Preferred Solution: How to enable laptop keyboard even in tilt mode?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Ack I've had so many problems with this damn thing it's ticking me off!

I recently got a bunch of viruses cleaned off this computer (a month or two ago) and for awhile everything seemed dandy, though it's seen faster days. But I wanted to run a chkdsk to see if it could clean some problems up. maybe get it running a little less sluggish. But when I got into safe mode the CPU fan started running full tilt! No real explanation either, I checked to see if anything was taking up a large amount of CPU and there was nothing! System idle process was almost always at 99%, and only the bare essentials were running. I also notice the CPU runs louder on most games lately even on low def Windows 95 games, performance isn't that badly effected though, it doesn't behave that way when I'm doing normal stuff, in fact right now it's perfectly quiet. I just don't understand why it's doing that in safe mode.

I've scanned my computer (in normal mode) with Avast, ESET, MBAM and Super Anti Spyware with 0 results. In safe mode I've only scanned with ESET so far since I was concerned about leaving it running like that any longer, still no results. I did still run chkdsk before I restarted as well.

Could it be Malware? Or should I just be looking at old hardware gone bad?

Hugh... One of these days, I'm going to reformat all the computers in this house at once I swear...

A:CPU fan running full tilt in safe mode.

Fan bearings go bad...IMO, typical noises emanating from a system are likely to be fan or hard drive related.

Safe mode should have no logical consequence on fan function...are you saying that this perceived increased activity...doesn't ever happen in normal mode?

When I tilt the screen back, my computer sometimes goes into sleep mode, or at least it appears to be in sleep mode (the screen goes blank and the power button flashes).  To get it back on I usually have to press and hold the power button until it completely shuts down, then reboot.  It appears to happen when the hinges get bent in a certain way.  Is there a cable or ribbon that runs across the back of the unit that might be getting pinched?  How can I troubleshoot this and get it fixed?

Regardless of whether I say yes or no, the keyboard and touchpad are disabled. If I rotate the screen around to a "tent" or tablet configuration, the keyboard and touchpad start working. I have installed all updates I could find and tried manually toggling tablet mode but nothing helps. Hi,

Can anyone tell me how to toggle wireless on/off using an external keyboard for the R700 whilst it is on it's docking station?

We only seem to be able to toggle wireless using the built in keyboard (Fn + F8) key.

Also, is there anyway that wireless can be set to off as default at boot up? Is this something that can be done through the BIOS or perhaps by tweaking a registry key?

Grateful for any assistance.

:-)

A:Enable/disable wireless whilst Laptop is docked (External Keyboard)

may seem like a silly question, but why can't you simply use the laptops keyboard????? or is it just a niggly type issue that you'd rather use external one?

unfortunatley the R700 doesnt have a hardware switch for the wireless so its purely mapped to the Fn key which is a toshiba function, so an external k/b is unlikely to be able to replicate it

you can always disable the wireless through W7 network and sharing centre -> change adaptor settings, so few clicks with the mouse or even shortcut it to taskbar/start menu for easy access.

Hi,

I have a VAIO FE11M, which was working fine when I first got it.

I then installed an external keyboard (which works fine), but now the VAIO built-in keyboard is typing in FN mode. For instance, if I try to type an "L", i get a "3" instead, or if I try to type "hello", i get "he336".

I thought this was a driver issue, but I uninstalled the Microsoft Keyboard software I put on the machine when I first connected the external keyboard, and the weird thing is that the external keyboard is still working fine, but the VAIO one isn't.

I've also gone into Control Panel, Keyboards, and tried to look at language settings - but I don't have a "language" tab in there. I've had a quick look in Regional Settings, but all looks ok there too.

Any ideas? It's driving me mad having to keep one finger on the FN key when I want to use the alpha characters on my VAIO keyboard!

Windows key + R > services.msc > "Touch screen keyboard and handwriting panel" > double-click and change it from "Automatic" startup to "Manual".This will mean that when in tablet mode, you will need to click the keyboard icon on the taskbar, when you want it. You can also make a startup script that uses the sensor to stop and enable the service when in laptop/tablet mode. Look into ahk.

Looks like you're gonna stay a virgin, cause that ain't no high-end video card you got there.

Now on to the real topic. I'm not quite sure what you are saying as regards enabling VGA mode. All you need to do is make sure you disable any onboard vga chip in the bios (because you are using an add-on video card), and that's it. Your PC should boot and video should eminate from your card. Pressing F8 during boot simply allows you to select 'safe mode', which is normally used when you are experiencing problems such as misbehaving drivers. You shouldn't need to do this at all normally.

A:Can't enable hibernate mode

Hey there!                      Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community!I understand that you have issues putting your PC in hibernation mode. Difference between sleep mode and hibernation: Sleep ModeSleep mode is a power saving state that is similar to pausing a DVD movie. All actions on the computer are stopped, any open documents and applications are put in memory while the computer goes into a low-power state. The computer technically stays on, but only uses a bit of power. You can quickly resume normal, full-power operation within a few seconds. Sleep mode is basically the same thing as ?Standby? mode.Sleep mode is useful if you want to stop working for a short period of time. The computer doesn?t use much power in Sleep mode, but it does use some.HibernateHibernate mode is very similar to sleep, but instead of saving your open documents and running applications to your RAM, it saves them to your hard disk. This allows your computer to turn off entirely, which means once your computer is in Hibernate mode, it uses zero power. Once the computer is powered back on, it will resume everything where you left off. It just takes a bit longer to resume than sleep mode does (though with an SSD, the difference isn?t as noticeable as it is with traditional hard drives).Use this mode if you won?t be using your lapt... Hi all, I have just read a very enlightening article in PC Magazine concerning SP2 Security Center Spoofing Threat - http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1639276,00.asp The article says, essentially, that the XP Firewall could possibly be spoofed by malicious script which would tell it to "open the door" for an attack. I am probably not doing the article justice so please read it, as well as Microsoft's response.I am running XP Pro on one machine only. I am set as the Administrator and the only user. The article says, in part:"...The one mitigating factor that we found is that to change the WMI, and spoof the Security Center, the script has to be running in Administrator mode. If executed in Windows XP's Limited Mode, it will give an error, and not allow changes. Unfortunately, most home users who will be at risk, run in the default administrator mode."[The question(s) part:] What are the advantages/disadvantages of running XP Pro for a single user in Limited Mode? Where do I go to make the changes?P.S. This is my first foray into the world of BC outside of the infamous Privacy Tools 2004 thread in the Breaking News - Security Forum.

Your question is a good one, Xsara. A part of my present problem is lack of understanding with regards to what I find as a damnable part of winxp pro...the logon feature, and user groups in general. I too use xp pro on one machine only and have found it diffficult to with clarity and foresight manipulate the OS in such a way to accomodate my needs. If you don't mind killin' some time, references to the problems, not the fixes are within this post of mine and links within it:my problems (in particular, the most recent parts of the thread)and this, from a post re: freshly installing windows which kinda sums it up:the questions I had in mind... I've done it a half dozen times (re-installation) and know that variations exist and they do exert influences on the issues of system stability and speed of operation to an extent.Configuring the OS, especially winxp pro can be done well, or not so well. I'm in between with regards to my own experience.I'm convinced, from the very start of it's operation, that winxp is more friendly to a large corporation with multiple PC's in multiple locations with multiple users on each one than it is to the single user who initially wanted the extra security features within the file structures themselves and may have been sorta duped by the thought that it was better to get the most advanced operating system so that preparation for the future was assisted, as well. A:How can I enable USB Support in Safe mode

Your USB controller driver should load normally in Safe Mode. If not look in Device Manager to see if it is detected and in error. If so uninstall it in Dev Mgr, reboot into Safe Mode to see if it loads.

Otherwise install it from the Support Downloads webpage for your model PC, probably contained in chipset.

May I ask why you are working in Safe Mode?

Is this the original corrupt HP bloatware preinstall? If so you should strongly consider doing what most tech enthusiasts do and Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7,

I am fairly computer literate. I am running WinXP on an AMDK7/600mHz machine with plenty of memory and harddrive space. When I added SP2 to WinXP, among some other things the AutoProtect Mode in my NAV 2003 application appears permanently disabled; even though I have gone through all the enabling steps (NAV Options), AutoProtect won't run. I have run a complete NAV scan, both from my application and from the Symantec site. I also regularly run updated versions of SpybotS&D, Pest Patrol (plus the full suite of PP products like MemCheck, Clean, etc), Ad-Aware (6.0 Plus) and HijackThis (1.98.2). I have scoured the Symantec and other KnowledgeBases for details on AutoProtect not running, but I've either tried all the remedies--except uninstalling, then reinstalling NAV--or the suggested remedy does not fit my situation.

As I've discovered, NAV is very difficult to uninstall; the reinstall is likewise difficult, even if it's an Upgrade and NAV detects any remnants of the previous version. I've even had problems upgrading to a brand-new licensed program (such as when I installed NAV 2003). So I've tried to avoid the NAV uninstall/reinstall "solution" 'cause it's seems to be so difficult.

I know how to use Regedit to search/modify the Registry, but I'm reluctant to try anything unless I'm following a very specific checklist from a reliable KnowledgeBase (like Symantec or Microsoft). I know I have at least one Pest ("buried deep in the operating syst... Read more

Hi and welcome to TSF!

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures
below.

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download Index.dat Suite to clean out all the temp folders. Do not run it yet.

Download CWShredder and click on Fix (it will automatically fix anything it finds for you). If it asks if you want to delete a certain random file, choose No and post that filename here.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure
that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer. After we are finished with your log file and verified that it's clean, you may turn it back on and create a new restore point.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up).

Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click

Hello, I am running LenovoX260 with Windows 7, I additional installed the lenovo updatecenter. All drivers are updated according to lenovo7 update center. Symptom: Basically, when the machine boots on battery all keyboard strokes are delayed for roughly 5 seconds or an easy touch of touchpad or trackpoint -- whatever comes first. The machine has not a high load at this time and no keystroke is lost. It is just delayed strongly. To make it more complicate, this symptom disappears until next reboot when I lock the screen with win+l and reunlock the screen with my password. It also disappears when I plugin the powerplug, but it also reappears when I unplug it again on the login screen. Once I relogged/unlocked this effect does not reappear. Booting with power plugged in is fine. Any ideas?

hi all. i have a compag white internet keyboard, older model, and it works fine in bios and any other time, but when trying to hit F8 to enter the windows startup options it doesnt work. ive tried enabling usb legacy device support in bios but it didnt seem to help. this keyboard doesnt need drivers to work, so i dont think its that. and my old keyboard could do it. any ideas??

A:Usb Keyboard Can Not Enter Safe Mode (keyboard Wont Work)
