I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Cant create ODBC connection data resources

You may have the wrong driver as the error suggests.

Try Informix:

Hello everyone
Ok, So here is the deal. I have a My SQL database that is being used with a Access 2003 front end. Its using the MY SQL ODBC driver and a User DSN. I have to deploy this front end to about 200 people and don't want to visit each computer to do so. I need to install the drive which i have built a script to do, and i need to create a DSN. How do i create a User DSN or a system DSN with a batch file with a script. I tried to use a File DSN,Which would have made my life easy as i could just have copied that file to all the computers, But it promoted the user to log into the database when a form is open. Which is no good. Can anyone help me?

Create a batch script for Oracle ODBC connection

Hi all,
I have a strange problem that occur on lots of our machine,
We deploy a fresh Windows 7 32Bit OS from SCCM.
I created a script that adds a "Microsoft ODBC for Oracle" DSN on all of our workstation (part of the task sequence).
I tested the script and its work great, but...
Some users have problem that the DSN is not showing on the "ODBC Data Source Administrator"

Now, when I try to manually add the DSN, the moment I select "Microsoft ODBC for Oracle" i get the following error -

I'm googling the web for few days now and cant find a solution...
Please help...

A:Microsoft ODBC for Oracle - Fail to create

Correct, I based my opinion on the error about the components apparently missing. Here is a Knowledge base article about troubleshooting this very issue:
How To Troubleshoot an ASP-to-Oracle Connectivity Problem
There is a similar thread on the Oracle forums which contains some solutions you can attempt to fix your problem:

I have a new HP 6200 small form factor that came pre-installed with Windows 7 64bit. I installed our corporate copy of MS Office Pro 2003 and then installed UPS Worldship 2011, which requires an ODBC to connect to our Access database.

When I go into the ODBC to set up the connection under System DSN, it's completely blank. No Access DSN, no Excel DSN, completely blank. If I try to ADD a DSN the only options shown are SQL DSNs which I can not use.

Initially, I called UPS Worldship Support. They referred me to Microsoft. After nearly 2 hrs on the phone with MS, they told me to call HP since HP preinstalled the Windows 7 and they handle any software/warranty issues.

So, I called HP. Their support is the pits. Nobody I talked with even knew what a DSN is (they kept telling me it was DNS not DSN and they are 2 different things!!). Then, they suggested I call Microsoft and PAY to have them help me.

This is a brand new PC and it's a Windows 7 issue, not Worldship, not hardware, yet I can get any help.

I've tried some of the options on the various forum (running the 32 bit.exe, copying files, etc) and nothing has worked.

Anyone have any ideas HOW I can get the Access and Excel DSNs in the ODBC Manager? I need help asap as this is a critical PC to our shipping area. Without it, we are unable to ship via UPS and losing $$$.

Thanks for any suggestions because I'm fed up with Microsoft AND HP!!!

Hello tandrews, welcome to the forum.

First, let me say that the subject of your query is not actually in my knowledge base, However, in an effort to assist I did a search and thought I would offer the following:

I need to create a system DSN that links a program to a database (to keep it simple). I've already done this, however I have moved the database location to another computer. It is imperative that I recreate the system DSN with the exact same database name as before. The problem is: even though I've removed the previous dsn, when I go to create the new one it denies me by saying this database name has already been used. Sure enough the database name still exists in the drop-down list of database names in the create databse dialog box. I've checked the ODBC.ini files and manually removed any references to the database name I want to re-use to no avail. How can I re-use (or clear) a previously used database name?

I'm not sure if i'm posting this in the correct area, but please let me know and I will move to appropriate forum.

I have a application I use that connects to a default ODBC connection "Connection1" which is the production enviroment. I want to create a shortcut on my desktop to point to the TEST enviroment so I don't have to go through and change odbc settings all the time. I added a SQL Server connection under System DSN "Connection2" which point to test database. In the shortcut properties I added to the end of the Target location "-oConnection2" so it looks like this:

C:\programfiles\app\app.exe -o"Connection2"

I saw this setup at another location and trying to set it up on my workstation. I know it's something simple i'm missing. Any help or direction would be great.

I've developed a site www.kitkrazy.com using PHP, Access and an ODBC connection. It works very well ... most of the time.

Every now and again -- say every three months -- the site crashes, and I get the error message ...

Most recently I got ...

Warning: SQL error: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] System resource exceeded., SQL state S1001 in SQLExecDirect in E:\home\Default\kitkrazy.com\htdocs\include\topthree.php on line 15
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] System resource exceeded.

When I challenge the hosting company on this they always advise me to use a DSN-less connection. Well, it's got to the point where I'm thinking to myself, why don't I just go DSN-less and the hell with it.

So I took a look. And it seems that I'm going to have to rewrite all my SQL queries and database calls. Unless you know different ...

Is there a simple way to convert all my code from ODBC to DSN-less?

A:PHP: Converting from ODBC to DSN-less connection

You should probably convert to MySQL or a real database if you are having trouble with too many users accessing the database. You may also want to check all of your code to see that it is clean and you are closing all open object when the program is done with them. You will have the exact same problem with with a DSN-less connection and it will actually slow your site down. Rewriting the connection string is the only change you will need to make and if you use an include file for the DB connection string all you need to do is change one file.

I'm running 2005 SQL server on Windows 2008 server. I have both Windows 7 and XP ODBC connections to the server. Everything was working fine but the server was running slow so I tried a windows update. The update made my ODBC connection go flakey, but only on Windows 7. Testing the connection would be successful, for several tests, then fail and you would have to reboot the workstation. I have both SQL server and Native Client. Now I am unable to create a connection with either. I've uninstalled the updates which hasn't helped. It seems like the update changed a security setting somewhere. Creating a new connection now fails with SQL state 08001 and server error 10060

"ODBC;DSN=MS Access Database;DBQ=D:\Acces7dat\STOCKS.mdb;DefaultDir=D:\Acces7dat;DriverId=25;FIL=MS Access;MaxBufferSize=2048;PageTim" _

All this works fine for the last three years until I have installed Windows 7 64 bit . Googling the problem found that I have to run the Windows/SysWOW64/obdcad32.exe file . Doing this appears the ODBC Data Source Admiinstrator with the tabs :
User DSN , System DSN , File DSN , Drivers , Tracing , Connection Pooling and About , and I can't configure all this in order to create a ODBC connection . First , is this the correct way to solve the problem and second how to setup the ODBC Data Source Admiinstrator under all these tabs ? Any help ? thanks in advance.

We are moving an old Access project from XP too Windows 7 32 and .Net.

However there is something wrong with Windows 7! When I try and create an ODBC link via ODBC Administrator to allow the software to access data tables on SQL Server on the Windows 2003 Server it just keeps producing a message saying the TCP/IP port does not exist or access is denied.

Having tried the same experiment with an XP computer it worked fine, no issues, but Windows 7 strangely doesn't???

The SQL Server is on standard port 1433, I tried turning the firewall off in Windows 7 but that made no difference, when installing Windows 7 and connecting it too the network it complained it needed a DNS address so I put one on the server and set that in the Windows 7 client.

The XP client never needed one, could that be linked to this odd issue?

My first experience of Windows 7 this is and it seems like Microsoft have struck again by taking something that works and making it unnecessarily difficult...

Of course I could be wrong

I have two laptops at my company that have Windows 7 Home - thus cannot login to AD/Domain as a specific user. They in-turn use a local administrative account setup on those laptops. We have a database setup with linked connections to our SQL Server 2005.

Whenever we're trying to access those linked tables we get the following error message:
We can bypass this issue by manually typing in the Login/Password within this error prompt.
What's strange is that we have ODBC setup to use the SQL Server Authentication:
That SHOULD allow us to not use Windows Authentication (as you can see it's trying to use the 'Guest' account on Windows 7. I've tried making this change through both x32 and x64 versions of ODBC (located in wow64). I've searched all over the internet concerning this issue but no one seems to have anything similar. This used to work a few weeks ago and I don't know of anything we changed other than a few system updates.

The SQL Server's Security is setup to use both authentication methods:
Our SQL Server gives us an Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 11
A quick Google search explains that State 11 means, "Valid login but server access failure".

Any help please? The only solution I have right now is to install W7 Pro...

A:Access & ODBC connection issue on W7 Home, State 11

Sound like a Windows permissions issue to see the SQL server.

You could also map a network drive using other credentials. This will authenticate the computer onto the domain.

I don't have a networking background but I am responsible for coming up with a solution so any help is much appreciated. I have a main office that is networked and another local office that is networked and also connects to the main office which has the DNS server. Now what happened was cables were cut caused by construction near the local office and the network and wifi was down at the local office but not at the main office which was not affected by this issue because it's at a different location but the the local office network printers and our connection to the network data servers which are located at our local office were down and they are not located at the main office. My problem is this since the cable was cut and needed to be repaired so the internet and wifi was down and the local office could not connect to the main office because of this but how or what can I do to make the local network printers and local network shares work if this happens again? Did the local network printers and local network drive not work even though they are located at the local office because the DNS is at the main office and if I would setup another DNS cache at the local office would this fix the problem and how would I being to do this?

I've Googled for this but cannot find anything relevant. First off, all computers on the current router are running Windows 7 Pro and this is not a domain network. I want to do all this configuration within the routers if possible.

This network currently consists of several computers on one router we'll call SSID1. We want to add another public/guest router we'll call SSID2 that will handle public access to the internet. SSID2 needs to be totally unaware of and firewalled from resources on SSID1.

Can someone point me to some Internet resources that deal with this subject and/or tell me what terms to Google.

A:Need to do this on same Internet Connection: SSID1 resources unaware of SSID2

Hi Alex Ethridge,

The easiest way to do this is to use a wireless router which broadcasts 2 signals -- one for guests and one for the main home network.

It appears that your ISP is not running a DHCP server. DHCP allows you to request an IP address and DNS server addresses automatically. So, you may have to manually set the IP address and DNS server addresses.

I have a lovely report that shows the sum of four tables of forestry information based on a parcelID. These are not subreports.

My control source for each is something like SumOfTheseTypeOfTrees, SumOfThoseTypeOfTrees, SumOfMyTypeOfTrees, SumOfYourTypeOfTrees. Great fine.

However, some parcels don't have records for (example) TheseTypeOfTrees so the report is just blank in that spot. This would be no big deal except that I want to use the report to get a grand total for each parcel. If any of those control boxes is blank, the grand total sum is also blank. I don't want to have to go around adding a zero to all my tables for every parcel that doesn't have (example) TheseTypesOfTrees but I need a grand total to show up. Can I get around this?

Is it possible to Get an extra data partition?
If not, should i store my user data on c? What if win7 crashes, then i Will loose everything on c.

On my old pc, i had A dedicated d-partition for data. This is not possible on my new pc. Or is it?

A:Not able to create data partition

Yes, it is possible to add a data partition.

BUT, you cannot exceed 4 primary partitions. I assume you already have 4 primary partitions.

The best choice is probably to convert your current C partition to logical. You could then shrink C and make a data partition from the space generated by shrinking.

DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT say yes to any choice involving dynamic partitions. If you attempt to make a data partition right now, without first converting to logical, you will likely be asked to accept dynamic partitions. SAY NO. Better yet, don't try to make more partitions right now.

Best thing you can do right now:

Post a screen shot of Windows Disk Management so we can see your current partition structure.

I successfully installed Win 7 Home Premium x64 to UEFI/GPT disk (3TB).
Now I need to create a couple of data partitions ON THE SAME disk drive.

Questions :
Do those data partitions need to be also GPT partitions (on the disk with GPT) ?
Or is there a choice : GPT or MBR ?

.................................................................................................... ....

After Win 7 install (UEFI) on disk "0" - I wanted reconnect also my (older) HDD with old Win 7 installation (legacy BIOS). But this resulted in boot error of freshly installed (UEFI) Win 7.

My questions :
1. Is it possible to use 2 HDDs : one with GPT and the second with MBR (and the second operating system in dual boot) in the same computer?
2. How should I connect the second drive properly (with 2 MBR drives it wasn't a problem) ?

A:need to create a couple of data partitions

1. Yes. I have a GPT data HDD (4TB), two MBR data HDDs (2 TB each), and a MBR SSD boot drive in my desktop computer.
2. I connected my GPT HDD the same way I connected my others.

I don't know if you can mix GPT partitions with MBR partitions on a drive or not but I would play it safe and make them the same. However, that leads to a question I want to ask. Why do you want to make two data partitions on the same drive?

Had to cancel.  I was eventually able to load a boot section but only if I unchecked the data section.  So the Q drive is corrupted.  Is there any way to recover a proper recovery partition for this laptop?

How do I create a password so you would need a password to clear private data in firefox?

A:How do create a password for clear private data

Hi, welcome to TSF

The 'clear private data' feature is not password protected. You might be able to do it through the about:config settings or there might be an addon available, but I can't find anything.

Is your Firefox profile password-protected, and have you set a master password in Tools > Options > Security tab? If other people are using the computer, do they all have their own Firefox profiles?

You could install the Menu Editor addon which allows you to remove menu entries. This would remove 'Clear Private Data' from the Tools menu, but would not disable the keyboard shortcut, Ctrl-Shift-Del.

I have a major problem crunching large amounts of numbers coming off an instrument I work with but the file format it puts the results into is terrible and I cannot change it. So I must export the results in a format which needs some serious formating before it becomes of any use to me.

I have used excel macros to delete rows and rows with specific text values. But now I would like to create a macro that will reorganise this data in a more user friendly format. I did use the sort asending command to partially solve the formating problem but it would still require alot of work/time to organise it into the final format I need.

This is the current format of the instrument date:

Analyte Meas. Intensity
Rh 10
Y 98
Cs 66
Co 98
Analyte Meas. Intensity
Rh 10
Y 114
Cs 72
Co 86
Analyte Meas. Intensity
Rh 20
Y 108
Cs 44
Co 90
Analyte Meas. Intensity
Rh 20
Y 68
Cs 44
Co 66
Analyte Meas. Intensity
Rh 490.008
Y 58
Cs 34
Co 78
Used the "sort asending" command to separate data into useful form but need to get the data into either of the two tables shown below

Analyte Meas. Intensity
Analyte Meas. Intensity
Analyte Meas. Intensity
Analyte Meas. Intensity
Analyte Meas. Intensity
Co 98
Co 86
Co 90
Co 66
Co 78
Cs 66
Cs 72
Cs 44
Cs 44
Cs 34
Rh 10
Rh 10
Rh 20
Rh 20
Rh 490.008
Y 98
Y 114
Y 108
Y 68
Y 58
I would like to turn the data into this final format using a macro.

Co Cs Rh Y
98 66 10 98
86 72 10 114
90 44 20 108
66 44 20 68
78 34 490.008 58

In the past, it seemed sensible to create a separate F: partition to hold my data away from the operating system on the C: partition. The advantage was that malware is less likely to cross into the data partition. Also it becomes possible to backup and restore each partition separately. A good solution to a malware incident might be simply to restore a previous version of the operating system without touching the data partition.
I have redirected the following folders to the F: drive: desktop, documents, downloads, music, pictures, videos.
This has worked reasonably well except that some software installer programs refuse to work from the F: partition and need to be run from the C: partition.
Times have changed over the last few years and I am wondering if this is still worth the trouble. Perhaps it would be easier to keep successive backups of the entire hard drive and, when necessary, restore everything at one time.
I would welcome any thoughts on this.

A:Create a separate F: partition to hold my data

I still use 3 partitions: One for Windows and programs, one for data files, one for my tools.Personally, I think the choice is up to you though - how you want to arrange your files and so on.

I wonder how I can create a plot of a data range that will vary depending on the project length.

I have a data range displaying a monthly result of a contract. The contract could range from 3 years to 20 years. Currently I have just plotted the range I need, but how can I make Excel to select the entire range (20 years x 12) but just plot the acutal range (3 years x 12). Currently I will get a loooong diagram with only data in the left corner displaying values fort the first years but zero for the rest of the 17 years x12. Any tips how to solve this?

I am trying to create a log where people will be able to record violations of rules by individual employees. The problem is I cannot figure out a way to have it so after the violation is entered the person entering it cannot change the data or that entry or other entries.

The rationale behind it is we do not want them to be able to change their or others information. I do not mind running the risk of having to clean up the file from bad entries or typos if it would better serve my main purpose to have it that way.

A:Excel: Can you create a log where you can ENTER data but not modify/delete?

You can do this by having an Input sheet and actually saving the data on a different "protected" workbook.
Or better still just use Access.
