BFG 7950gtoc 512 and Autocad Animation Issues/System setup issues

Q: BFG 7950gtoc 512 and Autocad Animation Issues/System setup issues

Hi all I have been trying to set up the computer for 3D animation(fully rendered) and modelling but I am trying to set it up to work as fast as it can. I am rendering a building with shadows lights etc which renders fine for pictures but takes days to render 1024*800 avi 30fps 1800frames ( yes I know thats alot but i'm trying to push the envelope). I've stripped windows down to no extra processes barebones etc. When the computer renders snimation in presentation mode i notice that processors only go to 100% when its trying to present me a realtime video image.

Heres my specs
XP home SP2 (as im not about to switch to vista, pro etc)
BFG 7950GTOC 512mb gddr3 PCI-e Driver 162.50 from autodesk
intel dual core 6420 @2.13 ghz
3gig ram (4GIG INSTALLED BUT I KNOW IT WON'T TAKE IT IN HOME) (all the same Ram info pc2 5300 cls 240-pin dimm) (model KVR667D2N5K2/2G)
300gb sata HD MAXTOR
Mother board is a Asus P5N32-SLI premium WI-FI AP SOLO
I've updated 3d config with .xml file with the latest version as of today.

For furture considerations given the mobo and the other specs can you tell me maybe a better configuration and maybe even card types or better processing power?

I am aware I can do a pentium quad processor.

I am also looking to do better in the video card department later on. What is the best cards (price range 900-2000 and 300-900). I know quadro fits the bill but which one, what Am i looking for when I'm buying one etc etc.

Also I notice a lot of dell quadros for sale on ebay anything to be aware of?

Also not being an expert on ram is the ram causing me grief in any way?

Is there any way to set up the ram properly in the bios menu?

I know I can take advantage of the 4 gigs but im not about to switch to any new os as they have too many bugs and 64-bit OS are extremely hard to find drivers.

Oh an I plan on sticking with this system right now as it's more a cost thing than anything else at the moment.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I am looking for ideas on the best server, OS, hardware and software configuration for a multi-user (5-8 computers/terminals) to share a broadband link, files, backup system, and printers. The software being run would be AutoCAD in addition to MS Office and accounting software.

The existing hardware are several desktop and notebook systems running Windows XP.

I don't know anything about server technology and don't want to become an expert. My preference would be to get something configured that someone else (a third party service company) could monitor and maintain. I just want to run the software quickly and efficiently without worrying about security, etc.

Any and all ideas and websites or companies to check out would be appreciated. Thank you.

I'm new to this forum, and new to customizing Windows 7.
Anyway I've got a Asus netbook with win7 starter, I'm trying to install a new boot animation (can do it fine on my tablet).
I've downloaded win7bootupdater, downloaded a boot animation, UN loaded the .rar file associated with the animation, and applied it to the computer. I get a message saying "text and animation applied successfully" but I restarted my computer and it shows the Windows load bar with the copyright underneath.

I've tried it multiple times with different boot animations and pictures on my computer with no luck. I'm lost.

Welcome to Seven Forums n0z4a2. What is the resolution of your netbook?

Small Screen Size Problems

If your native resolution is below 1024x768 (for example on netbooks) you will always have the Vista-style boot animation. There is no solution for this right now and it cannot be modified with Vista boot modifiers.

hi guys! thanks in advance for any help.

I;m using powerpoint 2007 and having a little problem with the animation setting. i want to know if this can be done, i;m testing with 4 slides:

Slide 1 is a menu, with 4 shapes that act as a hiperlink (1 shape for slide 2, one for 3, etc.)
Slide 2 is blank, but changes to slide 3 after 2 seconds
Slide 3 slide 3 has a picture that moves through a fixed path and a shape to return to slide 1
Slide 4 plays a short sound and has a button to return to slide 1

the problem is when running the presentation. if i click the button on slide 1 for slide 2, it makes the transition, then after 2 seconds, it changes to slide 3 and the image moves through the path. I then click the shape to return to menu (slide 1). i click slide 4 shape, moves to slide 4, plays sound, then shape to return to menu and done. That works fine, the problem is i can;t run the animation or transition more than 1 time in the presnetation. If after running the animation on slide 3, then return to slide 1 and click shape to go to slide 3 again, the animation is already done and does nothing, (or in case slide 4, sound doesn't play again). Is there anyway to enable running animations more than 1 time per presentation?

Hope I explained myself clearly =)

A:Solved: Powerpoint animation issues...

You have: The microsoft gurus THINK that if you go to a slide for a second time you won't want to go through the animations again.

A. Place a blank slide before 3 and 4 and give it an auto transion of zero seconds, link to these slides not 3 & 4
B. Make 3 & 4 one slide custom shows

Let me preface this problem with my willingness to pay a reasonable fee for a solution, or for consultation resulting in a successful solution. If someone solves my problem publicly in this forum, I promise that I will find a way to STILL provide that person a cash bounty reward and/or some free hardware as a thank-you! I may also be interested in paying for consultation on an alternative implementation if it's simply not possible to do what I want using the method and setup I'm attempting. Okay, About three months ago, I got hacked HARD...permissions were changed, administrator rights were removed from my administrator accounts, etc. i was flabbergasted. THe iactually didn't bother me though until I ran a MBAM scan and found 133 viruses and spyware instances on my drive (NOT including tracking cookies!). I cleaned and recleaned, using MBAM, SuperantiSpyware, Avira, running each one in safe mode first, then loading into my normal account and running them, and finally erasing my user account and creating a new one. But even after the new user account was created with Administrator privileges, I still routinely received virus and Malware threat warnign flags from MBAM and Avira. Eventually, Avira and MBAM were disabled and Avira was "deleted" (Windows will not uninstall because the setup.exe file has been 'Changed" and won't reinstall it because I don't have "Administrator privileges" on my Administrator accounts!) even though at startup I receive an error message saying that Avira has been corrupted. The most telling issue is that antivirus and spyware/Malware scans come up clean on Safe mode scans, but using my normal account, the machine reboots. Using Superantispyware I notice that it's always during the memory test that this occurs (and in Safe Mode, it passes through this section with no issue). Hey guys
So I thought had this nailed down pretty well and was fairly certain it would run without any complications concerning Bios and other various things.
I've set up a computer for my girlfriend and it seems to sometimes run really slowly or load rather slowly. When I've tried to set the Bios to optimal performance(RAM to the recommended settings as shown on the hardware itself and CPU) it takes perhaps one or two reboots before the system refuses to boot and gives a "Overclocking Has Failed!" message. I tried running with just default settings and simply changing boot order which seems to let the system run but the computer still runs rather slowly and it seems to come in periods. I've tried monitoring the hardware when running the computer but temperatures dont seem to be rising to anything dangerous.

Have just gotten AOL reinstalled on a recently malware-damaged computer running XP Home.

AOL used to connect automatically when you launched it, but now it fails to unless you manually connect the 'AOL Broadband' network connection from the Network Connections control panel.

Connecting before hand everything is fine, but how can this be set back to how it used be?

When you 'search' for modems within AOL it never finds it.

Am using a BT Voyager 105 USB ADSL modem, with the AOL drivers - have tried two of these modems to no avail, change ADSL filters. I'm now scratching my head...

Where am I going wrong, any ideas?

Many thanks.

Hey everyone.

I hope this is the right place for this post. I recently bought a Samsung 960 EVO M.2 ssd but i'm having trouble getting it set up. After installing the card I tried to format it but there's no option for me to do so. I initialized it when prompted to and chose GPT instead of MBR. The disk is visible in disk management and says it's online with no errors, Samsungs own software (Magician) also confirms this and all drives are up to date. I tried going into the BIOS and setting it up, whilst there is no M.2 option for me I did select X4 mode. Nothings working and i'm not that tech savvy to be honest so if anyone can help i'd appreciate it.

First of all, thanks for taking your time to read this.
A week ago, i transferred my HDD with the Windows 7 installation along with 8 GB of RAM and the PSU to a completely new motherboard.
Since my download rate is only 240kb/ps, i didn't want to go through the trouble of re-downloading my whole library of games, movies and music of over 500 GB.
So i installed all the drivers for my new graphics card and the drivers for the motherboard and the CPU after rebooting on the new system.
Except for the slow booting, everything was fine at first.
Games like Crysis 3, Tomb Raider, Far Cry 4, Metro 2033 Redux and Final Fantasy 14 ran on highest settings with more than 30 fps.
While playing Far Cry 4 2 days ago, i noticed weird hick-ups and stutters, up to the point where it became unplayable and a window popped up, asking me about memory leaks.
When i rebooted my System, everything was fine again.
Today, Final Fantasy 14 crashed twice, a window saying that the game closed in an unusual way.
I noticed that the Games start to slow down when my computer has not been rebooted in 2 days.

People have told me to re-install Windows 7 to have a completely clean set up, to make everything run smooth and to shorten the booting times, but i was hoping to avoid this, due to my slow download rate :/.

Does anyone know what is causing the memory leak, or the system slow-down ?
I dont know exactly what it is, so please don't blame me for my speculations.

I was setting up a wireless router for someone. They have Road Runner for ISP and LinksysWRT54G wireless router. It was easy to set it up, and during the initial set up I was able to set up protection type, SSID name, key, everything was working good. After that I tried to set up some other configurations through browser, that is when I started having issues.Whenever I would change some of the settings, for example, name, key or disable SSID broadcast I ended up losing connection. Than after that I never could log on. Than I would have to connect through wire, and try to change everything back but wouldn't work. That is when I disabled to connection, went from the beginning and created connection again.Same thing happened again. I left it at that.Connection is secure, it uses WAP2, and the key is needed to access it.But I wanted to know how to change other settings?I am thinking that when I change something that devices don't recognize each other. When I got home I remembered, that there is a option for setting MAC addresses which can access the wireless router. If I was to store laptops MAC address in the setting first, and then tried to change other things, would I have connection than?I am sure that it is something simple, but I didn't have that much time to try everything. Thanks for the help.

I am trying ot put my server onto its own domain so that when I go out of town my laptop will still have complete access to my files at home. I created a free Dynamic DNS through DynDNS.org and have my Linksys router set up to see it. I also have their DynDNS updater software set up so that it will update their site with my new IP address when RR resets it (it sees my routers IP, not my servers which is assigned by my router, I'm assuming this is correct.) At this point I'm not quite sure what to do. I've attempted to log in through a remote connection on my laptop, which I know works because if I run through my router I get the connection, but if I go through my neighbors router to IP address of my server (the router assigned one) with my DNS as the domain name, I get nothing. If someone could give me a link on how to finish the set up so that I can see and transfer my data from my server to my laptop and vise versa or walk me though it, I would appreciate it.

Hello, I need your help with this problem.

I need to install a new program to my computer, but when I start doing that, I receive a message like this.

"Setup needs to update some windows systems files before any windows program can be installed" - The system registry indicates that another installation program still has pending or unresolved issues. These issues will be cleared when this computer is restarted. You will need to run this program again after the machine has been rebooted.

Do you want to reboot now? YES - NO

I did press YES but nothing happened. I did the same 4 times, but still doing the same. Also, I was running the Windows Update and requested Microsoft to check if I need to download any critical patch or whatever but I received a message telling me that I don't need any update now, everything is been updated.

What can I do?.., Can somebody help me?

Thank you in advance,

If you can access the network drive, you should assign it a static IP outside the dynamic IP range. then all computers (windows or not) should be able to connect via IP.

RAM: I had to change the ram before because they gave me the wrong Ghz of ram which was 1600, but now it's currently Corsair XMS3 8 GB (2 x 4GB) 1333 MHz PC3-10666 240-Pin DDR3 Memory Kit 1.5V.

The computer would start up fine but when I tried to install windows 10, I got the blue screen of death. The error was memory_managment. So I knew something had to be wrong with the ram so I figured out they sent me 1600GHz instead of 1333GHz ram. I've tried using only one stick and switching them but nothing is working. I really appreciate any help.

I had similar problems after upgrading. Can you underclock your CPU? I found that windows liked it better a little slower, like the defaults when you first plug everything in. My CPU defaulted to a 100mhz external frequency, and setup went without a hitch. Takes a bit longer, but it works.

Hi there, I have recently bought a GeForce 7600GT (link) and i utilised the 2 ports to set up it with an old moniter i had lying around. Is there any way to set it up so the two moniters work indepentantly (so i can have a game running in full mode on one and be doing something else on another). The only options it gives me in the nVidia control panel is to have them set up as 1.showing the same thing (like for presentations), 2. long horizontal monitor (windows sees them as one moniter), and 3. vertical setup (same as horizontal but top-bottom instead of left-right, and windows still sees them as one moniter). The only thing i can do at the moment is play games in windowed mode but them play far too slow for that to be a viable option, plus some games can't do that.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I have a problem connecting my hp designjet 1055cm+ a0 plotter to my computer using an rj45 ethernet cable. I have done ALL of the appropriate measures to isntall the printer, such as winzipping the driver and checking the I.P., and the printer does show up in the printers folder. However nothing ever happens when i go to print. Theres nothing wrong with the printer itself by the way, its a ok, and prints out test pages from its screen fine. its just the connection between the computer and the printer that is in dispute. I rang hp technical advice, and they checked over all of my setup and said that is was a networking issue. Something to do with my subnet mask and the range of my I.P. addresses. Please can anyone help me????, thanks

A:Network Setup Issues - HP Plotter

Please describe how the plotter is configured, and also post the following. Does it obtain it's IP address automatically, or did you assign a static IP address. Can you PING the plotter's IP address?
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands, one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

Note that there is a space before the -n or the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the - or / in the following commands.

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

I have a mac, the rest of my roomates have a PC. We're having connectivity issues. I always have full bars and it doesn't appear to be the router (though I could be wrong). When I click on the airport symbol to look at my wifi name, whenever there is an issue, there is always a section that pops up called Devices and underneath it says HP Setup. Whenever this "device" is on there, the internet is EXTREMELY slow and the server is lost. The only way to fix the problem is to either reset the router (and that only lasts for a short time) or wait for it to go away. Sometimes it won't go away at all until you reset the router. We do have a an HP printer but it's off unless in use. I don't understand how this would interfere with our server.
It happen SEVERAL times a day, sometimes every 20 minutes or so and it's EXTREMELY annoying. I experience the most issues with my mac, but things also happen with my roomates with their PCs. Sometimes the internet just won't connect at all. I'm at my wits end and resetting the router get REAL old.

I've attached a picture screen shot. Let me know if you need any more pictures to help with the problem.

Thanks for any help

Not sure if this is an XP problems or something else.

My experince has been with AMD with the motherboards, RAID, etc.

I'm trying to setup a RAID-1 with a P35 Chipset Gigabyte board GA-EP35-DS3R.

Gotta say, the setup software for the floppy is pickey (It wants to only run on its own board, so I installed WinXP-PRO SP3 on a single SATA 1TB drive, then turned on the RAID - which sees both drives, and configs for RAID1 without a problem. BTW, I also double checked this with a XP-MCE SP2 disc, same results.

But after telling the XP Setup which RAID drivers to use, (Included G-RAID) it reports back "No drives are connected to the computer".

What gives?

I'm setting up a brand new system to do video editing and trying to do a fresh clean install of WIn 7 on a new machine and having an issue I'm sure has been talked about before - but can't seem to get resolution. I'm trying to setup a Crucial SATA III 128GB SSD as my primary OS and program drive and have 3 WD RE 1TB's that are going be setup as raid 0 - Striped. No Need for redundency as I have all my video files saved on TAPE/SDHC/or DVD. Going for speed. When installing Win 7 it created a 100 MB system reserve partition on one of the RE 1TB drives (Obviously it identifies the SSD and does not try to put the System Reserve on that drive) However, it will not let me stripe the drive that it does put the SR on. I don't need the SR as I'm only running professional and do not care about bit locking. I looked at some of the posting about how to remove the SR and tried pre-allocating the partitions thru diskpart utility prior to the install , however after installing win 7 I have 1 of the RE 1TB's flagged as a system drive and active. The Entire drive as 1 partition - no longer a 100MB SR. Won't let me delete, format or stripe. At my wits end. can somone please tell me step by step how to get win 7 installed on my SSD with no SR and have all 3 RE 1TB's striped.

PS - how do I know the SSD is being identified as an SSD? Also, I have been reading alot of about the SSD setup and still trying to understand "TRIM" adn the rest. Do I neeed to do anything to help the OS work ... Read more

A:Newbie... Installing Win 7 - Setup Issues

When installing Win 7 it created a 100 MB system reserve partition on one of the RE 1TB drives

I bet this is Drive 0, put your SSD on the 0 (zero) port and you will not have that problem (requires a reinstall). The 100MB partition contains the MBR (amongst other things).

If you let the Win7 installer do everything, you (theoretically) need not do anything. It does the alignment, shuts off Defrag, etc. However, the experts still do a lot of tweaking for the additional 2% of performance. I never did that and am quite happy with the result. I even turned Superfetch back on because I found it to be better. And DO NOT move the pagefile to an HDD. That would be a big mistake.

As far as Trim is concerned, you need not do anything. You can test whether your SSD has Trim support with: fsutil behavior query DisableDeleteNotify in elevated Command Prompt.

If Command Prompt returns a 0 (zero), your drive supports TRIM and it is enabled.
If it returns 1 (one), the file system has disabled TRIM for your drive. This means your drive's controller does not support TRIM.

I have a Compaq Presario CQ50 laptop. It completely stopped working a while ago, and when I tried to reboot it using the CD I had issues, and gave up on the laptop for months. I am now trying to make it work again, and unfortunately I do not remember the specifics as to what exactly I did the first time around.

However, when I try to start it, it tries to boot XP and then flashes to a blue screen, where it says "Setup is being restarted." Soon after, I am shown a message saying "Please instert the Compact Disk labeled 'Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 CD' into your CD-ROM drive.

I have my one and only Windows XP cd already in, and after clicking Ok am told "The file 'asms' on Windows XP Professional Sercie Pack 3 CD is needed."

Can someone please help me?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, wasn't sure if it should be in the forum for GPUs or Hardware or not.

I have 2 monitors (1920 x 1080) connected to my Nvidia GTX 770:

BenQ XL2430T (Primary)
BenQ E2420HD (Secondary)

I currently have my XL2430T (Primary) set to 120hz and my E2420HD (Secondary) set to 60hz both connected by DVI.

This is the first time I have had more than a single monitor so sorry if this is a stupid question.
I have noticed that if I have a game running on my secondary monitor (60hz) while I have anything else on my primary monitor (120hz), I get FPS drops for that game.
If I play the game on my primary monitor (120hz) while having anything else on my secondary monitor (60hz) there are no FPS drops.
I also get no FPS drops if I play a game on my secondary monitor if I lower my primary monitor from 120hz to 60hz and have both monitors running at 60hz, and I know that it seems stupid to be playing a game on the secondary monitor but I am still curious.

So in short it seems I only get FPS drops with games on my secondary monitor (60hz) when my primary monitor is set above 60hz.

I guess my main question is, should this be happening? Is this just the limit of my GPU or is there something else possibly at play here?

A:New monitor (Dual Setup) FPS issues

My guess would be that the graphics card has to work harder when the refresh rate is set to 120 Hz. Two different refresh rates probably causes the GPU to work even harder, resulting in lower frame rates. Also, the secondary monitor is most likely not given priority by the system, again leading to lower frame rates.

Is there a specific reason that you need to run your primary monitor at 120 Hz? Does your frame rate on the primary monitor increase if you run it at 60 Hz? Myself, I would run the monitors at the same refresh rate to avoid potential stability problems, and situations like the one you are describing. But that's just me.

hi there,

i am trying to boot from one of my Setup Partitions. i am trying to boot from a partition containing Windows Xp 64-bit Install Files and later a partition with Windows 7 Install Files. i have deleted all the Setup Partitions except the Windows Xp one which is being a Bi*ch and won't allow me to delete it.

these are the steps i have done to try and boot

1. Created ISO Image Windows Xp and downloaded Windows 7 build 7100
2. In Disk Management Shrink 2 Volumes on main HDD with OS (Vista) 1 being Setup Files Shrink to 700MB and OS shrink too 7GB
3. Opened cmd and input diskpart, list volume, select volume y (Setup Xp), active, exit, then xcopy... Etc.

when i rebooted i would get a bootmgr missing error and thus using my Windows Vista disc to repair. i have be doing something wrong here as i am still new to this dual booting stuff.

yes, i am trying to triple boot. Vista, Xp and Windows 7. i do know to install Xp first then Windows 7 last or does it matter?

First, I'll give a little background on how I have it connected.
I followed the instructions in the EasyLink advisor, and have the modem connected to the router via Ethernet, and the computer connected to the router, also via Ethernet.
All the lights that are supposed to be on are on, and when it tries to detect the router, it says that it can't detect the router.

Any suggestions?

What OS? What's the exact error message?
What kind of internet connection? System specs?
Post ipconfig.
These routers will usually work right out of the box if you're using TCP/IP.

I have connected the cards with a crossfire bridge, and I've tried installing them one at a time. I have reinstalled catalyst multiple times and have gone back to older versions. However no matter what I've tried I just can't seem to get the crossfire tab to appear in catalyst.

Here are my specs:

OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1, 64 bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 42 Stepping 7
Processor Count: 4
RAM: 8173 Mb
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series, 1024 Mb (two of them)
Hard Drives: C: Total - 61054 MB, Free - 8361 MB; E: Total - 1907625 MB, Free - 1662166 MB; G: Total - 1430795 MB, Free - 687286 MB;
Motherboard: ASUSTeK Computer INC., P8P67 LE
Antivirus: Microsoft Security Essentials, Updated and Enabled

PSU is 850 watts.

If you can think of any odd or not so odd things (but don't tell me to stand on my head) that I might have missed or could try in order to make crossfire work I would greatly appreciate it.

This is the first time I've built a computer, and though it's been running fine for half a year now I only just realized I needed the bridge about a week ago and today is the day that I tried to get it working.

Also the bridge and the cards are all from XFX if that makes any difference.

Thank you!

Just picked up a Speedstream 2604 router for my XP box, and simply can NOT get it to work.

I go through the setup wizard (I can see the router), and eventually, it gives me a screen that says to enter my hostname and domain name, and if I don't have that info, just use the defaults. Unfortunately, I have NO IDEA what the defaults are! I'm using Road Runner, so I tried everything after the @ in my email (namely, woh.rr.com), to no avail. The Internet connection test just keeps going and going.

Anyone have any ideas?

First of all, I just wanted to say thank you for any time you spend with this issue. I appreciate that there is at least a place to go when the manufacturers support system will not recognize the existence of the owner of their product.

The issue:

I have a SMC Barricade WBR14s-N2 router. I am having trouble setting the router up with WPA-PSK encryption. Actually, my problem is that it kicks me off the connection whenever I try to save changes in the set up wizard. Since it kicks me off, I don't believe any settings are being saved properly. In addition, when I have tried to save the changes, the WLAN disappears on the router and I have to use the reset button to "bring it back to life." Very frustrating.

I have an older laptop (Dell Inspiron 2650) with a Linksys Wireless Notebook adaptor, for which I just downloaded the driver for. According to my research, it supports WPA encryption. I am running Windows XP and have downloaded the hotfix driver that enables WPA and WPA2.

I must say that I have successfully configured the router as an unsecured network, but I have been unsuccessful at trying to establish a secured network.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi mate

First of all it?s not necessary to go bananas here in the forum.
If you want to discuss about some issues then you can do this but in the adequate way?

Back to your issue;

> After about uhm 20 restars i got fed up and used crtl-alt del that halted the process for awhile...
Yes, the Toshiba notebook are preinstalled with an Toshiba image and the setup could takes a little bit longer and needs some reboots.

> 1: It cant connect to wireless internett it dosent even atempt to search for it.
Maybe you should firstly check the BIOS if the WLan is enabled.
Then check Fn + F8 which should enable the WLan in Windows OS!
WLan driver update might be helpful too.

> 2: The "whole setting up for first time usage" (including the constant rebots loop) starts up EVERY time i turn the pc on. (Even after i KILLED all toshiba related softweare on the pc.)
As I said above, the configuration might take some time but after the setup process everything should work as well? if this is not the case, then you should try to reinstall this unit again? try the HDD recovery which does not need any CD.
Power up the unit, press F8 and choose repair my computer. Then choose Toshiba HDD recovery !

Good luck & you are always welcome here in the forum...

My objective is to share a Canon MP780 printer attached to a Vista64 bit machine. The wireless computers I want to share with this are a Vista32 and an XP machine. So, in total there are three computers on this network.

The V64 machine is hard connected to a D-Link Router, the other two are connected wirelessly.

1) During my attempt to share the XP to the V64 machine, I found some guidance on the web that said the V64 driver for this printer did not have an essential *.INF file, so it advised installing the XP64 version of the driver on the V64 machine - this worked.

2) The issue came in when I went to connect the Vista32 machine to the Vista64 machine:

a) First try: I used the wizard, the network printer was found, but it could not find the *.INF file. I tried numerous times trying to supply the file, I even tried to load the drivers on the V32 machine (nonsensically).
No attempts worked.

b) On the second try I tried installing this printer via the "local printer" trick (see on these forums) by adding a local port and specifying the computer name and printer. When I did this, I got "Access Denied". I know that I have sharing turned on for the V64 machine so I don't know why I'm seeing this issue.

Also, I am wondering if installing the XP64 drivers in the first place is the problem for the V32 machine.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I can't say that I have ever seen anyone reliably share a printer on a 64bit version of Windows to 32bit versions of Windows.

This sounds like the correct way to do it though. Doesn't matter what model printer you are using.

New Hard Drive Setup Issues

My hard drive crashed and so I got a replacement.

I set the BIOS settings to [AUTO] but I wonder if that was the smartest thing to do.

The size that it displayed seemed to be a little low. I am wondering if maybe I should have done something other than set the BIOS to automatic determine the settings for the new hard drive.

I suspect I did something wrong because when I have tried to install the Ubuntu Operating System it is stuck on 36 % when formating and/or configuring the hard drive.

How do I go about making the BIOS hard drive settings by hand?

The modem is turned on and when the router is disconnected, everything works properly. Is something wrong with the router? Is the network connection bad? If you have any suggestions please let me know because right now i'm out of ideas.

A:Linksys wired router setup issues

I purchased a Linksys RT41-BU a couple of months ago and kept having disconnection problems with it a few days after installing it, so I replaced it with a Linksys BEFSR41, which has been working fine ever since.

I don't think that's your problem, but I wanted to make you aware of it, just in case.

Make sure that you're installing and connecting everything in the proper order.

1. Make sure the modem and the router are both unplugged and the computer is turned off.

2. Connect the modem to the router's "Internet" port with a CAT5 cable.

3. Connect the computer's network port to one of the router's numbered port with a CAT5 cable.

4. Plug in the modem and give it 2 minutes for the lights to sync.

5. Plug in the router and give it 2 minutes for the lights to sync.
(The leftmost light as you look at the front of the router should stop blinking)

6. Turn on the computer and allow the desktop to fully load. A balloon message may appear in the lower right and tell you the status of the connection.

7. If your computer is not online, leave everything as it is and contact your ISP tech support so they can confirm that there's a signal and that the modem and router are talking to each other.

(Note: The software CD that comes with the router is NOT needed, so don't use it)
