Error in installing windows 7, installer cant detect hard disk

Q: Error in installing windows 7, installer cant detect hard disk

I messed up whilst installing windows 7 over older windows 7 drive. I formatted the windows 7 drive and again tried to deleted that partition, but that deletion process took around 10-15 minutes, so restarted my system. Now i cannot install any of the windows os or even linux . Please anybody help me out to solve this problem

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Ok here's the deal -

I have had xp for a long time on a custom computer. Recently I contracted a virus (namely the xp antivirus 2012 system virus). I decided to reformat the hard drive, as I do not have the original xp discs, I bought windows 7 (the full version, not upgrade). While trying to install windows 7 and subsequently reformat the hard drive, the installation program can not detect any hard disk whatsoever.

Another problem is that the virus has corrupted my computer to the point where I cannot even load xp. All my computer is currently good for is watching it try to load.

A:Windows didn't detect the USB hard disk ?

Just gonna take a shot in the dark here. On the system where it isn't working, do you have any mapped network drivers? If so, that is probably the issue. Click start, right click My Computer, select Manage. Scroll down and click Disk Management. Do you see your USB drive in there? If you do, then it is probably sharing a drive letter with another mapped drive. Right click your drive and choose Change Drive Letter. When the next screen comes up, click modify and select a new letter not in use. Hope this helps some.

Hi guys,

I will try to explain this as simple as i can.So let's start
I have laptop ASUS N75SF and it is a year old,so i have decided to format.I have two separate hard disks that are the same brand,SeaGate 9500423 AS, each 500 gb capacity. Before i decided to format , one of my hard disks(that is my partition D) started to make strange noises and it was not recognized, but i was using my laptop without problems because my windows was installed on my other hard disk (that is my partition C).So now my question is this :
After i formatted them both i have no clue which one is which ? they are like :
Disk 0 Partition 1 465 gb
Disk 1 Partition 2 465 gb
So how do i choose the one that is better and not having problems to pust my winodows on?
I know that i can buy new one and replace it with the one that is having problems, but right now i have no money to do that .I am student

Thanks in advance

I'm having an issue with my hard drive in terms of dual booting.

I am trying to install a copy of Windows XP/Windows Longhorn onto a 1TB hard drive that was removed from a Western Digital My Book. The first portions of setup complete themselves, but when I try to run Windows from the hard drive, all I get is this:

Verifying DMI Pool Data........
Disk Read Error
Press Ctrl + Alt + el to restart your system

(Yes, I am aware of the missing D... that's exactly how it prints onto the screen.)

Then, I reboot and then I get this:

Verifying DMI Pool Data........

I keep trying to run Setup over and over again, deleting and creating partitions, formating the drive several times, and tried to install from a different hard drive.

What's going on and how can I fix this?

Please note:

I am dual-booting via two separate hard drives. One is from the manufacturer of the computer and the other is from Western Digital.
I have an Acer Aspire T180 that runs Windows 8.1 Preview.
The drive is 1TB.
I specifically have Setup install onto the Western Digital drive.

Hi there
Limitation with MBR is that the MAXIMUM partition size is 2.2 TB (max). Windows won't see a disk bigger than 2.2 TB. The rest of the disk will not be useable !!!!.

You SHOULD be able to install windows 7 on a GPT drive (at least the X-64 version) PROVIDED YOU ENABLE UEFI in the Bios. No UEFI no boot from GPT drive I'm afraid so END OF there.

I'd go out and get an SSD --they are cheap enough now and install your windows and programs on that and now enjoy your FULL 4TB drive too. A 120 GB SSD is actually reasonably cheap now.

Otherwise get a cheapish small HDD and install the OS on that - but seriously an SSD is so much better that once you've used one you'll never want to be without one again.

(If your computer HAS UEFI then you'll be OK provided you enable it in the BIOS... Read more

3. slipstream the appropriate drivers into your XP installation CD (i would recommend nLite)

I have a big problem.
I had a windows 7 system on my laptop, and I tried to install Ubuntu in dual boot. I free some space from windows, then I insert Ubuntu live cd, I went to manual partitioning and no free space where detected. There were a sda4 partition that was about the same space I free before in windows, so I delete the partition and I try to add ubuntu there. Then I press ok to install. The setup of Ubuntu failed, and then Windows didn't start, but shows an error 0xc0000225.
This is what I tried to do:
1) recovery from F11... failed.
2) start prompt from F11.. failed.
3) recovery: Well I insert my windows setup's dvd and I try to recovery, but the recovery failed telling volume damaged.
Then I open the prompt from the live cd of windows:
4) bootrec.exe /Fixmbr: success
5) bootrec.exe /FixBoot: no success.
6) diskpart: CAN'T DETECT C: !!!!!!!!
7) editbcd: no success.
8) BIOS hard disk diagnostics: success.
then I try to setup windows directly: THE SETUP CAN'T DETECT HARD DRIVE.
The strange fact is that with a live CD of Ubuntu I can detect my data files on the hard disk and I can navigate through it. And Ubuntu detect the hard drive also. I try from Ubuntu to use boot-repair and that's the result:

According to the report, you forced the conversion of Windows partitions to Dynamic Disks on "sda" by creating too many partitions. I don't think you are going to be able to fix Windows until you remove the Linux filesystem partitions and convert the Dynamic Disks back to Basic Volumes.

Need advice !!

I have just replaced my 8.4 gb( seagate )hdd with a 40 gb (samsung) hdd. The replacement was due to bad sectors on my old drive.
Now when I installed the new 40 gb drive the computer wouldn't detect it , I did jumper changes on the hdd and finally with a setting I got 32 gb. I have partitioned my hdd equally into c ' and d' respectively.

The manufacturers website gives me information ,about how on some motherboards the hdd doesn't detect more than 32 gb and they have also given a downloadable program with the help of which I can use the full 40 gb.

Now I have installed all my programs and software on my present 32 gb config and to be honest 32 gb is more than enough for my work and I am not in a frame of mind to format and reinstall everything all over again .

Now my question is that , Is there a possibility of some damage or bad sectors creeping into the balance (40 -32 ) 8 gb area which the computer doesn't detect? Since scan disk will only scan the 32 gb capacity and leave the 8 gb unattended.

Kindly elaborate and give me a detailed reply.

Hi all,

I have a seagate 160gb hdd .. 2 years old.. was working perfectly fine till an hour ago.

I suddenly thought my computer was slow .. kinda laggy.. and i also started to hear some voice (weird voice .. like tak-tak-tak .. as if some thing was knocking on one of the components) from inside my cabinet.

So i switched off my comp ..

I restarted .. the sound again came .. very loud and apparent.

I then realised that at the first screen, one of my hard disk (160 gb seagate) was not detected.

I then took it out (of the cabinet) .. this time i made the hdd stand on the floor, attached the power and ide cable .. turned on the comp .. and NOW i realized the sound was coming from this hdd itself. The sound goes like something spinning inside the hdd .. then it would stop .. then again spins .. then again stops .. then again spins, and so on. This (spinning) sound would also continue even when i turn off the comp (although it then gradually decreases and then goes off, and no i'm not talking about the sound fans make). I'm sure i never heard such sound from my hdd.

Nevertheless .. i kept my comp off for like 30 mins .. and then i re-tested it .. and the hard disk still wouldn't detect.

I tested it on my brother's comp .. and it won't work there too.

I then tried to put it as master (jumper) .. but then it would just stick on the first screen (witho... Read more

Sorry, but your drive is dead.

Other than spending a lot of money on data recovery, I don`t think there`s much you can do.

However, it did not work and from then forward, my PC is unable to detect all other external hard disks, I've tried a few. The drives are not even showing on disk management. Is anyone able to solve this mystery for me. BTW this problem only occurred after I installed the above mentioned program.

A:Can't Detect External Hard Disk

Well, what's the program and have you tried removing it?
There are simple ways to format external HDDs so they can be used both on PC and Mac. It would be a good idea to format HDDs you know you'll use on both platforms this way. Instructions are usually included with the drive, at least both my LaCie and WD included them.
Hope this helps,

A:Solved: Can't detect hard disk

We need some specifications and some history.
Is this disk IDE/PATA or SATA?
Is this a new disk out of a box or is it a used disk from another system or is it one that has been there all along and suddenly "lost"?
Have you made any recent hardware changes to the system?
Is this the boot/OS drive or simply a secondary?
What exactly do you see or not see on your screen that indicates the disk is not recognized?
What version of Windows are you running?
If it is a secondary disk, does Windows start and if so, does anything concerning this disk show in Disk Management? (applies to WinXP and 2000)

I've got a problem restoring Win7.

I have 1-year old asus with a 320 seagate disk that has shown "clicks of death" a few times. I got a hitachi 160Gb as a replacement but Win restore will not recognize this disk (To avoid warranty-replies: sending it in for warranty costs more than a new disk and they will probably not find it faulty since the click is there occasionally).

I tried making a backup of c:-only (abt 75Gb, deleted the d:-partition), tried setting the interface to ide instead of ide->ahci, tried using diskpart-clean before restoring but nothing works.

As a bonus the asus-recovery-DVD will copy itself to the HDU, but on reboot (press F9, took me a couple of hours to find that one) it will error "can not open file c:\recovery.dat".

I'm close to installing linux, if it were not for canon not supplying a linux-driver for the scanner.

Is there any solution (besides hoping the seagate won't crash)?

A:Restore does not detect new hard disk

I would try the Hitachi as a stand alone drive to see if you can get the system to recognize it. Load your OS on it to verify it boots properly. Once this has been verified to be good then place it back in the second drive position and plug the Seagate back in and reboot. If the Hitachi is not recognized at this point it is not willing to play well with the Seagate in the Drive 0 position. I don't know is you have a Drive 0 with a Drive 1 as Slave or both drives are Masters, i.e. Drive 0 Master with no slave and Drive 1 Master with no slave.

Help would be appreciated, thanks!

A:Random Blue screens after installing windows 7 and new hard disk

You have supplied a lot of crash dumps, but not some other necessary information as per the BSOD posting instructions.

Anyway, checked the crash dumps of today only. Three different bugchecks, but it is giving a chance of three alternatives (collectively, not separately).
HDD related
Memory related
Virus infection
► The strongest possibility is a HDD is malfunctioning. Check it physically. It is screwed up properly? Are all the screws utilized and all those are tightly screwed? Are the sata and power cables properly connected? Change the sata cables. Also apply those cables in different ports in the motherboard.

Then plan for a HDD check. Take the HDD manufacturer's disc check tool and test if the HDD is in a good condition.

► Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.

If it start showing errors/red lines, stop testing. A single error is enough to determine that something is going bad there.

► Ataport.sys is the staorge controller, but most vulnerable to a special kind of malware called rootkit. Scan the system for possible virus infection with the following programs.

You'll need to preformat the Win7 partition using a 3rd party partitioning manager like Free Partition Wizard CD.

Then try running the Win7 installer from the XP desktop, directing the Custom install to the 2nd partition.

This may solve the driver problem. If not, locate the SATA contoller driver for your model and put it in the Win7 installer on the link at bottom left of the Custom drive maps screen.

I have a HP Probook 4530swith Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. When I turn on the PC the windows does'nt start and give a option of starting windows manually, which does'nt work, and repair windows. Repairing windows with windows 7 CD did not help.

I then decided to reinstall windows 7, but while installing, on the select disk page, it shows a error saying no drives found.

I then performed a Hard Disk Test which resulted in failure saying:
Failure ID : UC7WX0-5NB67S-XD6V5G-60TF03

Please help me Whether what should I do

A:Can't find drives on installing windows 7 & Hard Disk Test Failed

It sounds like the hard-drive has died and you need a new one.

My SATA HD is a Seagate Barracude 120gb NCQ, and my Motherboard is an Asus P4S800DE.

When I try and install XP it tells me that it did not detect a HD. So I tried copying the Sis Raid drivers onto a floppy then pressing F6 to install them during XP setup as was described in the Asus manual. Didn't work. Then I tried flashing my Bios to a newer version that apparantly solved any Sata detection problems. Still no luck.

Can anyone suggest anything?

A:Solved: xp install cannot detect SATA hard disk

please can someone delete this thread?

I have a Thinkpad T470 (20JN) with a 512 Gb NVMe drive  lense20512gmsp34meat2ta. Linux was installed & works well with no problems. But I'm struggling with Windows 10  setup.I could not make its installer recognize NVMe disk. At the same time Hiren's BootCD 15.2 based on Win10 recognizes my disk successfully.I tried to extract drivers from boot.wim using DISM and to add them back to original boot.wim (index:2), but it gave noany positive change. Can you please give me a hint how to make NVMe work ?

I have got Dell OEM Windows 8 64bit dvd. But when I click on Install Now button .. it gives an error

? The product key entered does not match any of the Windows images available for installation. Enter a different product key ?

It is a UEFI motherboard and I know that it should take this product key from the key embedded in BIOS.
I have searched it on internet and found that many people have faced this problem.
