Preferred Solution: the file is possibly corrupt. the file header checksum does not match the computed ch

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: the file is possibly corrupt. the file header checksum does not match the computed ch

You need to boot from the CD. Enter BIOS setup and change boot sequence so that the CD/DVD drive is the first boot device. Then you can boot from the recovery CD.

Note, using a recovery CD will erase the entire hard disk and you will lose any documents, emails etc on the hard disk.

My Dell Inspiron 1521 laptop won't get past the Dell logo at startup, resulting in a black screen with the error message:

"The file is possibly corrupt. The file header checksum does not match the computed checksum"

I shutdown my laptop normally last night and booted it up this morning and received this error message. I have not added or changed anything.

So far I've run the Windows hardware and memory diagnostic tool (F12) and there were no errors. I also tried to run the Windows Vista Repair/Reinstallation DVD that came with my laptop; however, none of the repair options will work and the Windows Vista install crashes each time.

Startup Repair provided the following problem signatures:

CorruptBootConfigData

FixPartitionTable

Can anyone suggest how I may begin to recover my laptop?

Help! Any technical assistance would greatly be appreciated.

Hi All
New build PC with Windows 7 32 bit, I keep on getting the following error message on start up after 30 mins of shut down ?. The file is possibly corrupt. The file header checksum does not match the computed checksum

Then I Alt+Ctrl+Del and the PC fires up ok.

The only peripherals connect are mouse, keyboard, and a Monitor, once booted up and running I have used the following to check things out:-

Windows Device Manager:- All items are working correctly with no exclamation or question mark warnings. I have update all drivers for all devices.

Windows computer maintenance: Again all items check OK and are working.

Intel Application Accelerator Raid:- again all Hard drives and their raid configurations all check out as OK.

If I restart the PC all is fine, if switch off the PC and restart within 10 to 20 mins all is OK. However if I switch off and re-start after 30 mins the checksum error message reappears.

Any advice or assistance would be appreciatedThanks Zee Man

Dell Inspiron 1525, Vista. AVG free, Adaware, Spybot S&D. Scans done weekly, no problem noted prior to this.

Daughter called me at work bent out of shape because she gets this on startup:

" The File is possibly corrupt. The file header checksum doses not match the
computer ed checksum..." All of her summer howework is on the HDD and she's no happy. She's been warned about not having backups, but she knows everything at her age...maybe this will get her attention. She says it flashes the Dell logo at start up and then goes to a black screen w/this message.
My search here kept coming up w/"IE cannot display this page...", so I thought I would start a new entry and hope somebody might have something to offer by the time I get home to look at it.

FWIW, this is a laptop on a wifi network. AVG on another computer on this network started giving a virus alert yesterday, (mentioning smitfraud), AVG scan found nothing, Panda online scan found nothing, and Spybot found nothing. That was my project for this weekend, but I guess it goes onto the back burner now. I do not know if there is a relationship between these two issues.

Any help anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I have a Toshiba running Windows 7. The computer was having a lot of problems with opening files, getting on the internet, etc. It would boot up but then wouldn't do anything else. I have the Toshiba recovery media CDs which I have used in the past when the computer got a virus. I tried to use them again. This time it went through the process on CD1 but after pressing finish, it now gives an error when trying to boot.

The file may be corrupt. The file header checksum does not match the computer checksum.

I tried taking the CD out and booting up and got the same error. I tried putting the CD back in and redoing it but still get the same error. Are there any suggestions?

Hi All,

I have been trying to install Windows 8 64 bit retail version on my PC for the last 6 hours without success . After the 1st part of the install where you choose the disk and partition to install to, then it copies files etc, the PC does a reboot, which is normal for this part of the install. However, I let the boot sequence continue without selecting dvd of course, then it tries to boot from the hard drive but I get an error.

The header checksum for this file doesnt match the computed checksum.

My system was previously running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit for years without any problems. This is not an upgrade, I am starting from a clean slate with a fresh wiped drive with no partitions.

Samsung 840 120GB SSD (Unplugged during this install for ease)
WD Black 1TB HDD (Unplugged during this install for ease)

I have tried both SSD's and also another Samsung 500GB HDD all with the same result.

I have tried the following:

I replaced the Corsair 4x4GB (16GB) DDR3 1333mhz with a set of 2x4gb (8gb) DDR3 1333mhz Elixir ram from my other machine.
The 64-bit DVD booted all the way to the installer this time with bios in AHCI mode and CD/DVD set to Auto/Non-EFI (1st time it has ever worked). The installation went on without a hitch and rebooted fine without a checksum error and I am now using the install to post this message without problems.

The RAM was the problem all along, although worked fine on Win 7 for a couple of years. Just must not like this new system setup.

Thanks to Mike Barnes from tomshardware for the suggestion.

A:[SOLVED] The file header checksum does not match the computed checksum

I think I know what the problem is. Hopefully, it's just my video card drivers screwing around. If that's the case, I'd just have to enter the OS in safe mode and delete the driver or just format the HDD. The problem is, it won't let me get to any such screen. Either the file is possibly corrupt, or it restarts.

If you can't access w/Ubuntu, then it's likely that there's a problem with your hard drive.
Each use of the hard drive increases the chance that you won't recover anything. I'd strongly suggest looking into professional data recovery services - but be aware that they are very, very expensive!

Hi there.I'm running Windows XP SP2 on a Celeron 2.80GHz with 504mb RAM. Hey folks

I have a Dell Dimension 4550 and it is probably 5 years old. It's been having problems lately, but it has been working. I got on it today to see if any of my torrents had finished downloading and found out that one had. So, I right clicked it and tried to do a virus check; nothing happened and it went to hourglass. I got impatient and tried to shutdown, but it wouldn't do anything. So, I unplugged it from the wall and tried to reboot it. After the Windows XP logo went away, the computer made a sound like it was shutting off again, and a blue screen came up that reads as follows:

"STOP: c0000221 {Bad Image Checksum}
The image version.dll is possibly corrupt. The header checksum does not match the computed checksum."

After trying to reboot it a few more times and failing and cursing a lot, I decided I might as well do a reformat since it's been awhile and the problem may be a virus. Then I remembered my biggest problem: I have a CD-ROM and a CD-RW, and the CD-ROM stopped working and responding a year ago. I could use the CD-RW to boot my Windows XP disc in, but when I go to the boot sequence menu, it only shows my hard drive, floppy drive, and CD-ROM. So I can't select my CD-RW drive to boot from. The drive works fine, but is not listed there?

I'm not new to computers, but if anyone has any ideas, if you could explain step-by-step what to do, that would be fantastic. I appreciate it everyone

By "corrupt" do you mean infected? As that sounds like a possibility.
R U running XP? If so, with SP2? If so, fully patched?
Do you run a firewall"
Active anti virus?
Anti spy/malware?

And if so, do you run scans regularly?

Can you remember the precise download after which all this started?

Hello,

I've been having some frustrating issues with Windows Explorer (on Windows 7), and I've pinpointed the cause to one stubborn wmv file on my external hard drive. Whenever Explorer accesses the location of this wmv file (unfortunately the root directory), the green bar at the top starts slowly running, presumably trying to load the thumbnail of that wmv file. This wreaks havoc everywhere, as any other folders I navigate to then have missing thumbnails that will not load... and when I go to "Computer", it's completely empty and the green bar atop runs indefinitely, but never makes any progress... only heating my computer frustratingly. Furthermore, when I restart explorer, the error "the remove procedure call failed" shows. Logging off or pressing Ctrl+N in explorer have provided temporary solutions so far.

When I try to delete, move, or rename this wmv file, Explorer just freezes altogether. Is this file corrupt? What can I do about this file? I'd preferably like to save somewhere else before deleting it.

So I recently had a case of hard drive failure in which basically nothing of value was recovered in the original directory structure, however the drive was full of .chk files from a chkdsk run. I ran a quick script to change all of the extensions to .jpg, and most of the files were in fact intact.

Many of the files, however, are either corrupt, or are simply not JPEG files, and so will not open with the .jpg extension. Is there any batch renaming application that can analyze files by their header data, and append the appropriate extension automatically for the most commonly used filetypes?

A:Batch file extension processing by file header?

Usually file recovery software does that (before the files are recovered as chk files). I don't know of any app that will do what you said though. But if you don't have too many files, use a hex editor to open them and rename accordingly. I use winhex (just for viewing though), but any other will do. Here's a few strings that may help:
JFIF .jpg
RIFF AVI LIST .avi
PNG .png
MZ .dll or .exe (at least 32-bit - dunno how they are for 64-bit or 16-bit executables)
moov somewhere in the file .mov (may not be at the beginning)
GIF89a .gif
ftyp .mp4
**\rtf1 .rtf
000001BA21000100 (in hex) .mpg (MPEG-1 at least - don't have MPEG-2 samples to test ATM)

Hi guys don't really know where to put this because I don't know what is causing it.  I was infected with cryptolocker and the 4 files can still be found in just about every folder on the computer however the infection is no longer active?  I don't get the messages anymore when I reboot/log in.

After the infection was removed everything seemed fine.  That was a couple months ago. Last night I needed a picture and I went back to get it and found out all my thumbnails are gone (they show the place holder and file name but not the picture) and the pics wont open on an entire hard drive and scattered throughout the computer.  (I localize most pics on one drive) The video files are ok though.  I have been searching the web and downloaded data repair (stellarphoenix).  Tried photo shop because I read that it would open files with bad headers.  Tried gimp.  Tried my linux box.  When I look on the network linux cannot even see the files.  Tried the following command at C: assoc .jpeg=jpegfile and get access denied error occurred while processing jpeg.

In some folders half the files are there and half are not.  I originally noticed when I clicked on the image and got this message.  "windows photo viewer can't open this picture because the file appears to be damaged, corrupted or is too large.

This is an odd thing I've encountered just recently and I cannot find a root cause for the problem. I have a program that essentially takes a document and moves it to another location (with several bells and whistles).

This program has run flawlessly over the past couple months, but now it seems to be causing the files to be locked. It says: "Access denied. Contact your administrator.". The original submitter can open the file but nobody else

The file is moving from an unknown location (wherever the end user has the file) and moving it to a network shared drive. Could the file.move cause this? Here's the code snippit

(for corporate purposes I replaced the path with {servername})

Code:

var newDirectory = "\\\\{Servername}\\" + txtDocName.Text + "\\"+cbDocType.Text;
Directory.CreateDirectory(newDirectory ); //Create the directory
try
{
File.Move(_path, newDirectory +"\\"+ txtFilename.Text); //Move the file to the new directory
_path = dc + "\\" + txtFilename.Text; //Update new path global
Sendmail(); //Send the confirmation email
}

Here are my theories and what I've done to try to solve them
The file is encrypted before the transfer
I had the file resaved by the author. This was still locked

The file carried over permissions from the local drive
I had the file resaved by the author then moved using windows explorer to the parent folder. This unlocked it.

The file was o... Read more

Did you change any code, files or settings before this started happening ? Try using Unlocker to find out what is causing the locking, which will make it a lot easier to diagnose the problem.

I want to wipe out my hard drive. But I have all kinds of music on it but nowhere to back it up to since I have 15GB of music.
So if I put all of those songs into a zip file and then changed the zip file to a text document, because the zip file would be 15Gb but a text document would be 800KB. So I would be able to email the text document to myself and when I reinstall my OS I can download it from my email and then rename it to .zip and extract them all.
Would this work?
If I did it to videos too would that work as well?

A:[SOLVED] If I make a zip file and change it to a text file would that corrupt its con

There is no way a 15gb zip file be turned to 800kb of data. Plus corruption might occur. Best solution is to purchase a external hard drive External Hard Drives - Newegg.com which is inexpensive you can get one from around 80 bucks. Backup all your music on that as is as is just by copying and pasting it to the external hard drive.

hi experts,

word 2010. the user claims to have worked on the file for a long duration and been saving regularly. came back to office and tried opening the file, wehrein user claims the file is corrupt and cant open it anymore. looking at file properties, it is only 4kb whereas the actualy file user worked on was more than 3 mb. any thing to try to fix it. have tried open and repair, tried changing the extension, searched PC for .asd and .wbk and tmp files which could have helped. tried few of the recovery tools ( recuva etc which are freeware , but dont findanything worthwhile with the tools.

have also tried looking manually in locations where there was possibility of seeing the auto recover files. user has already tried recover unsaved document option. thee is no shadow copy enabled on the machine, hence no chance of reverting to previous versions of documents.

any advice i shighly appreciated.

A:word file lost all data and file gone corrupt

howdy and welcome. The file could have become corrupted, especially if this cycle of saving over it has been going on for a bit. Do they have a backup of it? If not, may be time to recreate it. Try opening in wordpad or notepad, as well.

I'm sort of at my wits end with trying to solve this problem on my own, so any help would be much appreciated. Recently, I downloaded about 50 or so new songs via limewire. I have never had a problem with this before, and if a file does not play when I download it, I immediately delete it. I played my new music in itunes and had no problems. The next time I went to use my ipod however, a bunch of these songs were distorted (sorry I don't know how to explain it better...try to imagine listening to a song and then getting really loud speaker feedback, or as if the song was "skipping" and making an obnoxious noise while doing so).

The distortion is only present in selected songs from the 50 I downloaded, all of the other 3000+songs on my ipod are uneffected. I tired deleting these files off my computer and re-downloading, didn't work. I tried re-formatting the ipod, didn't work.

My next step was software that checks files for problems and repairs them, I downloaded MP3 Checker, which only found 2 bad files and I deleted them. Still the same problem with the other files.

Next I downloaded MP3Val which scanned all my music for file integrity and fixed all of the files that had any problems. Still this doesnt work.

So finally I go to the apple store and make them give me a new ipod (I have the extended warrenty).

Got the new ipod today...same problem.

So i'm left with music that plays perfect in itunes, several programs saying that I have ... Read more

Hello everyone don't know on what topic I should post this but I think Windows is almost right.

So for some weeks ago I migrated some files from my SAN to my NAS and then back to another SAN. After this was done I notice some really strange bit-errors by generating MD5 checksums on random files.
After this I did some digging and come up with this, that smaller files seems just fine but when it comes to bigger files example ISO files over 7 GB the error seems more recurrent.

Do anyone have a good explanation on what can cause this, I transferred the files with FTP so I believe that the TCP checksum should take care of errors just like this and probably many other build-in features.

Any input is good input
Thanks.

A:Strange error on file transfer checksum

Hi sebhol,

In practice, errors can happen due to how FTP is used (configuration settings, especially if command line) and errors could occur if there was a faulty piece of hardware somewhere, such as with memory.

This type of thing is unlikely, but does happen.

I am running windows XP Pro. Service pk3. I recently moved a large group of file from my windows media computer to my file server, 30gig worth of data. The image for the icon does not match what is in the file but the file name is correct and all the data is present. Is there a way to repair the image used for the icons, this affected about 50% of the files that I transferd.

A:Icon Image Does Not Match File

You can do so by going to Folder Options then File Types tab and look for the extension of the filename like jpg or png and change it to what you use to view images.

Years ago I had a subscription to MSDN. During which time I downloaded

different Micsosoft products iso files & burned to a cd. I have a list of products

keys and several cd's My problem is when I load an msdn iso Win 7, it gets to the enter Product key and then tells

me the product key I entered is not for this iso.
My notes are poor,as the product key code list simply indicates Win 7 Ultimate.  My cd's have 32 bit and 64 bit noted on the cd but nothing else.
Is there a way to match my product keys to the correct iso disk?  For the most part all the iso's seem to have the same file name so the info on the various disks looks the same.  I wrote on the disk K-2012-1 and it;s from 5-7-2009 MSDN file.
Evidently the iso has multiple versions as I also annotated Win 7 Ultimate ;"contained"
Anyway I'm tryijng to match my iso files up with the proper product key.  Is there a valid method to accomplish this vrs trial and error?
I remember downloading iso file months apart figuring the products would work. Now it seems the products keys are only good for the exact iso downloaded, I should have kept better notes.
thanks g

I have a series of jpg.pictures that wont open with Irfanview, everytime I try, I get a message "cant read file header unknown file format". I can see the thumbnail of the picture on the bottom left when I click on the pictures. It just happens on this series of pictures.

I can open the pictures with PSE7 without any problems. I tried to use the "save as" after opening them with PSE7, to see if that would fix the header problem. That didn't work.

Whats preventing me from opening them with Irfanview and how can I fix them so they will open with Irfanview.

A:Can't read file header

In Photoshop, are you sure that you saved as jpg, and not something else like jpeg2000, or psd.

Could you upload an example as an attachment?

When I try to sync music from windows media player to my phone,I get an error message on some songs that says File header too large. Does anyone know what I can do to correct this so the songs will play. I download mp3s from napster & my phone is a Blackjack2.

A:file header too large

Sometimes...when I edit a music file or convert the format...a given player/program may refer it as "headerless PCM data" and I interpret this as a way of saying "I cannot read this file."

What I do then is use another program to change the tag and filename...and it can be read.

In your case, you might take a look at those two things...and see if you can shorten the filename via a simple change. Some music that is downloaded via the Internet comes with rather long names and that may be problem.

Louis

This happened again today...and I was incorrect about the filename/tags. The problem is the file format and it seems to be a quirky one. Even though some files are encoded as .mp3 and will play in certain/all players...when I use Cool Edit 2K, it can't read some of them. So I simply use Real Player to "convert" the files to my custom mp3 format (192) and CE2K can now read/play/edit said files.

Yo!

This happened, like, six months ago so I don't know why I haven't seeked more information until now.
An IRC channel that I regularly visit that is full of techies had a URL in its topic, which pointed to a .txt file. I clicked it and, surprisingly, found a picture downloading into IE. While this was rather harmless, I was scared by this deception of what files were, and so I asked the techies about this in the channel. They ignored me, as usual, but what information I could get from them went something along the lines of:

1) Contrary to my former belief, file extensions are NOT universal, just another invention of Microsoft.

2) The real information that tells you what a file actually is is not its extension, but its header information.

I have limited knowledge about headers, so I ask:

1) Could someone please give me the full story on file extensions and headers?

2) Should I be worried about the potential security risk? Could the next .txt file I download actually be an .exe?

Hello I have about 1400 images.

I have a 2 prong issue here.

I am trying to create a catalog hyperlink catalog then ad comment with the file image.

1st Prong
I want to use an if change formula or conditional formatting or something to that effect so that the main images in Column A will reference Column B then transpose that data that falls in-between the changes across a row.

2nd Prong

I will like to automate this a process that allows me to take all the images in bulk and massively

Hyperlink Images to the file names
Insert Images into a cell that would at an adjusted size
Insert Images into a comment
I am not sure how to install a VBA so if you could help me with that it would be great

ANY HELP would be great i really need to get this project done ASAP!! I am drowning in this project.

I have enclosed an excel file that shows what i have done so far
to what i would like the end result to be.
