Three finger swipe right/left for browser back/for...

Q: Three finger swipe right/left for browser back/for...

Any help is greatly appreciated. X1 Carbon, type: 20BS, 3rd gen, Windows 10 I would like to be able to three finger swipe left and right to go back and forward in a browser, similar to macs. The three finger swipe up and down current works, as well as all the other trackpad functions. Searching the forums reveals that some have had success installing a driver built for Windows 8.1. I have tried (unsuccessfully) to uninstall the current Synaptics Pointing Device driver (19.0.17.27) for Windows 10 in Device Manager, and install this driver for 8.1 (http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/ThinkPad-W-Series-laptops/ThinkPad-W55... Here is what I have tried so far: Device Manager > Mice and Other Pointing Devices > Synaptics Pointing Device > Uninstall > check Delete Driver Software for this DeviceThen: install the driver from the link above (n10gw23w.exe / Driver 18.1.27.32) > restart After restart, when I check the driver under Device Manager, it is still 19.0.17.27; not 18.1.27.32. Under the mouse settings in the Synaptics Control Panel > Gestures > Three Fingers, there is not a drop down option for swipe left/right for back/forward. What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions to get the swipe to work?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Also, when I try to install a new driver an error pops up: "Synaptics driver not found!"

Has anybody been able to change settings for 3 finger swipe in Windows 10?Switching apps using 3 finger gestures is absolutely useless, and I would like to be able to use the same gestures to go back and forth.  When I installed Synaptics driver for other products, version 18.x and for Windows 8.1, I would get the back and forth option back. The only problem is that the trackpad buttons do not work. Everything else worked fine except for that. I tried a number of 18.x versions, and all of them had the same issue. Synaptics driver for P70 Windows 8.1, ver. 19.x, doesn't have back and forth option. This has become vastly annoying, especially when I'm browsing the web using the touchpad as going back would require a rather lengthy travel of my hand. I use Chrome mainly and I have to press two physical buttons, Alt and an arrow key, to go back and forth.  Please, any input will be greatly appreciated.

As seen in this video:

Is it possible to emulate that "sliding" feature where you can switch to different windows so easily? I can't believe it's not a built in feature it would be so much easier to navigate through windows than having to point and click on them!

A:Is it possible to get that Mac three finger swipe feature?

The closest you can get in standard windows shell would be probably using Synaptics driver for touchpad and setting 3 finger gesture to Win+Tab (or two times it to switch between windows) or Ctrl+Tab (to switch between tabs).

Of course, there would be no "sliding" animation itself, only standard Win+tab animation.

Everything works absolutely fine except gestures on touchpad.
WRONG -> Three finger swipe-up opens cortana, swipe-down opens system params.
Expected opened apps to be shown and minimization of opened windows. It was so for a while but then suddenly stopped working.
Everything checked correctly in DELL touchpad settings.

How can I solve this issue?

Hi @Bags2, Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand from your posts that you are having an issue with your HP ENVY TouchSmart m7 Notebook and the Fingerprint reader not working correctly. You can do a system restore. System restore will help if something automatically updated and did not go well on the Notebook. When performing a System restore please note remove any and all USB devices. Disconnect all non-essential devices as they can cause issues. Please get back to me how this goes. If  you wish to say Thanks for my efforts to help, click the Thumbs up to give me a Kudos.   Thanks.

Hi all, I'm not specifically a technical expert, but this morning when I booted up my windows 7 professional laptop something was completely missing. Usually to login I use the finger swipe recognition and in white writing this usually appears as " swipe finger to login " above the admin login button, however this seems to be missing and swiping my finger on the sensor does not do a thing. I should also mention when first set up windows this was stupidly my only way of getting into my computer and now am stuck and confused. Thank you if you may offer any help.

Hey everyone,
I am having a problem with the UPEK software that came with my laptop. It doesnt respond like it is supposed to when i swipe my finger on the sensor if im at the desktop. Normally, it would have a pop-up. But now nothing. Also, if I am in IE8, I would normally swipe my finger, and there would be a pop-up asking if i wanted to save my password, and nothing again. I know my sensor is working because i use it to log in and i use it to sign into the Protector Suite program.
Anyone know why?

Thanks,

I'm using an HP Spectre x360, with Windows 8.1 (factory installed).  I have the most up-to-date Synaptics touchpad drivers, as obtained from the HP website under my computer model number. The problem is when trying to use the Synaptics 3-finger swipe in Internet Explorer 11.  It does not work reliably.  Sometimes I'll have to swipe multiple times before the swipe will register and the browser will navigate backward or forward accordingly.  It seems as if there's some sort of focus problem, like an initial swipe or two creates the proper focus, and then a final swipe finally causes the appropriate navigation.  The behavior will change depending on the website.  For very simple sites, sometimes a single swipe will suffice, but with more complex sites, the problems tends to surface. Can this be fixed with the Synaptics drivers, with a registry edit, or with some other hack?

Whenever I swipe in from the left of the screen in Windows 8.1, the programs I have open - usually only Outlook and Chrome - sit side-by-side, each taking up half of the screen.

That's ok, but when I close one of them by dragging the divider to the right or just closing it normally, the remaining program does not resize to its previous setting and stays at the split screen 50% size.

Is there any way around this, as it's very annoying.

Hello, i got a fresh L570 with Win7 Pro. I played some with the touchpad settings and due to this turned off the bottom right click botton.I got a message that overall click mode would be changed. After reacitvating the bottom right button it does not look like to rechange the overall click mode as well because then it seems to happen that when clicking right it does both, right and left click at the same time.Unfortunately there was not "back to standard config" button.(this may be another bug) I installed newest drivers for windows 7 which seem to restore standard config.Current driver is: ThinkPad Ultra Nav from Alps Electronics from 10.04.2017 Version: 8.217.1616.117 Now I face another problem:I often keep one finger on the bottom buttons left/ right while the finger of the other hand is moving on the pad. This works because the touchpad knows the left finger is on the buttons.I then move as said with the right finger and sometimes with the left finger do a click (left or right). When talking about the bottom buttons I mean real buttons (which cause a click noise) and not the soft-tap of the pad. 1)This works pretty good if I: lift the right finger (which was moving) and after that do the click--> when doing a left click, a left click is executed and vice versa 2)This works only 50% if I: keep the right finger down on touchpad (but not moving any more) and then do a click--> when doing a left click, a left click is executed and vice versa ... After that I updated to W8.1 but I didn't deleted the data of the scanned fingers.

In W8.1 I haved triy to save again the data of my fingers but the software said that it is not possible beacause in the memory of the sensor are the data of my fingers.

I haved read that these data are in a non volatile memory on the sensor.

How I can erase this data?

Thanks

A:Portege Z30-A-183 - Erase Finger data in Finger Sensor

Hi

Yes the fingerprint information is not saved on the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) of your computer but on the certain chip.

Usually the fingerprint has to be removed using the Fingerprint Utility but if this will not work after the new OS installation, I would recommend you to go back to the previous state before changing the system and to use the fingerprint software which was used for fingerprint registration.

Details here:
http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/support/items/faq/386

But in case the fingerprint would not work even using the Win 7 version, I think that only Toshiba authorized service provider would be able to delete the already registered fingerprints.

Hey. So I recently bought a second hand X250. There are no issues, and once I updated the drivers, most evreything seemed to be working fine. The only issue I have is with the two finger scrolling. So, two finger scrolling itself is fine, but if I lift a finger, it keeps scrolling even when I'm moving with one finger. For example, I'm Scrolling through a page for a link, I find it, then want to click on it. As I move my finger, the screen scrolls instead of the cursor moving. The simple solution would be to just lift my fingers and put it back down, but at this point, it's a habit. I've seen a couple of other posts about it, but havne't seen any solutions. Has anyone found a fix for this?

Sorry about the urgency but in a couple of days I'm leaving the country and this PC for a year. I ran into problems. Of course I also have other things to do, finish packing etc.
I created an image a few days ago of my SSD holding the OS. I then removed it, replaced it with its original HDD.
The result from the image on my HDD, though only a few days old, still needed Windows to update itself. Anyhow, in my PC I had 3 physical drives (2 HDD, 1 SSD). The SSD with only the OS and software installed, The other 2 drives were as such
1 drive had D: and E: and the other had F:
I removed the 2nd drive (D and E) prior to switching.
Somehow my image, my new drive, now has my HD with both 'C:' and 'D:' allocating 'D' with 100MB out of 250MB to it. Inside 'D:' I see, Recycle bin, Boot, System Volume folders along with BOOTSECT.BAK and bootmgr (C: also has these same folders and files).
Disk Management shows "Disk 0" as Basic, 139.73GB online, & then on the right has 'D:' 1st as '100MB NTFS, Healthy Primary and then C: as System Drive, Healthy (System boot, Page file, Active, Crash Dump, Primary Partition.)
As you can see it is a very small drive to start off with & I'm wondering if I could somehow merge the 2 or what. Once I solve this problem I will then place back my actual 2nd HDD which was the D: Drive
Thank you

Hello and I'm at my wits end on this ( long story ) so I'm begging at this point,
I have a Dell laptop Inspiron 8500 that I used extensively for work. 2ghz cpu P4m, 2gig ram, 160gig hitachi HD.

A couple of times in the past few months it has occasionally came up with only a flashing cursor in the top left. Now it does it once a week at least( update: even more frequent ). I've cannot boot into safe mode. The bios settings seem ok. I can only boot when it's like this from a bootable ISO CD.
( ie Acronis rescue disk or XP setup )

To workaround so far, when this happens: I remove the laptop drive then use another computer to read the drive using a usb to mini IDE adapter to read off my recent work, I then re-insert and run the Hitachi factory tests for this drive via bootable ISO: It always passes fine. The drive reads fine too via the usb or in the laptop using a boot disk.
Then I use "Acronis True Image home" to restore the drive back to the last backup( which I do 2 times weekly now because of this ) It takes 3hours to restore the image, and then I copy back my recent work , and all works fine for about a week( or now hours ).

I bought "ASO advanced Sytem Optimizer" and cleaned up the registry, and defragged the drive using "AShampoo Magic Defreg". I was excited because I thought it was a registry problem or fragmentation issue.

It worked fine all week and seems faster even. I was happy.

Today it did the same no-boot thin... Read more

So, I encountered the Warcraft III 'Unable to initialize base sound services, sound is disabled.' error about 2 hours ago. I never saw it before so I looked it up to see if there was any easy solutions, and not seeing any I restarted doubting it would take anything more than that.

Begin the woes. It now crashes during the splash screen, gives a blue screen that goes by too quick to read and then restarts going to the Start Windows Normally/Safe Mode screen and loops continuously. I can't use my keyboard at this screen so I can't try Safe Mode or last configuration.

Other issue that's blocking me from fixing this: The Windows CD, and a Recovery Console iso(left over for when I had to use it the last time something like this happened), won't boot. Or rather, they won't boot unless my hard drive is disconnected.

Not to come to a doctor and suggesting my own treatment, but maybe if I could get my keyboard to work during the Start Windows Normally screen? I read that it's because it doesn't boot before something or some such. I am able to get to the BIOS and use the keyboard there, is there something I can change to prioritize its booting?

Possibly pertinent: During one of the several bootups chkdsk started to run and completed successfully finding nothing wrong. By 'nothing wrong' I mean it didn't delete anything like it usually does when it happens.

I've had my hp envy laptop for around 3 years, my husband bought it for me to do my MSc, and it has been used primarily for studying at my desk. I noticed the back left hinge coming apart a few months ago, and i had to physically push the laptop back together. I've always been really careful with it and don't understand how this happened. Now it's come apart so far the fan has failed and there is a warning message when i start it up advising me not to use the laptop without an operational fan. I'm essentially laptop less and am going back to do my phd in September. I really need the laptop for molecular modelling. I thought it was just bad luck until i saw the other posts advising this is a common problem with this make and model. I'm really disappointed as with the software and accessories bought on the day my husband spent around 900. For the amount of use it had before breaking, i feel like it was poor value for money. Can anyone advise me how I can get this fixed? I live on the Isle of Wight so i don't even think we have any local repair people ?

If I turn off the monitor (which I do every night as I need the computer on 24/7) when I turn it on all the desktop icons have moved back to the left.

This DOES NOT happen on a reboot or a shut the computer down and turn it on.

Medium icons, all power saving is turned off, auto arrange icons and align icons to grid are both unchecked.

I am not at all computer savvy...be gentle and help this old guy!

A:If I Turn Off My Monitor, All Icons Move Back To The Left (Win 10)

Can I ask something for clarification? You say arrange to auto grid is turned off. What do you actually mean? There are two settings:
Auto arrange iconsAlign icons to grid

Are both turned off or only one?

Thanks!

I gave my laptop for repair of my fan which was giving very weird sound and then I got call back, which I could not attend. They left a message for me to call them back with a number. When i called on that number it got redirected to general voice mail. I asked them to connect me to the reapair center personal. Now the main headache starts. They can't connect me to the center. All they can do is that they can generate some ticket/requiest saying that those personal need to contact me. Even after calling three times, I haven't got call back yet. Also, as that person has sent me a voice mail, he must be waiting for my answer and certainily won't call me back. So, now my laptop is going to be in the facility for forever and i need it by 14th Dec, which won't happen. I don't have any medium to reach those people, nor those hp customer service people. As their policy says, if they can't contact me in 3 business days, my laptop will come back unrepaired.  And, also it will miss the delivery date of 14th.  Worst service support ever.  And worst part is that evevytime I call them, each person says I don't see any ticket assignment by anyone to get you call back. Unbelievable. So what, they just say whatever they want to say without doing anything.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details). If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

Hi all:

This is my first post. I'm trying to help my 80 year mother 1000 miles away fix her computer. They have a Dell desktop running Windows XP service pack 2 is installed (I think).

It appears her mouse buttons reversed and I cannot figure out how that happened (as no jokers have access) and even stranger, I walked her through the old Control Panel - Mouse - Button - Button Configuration and we tried to reset the buttons to Left as primary. But it did not work!

Is this a virus problem or something else? Please help me and mom :)

Thanks in advance. kurtk

A:Mouse Buttons Reversed and Won't Change Back to Left as primary

after changing settings did you try restarting pc. if she has internet you can use remote assistance to access her pc and change settings. did you try the mouse in another usb port and changed the settings. finally would recommend system restore that might solve it hopefully.

I have a strong wish to remove the windows 7 taskbar from its stratup. But I need that 'start button' left. Also I'd appreciate the opportunity to get it back by some hotkey (Win+W, etc.). I'e tried like 6 different programs but not a single works like I want.
'Taskbar hider' 1.0/1.1/1.2 - doesn't work at all.
'Taskbar Eliminator' (latest version) - removes everything (including 'start button') and has neither any window nor hotkeys working due to the following errors (see images at the bottom)

Other tries either remove everything including 'start button' or it's needed to push some hotkey every time after windows is loaded.

The best thing I've found is
Hide Taskbar in Windows 8 | 7 with a hotkey
But I need it to be launched atomatically without my pressing Ctrl+Esc combination after each windows startup. Also when there is a 'check' mark on the auto-hide mode of the taskbar setting, it has a number of issues with showing 'start button' orb. Also the taskbar is shown again from time to time after launching full screen apps.

And, yes, I've read this thread all along Remove Taskbar 100%

This version by Generator Remove Taskbar 100%
Has two different .exe to switch it on/off and removes also 'start button'. But it works properly (always hidden).

So what I need is
1) Always removed taskbar
2) Always present 'start button' orb
3) Auto launch on windows startup
4) Showing/hiding taskbar by pressing some hotkey combination

I deadly wish someone could edit it... Please, h... Read more
