Q: "Your PC may need updates for the Thunderbolt 3 port to function properly" popup on display connect

P50 / Windows 10 I get this message every time I dock the computer or plug in an external HDMI display. The Thunderbolt software is version 16.1.47.275 which looks like the latest available. Any way to suppress this? Very annoying when presenting.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey,

I am on a laptop with a gtx 765m. I am trying to connect a thunderbolt port to a display port monitor. My understanding is that thunderbolt is backwards compatible with display port. But, for the life of me I can not get it to work.

I am using a minidisplay port -> display port cord.

I have ended up hooking the monitor up with an hdmi cord for now. FYI the monitor is a 2560x1440 monitor if that matters.

Thanks,

A:Thunderbolt to display port monitor. GTX 765m

Do you know for sure the video is ported through the Thunderbolt connector?

Any chance we could get your computer model number?

I have a P1 GEN2 OLED. While the internet is flooded with complaints of the OLED screen itself, the thunderbolt 3 port of my P1 GEN2 magically stopped working for no reason.  I have been using the laptop with an external display ever since I got the laptop. All went well. Suddenly from yesterday, the external display starts turning into a blue sreen with "NO SIGNAL" shown on it.  I had a windows cumulcative update (KB4532693) and windows security update (KB4524244) yesterday and I suspected that the update might be the culprit. I rolled back the OS. No change. Still NO SIGNAL.  I searched this Forum. Played with Thunderbold 3 menu in the Bios. Everything was enabled and every single option of "security level" was tried. Still NO SIGNAL.  I checked Intel Mangaement Engine software. It is already the latest version. Reinstalled it. Still NO SIGNAL.  I checked Nvidia driver. Latest version already.  In sum, the problem is: the thunderbolt port is still able to power the extenal display but just simply does not pass signal to the external display. HDMI port, however, still passes signal if use an HDMI cable.  I want to give it a shot here to see if anyone has experienced similar issues and how they sovled the problem before I call Lenovo technical support, the staff of which does not seem to know more than some people here on this Forum.

I would like to first say thank you for any assistance that can be provided.I have a refurbished T420 Business Class that I have recently purchased.  It has the Display Port and I use an adapter to go from it to HDMI.  I use a projector during one class I instruct and a television during the other.Connecting the HDMI cable to the adapter there seems to be some issues.  The screen resolution changes on the notebook but nothing automatically displays through the projector or the television.  Using the function+F8 does nothing; however, the Windows Key+P will bring up the options but they do not seem to be configured properly.  No matter which one I pick I cannot get a dual display on the monitor and the output device.  Every notebook I?ve had in recent years automatically picked up on the display and went to the dual mode.  I ordered this one with the NVIDA NVS4200M Graphics Card and I?m beginning to think I screwed up.  I have updated the driver and still no better results.System- Windows 10 Pro 64-bitI5-2520M CPU @ 2.50GHz8GB RamIntel(R) HD Graphics 3000Driver Date 5/27/2015Driver Version 9.17.10.4229NVIDA NVS4200MDriver Date 10/04/16Driver Version 369.49

Hi,
I myself own an XPS 15 9550 and noticed that I was not getting the full Thunderbolt 3 speedover it's Thunderbolt 3 port. I expected speeds around 2700MB/s, because of the overhead withthe theoretical gross speed of 3870MB/s, but I only ever got 1400MB/s out of it.
I did some digging and found out that none of the XPS notebooks with Thunderbolt 3 are evenable to achieve the full TB3 speeds, because they are only connected with two PCI Express lanes (x2.3).You can read more about this on the following links:Dell Subreddit PostChipset Digging on Forum

Thunderbolt 3 and the promised speeds were the MAIN REASON I even bought this notebook.I feel very cheated here.

My daughter has a M91P model 7052-A9G serial number S4VEK82 running Windows XP SP3 for compatibility with legacy software.  Her existing monitor is connected via VGA and she now wishes to use a Dell U2715H for better definition. When she connects the new monitor to the display port on the M91P it is not recognised by the system and the video is still only active on the VGA port. She is 80 miles from me and I support her using Team Viewer which enabled me to switch the desktop display properties to digital but still no output on the Dell so I changed it back to VGA so that she could work. The new monitor and display port cable has been tested on a friend's computer where it worked OK. Has anybody met this before and how did you resolve it. Many thanks Firkle

A:M91P will not connect to a Dell U2715H monitor via the Display Port

When I Googled for your problem, I found this on the Dell forum.  The built-in Intel graphics on M91p has DP 1.1:

RE: U2515H - "no signal coming from your computer"

This happened to me when I enabled DP 1.2 option in the menu.
If that is the case, you do not have a DP 1.2 compatible hardware and software/OS. (perhaps if you are using a linux machine)

When your monitor tells no signal... push a menu button for about 10 seconds. It will show you other input sources, keep pushing. Then it will bring a menu to disable DP 1.2. Disable it. Restart the computer.
Hope this helps

I'm using a Dell U3415W monitor. My video card is AMD Radeon RX480. The monitor is connected via DisplayPort to my computer. The monitor is connected via HDMI to my work laptop. When I want to switch over to HDMI, it acts as if I shut off the monitor on the Displayport shifting everything over to my secondary monitor. It causes no problem, but drives me nuts because when I switch back over to DIsplayPort, I have to move my open programs around again. Is there any simple way to make this stop? If I don't use DisplayPort, and instead use HDMI/DVI combination, the behavior described does not happen. I'm guessing that is just the way it is, but I'm hoping there is an easy way to make it stop.

I have 3 monitors connected to an AMD HD5770 graphics card. Two monitors connect via HDMI, and the third through a Sapphire Active DisplayPort->DVI adaptor. Things have been working fine for years, but recently I started sleeping my computer when I am not using it during the day, as opposed to my previous habit of leaving it on all day and then shutting down at night, and a couple of days after starting this new habit, I received a 'Display Port Link Failure' message:

"The system has detected a link failure and cannot set the requested resolution and refresh rate on your DisplayPort display. Your display might not support the requested resolution or there may be an issue with the cable connecting the display to your computer"

Now, even upon resuming my normal habit of leaving the computer on and shutting down, the monitor will work sometimes but randomly stop other times.

How can I either fix the issues with sleep, which I would prefer since I want to save energy (a money issue rather than believing my actions make any difference to the environment), or if there is a problem somewhere, determine if it is the graphics card or the adaptor that needs replacing.?

A:Display Port Link Failure, Active Display Port->DVI

It could be the hardware is starting to give out. Not all problems are software related. Going to be hard to nail down if you don't have another cable. Could be the cable or the port.

Any way to test with a straight cable, not the adapter cable?

Hi, I think I'm having some problem with my Yoga 920's thunderbolt port. I bought a StarTech thunderbolt 3 dock. When I first time plug in the dock, everything works fine the thunderbolt software pops up and ask me the authorized the new dock. And I click always trust this device. Then the windows crushed with a blue screen and a QR code on it. After 920 restarted, and I tried the dock again, it was identified as USB 3.1 hub but no USB connection. And when I tried to open the thunderbolt software, it shows me the following warning.I tried to update the driver, but the installer said it was all ready. And then I downloaded HWINFO64 to check, I could not find the thunderbolt 3 controller under the PCI-Express X4 BUS. Is that means my thunderbolt 3 port is broken? What should I do with this? Btw, when I plug in the thunderbolt 3 dock, the powersupply is also connected, and the dock also provide the power, two power supply input at the same time, will that be a reason of the crash which also burn the thunderbolt 3 controller? Due to tb3 FW can be updated normally, I guess there has something wrong with PD controller or EC, do I need a hardware repairation for current situation? I'm sorry that the screenshot is in Chinese, please pay attention to the version for software and NVM firmware, they are the lastest version.

I'm thinking of getting a P70, I see it has 4 USB 3 ports and 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports.  My questions are: 1: Is each of the USB 3 ports connected to their own controller so that each port is capable of it's maximum bandwidth?  Or are all four ports connected to the same controller so that the data bandwidth is divided among the four ports? 2: Similar Thunderbolt 3 port question.  Is each of the two Thunderbolt 3 ports connected to it's own controller?  Or is the bandwidth shared between the two ports? I'm planning on using the USB 3 ports (maybe Thunderbolt 3 also) with a high end, high data rate USB 3 camera that, according to the specs, can use up 95% of the USB 3 bandwidth.  If I were to use two cameras at the same time, it would not work if all four ports are connected to the same controller/bus and sharing the bandwidth.  I have read that laptops usually share all USB ports on the same controller.  I'm hopeing it will be different with the P70, being a "professional" workstation class product. Thanks

I'm using the thunderbolt port for a single connection to a Dell usb-c dock (power in, KVM out, speakers, network, etc.).  The 720 charges real slow and the battery status message (in Lenovo Settings app) states that the "AC adapter cannot provide enough power for normal operation of your computer".  The Dell usb-c docks are powered with a 180w power supply that provides 60w of power to the computer, which is more than the 45w power supply that comes with the 720.  I have tried 3 different Dell docks, including a Dell thunderbolt 3 dock with a 240w power supply. I have to believe this is an issue with the Thunderbolt 3 driver on the 720 or something BIOS related.  BTW, the 720 has Windows 10 pro loaded (updated from the home version loaded by default) and Bitlocker enabled.  Don't think these changes have anything to do with the issue. I purchased Lenovo's thinkpad usb-c dock (which states that it's universal) and hope it charges the 720.

Hi everyone, I have a Thinkpad p52s hooked up to a newly bought ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Dock Gen 2 135W (40AN0135US). I recently also purched a second external monitor, and want to operate them through the dock now (with laptop closed)Both monitors are Dell U2518D, and they have a resolution of 2560 x 1440. However, the moment I plug in both monitors, one will only be available at a resolution of 1920 x 1080. What I've tried so far:updated Windows 10updated all p52s driversswitched cables from HDMI to mDPtried all four monitor plugs in the docktried another U2518D monitor (we have more at the office)My laptop screen is only HD so I can't compare it, but when I open the lid I simply have one more HD screen To no avail. One of the screens will always go back to a generic HD display with 30Hz. I'm no expert but I was convinced this shouldn't be a problem with the laptop and the dock? I have the Intel UHD Graphics 620 driver version 26.20.100.6951 installed. I don't know why nVidia does not have any settings about the monitors but again, I'm no expert, and I didn't find anyone else having the same problem. I attached screenshot to show how this monitor is being displayed.

Does anyone know how many PCIexpresslanes are allocated to the thunderbolt 3 port on the Yoga 730 15".  I have gotten in touch with lenovo technical support, but they had no idea. I did see where the 720 is thought to have 2 lanes, but I am not sure if that is the same on the 730. Thanks for any info!

Hi,I am trying to hook 2 Dell U2417H monitors via the W541 Thunderbolt/mDP port. I am chaining the 2nd monitor from the 1st using its DP output port. The MST is only enabled on the first monitor as instructed. My laptop has integrated NVIDIA K1100M video card which is capable of daisy chaining.https://www.nvidia.com/content/PDF/line_card/6660-nv-prographicssolutions-linecard-july13-final-lr.p... I cannot extend to the 2nd monitor as it does not detect any signal. I know that my 2nd monitor do work. There seem to be no option to turn on/off MST from my laptop. I don't see where the problem can be. Can someone help? Thanks

Hi, I have the Dell XPS 2720 (2013) and I have a thunderbolt port in the back of the computer that worked great for my thunderbolt external drive when I had windows 8.1 installed but now since I installed Windows 10. The external drive is not recognize by the thunderbolt port.
I don't know how to fix this or if there is no current driver out set to fix this but I'm sure other people are having the same problem.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

A:Dell XPS 27 Thunderbolt Port not recognize by Windows 10

Hi,
I've got the same problem.
But when i updated to Windows 10 my WD My Passport RAID-0 Thunderbold-Drive worked fairly fine (crashed some times, wasn't recogniced every time, very slow) but suddenly it stoped working and even my Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt will not be recognised.
