jre7 not working with Windows7 & social media links not working

Q: jre7 not working with Windows7 & social media links not working

After working with TSF experts and trying many things my java runtime environment will not work. Also, links posted to social media do not work that link to my website on avahost.com ( Cloud Hands Virtual Gallery) but same links will work when pasted into a browser. For example this link was not working earlier when posted to TSF: http://jerryrosspittore.com/Verify.png but works ok when pasted into Chrome or IE10.

I have run the programs suggested by Rich and am attaching the attach.zip file in hope they can shed some light on my problem.

I recommend trying the free service from Zip Cloud. It's currently our users' favorite backup and storage solution and will save you headaches down the line.

You can get it direct from this link http://goo.gl/rFYDxc. (This link will open the Zip Cloud homepage.)

I spent 2 days on this so far, installed and reinstalling latest jdk and jre.
It wasn't clear if I needed both installations but I went ahead with both. When I run verify or test for java installation from Oracle web site my system either hangs or just spins its wheels (java logo keeps going round and round) and never lists my version or whatever it is supposed to do. I have tried IE10, Chrome, and Firefox with same result. Java is enabled in all browsers with security and with plugins. I am on an ACER Aspire laptop. My real goal is ability to run physics applets from web. When I try to run these java logo appears going round and round but no applet running. Another goal is to be able to run grails and web dev framework. It requires typing "grails" at command line. When I do that I get message that JAVA_HOME var is incorrect and does not match installation path. I have copied and pasted the path several times and made sure it is correct but always get same error message. Here is what I have for environmental vars:
JAVA_HOME = C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.7.0_40\bin;

PATH = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live;C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Shared;C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\Services\IPT\;C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Web Platform Installer\;C:\Program Files (x86)\... Hi, and welcome to TSF.

Download and install, Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems and use advanced mode to get rid of anything Java related, then, reboot.

JDK stands for Java Development Kit, if you don't know what it is, chances are you don't need it.

Go here java.com: Java + You and get the latest free download, should be JRE.

Let me know if this helps.

You really do need to follow all of buddy215's instructions given to you in your "Why is nickreboot redirecting me to Google?" thread.  It's the best way to find and solve the problem.
Btw, your first link to Grom Social works fine for me, but I only get a blank page on the second link.

Hi!
I recently noticed that when I do a Google search, the link redirects me to random ad sites, making it nearly impossible to get to the page that I want. I tried System Restore, only to realize it won't let me go past the last step. Also, my CD/DVD drive doesn't seem to be working. You can watch movies and discs in the drive, but it will not recognize a blank disc for burning music or photos.
I have AVG, and it has only detected tracking cookies. I scan with Malwarebytes on a regular basis, and it never seems to find anything. I scanned with AdAware, and it detected tracking cookies as well. I clean out my Cookies and Temporary Internet Files folder quite frequently, but I can't seem to fix the problem.

Thanks for your help!

Please download RootRepeal Rootkit Detector and save it to your Desktop. * Close all programs and temporarily disable your anti-virus, Firewall and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. * Click this link to see a list of such programs and how to disable them. * Create a new folder on your hard drive called RootRepeal (C:\RootRepeal) and extract (unzip) RootRepeal.zip. (click here if you're not sure how to do this. Vista users refer to this link.) * Open the folder and double-click on RootRepeal.exe to launch it. If using Vista, right-click and Run as Administrator... * Click on the Files tab, then click the Scan button. * In the Select Drives, dialog Please select drives to scan: select all drives showing, then click OK. * When the scan has completed, a list of files will be generated in the RootRepeal window. * Click on the Save Report button and save it as rootrepeal.txt to your desktop or the same location where you ran the tool from. * Open rootrepeal.txt in Notepad and copy/paste its contents in your next reply. * Exit RootRepeal and be sure to re-enable your anti-virus, Firewall and any other security programs you had disabled.Note: If RootRepeal cannot complete a scan and results in a crash report, try repeating the scan in "Safe Mode".

I am not sure if it's related to a malware. so I posted it here. My system is a xp pro, sp3 ,IE7 . I have a wireless networking with total 2 computer attached. My system was running smooth then I don't know why from time to time when clicking on links in IE7 would produce no result. Then I would have no more connection to wireless network and no internet. However the other computer attached to router would still have internet. Then I would try to bring up task manager ctrl+alt+del but it won't show. later I will have freeze but not for the whole computer. when I try to restart computer it won't do it, or very very slow. error message is usually " hsm sink won't end" or something similar, I end manually, still windows won't shutdown. Finally I have to hold power button to shutdown and restarts.
There is not specific time period for this to start to happen, 1-2 or 3 hours. I don't know what triggers it. I thought maybe IE7 is the problem so I started using google Chrome browser. I still have this happening.
I have the DDs text here, and the other 2 logs attached. I disabled panda antivirus before starting this process.

Thanks

Hi all,

I'm not too technically minded so I'll explain this as best I can and hope somebody can help me out.

A few weeks ago my media player stopped working - it flashes onto the screen for a split second and then disappears or just doesn't respond at all. Also the HP Advisor isn't working properly and keeps saying "an error ocurred" links don't work on the help section so I went to the HP site to try to get help there. I opened one of these instant help chat boxes and a technician  phoned me, said he could help etc mentioned a one off charge and it took me half an hour to find out how much etc. He had remote access to my laptop and was running scans that found several thousand problems and now I'm worried that he may have "planted" something in my pc. When I told him I couldn't pay what he was asking he finished the call pretty quick and left me to it.

How do I fix my problem and how do I found out if he left something malicious on my pc? I'm scared to do internet banking now :-(

A:HP laptop, media player not working, HP support not working

Those are questions that you should be asking HP support, IMO.

As for what your problem with Media Player...what version is installed?...

Dear all,

Last week I did a clean install from Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 32 bit to Windows 7 Enterprise 64bit. During the process this forum helped me a lot, and most of my problems are solved now, but... Since I installed Windows 7 I noticed that my laptop (Dell Inspiron 1545, Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T6400 @ 2.00GHz, 4 Gb RAM, Intel Chipset) is getting very hot on the surface and I don't hear the fans running anymore. While using Ableton Live 8 the laptop shut of twice, I think of overheating.
I had contact with Dell Support today, who said they couldn't help me because I did my own install of Windows 7, but the tech guy told me to do a BIOS update, which I did, without any results so far. I downloaded SpeedFan which tells me my CPU temperature is at rest (only Firefox and Media Player opened) around 60 C. When I want to configure my fans through SpeedFan the program doesn't find any fans to control.
Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, how can I fix it?

All help is greatly appreciated.

I have already stopped firewall in the machine.

-delete the entry from registry

I have 32 bit windows installed on my PC. The hard drive failed on me so i had to replace it with another one. We tried to install 64 bit but it just wouldnt work. We tried about 4 different installation disks, including one on a usb stick. After being able to install windows xp, we upgraded it to windows 7 because its been so long since ive worked with xp i couldnt remember how to use it.

We couldnt find the drivers for most of the things on their. Only a few and some of the 64 bit worked on one of two of them aswell. we managed to get the internet through the ethernet cable but not wireless because we couldnt find the drivers anywhere so i decided to sell it faulty explaining that it works but named a few problems which can be fixed, being able to spend time on it.

For some reason, the driver which allowed me to use the ethernet cable to access the internet uninstalled itself. I left it and havent used it since around October/November time.

The only drivers posted for that model at Drivers & Downloads | Dell US are for 64 bit Win7, although I still install 32 bit on 4gb or less RAM for better performance, and we will help you make it work whichever you decide to use.

Put your wireless or ethernet network LAN driver in the backup so that if it's not provided you can install it to get online, enable Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3) then run all rounds of Important and Optional Windows Updates until no more are offered when you Check for Updates. Then import any drivers still missing in Device Manager from the Dell webpage, or search via Google or ask back here for our help.

Plug in by ethernet cable to your router or modem so your chance of getting network driver during install is increased.

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Boot into BIOS setup by tapping the Dell F2 key at boot, reset to defaults, save changes.

Set DVD drive first to boot, HD second, set SATA controller to AHCI, Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into Windows 7 installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here. I would use a fresh ISO written with tool in Step 2 as yours is in question.

Hi,
I have a HP Pavillion dv6000 Laptop on which I originally had Windows Vista Home Basic 32 bit OS. It came installed with Nvidia GeForce go 7400 graphics card and worked fine. Vista eventually died and i upgraded the OS to Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit. Everything works fine but the Nvidia card is not getting detected and is not working. The system shows only 2 resolutions 1024x768 and 800x600 running on Standard VGA Adapter when i know it should have 1280x800 resolution and much better clarity.

I have tried everything. Installed NVIDIA Drivers 179.48 Beta and restarted machine, it installs but when i restart it crashes (blue screen) and keeps restarting in the loop unless i start up in Safe mode and uninstall the Nvidia driver.

I also tried installing NVIDIA Drivers 179.48 Beta and modify the .inf file by using Nvidia MobilityModder program. Again the same result.

I read some previous articles on this forum for this issue which worked for a sony vaio laptop and mine is HP but tried it anyway, installed driver and modded INF from this link

NVIDIA Forceware 197.25 Released - News - LaptopVideo2Go Forums

downloaded the driver + the inf file and inserted modified inf into the driver folder and run the setup.exe file. Restarted the machine but the same blue screen again.

No success and same result every time. Please help if someone knows a recent fix for this problem.

Thanks

The risks of Social Media
Do you cyber-blab? Are you a compulsive Tweeter or Facebooker? Think carefully about what you post. A simple post about your daily visit to the local coffee shop could be enough to tell a burglar when it is safe to rob your house. Remember EVERYTHING on a Social Media site is public.

Facebook and Twitter
Don?t get carried away with what you post on these sites and remember that almost everything you post will be completely public and it is rather like walking down the local High Street and shouting at the top of your voice to everyone in earshot, everything that happened last night, what colour underwear you have on, your name & address and phone number and where you hide the spare keys to your front door.
Be very careful what you post on Facebook or tweet about. It can be used against you in court or by an insurance company, even something as mild and innocent as: ?I?m jogging every day to get fit for my holiday?. Not good if you?re claiming for whiplash after a car accident or you are off sick from work.
Lawyers, Insurance companies, your current or prospective employer will take the time to scroll your Facebook timeline and your tweet history for evidence that can go against you.
Scammers and Fraudsters will scan Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites for useful information that will help them scam you.

I bought this PlayStation2-like usb gamepad from cd-r King (a local gadget store here in the philippines). It was perfectly working alright on my windows xp desktop pc.

Now i have a new laptop, windows 7 home premium, and the same gamepad worked fine and was able to play a couple of games with it. Until recently (actually more or less a month ago), it just stopped working. Whenever i plug it, it keeps saying 'USB Device not recognized' and 'Device driver was not successfully installed' and the 'Code 43 error'.

What can i do? I really want to play with it. It worked before, i may just have done or installed something that conflicted with it. I tried it with my friend's laptop (xp) and it was working fine. I also tried another usb gamepad (from the same store but different model) on my windows7 laptop and it worked fine.

It's very strange. I wish someone could help. thanks!

Hope I am in the correct forum for this. Laptop is a Dell Inspiron E1505 that I rebuilt. It has always worked even better than my husband's new laptop. I am pretty sure this is a virus/trojan, not a hardware issue, but could be wrong why I am on here. I was typing the other night & it all of a sudden started typing letters I was not typing & the lights on front of laptop started flashing. I stopped immediately booted into safe mode & ran superantispyware & went to bed. Next morning, it said nothing found. so then I ran malwarebytes, nothing found & avast scan, nothing found. Then the keyboard quit working all together, but touchpad still works. I hooked up a usb keyboard & it works fine. When I restart computer it gets stuck on the windows 7 boot menu & will go no further until I hit enter, never had to do that before. Also a few times firefox would only run in it's safe mode, now it's like normal but takes forever to open the first window. Went back into safe mode, ran microsoft security scan. Found 1 item, deleted that. Still doing the same thing. I dont think it's the keyboard, because I installed a new one about 6 months ago & too many other strange things happening all at once. Someone please help! I am about to pull my hair out with this one!

A:Dell laptop stops at windows7 boot menu/ keyboard quit working

I wish someone could help. thanks!

P.S. I searched the web and this forum but no luck. I tried
installing/uninstalling drivers
disabling/enabling the device from device manager
uninstalling all devices under Universal Serial Bus Controllers
turning off my computer for a few minutes (my laptop's battery is not user-removable though)

Again. Thank you..

And oh, i saw this from the search result. His problem is almost the same as mine. But that post was way back in 2004.. http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/241004-usb-gampad-many-seem-have.html

Finding and addressing Twitter and Facebook threats requires a thorough understanding of how they're accomplished.

Social media threats are at an all-time high, ranging from account hijacking to impersonation attacks, scams, and new ways of distributing malware and executing phishing attacks. Sophisticated attacks target organizations of all sizes. For example, Microsoft was the victim of a series of social media hacks by nation-state threat actors. The attack campaign was extensive, affecting multiple Twitter accounts (principally Skype?s) and exposing corporate passwords and emails for dozens of Microsoft employees.

Because social media exists outside of the network perimeter, social media threats can manifest long before network perimeter and endpoint security detect malicious behavior. Detecting and mitigating these threats requires a thorough understanding of this new threat landscape. If we compare these tactics, techniques, and procedures to traditional network attack methods, we can draw some important contrasts.

Adversaries traditionally target a corporate network using two phases: reconnaissance and exploitation. Reconnaissance involves footprinting (for example, gathering information about an organization?s IP address and domains), scanning (identifying what systems are using what IPs), and enumeration (identifying the services and ports available on these target systems). When attackers use social media, their strategy is similar, but the methods of at... Read more

About three months ago, this program was making headlines all over the national news. I thought it was at the very least amusing and thought I would give it a try. When I installed the program, I didn't do all the setting up required. I tried to get rid of it today and upon attempting to uninstall it I got this message:

"The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and you can access it."

It appears I need a file that would be in my temp files. I went to the website, www.socialmediasobrietytest.com to reinstall the software, and eventually got this message:

"Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel."

So, now I'm stuck in a never-ending cycle. When a program does this, it usually gives me cause for concern, but everywhere I look I'm seeing that WebRoot designed the program and WebRoot makes anti-virus and anti-spyware software. There's no program with that title on www.webroot.com, however.

I've googled everything I can think of and I'm finding almost all of the media's coverage in Novemer and NOTHING about install/uninstall issues. Is this program malware/adware/spyware? How do I remove it? Is it ok to reinstall it and try it out? Thanks.

Windows 7. I may have installed it for IE or FireFox.

Greetings,

My company is interested in setting up a social media presence online using Facebook.

We have a concern over negative feedback from customers or competitors or outside parties and that fact that the comments become a permanent record.

I would welcome comments from anyone with a point of view on this issue.

Many thanks!

A:Beginners guide to social media

Hello.First. . . I'm unsure of what your asking, could you clarify please?Secondly, it is my opinion that there is no such thing as "bad feedback" provided you make proper use of it. Both positive and negative feedback have use in determining your company's future. Positive feedback shows you what you're doing right, and negative feedback shows you how you can improve. Personally, if I see a company with only positive "testimonies" available I get a little bit suspicious; I believe that the ethical company should not take steps to hide flaws, but instead use those resources to find and correct said flaws. Finally, if by "negative feedback" you mean spam or troll attacks on your company, Facebook does provide the capability to remove offending comments from your page.Hope that helps.~Blade

I was running a disk cleanup because apparently my disk space was almost used up (though with what, I can't figure out.) So I decided to run a disk cleanup on my Surface RT, and that seemed to do something. However, I discovered it deleted the programs I
had pinned to my desktop and now for whatever reason I cannot view my messages via DeviantART (it is like Facebook, only for artists). I've restarted, rebooted, refreshed, logged off and then back on three times, retyped in the URL, but nothing I do can seem
to fix this problem. I can still view my messages on Gmail and on YouTube, but not on DeviantART. I know it isn't something with the website because I can view my messages on my laptop, but not my Surface. If anyone has any ideas as how to fix this or what
the problem might be, please help!

This is a thread I wanted to make for quite some time... namely since 2011 when the whole SOPA / PIPA / ACTA / CISPA madness started, as part of a massive plan to censor the internet. Like many others, I've been interested in a way to create a framework that would allow people to post what they want, without either an ISP being able to censor them nor the government being able to knock at a specific door and arrest someone for what they're hosting.

Most attempts to make this dream come true have been at networking level. Mesh networking in routers is an example of it being done through hardware, while TOR is an example of an attempt through software on existing devices. But all of these methods are either slow, unreliable, or unavailable for most people. So before this breakthrough happens, and people can create an internet that doesn't require ISP's and where your traffic can't be spied on, I've been thinking about different kind of platform. I'm a below average programmer, so I can't say I have the knowledge to do it alone... or maybe someone else attempted my idea already. In either case, I wanted to post about it and hear what people think, if this would ever be a viable project:

- The idea and functionality:

My idea is creating a full media platform, on which you can post text / video / music / pictures / web games, which could be used as either a blog or forum or journal or art site. In appearance it would be like most websites that accept submissio... Read more

I´m running a number of events this year and I am looking for a solution to project foursquare/twitter/facebook up on a large screen at the event so that users can see themselves on the screen. One of the obvious problems I envisage is that the page would need to refresh itself all the time.

The idea is that it drives a lot of social engagement but from a technical standpoint I have no clue how to do this or even where or what kind of forum I should be asking on.

Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction as to where I´m best to ask this question?

A:How can I project live social media onto a screen?

No big mystery, unless I'm missing something. Simply connect the PC to the screen/projector.

Cyber crime has reached a new battlefield ? social media platforms. Just as companies seek new opportunities to reach their target audience, so do cyber criminals. According to Proofpoint?s recent Social Media Brand Fraud Report, 19% of the 4,840 social media accounts associated with ten top worldwide brands were fraudulent.

Identikit fraudulent social media accounts
Carefully crafted, bogus accounts can be difficult to distinguish from legitimate ones. They replicate the brand account as much as they can, mimicking the logo, look and feel, and even content. The only difference is in what they propose to the audience: customer service at odd times, discounts, free gifts, and deals that are too good to be true. As the report says, ?the only difference might be something as small as one character in the Twitter handle, such as @askmajorbank vs. @ask_majorbank?.

Although social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram have implemented an account verification service ? the blue checkmark badge next to the account name ? cyber criminals have become even smarter and can replicate the badge in their background image to fool customers. However effective account verification is, it doesn?t extend to posts or tweets and fraudsters know this all too well.

The 7 different types of fraudulent accounts
The research identified 7 different types of bogus accounts:
Phishing accounts
These bogus accounts are replicas of official brand products and customer suppor... Read more

A:I changed phone numbers, now cant get into my social media .

Phone number shouldn't matter unless you are accessing via your phone. In which case, I didn't know the phone number was tied to the account. You will likely need to contact each site and ask if your profile can be updated (or check their FAQ / support page). Aside from that, create a new account.
