I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

First, click here to download Javacool's RapidBlaster killer. Launch the program and hit the Scan button. RBKiller will find any RapidBlaster variants on your system, kill the process, delete the Registry Run entry, and remove the file itself. Reboot when done.Click here to download Spybot Search & Destroy - install, update, scan and fix all RED items it finds. Reboot when done. Click here to download Ad-Aware SE and install. Before scanning click on "check for updates now" to make sure you have the latest reference file. Click "Start", select "Perform Full System scan" and "Next" to start the scan. When the scan is finished, the screen will tell you if anything has been found, click "Next". The bad files will be listed, right click the pane and click "Select all objects" - this will put a check mark in the box at the side, click "Next" again and click "OK" at the prompt "# objects will be removed. Continue?".Reboot when done. Rescan with HJT and post a new log here so that any remnants can be removed manually.

Hi all
So far I,ve enjoyed using W7 X-64 but there's one application that consistently (and randomly) fails for what I can see is no apparent reason.

The message IE8 has unexpectedly stopped working.
You then restart IE8 and it will sometimes but not always restore your last session.

I use almost NO plugins apart from the adobe flash - this installs on the 32 bit version of IE8 but not the 64 bit version.

(You can tell if flash is working / installed or not) by simply loading the BBC's home page (BBC - Homepage) and seeing if there is a little square analog clock application running at the right hand top of the screen - this won't appear if you start the 64 bit version of IE8).

I "tolerated" the occasional failure of the pre-RTM versions of W7 but I would have expected it to be fixed in the RTM.

Handling badly written / dubious code from zillions of websites can be tough on a browser but IMO the browser should be robust enough to just ignore or issue a message when it has problems accessing a particular site.

So W7 X-64 RTM in general very positive but not too happy with some aspects of IE8.

(Firefox hasn't yet crashed on my system - but for work compatability I'm often forced to use IE8 ----- so don't reply "why not use another browser please ).

A:IE8 - my main problem with W7 X-64 RTM

Here's something you can do:
1: Open Internet Options and go to and uncheck Enable Protected Mode.
2: Under Advanced tab, uncheck Enable 3rd party browser extension.

Clear all cookies and temp and then restart your pc.

I am having an issue with my main pc, computer 1 in my signature, not turning on or shutting itself down. It all started last week, I left the pc on and went to work, then a couple days later went to get on the pc and it was off. I have to try several times at turning it on before I finally get a post beep, I have unplugged the dvd drive, took out the video card, (that was my problem last time) and I even took out the ram and reseated it but I still can't get it to post beep the way it should. When I finally do get it to turn on it loads everything just fine then shuts itself down unexpectedly. I have a new power supply bought earlier this year and I am also on my 3rd video card since building this system. I was thinking maybe that the stuff between the processor and cooler could be old and not working, there by forcing the shutdown, any thoughts would be appreciated.

my main board wont load when powered. when i apply power, the keyboard lights, and the CPU/sink fan starts, but the monitor does not reflect any activity. i pused the num lock key, to see if that would work, but it didn't respond.

the board is a "PC100 Systemboard, Slot 1/socket 370". the processoer is a pentium celeron.

so far, i have:

changed memory, changed CPU, checked and confirmed jumper settings, replaced the bios battery, replaced the BIOS chip itself, swaped power supplies, striped periphials, and even changed the system speaker to see if there was an "error beep" i was missing.

the results:

the VGA "card" is onboard, with a ribbon cable "dongle"

i think that somthing is bad in the electronics of the board itself.

the system was functional before, then i put it aside, while i worked with another machine. now it just "doesn't work".

if anyone has sugguestions (can't spell that word), or knows how to check the board itself, let me know.

A:Monitor Main Menu Problem

Check and make sure the connections on your mouse and keyboard are secure.

If you are using USB connections for them, try PS2 instead, in fact, if you can borrow a mouse and keyboard from another computer try them, again, preferably not USB connected.

If they are wireless, change the batteries (yes, they do indeed have batteries).

My problem is that recently my headphones and pc speakers arent qorking properly. normally when the headphones arent plugged in the speakers should play sound and when the headphones are plugged in, the speakers mute and sound goes to the headphones.

well now its one or the other. when i boot, if the headphones are in, sound only comes to them and when they are unplugged there is nothing. same for the speakers at boot. the "playback devices" menu recognizes when the headphones are plugged in but sound still streams to speakers unless it is booted with them plugged in.

more info. a while ago i uninstalled realtek and used the computer without it for about 6 months fine. then i realized it was still hiding on the computer and tried to re-install it. it worked until i started getting BSOD's with an AVG update. now realtek is hidden with no way to access it though it's drivers are still used in adobe audition and the speaker icon says im using the stock 'high definition audio device'. i feel like this has something to do with this.

any suggestions?

Sorry if this gets long, I want to make sure I explain the problem sufficiently. I am trying to hook up my LG LCD HDTV to my husband's Toshiba Satellite via HDMI. I right-clicked on the desktop and went into "Graphics Propreties...". At first, I did a desktop clone, which worked out great, but I wasn't satisfied with the resolution. I figured it had something to do with the max resolution available on the notebook, since what displayed on the TV was just a clone of the notebook's display. I then switched to single display, with the HDTV as the display. That worked, andI was able to up the resolution past what was available before. Here is where the problem starts: I was switching back and forth with a few different resolutions, and happened to pick one that apparantly my HDTV does not like, as the screen went black and "Invalid Format" danced around the screen. As soon as I unplugged the TV from the notebook, it switched back to the notebook's display. Here is my question: I need to know how to either fix the resolution issue with the TV without it being plugged into the notebook, or I need to know how to reset the graphics settings so that it does not remember that I ever hooked it up to the TV in the first place, at which point I can start from scratch and not mess around with the resolution to begin with.

A:Solved: Problem with using HDTV as main display

Hi Skinygrl99, and welcome to TSG.

Found this in the PDF version of the A500 Series User Guide:
Directing the display output when you turn on the computer
Once you have connected an external display device, you can
choose to use the internal display only, the external device only, or
both simultaneously.
Some modes are only available with the appropriate device attached
and turned on.
The quickest way to change the display output settings is to use the
display hot key (Fn + F5):
1 Press Fn and F5 simultaneously.
2 While holding down Fn, press F5 repeatedly until the setting
you want takes effect. Briefly pause each time you press the F5
key to allow time for the display to change.
This hot key cycles through the settings in the following order:
❖ Built-in display only
❖ Built-in display and external monitor simultaneously
❖ External monitor only
❖ TV (or other external video device) only
❖ Built-in display and TV (or other external video device)
❖ Built-in display and external monitor (extended desktop)
❖ Built-in display and TV (extended desktop)
❖ Swap—Switch primary display between internal display
and external monitor when using extended desktop

That should let you get back to using the control panel to select a suitable mode for the exteranl screen.

EDIT Moved from Am I Infected to XP. As requested in post 22 ~~boopmeMy computer runs XP - Home.Last night I was prompted to update Media Player to version 8. I was afraid to do so, because many "updates" from MS mess up my computer. However, I loaded the update. I noticed the new icons in the tray and on the Start Menu, so I assumed all was well.On Friday nights I run my anti virus and anti spyware software. I started AVG anti-spyware. I checked on it 2 hours later and my boot up screen was on the monitor. By bootup screen I mean, when my machine is turned on, it stops soon after the bootup begins and says something about the Processor was changed??? and prompts me to hit F1 to continue or Del to go to the BIOS setup. I always hit F1 and the machine always bootsup just fine.Something happened while AVG was running to shut down the computer, what I don't know and I don't know if it is connected to the Media Player update or to a virus I picked up the night before (4 of us use this computer, so viruses and adware are not uncommon - I automatically run Norton Anti-virus and manually run AVG, Ad-Aware, SuperSpyware and Lavasoft). HOWEVER, this time when I hit F1 the machine did not boot up but rather loaded my desktop but with NO tray, NO icons and no response from the Windows key on the keyboard, but with only the mouse pointer on the screen. I could get the Task Manager by hitting Alt-Ctl=Del, but nothing else.I rebooted several times, and always ... Read more

I've been having problem the past 2 weeks with BSOD. I've run Prime95 for like 2h, no BSOD and the temp is around 75C, I've done some chkdsk on all of my drives. Have one SSD and four HDDs.
I've also run memtest86. First time I got one errr after pass 1 finished and started with pass 2. The test had run for like 2hrs. Then I pulled out one of the RAM(the one closest to the HDD cage), ran the test again for 2,5 passes(2-3hrs), no errors. Ran the RAM I pulled out, same length, no errors. Put the other three back in and ran the test over night for 8hrs, no errors.(??) I think it was around 5-7 passes. Under computer properties it was Installed RAM: 16GB (15,9GB usable)

But I still had problems. Reinstalled Windows 7 Enterprise, installed all the Windows updates and the drivers from Gigabytes webpage, this time without the EasyTune etc.
I also have simple programs like: uTorrent, Minecraft Server, Mumble Server, Wampserver, Plex Media Server and Filezilla Server on it. So no random programs etc.
Still got problems. I've tried to reset BIOS, didn't help. I have changed from IDE to AHCI in the BIOS(cause I have SSD). When I come home today I will try to pull out two RAM and see what happens, if that doesn't help, I will try to run with the two I pull out. I will also try to disconnect the HDDs and only have the SSD plugged in.
I will try to update BIOS too. If none works I will reinstall Windows again and dont install ANYTHING and see what happens. Any ideas? I... Read more

I have a Compaq Presario which has a fresh install of Windows 7 (legit). I saw a popup prompting that to play games you might want adobe flash player installed but I am fairly sure I installed that when I installed windows7. I am normally very thorough but I tried to reinstall it anyway since it wouldn't or shouldn't hurt.
I then found that it wouldn't follow all the way through on the install. Partway through the install I get a popup saying "Installation encountered errors. Actionlist not found."
I am also getting messages almost everytime I try to go to a website. I get a screen message that the site is dangerous and I have to agree to an exception in my security to get there. I never set my security that high or like that. It has done that on it's own. I am trying to find where to lower the sensitivity but have had no luck so far.

You can adjust your security setting from 'Control Panel / Internet Options / Security' but it is possible you have picked up a malware infection. I would advise that you download Malwareytes from here :
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

and run it as per its instructions. If this shows anything that you cannot confidentally deal with yourself, or that Malwarebytes cannot deal with on your behalf, you should post baqck here but in the 'Am I infected' section.

I sadly don't really know to much about how to fix computers past the more basic problems so I hope this is all the relevant information
My computer was fine 2 days ago and I can't think of anything that might have caused it to, well, not be. It hasn't been dropped or had anything spilt on it, I scan it regularily for viruses, malware and the like, haven't installed or downloaded anything recently either.
Anyway, yesterday when I logged in it took 20 minutes from submitting the password to fully loading the desktop. It was fairly slow and nothing Google would work, upon trying to open AVG anti virus it crashed. I opened it in the safe mode, ran a few scans, followed the windows prompts, restarted it and it worked fairly well (the login delay continued). Later in the evening upon trying to start it though it would not log in saying that the C: Drive cannot be located and then bring me back to the account screen. This morning when trying to log in in order to copy down the error message, it blue screened and said there was an essential compnent missing and rebooted.
I can still log in on the admin account but it will not load the desktop icons or any of the menu items - only My Computer and Control Panel will open.
I'm presently on exchange and I need my computer not only for work but because my laptop is the only communication I have with back home and I really need it to be working as soon as possible.
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. (Should I restore i... Read more

I am using Windows 2003 with Access 2003. I have a main form that uses fields from a table that I would call the Master table, and this form has several tab pages in it. In this form the 2nd tabbed page uses a subform which displays data from a different table (I call it the Job Number table). I have linked these two tables with a one to many relationship. One of the fields in the Job Number table is named "Contract Amount". So each job record in the Job Number table tracks a separate Contract Amount value, but it is linked to the Master table through the one to many relationship. My goal is to sum all of the the Contract Amount values for each linked Master record and display that amount on my 1st tab.

I have created a subform that uses a sumquery which sums the Contract Amounts from the Job Number table. I tested the subform and the sum feature against the live data, and it does perform correctly. I then added that subform into my main form on the first tabbed page along with other fields on the same tab page. These other fields come from the Master table. In the Data Entry view, I can see a box where the subform should display, but the data doesn't display. What can I do to force the subform to display data along side the other fields from the Master Table?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have Asus laptop with OEM Win7 HomeP 64bit on it, I installed Ubuntu 12.04 along side with Win7, didn't know that Ubuntu will be the main boot, I used Ubuntu 11.10 a year a go and Windows was my main boot, I tired several way to retrieve Win7 as main boot but didn't work.

I tried to fully recover Windows, but when finished I get black screen with "getgrub error"
now recovery doesn't work any more.

I want to get rid of Ubuntu for ever, how? without losing my genuine Win7

A:Dual Boot problem, Ubuntu is the main boot

Hello, Mesh F90 and welcome to Seven Forums.

First you to boot to Ubuntu 12.04 and follow this :

1. Open your Terminal.
2. Type grep menuentry /boot/grub/grub.cfg
3. You will got something like :
menuentry "Windows 7 (loader) (on /dev/sda1)" {
You will got other lines but you need this, this is last one.
4. Remember this quotes for Windows 7 (ex . "Windows 7 (loader) (on /dev/sda1)") (DON'T FORGOT quotes!!!) you will need it later.
5. In Terminal type this : sudo nano -B /etc/default/grub
6. You will got this :

# If you change this file, run 'update-grub' afterwards to update
# /boot/grub/grub.cfg.

GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian`
.... you will have more ....

7. Change GRUB_DEFAULT to value for Windows 7 from menuentry (you remembered it ) (ex. GRUB_DEFAULT="Windows 7 (loader) (on /dev/sda1)") (DON'T FORGET quotes).
8. Press CTRL+X and type "y" (without quotes) to save it.
9. Important step! Type in your terminal : sudo update-grub
to save your changes

That is all and Windows 7 will be default now.

Everytime I boot up up my PC, I get a window - asking me to whether run this program "mallty~1.exe" ....publisher not verified....and I always say "cancel" and then proceeds.

Is there anyway I can find out where is this stored and delete this permanently - remember I have'nt installed it so far - but the application has somehow found it's way into my PC.

Sounds like there's a startup associated with MallTycoonSetup.exe

Please do this:

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.Close all applications and windows.
Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt <-this one will be minimized
Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt in your thread in the HijackThis Log Help Forum.
Please attach extra.txt to your post.
To attach a file to a new post, simplyClick the[Manage Attachments] button under Additional Options > Attach Files on the post composition page, and
copy and paste the following into the "Upload File from your Computer" box:C:\Deckard\System Scanner\extra.txt

Click Upload.

What DSS will do: create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review. DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.

Hey guys,

Do you think using the RC of 7 is a good idea to use as my main OS? I have a genuine Vista and I could reinstall it any time I liked if I had to, but I dont wanna use it as my main OS only to find out in a few weeks that its gone to crap and I have to reinstall Vista. It would be easy enough to do but its not something I wanna do as I wont be making any backups.

Im using Vista 32 and 7 64 at the minute but im quickly running out of space and I cant find anymore stuff to delete so what do you think?

A:7 RC as main OS?

Windows RC Build 7100 is set to expire March 1st, 2010.

You've got a bit of time before that and by then you'll likely have purchased a copy of Windows 7 (retail). So I say stay with RC for now. I have been using Windows 7 since the first Beta was made public.

Okay so I have two major problems with my computer. It's a pain but I hope someone can help.

The first problem is my cd driver can not be recognized by my windows media player. So I can not burn any audio cd's. However on my real player it can sometimes pick it up, but it's rare that I can burn a audio cd.

Second problem is everytime I log on my computer or start my internet and go on different sites i get a message saying "Host Process has stopped working and was closed." But at time's when i am lucky enough, there is a message that starts before that. It says "crypotographic system has stopped working."

I have tried everything I can look for on the internet and it just does not work especially since I don't know much about computers.

Early on in the year my computer did crash and I reinstalled everything that i could try, Including Window's Vista itself, all the programs that my computer had came with I had to individually install myself. So I know partially that is the problem with my cd drive, but the Host message is new and started three days ago. it is getting on my nerves.

If you can help, please help me. Thank you in advance.

so i came to this forum because when i searched for "main msn virus" this was the first site that came up in google.
i read this thread: http://forums.techguy.org/malware-removal-hijackthis-logs/580505-solved-msn-virus-dunno-how.html

i downloaded fixwareout and otmoveit.
however, when i got to the otmoveit part i found that i did not have the files that were asked to delete in OTmoveit, so i decided to make my own thread.

so here is the time line: right after i got it i deleted the file that it had me download and i ran adaware.
ad aware deleted something it considered critical, i do not remember what it was. but this did not help. i also "repaired" msn messenger.
currently my computer will not allow me to use firefox, when i push enter, go, whatever method of making my firefox connect to the internet, nothing happens. msn messenger says it is unable to sign me in at this time and gives me an error code of "80072efd".
my machine is also running reaaallly slowly.
i have run my virus checker (AVG Free Edition) and it says there is nothing wrong.

so here is my hijack this log file:

I'm kinda confused, I read a tutorial on php, but I still do not understand why it's easier or more useful to use php than regular html.

What are good examples of using php?

Like creating links? Pics? Music? etc? What is it important for? please be specific.

Would html work better or php?

Ok, so I was bumming around the house this afternoon when I hear a voice from downstairs, my father sounds quite distressed and hollars something about a "screen he'd never seen before" well...

I arrive to the predicted blue screen of death on my main home PC (Windows XP Pro SP 2) and figured it was another hardware tick or the CPU overheating (fans not doing so great lately) but when I restarted and it booted its way past the BIOS I saw something that made me clench something terrible... "Error Loading Operating System"

Lads and ladies, the water here is getting too deep, my skills are now out of their league, and this may be as much a hardware problem as problem with my OS... I havn't the foggiest idea.

I tried doing a windows XP fix using the install CD like I have on previous occasions but I get as far as chosing where to install (or in this case fix) over a previous existing operating system but what I find is that it tells me C drive is either an unrecognizable file format, a corrupt file format, or there is too little space left. I obviously can't format it because of the contents, but there is no way that I know of to fix windows either.

Now I really start feeling like an idiot because my father stores copious amounts of huge images (professional photographer) and both of my hard drives (C: 80gb, and N:120gb) are about 90% full.

Any help would be hugely appreciated, any guidance towards my best bet is really really needed, ther... Read more

This is regarding the signature of the mian method. I had learnt that the signature is as follows:
public static void main(String args[])

But in some books & in the net, it says : public static void main(String[] args)
Sometimes it is also like this : public static void main(String argv[])

Im totally confused & not sure which is the right signature.I also wanted to know if the public & static keywords have to be only in this order. And exactly does the keywords Static, string & args/argv mean?

A:Main Method

ok, firstly, it does matter which way the 'public' and 'static' words are listed.

The 'Public' means that the class/method can be accessed by any call from anywhere.

Imagine that each method is a room with a door, when you use 'private' you are saying that the door is closed and anyone outside the room cannot see anything inside the room, when you say 'public' you are saying that the door is open and that anyone outside the room can make a call to variables and methods inside the room.

I cant remember the exact, technical meaning of the 'static' part, so i will not comment on it, but i suggest to avvoid the error "cannot referance Static variable from non-static referance" you put only the following code as the public static void main(String[] args) method:

public static void main(String[] args)
<class name> A = new <class name>();

then create a new method outside the main method called
Private void SecondMain()
<code goes here>

I cant answer you first Question sorry as it has been almost 2 years since it was last explained to me, but i have only ever used 'public static void main(String[] args)' and i've never had any problems.

Hi Anyone,

I'm new and inexperienced with my computer. Need assistance in solving this recurring problem. How do I get rid of this annoying thing? Please help!

Welcome to TSG!

Please do this. Go here http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ and download Hijack This. Un Zip it and click on the Hijackthis.exe.

Click the "Scan" button when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.

Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.

Do NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required. Someone here will be glad to advise you on what to fix.
