Linksys Configuration Question.

Q: Linksys Configuration Question.

Hello everyone,

I recently bought a Linksys wireless router so that I can finally get wifi in my home. The computer I'm on now is going to "host" the router. I use verizon dsl, and a dsl modem. I correctly plugged the Linksys in all of it's intended ports, but Windows Vista doesn't pick it up. I "googled" around a good bit for the solution. I basically found out that the CD with the Linksys is useless, and I have to allow my modem to connect itself and the linksys at the same time manually (configuring). To do this, apparently, I have to get my gateway address (which would be 192.168.1.1), and type that into my web browser (being firefox). The Westell site comes up with my connection info. - I "log in" with "admin" "admin" as the user and pass. Now I have the administration to change my modem and connection settings, WHAT SHOULD I DO FROM HERE?

Thank you all very much,
FenderGuy2112

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Linksys Configuration Question.

That would be unusual that your LinkSys disk is useless, because most will get you started in VISTA as well as WXP.
There are updates at the LinkSys site for each operating system. You will benefit from going to the LinkSys Support site, while knowing your model number and version number, then download and print the Quick Install Guide, the long User Guide in PDF format, and the latest drivers... which may be about 36 MB or more.
Then follow the instructions in the quick install or user guide after you install the latest driver... you are on the right track... you may want to talk to tech support of your high speed connection to see what they require, codes wise... as they vary from location to location.

I need to set up three user accounts on two computers the accounts on each computer is going to be monitored.
Each user will be assigned access for certain folder or files and certain applications, like internet explorer.
And all usb ports and dvd drive will be blocked. Only the admin will be allow to have full access.

So i need to do something that allow ( managers) to monitor employees activity on the system during working hours.

On one pc is windows xp pro on the other os windows 7 home premium.

Any idea how i can acomplish this task?

I.was thinking of group policy on both computers but on home premium there is not group policy.

Also the users will be using almost all the same programs and files just the with different information.

Thank you in advance.

But for Windows 7 Home Premium you will not have the
Local Security Policy so you may need to upgrade to Windows 7 Pro for that.

This is easier to control with a server like Windows Server 2003 or 2008.

I have a cable modem and its been working great but I recently purchased a Linksys cable router and I cannot get it to work access the internet. I have a PC thats my main computer and an old mac that I use for the kids and I am trying to hook both of them up. The router is pushing out IP addies for both the PC and Mac but I cannot figure out why its not hooking up through the modem. I went through the instructions and everything is set right but its not working.

Any suggestions would be helpful at this point.

My wireless linksys router is acting up on me again and i'm not sure how to handle this. I copied the error messages exactly as displayed. Sometimes the problem stops after i wait 30min or so but this is happening allot more frequently now.

I started getting these errors in this order

window failed to find domain name prpblems with DNS server
windows confirmed that ''primary DNS server'' is currently online, but is not responding to connection attempts at this time.

This usually means that a firewall is running somewhere between the two computers and is blocking ''domain''. windows has confirmed that windows firewall on this computer is correctly configured to allow this connection. However, a remote firewall might be blocking your connection.

The following policiy might need to be adjusted to allow windows to connect:

Policy provider: windows firewall firewall
filter name: query user

if the policy provider identified is windows firewall ,click for information about adjusting windows firewall settings. If a differnt policy provider has been identified, check the provider's documentation on how to adjust the policy settings.

Reset the network adaptor ''wireless network connection''
resetting the adaptors can sometimes resolve an intermittent problem.

A:Linksys router configuration issues

When Windows gives messages like that there are only two choices:

a. laugh; or

b. cry.

The problem goes away sometimes after 30 minutes with you doing nothing, right? Can you still access the router (ping it, or access its config or status pages)? Have you tried a reset or power cycle of the router? If so, does that clear the problem?

If it is a router problem about all you can do is make sure you have the latest firmware; then reset it to factory default settings and reconfigure it. Next step after that is to replace it.

Alright, heres the setup:

(1) DSL Modem
(1) WRT54G Router
(1) Desktop WinXP Pro SP2 machine, hardwired to router
(2) WinXP Pro SP2 laptops, wireless - one with built-in wireless, one with a Linksys WPC11 Instant Wireless Network Adapter, version 3.
(1) WinXP Media Center SP2 laptop, wireless
(1) Ubuntu Personal Edition - "Feisty Fawn" 7.04 laptop, wireless

The router has been set up to use WPA-TKIP encryption on channel 6 with an always-on PPPoE connection; it also has an IP of http://192.168.2.1 to avoid an IP conflict with the DSL Modem. DHCP Server is enabled with default settings, MAC Address Clone is disabled, and Operating Mode is set to Gateway. Access is set to allow both B and G, as one of the WinXP Pro laptops is an older model Toshiba that only recognizes the B protocol (that's the one with the WPC11 card).

Here's the problem:

Initially, the setup works flawlessly. All computers are able to see the SSID, connect to the network, and connect to the internet. The connection is fine, doesn't slow down, and is overall pretty healthy. All computers are able to access http://192.168.2.1, and are prompted with the username/password prompt, can change settings, port forwarding, etc.

Now, wait a few days. Usually about a week.

First, the Ubuntu laptop starts to get spotty with it's connection to the internet. After about 10 minutes, the connection to the network starts to fail. Sometimes it will see the SSID, sometimes it won't - and ... Read more

A:Linksys WRT45G > Unable to access router configuration, whole network degrades

I'd first upgrade to the latest firmware, and reset to factory defaults and reconfigure. If that fails, I'd have to suspect an issue with the router.

Many times heavy use of P2P does this to SOHO routers, something to consider.

Ok, I have Windstream DSL that connects through a Siemens 4200 modem that goes into my linksys wrt54g wireless router. So how exactly do I access the modem, if when I type in 192.168.1.1 goes to the router. How can I access the modem to port foward? The only current way I can get to access settings on my modem is to go to Windstream.net and go to configurations in the top right. From there I can access the modem. Is there any way to port foward with this modem?

Is it possible to use a switch with the WET54G so I can hook it up to my tivo and my comp and have those both use the WET54G for the wireless connection to my router on the other side of the house?

I would like to keep everything Linksys...would it be a switch I am looking for or something else...and would this even work...I do not see why it wouldn't...

OK ... I'm sure this might have been asked, but i'll try to make it quick..

I have a Linksys WRT54G (ver. 6) and occasionally, it drops connection(common) but it's not getting any signal from my cable modem. So no computer in the house (wired or wireless) can get an internet connection..

The cable modem is fine, as if I plug a PC directly to the cable modem, I can get on the internet, so It has to be something with the Router. This is my 2nd Linksys router. I would try a different router, but I recently setup a WAP54G to bridge a wired network I have in a different location of my home, and i am unsure if i go with a different brand router that my WAP54G will function with say a D-Link or Netgear Router....

I tried updating the Firmware, but no such luck with this..
It happens like once a week or so.

Any suggestions?!

Thanks in Advance...

Alright, my old router died due to a power outage yesterday and i purchased a new one today. I set it all up, and the internet works on the main computer and my laptop. The laptop asked for my WPA-Personal key, but my other computer (about a year and a half old) will not connect, it sais it could be out of range (it's not though). When i went to set up the connection in advanced properties, it only gives the options Disabled and WEP for the WEP/WPA key.. My laptop gives WPA-PSK (the one i'm using) aswell as all the other choices. When I tried putting the key as a normal WEP key it obviously wouldn't work, saying it had to be 5 or 13 ASCII characters, etc. Do I have to make a regular WEP key for my internet to connect, or can I update something on my computer to get it to recognize the WPA-Personal key.

Thank you and sorry for the difficult to understand issue..,
Ross Lepera.

A:Question about a new Linksys Wireless-G Router

The network adapter in your other computer only supports WEP. Unfortunately, this can only be remedied by buying a new wireless card, as the encryption is not software upgradeable.

You'll need to set up your router and your laptop to do WEP, or buy a new wireless card for the other computer so you can do WPA. Wireless networks cannot do WEP and WPA at the same time on the same network.

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I have a BEFVP41 router at work and home. I have successfully set up a VPN between them, and several other tunnels between corporate clients. What I'm interested in is being able to establish a VPN connection when I am at a location that is not currently connected (for example, a client's home). Is there any software that will allow me to make a tunnel to the VPN Router? I know I can use IPSec policies in Windows, but that is a hassle changing the policy every time the WAN IP changes. I don't need the other computers on the client's network to access the VPN, just my laptop.

So I finally replace my DI-624 piece of junk with the WRT54GL and it has been fantastic. No more disconnects through the day!!! Anyway, I have a question about QoS:

I ran a speed test and got my up/down numbers and plugged them into QoS. 6500kbits/s down, 420kbits/s up. Those are 95% of the lowest figures I got running the speed test. Last night I decided to try and max out my upload and play a game, to see how QoS handles the traffic (I setup dst port 27015 as high priority and torrents at lowest priority). I took off the cap of 15kB/s upload in uTorrent and let it go as fast as it can and then fired up team fortress. At first, my ping was 300ms. I then lowered the upload speed of 420kbits/s in QoS to something like 380 and got my ping down to 55ms. No matter how much more I lowered the upload speed, my ping would not go below 55ms. Then I put the cap back on uTorrent and my ping went down to 26ms (what I usually ping on the server). uTorrent was pretty much the only program uploading so I had plenty of free upload speed when the ping went down to 26ms.

My question is, is the ping being twice as slow a result of the extra processing necessary to prioritize traffic when it is maxing out the value you plug into QoS? Thx!

Hi guys, some quick questions about LAN IP configuration:

I have a DSL modem has an ethernet port, and a USB port, to allow for a second computer to connect to the internet. However, I have a netgear 4 port switch LAN/WLAN router, of which I connect one desktop computer to the ethernet port, my laptop using the WLAN, and one computer connected using USB (through modem, not router). Thus, the last computer has a different IP address (assigned by DSL company). My other two computers have IPs assigned by the router, thus, are able to share through Itunes...

...Which leads me to the question: is it possible to configure the ip of my modem-assigned computer to match those of my router's, or vice versa, as I want to allow my Itunes music to be accessible on all three computers. Thanks in advance, and happy thanksgiving.

p.s. I know you're wondering: but you have three more switches on the router, why not use it..well, this last one doesn't have LAN card.

A:ip configuration question

What you should of done is connect all the comptuers to the LAN ports on the router (except the laptop) and share internet connection that way. As far as iTune, you might need to open up the port in the firewall software on your router (check the manual for more details).

Q: "is it possible to configure the ip of my modem-assigned computer to match those of my router's, or vice versa?"
A: No

Network cards are very cheap now, you should use that. Much faster than USB.

This should be simple, but I cannot find details on whether or not this is possible.   What I want (end-state) is a P51 with the 256Gb SSD as the boot drive and the 500Gb spinning drive as the data drive. When I look at the ordering page, I can get both those drives, but there is no way to specify the SSD as the boot drive.  Alternatives are:1. Buy the P51 with just the 500Gb non-SSD, install something like a Samsung 960 EVO 250GB NVMe SSD myself, migrate/reinstall Win10 from the non-SSD to the SSD, and tell the BIOS that the SSD is now the boot drive.Pro - cheaper.Con - more effort and there's always hiccups finding the right drivers.Assumption - the P51 supports the Samsung 960 EVO 250GB NVMe SSD as a boot drive.2. Buy the P51 with just the 256Gb SSD (so it's automatically the boot drive), then buy another 2.5" SSD or non-SSD drive (and the associated caddy kit from Lenovo) and install that.Pro - no reinstall issues.Con - More expensive since I need to buy the larger data drive ($80-$100 and it's free in option 1), plus the Lenovo SSD is about $90 more than option 1. So, can I specify the SSD as the boot drive if I order the P51 with two drives, or do I have to go to alternative 1 or 2? If so, which one is generally recommended? Have I missed something critical? Thanks, ~rick

The download speed is averaging 5,000 - 5,500 Kbps instead of its advertised 10,000 Kbps, regardless of whether I run all 3 computers through the router or if I connect each computer directly to the cable modem and bypass the router.

My ISP(BrightHouse Networks Roadrunner) says the signal to my cable modem is good and that I should be getting the advertised download speed of 10,000 Kbps.

Any comments from anyone?

Hi everybody, my best friend wanted me to format an old Dell laptop for her grandchildren to play some simple games. I was amazed the formatting went so well as someone had put XP on it which made it run as slow as molasses in January.
I managed to find a windows 98 boot disk that still worked and I got windows 98SE on it.
It came with a linksys etherfast 10 100 card that I understand is for networking. I checked pictures of it on the internet to see if something had broken off of it. but they look flat on the end like this one does. Is some kind of adapter needed to use this thing with an rj45 cable cause I see nothing one could plug anything at all into. It is flat on the end. I don't think it is a wireless card but then maybe I am more of an idiot than I think.

It looks exactly like the picture on this page

The review says just plug in your cabling and go. Plug it into what?
HELLLLLLLPPPPPPP... LOL
please.

i have a new computer w/ sp1. it is not online. Id like to be able to get it online now and then to update some software, so i got a little USB wireless access point to use. the problem is that when i try to setup the access point, the CD won't run. After going through hoops w/ linksys, they told me to contact my vendor to "clean my resgistry". well im prety good at computers, and my vendor just sold me a barebones system, so i am wondering what i have to do to my registry to allow it to use the access point?

i got windows to even acknowledge the USB acess point, but it wont say its a linksys, it won't connect to the net, and it wont let me load the setup program on the disc..it just sits there and ignore my double click. any ideas?

If I'm able to, how would I go about running a network hub from an existing port on the router?

I.E. Modem->Router->PCs/Hub->TV/PC

In theory I'm trying to run a wired connection to my room and have the ability to have my PC/TV and any other devices connected to the network physically, my wireless strength isn't exactly good and it's very inconsistent at best when it comes to my internet speeds makes it a bit harder to watch Netflix/Play games.

Any insight would be wonderful!

Question on setting up a linksys e1200 router?

My questions is how to setup without using a Ethernet cable. It suppose to be wifi. I basically want it for my wireless printer. That what I want to set up. I got this at a sale, so it doesn't mater if it works or not.

A:Question on setting up a linksys e1200 router?

With the router plugged in and turned on, do you see an SSID for the router listed in a wifi capable machine? If so, according to the info at this link: Linksys Official Support - Linksys Site USA, the default IP address for the router is 192.168.1.1. The default username and password is “admin”. If you can't connect to the router's login page using that IP address then someone may have changed the default IP address. In that case, or if you don't see a SSID being broadcasted, you'll need to press and hold the Reset button located at the bottom panel for about five (5) seconds then release in order to reset the router to the factory default settings.

Quick question:

Actual installation looks pretty easy... but one probably silly question:

Will Tomato retain all current settings on my router, or will I have to set it up again from scratch? If from scratch, is there an easier way to ensuring I get all my custom configurations, then from going screen to screen and writing it down? I do periodically back up the config - will Tomato recognize that file?

Anything else I should know? This will be a new adventure for me...

Go screen to screen and save screen shots.

I doubt that the new firmware will recognize the old configuration file, but you may as well try.

Linksys WRT330N,
http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Sate...nksys/Common/VisitorWrapper&lid=3266523379B01
Seeing how i am upgrading my Router in my home i want to upgrade my Wired Cables that i use. From what i have seen on dealers websites and ebay is CAt6 Patch cable.

Am i able to use Patch cable for that type of router? Or do i have to use a specific Cable type? I want to maximize my Network Speed and have already began ripping my cat 5 out lol.

A:Linksys WRT330N Network Cable Question

Well, I hate to tell you this, but you won't see any additional speed using CAT6 cable, unless you have really long runs. I've seen installations with 100 foot CAT5 cables running error-free gigabit Ethernet at full speed. It's obviously better to run at least CAT5e (fully certified for gigabit) or better, but for shorter runs, CAT5 works fine.

I picked up the above router today sealed in the factory packaging including the factory shrink wrap. It works as well as my version 4 Linksys BEFSR41 router. It has an Uplink Port as well as the 4 lan ports and the WAN port on it that my Ver 4 does not have. 1st ? is what is the Uplink Port for?

Next ? the Firmware on it is dated 2001, linksys has a firmware update of 8/30/2004 I downloaded the update and tried to run the update from the router but it times out and doesn't update the router. Is there something that I am missing? There doesnt seem to be any instructions about how to do it other than download the file, run the update from the router and point it to the file I downloaded.

I only paid $5 for this router so no big deal just trying to learn something.

A:Solved: Linksys BEFSR41 Ver 2 Router Question.

If you want to use a router as an ethernet switch you have to connect to one of the LAN ports and use a cross-over cable unless a port is auto-sensing. But with an Uplink port you connect to that and use a regular (patch) cable (and don't "waste" a LAN port).

Double check that the firmware you downloaded is for Ver 2. Other than that I have no idea why your attempts to upgrade are not working.

Can McAfee Virusscan enterprise 8.7i schedule a scan without ePolicy Orchestrator?
I finally got it the way I want it except the virusscan console Full Scan and on-demand
scan properties have the schedule button grayed-out. I only see Administrator from the
Windows XP w/ sp3 login screen in safe mode and it has no password. I didn't get ePolicy
Orchestrator with my McAfee install and there is no Hub or Server here so I guess I am
the Administrator. I set up this machine and gave the user I set it up with administrator
privileges, This is XP Home so I have no users and groups button in my Manage MSC.
Am I out of luck, or will I just have to either get ePolicy Orchestrator or run on-demand
scans manually, when I am about to be away from the machine? Thx paj692

A:How to (McAfee configuration question)

I installed McAfee Enterprise 8.7i on my XP Pro (w/ SP3) and ran the setup using "Run
as" Administrator. I had to set up a password for the Administrator account so the
program would run, but with XP Pro, that is no problem. The schedule button is not greyed
out like it is on the XP Home (w/ sp3) system using the exact same installer. I did not
install it using "Run As" the Administrator Account. I'd like to, but the problem is this; I
can't run the installer from safe mode since the installer service is not running and I get
this error when trying to run in regular mode (Run As Administrator). Unable to log on:
Logon failure: user account restriction. Possible reasons are blank password (That's not
it!), logon hour restrictions, (probably not it) or policy restriction has been enforced. Any
body know a work around for this. It would be good to know how to run something in XP
Home as the Administrator without having to go into safe mode. paj692

I have about a dozen HP T5325's in my network.  We have recently put XenApp 7.5 in place.  I am unable to configure a connection on the 5325's.  When I choose Citrix ICA, it wants me to choose Server/Published App, the type of protocol, etc., and the connection won't work with those settings.  Choosing the XenApp connection, it's using the PNAgent, and that's not working either. I have an abundacne of HP T5565's/T510's, and those all work great with Firmware 4.4 or later.  I just choose Citrix, put in the URL, and go, and it works. I did go download the latest firmware for the 5325 and install that, but I already had that, so that didn't help. What I'm wondering is, is it possible to make the 5325's work?  If so, what do I need to download, or how does the connection need to be configured?

Hi Did you ever find a solution to this as we have the same issue? We have tried a few things but doesn't look good! Looks like we will have to replace all of these devices. Thanks

I have a dell XPS 15 l502x which is supported by a 130W adapter. My adapter broke and I had to purchase a new one. well the question is that I received a 180W charger online (obv their mistake). Will it cause any damage to my Laptop as it is of higher watt than the normal one or can I continue to use it as it did not throw up any error when I plugged it in .

Looking forward to a response.
Thanks in Advance.
