Preferred Solution: A process or Thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated (into the BSOD windows)

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi

I ran Auslogics Boost Speed Registry Defrag - yes I know, I know.

I now have a persistent BSOD.

I cannot Boot into Safe Mode or any other mode.

Startup Repair picks up no errors.

sfc /scannow returns the following

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.
There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart Windows and run sfc again.

This is impossible as the only way to access Command Prompt is via Repair options.

The full BSOD is:-

A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated.

*** STOP: 0X000000F4 (0X0000000000000003,0XFFFFFA8003AA03DO,0XFFFFFA8003AA06BO,0XFFFFF80002D84670)

I think I have narrowed down the problem. Auslogics has managed to screw up the process of migrating my new defragged Registry and I can find no way of getting my old one back.

System Restore does not work as it tells me I need to enable it on the drive (it is enabled - all my restore points are there but the check box next to my windows drive is greyed out)

After using Hiren's Boot CD's mini XP I have managed to locate a log file generated by Auslogics at the time of the crash. I have pasted the contents below.

After checking the file sizes of DEFAULT, COMPONENTS, SAM, SECURITY, SOFTWARE and SYSTEM files - it appears that only some of them have been modified. Unfortunately some of the file sizes are about 75% smaller which says to me that my BSOD occurred at the worst possible moment.

Still grateful for any suggestions but I reckon a fresh install might be in order.

Greetings,i've been constantly been having blue screens and freezes non-stop,and since i've once fixed a problem with the help of this website,i trust that i can get some help again.
Ok,lets start from the beginning, about 20 days ago i went on a trip for holidays,a few days earlier i'd cleaned my computer's cooler fan, usual stuff.
Now,as i've come back,my computer has been unusually slow and having non-stop blue screens and freezes,to the point where i sometimes have to restart it several times for it to last more than start-up.
Also apologize for the bad quality of the photo and the occasional mixed up languages in my attached file,as my computer language is set to Portuguese. I've tried running blue screen view, but the program shows no signs of anything like nothing was happening, which is very unusual as it has helped me solve many issues before.
On a side note,i've been having my Utorrent randomly close its process for no reason, and malware bytes has shown no signs of problems. Kinda gave up on doing a complete scan with Avast anti-virus because my computer often blue screens before the scan can even get to 1%,but i will try to help as much as i can.
I await for responses

I've getting occasional BSOD lately. They sometime occur only a day a part, sometimes a week. It started I'd say a month or so ago, which was also couple weeks after I had reinstalled Windows 7, which I did after an uninstall of Office 2013 seemed to have not completed correctly, and had also never gotten most of the preinstalled junk of this laptop anyways. I think I installed all the necessary drivers. All hardware functions correctly and nothing is missing in Device Manager.

Every time it is the same message "A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly ended". So far I have ran scans with MSE, MBAM Pro, and WDO, which have found no signs of viruses or other malware. I have run sfc /scannow, checkdisk and every scan that Seatools has. No problems have been detected with the harddrive, sfc found no integrity errors. Last night I had memtest86+ running off of a usb drive run for 7 passes. No errors were found. I went through Event Viewer and found nothing that seemed related. I checked and all my drivers seem to be up to date.

I hope I included all necessary information. My system specs are up to date. The three dumps I have are attached below. I had deleted the older ones with ccleaner without thinking. If I left out anything, let me know. Its been a while, since I've done much troubleshooting on a computer, so I might be overlooking something.

Hello all. I've tried several things to no avail. Upgraded dvd43 software, booted, and this error came up.I have tried multiple things.1. Ran the bootfix2. Tried the Recovery Console with their diagnostics3. Tried to get to Safe Mode and it will not load, goes back to this message.4. Tried to overlay the XP image (refresh it), no avail, back to the same message.I haven't found anything on the web that can help me so far. Looking to take the next step and ask for help.

A:Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000080

0xC000021A: STATUS_SYSTEM_PROCESS_TERMINATEDThis occurs when Windows switches into kernel mode and a user-mode subsystem, such as Winlogon or the Client Server Runtime Subsystem (CSRSS), is compromised. Security can no longer be guaranteed. Because Win XP can?t run without Winlogon or CSRSS, this is one of the few situations where the failure of a user-mode service can cause the system to stop responding. This Stop message also can occur as a result of malware infestation or when the computer is restarted after a system administrator has modified permissions so that the SYSTEM account no longer has adequate permissions to access system files and folders.I've never gotten this particular error...but if I did, i would treat it as a malware situation until proven otherwise.Louis

To preface this: I installed software yesterday on my Dell Inspiron 9400 w/ Windows XP Home and since then I cannot log on. I have a bit of a background in computer repair and I'm familiar with the recovery console so I was hoping I could activate the system restore from there. Safe mode is not an option. What I believe happened is that I had SP2 and not SP3 and the software was only compatible with SP3, though I can't verify right now or I don't know how. Is that possible without booting to find out? I have a good deal of my machine backed up but I am fighting for the most recent two months' work. Would very much appreciate any help!

- Windows XP Home on Dell Inspiron 9400 with SP2* I think
- Error: "STOP: c000021a" Windows logon process system terminated unexpectedly at 0xc0000022.
- Software installed was Avid Pro Tools SE

I don't have access to an XP disc right now but I can within a day or two thanks to my school. As I mentioned I have an external with 90% of my critical data on it already; if it were possible to manually extract the files I want to salvage by copying them to the external I would love to try that also. However, the problem I've encountered is "Access Denied" when trying to navigate to the documents and settings folder. Is having an XP cd a prerequisite for going into recovery console and trying this stuff? I will work on getting one. Thanks ahead of time.

We've seen a number of BSOD issues with SSD's recently. Here's the information that I've compiled:

Quote:
There's not a whole bunch available to test SSD's. The "easiest" test is to remove the SSD, install a platter-based hard drive, install Windows and test for stability that way.

Here's some suggestions:
- Update the SSD's firmware to the latest available version (VERY IMPORTANT!!!)
- Slow the memory (RAM) down to the next slower speed (I've only seen one person who claimed that this worked for them).
- Use any manufacturer's utilities that you may have. If you don't have any, then try this free one (I haven't used it myself): Crystal Dew World
- Update chipset and storage controller drivers to the latest available from the manufacturer of the device (not the manufacturer of the motherboard). Be sure to update ALL controllers on the motherboard!
....NOTE: Recently (Nov 2011) we had BSOD issues with the Marvell 91xx controller and an SSD. You may have to switch controllers also.-
Replace the SSD with a platter based hard drive and see if that stops the BSOD's. If it does, then it's likely that there's a problem with the SSD OR an incompatibility with your system.
It's my opinion that SSD's aren't reliable enough (with current hardware) to be used on a system that needs... Read more

BSOD: The session manager initialization system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc000003a (0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I'm getting this on a shop system running Win 7 Home Premium 32 bit. The last thing I did was shutdown before going home and I believe it installed an update then shutdown, so I'm suspecting the update caused the problem.

I can't get into the F8 Safe Mode screen to try Last known good configuration so I think I'll try a System Restore from the install DVD. Does that sound like a good approach?

Any other suggestions?

Sorry I don't have the specs with me but I think it's a 2.8Ghz Dual core Intel with 4GB RAM and two SATA drives. It's been running fine for about a year.

I have a problem that I have seen has occurred to others in this forum. I have tried to follow some of the advice, but without complete success.

About a week ago one of my PCs started showing this RUNDLL message on startup - "Error loading ruyopaku.dll" - and 10-15 minutes later the system would shut itself down. I would get the message "System Shutting Down. Shutdown Initiated By NT Authority System" and "DCOM Server Process Launcher Service Terminated Unexpectedly". The computer would then shut down after the 60 second countdown timer expired. For a while I was successful in stopping the shutdown by going to START/RUN/ and typing "shutdown -a". I ran an AVG antivirus scan and it found some things that I quarantined, but that did not solve the problem.

So on a recommendation from this forum, I downloaded, installed, and ran Malwarebytes which found quite a few additional viruses and trojans which I also quarantined. I no longer get the missing DLL message on startup, but the system continues to reboot itself and now even the "shutdown -a" does not stop it. I also tried hitting F8 on startup and selecting the option for "No automatic reboot on system failure" but that seems to have no effect either - the system continues to shut itself down and reboot, typically every 5 minutes or so. It's not enough time to do anything - download software, run a scan, etc.

So, the situation is that before I can downl... Read more

My computer is running on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
Since a few days ago, I've been starting to receive a message stating that the "DCOM Server Process Terminated Unexpectedly." A minute or so after the message shows up my computer is forced to restart.
The message will come up after my computer has been on for a few hours, it's happened while playing games, or just browsing on Chrome.
Sometimes I'll receive a message saying "Windows must now restart because the Plug and Play service terminated unexpectedly." I'm not sure what triggers this one, but as with the other error, windows is forced to restart in a short period of time.
I've ran a Malwarebytes virus scan on both of my drives, but it showed that there were no viruses. It's strange that this is happening now, because I've been using this computer for well over a year with no troubles.

This problem started about 2-3 weeks ago. It happens randomly and it gets frustrating because I would be in the middle of gaming or on the web and my computer would just restart randomly. Also i have started using another web browser (firefox) because its harder to navigate google chrome because chrome takes me to different websites frequently asking me to download a software. For example if i wanted to download itunes at itunes.com, instead google would take me to http://itunes.softwaredl.net/

I have tried following steps on another post concerning the samet thing, but unfortunately nothing happened. I downloaded CCleaner and superantispyware + malwarebytes trials to do scanning. It removed threats, but i still have the problem with my computer force restarting and my google chrome being screwed up.

So, I have been told by xXToffeeXx in my original post http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/521186/windows-must-now-restart-because-the-dcom-server-process-terminated-unexpectedly/ to download DDS and post them in a new topic. There are two notepad logs so I will post both just to make sure. I put the attached file attach.txt in this post instead of copy pasting. Thank you for the help in advance

Hello and welcome.  Please follow these guidelines while we work on your PC:Malware removal is a sometimes lengthy and tedious process. Please stick with the thread until I’ve given you the “All clear.”  Absence of symptoms does not mean your machine is clean! Please do not run any scans or install/uninstall any applications without being directed to do so.Please note that the forum is very busy and if I don't hear from you within five days this thread will be closed.   Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.Note: You need to run the version compatibale with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.Press Scan button. It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply. The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

I saw another post here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/519518/windows-must-now-restart-because-the-dcom-server-process-terminated-unexpectedly/ and tried some of the logging tools, I'll post rkills logs to start out with because that seemed to be the only one to report any kind of issue.

Hi,You got hit with the newest infection. One of your system files (rpcss.dll) has been patched. You'll need more advanced tools to replace that file. Please follow the instructions in THIS GUIDE starting at Step 6. Please include a description of your computer issues, what you have done to resolve them, and a link to this topic. If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.It would be helpful if you post a note here once you have completed the steps in the guide and have started your topic in malware removal. Hello, I recently have came across this same exact problem with my computer. I just have one question, would I be able to follow these steps in order to get my computer clean? If you could get back to me I would really appreciate it. Thank you in advance. I actually tried doing the same process you used for conor1123 and once you got to BlitzBlank, I didn't know if the file you put down for him to copy and paste into the script was unique for his computer only. Hello, I've just recently came across this message while playing Borderlands 2 and it put my computer into a restart. I don't know what could be wrong and how to go about fixing this problem. It has been occurring for around 3-4 days now. Thank you to anyone who can guide me through identifying the problem and helping me remove it. Thank you in advance! Mod Edit:  Merged posts from another member's topic - Hamluis.

I am using XP Pro and the automated update just downloaded the recent updates so i told it to install them. Then it restarted the computer after prompting me to.

I am now getting a "c000021a The Windows Logon Process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000018 The system has been shutdown"

I have tried to get into Safe Mode, but it still give the error to go into safe mode, I went into the Recovery Console, but not sure if I can do anything useful in here. I was thinking of trying a repair, but would prefer not. Is there a command line version of the XP roll-back feature, or does anyone know how to fix this problem in general? Or is the only solution as it stands to do a Repair Install?

Thanks, James

Hello all. I'm typing this from another computer, as my infected PC cannot connect to the Internet. My OS is Windows XP SP2. My security consists of AVG Free (antivirus), an outdated version of Comodo Firewall Pro (firewall), MalwareBytes, and Windows Defender. I wouldn't know if this is adequate protection--I'm a "casual user," if that's the term--but it's worked for me so far.

Initially I received this error message while surfing the web on Firefox: This system is shutting down. Please save all work in progress and log off. Any unsaved changes will be lost. This shutdown initiated by NT Authority\System.

Below that, it reads: Windows must now restart because the DCOM Server Process Launcher Service terminated unexpectedly.

Not knowing what to do then, I just let the countdown run out and my computer rebooted. All seemed normal. Then Comodo started acting up. At the lower right corner of my screen, above the clock, I received pop-up messages that the Application Monitor and other components of the firewall were no longer working, and that I should re-install Comodo to see if the problem would go away. I wasn't able to get the message word for word, I apologize. So I opened up the Comodo Firewall to see what was going on, and the Application Monitor, Component Monitor, Network monitor, and Application Behavior Analysis had all been shut off. When I tried to turn each of them back on, Comodo wouldn't let me. So, I uninstalled Com... Read more

Hi,

This message keeps coming up on my computer and causes it to turn off. I have tried reading other posts about what to do to stop this but I really don't understand much about computers at all and so none of it makes sense to me!

Could anyone help me by giving me simple steps on how to fix this problem?

Thank you!!

Sophie

A:DCOM Server Process launcher service terminated unexpectedly

Hi -

Don't restart the laptop if possible.

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

Code:

@shutdown -a
Save this as fix.bat Choose to "Save type as - All Files"
It should look like this:

Each time your machine threatens to shutdown, double click on fix.bat & it shall abort the shutdown procedure. That should ease some of your current difficulties.

Download DDS and save it to your desktop from here, here or here.
Disable any script blocker, and then double click dds to run the tool. When done, DDS will open two (2) logs: DDS.txt
Attach.txt

Save both reports to your desktop.
-----------------------------------------------------

Please include the following logs in your thread:Contents of the DDS.txt posted as text in your reply
Attach the Attach.txt to your post by clicking the Manage Attachments button under Additonal Options>Attach Files on the composition page. Browse to where you saved the file, and click Upload.

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here to your desktop. It will be a randomly named executable. Before scanning, make sure all other running programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while the scan is being performed. Do not use your computer for anything else during the scan.
Double click the exe file.
The program will begin to run, and perform ... Read more

Everytime I turn on my Dell computer ( I have windows XP) I get an error stating "The system is shutting down. Please save all work in progress and log off. Any unsaved changes will be lost. The shut down was initiated by NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM.

Message: Windows must now restart becuase the DCOM Services Process Launcher Service terminated unexpectedly."

I also get another pop-up message stating: "Generic host process for WIN32 services has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

I have downloaded and ran AVG, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Ad-Adware. All programs found viruses/infections which I deleted but the problem is still occuring. Any suggestions?
