore to the previous state.

how do i find the culprit?

My computer was new mid-May '03 and when I installed Roxio Easy CD Creator 6.0 I began to have a lot of problems... and ultimately uninstalled it.

The Roxio program caused about 20 Windows XP (looks like backups) in the Control Panel add/remove program (one of them I cancelled).

Does anyone have problems with XP and Roxio Easy CD Creator?

Both have been different since out of the box.
