hp omnibook xe3 continuous rebbot

Q: hp omnibook xe3 continuous rebbot

a friend gave me his laptop. when i start it the hp invent logo comes up and then it goes to the screen where you can start it in safe mode, normal....etc. i have tried all these options and have even hit f10 and tried all those options. i have also tried booting with the xp disc and that does not work either, just seems like it is not even reading the disc. nothing is working. is the computer shot or is it fixable.

Preferred Solution: hp omnibook xe3 continuous rebbot

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

system will not boot up after turning on, goes to blue HP screen with three choices, esc (escape), enter setup, and system recovery. escape and system setup will continue on to next screen but does not fix the issue. eventually a black screen appears with white writing stating that a hardware or software issue has cause a shutdown and that this was done to protect your files it goes on to give you four choices to boot the system. safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode ????? and open windows normally. after choosing any of the options, the windows XP screen pops up for 5-7 seconds as if it is rebooting and then the process starts over.

A:rebbot issue

Have you recently installed any software? If you have then your Anti-Virus software might have a conflict especially if you have Norton, McAfee and TalkTalk Security center.

If you can boot into safemode remove any new software and anything that might have effected it.

My laptop (Hp Pavilion dv5- 1015 tx) has preinstalled vista with sata harddisk. I want to install xp to an external USB Harddisk, which is IDE. So I slipstreamed xp adding also the sata driver. I can boot it with xp boot cd. It copies the files for installation to the external harddisk. but on reboot i get error message because it does not detect the harddisk. Installation stops automatically, saying to prevent damage to the computer. I tried sever times. The same thing happens always. Kindly help me.

A:Not detecting IDE usb harddisk on rebbot

XP is not meant to be installed on USB drives. There's a moment during startup when the usb controller is reinitialized, this is what's preventing the installation to continue.

Here's a workaround that involves editing usbstor.inf and other system files on the XP CD : http://www.ngine.de/index.jsp?pageid=4176. Can't tell you if it'll work as I've never tried it.

Hi all.

I have searched on here re this problem but all the threads I have seen talk about a drive going offline which isn't the case here.

Firstly its not my machine, I'm helping an old friend so there may bee delays on certain questions.

He has a DELL XPS machine, an i7 newer model running 8.1, he's got a main internal HD as C: and a permanently added USB drive with 3 partitions ad D: E: and F: but on reboot the F: partition suddenly goes up a letter to G:, the other two stay the same.

Apparently its been fine until recently when this started happening, I made sure the used Disk Management to change the letter back but on reboot its back to G:

He has no other devices attached and any other USB drives either have a selected letter near the end of the alphabet or are not assigned a set letter but none are attached when the machine boots. It sounds like the F: is being reserved by something, possibly registry wise but I don't have the machine in front of me to check and I would rather its me using regedit and he's got slippery fingers due to arthritis and is prone to over clicking and wrong key presses.

Any suggestions as to where to check or what to check, I've done as much as I can via Skype but at a loss as to why its only doing it to one partition and always the same one, also did a dischk and the partiton is ok.

Any idea's wise folks?

A:Windows 8.1 changes a certain partition letter on rebbot.

Seems he was using some sort of safe eject USB software where you could reserve a drive letter?

Seems ok now...So far..

I am experiencing the most annoying issue with my Machine.

Even after a clean install.

From a cold boot, I power my machine up.

From the moment the OS loads and I can see the desktop, within 1 - 2 minutes my screen goes black. The numlock on the keyboard freezes and I cannot recover the machine. I hold the power button down for a few seconds and machine powers down.

I then power up the machine and it works fine till a shutdown at night and try reboot it the next day.

And this happens every time I boot the machine after it was off for the night.

I have checked the event log and all I see is that the machine did not shutdown properly.

If I look at the LED on the MB it goes through a bunch of post codes, when I am at the desktop it stays on code 13.

After it crashes and I reboot, once at the desktop the LED stays on code 16, and will work fine till I shutdown.

Where can I start to try resolve this?

Go into the bios and set the vdimm to 2.1v for the memory voltage. Also set the timings manually at 5-5-5-15(CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS)

Let us know how it goes.

If it still continues to exhibit the problem, go to C:\Windows\Minidump and copy the files in there to any other folder. Rar or zip them and attach the compressed file to a new post using the paperclip above where you type.

I would like confirm the following with you before troubleshooting, these information would useful to help us to narrow down the root cause of this problem.

When did the problem occured?

Did you install any third-party software recently?

Have you scan the virus on your computer?

Since you can start Windows Firewall service manually, we can judge that the service is properly and wasn’t disabled. I suggest that you may perform a Clean
Boot to ensure whether is problem is caused by a third-party software.

Note: Clean Boot is a step of troubleshooting, we can go back to normal by running MSCONIFG.

If the issue persists, I recommend that you may enable the Service Audit, then check the log.

Please take the following steps to enable Audit Policy:

Click Start button, type gpedit.msc in Search Bar. Press Enter.

Move to Local Computer Policy-> Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Policies ->Audit Policy.

Hey Everybody.

I have an HP OMNIBOOK 4150B. I installed Win XP pro and it ran great. Fixed a bunch of things actually. I lost some minor functionality but that wasn't a big deal. The problem was that when I booted up the computer without it being plugged in(AC), it would freeze up after 30 seconds or so. So basically my laptop became a very portable desktop.

I reinstalled the recovery CD (win 98) and it solved the problem. However, I would really like to run XP with my OMNIBOOK....there must be a way to do it.

I was just wondering if anyone else was experiencing this problem or if anyone knew how to fix it.

Anyone know where to get all the drivers?

I have a HP omnibook Xe2 laptop, yes it is old but it still has some kick to it. I originally replaced the fan because it became too noisy and made a pulsating sound after the laptop had been on enough time for the fan to kick on for a cooling cycle. I now have replaced the fan 3 times. In the beginning, the replacement fans work great, then they begin to make the same pulsating loud vibrating noise. The power cord of the fan is not a variable, it is out of the way. Any help would be great...

I had thought that maybe there is an electrical/power problem with the cord supplying the fan with power. Maybe there is too much power being sent to the fan and is frying the fan making it sound all loud and pulsate. But who knows...

I have an HP OmniBook XE3 that has a BIOS password issue.

Does anyone know how to reset the bios password for an HP OmniBook Laptop? I have tried to enter a few of the “backdoor” password for the Phoenix BIOS. I have not found any useful information on what I can do to fix this issue and that is why I came here.

Anyone have any ideas?

I have a Pavilion laptop that was sent in to HP to replace the motherboard. Now the Pavilion thinks it is an Omnibook, so the original Application & Recovery CD's will not work.

Has anyone experienced this?
Is there a way to force the computer to accept the original software? Or do I now need Ominbook sotware & how do I know for which model?

BTW, HP would not make good on it, even though they admitted they installed the wrong motherboard while the laptop was still under warranty. Their reply was that "it happens" and then they wouldn't discuss it any further.

I also have always had a problem with this laptop. When I boot it up, the screen will blank out every few minutes. I use the function key & F12 to switch it from the LCD to an external monitor & back again. That brings my screen back up, but it sometimes happens every few seconds and is a real PITA. Does anyone have an idea on the cause of this problem?

Thanks for any help you can provide!

The following concerns an HP Omnibook XE3 GF Notebook, running Windows
XP Pro.

Occasionally the screen blanks (completely black) as though the
machine were in standby mode. This may happen soon after booting or
after several hour's use. It may happen more than once on one day, or
maybe it doesn't happen for a couple of weeks.

After power-switch off, or hardware-reset, to shut down the machine,
the standby button re-boots it, but the display is _not_ restored.

However, the display _can_ be restored by: power-switch off, unplug
the power cord, remove the battery, wait a couple of minutes, replace
battery and power cord, press standby button to re-boot.

Having removed/replaced the battery, following a screen blank, Windows
insists on performing a consistency check on the FAT32 hard drive, at
next boot. The last time this happened two errors were found:

Windows will now check the disk.
Volume Serial Number is 2C77-3ED5

not valid. The entry will be truncated.
Convert lost chains to files (Y/N)? Yes
336 KB in 2 recovered files.
Windows has made corrections to the file system.

If the screen did not blank, removing/replacing the battery doesn't
cause Windows to perform the hard drive check, at next boot.

I should be grateful for advice as to

My laptop

About a month ago I got my first laptop. It is an HP OmniBook 4150 (128 MB of RAM, 300 MHz, 6 gig hard drive). It's by far not the most powerful or recent laptop available <grin> but it gets the job done. It's run Windows NT 4.0 (Workstation), Windows 2000, Windows ME, and Windows XP all on it successfully without any problems. Last night I formatted and did a fresh install of Windows XP Home Edition (I have Pro also but chose to use Home on it). In the past I had WinXP Pro on it and it worked fine also. I recently used the laptop to do my Windows 9x/ME Tweak Guide ( http://members.fortunecity.com/computingx ). Windows XP Home Edition is on it now as I said, and running quite well. It is slightly sluggish at times, but not that bad. It runs very stable and reliably. I am impressed despite the slight performance barriers, but it isn't bothersome. It runs everything I throw at it just fine, even some games I've tried. It's really nice to be able to have the portability if I want/need it. And besides, laptops are just sexy, somehow. :grinthumb

A:My Laptop (HP OmniBook 4150)

If you want to get rid of that sluggishness that you speak of, put another 128mb of memory in it. WinXP requires 128mb and recommends 256mb. That will help out alot.

Welcome to the Forum.

This would be worth $10:

and this might work out for free:

I've had my HP ZT1170 apart a couple of times. Apparently for the same reason as you...broken power plug.

The first time it was split and loose from the board but still intact electrically. I repaired it with JB Weld epoxy.

The next time the solder joint broke. I repaired it with a needle point low wattage iron. I would call it a poor design for a potentially stressed connection...I use it on my Lap not on a desk.

Each time it was like the first...where is that hidden screw? Their engineers have a warped sense of humor.

Also, I noted that the machine was available used for about $700. The MOBO replacement part is $470. Capitalism Lives!!!

It's a p2 266 mhz, 256 mb sdram, I don't know the mb specs, anyway it was running win xp fine and then one day it just booted to advanced startup options and hangs there, never responding to any of the options. Since he didn't have much on his hd I decided to do a clean install from the cdrom but after setup copies the files and restarts to begin the installation and right where it says "starting windows" it just hangs there without continuing the installation. I rewrote the mbr and bootsector from recovery console but still nothing. I also reformatted and tried win2000 pro but same thing happens. I noticed the bootup password in the bios is set to enabled but I'm not allowed the option of changing it. Not sure if that has anything to do with the startup problems. Thanks for any help.

Hello everyone!I got this oldie HP OMNIBOOK 6000 from the friend of mine, yet I got 2.5 inch IDE notebook drive in addition. Now I want to replace FDD in 6000's module bay with F2018B caddy  module (http://www.hp.com/ecomcat/hpcatalog/specs/F2018B.htm) to insert that 2.5 inch HDD as 2nd drive. Please tell me where I can get F2018B caddy itself (w/o HDD inside, of course) - and buy it ?Only caddy is needed (IDE port inside, not SATA), again. Thanks in advance!

I tried swapping in a known-good mouse and this failed to resolve the problem. I entered BIOS setup and ensured that both the touchpad and PS2 mouse were configured to work. I uninstalled the mouse drivers and rebooted so Windows2000 would detect and install the mouse. After Windows had installed the Mouse it functioned fine however when logged out and then back in the mouse failed to work again. I flashed the BIOS on the laptop with the latest version (downloaded from HPs Omnibook support site). I installed Windows 2000 SP2. I then removed the mouse drivers again and rebooted. As of this time the issue remains unresolved. The PS2 mouse will not function. The laptop is otherwise funtional, however, and the user can navigate using the touchpad, keyboard, and pointing stick. Incidentally....Event viewer shows no errors....

Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Are you using a Synaptec's (sp?) Touchpad (which my lappy has)? If so, you should be able to go into control panel - mouse, and there should be some settings (over and above the default windows mouse settings if you have the synaptec drivers) to have the ps2 mouse enabled as well as the touchpad. You may also want to check out device manager and ensure that there's no conflicts between user input devices.

If you aren't using a Synaptec touchpad.. then ugh.. you may need to contact your laptop manufacturer for assistance.
