Unable to adjust date and time

Q: Unable to adjust date and time

When I double click or right click to adjust date and time on one of my computers nothing happens. I look in my task manager and nothing is displayed as running. The computer was checked for viruses as well as spyware but this computer does not have the ability to go online so I'm not really sure as to what's happening. Any ideas?

Preferred Solution: Unable to adjust date and time

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Unable to adjust date and time

Try this:
Start> Run> type: timedate.cpl and hit OK.
Will the date and time properties open?

It may be a dieing CMOS battery. Its a strange thing i've never heard of before.

Try these steps to check if you are infected with anything vicious.

I have a problem trying to adjust date and time.

Normally, I right click on the time on the task bar and select "Adjust Date/ Time", but now when I do this I see the spinning/ activity icon near the arrow appear for about 1 second then it disappears without the process being completed, nothing happens.
I have tried going to the Control Panel/ Clock, Language, Region/ Date and Time/ Set the time and date, but still no go!

This has only just recently started happening after I restored my PC to an earlier restore point due to some automatically installed Windows Updates caused my copy of Windows Vista Home Basic to be identified as "Not valid", which is rubbish as I bought my PC from a legitimate supplier and have been using it for over 12 months now.

Now my clock is 2 hours behind; the date is okay.
Just a small thing, but irritating!

Any suggestions, comments, answers or replies would be appreciated.

A:Can't Adjust Date and Time

My clock has been changeing to military time after updates...as in 3:15p.m. becomes 15:15 p.m. Strange I will say. Wonder if theres a connection. 8-24-2008 there was a windows defender update and I noticed my clock changed.

Read other 5 answers

When I first built this system for some reason I set the clock so that it keeps time in 24 hour format. Though by doing so it would still display what day it was along with the date when I would hold the cursor over top the time display.

But here lately for some apparent reason all it displays is the date, and not what day of the week it is.

I have looked all over the control panel for some way to check and see if some setting has been changed inadvertently. But so far I have been unsuccessful at finding the option of setting the clock display.

A:Solved: How to adjust the Date & Time Display?

Control Panel | Regional and Language Options

Long date should show Sunday, February 08, 2009 for today. If not, click the Customize... button, then the Date tab.

If the Local has changed from your original setting, just change it back. Your customizations should have been saved.
Depending on why things got changed, they may have been reset though, so you may need to customize the Date and Time display again.

My Antivirus detected more then 5 viruses. Then the computer froze and I had to manually restart it. I tried running anti-virus again but it wouldn't run this time because "the windows are not up to date." When I double-clicked on the icon to install downloaded updates, nothing happens. I also noticed that the time is two years back. Nothing happens when I try to adjust it.
Is there a hope for this computer? I really need to get some of the files but even clicking on My Documents isn't working!
I really appreciate any help!

A:Virus(es)won't let me adjust time/date or run windows update

Hi Supergirl425 and welcome to Bleepingcomputer!
We need to gather some basic information first before we proceeding.
1. What version of windows you have?
2. What is your antivirus program?
3. If possible, can you tell me the threat name your antivirus blocks?
4. What icon do you click to install updates? Is it in the taskbar, desktop, start menu, or any other places?
5. Can you run any programs?
Thank you.

Vista Ult. 32 locked up yesterday (using MS Outlook at the time). Rebooted and got the continual green bar mem check. I popped the CMOS battery as sometimes that will work if other measures fail. Still would not boot, so out came the Install disk and ran several sessions of repair. Finally got it working, but I have lost the "Adjust Date / Time" feature in Vista. I corrected the date and time via the BIOS, but cannot get the Vista feature to work.

What happens if you type timedate.cpl into the RUN box ?

All I can find on the internet refers to Win98 or similar. The only possibilities that may work for you are replace timedate.cpl from a working PC (for which you will need to be super-administrator).

Also double-check the bios actually has the right date and time - remember there is ambiguity about whether the date is DDMMYYYY or MMDDYYYY (at least in my country !)

There is here http://www.websecurity.mobi/computer-help/497-timedate-cpl.html something not too different. Even though it is about Millenium, it offers another suggestion as to where to find things that may affect your problem.

I am getting so frustrated . I have run, Adware, AVG-AntiSpyware and all they find are stupid cookies. Here is what's been going on for almost 2 weeks. I cannot adjust the date and time on my PC. Everytime I finally can change the time but the date reverts back to 2005! Also when ever I use the PC, using internet or not the mouse turns into weird chinese characters instead of the hour glass when it is 'thinking". The ONLY time it stops is if I run one of the AntiSpyware. I figure it realizes I'm trying to find it and goes into hibernation or something...after a while hour to couple hours, it comes back. It keeps doing something and I cannot type or use the PC during this time. 3 secs or so intermittently. Norton also found: W32.Hitapop which it deleted....maybe it didn't get it all??? Also can't do a system restore because of the date difference. Won't let me run a backup...don't even see the option in System tools.PLEASEEEEE HELPPPPPPPPP MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Greetings, and thanks in advance for your help..

Awhile back I formatted my Windows 10 PCs to show ddd dd-mmm-yyyy on my taskbar clock. This worked happily on my desktop and laptop for months, maybe even a year +

Now (probably starting in the past couple days, if not today), on one of those two PC's, this format will no longer display. It is Okay on the other PC.
What has changed that the taskbar clock space used to expand to fit the "short date" format, but now it will no longer expand - and instead just refuses to display the date at all. (NOTE: I've verified the issue by testing shorter formats -- short formats, like "ddd" show up correctly. Only if you request a longer format will the date not display - evidently because it is too long for the clock area. )

Additional Notes that may help:

* "Working" pc is running build 10586 PC with too small a clock space that won't expand -- Build 14393

*Other differences: Notification/Action center Icon is left of clock on the working PC - Right of clock on the non-working
Right- Clicking on task bar gives "properties" option on working PC -- But "Settings" option on the non-working

( I don't want to prejudice responses - but clearly the implication to me is that some recent OS update is most likely the culprit.)

Thank You

I have a Date/Time field that I need converted to just a Time field.

It comes back with 2/11/12 0:00:00

I need just the 2/11/12

I thought about changing it to a text field but I think there will be an issue with the month because it does not bring back a 0 in from the months with only 1 digit.

This table that I am creating is being sent to a txt file and that is where I see the issue. It looks good in Access, but not the txt file.

Any suggestions?

I am looking to set up a macro or formula that basically inserts the current time when a cell is filled SO:

when a2:a100 is populated with any thing then the corresponding C cell will be populated with the time.

when e2:e1000 is populated wiith anything then the corresponding D Cell will be populated.

Currently I am using this macro.
Private Sub Worksheet_Change(ByVal Target As Range)
If Target.Cells.Count > 1 Then Exit Sub
If Not Intersect(Target, Range("A6:A100")) Is Nothing Then
With Target(1, 4)
.Value = Time
End With
End If
End Sub

which works great for the A and C cells

but it does not work for the other one.. how do i add and modify this so all my needs are met.
I need another 2 sets of 2 macros accross the sheet for time entry.

If I am in the wrong forum, please let me know.

About a month after I started using it, the Say the Time clock program I bought stopped launching the management menu when I right click the date/time field in the task tray (notification area).

Therefore, I can't use or edit the program.

Neither the touchpad nor the cordless mouse works.

Other than this problem, my computer works great. Every single item that's meant to be right clicked works for me.

Is there a way I can generate a log to show the software manufacturer (Provenio) that it's their problem and not mine?

I am a novice user but I can follow instructions.

However, I don't want to put my computer at risk if I make an entry error.

Or is it obvious that it's a software problem?

I've been using computers for 18 years and I've never had this problem until I bought this software and used it for about a month.

I just wanted a conclusive way of putting the ball back in the manufacturer's court.

Thanks for any suggestions.

You can use VEW by Vino Rosso http://images.malwareremoval.com/vino/VEW.exe
and save it to your desktop

Double click it to start it Note: If running Windows Vista or Windows 7 you will need to right click the file and select Run as administrator and click Continue or Allow at the User Account Control Prompt.

Click the check boxes next to Application and System located under Select log to query on the upper left

Under Select type to list on the right click the boxes next to Error and Warning Note: If running Windows Vista or Windows 7 also click the box next to Critical (not XP).

Under Number or date of events select Number of events and type 20 in the box next to 1 to 20 and click Run
Once it finishes it will display a log file in notepad

Has anybody else experienced this problem?

I open Event Viewer - "Admin View" to see what Errors/Warnings are there and in the column - Date and Time only the date is showing. Same goes for all the other views.
The "Time" element seems to have completely disappeared.

Any idea where its gone........... and more importantly, how to get it back?

A:Time stamp missing from Date and Time column - Event Viewer

Problem solved - but - I don't know why.

Solution:- I changed the Date/Time format from UK to US, opened Event Viewer and it was as it should be. Date & Time showing.
I then changed format back to UK, opened Event Viewer and , as above, the Time was back up.

If anybody knows what had happened I would be most interested.

I have a 4 year old computer that runs perfectly, except when I turn it off at night and then back on the next day, I loose a few hours on the time date at bottom of screen. I ajust each time I use it but the same thing happens each time I turn it off. Could it be the clock battery or ? My operating system is Windows XP Home
Thanks Lc

A:Windows XP time/date clock looses time after shut down.

Welcome to TSG...A bad CMOS battery will cause your machine to lose time. If the system is four years old, you're eligible for that issue...also, if the system has spent any lengthy amount of time (weeks or more) unplugged from AC power, it's more likely to happen.

Next reboot (after leaving it overnight), enter BIOS (setup) and see if the time there is slipping as well.

The battery itself (if that's what's bad) is cheap to replace...less than five bucks.

Please give us some specs on the hardware-make, model, etc.-and we can help you with battery replacement instructions.

When does the next version of windows come out? 2007?

We change time back one hour tonight, our computers do it automatically of course if we have that function selected.

My curiosity is:

If there is no new version of Windows coming out by the time the law changes in 2007 that extends the one hour time change up until the end of November won't everyone have to do that manually but only after unselecting the option for the computer to do it or else the time change will be one month to early?

If there is a new version of Windows by 2007 I'm sure I'm sure the clock will be programmed to change at the end of November.

From what I can tell there is no current function in Windows that allows the user to set which day of the year to change the time but is programmed into that function individually according to the time zone selected.

If not and since todays computers will be online in 2007 maybe MS will release a patch to adjust for the new date change in the clocks program.

hi nikunjpadhiar,
Welcome to the Forums.
When you installed the (Beema) AMD Driver, did you remove any previous traces of the AMD Display driver?
If not, can you try the following:
1. Navigate to the Control Panel (Icon Views) > Programs and Features and uninstall anything that relates to AMD Display Driver / AMD Control Center.and reboot. When finished, navigate to the Device Manager > Display Adapters and the driver should show a Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.
2. Install the (Beema) AMD Driver (VGA, HDAudio, SATA) for Windows 8.1 (64-bit) and reboot. When done, the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter from the Device Manager should now change to an AMD Radeon Display and check if you can now adjust the brgithness.
In addition, check this post by marcus34 as he was able to resolve the issue.

Hey everyone,

Thanks in advance for any help.

My Windows Vista isn't letting me adjust my power settings.

Here is what the problem:

1. I click the battery icon in the bottom right of the start bar. Then I click "More Power Options"

2. On the left panel of Power Options window, I click "Choose when to turn off the display"

My computer tells me "Your power plan information isn't available" with a red X next to it.

The same thing happens when I try to adjust any other power setting as well.

3. I click on the "Why can't Windows retrieve this information?" and it says stuff about my system administrator making changes, and that doesn't apply to me. I am the only user of the computer and my account is the administrator. I've never tinkered with any of these files to my memory.

It also says "Some of your power management settings, or the registry keys that are associated with those settings, have been deleted or corrupted. For more information, contact your system administrator." But I am the only administrator of this computer and the nice people at Microsoft never instructed me about this when I bought my computer.

I've done a SFC scan and it said "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."

I've also tried searching for an answer on other forums but I either don't understand the solutions, which usually involve registry edits...or the problems I've found aren't exactly on target and ... Read more

A:Unable to adjust brightness in my windows 8.1

First off, figure out whether or not your laptop has an ALS (Ambient Light Sensor) which will automatically adjust the brightness (if all goes well). Usually it won't override a manual setting, but it's kind of up to the developer which one takes precedence. As for the keys not working, you probably removed (or didn't install after a Windows reinstall) the helper software that controls these functions.

It is working a few weeks when i bought it, but recently I cant adjust the brightness either in the brightness button or in the display settings. It seems to be locked on 100% brightness.

I suddenly was unable to adjust the brightness on this 3-day-old laptop.  Moving the slider from zero to 100% didn't change the light. I don't have an adaptive brightness setting. Google searches had me disable the sensor monitoring service, which did nothing. A user suggested rebooting while holding down Shift-F12 until reaching desktop.  This worked!  I can once again adjust brightness.  My questions: 1.  WHAT did Shift-F12 do?2.  Should I reenable sensor monitoring service?

First, techincal specs.
I have a Windows 8.1 Toshiba Satellite L875D-S7332, with a AMD A6-4400M APU processor with integrated graphics. My display adapter, according to device manager, is a AMD Radeon HD 7520G.

Now, my problem is that I'm unable to adjust the screen brightness of my laptop. I haven't made any recent changes, and I noticed this about a week or so ago(I don't typically change my laptop brightness, so this could have been happening for longer). In the mean time, I've tried rolling back my display drivers, with no success, and also updating to the latest driver set, which has also not worked. I'm not sure where to go from now, does anyone have any ideas to fix this?

A:Unable to adjust laptop screen brightness

Welcome to the Forums.
What happens when you try to adjust the brightness? Is there no setting? Setting grayed out? Or you change the setting but nothing happens?

If it changes for an instant, then reverts to what it was, adaptive brightness may be enabled.

I've noticed, today, that I'm suddenly unable to adjust my screen brightness. I have read half a dozen threads reporting the same problem; I tried all the solutions therein (from updating the driver and reverting to the most basic one to manually changing power configurations) and nothing worked. Unlike the vast majority of users who had this problem, this hasn't happened following an update to windows 8.1 (which I did several months ago -- and the adjust was working fine after that).

This might give you a hint:

* As I try to adjust it using the fn key (as I had always done previously), brightness goes up or down just one level -- and that just 'cosmetically', as in fact nothing changes. The indicator gets stuck approximately in the middle of the bar, unable to reach the extremes.

* There is more: on power management, I chose the lowest possible level of brightness when working on battery, just to see what would happen. I then disconnected my laptop from main power, and... the brightness indicator did go down to the lowest level, YET brightness remained unaltered in fact.

Anyone, please??

Just today, my laptop won't let me adjust the brightness, and has completely removed the option to. I am currently running on Windows 10 (64-bit) and again, just today out of nowhere does not let me adjust the brightness. The laptop battery is completely dead (it doesn't work without being plugged in) but this issue has never affected anything. I would really appreciate some help with this ASAP as the screen is damaged enough already. Thanks  UPDATE: The laptop has now completely gotten rid of the option to sleep.

I'm wanting to use a screen capture program but it said I needed to adjust the hardware acceleration display driver on my HP laptop. I go to the location and the button is grayed out. This is what it reads- Your current display driver does not allow changes to be made to hardware acceleration settings. Is there anything I can do to adjust this driver so I can use the program? A:Unable to adjust display driver hardware acceleration

Which screen capture program are you using? I would try another program, this is the first time I've heard of a screen capture program asking that kind of fix.
And as for Hardware Acceleration, I know of a lot of Laptops or Notebooks do not have this feature, mine is one and my wife's laptop being the other, the Laptops are 2 and 3 years old respectively.

Good luck in resolving your problem
