I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Dear Tech guys,
I badly need your support. Day before yesterday (01-Aug-06) night I upgraded the yahoo toolbar and used their norton anti spy to scan. Then I shut down the system and started to work the next day. Every thing is perfectly ok except for one thing. In Windows Explorer, on any folder or drive if I double click or open I get a crash. If I do explore then there is no problem.

Below is the dialog that comes whenever we double click or open (for eg: on C:\ or any folder in the left side pane of the windows explorer. If I just keep expanding the + of the tree no problem, only on clicking the item to open the following error occurs.)

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

program: C:\Windows\Explorer.exe

This Application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

I am running on Windows XP SP 2. I dont have google toolbar. I have yahoo tool bar installed. I have tried uninstalling it and installing it again and other combinations as well.

I have also tried sfc /scannow as well. It did not work.

It doesnt look like any adware or spyware (yahoo's norton spyware had done a complete run and no problems in the system as reported by them).

What should I do now to get back to normal operation of windows explorer.

Thanks and Regards,
Naga Kumar S

A:Windows Explorer Runtime Error (not related to Internet Explorer)

I would un-install the Yahoo Toolbar and then put Google Toolbar in, Then I would try to download .NET framework 2.0

and install it. If it tells you that you already have it re-install it anyway.

For email I am using Netscape 4.7 and did not seem to like 6.o so I stayed. Now I am getting a new computer next week and would like to switch from Netscape 4.7 to Internet Explorer.
The question is : I have maybe 100 folder and 1000 emails I have saved from jokes, stories, pictures, videos, etc. Can these be transfered from Net 4.7 to I.Explorer and how?
Part.2 are most people that have gone from Netscape to I.Exploror happy with I.Explorer?
Thanks WJ

A:netscape 4.7 going to Internet Explorer

I switched from Netscape to IE and love IE now that I have gotten used to it.

To change the files from netscape to Outlook or Outlook Express just import them into Outlook or Outlook Express.
Easy to do once you get the computer and have it set up.

can any one tell me how to change over your internet browser
i want to use netscape 6.2 and i now use internet explorer do i go into the start up menu and remove it from there knowing i can always put it back at a later date

A:netscape/internet explorer

The first step in the process is to set Internet Explorer so it will not
ask whether it should be your default browser:

1.Open up Internet Explorer.
2.Under the View menu, click Internet Options (in 4.x browsers)
or Options (in 3.x browsers).
3.In the dialog box that appears, click the tab labeled
4.At the bottom of the dialog box you will see a checkbox that
reads "Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the
default browser." Make sure this box is not checked.
5.Click OK and close Internet Explorer.

Next, set Communicator to be your default browser:

1.Run Communicator by choosing Programs and then
Netscape Communicator from the Start menu or by
double-clicking the Communicator icon on your desktop.
2.You should be presented with a dialog box that reads
"Navigator is no longer registered to handle Internet
Shortcuts. Would you like to register Navigator as your
default browser?" Click Yes.

If you do not encounter this dialog box when starting
Communicator, you will need to reset Communicator to bring this
dialog box up the next time you launch Netscape:

1.Exit Communicator. Important: Make sure Communicator
and all of its components are NOT running.
2.Go to the Netscape directory on your hard drive. Open up
your hard drive (usually labeled C: drive). Next, find and open
the folder labeled Program Files. Inside you will find a folder
labeled Netscape. Important: This is the default location for
Netscape... Read more

Ok this problem is ticking me off! I have ran adaware, spybot, and windows update. Several months ago my Internet Explorer stopped working. If I click to open it, it pops up for a second, then goes away, almost as if there was a pop up blocker. So then since I could not fix it by another download, I installed netscape. All was well until this saturday. I click on the program, and NOTHING! I have NO browsers period! I did nothing strange, or downloaded anything that day. I am clueless at this point and I need this pc for online college. The only way I have a browser, is if I open properties, then retype a location, but I can't get another window to open otherwise. I dont' know how this could have happened at all...please HELP!

When ever I run Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator and try to go to a certain website it usually lags A LOT. I don't really know why. When I upgraded my MSIE 3.0, which was working perfectly, to MSIE 4.0 my IE started having this problem. Unfortunately, I deleted the backup of IE 3.0. Thanks, whoever tries and helps me.
By the way, I don't want a link to Microsoft's Tech Support Page, that page is too hard to navigate in.

A:Internet Explorer/Netscape problem

If both lag, then its probably a problem with that web site. Does this happen on every web site, or just certain ones? If so, provide the web site here and we'll try it and see if there's a problem with it. By the way, you can speed up your access to web pages by configuring your browser to not load pictures or animations, etc. If you want to know how to do that, let us know.

I just upgraded an older computer, P2 233 mhz w/ 256 mg ram, plenty of disk space, was never on the internet, put in Win ME, added it to my home network, latest version of IE & Netscape, everything is working very well no errors in device manager, no conflicts on any devices, network is working well, seeing the other computers, no issues.
Except, while browsing, after 30 seconds to 20 minutes IE6 or Netscape 7 LOCK UP THE COMPUTER, have to hit the reset button, never get an error message.
I have re-installed the network card by removing it and re installing it in another slot, Went to IE5 and had the same problem, then back to IE6 hoping it wood fix it, up graded to the latested versions and software up dates in Windows, double ckecked that all the protocalls are loaded, IPX/SPX, NetBEUI, NETBIOS, client for Mic. Networks, the network card, file and print sharing and dial up adaptor.
Ready to literally punt it. Don't know what to next.

When trying to access a banking site's web site, I got a message that my browser was not the most recent one and I needed to download an update. I did so and ever since, I have had major problems with Internet Explorer. It won't even start up - it just gives me the "illegal operation" message and the details say something about stack dumps (whatever they are!) I got so sick of trying to fix IE that I installed Netscape. Guess what? Same problem. The browser opens and then the error message comes up.

Does anyone have any ideas of what could be wrong with my computer? I have done all of the Norton Utilities diagnostics and it's telling me there is nothing wrong.

Hello to whomever responds to this thread. This is the first time I've used one of these help forums and my knowledge of computer lingo is limited, but I'd be greatful if you could help me with this problem.

A little while ago I downloaded an application which turned out to be a 'trojan', or so I believe. Upon opening it I received an error report, and my antivirus program (Symantec) informed me that several items with .trojan in their name had been detected and deleted. I was also advised to reboot my computer, and after doing so I became aware of a little red shield icon in my system tray. Clicking it brings up a question which reads:

"Would you like to update your security software and download System Live Protect?"

I have not clicked yes because I believe this may be a problem. Furthermore, whenever I open Internet Explorer, there is an error report: "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close."

I am unsure as to whether these two problems are related, but that is my suspicion. Is there anything that can be done?

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab:
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm and then click OK.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Make sure you downloaded, installed, updated and ran these programs (run in Safe Mode) already - Ad-aware, Spybot and Ewido. If you didn't, do them now. For more information, go to http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm

Before you do anything else, please create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the Temp folder. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some... Read more

Hi, I hope you guys can help,
I have just installed XP Home on my wifes rig for the 3rd time (reformatted each time - used 2 separate hard drives).
I ran Nortons internet security (with updates) - no viruses
I ran Adaware which found some evil spyware entries (about 10) cleaned them up
I updated XP to SP 2.
When I get it on the internet (through cable modem) I almost immediatly get those fake messages about the system being bad and go to some bogus site selling some bogus products. I got that to stop by using shoot the messenger.

But.... each time I install it even this time with all the precautions the whole system will crash everytime I open up either browser.
Usually I can do a few things - visit a site and then crash!
The odd thing is there are no crash messages from windows.

Could this be my cable modem?
Could this be a virus in my bios?

It sounds to me like you have some pretty evil malware on your computer. Please download HijackThis to your computer from this link. Please unzip this program to a permanent location on the hard drive, such as C:\Program Files\HijackThis\Hijackthis.exe. Then when you are done installing "Scan and save a logfile". Notepad will open. Copy the entrie HijackThis log into your next reply.

Hiya.. little info on my problem, seems it started yesterday as I am not able to surf/browse any websites with IE6 like I have before with no problems. Now though, when i open up ie6, i get website found.. waiting for reply.. or opening http://.... and it just halts, doesnt go anywhere. Went to internet options, defaulted all the settings to no avail.. Funny thing is that both Mozilla and Netscape both work fine and i can also play my online games

I have windows xp professional. Problem occured yesterday, tried to uninstall ie6, but seems theres nothing to uninstal.. no internet explorer6 in remove programs or anything similar. Ive also tried downloading it to reinstall but seems i cant download as the microsoft server is busy or just doesnt respond (ie6 setup thingy).

If anyone has experienced this problem before and can maybe shed some light and give me some info/help, it would be appreciated, thank you.

A:Internet Explorer 6 not working.. (but mozilla and netscape works)

Use System Restore to roll your computer back to a date to before when your computer worked right. Before the error(s) started occurring.

To start System Restore, click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. Or, in the Help and Support main screen, click Use System Restore under Fix a problem.

This procedure is best done in Safe Mode but either Normal or Safe Mode is fine.

Likely, your anti-virus software and maybe other applications recently installed will need to be uninstalled; computer restarted; then reinstalled after using SR.

Hi.. I don't know if this is the right section, please correct me if it's wrong. Here is the problem:

My Internet Explorer 7 gives the error: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". I cannot complete the troubleshooting. It states that there might be a problem with my firewall settings. But my Firefox works perfectly on this computer. I have completed all the steps given in this link. However, it didn't work. I cannot run MSN right now because of this. And this is not a problem that developed recently, on this computer I have never managed to run Internet Explorer.

And another point to mention: Whenever I try to visit a site via IE7, before giving "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" error, on the status-bar I see a warning for a second such that a "dns error" or something.

I have also searched this forum for this, I have found some posts consisting HJT logs but could not reached a solution for my problem. Could you please help? Thank you.

Hello everyone and thank you for participating in this wonderful site.

My computer is a Pentium 4, 2.80 GHz, Running Windows XP Proffessional Version 2002 Service Pack 2.
The problem I'm writing about has been there for about a year. All in all it's the same prolem ever since, but every once in a while some detail changes, like a new error message.
Every about 5-15 minutes the Start Menu Taskbar and the desktop icons disappear (Explorer crushes). Most of the times they reappear shortly after, but sometimes they don't, and then I use task manager to run explorer and then they reappear. Yet, sometimes the computer stucks altogether, and I have to restart. In addition to that, many popups open when I surfe the web using Internet Explorer. The popup changes every few days, but in between it's always the same one.
Another point is that while the crushing of explorer can occur anytime, it most often occurs while I open or close Internet Explorer windows.

Sometimes I get an error message, and as I said, they change from time to time. But still, here are 2:

rundll32.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x74725956" referenced memory at "0x00a10004". The memory could not be "read".

Click on ok to terminate program.
Click on cancel to debug the program.
Another error message:

I have both Internet Explorer 6 and Netscape 6.1 installed. I use Internet Explorer as my main browser and my operating system is Windows Me. My problem is trying to send a link using Internet Explorer and having Netscape Mail open up instead of Outlook Express. I recently installed Netscape just to have another browser to use. I'm sure it's some setting in Netscape or Internet Explorer and probably due to installing Netscape recently. Please help. Thanks.

A:Sending a link using Internet Explorer 6

I'm not sure bout the settings in Netscape. However, you can go into Outlook Express click on Tools-Options and click on the Make Default button under the Default Messaging Program section. That should associate OE for mailing links, etc from IE.

Let us know if this works for you.

hi people, my first post, need some help, downloaded IE9 earlier on, saw the reviews and speed/frame tests and was impressed, downloaded it, installed it..

now this is a screen shot of the message i get when i click on the IE9 button at the bottom left hand side of the screen..i click check online for solution and nothing, i then click close program and nothing, it just keeps popping back up with that message about solution, even if i terminate the program in task manager, just keeps popping back up with that message..then after a while it dissapears or i end up just loging out and back in...however if i right click on the IE shortcut menu pops up and you can choose 'start inprivate browsing' if i select that internet explorer 9 works, a treat, its probably one of the best web browsers ive ever used...now my brother on his laptop installed it just 10mins ago and viola same problem?? is this common? or is some sort of bug they need to fix or what? im confused so any help or advice would be much appreciated...i know there will be times when i forget to right click on the shortcut and i'll be sat there for 20 mins trying to shut down IE lol.

Our company  website contains a collection firmware and executable for our customers to download. Customers running Chrome, Firefox, or early versions of the IE have no issues. Customers running IE11 and
Edge on Windows 10 report that .exe files download properly, but the firmware files with a custom extension do not. Instead, IE11 opens a new tab and the new window contains a little "X" icon. That's it. Nothing in the Download area.
Some of our more adventurous customers searched through there Temporary Internet folders and found the firmware files stored as .ICO files. When the files were copied out and renamed back to to the proper extension
(the main part of the name was correct), our product read the files just file. Any idea why are the files getting their extension changed to .ICO and why are they not appearing in the download area. This is affecting multiple customers.

Try running System File Checker. Have your XP CD ready if you have one, because it will check and replace any corrupted files. Go to your Start button, then Run and type in

and hit enter. Then, in the DOS emulator that pops up, type

sfc /scannow

and hit enter.

The System File Checker will scan for corrupted files and replace them from the CD if necessary.

Hi, i am new at this, so bear with me lol

We have just moved our XP computer into the living room, and connected it to a 58kb dial-up connection. We installed AVG 8 and everything was running fine

Now we've installed Windows Live OneCare Family safety on the machine so we can monitor my borther and sisters internet usage.

Now, the computer runs extremely slowely, Windows Explorer continually crashes, meaning we have great difficulty opening My Documents, and My Computer or anything that requires Explorer to open

As well as this, now the internet is majorly slow... even for bloomin dial-up, we used to get at least 9kbps, but now its shot down to between 2.5 and 1.5 kbps

AVG is now continuously scanning... even outside of scheduled scans, and constantly wants to update :S

And finally, i have now noticed that small files i dont use very frequently have begun to dissapear from the system!!! music files, images, word docs etc.

We have tried defragging it, scandisk, using AdAware SE Personal 2005, AVG Scans, and they all come up with negligeable results.

As well as this, now the pc wont install files for Trend Micro Online scans to run... so we cant even work it out that way :S

I have a suspicion this could be something to do with OneCare, or Multiple Viruses in the system that have somehow hidden themselves from AVG

This sounds like a virus, have you tried running a hijackthis log?
