Lenovo Ideapad Z400 Touch, keyboard problem.

Q: Lenovo Ideapad Z400 Touch, keyboard problem.

Hi All,I have a Z400 touch. The keys "8", "I", "K", and "< ," are not working, even in safe mode. I strongly suspect it is due to dust, and I should clean under the keys. My question is; is it okay to pry those keys off the board directly with a screwdriver? Or would it get damaged? EDIT: I bought this machine in 2014, used it as my primary computer until around March 2017, after which I've been using a different laptop. I'm trying to rejuvenate my old laptop at the moment, so it could be used by someone else. Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi guys! I just bought an Ideapad Z400.  My problem is that when I hit Fn+Spacebar, the keyboard backlighting doesn't work. I downgraded it to Win7 64-bit rightaway and I haven't checked the keyboard backlighting in Win8. I checked the tech spec and it says Z400 has backlit accutype keyboard. Please help. Karl

A:How to reset BIOS Lenovo Z400 Ideapad Touch

Welcome to the Lenovo Community !

There is no master password, back door or CMOS clearing procedure that will remove your forgotten password.  This is due to the ease in which laptops are stolen.   To resolve the issue you have basically two options.  The first is for the Uncle to try and remember the password he used.  Please keep in mind that passwords are case sensitive and he may have use upper and lower case characters.  The second option is to replace the motherboard.

Hello Lenovo Community!I own an Ideappad Z400 Touch and I had issues with trying to charge it. Obviously I turned to the forums here and I found a possible solution here. When I tried to perform a battery firmware update, it went smoothly and then suddenly turned off and had a fast flashing orange light. Obviously I knew my battery and/or charger let me down in the middle of the process. I'm kind of scared because I don't know what to do nor have the money to afford a new laptop. What most likely happened to the battery is that it got "electronically disconnected" and technically only relies on the AC adapter which now I have found out is pretty screwed up and stops charging once Windows actually boots up. Is there any way to fix this? Please help! Thank you and have a wonderful evening!

Hello guys,So I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Z400 touch that recently fell from a table and the laptop itself looks physically OK and has no dents or cracks at all, even the glass touchscreen is ok but the top part of the LCD inside appears to be cracked as there are lines and black cracks on my screen. I recently took the laptop to a Lenovo service center and they told me that they had to change both the LCD and the touch screen module (or digitizer as i have heard) as they come in a package, this costs around $300 and is not worth it since my laptop would cost around the same if sold secondhand. My question is whether there is a way to change just the LCD without changing the touch screen module as it works perfectly fine. After taking my laptop to a technician outside of Lenovo, he claims that seperating the touchscreen module from the LCD would almost always result in the touch screen cracking so it would be unusable, is this true or is it possible to keep the old touch screen module and change just the LCD? Thanks in advance

I have just upgraded my laptop to Windows 10 and when I booted it up the brightness on my screen was very dim. I tried to adjust the brightess as I normally would (Fn + F11 (or F12)) but it doesn't change the brightness even though it recongnizes me wanted to change it.  I had this problem when upgraded to Windows 8.1, but the fix I had for that doesn't work on Windows 10. Any help?

Hi, I have a Z400 Touch laptop Ideapad - Type 6881. I downloaded Windows 10 a little while ago and put all my stuff on a USB drive before changing. After I did that, I had to reset my entire computer because my husband put a virus on it. I changed it back to factory settings and then updated it to Windows 10 again. When trying to put my stuff from my USB back onto my computer, the USB says that it is unallocated. Is there anyway I can get those files back or are they lost forever? If you could please let me know because I don't want to lose everything I have on it.

Hi lleclair46,

Thanks for posting and welcome to the forum!

When you inset the USB drive and go to 'Computer', is it showing less space than what there is actually on the drive? You can recover the unallocated space, but this may wipe whatever was on the USB drive.

Hi utkutrk ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can try testing individual key specially FN and spacebar if it is working.

Turn off the machine and disconnect the ac charger and battery if you have the tools.
Press down the power button for 12 seconds to drain flea power.
Place back the battery and connect the ac charger.
Restart to check if backit keyboard works ( test further with FN + spacebar pressing 2-4 times).

Hello everyone! I'd like to tell about an issue with a laptop and seek your advice on the problem I have. I will start from the beginning in order to present the whole situation. In 2015, on the 16th of August, I purchased a Lenovo IdeaPad Y7070 laptop from Russian vendor. I also live in Russia (St. Petesburg), so I tried to get support there. After a little while, a registered at Lenovo Support site and found out that my laptop is covered by warranty that ends on 2017-03-18. I though that was good to know and went on to using a laptop. Everything was good and fine until one day in November, 2016 I opened a lid of a laptop and it went with a loud cracking sound ? the hinges were torn out of the body of a laptop and it seemed like plastic that held the whole thing together was broken. There were no prior issues with a device, so I wrote an e-mail to the vendor I bought it at, described the issue and they replied that that is not of their concern what Lenovo Support site says and that their warranty was only 1 year and it ended on 2016-08-17. Okay, I thought, and went to Lenovo Support site again to find service providers in St. Petersburg. I found one and took a laptop there. Indeed, they said that I have to pay for repairs and they have to change both screen and bottom covers in order to fix the problem. And as they have no parts in stock, I have to wait from 1 month to indefinite time for the parts to arrive. I brought the laptop the... Read more

Recently I updated windows 10 from windows 8.1. I could adjust the screen brightness when I was running on windows 8.1, but I can't do it any more since I installed a driver update from Intel. So I searched solution and managed to reinstall the older driver again and it worked. However when I tried to run a game the FPS became ridiculously low, much lower than it was on windows 8.1.  I found that the other graphic card, Nvidia Geforce GT635m, which had its latest driver installed,  wasn't working properly, by disabling this graphic card in device manager and I got the same FPS. I tried to install the new version of the driver of Intel HD graphic 4000, the GT635m worked again and the game got back to normal FPS while the screen brightness adjustment didn't work. So, here's my question: how could I keep both screen brightness adjustment and GT635m working properly?

Hello So straight to the point. My Lenovo IdeaPad y70-70 touch (IPS 1080p screen) had a little accident and now touch screen is shattered into pieces. Well it's still functioning but it's kind of difficult to see through.   I was wondering if any 17 inch Lenovo laptops share the same touch screen part AKA digitizer? And another option would be.  To use plastic screen bezel from non touch version of Lenovo y70 (?or other compatible model?) after separating IPS panel from digitizer.  Also known part numbers or suggestions and where can I get them would be very welcome.

Hi, If it's not one thing, it's another! I feel like my laptop bought in 2013 is falling apart on me now all of a sudden! When it pours, it rains, basically. Not happy. 1) the cover cracked at the hinges a few months after I got the laptop. Didn't think it was an issue. Wasn't an issue until number 2 happened. I then put black electric tape across the cracks on the cover.2) the display is separated from the cover. I put black electric tape all over it.3) the right hinge is popping in and out. I keep popping it in and out. Can't really open or close it without the hinge acting up, so can't use it as a laptop, only as a desktop. That is really annoying, if you ask me. and now, for the piece de resistance: 4) the AC converter is no longer working. Where do I find an AC converter for Lenovo Ideapad S510p Touch model # WB12764324? In the meantime, I'm borrowing a Lenovo Thinkpad AC converter. A:iso LENOVO IdeaPad U530 touch front lcd BEZEL

It's been awhile since I semi rebuilt my u530 after the hinge failed.  I don't recall it having a seperate bezel at all, the digitizer goes edge to edge and the "bezel" is masked onto the back of the glass.  FWIW, without the digitizer, I used duct tape to hold the screen in and hardware store bought bolts to reattach the lid.  UGLY!  It's been a while and my memory might be foggy, I want to forget about that experience.  If you're rebuilding because of hinge attachment failure?  You should contact Lenovo, even out of warranty and see if you can't get them to cover it.  It's a well-known design flaw.  Good luck!

So I've had my Lenovo laptop for about a year now, I believe the warranty on it is expired now. I don't want to spend money on what I think is a simple repair. When I was trying to clear my storage I fell asleep and my laptop died, it didn't get to properly clear the storage and shut down. Now whenever I try to load up my laptop, this message appears  (If you can't read the picture; The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart installation.) When I click OK, it loads and then the same message appears again. It's an endless loop. I looked up different videos telling me to fix this, I should disassemble the laptop, take out the battery, and hold the power button down for about 30 seconds. I wouldn't mind trying this approach, but I can't find a disassembly video specifically for my laptop and I don't want to damage even further or beyond repair. If that's what I need to do, then getting help here with it would be great. Then I tried opening the boot menu, I did this by pressing FN and F12 when turning on the computer. Answers to some of your questions: 1) Yes, it supports up to 32GB RAM, however you would need two 16GB 2400MHz DDR4 SO-DIMM modules, which are rather expensive.2) I can confirm, that one USB-C port supports ThunderBolt 3 and DisplayPort 1.2a connection.4) No, it's a glossy panel.6) Most of IPS screens suffers from backlit bleeding problem. It's mostly depends on unit, which you've receive.

So I purchased my Ideapad U530 Touch two years ago and unfortunately I had an extremely common hardware failure occur after my warranty period. One day, without reason or warning, my left hinge on my laptop completely failed when I went to open it. The hinge was stuck in the closed position and when opened it seperated from the laptop screen with a series of unexpected cracks and pops. I spent over $1,000 on this laptop expecting it to make it through my years at college but now I am left with a laptop barely connected to it's built-in monitor. I contacted lenovo support and the support rep even admitted that this is an extremely common occurence but stated that since I am out of warranty, I am basically out of luck and $1,000. You can easily google or search these forums and find that this is obviously a fault in the Lenovo design but they stated that nothing can be done because they can't put me in the system even.
