Yoga 710 - Shut Down Loop When on Battery

Q: Yoga 710 - Shut Down Loop When on Battery

Recent issue that started in the last week but I have not made any changes to the system other than potential Windows automatic updates. When on battery my Yoga shuts off anywhere between 1-5 minutes. This problem is continunous until I plug the AC power back in. Went through settings and I cannot figure out what is causing this. Battery is fully charged and indicator reads as such. Has anyone had this issue?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Edit: I noticed that when I unplug the AC Power, the battery light indicator next to the charging port started to blink orange after about a minute. Battery indicator in the task bar still shows 95% percent and the battery has been plugged in long enough that it should be fully charged. However, the light does not blink every time. Last time I unplugged it the light never came on but the computer shut down after about one minute. Does anyone know how to force the battery to cycle?

I bought my Yoga 13 (type 20175) brand new in 2014.  It shipped with Windows 8, 128GB, 4GB, if I recall correctly.  I had a license for W8 Pro that I used and there was a free 8.1 upgrade that I completed not long after purchase. Upgrades over the last (almost) 3 years have been boosting it to 8GB of ram, installing a Samsung SSD 850 EVO (250GB), Windows 10 (Pro), and now a battery. Sometime in 2015, I started noticing that if I didn't use the laptop and left it off for 2 or 3 days, the battery would completely discharge to 0%.  I chalked it up to age, and could still get several hours of moderate use in a day, so it wasn't a priority.  Finally, I bit the bullet and bought a brand new battery and put it in last week. Nothing changed.  I still have the same problem. In retrospect, it may have coincided with the installation of Windows 10.  Below is a further description of the problem and things I have tried.   PROBLEM:When shutting down, the battery loses an average of 2.5% per HOUR. (i.e. after 10 hours, it goes from 100% to 75%)This is consistent whether I use the Windows Start menu, the power button, or a command prompt (shutdown /s /f /t 0) to turn it off.  By the way, putting it in hibernate burns at the same rate. When putting the laptop to sleep, the battery loses only about 0.75% per HOUR (i.e. after 10 hours, it goes from 100% to 92%).  This occurs regardless of how I put it to sleep... Hi amote,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Battery draiining reports are also visible on other OEM forums as well and most likely related to similar features offered by Windows 10. Such also applies to different model of different macnufacturers as well.

Disabling fast start as discussed here would be a good step to try first.

Our forums are peer to peer community discussion group but Tech support (although maybe limited to their own scope of support) also utilizes the discussions we have for investigation of issues.

After a round of Windows updates, I went to turn on my laptop and recieved the "Primary internal battery (601)" error.  After this screen, however, Windows would not load.  I have tried taking the battery out and 'draining the charge',  and starting up the computer plugged directly to AC with no battery.  Windows still does not load.  The start-up test in the diagnostics menu said the battery needed calibration, however when I go to run the battery test, it gets to "waiting for battery to charge" and exits out of the test without giving me any results at all.  Currently when turning on the computer I no longer get the "primary internal battery" error, it just goes directly to a black screen with blinking cursor.  Any help is appreciated, I'm completely at a loss here!

The battery status toggles between not charging, not used, and unauthorized battery after it was calibrated using one key. Before that, the battery was working perfectly, lasting close to 5 hours. Now the laptop shuts off when unplugged and the battery status is constantly changing. I've had this laptop for approximately a year now and it was unused and left in an unopened box for the first 8 months.

I'm having problems with my 910 yoga. He's been carrying it for more than two days and it's only 44%. Unlike the other posts, where yoga is connected and does not carry my charges very slowly. Also when I remove the power cable the battery drains very fast.
1) I already updated the BIOS
2) I already unplugged and reinstalled the battery drives
I do not know what else to do.

I am a Yoga 700-14ISK user for 2 years. And I had encounter serveral issues with this laptop before (and the service center helped me to fix them) However, now there is an issue I just have now - my battery is draining fast like 1% lost per 2-3 min for light usage (browsing on Chrome or doing my schoolwork either on Microsoft Office or Google Drive) I suspected it was due to my battery wear level. However, as I monitored it, I realised it keep fluctuating (from 19.64% to 42.02%) until I re-calibrate which gives me 38.51% and then 38.71% after a charge to 60%. Is it possible the battery wear level can cause the quick drain in battery?  Is this battery wear level normal? I would also like to point out that I had the battery changed over a year ago and I normally used my laptop for schoolwork and gaming (occasionally now after realising the issue.) I am also going to have an internship (at least 6 months) from July so I am very worried that my laptop can't last long especially its battery. Hence, should I go to a Lenovo service center and request for a battery replacement? Please give me any possible reasons on why the laptop battery starts to drain fast and its battery wear level sharp increase, and also possible solutions for these issues. I would like to know more about it in order to sustain my laptop at least for a year.

My Yoga 3 pro is still a nightmare and so far is unusable given onging battery problems. However I digress. The thing wouldn't charge past 72% and took 2 days to get to that from 51%. So yet again I searched the net hoping to find something new and I noted yet another updated battery guage realeased only a few days ago. I also noted that someone had suggested deleting the windows battery drivers in Device Manager after disconnecting the battery which I figured couldn't hurt so went ahead. Once I reconnected the battery, plugged it in and waited for it to download the battery drivers, I noted it didn't install the ACPI component. Now lo and behold, I have no battery guage at all. In fact it says "The battery is not used", but of course it is. I then tried the latest battery guage driver but no improvement. Can anyone help in this age old problem? Cheers

My Yoga 3 Pro-1370 does not detect its own battery. At the lower right of the screen, it appears the battery sign empty and crossed by a diagonal line. When I click on it the message "The battery is not used" appears.  OneKey Optimizer says: "No battery is present". Please see two images attached. Got the laptop and the battery inspected by a professional but he couldn't fix the problem. He himself updated the Bios, Windows, cleaned the inside and the fan of the computer but the problem is still there. Please provide me with a solution ASAP.

Hi,
Last night I was going through the process of updating vista. The updates that pop up at the bottom right of the screen sometimes that tell you there are important updates for you to download. When the computer restarted it came up with the screen configuring updates, the first 2 configured just fine. My problem is that it trys to configure the third update, the computer sits there for about 5 minutes staying at 0%, then it will bring up a screen saying shuting down. The computer will then reboot and go back to configuring the third update again, and then shuts down. I tried to boot the computer in safe mode but it does the same thing.

Also I don't know if this would be a problem but the vista on this computer is an upgrade from xp. So I do have upgrade disc for vista. And I have tried to use the upgrade disc I went into repair computer option clicked on restore points and clicked on several different restore points before the time of the update and every time I try the restore it just fails and doesn't restore the computer to an earlier time. I've also tried to click on restore to last known working configuration that was unsuccessful as well.

Hi  I unfortunately have a Yoga 300 with the tiny 32gb SSD. Like many this has crashed during an attempt to install a Windows update. Unfortunately it is also out of warranty. After a failed update we have tried to  reset the device - as per the Windows recovery menu. This has resulted in the laptop now being stuck in a loop with the repeating Lenovo logo. I looked into purchasing the recovery media, but the realised that the device doesn't want to boot from USB - the option to boot from USB is not available in the bios.  I've tried from a bootable USB drive - but nothing happens. I'm running out of ideas - now stuck with an expensive paperweight... I'm very annoyed that the device has died following the instructions within Windows. Can anyone offer any suggestions? Thanks

Hi

My mum is having a nightmare with her computer. She initially had Vista on it then started getting error messages followed by a blue screen, she took it for repair and the guy also put XP and AVG on it. She previously had Norton on. I have been and set up her internet and email etc and as soon as we went on the internet it froze. We got an error message mentionining avgdump.exe shortly followed by a blue screen saying Windows was shutting down to prevent further damage to your computer - unfortunately the screen only stays on for 2 seconds then the computer reboots displays the blue screen again for 2 seconds then shuts down again and so on. I think the error code was 0x80000008e - as I say its not on long enough to check properly. Any ideas as my polite non swearing mother has now started swearing!

Thanks in anticipation

A:Blue Screen and Windows stuck on shut down loop

On boot up press F8 to get to the startup options screen before windows begins to load. Then go to disable automatic restart on system failure and press enter.

Next time you get a BSOD error, the system wont restart automatically, so you can jot down the error codes and any drivers mentioned.

You can also try to boot in safe mode from this menu to see if you still get the error message.

Computer: HP Pavilion dv6-1350us Entertainment Notebook running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. 250GB HD. Intel Core Duo Processor.

History: Hard drive is pretty well maxed with only a few gigabytes free. Laptop does not have a battery so it shut down when power cord was bumped. On restart it went into a repair mode that displayed files being fixed as it scrolled. When I went to remove the external devices while this was processing, I accidentally disconnected the power cord causing another shut down. This time when I rebooted, it went into Startup Repair with the box on the screen showing the blue box that travels across. After numerous hours I thought maybe it was hung up so shut it down and rebooted. This time I saw it gave an option for normal start or the repair so I tried the normal option twice and both times it came back to the same screen, leaving just the repair as an option so I started it once again. Paying more attention this time, I could see the hard drive light flickering so waited patiently as it ran....for over 4 days! I finally started searching the internet for how long it would run and found the endless loop issue. So last night, after I think ... Read more

A:Yoga 900 Does not shut down

This can happen because the laptop is still configuring, installing, or downloading updates in the background. It should turn off after its updates are done. If it doesn't check your power button setting, it may have been accidently changed to just turn off the screen instead of power off.

Hi! First of all, I would like to apologize if this is not the correct place to post this topic. I recently bought a new Lenovo 3 14 laptop (about 7 months in use now with barely 3-4 hours of daily work). Yesterday I was writing an e-mail and laptop suddenly turned off and never managed to start it again. I have to mention that battery was charging at that time with 90% charged. I tried holding the power button longer but nothing happens. White power light blinks and turns on for 3-4 secs as the laptop is about to start, without any sound of laptop starting and then the power light turns off. Any help would be appreciated because the laptop wasn't even working for a year, and it should be designed to work much longer. No physical damage. I have a lot data on it, so a guide to retrieve it from hard disk if the laptop is dead would also be appreciated.

I have a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro laptop (out of warranty) that until recently had been absolutely fine. A few days ago, Windows updated using automatic update. Then, it seemed to crash upon opening Chrome or Edge, and was able to be rebooted only when the screen was flexed at a certain angle. Now, the laptop seems to be caught in some kind of hibernation or sleep loop. The screen won't come on at all, and there is no access to BIOS or safe mode using function keys or a recovery USB. Novo button does nothing. The keyboard flashes on and off (with no capslock recognition), and despite adjusting the screen angle, I can't get it out of the loop. My feeling is still that it's stuck in a weird sleep mode or power setting loop, and that it's not a hardware or motherboard issue. But I can't get it out of the loop. Any ideas would be appreciated; I've looked at posts about similar issues but I'm stuck. Thanks, Rick

Hello I have been troubleshooting my laptop computer problems for awhile now and I was searching the internet with no avail.

Firstly I own a HP 8710W Laptop with WIndows 7 Pro 64bit that uses the NVIDIA Quadro FX1600 M Graphics Driver.

My computer for some reasons unexpectedly shuts down. Sometimes my mouse disappears and I thought it had something to do with my memory, which I scanned and had no issues, neither with the hard drive. It then goes in start up repair repeatedly, finding no issues. Yet for some reason once it runs it, I am able to log into Windows, but only after the start up repair runs and finds no issues. I tried to do the start up loop registry fix, and even tried to use the Windows 7 disc to repair and nothing seems to work. Also note, SFC /scannow finds no issues as well. I then end up figuring it may have something to do with Windows Update. And I end up receiving this error shown in the screen shot. Note my brother has the same make and model and running the windows diagnostic it finds no issues. I am unable to figure out why these issues are happening. Does anyone else have any ideas and solutions for the fix? Thanks.

Note: I also have uploaded my error log files as well.

Several times my brand new Yoga 900 shut off unexpectedly, visually looked like a kill-switch off, not a Windows shutdown or something. Different battery charge level: 30%, 55%, 75%, 95%--didn't matter; even on AC once. I had to turn it on and continue work. It irritated a log. But the last time it just didn't turn on. When I press Power button, the keyboard lits, the fan goes crazy, the screen stays black, and in five seconds it turns off. The same with NOVO button, but some times no fan going crazy, and no shutdown in five seconds, just nothing happening: the power button glows, the screen is black, no reaction on keyboard or screen touches--have to power it off in some time. I saw similar problems with Yoga 500 or 700, some say disconnecting the battery helps. I don't know about 500 or 700, but in 900 the battery is not detachable, and I assume taking the cover off to reach the battery would clear away the warranty, so that is not the solution in my case. Unfortunately, I am away from the States now, where I had a purchase, so sending it back not an option at the moment. Could anyone advise, please? Thanks!

Also after reinstallation when you unplug the power cord you don't see the battery icon in the task bar to tell you how much power is left in it. It used to do that too,not any more. Any help would be apreciated. thanks

A:Battery icon & shut down problems

On the Battery Power - Go to Start -> Settings > Control Panel - Click on Power Options Properties. Click on the Advanced Tab and then Click on Always show icon on the taskbar.

This is where you can choose to shut down the laptop when you shut down the computer.
