I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Iím having trouble with my internet connection on my desktop PC, running Windows XP SP3. I connect through a router/modem provided by my ISP, connected to my PC with a LAN cable (no WiFi). It was working fine until a week ago. Now when I boot my PC, the connection indicator shows a ďlimited or no internet connectionĒ; when I load Firefox, it tries to load my home page for a few seconds, then shows a ďserver not foundĒ message.

The router and internet connection should be fine; when I plug my laptop (using Windows 7) into the router, it works normally.

Iím wondering if the problem could be related to some of the network/internet based stuff Iíve been fiddling with the last weeks Ė Iíve installed SugarSync and updated LogMeIn on the desktop PC a little before the internet connection stopped working (but both worked for a time), and I set up a local ad-hoc wireless network with the XP desktop as a host a few times so I could use both PCs online at once. (interestingly, I never managed to access my XP machine on the network from my laptop, and only once did I manage to access my desktop directly through my laptop (connecting the two with a LAN cable) Ė a second try didnít work). I donít recall fiddling with any of the adapter settings, though, so I canít see that really being the problem. I donít know if any of my services could be a problem Ė my only antivirus program is AVG, and has never created trouble before. Windows Update is trying to continue down... Read more

I have this problem with my home wireless network for quite sometime. I am using cable broadband with the motorola modem and aztech router.

The problem is that my internet connection drops suddenly everyday... I will power off my modem and router, restart it but still cannot get internet access. after a few tries, it might come back...

I have tested my router at my friend's place and it is working fine. So i thought it's the modem problem, so i also went to test the modem at my friend's place and it's working fine too. I even bought new ethernet cable.

I do not know much about hardwares and wireless networking. I do hope I can find the problem and get it solved soon...

how many pcs are connected on your network and do they all work ok except yours ?

would you post the following tests when the internet is working OK, and then repeat ALL the tests when the internet disconnects.
Make sure you also indicate on the reply which tests are for what condition.

As you are connected by wireless, please include the xirrus screen shots for both conditions - see how below.

Please post back here the make and exact model of the router and the make and exact model of the modem.

Please make a note of the status of the lights on the modem and on the router when working normally - post that light status here.
Now when the internet disconnects make a note of the status of the lights for the modem and router here again. also note which have changed.

Hi to all,

I am using a broadband internet of a provider named BSNL,through a simple modem. Recently I got a Beetel 450BX1 ADSL2 + Router and want to use the wireless capability of the laptop so that I don't have to be glued to my table. The OS I'm using is Windows 7 Ultimate (32 bit) on an HP Compaq 6515b.

I configured the modem by following the instructions in the following link--

I believe that's a straightforward method for configuring a router, and that accomplishing this is very simple.
I followed the steps, only changed the username and password to that given by BSNL.

Then, finally I unplugged the LAN cable and clicked on Connect to <connection name>, punched in the serial key. But it does not connect and says "Windows was unable to connect". Even after using Windows Network Troubleshooter the problem is not solved.

Now I think there can't be any problem with the router otherwise it would not be configured in the first place.

Please help me solve this problem.

Hello, I am not very technologically inclined so this may be a simple solution. Sometimes my wifi signal will randomly drop and I cannot browse the Internet. The network still appears on my computer and I can connect to it, however Internet pages will not load. This lasts for hours, sometimes days. If I unplug the modem from the router and connect directly to the modem via Ethernet, everything works fine! I have tried unplugging everything for 1 minute then plugging it back in and it does nothing. Help please!!

I have a dell inspiron laptop. Core i3. It works fantastically. However, it will randomly disconnect from the internet and then reconnect (usually) soon after. Sometimes I need to restart the computer, or the modem/router but that's only a temporary fix. It prevents me from playing any multiplayer games or talking with people. Sometimes I can't even get Netflix to run because of it. Any suggestions? Thanks.

And by the way, my Macbook works fine.

A:Windows 7 laptop drops connection when my router and modem are working

You should look for wireless drivers from the manufacturer.

Also look for a firmware update. A lot of times a firmware update on the router will fix a disconnection issue.

Well, here is my set-up. I have my modem which connected to a Netgear router, model WGR614 v6, which is connected to my pc and xbox 360.
Well i bought the router about 2 years ago for my laptop, but then my laptop gave out on me. So I have been using my router so that i can be on my Xbox and pc at the same time.
Well, yesterday I found a wireless adaptor in my grandma's house for the xbox 360 so i decided to see if it still worked since my cousions no longer need it. It connected fine to my wireless network.
Now today, everything went corrupt. Now if i connect my pc and 360 to my router, it does not work. But if I connect the pc straight to the modem, with no router, internet works fine. When I connect my router, it says that it has limited or no connectivity, what can this be? Did my wireless xbox 360 connection mess everything up?

Setup I have:
Win XP Home Laptop.
Win XP Pro Desktop (ex-Vista)
Belkin Wireless G Router
RCA DHG535 modem (with Thomson-whatever cable)

I just changed the desktop's O/S from Vista to XP Pro. This whole setup was working fine on Vista, but now it doesn't work on XP Pro.

After installing XP Pro, I followed the steps of installing the Belkin software from their CD. Installation stops midway saying that there's a "problem communicating with the router." Looked at their site, the manual, etc. Nothing helpful.

I tried to run ipconfig from the Command Prompt. It shows nothing. I can't find a way to change the IP Address, or any of the other info.

I'm on the laptop now, getting wireless connection from neighbors, I guess.

What is it that I'm missing, when I only changed the O/S (No hardware changes whatsoever)?
Please help; I need to get it up and running ASAP.

In Network Connections in the Control Panel, the category Broadband and Dial-up are both disconnected, while the category LAN or High Speed Internet is connected. I have tried repairing the connections, disconnecting the modem/wireless router, but nothing has worked yet.

My Modem (Webstar brand), connects into my wireless router's internet port (Netgear), and in the the first LAN port the ethernet cable plugs into that and directly into my pc. I have established that the internet is completely fine, as i connected this laptop to the first LAN port of the router, and got a connection.

I am working under Windows XP, and have a Dell Dimension 5100 desktop.

I've been using a D-Link EBR-2310 (wired) router in conjunction with Time Warner Road Runner Internet service for several years now. The other day, we decided to upgrade our service to cover telephone as well. As a result, Road Runner came in and replaced our old modem with a new one that works for both telephone and internet. The problem is, the D-link router does not work with this new modem. If I connect the computer directly to the modem, everything works fine. But the modem... no luck.

The model and make of the modem is: Arris Touchstone Telephony Modem, Model TM602G.

What I have tried in a nutshell...

Cloned PC's MAC Address on router
Power Cycled Everything
Updated Router to latest firmware

What I have tried in detail

Normally when the internet is connected, the modem has a "Link" light which flashes somewhat quickly. When it is hooked up to the WAN port of the router, it does not flash. Curiously, though, if I hook it up to a LAN port on the router, it flashes as if it works. But there's still no internet. And when I access the router's settings through a web browser (entering in, it shows no IP address.

D-Link provided a set of step-by-step instructions which I found under their FAQ, how to configure the router to work with cable. They basically went through cloning my PC's MAC address, power cycling both the modem and router in a specified order/duration, and telling the router to renew its DHCP release.

i'm running WinXP, with a Linksys router. the connection is great as i have two laptops currently using the wireless connection. i attempted to create a new network connection, thinking it might find the problem and fix it, but the desktop still can't see the server.

at the command prompt, i ran ipconfig /all and this is what i get:

I have a significant problem with my computers not recognizing my d-link router. I screwed something up today and now my router won't work. I have had the router for years working just fine, but today I was trying to connect a new kindle which wouldn't connect to the Wi-Fi and I lost the router after screwing around with configuration.

Basically I've been trying to re-install the router, I changed the SSID but it appears the d-link quick router setup software recognizes the modem as the router and won't re-intall my router thus denying me access. Has anyone ever ran into a situation such as this? Please help...

A:D-Link Software recognizing modem as Router, router not working

Find the reset switch (usually a smal hole and you press a paper clip into it for ~5sec).

That will bring it back to day-1 default settings.

Unless you are attaching to the modem/router using USB, there's no software to be installed
(that's only used for USB) - -
just cable the eithernet cable to a LAN port on the router and then you can configure it

In the past i have come to this website and got some great help from the people here, i appreciate the help i been given, and im back again, with a brand new problem, which i cant seem to figure out at all.

Not totally sure of all the information i should be putting here, but here goes.

System: Windows XP Pro 2002 SP3
Specs: Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2200 @ 2.2 GHz 2.2 GHz, 2GB of RAM
Modem: BT Homehub 2.0
Network Adapter: Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111(P) PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC
Driver version: 5.714.122.2009

My PC is custom built, i always connect to the internet through an ethernet cable, i have tried a few different cables, and they all do not work, but they work in my dads Xbox 360.

The internet works fine, as im using my dads laptop on the internet connection, to do this post, therefore the modem itself is not to blame.

I have tried all my software to see if its a virus or trojan which is blocking the connection, but according to those my PC is clean.

It must be a setting in the PC, but i got no idea what, its funny because my PC has not had trouble for a long time, and usually i been able to sort it myself but now im scratching my head.

I tried to reinstall the network adapter driver, but this did not work.

I am really sorry if i have not put all the necessary information, i read the post, but it did not tell me exactly what i should be putting down for this kind of problem, i am well prepared to give any information which is required.

I just changed from an old netgear router to a wireless Linksys BEFW11S4 router for my home network. Now I can access the internet wirelessly on my laptop, and I love it.

Except my wife's computer cannot access the internet. It is connected via RJ-45 cable to the router, and it can login to the router, but can't access the internet (email or browsing).

I have two other computers connected through cable, and they both work fine.

I even have a printer shared on my wife's computer and I can print from my laptop, and her computer shows up on the router's DHCP client's table.

My wife is running XP sp2 with a fairly new install (about a month)

I have done all updates I can think of, except a firmware upgrade on the router. Before I switched the router it was all working fine, but now I'm just scratching my head.

So recently the sound on my desktop and my laptop has stopped working. For seemingly no reason. I really don't understand it.

I first noticed it with my desktop. The sound just randomly stopped working. But not...entirely. It's really strange and complicated what's been happening, so bare with me while I try to explain it as best I can.

First time sound stopped working on PC. Restarted computer, sound came back, no issues.

Second time I woke up to find VLC frozen. Sound wasn't working. I restarted VLC. No sound. Found out that there was no sound on the computer at all. When I'd try to increase the volume on VLC, it would only change within an interval of ten percent. So it was at 50 percent initially. Would not let me go below 50%, but not above 10%. Sound didn't work anyway. Restarted, sound returned VLC working fine.

Third time I was playing Dragon Age: Inquisition. Sound worked fine, using my headset (Turtle Beach). Went to speakers to lay down and watch some shows on VLC. No sound on speakers. Switched to Turtle Beach again, sound returned. Restarted VLC, now suddenly no sound on VLC OR speakers. Had to restart computer, no issues after restart.

First time sound stopped working, used the "disable audio and reenable audio driver," didn't solve anything. Restarted, sound came back. Sound stopped working again same day, restarted, sound came back.

The next time I restarted the audio driver (Realtek) and then I shut down Explorer and then restar... Read more

A:Sound on Laptop and Desktop Randomly Stops Working and Working

Update: I'm not at home to test my PC, but I think I discovered the issue. It seems to possibly be a glitch or something with flash player.

After watching an episode of Daily Show on Hulu, I went back to Tumblr and saw that a video didn't have sound, and then all sound on my computer was suddenly gone. I then tried something out, and shut down flashplayer. That temporarily brought sound back.

But it quickly went away.

Then I shut down Firefox and flash player entirely, and sound comes back even when Flash Player comes up.

Hi I'm kind of new to this so please bear with me.

I currently have 3 computers in the house that are connected through a wired connection. The internet is provided by Comcast and we have a 5 port wired router as well. The modem supplies the internet and then the modem is connected to an uplink on the port switch. On the routerthere's 1 ethernet cable to the main computer, 1 to another computer, 1 to the Xbox 360, and another to a wireless adapter type of thing.

Now all the lights are on and the activity light is blinking like it always is but the internet is still only working on the main computer. So it says everything is working but its not. I've called Comcast and they said there's no problems and that the connection should be working fine and its just a problem with my router.

I've tried the power cycle and it would usually work but this time around nothing's been working. Tried resetting the modem and it doesn't fix it.

Need help to get the internet working on all the other computers! Please and thanks

A:Internet is only working on one computer, but router says its working on all?

The following procedure should get you a connection with any broadband modem that is configured to use DHCP for the router connection, such as cable modems, and many DSL modems. If you require PPPoE configuration for the DSL modem, that will have to be configured to match the ISP requirements.

Note that the wireless encryption and channel selection will have to be done after the basic wired connection is established, the first step is to get wired connections working.

Reset the router to factory defaults by holding the reset button down for 15 seconds with power on.
Turn off everything, the modem, router, computer.
Connect the modem to the router's WAN/Internet port.
Connect the computer to one of the router's LAN/Network ports.
Turn on the modem, wait for a steady connect light.
Turn on the router, wait for two minutes.
Boot the computer.

When the computer is completely booted, let's see this.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous command output!

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

The exact models of the router and the broadband modem would be a big help...

First off, you should probably reset the router to factory defaults, since it sounds like it's settings may be compromised somehow.

Turn off everything, router, modem, computer.

Plug the modem into the WAN port of the router, plug the computer into one of the LAN ports of the router.

Power on the modem, wait for it to sync.

Power on the router, give it a couple minutes to stabilize

Boot the machine, see if you're not back on...

Hello out there

You might be my last chance to crack this problem I'm facing

I have a Netgear CVD31T modem delivered by my internet provider. I can't change any settings on the modem. My connection speed is 30 gb up and 5 GB down.
Until now I used a Linksys WRT54GV ver. 2 router to share my connection between my computers and NAS server and it worked ok. In speed tests I normally get approx 25 - 28 GB speed. To optain more speed on my LAN I want to buy a GB router. And here started my problems. First I tried a D-link DIR655, then a Netgear WNDR3700 and latest a Linksys E3000. I all 3 occations my WAN speed droped drasticaly down to between 3 - 5 GB speed, at under a ping test I have a loss of between 10 - 30 % and time on approx 50 ms.

If I connect my PC directly to the modem or re-connect my old router it works perfect. I have tried to replace cables etc. etc.

Does anyone know a solution???

Hi, I have a netgear WNDR3400 100nar router, dual band, 2.4ghz and 5ghz. I set up 2 connections. On the 2.4ghz I set up a WEP connection with 64 bit encryption for my wireless repeater (WNR2000). On the 5ghz i set up WPA2 for regular use. Unfortunately my computer does not support 5ghz or atleast i dont think it does. My samsung tv picks up the 5ghz so I connected to that, the macbook pro connects to the 5ghz. The other computer I want on the 2.4 ghz with the repeater. Hardlined via ethernet anything and everything works. For some reason 2.4ghz wont connect wirelessly and does not even give me the option to enter the hex key. just says unable to connect. the 2.4 doesn't work on anything (currently the repeater is offline until I can fix this issue). Infact, ignore the repeater info. I think there is a problem with the distribution of the IP addresses. Could they be overlapping between the 2.4 and the 5? The next item on the network (tv) using 5ghz, occupies sequence 2 under the ip address....whatever the default is it would occupy I have reformatted my computer, uninstalled and reinstalled network drivers, as much as I could do with the computer itself so I'm assuming it is the router. I've disconnected it and reconnected it, reset it, redone the whole network multiple times, renewed the IP address. What is going on? Can anyone help me please.

I get a red X over the internet icon and my router will no longer recognize any networks. I called my ISP and the manufacture of my Belkin router. So I went out and bought a brand new Net Gear router. Still not working. I called Net Gear and they think it's my wireless card?

Is there a way to determine for sure if its a hardware problem?

Maybe I need to download a driver?

Is there a wireless switch on my laptop?

Do I need to configure my new router? I'm hoping to use my Belkin router if it's just a driver problem so I can take back the new router and get my money back.

What are some first steps to take? If you need more information, please let me know. Thank you!

Check the wireless is switched ON
theres often a physical switch or a combination of the FN and one of the F keys to toggle the wireless on/off
often F2 is used - but note , not always - look for a symbol that looks a little like (( i ))

is the wireless on?

Run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector
Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file to the faulty PC and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply

Download this file "DOWNLOAD WI-FI INSPECTOR Vx.xx "

On Thursday (technically it's Friday now in the UK) I was setting up a Synology DS414 for my Church. No problems setting it up, works fine for both PC & Mac over local LAN, however it has a method of setting up Port Forwarding via UPNP or manually via a small and select list of routers. This is where I get problems, if I go to configure a router then it will recognise the Router & although it takes a while (probably at least 5 minutes if not longer), it adds its own Port forwarding to the router but it will fail the test for three of the ports (21, 80, 5000).

My Church has a frustratingly complex setup, they had a Belkin N+ ADSL Modem Router, changed ISP & had problems with web pages which turned out to be something to do with the DNS servers, changed those to Google and OpenDNS & it worked fine, anyway they decided to change hardware to future proof the system (as it were) didn't carry over the DNS changes that I told them about & had the same web page problems again. However instead of going down the simple route and getting a Router with integrated modem they decided to get two seperate pieces of hardware, the reason being that they wanted the Netgear Nighthawk (R7000) because it had faster WiFi Speeds than its ADSL Counterpart (not that this now matters as the two people that wanted the fast speeds can't get them because the 5GHz network doesn't play nice with concrete walls).

So using the Nighthawk then required an ADSL Modem so they bought the TP-L... Read more

let me explain

in my family's house we have two desktops (cable connection) and two laptops (wireless connection)

the connection with the internet has always been fine until 2 months ago our family went on holidays for 2 months and we came back and i figured out that the internet connection on 1 of the main desktop we use no longer working, however on all of the other 3 computers we have the internet is fine with no problems at all.

the main desktop's connection would sometimes work however most of the times it doesn't work, even when it does work it would only be for a short period of time of around 1 hour then it would go into dead mode again and unable to connect.

i have tryed to reset the modern and router many times, i also been in the connection status to disable the connection as well as turning off the router and modern for the whole night then reswitch it back on and still the problem still occurs.

i would like to know if anyone has any ideas what the problem might be and how to solve it if possible, if there are any steps by steps instruction that anyone has, please may you put it down.

notice: All of my other 3 computers' connections are totally fine and i tryed changing the cable before which didn't solve the problem.
i even rebooted my whole comp before and did not help the situation.

anything that might be able to help please post, thanks

Hope this isn't confusing but, my internet provider (my cable company) came in to set up a wireless modem/router when we upped our internet speed today. We have three desktop computers which are hard wired to our existing Linksys router which we have been using previously. Would it be in our best interest to turn off the wireless function of that router (it's hooked up to the new modem/wireless router so the hardwired computers can function since the new unit has no ports to plug in the desktop computers into). Our wireless devices are all 'connected' to the new modem/router (using its passphrase and SSID). Can the wireless capabilities of each interfere with each other? They are sitting right next to each other.

A:Solved: Internet provider wireless modem/router and my hard wired router

It's confusing to me, but can make two comments ...

a. If you are not using the wireless network of a router it's best to disable or turn off the wireless--saves electricity and should extend the life of the router.

b. Two wireless networks whose channel numbers are less than five from each other can interfere. In North America if possible use channels 1, 6 and 11 to guarantee non interference.

Ok I've searched all over the Internet for hours and still havnt found the solution I've been looking for. Excuse me for any mistakes or leaving something out I'll do my best.
I just bought an asus ul50vt laptop(windows 7) without a hard drive. I bought a new hard drive separately which is a Fujitsu 2.5" 120gb. Everything on and in the laptop is all manufacture so nothing has been replaced or changed.

So heres the issue. I popped the hdd in my asus and powered it on an I got missing bootmgr. So I put in the windows 7 dvd(burnt not original) but it just attempts to read and automatically goes and tries to boot from the new hdd. And it's goes in the same cycle. So I had the idea to disconnect the hdd in my desktop and connect the new hdd to my desktop. I booted from the same windows 7 installation DVD but this time the the desktop gave me the option to boot from dvd(it said press any key to boot from cd) so I installed windows 7, went through the whole process and used it like a brand new computer. I shut the desktop down, disconnected the new hdd and reconnected it to my asus. It started to boot but when it got to "starting windows", it froze for about 1/2 second and the blue screen came on for mayne 1/4 of a second at the most. Then restarted itself into the same cycle. I tried the windows 7 DVD but it again Acted like it read it and went straight to the hdd into the cycle again.

Hi there, Welcome to SF

Couple of points, firstly i dont think theres anything wrong, i believe the only problem is that your machine is not booting from the disc its trying to boot the HDD which was initially blank and then from another machine hence the blue screen.

All you need to do is get the HDD in the target machine and get it to boot from disk by hitting F2 on startup and selecting it, then you should be good for claen install formatting drive on the way Clean Install Windows 7 guidelines here

I own two routers - D-Link DSL-504 (ADSL, not wireless) and D-Link DIR-635 (wireless).

The set-up used to be like this:
- Internet (ADSL) cable pluged in DSL-504 router
- PC connected to DSL-504 via Ethernet port
- DIR-635 connected to DSL-504 (Ethernet port to 'Internet' port) - DSL-504 works as a 'modem'
- Laptop wirelessly connected to DIR-635

Everything has worked (note: it wasn't me who set this up).

Unfortunatelly I have reseted the DIR-635 (wireless router) because of some troubles. Now the wireless router doesn't connect to the Internet. I can connect either computer via cable with the first router and it works like a dream. Computers can also see the DIR-365 router when connected to it via cable, but it does not see the Internet.

I've switched the setup on and off several times. Cables work. Computers work, they can see Internet from other sources.

I guess I need to configure the wireless router in some certain way, but I really have no idea, how.

I'd be grateful for your help.

A:Solved: Router cannot connect to Internet (via another router used as a modem)

Probably IP Address conflict as both D-Links would usually use for default internal (LAN) IP.

You would need to change the LAN IP address of the DIR-615 to another subnet such as for a modem LAN port to router WAN (Internet) port connection unless the DIR-615 can be set as an access point. Will need to check the User Manual to see. Will pull up a PDF and check.

Another option would be to set up using the following method by John Will.
Connecting two soho routers in a network
Tutorial from Johnwill from the Networking Forum

Note: The "primary" router can be an actual router, a software gateway like Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing, or a server connection that has the capability to supply more than one IP address using DHCP server capability. No changes are made to the primary "router" configuration.

Configure the IP address of the secondary router(s) to be in the same subnet as the primary router, but out of the range of the DHCP server in the primary router. For instance DHCP server addresses through, I'd assign the secondary router as it's IP address, for another router, etc.

Note: Do this first, as you will have to reboot the computer to connect to the router again for the remaining changes.

Disable the DHCP server in the secondary router.

Setup the wireless section just the way you would if it was the primary router, channels, encryption, etc.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the PCMCIA and still I get the no dial tone message. There is no error number, just the message. I think I will order a new PCMCIA modem but I am still not sure that is the problem. I ran a diagnostics program on the computer and the modem test failed but I have had that happen before on other components and it wasn't necessarily so. Some Website Hacked you while you were Browsing.

You need to get some rescue software pronto. I'd recommend "Hijack Blaster", "Spybot Search & Destroy", "Adaware", and Grisoft's AVG antivirus program.

Run the lot and see if it catches whatever they downloaded on you.

Before you go back online turn on Window's Firewall, or get some other one to use.

If anyone else knows of another package to clean of this type of invader hopefully they'll chime in.

Plug the network cable into the modem and try it again.

gonna try to make this as easy to understand as possible. my network is/has been set up like this:

#1- cable comes from the wall into the modem
#2 - a line then goes from the modem to a D-Link (615) wireless router. this router supplied a few connections, including...
#3 - a line that went from the D-link to a Linksys WRT-GS wireless router. this is the router my PC is hardwired too.

This network setup worked perfect, i had ZERO issues.

2 days ago, the router in the middle(the D-link) died. i had a few other routers sitting around (a linksys wrt-G, and a TP-LINK wireless N), i thought i would be able to just put one of these in the D-Link's place and i would be up and running again... NOPE!

no matter what i do or try, i can not get #3 router to pick up an internet connection from whatever router is directly connected to the modem. the router that is directly connected to the modem has internet, no problems... but that router will not sent the 2nd router the info it needs to get online as well.

SO im not sure what the problem is, i have spent many hours messing around in the router setup pages for all 3 routers, changing IP's DNS's, advanced routing options(router mode or gateway mode), releasing and renewing DHCP's, resetting to factory defaults.... a lot of this stuff i dont understand. i even tried swapping places with them, to see if maybe one liked being the host more then another, no dice.

is there some magic combination that i am missing here? ... Read more

Good afternoon!

I have a two HP machines - a desktop running Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit, and a laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

I've been having network/internet issues with the laptop for the past week that have reached a low point today. Previous to today, the laptop would frequently lose internet access for a few minutes. Eventually it would reconnect. Today, however, I am getting the "No Internet access" message with the little yellow ! sign down in the task bar and no amount of begging/pleading/resetting will make it go away. I am apparently still connected to the home network itself - just no internet.

My desktop, on the other hand, is connecting to the internet just fine. Both connect wirelessly, by the way.

As the desktop seems to be fine, I am assuming that this issue is with the laptop itself and not with the router. I don't have access to the router anyway - I rent my apartment, internet is included, but connected via a router in my landlord's apartment next door. They're away for a few days, so I'm out of luck, for now, if you ask me to do something with that equipment!

Any help would, of course, be most appreciated!
