"Waiting for" connectivity issue

Q: "Waiting for" connectivity issue

In both IE and Chrome, i can't connect to any websites.  Just get a "Waiting For" forever.  I pinged google.com from command prompt and got response on all four hits.  Other devices on same wireless work just fine, and this says its connected without issues (via "troubleshooter")

Any ideas of what could the issue?

Preferred Solution: "Waiting for" connectivity issue

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Does anyone have information on when a security update will be available for the issue?
On 10/18/17 MS Article Stated: "Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release of the security patch. This is expected to be available in another 2-3 weeks or earlier."

For Issue:
JET provider is no longer able to connect after the October update. This update (released October 10th, 2017) includes a security update release that inadvertently affects the JET provider. The update was kb4041678 and included in
the patch kb4041681.  These patches affected the Operating System, which adversely has an issue with the following technologies: Microsoft Windows Search Component, Windows kernel-mode drivers, Microsoft Graphics Component, Internet Explorer, Windows
kernel, Windows Wireless Networking, Microsoft JET Database Engine, and the Windows SMB Server. It is important to note that the changes were not to these technologies themselves.

Howdy amazingly smart people of this forum!!! I have an issue or maybe I'm just impatient... Whats goin on is I just reinstalled this operating system on a Compaq SR2030NX and everything seemed to be just fine... I downloaded drivers from the hp/compaq website and got them installed and well....... it works!!!! The problem is, upon reboot I get a dashed bar from the bottem left side of the screen to the right and as the CPU loads the dashed line fills in ... like its loading something and after about 10 min or so (sometimes longer) it will finally boot up the OS... (OS = Windows XP Media Center Edition)

I just rebooted and waited for the white dotted/dashed line to finish and i turned away ... looked back and now i have 2 lines of text and the cpu seems to be frozen the lines say ... well a 3rd line showed up... its like it's trying to boot in safemode but ... its not I really have no idea what the deal is... anyone got a suggestion or an answer? thank you guys!!! If you need more information let me know!

--I did ctrl+alt+del and tried to boot into safemode... and its the same lines... I don't know why it tried to boot into safemode earlier but now I'm thinking a hardware issue but still... if anyone has seen or heard of this issue ... enlighten me please!! TANKIES!

Running a PC with WinXP sp2, recently after I ran Malwarebytes and removed a few spyware, IE7 started this issue...IE7 issue (Website found, waiting for reply...) and it just stays that way forever. PC is connected to the internet, AVG, and windows update show trying to auto update and shows 0%, they never get the updates, and I never get a message about Page cannot be displayed. I have since ran more AV and anti spyware software, SFC has ran, LSP Fix, WURT, ran HiJack This to check for any problems, ran MS Regclean, Winsock Fix, Windows Security Center Fixes, reinstalled the NIC driver, and removed McAfee security Center and turned off the Windows Firewall. All have proved to do nothing. Except for this issue the PC is working perfectly.
I want to also add, I just took a look at Windows Task MAnager, and see a System Idle Process showing CPU @ 99, but at the bottom shows CPU Usage @ 0%.

I appreciate any help you guys could give me. I feel helpless, until this I thought I was a hell of a PC Tech. LOL

A:IE7 issue (Website found, waiting for reply...)

Expanding upon the original post....

I have now tried IE7 while in safe mode w/networking, and Hmmm, it goes online. No problems. Switch back to Normal Mode and IE still does not load the website.
I have even Re-Installed IE7, with no luck.
I have also run the IE7 Run Once Fix, with no luck. I ran this because I noticed, in the address bar, its always been trying to call up a go.microsoft.com/xxxx/KB=xxxxxx link instead of the set homepage link. As if it were trying to bring up the First Run IE7 thinga-ma-jig.

Thanks for any help, bout to pull out what little hair I have left. Or do a complete system reload.

For those who don't know, this is Yahoo's image and media server. On Firefox 22 and Opera 15, it will absolutely refuse to connect and if that happens, no Yahoo page can be reached. On Firefox, I tried disabling AdBlock Plus and HTTPS Everywhere, clearing cookies and cache and even reverting to the default profile with no extensions. I even disconnected and reconnected from the Net. Still no joy.

If I load it in Internet Explorer or on my Droid 4, it comes up right away. If I ping it from the command prompt, it responds promptly.

What is it about Firefox and this Yahoo server?

I'm not the only one who has had this problem. A Google search for l.yimg reveals posts about this problem dating back to 09 and covering a wide range of connections and computing platforms. It mentioned a possible solution of setting the MTU to under 1500 as a remedy.

Is Yahoo simply too negligent and inept to maintain their server or is there something more complex happening?

Thank you.

Using different computer to post here, now.On the problem computer, instead of re-directing to another site, both Firefox and IE just wait, wait, wait. Never connects. Also, cannot contact MB update server, via Malwarebytes Program. What I have done so far;Scanned with MB at first showed nothing. Switched to safe mode and re-scanned. Found Browser Hijack and cleaned. Still had problem, though. Re-scanned with MB and AVG and both found nothing.Took drive out, and scanned with another computer, using today's MB dat file. Found Trojan: Fraud. Cleaned. Re-installed drive into laptop, and dang, same problem. Re-scanned with Malwarebytes, Vipre, Spybot, MS malicious tool, AVG. No Malware found. At wit's end! Opps, maybe not so unique since I just noticed an ENTIRE forum for browsers...perhaps moving this is appropriate...if so, please do. I will be reading up in there.

Its interesting because I can't find any mention of it anywhere on this site. Specifically browser connectivity is lost after a little while (guessing 7 minutes, though it may be a number of browser pages displayed trigger i went 3 hrs today) after I start browsing. If I don't start a browser, the death clock doesn't begin until I start browsing. Now, at the same time, all shares, the other machines on the network, work fine. Also if I am playing an online game, I will not have any issues. Just IE and firefox can't display pages and other programs (like updates of AVG) are soon to follow.

***Important to note this is new, the network was fine for over a week before this started a couple days ago.

I notice, when it works, net info states Homegroup - ready to connect (I am using a workgroup to connect to other machines) but last night, during a browser outage it said it was connected. I notice now it calls my workgroup a homegroup (I think is used to say workgroup)

(This problem may have started around when I tried to synchronise a folder to "always available offline", but there are other things that were done in that period of time unfortuately, all have since been undone.

Hello once again TSF! I have been helped a lot by you guys before! Lets see if you can help me again! :)

So, I hardly reboot/shutdown my computer, but i recently cleaned it up and removed some apps i no longer use. All went well.

However, when i went to restart my computer (to finalize uninstall) it got hung up on the "Windows is waiting for programs to close" and what do ya know the list was empty

So I sat and waited about 20 minutes, then i noticed i couldnt click anything and nothing responded but the mouse moving and the power button. HDD light was out too

So i held power button to force shut down, worked. Started up and asked if i wanted to boot to safe mode etc. I selected boot normally. It booted up just fine everything is still working but i can't shut down or restart AT ALL.

I even tried the command in CMD to see if i could get it to shutdown that way using

shutdown /f

and the same thing happened, it appeared to be shutting down then just hang there, ( no waiting dialog as /f does not show that ) So i waited ten minutes, still no reboot.

I am at a loss, and Google is really not helping any either.

I need the TSF geniuses :)

Thanks guys for your time!

Good morning everyone,

slowly but steadily I am nearing the edge of sanity. I am not overly technically gifted and, to my dismay, certain members of the WoTC support staff aren't, either. I'm not sure I actually expect a solution as much as I hope for an explanation of an issue that's presented itself to me.

The issue is as follows: One particular application (namely Magic the Gathering Arena (yes, I am aware that there's a game subforum, but this really is a networking issue - promise!)) refuses to stay connected to the host for any amount of time. In these trying times (being a teacher and confined to my home desk due to Corona) I spend way too much time on online games, none of which are giving me any sort of grief. I'm on a gigabit fiber connection that's, similarly, never acted up on me before. But for some reason I have not been able to maintain a connection to the MtGA host for longer than about 2 minutes in the past 3 days (never had an issue with the game before). I contacted their support who, as they usually do, presented me with a list of off-the-shelf solutions. Suffice it to say, none of them worked, except for the last one.

A VPN. I'm in Germany and the CSR suggested I try a US-based VPN and this fixed it. I don't plan on making use of a VPN as a long-term solution, but at least I get to scratch the itch in the meantime, right? Well, I wrote back to the support who said, and I quote:

Hello all,

I am new here but hoping still that someone might have the answer to an ongoing issue within our network.

I am dealing with a large network (large in the physical size not necessarily how many PCs connected). There are 4 different buildings that connect with a fiber optical connection. Each building has it's own internet source. I deal with two of these buildings. The connection runs underground. When I link our two buildings, the networked PCs communicate but the internet connection is lost.

I am not sure if the other buildings have these connection issues but I've noticed that at one end it looks like an adapter is connecting the fiber optical possible to a cat5 looking jack. Is it possible that that's the issue?

Have you heard of this before. I happens to be a POS system that we need working between the two buildings. So apart from one or two office computers on the network that needs internet we need it for processing credit cards as well.

Any help will do. Sorry if I wasn't all that specific or clear... I'm still new at this stuff.

Thanks!

how do you have everything configured?

Can you see the wireless router from your laptop?

Ideal setup is to have the "uplink" port (labeled as WAN or Internet" from your wireless router going to one of the LAN (or "Ethernet") ports on the DSL modem.

Hi,
I have just bought a new router and am trying to connect it. I did the basic set up with an install disc to the problem is that when I connect to the Wireless network it only gives me limited access to the internet for instance I am able to use Skype and other applications that rely on internet connection, but when it comes to web browsers (both Mozilla & Safari) it shows the url section loading but only ever makes it mid way (the page always stays blank) . I also have access to the router settings using 192.168.2.1 I cloned my MAC address on the router settings as that was prior advice.

If anyone could help it would be amazing..

Hi,
I am currently trouble shooting a network problem for a medium size company, aprox 250 users. The issue is as follows:
A connectivity problem occurs on random clients which leaves them with an ip address received from DHCP server but the client only has connectivity with its own vlan. (DHCP server on different VLAN) The switch has ip helper set up so the communication to get an ip address is being done via the switch and on to the DHCP server.(The primary function of IP helper) The client can't ping anything outside its own VLAN.
Our only work around is to assign a static DHCP ip address on the DHCP server using the MAC address of the client. Issue an ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew on the affected client to get the assigned static DHCP address and full connectivity is restored.
There is a mix of Cisco and 3com switches, mostly Cisco with a Cisco 3750 multi layer switch at the heart of the network.
I have analysed the configuration of the devices and everything looks good.
I know its hard to diagnose from this brief description but any similar problems experienced and solutions discovered are appreciated.
Thanks

Hope someone out there has come across this... Bellsouth (DSL) using a Westel Modem directly connected to the Computer (ethernet), no switch, hubs, etc.... All connected to a UPS which I turn off nightly. When you first turn it all on, cannot connect to Internet, E-mail, etc... The DSL Modem shows steady power light, steady sync light and ethernet light flickers as it is working, but nada... disabled Firewall (Zone alarm) but nothing. Cannot ping or get to the outside. Most of the time, after a reboot it will then work as it should. No viruses on the computer, all updates are done (Windows 2000 Pro, SP4, IE6 with all updates, etc). It is becoming frustrating to say the least, and takes nearly as long as my dial up connection did just to get online... I contacted Bellsouth who tries to claim it is a hardware issue which I do not agree with... I changed the DSL modem to it is always on, independent of the computer and that didnot help... Next I am going to try a different Ethernet card... All dsl modem updates are done as well... Has anyone else had this problem? Please advise.. thanks

I've recently (in the past few weeks) been having trouble with Internet Explorer, version 7.0.5730.11. When I first open the program, the page is blank, and the status bar (bottom of the IE window) briefly flashes "Detecting proxy settings" and then sits at "Connecting to site 74.125.93.104" for several minutes before displaying the typical "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" screen.

In dealing with the problem, I've found that whenever I get the "Connecting to site" message in the status bar, I immediately close IE, then reopen it. Sometimes the first time I do this results in Google (homepage) loading, but most of the time I must repeat this proces several times (up to about 10) before IE loads Google.

When already working properly, I've noticed that IE has no problems opening links in new windows or tabs. Does anyone have an idea of what could be causing this problem?

Relevant Information:

Windows XP Service Pack 3
IE version 7.0.5730.11

Please let me know if additional information is required, and I will do my best to provide it. Thanks for reading.

I don't know if this is connected to the problem but when I boot up the computer I get a message stating that Rundll C:\PROGRAM~1\NEWDOT~\NEWDOT~1.DLL is missing or cannot be loaded has that caused the problem?
Thanks in anticipation.

A:No connectivity issue

You have spyware

NEWDOT is spyware that hijacks your web browser and host file. You need to remove it. First you need to remove this key from the registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\run\new.net startup
After you have deleted this key you need to reboot your system. Then run msconfig and go to startup and stop these process
(may or may not exist):
ndnuninstall4_50.exe
ndnuninstall5_20.exe
ndnuninstall5_40.exe
ndnuninstall5_48.exe
uninstall3_88.exe
uninstall4_50.exe
uninstall4_80.exe
uninstall5_48.exe
uninstall5_20.exe
wcmdmgr.exe
Then you will need to do a file search for newdot(here is an example list)
newdot~1.dll
newdot~2.dll
newdotnet3_36.dll
newdotnet3_70.dll
newdotnet3_88.dll
newdotnet4_50.dll
newdotnet4_85.dll
newdotnet4_88.dll
newdotnet5_20.dll
newdotnet5_48.dll
newdotnet6_22.dll
newdotnet6_30.dll
newdotnet6_38.dll
You will have to unregister each of then and then delete them. If you don't know how go to this site http://articles.networktechs.com/111-p1.php
Then remove the folder %program_files%\newdotnet
And to finish it up run a regcleaner if you don't have one here is a link to one

Hope this helps.

Hey all,

I'm finally posting here after having read around on the site before and gotten good info.

I set up a wireless home network between two computers (a laptop and a tablet) a few months ago. The laptop is the "base" computer and the table has a wireless receiver; the router is a DLink 524.

I never had any connectivity issues (internet) until last week on the laptop when my free version of Zonealarm started acting screwy and not displaying any info when I would open the program up. I updated the version, and since then cannot use the internet while Zonealarm is running. I'm confused, though, because the tablet has Zonealarm and has no problems accessing the internet at all. DLink tech support tells me that the problem is in the configuration of Zonealarm, and that I should contact them, but I'm running the freebie version and so don't anticipate getting much help there.

Is this an issue of ports (opening/forwarding)? If so, I have no experience in that and would appreciate if someone could take a second to let me know what they think should be done. I'm willing to just scrap Zonealarm and try something that works better with the router if need be, but I'm willing to bet someone who knows what they're doing could fix this easily, and that the problem is with me.

Thanks so much,

Jason

I'm not sure if this is the problem but I do know that I've seen such as problem in DLink routers before because some models now have a feature(some added with firmware update) which will allow you to configure the router with ZA so they don't interfere with eachother, it aslo has a feature which will let you block computers not running ZA so that you don't have unprotected machines on the network. While this is a good idea in theory, it also causes problems for people who don't know it is there.

BTW, the setup you mention where one laptop is "base" as you call it, is incorrect. When using a router to share your internet, the router itself is the server and all computers are the clients. This misconception causes a lot of confusion and sometimes makes it difficult to diagnose a problem when you call one machine a "base" or "server" when it is not.

My laptop which i have recently installed a fresh xp copy on, is having internet connectivity issues. there is only 1 driver that works for the wireless lan and 1 driver for the wire lan that but that wont work for some reason but im not concerned as long as the wifi works on it. the issue is that every 2-5 mins the wireless disconnects, and reconnects taking anywhere from 1 min - several mins to aquire ip address. i could understand if it was clear across my home away from the wireless router, but its stationed right next to the router, so there should be no interferrance problems. i use halfdone's unknown devices driver informer and that tells me that the proper drivers are all installed on my laptop and that i dont need anything else. device manager confirms. i dont understand why my wired internet wont work if it has the proper drivers, and i dont understand why the wifi cuts out like it does. would you assume that its the router ( though its brand new and doesnt cut on my other wifi systems ) or the computer?

Hi,

I am working on a clients machine:

Lenovo X230 ThinkPad Laptop Tablet
Windows 7 Professional x64 w/ SP1

Connected to a network domain (able to browse network folders/files/other machines) Both wireless & wired.

Issue:

Cannot connect to any websites using Internet Explorer. Pages come up 'unable to load' ... Google search works up until the search results display...clicking on a result doesn't produce anything. Also able to get to Yahoo but clicking on any links also produces nothing. All other URLs 'unable to load and show up with a %20 before the url (ie. %20msn.com) Both wireless & wired.

Tried Firefox & Google Chrome with same results.

All browsers function properly in SafeMode.

Ran multiple scans (MalwareBytes, Spybot S&D, Super Antispyware, CCleaner, Glary Registry Cleaner etc). Returned very little results and cleaned. Repeated until 0 results displayed. Rebooted with same negative results connecting to internet.

Machine is picking up a network IP address and able to connect to network. Also, the network icon in the taskbar will sometimes have an exclamation mark
and sometimes not, with same results either way.

Configured msconfig for selective startup with only MS services enabled. Rebooted and seems to work fine. However on numerous reboots the exclamation mark seems to come and go whenever it pleases. Mostly it remains present. But still connects to internet.

Would like to figure out what is causing the issue wi... Read more

Hello Community.  I am truly hoping you can help me as I know the call in support can't. In December I bought a Y-50, 16gb, i7-4710, 8.1, 64 bit, GTX860M, 512SSD, no hard disk.  I use a FIOS 50up/50down connection. I have wanted to post many times about just how awesome this computer is.  It runs ridiculously quick compared to what I'm use to. I start quickbooks and it literally just starts... no waiting for 1 min.  Heck, I boot the computer and I can be online in 15 seconds.  Games are crazy fast too...  Technology rocks. Symptoms: Anyway, I'm having a frustrating issue.  My internet connection "seems" to stop while I'm surfing the web occasionaly and it's typically when no one else is home with me and no devices other than my laptop are online.  Chrome or IE will not connect to anything and even my scanner software reports that it's no longer connected.  The other crazy thing is the wireless bars remain high and the wireless never says it's disconnected. It happened once two weeks ago.  And for the past 3 days has been happening at least 2x per day.  The only way to fix this is to restart the computer--which is just not practical as I have to save everything and reopen etc... I've installed no out of the ordinary programs: Office, Quickbooks, Guild Wars 2, Google DriveI've not let windows update any drivers--only updates and drivers are not allowed to be installed through update. I imm... Does your Ethernet port work or does it present the same issue? It could be your network messing up your IP on the router or something. Excluding that, have you checked the physical connection between the WLAN card and the computer, and also the antennas' connection to the card?

My pc has a built in ethernet port and a wireless card installed. I just moved, and before then I didnt have any issues. After the move, I didnt have internet yet, but was able to connect to some wireless networks to get online. Now that I have internet, I tried connecting to the ethernet port. I'm getting the limited connectivity message. I get it directly connected to the modem, or connected to a hub, the second pc is surfing fine. I tried different cat5 cables, I uninstalled and reinstalled the NIC drivers, rebooted in safe mode with networking, reinstalled winsock, ran LSP fix(didnt find any issue), the internet protocols are set to auto, I uninstalled my firewall and antivirus, ran Spybot S&D and Spysweeper. Nothing I've tried has fixed the issue. I can still surf wirelessly, but not with the ethernet port.

The title must seem very vague, and sorry if it is.

I have been trying to troubleshoot this all week. When I had initially installed Windows 7 everything went fine with no problems. On the get go, a generic Broadcom driver was installed on my wlan nic, considering the chipset. But this worked fine, through my wrt150n router I was getting at least 20mbps on multiple speed tests.

Also, generic drivers for sound were installed (crackle pop). I fixed that by installing the official vista drivers from creative. That worked excellent, but there were many features missing, such as the ability to switch my flexijack from line-in to mic.

I installed a driver from the creative forums by daniel_k, and every feature on my sound card magically worked. However, my internet connection completely broke. And by broke, I mean mysteriously vanished. My NIC would still see and connect to my wireless LAN, and the network and sharing center was reporting local and internet. But nothing on firefox, IE8, or even AIM/MSN.

Logically, I disabled the windows firewall first for both public and private networks. No luck. Restarted, and still no luck. I uninstalled my NOD32 antivirus, restarted, and still no luck. I reinstalled the broadcom driver for my wlan NIC, and no luck. I installed the linksys-branded drivers for my NIC, and still nothing. Keep in mind that I always get "local and internet" on my wlan network in the network and sharing center. Frustrated, I slowly uninst... Read more

A:wmp300n connectivity issue

Seems like this issue may be solved. I never considered a hardware issue, as it would have seemed highly unlikely because it happened so soon after installing win7 beta.

The connection to the antenna is a bit iffy. As I run a speed test and play with the wire into the antenna, it jumps up and down. This seems to be a direct relation. I'm RMAing the NIC to linksys, and I will update everyone with the results later.

Please don't mark this as solved just yet, though.

In addition it would not allow me to access my router configuration wizard in firefox or IE. I am convinced that this issue is the result of a virus or some other malware. I am using windows xp. Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog
Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

still nothing.

all of the services are running.

COM+ Event System (for WZC issues)
Computer Browser

DNS Client
Network Connections
Network Location Awareness
Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
Server
TCP/IP Netbios helper

when i try to boot in safe mode i get a media test failure screen.

A:weird issue, no connectivity

Since you can ping Google by name, I'd be looking at firewall and/or IE configuration issues.

Disable ALL firewalls as a test, and if that doesn't do it, reset IE to defaults: Reset Internet Explorer 7 Settings

lets see an ipconfig /all from the working dell and then an ipconfig /all from the faulty pc

how are they connected to the router wireless or cable ?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste

Hi, Iíve been having some network connectivity issues, and Iím looking for some guidance on resolving them.

Iím home from college for the summer, and I connect to the internet wirelessly from my homeís basement using a Linksys wireless USB Network Adaptor, model no. WUSB54G to a Verizon DSL home wireless network (my modem is a Westell, Model 327W). However, since I got home, I have been unable to connect. I called a cousin whoís got a little more experience in this realm to see if he could fix the problem, which he did. A kink in the scenario is my cousin and my father, who is the primary account holder (more on this a little later) arenít on good terms, so whenever my cousin is around for whatever reason, thereís a problem.

My cousin spoke with Verizon, and succeeded at restoring connectivity (I donít know the exact steps he took, but he said there was some issue regarding the account passwords) however, within two days, I was once again unable to connect. Iíve spoken with Verizon tech support between 7 and 9 times over the last two weeks to solve this issue, and on the first several calls, operators succeeded in restoring connectivity; they walked me through changing some settings on the modem, but the crux of the issue was the passwords. Resetting the password (Iím not sure if it was the password for the account or the modem, and if they had to match [this is really the area where Iím stuck]) would restore connectivity. The other side of the password issue i... Read more

I am laptop ignorant. I personally prefer a desktop, but my wife desperately desired a laptop.

This expensive pain has a RJ-45 connection on the side. Under the network connections, within the LAN or Highspeed Connections, are an Ethernet Controller, Bluetooth Network and a Wireless Network Controller.

She used to have a dekstop too, so there was obviously an internal modem and a wall splitter.

We normally connect using Broadband DSL with a user name and password into the ISP. Stupid me thought this would work with the Ethernet card as an internal modem - not!

Where in the world should I go from here? Should I get an external modem? A wireless router? What?

I'm sincerely looking for advice.

Hi All

I have a Linksys Wireless ADSL Router and when I try and connect using the wireless adapter I get a message saying limited or no connectivity, however I have a different laptop which connects without any problems.

When I disable the WPA security on the router I can connect no problems...

Any advise would be helpful.

A:Wireless Connectivity Issue

Make sure you have the latest driver for the wireless adapter. Does it support WPA?

Any chance of wireless interference (e.g., 2.4Ghz cordless phone or another network on the same or close channel)? Sometimes interference has a bigger negative impact on secured networks.

Hi! I have a strange one here, I think. The internet is working fine in our house, but there is one website that cannot be accessed on any device. I am getting an "ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT" error in Chrome, and similar messages in other browsers. The website works fine if I am on 4G on my phone. I have tried resetting the modem and router, cleared my cache and cookies, and changed the DNS settings on my wireless connection to Google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4). None of this has fixed the issue. The website in question is http://www.reptilebasics.com. This started about a week or so ago - I placed an order with the company from my computer on October 12. Any ideas?

I'm on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and Internet Explorer 11 and Firefox 41. The site loaded fine for me in both browsers.

You didn't say which Windows version and browser version you're using. Have you tried a different browser?

I have Firefox 3.0.5 installed on an XP based system. It works fine when it is connected, but that is the problem. Every time I try to open it I get an error messege. It says "Proxy Server Refused Connection". I can go into tools/options/network/settings and it always shows "Manual proxy configuration". If I change it to "No proxy" or "Auto detect" and click through the OKs, it works fine, but when I close it down it reverts back to "Manual" the next time I start it up.
How do I get it to stay?

After some very il-advised tinkering with my PC, my edimax 802.11n PCI card will not connect to the internet despite detecting a strong signal. I disbled all "un-essential" PC processes to free up some power, only to realize this was crippling; I had to re-configure them all as eithe manual or automatic start up (guess work)- I have deleted nothing; I did attempt to create a new connection so it may be that I need to re-install some drivers.

It may be too vague for me to helpfully convey, but I wanted to lay down the gist of it incase a quick fix or general, glarring point strikes you that would not have struck me.

Thanks for your time.
