Unable To Restore My System To Previous Dates, Clicking On The Back Arrow On The Restore Calender Is Not Working

Q: Unable To Restore My System To Previous Dates, Clicking On The Back Arrow On The Restore Calender Is Not Working

I have Windows Defender and McAfee Security Center anti virus softwares. When I run them they are telling that I does'nt have any virus. But I am unable to Go to previous restore points and many exe files are missing in the C:\Window\System folder."Warning! Spyware detected on your computer. Install an antivirus or spyware removal to clean your computer." error came on the desktop.Whole desktop was white with an orange color box in between with the above warning.Antivirus2008 something like that was installed on the desktop and in the control panel...so 1. first I removed the software icon from the desktop and the control panel.Next I went to System32 and removed the recent files.2, But I was Unable to restore to go to a previous date to get rid of the virus. My System restore is infected I believe.I don't have that much knowledge in this field. So kindly let me know in detail what I can do to remove the whole virus.Yes System restore was working properly before.I noticed this as soon as the the virus came. I have ran the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware but still I am unable to go back to my previous system restore points and system is operation very slowly...Please find the log file here:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 11:18:56 AM, on 8/20/2008Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MsMpEng.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\AOL\ACS\AOLacsd.exeC:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate\ALUSchedulerSvc.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\PIF\{B8E1DD85-8582-4c61-B58F-2F227FCA9A08}\PIFSvc.exeC:\Program Files\McAfee\MBK\MBackMonitor.exeC:\PROGRA~1\McAfee\MSC\mcmscsvc.exec:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\mcafee\mna\mcnasvc.exec:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\mcafee\mcproxy\mcproxy.exeC:\PROGRA~1\McAfee\VIRUSS~1\mcshield.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7DEBUG\MDM.EXEC:\Program Files\McAfee\MPF\MPFSrv.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\WLTRYSVC.EXEC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\WINDOWS\System32\bcmwltry.exec:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mcagent.exeC:\PROGRA~1\McAfee\VIRUSS~1\mcsysmon.exeC:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\jusched.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\WLTRAY.exeC:\Program Files\Dell\QuickSet\quickset.exeC:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\dla\tfswctrl.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\issch.exeC:\Program Files\Dell\MediaDirect\PCMService.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\PIF\{B8E1DD85-8582-4c61-B58F-2F227FCA9A08}\PIFSvc.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exeC:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MSASCui.exeC:\WINDOWS\V0400Mon.exeC:\Program Files\Winamp\winampa.exeC:\Program Files\SweetIM\Messenger\SweetIM.exeC:\Program Files\McAfee\MBK\McAfeeDataBackup.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxpers.exeC:\WINDOWS\stsystra.exeC:\Program Files\NetWaiting\netWaiting.exeC:\Program Files\Dell Support\DSAgnt.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxsrvc.exeC:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exeC:\Program Files\Picasa2\PicasaMediaDetector.exeC:\Program Files\Creative\Creative Live! Preferred Solution: Unable To Restore My System To Previous Dates, Clicking On The Back Arrow On The Restore Calender Is Not Working

For anything regarding erasing your history and maintaining privacy, I really recommend downloading History Fixer. It deletes all traces of online and offline computer activity including Internet searches, history and chat sessions. Includes a file shredder feature.

You can download it direct from this link http://goo.gl/7JS9gZ. (This link will automatically start a download of History Fixer that you can save to your computer.)

A:I Am Unable To Restore My System To Previous Dates

Did you remove the infection from your system? If so, describe how did you remove it?
Can you describe what you were infected with?

Was System Restore working properly before the infection? System Restore has been known to stop functioning at times and its not always malware related.

I made a System Image to an external USB drive months ago and had a system crash.
I replaced the HD's and attempted a System Image Recovery by booting up using the System Recovery Disk I made and having the external USB drive connected.
When the System Image Recovery tries to scan for backup images it can not find them. I can browse the USB drive using the DOS prompt and the system sees the image backup files.
So I did a clean install on the system and attempted recovering the system image back again.
Still could not recover.
I then did a test System Image to the USB drive successfully and then attempted to recover, system can not find the backup files, but I do see the backup files in the \WindowsImageBackup folder on the USB drive.

A:Backup & Restore - Unable to Find Previous System Image

Just to confirm your test image after a clean install was made successfully to an external USB HDD called say G:
In G:\ you have a folder called WindowsImageBackup

Are you using Backup & Restore from the >Recover system settings or your computer>advanced recovery methods>Use a system image you created earlier>skip backup.......etc.

estore system settings and previous versions of file is greyed out on my system, I may have disabled a required service for this, can anyone point me to the right direction for this?

As I'm about to try the X-Fi MB2 mod again as the last time I tried it my system was messed up that it wont even recognize my actual X-Fi card properly. So I'm thinking a system restore can help me with this experiment.

A:System Restore - Restore system settings and previous versions of file

I'd start with system restore. Make sure it's enabled.

System Restore - Enable or Disable

Other things to check are system restore configuration, making sure system protection is turned on, and some general troubleshooting steps for system restore.

Hello experts

I recently installed a program that promised 'the moon", you know, Make your system faster, recover lost memory, speed everything up, etc., etc, etc!!

Yup, I should have known better!! BUT, temptation won over me again!! The name of the program by the way is PC BOOSTER. I am sure that many of you have heard of it!!

Well, after it installed and automatically decided what to change, adjust and "optimize" (HA!) it required that Windows must restart. I said OK. Then Windows would not restart. I can't even explain what the heck it was doing but restarting was NOT IT.

Well, I put my Windows XP CD in the CD drive and re-booted. WIn XP offdered to REPAIR or SETUP (from scratch). I thought repair sounded like the right thing. However, I was then asked to enter the Administrator password. Since I never established any such thing I entered nothing (blank) and prssed ENTER. It just asked me for that password 2 more times and then forced me to re-start. GREAT....back to where I started.

My goal was to restart WIN XP and then run System Restore. When I finally did get Windows to restart (which I can't explain either) System Restore left me hanging with "no previous checkpoints to restore to"!! I don't get it!! System Restore had been "monitoring" like it's supposed to" so, WHY NO PREVIOUS CHECKPOINTS TO RESTORE TO??

Can anyone explain any of this to me??
I'm just a cavity....fill me in??

Thanks

Hello everyone

I recently ran Advanced System Optimizer 3 and optimized my system in a hurry. Without thinking and to my regret, I did not manually create a system restore point before doing this.

I have noticed several changes (albeit non-major but nonetheless uncomfortably different) with my use.

1. Certain thumbnails/links which are supposed to have images on them now appear to be broken (that paper torn in half sign instead)

2. Hotmail's autocomplete whenever you start typing an email addresses' first few words no longer functions.

I have yet to discover more irregularities but as far as I know Advanced System Optimizer must have removed or deleted something after I clicked optimize now which is causing all these.

I tried to system restore it to a time before I actually ran the optimization which was about 9 am on 9th of November 2011 but all I see is an 11 am restore point on the same day in the restore point list. When I click show me more restore points, it does not show me more but remains with just the 1 point which I've said.

Is my case already a goner and it's already too late to turn back or is it possible to somehow access more previous restore points? It would be better still to access a 8th of November 2011 restore point (which again presently shows only the 9th of November point and nothing else), BEFORE I did a scan of the system even and just revert everything to how it once was.

A:System Restore not showing more restore points after clicking the box

Here's a follow up to my case, I've managed to solve problem no.1 as I found out that it occurred in almost all websites I tried to access. It mainly showed the HTML coding instead of all the usual colours and decorations. So what I did was hold shift and click refresh and it solved everything including the thumbnail not appearing issue. Apparently after doing this everytime I returned to those sites it didn't give any problems.

The Hotmail issue still persists though. I am quite an email heavy user and find this quite annoying. Whenever I click reply, it's as if I'm composing a completely new email with no address in the bar, no RE: subject and no previous incoming email which I can refer to in replying that email. The autocomplete email address email still persists.

Any help on this?

Edit: It all eventually solved itself.

I dont have the money for a zip repair that can unzip 5 gig .zip folders (if someone has a link to a free one thatd be nice), and I defragging and error-checking didnt fix them. Also ,Seems like whenever I run a system restore before when i .zipped them (so i cand get them back to be unzipped, yellow folders) it says I cannot restore to this date, no matter which date I try...

How can i Sys. restore and get the files out of my corrupt .zips?

Is there a way for me to go back to the previous OS?

A:Can you restore back to previous OS?

Yes, there is a way...obtain recovery disks from the manufacturer of the system, if available.

Formatting erased any hidden partitions...which may have contained the files for doing a restore-to-factory-defaults.

Recovery disks may or may not be dependent upon files installed by Dell on the hard drive...I own no Dell systems so I can't say.

I installed new drivers for SIS video display and Logitech Webcam(as advised by microsoft updates) . A few days later, after the PC was turned on it rebooted itself and i got the usual options, last known config, start windows normally, safe mode etc. It wouldn't start in safe mode, wouldn't start with last known config so i started it normally. I ended up with a 4 bit display setting on my screen. I rebooted the pc and it was ok...so i rolled back the display driver and the logitech driver. (for various other pc problems i have been having with reboots) i tried to restore the pc to a day before i installed these drivers but all 3 times have ben unsuccessful. It looks like its restoring ok til it gets to the welcome screen then says Restore was unable to be completed. Your settings have not been changed....any ideas?

Hello everyone, not sure why but I get an error every time I open the System Restore. I rarely have to use a restore point as I regularly maintain my computer and check for viruses and malware, but I would like to have the option just in case. When I open System Properties, and click the System Protection tab, I get this error and am unable to create a Restore Point. Attached is a screenshot and a DxDiag.txt. Any insight to this problem would be helpful, perhaps I have some windows feature disabled that I might need enabled, I am not sure. I recently did a complete reformat of my hard drive and a fresh install of Windows, maybe two months ago, and somewhere along the line I must have removed/disabled something I need for System Restore. Even third party maintenance software is unable to create restore points, such as TuneUp Utilities 2014, AVG Internet Security 2014, and UVK. I'm sure the fix for this is simple, I am just unaware of it. Thanks in advance.

So far, two of our clients have been infected with this in the last week, and it's nasty. When you try to close it, it often will pop up a message box that simply says, "I'll be back!". Then it re-opens. Here;s what my team has found so far:

1) Hitman Pro.Kickstart can rip it out, but will not decrypt the files.
2) It will quickly jump to USB and external drives, so make sure you are careful to check anything you put in the system for infected files.
3) So far, I haven't found a way to decrypt the files, but you can restore to a previous version of most of the encrypted files if you have System Protection and shadow copies turned on. Right click the file, choose "Restore previous version...", and select the closest date before the infection. You can do this to entire folders as well, but remember that it recreates the folder COMPLETELY from that date, so newer files may be missing from the backup. It also doesn't work on offline files (files accessed over a network).

I hope this helps. Good luck!

I then proceeded to perform the update - didn't like it as I ran into problems and then went back to restore only to discover that all the earlier dates I had seen before had vanished and there were none available.

Also if I click on previous month it will not go back.

What am I doing wrong and how can I have multiple selections available if I need them? Whey are they disappearing?

I am running WinXP Media Center Home Edition with service pack 2. System restore has saved restore points for software I installed today, Jan 7, 2008, all with dates of Jan 7, 2007. This error is due to my changing the motherboard's CMOS battery earlier today, followed by my incorrectly updating system time in the BIOS to Jan 7, 2007. This was an error I did not detect until after installing software and creating restore points today. The windows clock also showed 2007 as the year until I corrected the system time in the BIOS. Correcting the system BIOS date and Windows clock to the correct year did not correct today's system restore point indicated date.

I would like to correct the year indicated in the system restore utility for today's restore points. As things stand now, system restore shows no changes for Jan 7, 2008. I am hoping this can be done with a registry edit of some sort. I would appreciate any information from anyone as to how to accomplish this, if it is possible to do so. Thank you.

A:Changing system restore point dates

hello & welcome to TSF,

i don't know if you are going to be able to do what you are asking for the time & date is a major part of the restore points !!

i do beleive that by changing this you will then corrupt that file/restore point

you would just be better off just removing those points so that you won't accidently use that setting & create a new one

Hello,

I first noticed that the standard XP Appearance had changed on my system. I then noticed that the XP Theme was missing from my system. I thought of doing a system restore, but I had lost all previous System Restore dates...

In addition to these issues, my system has lost audio playback and previously installed printers. It seems my system has also lost the ability to install printers or uninstall/ install applications...

A Windows Update was recently done, but these issues did not start directly after the Windows Update.

Any help regarding the reason for these issues or a solution to them would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

I saw similar postings here and noted that people were successfully helped removing whatever the rootkit/malware was. This problem happened when i browsed to site coming up in a google search (i don't recall the site). what i do remember is that a java applet started and i tried to close the window, but it wouldn't and popped up a new window which also wouldn't close. Since that event, any google search link i click on (whether from IE or Firefox) brings up some random ecommerce/spam site. Further, i tried performing a system restore, yet no prior dates are available from the wizard, probably meaning the malware has protected itself from being undone. System restore points were not available from either normal or safe mode boot.I have followed all the prep instructions and have pasted/attached the reports. I should note that GMER could only be run successfully from safe mode. Thanks in advance.DDS (Ver_10-03-17.01) - NTFSx86 Run by bcarney at 17:34:28.71 on Sun 04/11/2010Internet Explorer: 7.0.5730.13 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_11Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.1014.130 [GMT -7:00]AV: ThreatFire *On-access scanning enabled* (Updated) {67B2B9A1-25C8-4057-962D-807958FFC9E3}AV: AVG Internet Security 3-pack *On-access scanning enabled* (Updated) {17DDD097-36FF-435F-9E1B-52D74245D6BF}============== Running Processes ===============C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost -k DcomLaunchC:\Program Files\Common Files\iS3... So my little sisters boyfriend deleted all the history on my Google Chrome, 'to free up space' and I think he's been on something weird on my laptop, and want to find out. I googled how to get the history back and the other thing I fully understood was to do a System Restore to back before he deleted it. I did that three times to different points in time, definitely before he did it and it hasn't changed anything. If anyone else has any ideas they would be much appreciated, although please bear in mind I'm not massively great with computers! Thank you

A:How to restore Chrome history, system restore not working?

I don't think you can get it back unless you had a backup, System Restore doesn't affect data so that's why it doesn't work.

Why do you need the History restored anyways?

Hi there!
I have been having a problem with "system restore" the last few days as I had uninstalled NAV which created some problems which have since been fixed...thanks to you guys!!!!

Anyhow..i have been looking to try to do a "system restore" as since this problem with the removal of NAV I have lost my internet connection. System REstore had disappeared but i have since found it...it only shows a current date (date which is after my computer messed up) so i don't expect that it will fix my internet connection problem. I have wireless internet (D-link) and the computer that is messed up is the one without the router attached to it. It shows a strong signal but...no internet connection.

Any thoughts?

I guess i have 2 issues in this thread.... Please let me know if you would like for me to split these up.

Thanks again for all your help so far!!!!

Hello folks,

I have a Toshiba Satellite A505 laptop. In my experience, Toshiba has one of the worst system recovery modules which takes ages to restore. To avoid this issue, I restored my machine to factory settings, deleted crapware, updated and backed up using the tool built into Windows 7.

Now after a while, I successfully messed up the system that it takes 5 minutes to boot and is as slow as a turtle. I am considering system restore using the backup I made on external HDD.

My question is, if I restore using this backup,
- Will it delete ALL the data put on this machine AFTER the backup was made?
- Will it completely restore SYSTEM to the backup settings? i.e. deleting the folders and registry entries added by the programs installed?

Thanks in advance.

(P.S. - I am asking this question because I restored system to a previous date using a 'restore point' but it left all the (emptied) folders made by the installed programs, don't know about registry. In short, it wasn't useful at all.)

Hi fuzzychicken and welcome to Seven Forums.

All the data on the disk you imaged will be set back to the time you made the image. If you need to save any of it you will have to copy it somewhere off the disk first. This will not work for any programs you have installed since the image. You will need to install them again.

No. Restore will restore ALL files and settings to a previous state. On the other hand, if you wanted to restore your system files, then you would have to do a repair install.

Your problem seems to be with "Replay Music" and not Windows XP. I would try reinstalling the application.

Hi all. Could someone help me with the following

I am trying to go back to an earlier setting.
I looked at a number of threads and got my way to the system/system Protection/system property panel as seen above.

Now I see 2 available drives. This machine came with Win 7 Pro already installed to a 1TB WD blue drive. I shortly migrated to an SSD 840 EVO 1TB using their migration software. I suspect that the 2 available drives listed are the existing drive (henseforth designated as SSD) and the "original" drive (henseforth designated as WD HD).

The first red circled drive I note does not have protection enabled! Whereas the one below it has! Why are there 2 when I only have 1 hard disc, the SSD. Is this related to migration? What is the second listed drive? It's protection is ON! However it has "missing" instead of system. Am I to assume that the OS is missing and I am now using the "new" drive ... the SSD and that is where the OS now resides? And why is protedction OFF?
As usual thanks in advance. So far Many have been a lot of help

Could not create the scheduled task for the following reason:

Coincidently this problem started when the last automatic restore point was created on Oct 26, 2008. Since then no other automatic restore points have been created and I can't create one manually either. Due to what I can only guess was,a virus attack,,I had to restore my computer back to factory state from the "System recovery" drive D.This meant of course, losing all my files and applications. However ,the process includes a file back-up feature ,which should be a good thing,,right?
I followed the restore procedure to the letter and apparently succeeded in backing up all my files,documents,etc,.,,62.5 gb to be exact,to an external drive.
Once my comp was restored back to factory and was operating normally,I followed the back up file restore procedure ,that being ,click on the Back-up.1 application.) the only visible item in the BACK-UP FOLDER on the External hard drive.)
The process started normally,,indicating that the files were being located, and proceeded to step 2 which then indicated "restore in progress".This is where it stays,,the progress bar does not move from 0%!!!!!I left it on over night so,,"please wait" is not a factor here!
To sum it all up..the "restore-files" is not functioning.I have even attempted the procedure from the control panel/back up and restore center only to be told that "there are no restore files on this computer",,this is odd,,since I copied the folder from the external drive to the comp hardrive.
So,,the files are there but they are invisible and un-accessable without some HP program..what now?I really do not want to lose the data,
please ,,someone solve this..law

Hi All

A friend of mine has a current issue with XP on his machine and needs to do a system restore. However, the problem he has means that whenever he clicks on the XP START button his PC crashes or hangs.

So, he needs to find a way of invoking System Restore without pressing the START button. I have advised pressing F1 to bring up XP Help, but this doesn't seem to work either.

Is there any other way to achieve this...?

I am using Acronis True Image Home 2010 as my back-up program and have a full back-up and (as of now) one incremental back-up on a portable hard-drive. My question is: should I need to restore my computer's system, how should I do it? That is, restore the full back-up and then the incremental back-up? (I see the size of the incremental back-up is less than 1/2 the size of the full back-up.) Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Not sure when this issue started, so not sure if this has anything to do with XP Pro SP3. System Restore appears to function normally until attempt to restore. Select restore point > confirmation screen, click next > result = stays on confirmation screen. No cpu activity. Disabled SR and tried to re-register dll's. Was only able to re-register srclient.dll. Other dll's report loaded but "DllServerRegister point not found. . ." Suggestions please.

Hello & welcome to TSF,

RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, restart the computer. If the error still occurs, search the hard drive for the presence of the Wininit.ini file, and then rename it. To do so, follow these steps:

1. Restart your computer in Safe or DOS Mode.
2. Click Start, point to Search, and then click For Files or Folders.
3. In the Named box, type wininit.ini.
4. In the Look in box, click Local hard drives, and then click Find Now.
5. Right-click the Wininit.ini file, click Rename, type wininit.xxx, and then click OK.
6. Close the Find Files window, and then run System Restore again.
7. If the previous steps do not resolve the problem, run the following command to repair the damaged portions of your registry:
scanreg /fix
