PowerShell commands: errors and failure to register the Store

Q: PowerShell commands: errors and failure to register the Store

I have spent many hours for the last two days trying to get the Store and several apps re-registered and working. On other forums which I have been directed to, such as MS TechNet, much of the advice and links I have been given either generate various errors, or just fail to work. So I have tried here: How to Re-register the Store in Windows 10.
Again I get errors, commands not recognised and so on.

What is going on? I have activated the Windows Firewall, I have entered everything using Copy & Paste, so what else must I do to carry out this fairly common procedure?

Preferred Solution: PowerShell commands: errors and failure to register the Store

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So i have another problem.

I'm using built-in Admin so i enabled User Access Control: Admin Approval Mode For built in Administrator account and edited HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\UIPI\Default as 0x00000001 (1) to be able to use metro apps on built-in Admin.
Maybe it should be 0x00000001(1) (without space)?

I wanted to use some apps from Store, but it seems that i dont have it (?). It doesn't show as tile or in "All apps" tiles.
Using advice from this forum:
Store - Restore Missing Tile on Start Screen in Windows 8
I added this shortcut, but at the beginning it was shortcut to nothing (white icon)
After reboot its "ok" - store icon is showing and store is showing as a tile
However it still doesnt start, clicking on tile shows desktop and nothing else happens (however on left hidden bar store is showing as running)
PS. Similar thing happens to Camera app (didnt have other metro apps as i wouldn't use preinstalled ones so i deleted which i could).

Second problem is that as stated here (Windows App Store doesn't load after 8.1 Upgrade v. 2 (Also Works for Windows 10!) - OUC1TOO - Site Home - TechNet Blogs) if Store doesnt open i can try to fix it using cmd command powershell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRoot\WinStore\AppxManifest.xml
However after that i'm getting 'powershell' is not recognized as an internal or external command,

Windows update suggested powershell and I took the bait. System locked up during that install but finished the others and I was able to restart. Hadn't heard from it since - 2 days ago. Recently I tried to re-install a software program ("Board Master") and got this error message halfway thru the install:

"ltocxlln.ocx failed to self-register."

(The rest of the install went OK, but when I tried to load a sample module within the program, I got a Red X error message saying, "Member not found.")

(I'm sure the failure of system file Tocxlln.ocx to self-register was the cause of that program error...)

That .ocx file is in my Windows system-files folder--in order to re-register it, would I do this from a command prompt?

cd\windows\system
regsvr ltocx11n.ocx

Thanks for any feedback....

I have been reading several solutions that where written for the people that have runaway dllhost.exe *32 COM processes, as well as, powershell failure.  I tried to read through them all and run the programs {blindly}, but I still have the same problems.  I have a run down of the CPU to 100% with dllhost.exe *32 processes numbering all the way to 15 at a time.  I have powershell failure, shutting down errors every 30 minutes honestly.  I cannot get to half of the normal web sites that I usually read.  I have to do anything as administrator just to get the box to run long enough.

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - I have run this many times
ESET Trial - I ran it for two days and it found and deleted 1300 issues
RogueKiller - several times
Adwcleaner - several times
JRT - several times
ComboFix - several times
MalwareToolBox - several times

I have ran the above in safe mode, regular mode, as administrator, etc.

The box runs a bit better when done as administrator, but it is nothing like it was running 3 days ago {for two years}.  The powershell, dllhost.exe *32 processes, and lack of getting to normal web sites, well, I need some help please.  I can follow directions and do things in a timely manner.  If someone would like to analyze my computer and give me instructions on how to clean it I would appreciate it.

Thanks, Todd

Hi all,

Having problems with our Surface hub 55 inch which runs a specialised version of Windows 10.

Have set up a Microsoft account to gain entry to the App Store however whatever apps we try to download, it fails with the error code 0x80240437 (see attached image). The device has open internet access with nothing being blocked on firewall.

Searches for that code online all pertain to doing things with the Windows OS, not the Surface Hub OS (which doesn't have Powershell or command prompt or any way to reset anything).

Anyone else having problems with App Store on the Surface Hub like this or any suggestions to a solution?

Cheers

or
Activation of app Microsoft.Windows.Photos_8wekyb3d8bbwe!App failed with error: The operation was canceled by the user. See the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log for additional information.

This error appears routinely in a laptop with W10 HOME. It has never appeared on the Desktop PC with W10 PRO.

Deleted the Photos app, then ran the reset and reinstall commands for STORE apps. This resulted in a slew of "activation or application failed" errors - the type that tend to appear randomly. This has been widely discussed in forums.

The Photo error persists, but store apps seem okay. SFC reports no errors. Nothing was knowingly "canceled by user."

No on-line article seems to address this issue specifically. What's the cause, what's the fix?

Hello everyone. I joined the forum today and hope you can help me out. On my work desktop I am running Windows 7 and I want to upgrade PowerShell version 2.0 to 4.0 as a minimum or 5.0. I've read many articles on fixing Windows PowerShell issues but my case seems to be a little different.

To begin, I have the following prerequisites on my computer:
Windows 7 SP1
.NET 4.5
Here is the list of all .NET versions on my computer:
v2.050727 2.050727.5420 SP2
v3.0 3.0.30729.5420 SP2
v3.5 3.5.30729.5420 SP1
v4
Client 4.6.01055
Full 4.6.01055
v4.0
Client 4.0.0.0

The version of PowerShell that I have access to is 2.0. When I try to install Windows Management Framework 4.0 (x64: Windows6.1-KB2819745-x64-MultiPkg.msu) I get the following message: "Update for Windows (KB2819745) is already installed on this computer." but when I look for it in "View installed updates" or "Uninstall or change a program", it doesn't show up. I've done searches for it on my computer and came up empty. Powershell does not show up in my "All Programs" list, Program Files / Program Files (86) or its Common Files, or in the local or roaming user files. The only place I see remnants of it such as the powershell.exe file is within C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-powershell-exe_31bf3856ad364e35_7.3.7601.933_none_3989ef6dcae7e4a9 and a few other folders like it within the winsxs directory. I have read almost everything on the internet to try & fix it, but I cannot for some reason fix it no matter what i try.
I have cleared the cache, i've run so many kinds of trouble shooters, I have linked the licenses, I have run the scan to automatically fix errors.

Now this is a snap of what my troubleshooter gives me for the Windows Store:
This is also what my troubleshooter says for my account:

Everything works fine on my other account though, i created a seperate account & it works perfectly. So please help me, I have not refreshed my computer as I do not have the Windows 8 disc, it's not an issue to get it, but their has to be some way to fix this without the disc. Thank you

I've been having several problems with various programs on my computer. These issues have been reported individually on the forums for those programs without resolutions. They all seem to have begun around the same time for me with programs that were previously functioning normally, leading me to wonder whether they might all have a common root (so to speak) cause.

I am running Windows 7 Professional, SP-1, 64-bit. Connected to LAN via wired connection.

Erasing the htmlcache folder in the Steam directory will completely fix the issue, but it will recur within a day or so. If I access my Steam account on another computer, I never have the issue.

2. Minecraft: When my daughter (or I) use my computer to join another server hosted on our LAN, she will connect, then disconnect (sometimes immediately, sometimes after a delay) with one of several errors:

Hello !
So I'm test-driving this program that I like a lot, but every time I fire it up it throws an error message, something to the effect of

"Failure to register import hotkey: Hotkey is already registered".

The hotkey the app is referencing is 'Windows key + V'.
So my question to this group is: Is there some solid little program out there that I could install then run which would tell me which of the 200 programs installed on this box happen to own that keystroke combination?
Thanks much for your time [:-{

A:"Failure to register import hotkey....."

Is this the very first time you have installed this software on your system?
Registry keys are unique and are never used by two different software provider.
I would run Ccleaner and do a registry clean and see what happens.

Let us know the outcome.

Or is it just me that gets frustrated when I pick up a tutorial for Photoshop and try and do it in Fireworks, spend ages trying to find the equivalent commands to the tutorial then realise it can't actually be done in Fireworks and I've been wasting my time!
Aaaaargh!Click to expand...

I use Fireworks 8 - should be similar in other versions

In Fireworks-
Go to Edit menu > Keyboard Shortcuts...
The top dialog box is "Current Set"
Drop down menu should offer option to reset standard Macromedia shortcuts to Photoshop shortcuts

Worth a try anyway...

PC was taking a VERY long time to boot, and run equally slow after finally getting the OS running.Performance monitor indicated the Hard Drive was 100% busy, though actual I/O was minimal.Attached hard drive to another PC, could read/write with no problems.  I had replaced hard drive 6 months ago and upgraded to Windows 10.  So I cloned it again, and cloned drive booted up (taking 4+ minutes) but then ran fine.  A restart would execute quickly.  Power down, and back to 4+ minutes to boot, though it sometimes would fail with errors and retry.Ran UEFI  diagnostics twice, got following results:Hard Drive   Failed   U0BSTH-7HC856-RXM561-60R603System         Failed   U0BSTH-7HC856-RXM561-60R603So, same Failure ID, but blamed hard drive once, second time blamed System.I suspect it is NOT the hard drive failing for 3rd time in 6 months.I installed all current drivers, Windows 10 is current, and the PC runs just fine once it gets booted.Possibly the AMD SATA controller?

Hello

Yesterday I received waves of Write Fault errors and HD failure detected notices on my Vista Home 32 bit computer. I downloaded Malware Bytes and it deleted a few things. This morning everything was hidden and I managed to unhide desktop icons, etc, now all my feeds have gone (they were still there this morning). So I just wanted to know if there is actually still something infecting my computer or, if clean, where did the feeds go to?!

Look forward to receiving some help advice from you.

Best Regards
Margaret

My comp froze a few days ago and after rebooting I received this error: UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME. I ran chkdsk and that had seemed to solve the problem only to have it pop up again yesterday, along with a DELAYED WRITE FAILURE message and a KERNAL DATA INPAGE ERROR message. My AVG virus scan detected what it claimed to be a virus today but would not let me quarantine it. Any possible fixes?

I've looked around a few message boards and read that it may be signs of a hard drive failure. If so, any quick ways to back up the data besides copying it to and external HD or to dvd (I have a 100GB drive)?

My OS is an XP 2003 Professional and it has never had an automatic Windows priority update fail to install until now. The update is KB981793. I looked it up and it's basically a time update thingy for the computer, however, ever since the first failure to load it keeps loading in my icon tray, next to my clock, and tells me that updates are ready for my computer and it's continuously the same one that fails. So, no matter how many times I try to install it, 5 min. later it's back and I can't make it install or go away. My computer has all the current updates and SP3 is installed.
My second current problem, hopefully when you know what your doing, is an easy explanation and fix. I am now constantly getting an "IE Script Error" on practically every webpage I'm opening. Some pages I need to accept the run script button 2-10 times to clear all the Script Error pop-up that occurred on that page. I don't understand what a script error actually is or where it's generated or more importantly, how messed up it's telling me my computer or some program is. 6 months ago I maybe got 1 or 2 script errors a week, in the past 4-6 days it's multiplied exponentially. The actual pop-up reads "an error has occurred in the script on this page." Then it asks "do you want to continue running script on this page? Yes or No, and of course you say yes so you can continue then within 5-10 seconds later a little pop-up in the corner s... Read more

A:Startup errors for hard disk failure

AS we have properly undertsood your issue  we are going to provide you some information please read this information properly:  Because hard disks are mechanical devices, they are subject to wearing out, even if you treat them better than your own children. Around 60% of hard drive failures occur through predictable mechanical failure, with the remaining 40% of failures occurring through misuse. Hard disk failure might occur if any of the following happens:Your computer is bumped or jostled while it is running; The electric motor which allows the platter to spin fails due to bad bearings or other components; The filter on your air intake gets too clogged or the filter isn't working properly;Extreme heat while running causes the electronic circuit board to fail; There is a sudden power failure while the disk is writing.

Not sure if I have a virus or if its something else, but when I go on *any* website, including this one, I have to refresh it multiple times, and often, these errors come up:

On chrome:
ERR_QUIC_PROTOCOL_ERROR
ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR
If it doesn't do either of these two errors, it simply says "the network could not find a secure connection to the server" , has a completely blank white screen, or  just loads everything with texts, but no images.

On microsoft edge:
HTTP 403 error, microsoft edge can't get to this page. Go back to last page or try logging in again.

Only started happening yesterday. Thanks in advance.

Hello all. New to this site. I have Vista home premium. The laptop is an Amilo, Fujitso Siemens. My problem started with message of low disc space on D drive. It's now coming up with unable to back up files. There is nothing to delete on D , only the operating system.Recycle bin is empty. My last successful back up was 17/9/12. I then looked in my "back up files" to see if they were piling up but they only went back to september 2012. Somehow I then got to a a part that said disk C has errors and clicked to repair it. Then came up catastrophic failure (0x80000FFFFF) I have also done a full scan for viruses etc but nothing has come up. I've tried to restore system to last sucessful back up date in September but then I get back to error etc .It can't do it whilst using computer so asked it to do it on start up. I switched computer off and on and am back going round in circles. Any advice please ? I only have basic knowledge of computers so don't know how to solve the problem.
Thanks for any help. Regards Rita

Hi,

I have read & tried so much stuff on the following issues and now feel I really need some help.

Basically, I keep getting the following errors:
"Hardware Failure" (mainly)
"IRQL Not less or equal" (occasionally)
"Device Driver" or "Video/Graphics"(occasionally)

I started getting these with playing games at first but now seem to get it with simply surfing.

I checked the event logs which only said "SYSTEM ERROR 1003"
I check my cpu temp which is always around 40c so ok.

After reading about possible causes I decided to check my ram. I used some spare ram from another pc, swapped, paired, unpaired etc but still got the same issues.

I downloaded the latest drivers for my mobo, graphics card, & sound - No Joy

Then I tried to repair windows. When doing this however, I got a BSOD. I couldn't do anything - it would go to the BSOD immeadiatley.

Luckily, I had used that hard drive purely as a boot up drive so was able to instal it a fresh on my slave.

However, I still got the same errors. Next I decided to remove my graphics card & drivers to test with just the on-board graphics card. So updated the drivers.

It seemed to work for about half a day but then started crashing again with the same hardware/driver errors but alot less frequently.

What am I missing? Does the fact that I get a hardware error necessarily mean I have a hardware error or could it be a driver problem? I am... Read more

Hi, this is a Hard drive problem, the HDD has been corrupted and the system is unable read the Filesystem and Partition Table data on the hdd correctly. A repair install will not always work. Best solution is to Delete the Partition/s on the HDD, recreate partion/s and full format each partition. Make sure you set the partition you intend to use as your SYSTEM DRIVE as active after you recreate it.

You should save your Data (only your doccuments and media files) Not the doccuments and Settings, windows, or program files directories. because you will probably find that windows is also corrupted and will not repair but will BSOD when initializing system drivers. Use a HDD regeneration utility to make sure that any bad sectors are repaired or marked as bad so that windows does not attempt to use the bad sectors.

this is usually caused by virus atack, system crash, incorrect shutdowns causing improper HDD dismounts, if have partition magic or similar utility you will probably see that the partition is marked as bad.

Delivery status failure notifications routinely happen all the time.

Erroneous email addressing is the most common cause of this in my experience...or the mail server policies of the addressee.

Hello forum,
I've just signed up to this after stumbling upon it while trying to find a solution to my dilemma, I've recently purchased an MSI Dragon Edition. It started off the bat with top notch performance, no fps drops, no nothing, just pure perfection. Up until one day, it decided to completely crash on me, it got stuck on the loading BIOS screen and refused to redirect me to the log in page where i could access my desktop. After taking it to maintenance and formatting it from scratch, I've started noticing some subtle differences in comparison to the way it used to perform, performance drop, fps drop in game, slower powering on time, takes longer to shut down, not recognizing certain USB input such as my hard drive (not all the time).
About a week ago, while playing a game, my laptop crashed to the blue screen, with the error code displayed at the bottom telling me that the issue was "driver power state failure", after doing some research about the blue screen issue, people on other forums were discussing how the user should perform an SFD scan check from the CMD prompt.
After Scanning, my prompt informed me that I had multiple issues regarding my software files, "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them."
From the Scan, there were in total 27 errors to report as shown below.
I'm also currently fully, thoroughly scanning my laptop for any viruses using Avast! Antivirus, hoping it might resolve my issue.

My hard drive most likely sustained some light damage recently. The BIOS hard drive self test returns the error '#10008 - replace hard disk'. Using the Windows utility hooked up as an external hard drive it found 3 bad sectors. At least this is what I was told by my friend, unclear what it did with the bad sectors (reindexed maybe?).

Before the error check the laptop would just stop on a black screen after the Windows logo (both normal and safe mode). Since the error check it has been loading normally but on normal mode it throws a critical error during the start up and the system is forced to restart within a minute. Neither 'shutdown /a', nor 'Disable automatic restart after system failure' from the advanced booting options seem to prevent the shutdown. The good news is that the system is actually stable in safe mode with networking. However, it has resulted to critical errors as well when trying to either fiddle with file/folder privileges from the browser or unlock a file from another process. On safe mode it connects to the internet but on normal mode it only gives me limited access at best. I have also noticed some Base System Devices on Device Manager but I don't know how long they have been there for.

Things I've tried:
- System restore from the booting options didn't have any effect and the service seems to be disabled in safe mode.
- I have tried to repair the system from the advanced booting options and using SFC. Both report that they can't fix all error... Read more

Hi,
Did you make any change to your computer recently? If not, the most simple method is restore your system to restore your PC to an earlier point in time for test. Please refer to the link below for more details about System Restore.

Hi,
For the last few days, I've had sporadic instances of DNS resolution failing on this win7-64 machine, when other computers in the house aren't having that problem and the dsl connection is fine. At these times, the win7 box can still ping sites. I know people with virtual wi-fi adaptors see similar symptoms; I don't have any such adaptors installed.

Moreover, a few times since the DNS failure problem started, there have been error messages from Windows that strangely named .exe files have stopped running. The last one was "vhbmtk.exe"; both it and the prior name (didn't write it down) were ungooglable filenames, which made me suspicious. The error messages all indicated the ntdll.dll was the fault module.

Sophos rootkit scan found nothing, MSE virus detection hasn't gone off, and Malwarebytes found and removed the "vknt.exe" keylogger from the winamp plugin "morphyre", which may have been a false positive. I've never actually run that visualizer since it was installed many months ago.

Looking at the system logs for warnings about name resolution failure, there were a few back in december, but the frequency really shoots up on Jan 20.

DDS log follows, with hijackthis and attach.txt attached.

Any help ruling in or out malware issues would be greatly appreciated!

is this a known issue? I have searched and seems to be caused by some old Nvidia drivers and I have upgraded to latest version so dont think it could be that?

Thanks for help

Hi,

I've read through a number of posts on this issue, but haven't got to the end of my problem.

When I open Windows firewall from Control Panel, I'm presented with the one button 'Use recommended settings' which doesn't do anything. It's in a box marked 'Update your firewall settings'.

Having followed other advice for other peoples' problems, I've managed to get the BFE service back up and running. The windows firewall service isn't even listed in Task Manager. I'm not sure if this is related, but there is also a problem with mpssvc, which I can neither start nor stop, and the description column simply reads '<Failed to read description. Error code 15100>' Trying to start the service mpssvc results in an error message telling me that it can't be started, with service specific error code 1168.

They're the only error messages I've received in all of this.

I've attached my FSS log file in case it's useful.

Anyone got any ideas on this? Cheers.

I am having some trouble getting the default store apps to work. As for the store itself, it used to briefly show the splash then crash. Now it is just an unknown file type that doesn't do anything when clicked. I have tried some of the more common fixes, like the powershell re-register scripts, but none work, all returning errors of one kind or another. At this point, would it just be easier to "Reset this PC", or is there another fix I may not have tried? Thanks!

Hi nardavin and welcome to Tenforums.

You could try an in-place repair to get things working again.
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade - Windows 10 Forums
That should do the trick.
