All sound fades until loud sound is played USB headset.

Q: All sound fades until loud sound is played USB headset.

All sound from the PC fades out over the course of ~2 seconds only to instantly return when a new (loudish) sound is made. It almost feels as if the headset is raising its baseline of noise after a bit and things the normal sounds are just nothing until a loud sound comes in and makes it realize there is still noise to be played. Best way to describe it is having poor thresholds set to a VoIP voice detection, you make a loud noise and it will kick on and detect lower noise for a bit before shutting down again.

Headset is a Skullcandy PLYR2 Wireless Headset USB plugged directly into MoBo

I have not had this issue happen when using my monitor's speakers (HDMI into GPU)

There is no sound card on this PC, and I've not been able to find any sort of software to control the audio processor outside of the windows playback enhancements.

Windows Communications volume attenuation is set to do nothing, VoIP programs are off as well so as to rule out those. No enhancements are on in windows playback enhancements.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: All sound fades until loud sound is played USB headset.

When you use a USB connected headphone (wired or wireless) you do not use the PC's sound card, The USB system does the conversion from digital to analog audio. Thus the problem is somewhere in the USB headset system.

Windows only allows one default audio playback device. There may be some 3rd party program that will do what you want, but I'm not aware of it.

(sorry if this is the wrong area to post this.)
My computer is a few years old, but it has NEVER crashed until today. I was in a game of League of Legends, and out of nowhere the screen froze, and a loud buzzing started coming out of my headset, I couldn't alt+tab or ctrl+alt+del. There were no signs of it coming (such as lag). I thought oh well, that's odd and turned off my PC by the front button and then turned it on again. I finished that game without any problems...
An hour later I am trying to launch the game Aion, and my computer freezes again during the launch of the game. This time, the monitor shut off when it happened too... I turned off my PC with the button and left it off for around 30 minutes... I turned it back on, but unplugged my headset to see if maybe for some reason that was the problem. (I read to do that online by one person).. I got on Aion, played for 15 minutes and them boom, crash again out of nowhere.
As of now, I am just on my computer again and I haven't tried to play any games, because that seems to be the only time when my computer crashes... I am not super tech savvy, but I am willing to try anything you give me instructions on how to do.
What I have tried: I have tried upgrading drivers, as that is what everyone in different forums was saying to do, but they were already updated. I also tried playing without my headphones in, that didn't work.

It's a new Dell and it has been making crackling sound since I got it.
I spent an hour on the phone with a technician who restored the laptop with Windows 8.1 to an earlier point in time and it stopped crackling for the rest of the day, but the next day, the noise was back.
The worst are "ding" sounds, they have more crackle than ding. Video playback is bad but at least we can understand what is said. Youtube is bad. mp3 audio is bad. Crackle is there with earphones too.

Hello. If it made the noise right out of the box you probably should have returned it as defective during the brief return period.
Does it make the noise only when running on battery power or also when plugged into house current?

I have a dell xps 420 and it HAD vista home premium 32-bit, but I upgraded to the 64-bit version of home premium and that's when the problems started occurring. At least once a day my sound randomly does a very loud screeching sound and afterwards my sound doesn't work for a few minutes. I have X-Fi Xtreme Gamer sound card and I was pretty sure it was compatible with 64-bit, but now I'm worrying. I've already tried to uninstall and reinstall the driver in device manager. My computer is making kind of a loud whistling sound, it doesn't look like I have bad caps(on my motherboard) though.

Also I hear some sort of "disc spinning" or "fan-like sound" that's loud but it's "soft" loud(like a refrigerator/freezer makes a sort of "soft" but loud sound) makes but it's not my fans. I am guessing it could be my hard drive?

Anyone know what problem I could possibly have?

Ever since I purchased my laptop, whenever I play anything including sound, the sound will play fine for a few seconds before fading out. If I pause the media and then hit "play", the sound will again play fine before fading out. The exact length of time before fadeout varies -- it can last as long as 20 seconds, or start fading immediately. It only does this if I'm using my device speakers, which is why it took me so long to realize it was doing it -- I usually use headphones. I've tried updating my speaker's drivers. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers. I ran troubleshooting and it brought back a clean bill of health. I changed the default format from 24 bit to 16 bit, and that seemed to help a little (the sound didn't fade as fast, and it stopped making this "crinkling" noise whenever something was played), then tried searching for new drivers (still saying I have the latest drivers installed) and troubleshooting. This time, the troubleshooting brought up the fact that I might want to turn off sound effects and audio enchancements; when I went to try, there was no "Enhancements" tab. I've been working on this problem off and on for months -- again, I usualy use headphones so it's not usually a problem, but when I need my speakers I need my speakers. I've tried everything on Google and that I've found on here. Suggestions? Something I haven't tried?

I'm not sure where to post this in the forum, I'm hoping this is the right section. Whenever I try to play a DVD in my laptop, the sound gets all messed up. It fades in and out, distorts, and makes WEIRD noises related to the distortion I assume. I can watch ANY type of video file and not a have problem, even watch AVI's burned onto a DVD, but whenever I try to put a DVD in the sounds gets all messed up. I just recently got an I/O magic external DVD burner, but I haven't played DVD's in my laptop for about 2 months so I don't know how long this has been going on. However I'm not sure this is related because there was no install software. It works as soon as you plug it in basically. Plus I tried unplugging the DVD burner and I still get the same result. Anyways, ALL help is appreciated.

Hi everyone, My girlfriend recently bought an HP Pavillion 15 notebook (Windows 10, I think 32-bit, but it can also be 64-bit). Immidiately after purchase, she noticed some issues with the audio. When the video/music is paused and turned on again, the same issue keeps occuring so watching movies or series isn't really possible. I've tried going to "Playback Devices" > "Properties" > "Advanced" and adjusting the quality of the sound, but it did not work.  Please help us fixing this issue   Thanks in advance

I've downloaded VLC player to rule out if Windows Media Player is the problem.
I've tried reinstalling the 'Legacy' audio driver, but it keeps asking for a disk. The only disk I have is the original Windows XP Pro disk. I believe my computer is 32-bit, if that matters. The disk will begin to run, but it won't find the driver I need.

Recently purchased an HP Envy 32 with B&O audio.  The sound works perfectly fine, but it fades in when audio plays, and the fade takes longer than all system sounds.  if I begin playing music, it takes a couple seconds for the sound to go from nothing to the set volume.  This presents a big problem with system sounds and notifications.  They never play because they are done before the audio has time to fade in.  Is there any way to remove this feature and keep the speakers at full volume?Audio and video are connected via DisplayPort.

I first noticed this a few days ago, when I was playing a video in VLC player. At the time I figured the audio of the .avi was either encoded badly or VLC was acting up, so I dismissed it as an anomaly. However, I started noticing it more as I watched something else later that day, on files that usually play sound and video perfectly. I still thought it was VLC player though, so I restored all the default preferences, which didn't work, and I reinstalled and fully updated it but that didn't make a difference either.

Today though, I realised the problem isn't VLC player because I noticed it while playing back a video on YouTube, and now I can hear it just playing audio through Foobar, which I couldn't before.

I've tested playing the audio through my headphones and there is no fading in and out or jumps up in volume but there is when I play through the speakers, which makes me think it's down to the speakers. I also checked all the connections, cleaned and rewired them back up. Still, no difference. I checked whether I had any stupid audio effects on that might mess things up too, but I don't, so that can be ruled out too.

Anybody have a differential diagnosis?

I suspect that my speakers are sort of dying, and they are pretty old so it's not a surprise, although it is a pain in the ****. I accidentally had the speakers so loud the output audio distorted today too, which could have made it worse and led to it becoming more not... Read more

When listening to music or videos on the onboard speakers the sound will randomly and inexplicably fade to inaudible levels over the span of a few seconds, even at full volume. The volume returns to normal after pausing or muting the audio for a few seconds and then restarting it but then fades right back down to nearly nothing. Plugging external speakers or earphones into the dual-function microphone/ speaker input/ output jack changes the settings, including the volume, to whatever they were last time something was plugged in. If the onboard speakers are faded when plugging in an external apparatus, unplugging the external apparatus returns the settings to the last set of parameters for the onboard speakers and resets the sound playing through them back to normal volume levels and keeps it from fading again for a while. I have gone through the automated HP Support Assistant troubleshooter as well as the built-in Windows 10 audio troubleshooter. Neither restarting the computer, reinstalling the Realtek Audio driver, nor a hard reset has resolved the issue. I do not experience the same issue with the generic Windows HD audio driver but the sound quality and versatility of the Realtek driver is much better so if possible I'd like to try to see if I can resolve this issue with that driver to continue to use it.

My HP Pavilion sound is weak, weak weak. Has the lattest drivers performed sound checks, the B & O app is useless can't believe HP paid to put their name on such terrible sound. If this is the best colaboration between HP and B & O then this is truly pathetic. Unless I am in a perfectly quiet room the HP notebook speakers cannot produce enough volume. Sitting on my lap the notebook is barely loud enough. I usually have to use headphones anymore, and sadly my backup $200 Dell notebook sounds better and those speakers on on bottom and the HP's on top near screen. Can't HP just produce a basic driver that produces enough volume, skip the whole B & O stuff and give me volume.

Hi, Try the following. Download the Realtek HD Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp78501-79000/sp78936.exe When done, hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the Realtek device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp78001-78500/sp78355.exe When the Chipset reinstallation has completed, restart the notebook. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the Realtek installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again and let windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

This might be a stupid question but I can't seem to solve it.

Sometimes when I adjust the volume on my laptop the sound reduces drastically and then slowly fades back. This even happens when I increase the volume. In fact, as soon as I move the volume slider (in any direction) the sound reduces drastically. The same happens when I adjust the sound using the keyboard controls but not when I adjust the volume in the program playing the sound (Chrome playing YouTube, Windows Media Player, Groove, VLC etc.)

It doesn't happen every time but I haven't been able to find a pattern except that I think it happens less often with VLC. (I might be mistaking though.)

It is very frustrating because it is near impossible to adjust the volume without instant feedback. I have to guess a random adjustment, sit through a few minutes of very quiet audio only to find out it is still too loud or soft for my liking. And then the process starts all over again.

I am using a Dell laptop with Windows 10 installed.

Things I've tried which didn't work:
Set action for when "Windows detects communication" to "Do Nothing"
Enabled (and again disabling) the "Loudness Equalization" enhancement in the sound settings.
Ignoring it.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Greetins all,

Is there a way for me to decide where what sound is played?

I got it setup now that all communication is played though headset but all other sounds are sent out though the HDMI cable to my sound system.

I know some games and application allow me to select under options usually where I want the sound to be sent. But for most games and applicaiton they will only be played out though the default sound device.

Now I would prefere that game sounds would come out though the headset as well.

Or anyone knows if there is a program where I can select where to play what?

This is a very strange and very creepy problem and I wasn't sure which forum to post this in.
My webcam is normally plugged in 100% of the time. For last few weeks I haven't used it because it fell down behind my desk and I was too lazy to get it again.

I am skyping with my friend right now and I unplugged my webcam to pull it back around blah blah you know cable problems..eventually put it in position on my monitor and plugged it back in...

And then something extremely scary happened. At first a split second of a song played (I have no music or sound playing software open and it was not a file I have on my harddrive to my knowledge). Then I heard a male voice say "kitty" ???????????? another fraction of a sound file I do not have on my computer.
Extremely freaked out I unplugged my webcam within seconds. I waited again and plugged it back in again and then the song played again for a few more seconds (oh and it's the ****ing Scooby Doo theme song by the way). I did this one more time and it did it again, I closed every window I had open (including firefox) and now it doesn't do it anymore. My webcam works fine but I am extremely concerned I have been hacked? I'm running a scan right now with Avast.

Please help I'm so creeped out

I recently got an external hard drive and a usb 3.0 adapter card. I also had to get a molex to sata power adapter cable for the card. Everything was fine for a few days, but now everytime I wake the computer from sleeping, it plays the sound indicating a device has been disconnected. Unplugging the drive doesn't stop the sound and jiggling the (somewhat loose) adapter cable while everything is plugged in and running doesn't seem to change anything either, but unplugging the adapter card from the power supply does stop the sound from playing. The sound isn't that annoying and there doesn't seem to be any issue with performance, but what I'm wondering is could this become a problem for the drive in the future?

A:Device disconnect sound played after waking.

After you hear the sound, does the drive appear in explorer? Do you have to replug it to get it recognized?

Does chkdsk run on the drive on next boot or at any time?

Is the cache turned on for that drive, or is it configured for quick removal?

They usually happen at about a 1 second rate. The computer starts slowing down ONLY when anything with audio is being played. The sound gets all distorted and the mouse starts moving around at like 5fps instead of its super smooth rate. For instance, it takes about 5 seconds from the windows welcome screen to simply showing my desktop picture. This happens for EVERYTHING that plays sound on my computer, whether it be youtube, or iTunes, Counterstrike, even emulators like ZSNES slow down. Some of these aren't insanely slowed down but the ones that take a bit more CPU to process like CS:S would majorly slow it down, or fullscreening a video or something may slow down the playback rate.

My wife and I just got 2 Dell Dimension E520's about 2 months ago.

For "some" reason...as of 3 days ago...all of a sudden...we both can't get sound when we play MPG, MPEG, WMV files, ect. But, when we play AVI files or MP3's, or stream videos...we have sound.

Could my codec have changed without me knowing? Or???

A:Help...WMV, MPG (MPEG) sound won't work when vids are played..but AVI's do??

Strange thing I just discovered...if I play the MPEG or MPG vids through my DIVX player...they got sound.

Is this weird or what???

Hello. I want to ask a question about my problem. I tried to search about my case, but it's seems I'm the only one in this world who has problem like that.

I have Asus P2W DH Deluxe motherboard with buit-in Realtek audio card (ALC882). My 5.1 audiosystem is connected via analog outputs.

A problem is:
When I start PC with Windows 7 Ultimate, first application that plays sound make huge noise to my audiosystem. In background of this noise I can hear quiet sound that must been played. After first noise played the other sounds plays properly. (For example - if you use sound themes - noise will play then your system is starting). Except only one application (only one that I recognize) that doesn't play noise - small mediaplayer AmpView.
This noise plays only with Realtek (I try to use my old SB Live - no noise at all, but SB Live supports only 4.0 audio). And this noise plays only when I use 5.1 mode in realtek (in 2.0 or 7.1 mode - no noise, but I don't want to use 2.0 and I don't have 7.1 audiosystem).
I tried to use different drivers - 2.37 and 2.40. Problem is still exist.
When I used this hardware with Win XP I doesn't have this problem.

Is there someone who has problem like mine? What way I can solve this?

Thank you in advance.

A:Audio noise when first sound is played built-in Realtek

I may have been experiencing a somewhat similar problem. For example, if I play some music and after that leave the computer idle for a couple of minutes, the next time I do anything to produce a sound: starting playback of another song, opening a folder, emptying the recycle bin-I can hear a short, cracking sound just before the sound corresponding to my action.
I am also experiencing a constant sound from the TV card stream in the background, but I can only hear it when I turn up my speakers pretty loud without producing any other sound...
I never managed to find out what's causing this.

Hi, need some help trying to figure out why my Ipod sounds lousy when played through my Toshiba laptop (w/ Windows XP). Sounds fine when played alone-sound on computer is also ok when playing a CD/DVD. It sounds fine when you first start for about 60 secs, but then the sound quality deteriorates; there's static, and the overall sound is best described as something like helicopter blades in the background. Weird. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

A few days ago I had to perform a cmd scan to have my computer actually work windows explorer after not being able to locate some files (error 127 i think regularly came up) and sound before then among all programs worked.

I have performed multiple cmd scans, update or attempted to locate many related driver updates amongst all recent windows updates. I have reinstalled my sound drivers and still this problem occurs.

since then sound has worked in the majority of programs such as browsers or video sources from them and system sounds, itunes audio originally didn't work either but I think I started windows sound based program in regedit which then fixed that. However other files such as MKV video files sounds do not play or are even listed up in the media player in the windows mixer, I have checked within multiple similar types of these programs internal setups and still no avail from Visual novels to mobile game emulators to no avail. however ordinary games still work within programs such as steam.

I assume windows is unable to recognize sound from more uncommon file types from a specific windows program from before becoming disabled, yet I have no clue how to fix this and especially not in some cover all method unlike what I had to do for my itunes fix.

A:Sound within specific programs are not recognised by mixer or played

Based on your original problem, I suspect a complete reinstall will ultimately be needed to fix everything.

Why does my media player open up when I try to play a sound in a web page? How do I stop it from doing this?

A:Media player opens when sound is played in a web page

What kind of files are you trying to play? Something's got to fire up to play them and it looks like your Windows Media Player is currently set up to be the default player for that type of file.

To change that, open Media Player's Options (under Tools in Media Player) and go to the File Types tab. Remove the check from any or all of the files types you want to play with different program, click OK.

Then in the program you'd rather use, find its Options or Preferences and make sure those files types are included in the list of files you want it to play by default.

After I installed Windows 7 alongside Vista, I noticed that when I was on 7 I would get a lot of static coming from my speakers and earphones whenever I played a song or a video. I switched back to Vista and noticed that the sound didn't have any static. Recently I replaced Vista with Windows 7 because I wanted to only have one OS since I only used Windows 7, I noticed that on the new install it didn't have static. So on my old install of 7 had static and on my new install of 7 didn't have static. I already installed sound card drivers and that didn't fix it either. Is there anyway to fix this or do I just have to migrate everything from my old install to my new install.

A:Lots of static when sound is played after installing Windows 7

I would just migrate every thing to the new install, obviously there is something that is causing that to happen that is not easily fixed it could be a lot of things causing it, such as the sound drivers weren't installed right or there was some other install error or software error.

I really need some help to resolve this issue. I'll try to describe my issue as best as I can.

A few days ago my computer started to produce a crackling sound when playing any audio

The crackling sound is present online and when playing local files
The crackling sound is present in both stereo and headphones

I'm not sure, I use a virtual machine to browse the internet and I haven't downloaded anything when it started to happen. I think my computer had a windows update before it happened.

Solutions failed
I used my asus audio troubleshooting application and it said all drivers were present and up to date

System details
Asus X54C notebook Win7

If you need any other information please ask, I'm not good with troubleshooting computer problems and would really appreciate some help

I've got an ASRock motherboard and am using it's onboard sound card (C Media 6501). This morning it's suddenly decided that whenever a sound is played, be it the beep when i've got new mail, when someone signs in on msn, when playing mp3's, or when listening to online streaming radio, all i hear is constant hissing from my speakers which stops the moment i stop the audio.

I've tried installing the latest drivers. I've tried uninstalling the drivers and using the Windows legacy ones. System restore is not an option as i have it turned off. I'm stumped as to what else i can try.

Anyone any ideas please?

Recently, for no apparent reason, my avi and MPEG video files in Vista stopped playing audio. I first noticed it in Ulead VS11, I then tried to play them in Windows Media Player and DivX player and still no sound.

When you play them in Windows Media Player, it tells you there is a codec missing (C00D10D1) but I am sent on a wild goose chase. I have tried installing K-Lite and the Windows Vista Codec Pack but neither solve the problem.

All these files played fine with audio up until recently and I can still play MP3 and Windows system sounds and DVDs. I have also recently learned that both Quicktime and Winamp will play them with sound and if I go over to my wife's profile, they play fine there on Windows Media Player.

I used GSpot to identify a problem but all it says is that it uses PCM Audio and no Codec is necessary.

Going back to Ulead Video Studio 11 - I found that when playing the entire Project (as opposed to just the video clip) I also hear sound.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
