Battery indicator not appearing in visible part of sys tray

Q: Battery indicator not appearing in visible part of sys tray

Until last week, the network, battery and sound icons appeared in the visible part of the system tray and the rest of the icons were hidden.
But now the battery indicator has gone to the hidden area I have no idea how it happened. Only the network and sound indicators are now visible. This is the case even when my laptop is running on battery. It's a headache coz I have to manually click on the arrow and check battery status each time.
Is it possible to bring back the battery indicator to the visible part of the system tray?

More info: Mine's a Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit machine and I don't have admin privileges.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My Netbook, running Win XP Home, has suddenly stopped displaying the battery power meter in the system tray. I have gone into power options and the box "Always show icon in the taskbar" is in fact checked off. To be sure, I unchecked it, saved the changes, rechecked it, and saved the changes.
The indicator is not one of the icons that is hidden - for which I need to click the arrow to see.
I was able to briefly get it back by doing a system restore. But every time I reboot it disappears again.

Anyone have any ideas?

A:battery indicator has disappeared from system tray

Hi Sviatapolk,

I've seen this before - Normally after a rebuild. It's got a lot to do with the OS not realising it's residing on a Laptop. Have you checked your power scheme in Control Panel? That's a dead give-away as it'll give you both power options for mains power and power options for running on Battery. If that's missing, that's your issue.

Personally, I've combatted this in the past by running it flat on battery and letting it standby at 5%. If you have the battery power options on display, let it standby on low power anyway, but to speed the process-up, i'd up it to standby at 60/70%.

Let us know how you get on!

Hello guys, I have a problem with my beloved Thinkpad X260 relating to the CapLocks. Today the CapsLock screen indicator (native pop-up) has stopped showing up in my screen and it is quite an inconvenient as I need to do guess work when introducing password and working on emails. Is there anyway to make it appear or manage this? Thanks in advance for your help

Once upon a time, all desktops and laptops had LEDs that would blink whenever there was hard drive activity. Somewhere along the way, PC manufacturers decided this wasn't necessary, but I disagree: If your computer is suddenly non-responsive, it can help to know if there's still drive activity. If there is, it might just be a temporary delay. If not, you'll know it's time to reboot.

There are other advantages to having a drive-status LED, of course, but precious few modern PCs offer the feature. Thankfully, there's a software solution: TrayStatus, a free Windows utility from BinaryFortress.

TrayStatus actually offers a number of monitoring features, most of them built around the keyboard.

Apologies if this has already been asked elsewhere. I don't have the Get Windows 10 icon in my System Tray. I've tried installing all Optional updates, but still no icon despite Windows Update stating I'm up to date.

I've got both KB2952664 and KBKB3035583, which seem to be prerequisites for Windows 7 SP1 users, but noticed the following updates aren't installed:

All three give the error code 80070308. Do I need these updates for the Windows 10 icon to appear? If so, how do I install these updates? I have a Dell Studio 17 laptop running Windows 7 Premium 64-bit.

Thanks in advance.

I have an ideapad 500-15ISK i7, when I charge my laptop the battery led indicator changes from orange to white and remains like this while charging and does not change when the battery is fully charged. So, I am not able to know if the battery is fully charged while my laptop is turned off.

A:battery led indicator

Hi Mohamed2018,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
Checking the battery indicator guide from the hardware manual (here on page 29):
When the battery charge reaches 20%, the blinking color will change to white (from amber less 20% charge).
The battery has between 20% and 80% charge (blinking white).
When the battery reaches 80% charge, the light will stop blinking (solid white)
About the battery pack (page 22):
Battery charging does not start until the Power Meter shows that less than 95% of the total power remains; under this condition, the battery pack can charge to 100% of its capacity. This protects the battery pack from being overcharged or from having a shortened life.
It would be a good guide to use the battery indicator as it goes solid white to unplug for 80% charge to prevent exhausting the battery charge cycle and blinking amber (20%) to prevent full battery drain.
Hope this helps answer your query.
Update us how it goes for you.

Every few seconds, a horizontal bar pops up on the bottom of my screen (about half the size of the Start bar). This bar that shows up displays whatever I have on the top part of my screen.
I hooked up the laptop to my desktop screen and the bar does not show up on the desktop screen. I assume this eliminates some possibilities (like video card?).
I also bought a LCD inverter board (or display inverter, not sure what it's exactly called) and replaced it. But that did nothing. It was worth a shot because it was cheap at only $4 on ebay.
Any ideas what it could be? Would replacing the LCD Screen (the entire thing) definitely fix it?
One weird thing about this problem is that I tried using "print sc" so I can post an image of the problem, but the bar would not show up when I pasted it into Paint. I tried a bunch of times, but it defintely would not show up.
My laptop is HP Elitebook 6930p.

A:Laptop: Horizontal bar appearing at the bottom of screen (showing the top part)

Without trying to replace the screen itself first, have your tried safe mode if the problem persist? I would go to reinstalling the video driver by a manufacturing or having to use a clean install of the operating system provided, you have made a backup of all your important files. Use the software path method before proceeding with the LCD replacement.

Would it be possible to prevent appearing running program on System Tray?

A:How can i prevent appearing specific icon on System Tray?

Hi shinyjanjan, i'm assuming you're referring to the notification area to the bottom right of your screen?

Yes it is possible to stop icons appearing in there, you need to find out what it is called and disable it on start up, to do this, press the windows key and R together and type "msconfig" without the quotation marks and press enter, go to startup tab and find the program you want to stop then uncheck the tick box next to it, click apply and it'll prompt to restart, go ahead and your icon wont be there anymore.

I uninstalled Spybot Search and Destroy almost 2 months ago and one of my desktop's user account still displays the application's icon in the Windows 7 system tray. To make matters worse, the icon is interactive. If I click it, I can still access the 'White and Black list' or something of that nature. The application is not in my control panel's list of installed software either so I don't know how to get rid of it. Before meddling around with my startup applications using msconfig (since I've read here on TSF that it isn't sound to do that unless using an specific application startup tool), I'd like to know if anyone can offer me some helpful remedial suggestions.

Up until yesterday any time I received a new mail an envelope icon appeared in place of the Outlook icon in my system tray. This disapeared when I read the mail. Now when I get new mail the envelope icon does not appear. Each time I get new mail the Outlook icon remains.

Is there some setting I may have turned off that is causing this and if so how can I turn it back on? I have looked in Advanced E-mail options and 'Show an envelope icon in the notification area' is checked.

My version of Outlook is 2003.

You can check your taskbar settings.

Try the following:

Right click on Start -> Properties. Then select the Customize button on the taskbar tab. Look at the customize notification box and see if the new mail option is in the list. Under the behavior colum check to see if it is set to "always show".

My previous notebook (from Compaq) always showed remaining charge of the battery (in the task bar) in terms of both % and remaining minutes. My new Gateway notebook only shows the remaining charge of the battery in % terms. I would like the battery status indicator to show the remaining charge in minutes. How does one do this in Windows XP?

A:Battery status indicator in Win XP

Don't think you will find it as part of XP.

Its more likely to be part of the battery monitor driver peculiar to the Compaq, which added the "feature" to the icon.

If Gateway don't provide it, you may not be able to have it.

IS there an Fn key that shows you remaining battery? I have an Old Dell Inspiron 9100 laptop where the Battery icon would simply vanish.

With Laptops, there is something like Dell Quickset which assigns some On Screen Graphics to the Fn Keys, so you can see what you are doing, like Volume Level, Remaining Battery, Brightness, etc.

Acer should have a similar program- It usually replaces the "Mobility Center" - See if you can get the Mobility Center to show up as a taskbar tray icon. If your battery keeps on vanishing, maybe you can re-install the Acer version of Quickset, is there a folder on the main hard drive with the Drivers and Utilities stored? If not, you should be able to download the Utility from the Acer website that has the drivers and utilities for your laptop.

Hi and Welcome to the Forum
If you get a battery error message then something is wrong. Surely to hide the error message won't cure the problem just stop you being reminded of the problem. Better locate and rectify the problem. What exactly does the error message say? Is your battery overheating perhaps? If it is it will likely happen with another battery. BTW how old is your laptop?

A few weeks ago, I noticed that when I unplugged my laptop, the battery meter indicated that I had 13 minutes remaining. The battery indicated it was fully charged, and the percentage dropped very quickly. Within minutes it began warning of low battery. I figured that my battery must be going bad.
However, I decided to time it, and found that it lasted for several hours after the warning. The meter went to zero, claiming less than a minute remained, and showed this for over 2 hours. Once it died, I removed the batter for a bit thinking that it would reset whatever component measures the battery. Now, when fully charged, it shows about 2 hours on the "long Life" profile (lower power usage) while browsing he web. At 1 hour and 45 minutes, it died. The meter showed it slowly dropping. At 98% it said I had an hour and a half. At 97%, it dropped to zero immediately, whilst still claiming an hour and a half. After a few minutes, it shut off.

So, while the battery does not last as long as it did a year ago, the meter is clearly wrong. How do I reset this to be accurate?

Hi, I've got a Dell XPS M1530 laptop, and I just noticed today that the battery indicator light on the front of my laptop is blue for a few seconds, then flashes red, then back to blue, etc. I checked my battery's health and it says that it's able to charge normally, but my long-term battery life is decreasing. Also, it does not shut off right away with I unplug it; I left it out for a few minutes and it was still at 100%.

Should I just take this as a general warning to maybe order a battery sometime in the near future? Or is it blinking red for some other reason?

A:Battery indicator light flashing red...

Yes red lights on the battery indicator is a bad thing. If the laptop is under 1 year old and you have the warranty on the machine you can get it replaced under warranty if not you have to buy a replacement.

I am assuming you have unseated and reseated the battery with it keeping the same error lights? You may want to try that first since I have had times in the past this would clear errors.

Verify that the AC adapter is working - the LED on the power plug should be ON before you plug in the notebook end.  If it's not, the adapter is bad.
If the adapter is OK, unplug the system, disconnect the battery and hold the power button for 30 sec.  Try powering up on AC only (no battery). If it will, but won't with the battery connected, the battery is bad.
If it still won't power up thereafter, the mainboard is bad -- you'll need to contact Dell US for warranty repair.

Installed the rear battery, then plugged in the power.  On my old T510 I have an indicator showing me when I have power hooked up, and indicates the charging status of my battery.  I don't see anywhere on the T450s chassis that indicates the status of the battery charge. The only thing I will see is the dot on the "i" on the top cover, flash when I connect power.  Surpised there isn't a status indicator. Peter

No, there is no charging indicator on the T450s. By popular demand, Lenovo added one back to the T460s.

Hello, I just bought a Tecra Z40-C-106.
It came with Windows 7, but I upgraded it to Windows 10 pro with the installation CD that came in the box. Now I have noticed that the battery indicator has frozen at 100% and does not decrease.
This did not happen at the beginning with Windows 7.
I do not know if the key will be in that I deleted some pre-installed programs, including toshiba programs. What I can do? Thank you very much in advance.
