Solved: Belkin HI Speed Wifi G router: Always needs manual DNS change

Q: Solved: Belkin HI Speed Wifi G router: Always needs manual DNS change

Hi ,
I've been having this problem with my Belkin router since day 1 when i got it.( not new, got from buddy's place)
It's Belkin HI Speed Wifi G router, and what's really frustrating is, everytime i connect to it, I need to manually change the DNS address and switch between & in order to get internet access!
Sometimes it even cuts off the internet during a session, without me even disconnecting from the wifi network, where I would again need to switch back and forth to the 2 or 4 ending! It s been months and found no solution ! .. can someone drop me some hints please .. would highly appreciate your help ! thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,

My Belkin N300 wireless router is now experiencing intermittent slow Internet speed. The router is 2 years old and has worked perfectly until last week.

Here are the troubleshooting steps I completed.

Internet speed test when directly plugged into the wireless router and cable modem: 30mbps
Internet speed using laptop wifi: 2 mbps then sometimes works at normal speed
Called ISP and they verified there was a connectivity to cable modem issue. Did a power cycle for modem and router. Then got full 30mbps from cable modem to ISP using direct connect to laptop.
tested other devices such as laptops and tablets, all experiencing intermittent slow speed
when experiencing slow wifi, switched to direct connect ethernet cable to router and got immediate full 30mpbs

So far all my testing is pointing to the Belkin router's wifi connectivity. I will check on the router's firmware since it has never been updated.
I also found a thread online suggesting disabling QOS on the router. But this should not be needed as it was working fine for two years since its purchase.

Any suggestions to what else I can do to resolve this issue?

I have a Belkin wireless router (F5D7230-4), a Buffalo Linkstation 250, and a new Dell Dimension 9100 with XP-home and plenty o' RAM. Everything mentioned is directly cabled together, with only 1 laptop sharing the wireless access.

EVERYTHING is fast--internet, processing, whatever--except transferring files to the Linkstation, which takes forever. 400 megs took 18 hours the other day (!). Furthermore, if I start to transfer a bunch of MP3s, the first 5 or 6 will FLY, but then it just grinds to a crawl. If I'm just browsing the contents of the Linkstation, the speed is fine; playing an MP3 directly from the drive works fine as well. And if I hook the Linkstation directly into my network card, it runs like greased lightning, so I assume it's a router issue.

All firmware is updated. No firewalls on. Protected mode is off. Frame bursting is on. NAT on. UPNP on.

Does anyone have ANY suggestions for me? I couldn't find any other posts that seemed to address my specific issue, and it's driving me nuts...! Thanks in advance!

I need a help to resolve one issue with my Belkin router F7D4402 v1. I have got it recently and configured it without any issue and my internet (ADSL) was up and running. However, later I have noticed that, my internet speed is limited to 1.5 Mbps. whereas; the speed I was getting on my old Linksys WAG200 router was minimum 2.0 Mbps.

I have tried to disable the QoS and other options but no use. But when I enabled the Mac cloning it worked fine. I was getting the speed I subscribed for, but unfortunately, the other devices on my Wi-Fi stopped working. With Mac clone enable, the internet is only available to my PC.

I need the internet on my PC plus all the Wi-Fi devices in my house and along with it my full internet speed, not just 1.5 Mbps.

Can anyone please help to fix the issue?

Thank a lot.

There THe belkin modem/gateway shouldnt limit your speed capabilities. You should be able to find the speed listed inside the modem's status page. To do this..
Click start>run>In run type CMD
In the black window type IPCONFIG and then enter. Note down your default gateway.
Open a browser window and enter the gateway's address into it. Click go
This should take you to your gateways graphical user interface.
Look for a status tab or see if it lists connection speeds on the general page.

Also you can test speeds at different sites. Google search broadband speed test and choose 1 of the millions of sites

I now need to access it to change the settings to suit the satellite, which only has 1 network socket, to do the same job. Ie: act as a wireless access point/router but I am unable to connect to it.
Plugged it into the primary network on my computer then went to which is meant to be its address, but just time out.

A:Problem networking via Belkin ADSL Modem with High Speed Mode Wirelss G Router

USUALLY, you wire the system to the router first and configure the router
to access your ISP. Typically, you use your bowser to access and log-in to the device.
Once that is working, you enable the wireless feature, set the SSID and your security keys.
Now your ready to configure the desktop to use the wireless.

I couldn't find a solution to a big problem I have with this setup:

1st router in my chain is a Thomson from my provider (WiFi is usually off, I only use it because the provider doesn't give me the config data to connect directly without using their router)

2nd router is a TP-Link.

So, when I connect my laptop to the TP-Link via WiFi and use bluetooth headphones watching YT the video will halt several times.
When I connect to the Thomson's WiFi the video runs smoothly and the red bar keeps proceeding to the right much quicker than the realtime video.
I tried this at my office, too. Same problem. The 2nd router in the chain works perfectly when using WiFi as long as you don't use BT with it.
I really don't understand that!

Someone knows this problem?

My Lenovo S430 with Windows 10 shows wifi download speed (Speedtest) at about 50 Mbps when placed 2 meter from the router, but drops to (in best case) between 5 and 10 mbps (and sometimes even lower) when moving to another room approx. 15 meters away (with doors open). Network card is Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 with driver version (2015-04-30). I have tried many configuration changes as adviced in some of the forum articles (e.g. power options, re-install the network card, etc.)We also have a Lenovo E530 with same configuration as mentioned above (also same driver version), but for this machine the speed does not drop below 20 mbps.Do any of you have any advice on what I should try, in order to get at least same speed as the E530 machine has? regards, Dennis

Hi guys - hoping some of you can help me with the problem im having - ive tried to search the internet for a solution and tried loads of things but to no avail.

I have a Vista laptop and im trying to setup a Wireless router in my flat. I have a Belkin F5D763-4 router.

My parents have the same router set up in their house and I can access that fine with my computer wirelessly.

I am currently running a Tiscali wired connection for the internet which runs fine.

I go through all the setup options on the Belkin instructions but when I try to connect to the router it gives a message saying connected with limited connectivity. From looking around the internet this seems to be a common problem.

I dont know if this is relevant but when i tried to set up the router via the network car and cable on my PC it would not connect to the router unless i had the wired modem connected through USB and an inernet connection established.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

A:Solved: Belkin Wireless Router

do you know if your laptop came with built in wireless? if so, you should not need to buy an adapter. look for an icon down by the clock that says something like "wireless connection", "wireless assistant" or something like that. if you have more than one, let us know, that might be important as well. if you do have built in wireless on the laptop, make sure it is switched on ( some laptops have a switch for the built in wireless so you cant turn it off when it is not needed, to conserve battery power when not plugged in) it will usually have a blue light with a symbol that looks like an antenna with waves coming off of it.

I have a laptop and a desktop both using the wireless connectivity with absolutely no issues for over a year now. About a month ago, I purchased a new Averatec notebook. Everything worked fine until Friday. All of a sudden, out of the blue, my wireless connection one the notebook is getting low and limited connectivity. I used to get Excellent and Good, now it even loses connectivity quite frequently.

I downloaded the October update for this Belkin wireless router model F5D7230-4 from the website, hoping that would help. I restored my new notebook to it original state at the time of purchase, thinking perhaps a file became corrupt. Checked the DHCP clients and lease time. Everything looked good there. (However, the new notebook was showing a lease expiration of January 1904 when I ran ipconfig /all from the command prompt.) Since installing the latest firmware update, that has now changed to January 2038. So at least that looks correct now.

Now here's the really strange part. The signal is Excellent when I sit right next to the router, but when I go upstairs, it becomes low or very low, or no connection at all. Whereas, my other laptop shows excellent at all the same spots in the house. I even tried disconnecting that one, just to see if the new notebook would get a better signal with that one turned off. It didn't work. As a matter of fact, the wireless connection info window pops up constantly telling me I lost connection, or I'm connected again.

My router works fine, but the problem happens ONLY when i set my xbox 360 outside of the firewall using the DMZ feature. The firewall is ON on my router and then i set my xbox outside of the firewall (which makes xbox live happy) BUT then my computers internet completely stops working.. the only way to get it to work is to turn OFF the firewall all together which then makes my xbox not happy while on live. It seems i can only have one or the other i dont get it, why is my computers internet cutting out when i set the xbox outside of the firewall? I'd set them both outside of the firewall if i could, but the xbox needs to have NAT set to open and the only way i can manage that is by using the DMZ feature (turning the firewall off completely doesnt seem to do it)

I am trying to connect my Nook to my wireless network. When I originally set the network up, I wrote down EVERYTHING: router password, network name, network security key, security type, IP address, network name & network passphrase.

The original set up was with a now unused laptop; I have since successfully connected a desktop wirelessly to the network but the Nook keeps telling me I'm entering the wrong wireless password.

I can access the router page through the IP address using the info I said I have above and have not been able to figure out the password. From what I can tell, there's no way to recover my encrypted password and I need to do a factory reset to my router and set it up from scratch again. (If I'm wrong on that, PLEASE someone let me know!)

I guess my question is ultimately this: if I have to do a master reset to my router, do I have to use a cable to connect it to my PC when I'm setting it back up? The computer is on a different floor than the router and I don't think there's a cable long enough (that I can afford!) to connect them.

Sorry, it's Windows Vista 64 bit and a Linksys wireless router WRT54G2.

Thank you in advance for your help!

I have a Belkin Play N600 (model No F7D4101).

It can detect access points, but for some reason wont connect to them.
When I first had it, it connected fine without a problem. As far as I can remember I have not made any hardware changes or major software changes.

I was using Vista and decided an upgrade to windows 7 with a fresh install might be all it would take to fix. Nope.

When I use it in my laptop, it connects fine first time every time.

I have tried a second Wifi adapter which worked fine, but its not mine to use so isn't a solution.

Tried the drivers on the cd, and downloaded the latest drivers.

My router is a bt home hub 3.0

On a seemingly endless XP Vista home networking file sharing mission. Had a Dell E510 desktop connected to the internet by a cat5e cell tower 900 mhz antenna modem. that all worked well. Bought a new Lenovo T61 laptop and Belkin N1 router. Setup the Dell XP direct wire to the Belkin and the Vista Laptop wireless to the Belkin. Both connect good to the internet. Downloaded the XP patch to allow the XP to show up on the Vista network map. That worked. Tried just about everything imaginable to allow file sharing from dozens of sources from microsoft to sites like this with no success. Hired a network guy who spent 4 hours pinging and checking and repinging and finally accepted defeat and luckily only charged me $55 instead of $55/hour. Tried sharing both c drives as in the post on this site with no success http://forums.techguy.org/networking...nter-file.html . tried shutting down the explorer browser on the xp to prevent
'browser conflicts". tried shutting down all firewalls (windows on each and mcafee on the Dell, Lenovo has bitdefender antivirus only). Interestingly, a few times the Dell computer has shown up on Network locations but it doesn't allow an access. The Lenovo has never shown up on the Dell or any shared files either. The network technician said lots of people were having the same issues and many downgrading to XP. I have literally invested >50 hours into this and am wondering what to look at next. I love the idea of sharing and modifying files ... Read more

Well this is a new problem! I tried to change the ports on my router, only to find that I am unable to access it. I think the problem may stem from my disabling the router's ability to act as a router. Any suggestions?

Hi, hope somebody can help.

I just had to install a new hard drive in my Advent QC430 laptop and do a full destructive recovery to re-install windows vista. Before I had problems with my laptop, I had a connection to my Belkin wireless router/modem which worked fine.

I presumed as I had fitted a new hard drive I would have to set up the connection with the wireless router again. So I went through the procees of connecting my laptop directly to the router/moden via ethernet cable and ran the installation cd that came with the router. All went fine and the wizard automatically filled in all the IP info etc and the box came up saying connected. At this point I did have an internet connection.

The problem I have now is as soon as I disconnect the ethernet cable I loose the connection. I have tried 'find a network connection' on the lap top but it does not find the Belkin router.

I know I had this problem when I first set the router up a couple of years ago but I can't remember what I did to sort it out??

Any help would be appreciated! Stu )

My PC and my wife's PC connect to the internet via a Belkin Wireless Router. It's been fine for 3 months, but twice in the past two days it has thrown us offline, and the green Data light went out. BT Yahoo! Helpdesk suggested unplugging it for 5 seconds, then reconnecting the power. This worked! But it only lasted a day. The next day, same things happens. So we unplug it and reconnect it after 5 seconds, and it's fine. Anyone know what's happening here? Should I demand a replacement? Should I disconnect the thing every time I close down the PC? Thanks!

I can get my new PC to connect to my router wirelessly, but not with a wire. I don't get a blinking green light on the ethernet port, but only a continuous orange light. With wi-fi, the PC gets through, obtains an IP address, it's not being blocked on the MAC address...

Now, I have the following reasons to think the problem is in the router:

- It's not only my new PC I can't connect with a wire--any other device, Mac or PC, doesn't work, but works with wi-fi;
- my old PC connects fine with a wire. I'm using the same wire, on the same Router port when trying with the new one.

Before attempting a factory reset, I'd like to see if anyone can think of anything...

Hey Guys,

I have had a search around and cant seem to find a post with the same problem as this so im hoping someone out there can give me a hand

My friend has a Belkin G wireless router f5d7234-4H v5, he has recently been reconnected to the internet after being cutoff a couple of months ago. Now that his internet is back the router seems to be blocking access, the internet works fine when connected directly to the modem but the router is showing a red light under 'internet'. The 'modem','wired' and 'router' lights are all green and there is no light at all under wireless.

I have tried the following steps -

Resetting router to factory default settings
Fully rebooting all hardware and switching on in correct order etc.
Updating firmware for the router and drivers for the network adapter in PC

I have tried running the setup CD again but it says that it cant connect to any network adapters in this computer - even though it works fine connected directly to the internet!

It seems strange that it would suddenly decide to stop working, since no changes to the settings had been made in the period of downtime. It seems like it should be a simple ting to fix, hope someone out there knows how

Successfully connected router to internet. Failed to connect router signal to the G4 which I understood to contain an Airport card. Can't understand why the G4 does not detect the router signal. Am I wrong but does the laptop need a card installed or is there other hardware/software required to give me the desired wireless networking?

We have quite the set up here..
Three computers and a HP 5SI printer connected to a pro curve switch box. We use Synergy so that we can use one mouse and keyboard with all three computers. I just installed a Belkin N+ router, so that I can use my laptop thru the wifi. Had problems getting the computers to connect to the internet, finally got that to work, then it took three hours to get Synergy to work again. Now the computer can not "see" the printer. We just put Win 7 on the main computer and I had the printer working before I installed the router. I even tried taking it off the switch box and hooking it directly to the router and the router don't see it either. I am just lost for a solution.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A:Solved: Belkin N+ router will not connect to HP 5SI printer

Well after a little more looking it finally hit me the IP address on the printer was not within the range that the router required and I couldnt change that so I found out how to change the IP address manually on the printer... and how it works... YAY!!!
