I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Until today that was not an issue. There were no software changes that I made.  Regular updates (windows and Lenovo). All the settings configured. No idea what's causing it not to sleep.

I have a yoga 900 and have set the power options to make the laptop sleep when the lid is closed. When I close the lid the laptop/tablet thinks that its been switched into tablet mode and prompts you to change to tablet mode in windows. Its as if I flipped the screen all the way around the other way. The unit does not sleep and just sits there eating up battery. Has anyone else encountered this?

Thanks,
Landon.

You seem to be saying that you yourself have "set the power options to make the laptop sleep when the lid is closed". If this is so, I don't understand, because the Yoga 900 should be set this way in the factory by default.

Hi everyone,  I bought a Yoga 920 about a month ago, and in the last week or so have had an issue with the computer's sleep function. Essentially, when I put the computer to sleep (either by shutting the lid or clicking using the mouse or pressing the power button), after a few minutes, it will not wake like you would expect it to do so under regular operation. The only way to awaken the laptop is to hold the power button and do a hard reset. This has caused me to have to do a hard reset multiple times a day.  The issue appears to be similar to this: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/ll06_en/thread-id/34896  Has anyone had a similar problem? What solutions are there?

Hi there, I'm not sure if this topic's been brought up since I couldn't find it. But I recently purchased the Yoga 920, and everything works fine except that the laptop goes to sleep after some time on it's own. I've changed the power settings for both screen lid down as well as the "put computer to sleep" to "nothing" and "never" respectively and it still happens. Even in my advanced power settings, there's only a very limited power menu. Also possibly related, there's only a "balanced" power plan, no battery saver or high performance. Regardless, it's driving me insane and any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I've has a history of sleep issues on my yoga 3 pro that came with Windows 10. Short History-------------1) Work properly for a few months after purchase2) The issue started (Laptop starts sleep process, screen goes blank, keyboard stays lighted, power stays lighted. It never goes to sleep, I cannot wake it, and need to hold the power button down for 10 seconds (i.e. kill power entirely))3) After many driver updates I still had the problem. I can only assume a Windows update started the issue but who knows.4) I noticed a BIOS update from Lenovo the other day so I gave that a shot. I was at version ***56*** and it was ***58****. It fixed the issue!5) Received Windows Update (Build 1607, Anniversary update) and now the problem is back. I've disabled sleep entirely as my current solution, but would like sleep to function as intended. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to fix? Does anyone know the root cause? Thanks

I have an issue with my Yoga 900 not reacting when putting it into sleep mode. I have tried chaning my sleep and wake up settings and the laptop is supposed to wake up upon use of the keyboard or mouse, but nothing happens. Also hitting the power button doesn't help. The only solution is a hard reset. This is particularly annoying when the computer goes into sleep automatically. Does anyone else have this problem? Any ideas for a solution?

Hi all,First post!  My Dad's Lenovo laptop goes to a black screen when starting up, so is unusable.I haven't seen it in the flesh yet but have started to research things for him and have found that 'black screen' shows up quite a lot for Windows 10 and Lenovo PCs! We were so impressed with my Dad's PC I've ended up with the same model myself:Lenovo YOGA 500 Convertible Laptop, Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 15.6" Touch Screen. Also labelled as: Yoga 500-15IBD Laptop (ideapad)  I see some people mentioning hardware failures and others device driver problems with the graphic card etc. but haven't read a definite cause/fix for this so far. I've just found this recent critical BIOS update for this PC which mentions the black screen problem:Software name: BDCN63WW Version 63[Important updates] Fix Win 10 lid close black screen issue.http://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Yoga-Series/yoga-500-15ibd/downloads/D...I haven't seen this mentioned in the forums? Has anyone else used this?If the PC always boots to a black screen I'll obviously have trouble installing this! I'm hoping that it will boot in Safe Mode or I'm going to have some trouble installing it?! I don't know whether to install the BIOS update on my own machine which is running fine - I think I'll wait until I see my Dad's laptop first which will be in a few weeks. Has anyone had any experience of this BIOS update or other comments on this?Thanks. &nb... I'm still wondering about this... I've just updated the Lenovo Companion after seeing it mentioned in another thread. It looks like this s/w is supposed to scan the PC and recommend Lenovo updates - critical and nice to have ones. Initially the Companion was showing a critical update for Lenovo SHAREit and a recommended one for my BIOS. It says I'm currently on BDCN28WW and offered something like v61 and not the 63 I mentioned in my first post? After letting it update SHAREit and re-scanning the BIOS update is no longer being offered and still shows me on v28 ??? I'm not sure I trust this 'Companion' app!My laptop seems to be running fine so I don't want to break it updating the BIOS if it's not required. For all I know my Dad's broken one may be broken because it upgraded?! Does anyone else use/trust the Companion app?And has anyone else seen it change it's mind on recommended BIOS updates? Thanks.

Hi,

I am getting a bsod every time I close the laptop lid to put it to sleep. The problem has been around ever since the system was installed on my laptop in the shop where I bought it (the shop closed down in the meantime, so I can't make them fix it).

When I lift the lid, I find the screen on, and computer completely unresponsive. After a while, this is followed by a bsod.
I usually resolve the situation by holding the shutdown button.

The laptop is a new Asus X552E, running Windows 7 64 bit.
I've attached the zip file containing my recent minidumps and the folder generated by SF diagnostics tool. Some unexpected problems occurred during the creation of the latter, so let me know if I should try to create it again.

Thank you!

DH

Run a check for memory problems.

Edit: I've just seen your latest BSOD,BUGCODE_USB_DRIVER,it's probably related to USB driver. What devices do you have connected to the USB?Any external drives?

Maybe you should uninstall universal bus driver and let Windows install appropriate one.

Hello, we got 2x Try-and-Buy Lenovo Yoga Tablet Laptops (an X1 Yoga and a Yoga 260) to evaluate their suitability for our company, since we intend to upgrade several of our employees laptops. However, ever since we got the devices we noticed on both of them frequent issues with the display and waking from sleep. Very often the laptops won't wake up properly with the screen staying black. In those cases the display-backlight seems to turn on, and I assume the system is running somehow in the background. Putting the computer to sleep again (e.g. by closing the lid) makes the computer wake up properly on the second attempt. Different error in the same category is when a video is running and the laptop is connected to AC - plugging out the AC cord made the screen go black while the media content's sound kept playing. All drivers were updated to the newest version via Lenovo System Update 5.07.0029. Any ideas? I also tried to open a support ticket, but Lenovo wanted to send and install a new display (!). Apparently, that seems like a driver/software issue?! Best regards

Although in my power settings my laptop is set that when I close the lid it is to go into "sleep" mode. I've uploaded a screen shot to show you how I have it set. The reason I would like to set it go into "sleep mode" when I clode the lid of my laptop, is because I am on the go a lot and it would be nice to have it in sleep mode instead of having to shut it down every time I want to go some where.

Hello everyone, I have an HP Envy 17t-n100 and I've been having an issue with my laptop entering sleep when I close the lid. I've checked the power and advanced power options to see what actions will take place once the lid is closed on multiple occasions but there has been no change whenever I check. Sleep mode after a set amount of time is working just fine. I'm not sure when this problem started but I believe it began around 4 months ago. Also when I close the lid, I've noticed that the screen is still on so could the problem be the mechanism that tells the laptop that the lid is closed? If that's it where is this located? Thanks, xencael

I have a lenovo W530.   About 8 weeks ago it started having a problem that when I try to get it to sleep by just closing the lid, it doesn't.   The problem is not consistent, but it happening several times per week.   When I close the lid, it is usually because I'm packing my bags to go to another location.   The laptop remains powered on, the screen remains powered on, and then it gets SUPER hot.   Like can't touch the laptop with your hands without burning yourself hot. Since I couldn't figure out why sometimes it would sleep and sometimes it wouldn't, I thought maybe it wasn't "detecting" the lid close, so I decided to try to sleep it manually and THEN close the lid. Frequently, it just won't sleep.   I go to the start menu (Windows 7) and tell it to Sleep, and the screen goes black, but I continue to have the "Wireless activity" light lit solid and the "hard drive activity" light will flicker for a very long time.  It never sleeps.   Of course, at that point, I've also lost the ability to CANCEL the sleep and save my files and log out, etc.    Eventually, I either have to power off through holding the power button down until it "clicks". If I close the lid anyway, and put my laptop in my bag, it "superheats" and either the battery goes so low it hibernates, or it stays on, but when I open the lid again it has power-cycled and I have to enter my PGP Full Disk Encryption password to start up. Any sug... Hello everyone,
I have a really strange problem. My laptop's lid close action is set to sleep, although sometimes this isn't always successful. I own an HP Pavillion dv6tqe-7000. There's a light on the shell to indicate if the laptop is still on and at times when I close the lid the light continues to stay on meaning the laptop has not entered sleep mode. If I open the lid again the screen is black, the power light is on, and the Wi-Fi light is also on. I can switch the Wi-Fi on and off still, and the button to mute the sound is unlit regardless if I had it on prior to closing the lid. I can't do anything, and I am forced to do a hard reset by holding the power button.

This seems to happen erratically and I'm not sure of any steps to get to the bottom of this or get any possible clues. Any advice would be appreciated. I've had this problem for about 9 months now, and even though I've upgraded the BIOS and dedicated GPU it still persists. I also have a logitech mini-receiver that I keep plugged in at all times.

I have a the last version of the 17" MacBook Pro model with the following specs:

Windows 8 64-bit
Intel Core i7 2.40 GHz
16GB RAM

I have from what I can tell everything working perfectly fine with the exception of the laptop properly going to sleep when I close the lid. I installed the Boot Camp Support Software 5.0.5033 and also updated the AMD Radeon HD 6700M drivers to get the video card working properly.

When I close the lid... the machine will seemingly "sleep" but it will not wake. The screen stays black and I have to shut it off completely and back on. I miss being abel to just close the lid when I need to and then just pick up where I left off.

Anyone else have this issue with Windows 8? Searching the web shows no results - I assume someone else has had this issue. Thanks for any feedback or thoughts you may have.

A:Windows 8 will not sleep when I close my MacBook Pro lid..

Just to let you know, I have just updated my Macbook Pro to Windows 8.1 with latest bootcamp drivers and to my complete surprise the only issue I have is the built in graphics driver under-scanning my external HDMI monitor. I was looking around for the best Radeon Driver as the one I installed crashed start-up needed to be restored. Anyway I saw your thread so thought I would test to see if the Lid suspends & resumes the laptop. It does a perfect job. I went into suspend when I closed the lid after 2 seconds and resumed on lifting the lid in under 3 seconds. So least you know it works on a clean install....maybe you have a driver issue. Anyway hope that helps.....and can you share where you found the Radeon Driver. good luck.. Mark.

You thread title.
Right click the window, bottom left, and you will see an option to shut down or sign out. If you click that, you will get the range of closing options. Alternative. swish to the right to enable the so-called "charms Bar". Clisk "Settings". Click " Power". There are other options, but those should get you started.
Can't comment on the cursor problem.

I decided to run media center yesterday just to see what happened when it connects to an Xbox 360. I closed media center and then closed the lid of my laptop. My laptop was fully charged when I left it but when I came back it was completely blank, turns out it was still consuming power when it should have been in sleep mode.

This has never happened before so I assume that this is related to running media center and confirming my xbox as a device to communicate to. Does anyone know how I can undo this and fix the problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help. I have a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Li2727 which I've had for just over a year. It's a great laptop, but recently I've had something weird start happening. Whenever I close the lid the laptop doesn't go into sleep mode anymore. However, when I re-open the lid it does go to sleep. If I don't notice this or forget to re-open the lid the laptop gets really hot, and I'm worried that this may cause problems in the future.

Additionally, the laptop also seems to sometimes randomly wake while the lid is shut. I only use it wirelessly, and have checked that none of the power saving options have been changed. I don't know if this was triggered by an update or not, as I hadn't used the laptop for a few months so there were a lot of updates to install once I started to use it again.

My setup is: Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Li2727, Vista Home Premium 32bit SP2

If it was just not going into sleep when closing the lid I'd expect it to be a broken switch, but it's the fact that it then sleeps when I open the lid that has me stumped.

Thanks in advance, hope someone can help me fix this!

Is it better, on a daily basis, to just close the Cover and let it sleep over night, or is it acceptable to shutdown then start new the next day ? Hi, I've got a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 (1.5 yrs old; Intel core 2 CPU 2.33GHz; 2GB RAM) with Vista Business (SP1 32bit) and often when I put it to sleep, it will hang or crash on resume forcing me to to do a hard shut down. Sometimes the screen will just be totally black and hang, and sometimes it will get to vista's "resuming" splash screen or even the login screen and then hang/crash. Often the disk activity LED will remain on indefinitely (due to the hang) even though I can't hear any disk activity. As far as I'm aware all my drivers are up to date. I'm just so fed up with loosing documents and personal settings now I've got to do something about it, and from googling, it seems this is a pretty widespread problem but I've not come across a solution that's worked for me - I've even installed the extra KB patch that was meant to fix it.

Also, sometimes when I put it to sleep (fully charged) and not use it for a a few hours, I find that the laptop has lost power during sleep because the battery has been run flat and the ventilation grille feels warm, even though I know that the battery can normally last much much longer on sleep. Is it possible that the computer resumed itself from sleep to hibernate after 200 mins on battery (as my power settings dictate) and then crashed whilst resuming, causing it to drain itself flat (since it my laptop should have entered automatic hibernation on the critical battery warning unless it was unable to respond)? I have an issue with the sleep function. The computer does not awake from sleep. When I try to do it, it behaves as if it was waking, but it never ends and there is only a black screen; the mouse and keyboard are inoperative. The only thing possible to do is a hard reboot. When it boots, it shows a notice with a minute report (in the zip file) usually saying there was a blue screen, but I NEVER see any blue screen at all.

I know the power configuration is OK because I have always used the same scheme. A powercfg ?energy report shows several errors and warnings. They refer to USB and PCI (vendor 1002=ATI motherboard), but I don?t know how to repair them.

I downloaded the drivers downloader from Rrecipester.org and downloaded and installed the drivers. They are all Broadcom Corporation signed, the brand of my USB Bluetoth attachment. I rebooted after installing, as recommended. Run powercfg ?energy again and got the same report issues (in the zip file). I don?t think the processor utilization warnings to be very important because they are low and sporadic picks. It has been like this for some time now, so I don?t have a restore point. Can someone help and tell me what I can do so solve this issue, please?

Files uploaded in the attached zip:
. Windows warning after reboot
. Windows dump and xml files (2 = 1 each)
. Powercfg -energy report

How can I turn on My Yoga 900 with the lid closed on Windows 10?(When using external monitor and no space for open Yoga) Details:a) When I return to office after using without external monitor, I plug in my display port device, push power button, doesn't turn on (LED on Power button blinking == sleeping?)b) I can turn it on by opening lid, then closing lid (with setting "lid close turn off" is disabled), but that doesn't fit my setup at all, especially if yoga sleeps while I do other things.c) If I set it to sleep with lid open, then power button works fine.*) This works with other laptops I've used. Open or closed if I pushed power button they always responded. Paul

Yoga 13 Laptop (ideapad) model 20175; Win 10 64-bit Having a problem when I wake after closing the lid. The keyboard and touchpad stop responding. A window pops up in the lower right asking if I want to enter Tablet mode (which I do not) but I have no way of answering the prompt! There is absolutly no response. The only option is to hold the power button until it performs a hard shutdown which I know is not a good thing for Windows and the app that I had open. How do I prevent/resolve this? I've read that you can disable the ymc service, but I DO want the ability to use the machine in Tent or Tablet mode, but only when I orient the device in those positions. I just have it sitting on a desk and I open and close the lid as needed. Are there new drivers or updates I need to install to resolve this? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

First, install Lenovo Vantage from windows store.  Let it search for updates.

Hi this is a recent issue with a ~2 year old (previously problem-free) Yoga 2 Pro running wimdows 8.1. I'd appreciate your help/input if possible. The computer crashes (automatically powers down) when the lid is closed. Sometimes it crashes as soon as I close the lid, other times it takes a few hours. The battery isn't drained when I start the computer back up. I've played around a lot with the power options, including disabling sleep and hibernate. My settings are (for plugged in and on battery): Put computer to sleep: neverTurn off hard disk: neverSleep after: neverAllow hybrid sleep: neverHibernate after: neverAllow wake timers: disableLid close action: sleep Any ideas as to the cause  and/or solution?

So I just bought and received a Lenovo Y700 15ISK - model 80NV. Everything works great, but I've noticed that when the laptop enters sleep mode, whether on its own or not, when I turn it back on, it goes through the start up process and any application I had open prior will be closed.  I did some digging around and came across this. I followed what it said and installed the audio driver and BIOS v35 (and subsequently, v52) but I'm still having the same problem. Any ideas on a solution? Thank you in advance! I think it might also be worth mentioning that beforehand, whenever I put the computer in sleep mode, it wouldn't resume and wake up until I had installed v35, so part of my problem's been fixed.

So I ensured that all my settings are correct to have the laptop sleep when the lid closes, but I had a cracked display and recently replaced it with another display. I am wondering if there is a proximity sensor somewhere that is not functioning on this model (W541), or if anybody knows how the display senses when it is closed. I don't want to send it out for repair because I don't have that kind of time to waste, since this is my only computer. Any tips?

A:W541 Lid Close Doesn't Turn Off Display or sleep

Cancel this topic, I forgot to put a magnet back in that was at the palm rest near the track pad.For anybody that is interested, there is a magnet at the very edge of the palm rest at the bottom of the track pad, that when closed, sets off a sensor on the left side of the camera on the W541 series laptop. That is how the lid knows when it is closed. Put the magnet back in, issue resolved.

Dear Forum

I have a new samsung ultrabook 5 series (NP530U3C-A01US) that is supposed to be fast in booting up and down using intels ssd cache. Unfortunately it does not stay in sleep mode but crashes instead (I do not think it is a BSOD, cant verify as the lid is closed). On opening the lid the laptop resumes from the main boot menu and windows announces that it has abnormally stopped and gives options of save boot. After normal reboot, the wireless card would not start properly, and everything is somewhat slow.
The failure is random, not every close lid will create the crash. I was not able to find the reason or the relationship that might cause it. I fear it is related to some custom samsung software installed (others refer to bloatware). Hope I can find help here.

I have reinstalled the factory image with the same result.
I have contacted Samsung help desk, with no useful help
I have re-installed the Intel drivers for centrino wifi module. My drivers for Graphics are up-to-date

I have used the SF diagnostic too and attached the result here. There is no dump file, although I have enabled it.

Welcome

Have you updated to the latest firmware of the SSD?

Several BAD_POOL_CALLER errors. Alienware laptop running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit on an Intel Core i7 chipset. The error is replicable basically every time the computer comes out of sleep.

Tried updating the drivers for Realtek Audio, etc. as those are often implicated in these problems, based on what I've read. Only hardware/software change recently was instlaling some VPN hardware (already uninstalled). Also running ESET security on this laptop.

Files attached. Thank you!!!

A:BSOD when laptop recovers from sleep or lid close BAD_POOL_CALLER

Probably caused by : HssDrv.sys ( HssDrv+2bac ) Hotspot shield Free VPN for iPhone, Android, Mac and Windows for secure and private browsing, accessing blocked sites and unblocking Facebook and Youtube - Hotspot Shield

Uninstall: Hotspot shield

Additional Advice:

msconfig - boot faster and crash less.

1. Click on the Windows 7 start icon in the bottom left corner of your screen.

2. Type msconfig in the search box and then either press enter on your keyboard or double-click on the msconfig program that appears in the search results.

3. Windows 7 will launch Microsoft's System Configuration Utility. Click on the Startup tab.

4. This takes you to a page with a list of "startup items." Startup items are programs that are automatically loaded every time you turn on your computer. Some startup programs are absolutely necessary e.g Anti Virus, others are simply a waste of RAM.

5. Click on the OK button.

6. A message will pop up telling you that you must restart your computer before these changes will take effect. Click on "Restart" and your computer will automatically reboot.

7. That's it! Your computer should now boot faster and crash less.

If you ever want to turn on any of the startup items you disabled with msconfig , just run msconfig again.

I 've added an external keyboard and an external monitor to my HP Envy m7-n011dx laptop.  Both are recognized by the laptop if I leave the lid open.  When I close the lid the computer goes into sleep mode, and I cannot use the laptop with the attached keyboard and monitor. How do I instruct the laptop not to go into sleep mode when I close the lid so I can use the attached keyboard and monitor? Many thanks! MPBEqual

I recently did a Windows 10 update to my Lenovo Yoge Ideapad  11 S on July 16th and now my touch screen does not work. When I check the drivers for my monitor and touch screen I noticed the driver was missing. I cannot get Lenovo or Microsoft to fix this. What else can I do to get that driver back ?

Hello Dws520Thanks for using the Lenovo forums. Was this the creators update?
If so, have a look on the following post, this should show if your device has been tested with the update yet:
https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/solutions/ht503655

From what I can see, your unit does not seems to have made the list, which leads me to believe that this will be the cause of the issue, I would recommend that you revert back to the previous version of Windows, and observe if the fault still occurs or not.

Hope this helps, let us know how you get on.==================================================================================Did someone help you today? Thank them with a Kudo! If you find a post helpful and it answers your question, please mark it as an "Accepted Solution"!

Anyone else seeing this?  I'm connected to a Onlink Pro dock.  After upgrading to the latest BIOS version I am no longer able to put the system to sleep by closing the laptop.  The monitors connected to my dock continue to display and the laptop does not enter sleep mode.

Hello,
I have the Dell XPS 13, i5, with the Win 10 OS (64 bit) - just got it not long ago.
When I put the laptop on Sleep Mode (Either if I close the lid, or if I do it from the "Start Menu" and choose the "Sleep" option), the Laptop goes to sleep, and then wakes up immediately (after 2-3 seconds) with no apparent reason. If I immediately try to make it "sleep" again, it wakes up again after 2-3 seconds. It is like it refuses to sleep. The only way to fix it, is to restart the laptop, which sometimes fixes the problem, only until it happens again - and I notice too late when my battery is empty.
It deprives me of relying on the Sleep Mode, which is really 50% of the user experience on a SSD laptop.
How can I fix this?

Thank you
Boaz

A:Laptop goes to sleep when I close the lid, then it wakes up by itself and stays ON and drains battery

Put it to sleep with the lid open.  After it wakes, open an admin command prompt and type the following.. Let us know what it says.
powercfg -lastwake

My brand new Yoga 720 is seriously bent (one corner is up by 3 mms). I have sent back immediately to offical Lenovo service. They sent it back with a report that it is fully operable. Since then, I have a wedge in my notebook case and all I have to do is put it under my notebook if I use it. Now I know which brand not to buy next time.

Tried reinstalling the os several times with no gain and also tried installing everything in a blank hardisk (I mean total blank without any lenovo/system partitions). The issue persists for a very long time now. Could it be hardware? Its very difficult for me to keep it in my bag as it starts automatically when the protruding power button is pressed!
