Upgrade Windows 10 and Acer Recovery

Q: Upgrade Windows 10 and Acer Recovery

Hello everyone, As you know, today is the last day to upgrade Windows 10 for free. I have a ES-111M notebook and I want to know if I upgrade my notebook to WIN 10, will I able to recovery with Acer Recovery Management like Windows 8.1. If I cannot, I believe I can't, what should I do with recovery partition, it is really huge for my harddisk (32 gb). If I delete it, because I cannot use anyway, will my warrenty be voided? Thanks a lot.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Upgrade Windows 10 and Acer Recovery

1) Create a recovery media, using Acer erecovery software, an USB flash driver is needed (16-32GB); so you will be always able to revert to the factory OS installation, using that USB flash drive2)then you can delete, the recovery partition (sometimes the Acer erecovery after creating the media, will ask you to delete or not the recovery partition3) in my opinion, it will be better to backup all your personal data too and do a windows 10 clean install (wiping your HDD content, so you will have the most storage available to install windows 10) http://community.acer.com/t5/Knowledge-Base/Windows-10-Installation-Recovery-Media-Creation-and-Use/... windows 10 drivers:http://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support-product/5572;-;Aspire%20ES1-111M

My system is roughly 5 months old. I had used the upgrade software that Acer provided to upgrade from Vista to 7 home premium. There was no issues with the install and everything worked great for a month and then it started going in to deep hibernation. The only way to wake it was to unplug the power from the tower. I did everything I could think of from editing the registry to updating drivers, to finally reinstalling everything. No go so I packed it up and sent it back to Acer. I just got it back from Acer's repair depot. They had to replace the motherboard, hard drive, and fans on the system. They performed a factory restore and told me that I was good to go and updating shouldn't be an issue. I went to use the upgrade dvd's from Acer and low and behold, the hibernation thing started again! It took me four attempts to restore it back to factory. Now it seems stable running Vista. I am in the process up updating the drivers and windows stuff so time will tell. Is it me or is Acer systems flakey?

Does anyone have any recommendations on how I can go about updating to Windows 7 without having to format every week? I have tried doing clean installs without going the upgrade path and it still behaves badly. Sometimes it won't even turn on. Or is it just possible that the pc I purchased just can't handle Windows 7?

A:Acer Aspire M3203 and Acer's Windows 7 upgrade software

Are you booting the Acer Win7 Upgrade Media DVD to do a clean install? You can do that to get the cleanest possible install, without the corruption that is imported from Vista in an in-place Upgrade.

The installer is driver-complete, but afterwards any missing drivers which don't quickly arrive in Optional Windows Updates can be found on the apps/drivers CD along with favorite apps like Works, cam, etc. Others can be found on the Acer Support Downloads webpage for your model computer, Adobe (flash, Reader) and Java (runtime, free Ofc suite) sites.

After I attempted a Windows 10 Upgrade to the latest version and turned off the PC the system now asks for Recovery key, which I don't have because ? never used it before.

I have also tried to unlock the drive with the manage-bde command but failed.

Stupidly I installed windows 8 preview on my acer aspire z5610 and after a few days my computer just packed it in. I am trying to recover it back to win7 (if possible) but having no success. I try booting holding down the alt and F10 keys simultaneously but without success. When I boot up it automatically goes to "preparing automatic repair" followed by diagnosing PC and then attempting repairs. It then goes to a blue screen which says "automatic repair couldn't repair your PC" and instructs me to Press "Advanced Options to repair your PC or "shut down to turn off your PC. The log file states:D:\WINDOWS\System32\Logfiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt (stuff knows what that mens. Anyway I follow all instructions and nothing seems to work. Can anyone help me PLEASE??????

Hey there guys. I have laptop Acer Aspire v15 Nitro and I did update to Windows 10 from my Windows 8.1 OS. It seems that everything works just fine for me, even drivers installed "themselves" (no need actually to download anything from web, maybe just cardreader). I got only one question as I can't find it anywhere on the net. I want to create recovery disk but what is the issue. When I start my Acer Recovery Management, I can only create recovery USB (or other media, but I don't have CD-ROM so only USB). However, in BIOS I can see that there is some option telling me, that I can do Alt+F10 to do some disc-to-disc recovery. I have never owned an Acer before so I don't know how it works. But when I press such combination in POST phase, nothing changes, computer simply continues to boot to Windows. I'd like to use such way of creating recovery partition, instead of making some recovery USB, is I have SSD+HDD combination so I have loads of free space on HDD.P.S.: Can't find answer on net, everyone just says about creating recovery mediaThanks in advance!!!

ALT+F10 is called D2D, since it will re-install windows from a recovery partition on the same HDD.you can only create a recovery media on external devices connected via USB.

Hi,

I have Vista OS loaded as the default one by Acer. I recently installed windows 7 on a formatted partition (which formerly had my data). And I believe since then I haven't been able to use the Acer D2D recovery. It should come up by pressing Alt+F4 during POST, but it doesn't. I have made sure that it is enabled in the BIOS. I went through lot of forums and they suggest it's an Acer MBR issue and that it may have been deleted or something ?? Someone suggested me to use partedit and change partition ID to 07 and then run some command like " mbrwin.exe install ^@(% ", but after doing that I couldn't load any of the OSs. I somehow was able to repair (recovered as it shows in the dual boot screen now) both of them by using windows 7 DVD (thank God). And on top of that, Acer D2D still doesn't work. Any solutions on the issue ? Thanks!

Sorry I must be dense. what is the issue? Once you went from vista to win 7 the recovery partition was for all intents and purposes dead. It can only (using a vista dvd) restore you to vista.

What was it you were trying to do?

You can of course (if you have a win 7 dvd) set up a new recovery partition that will get you back to win 7

So?

What is your complete model number?  Example of a complete model number: Acer Laptop Aspire R 14 R3-471T-76BM Edit:  To answer your question, yes I replaced the  1 TB HDD with a 250 GB SSD on an R14 and used the USB factory default recovery drive without any problems. (Although it was an R14 that came pre-installed with Windows 8.1).  However, on a different R14 that came pre-installed with Windows 10, I successfully created a USB factory default recovery drive, and then wiped the SSD drive, and then sucessfully put it back to factory condition with the USB factory default recovery drive. My only suggestion would be to..... 1. Re-install the 1 TB HDD2.  Backup your important personal files3.  Reset/restore the computer to factory condition: http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/29934/related/1/session/L2F2LzEvdGltZS8xNDY0MjEyMTg... 4.  Create USB flash drive recovery media (again)5. Remove the 1 TB HDD6. Install clean SSD(if you don't know how to have a clean SSD, then read this.)7. Insert the factory default USB recovery drive that you created in step 48. Turn on computer and reset your PC.9. That's it.

First I plan to remove the main drive which is 240GB solid state drive with Windows 64X 10 Home Premium from my desktop. My desktop is Acer Aspre M3450. Then put another 240GB solid state in and install Windows 7 from my Acer Recovery Disks which have 3 DVD's to install. My question is that should I format the new solid state drive or not necessary just put in the first Acer Recover disk to install? I already made a backup copy of Windows 10 64X Home Premium on my 64GB USB. I am planning to setup the virtual machine with both Windows 7 and Windows 10 in my desktop but not sure when I will? Oh one more thing before sending my message -- Am I suppose to restart the desktop so I can get in Display settings to pick CD/DVD to use while my first disk of Acer Recovery already is in the CD/DVD drive.

Your help would be appreciated with this about what to do to install Windows 7 on my desktop.

Thank you,

When you sign up for these computer companies to send you a copy of windows 7 when it's available does anyone know what they'll actually be sending you? Do they just send you a windows 7 installation DVD like you'd buy from newegg or do they send you their own version(like a recovery DVD) with all the bloatware?

I really just wanna do a clean install with no whistles/crap.

Hi fellow techies!
I'm helping a friend out with her Acer Aspire laptop- it had an issue a while ago, and in the process of trying to figure it out, it seems she accidently restored the factory defaults!
I know Acer usually keeps a "fresh" install backup on a hidden partition, so I think she's over-written her stuff with this.

My question to you guys is... is there any way to undo that? or restore her stuff?
I guess our only hope may be to get ahold of data-recovery software? ( for restoring deleted files)?

Cheers,

You are right..there is no undoing it...but with sophisticated software some files can be saved {some of her user files will not have been written over and can be retrieved}....one has to stop using the machine immediately as to prevent further writing though

Hi all,

Firstly, thanks a lot in advance for helping me out - I've been through what feels like nearly all the other threads in here looking for a solution and I am overwhelmed by the generosity and helpfulness of people here.

So here's my problem. I upgraded my Acer Aspire One netbook (A0150) to Windows 7. This went fine, had a few issues getting Windows 7 SP1 and Microsoft Office SP2 to update via Windows Update (several failures) but got there after multiple tries.

However, since then I've been getting regular, random BSODs. I've tried most of the ideas suggested - ran memtest86 about 5 times with no faults. I had Avast installed so I uninstalled that and changed to MSE, but still get BSODs. I've run sfc /scannow (no problems detected). I've also done a clean reinstall of Windows 7 but get the same problems.

So I've reached the limit of my knowledge - any and all help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks again

Steve

There's a good chance that the Windows 7 driver may work with Windows 8, but the only way to find out it to try it & see. If there are any issues, you should get an error message informing you that the driver isn't compatible, or it may appear to install but just not work! If that is the case, then try IOBits Driver Booster Free - it might be able to find a compatible driver. If it doesn't, then you may have to forgo the card reader....!

Yes, you should be able to add a sparate video card in, replacing the NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE that's built into the motherboard. IIRC there is one x16 slot and one x1 slot.

Hello, tonight I decided to upgrade my windows vista on my Acer Aspire M3800 to Windows 7 with the upgrade disc.

Everything was going fine until around the end of the second disc namely step 21 on the E machines supportpage - eMachines Support - Upgrade Installation from Windows Vista to Windows 7

Since that part takes a few hours I was not watching my computer. About 2 hours after it had begun I came back to my computer and there was an error on the screen. Not thinking I clicked ok and the computer instantly restarted.

As it rebooted I noticed it was now a windows 7 opening page and login screen. However once I got to the account log-in screen I realized I couldnt log in with my admin account and password or any other account for that matter. Looking at E machines support page I also realized my computer was no longer following the correct steps either.

I honestly have no clue where to proceed from this I have tried a safe mode boot and it only took me to the account login page which I cant login from because none of my accounts work.

Any help or support would be appreciated

Just start over again. Windows should not take hours to install. Have you backed up all your data ?
Those instructions look pretty straight forward. I would not leave the pc unattended this time.

Hi sueleehall,

Unfortunately, that is not correct and we do not have an upgrade option to Windows 7. When Windows 7 originally launched, Microsoft offerred a free upgrade. It was a time sensitive offer that has since passed.

Just got a brand New Acer E5-572G. Nice laptop so far. Except ive run into a problem. After upgrading to Windows 10 my onboard speakers no longer play any sound. The speaker icon shows that everything is at full volume and even doing a test sound shows that sound is "playing" just not actually making any noise. Ive attempted to uninstall and reinstall the device but havent had any luck. The headphone jack does still work however. Any help?

I recently bought the Acer TravelMate P658-MG-74QM. According to the shop and to the Acer website it has "Windows 7 Professional (available through downgrade rights from Windows 10 Pro)".Despite the quick setup card showing W10 pictures and the W10 sticker on the laptop, it loaded Windows 7 when I started it for the very first time. Now I am interested in what is the propper way to upgrade to Windows 10? Interestingly the SSDs have two recovery partitions: One with 1 GB and another one with 30 GB. So any chance that Windows 10 is already installed and I only need to switch?

Hi. Please help me! I have an Acer Aspire 5735 and recently took delivery of the update disks from the Acer upgrade offer. I placed disk 1 in the drive and followed the setup only to find that the 5735 wasn't listed. A friend told me to carry on with disk 2 which I did. This installed Windows 7 on my laptop but now I keep getting a message to complete the installation by running disk 1 again. Obviously I can't do this because the 5735 isn't listed. Windows seems to have installed fine but does seem a little slow on start-up and my desktop icons take far too long to load up! I've tried the Acer site which is no use and a number of forums. Unfortunately I am not getting anywhere but rather than take a trip to PC World I thought I would try and get help here.

My questions are:

How do I get rid of the message?
Has Windows installed properly?
Is there something else I need to do?

I was running Vista Home Premium before and the upgrade is 7 home premium.

It's my first post so go easy, as you may have guessed, I'm no computer wiz!

Thanks

busterace, welcome to the forums
Can you give more details as to what the installation disk 1 shows? Can't you select another model, possibly another close to yours? I suspect the only difference will be on drivers or maybe bloatware that will load, since Windows 7 is not dependent on the computer model.

Hello, I have an Acer Aspire L3600 that I would like to upgrade to Windows 7 preferably 64-bit.

I have add a look on the Acer support site and the only driver available is for the sound card. Looking on this forum I see some people have installed Windows 7 but are unable to get a new drive up working with the wireless LAN card.

Does this mean that this model is basically not upgradable? Or as someone else found some tricks around this area where they have found some drivers work.

I am not going to attempt anything until I can satisfy myself that an upgrade will go smoothly.

Robert?

Hello everyone, this is my first post here. I looked around this website and I found that the people in here are very kind. Anyway, I installed Windows 8.1 Professional onto my Acer Aspire 6935g and I found a few problems:

- The brightness does not change at all wether I press FN and Right or Left, or do it from Windows 8. It doesn't change.

- The sound and bass sounds perfect after installing drivers but every now and then it fuzzes, so for instance, when an error appears, it makes a "fzzzzzz" sound and it's annoying. (I did something to it and it might be working fine now, I have to wait and see.)

Those are the problems I am having at the moment, I have to wait and see if I get more problems on Windows 8. I have it dual-booted with Windows 7 just in case if anything goes wrong and thank lord I did. I am typing this in Windows 7 right now because Windows 8 is having some problems. Please can anyone help?

- Ikram232

P.S, sorry if I posted this in the wrong category. I did not know which one to put it in!

I am in way over my head and could use a push in the right direction.

I have an Acer Aspire M5100 Desktop that was running Vista 32 bit. I tried to upgrade to Windows 7, and am now stuck. I do not know what the exact problem is. I think it is EITHER a problem with BIOS or with an incompatible graphics driver.

After the upgrade process (I did not do a clean install), when the computer rebooted for the last time, the screen went black and it it did not advance past a certain point. The error message read, cannot boot from CD.

Since then, when I turn on my computer, the screen goes to black. That's it. If I push delete, I can access BIOS. Even when the boot priority is the CD Rom, nothing happens. I cannot access a GUI to make changes to drivers, etc.

With all of the known incompatibilities this computer has with Windows 7, it probably would be best to return to Vista. Ideally, without a clean install because of all the software and files on the computer. But I understand a clean install might be necessary.

How do I use my Vista recovery CD when there is no GUI accessible? Can I do this through the BIOS menu? I am not good with command prompt coding, so if that is mandatory, I would love some help there!

Unfortunately, I do not know the exact computer specs, again because there is no GUI. The best I can do is this Acer website:
Acer Support: Aspire M5100 Specifications

THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Hi, an Acer Ultrabook was upgraded from Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit to Windows 8 Pro 64bit.
When complete the WiFi did not work but at that time it had Windows.old folder on the C:/ Drive.
The recommendation was to back up a recovery to USB and reinstall Windows 8 again.
This time after the install the WiFi worked but the Windows.old folder was gone.
On the USB Drive in the recovery folder there is a MBR file and folders that total about 2.2GBs.
This is where I offered to try and help my cousin with it.
I'm totally new to Windows 8 and I did not perform the backup.
My cousin has tried to get it to install her photos documents and pictures.
I had a play around trying to get it to install... but I was only noodling around seeing I didnt know how.
I thought of selecting it to boot from the USB but could not get the boot menu up with the F8 key.
At that point I decided to seek council from Tech Support Guy to see how to get this recovery installed "or if it can be!"
Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks

I wanted to know if this would work:
I am about to purchase an HP notebook that comes with Vista Home Premium. One of the options available to purchase is the recovery discs. HP gives me 3 choices:

1. Vista Home Premium for $19.
2. Vista Business for $19.
3. Vista Ultimate for $19.

what would happen if I bought the notebook with Vista Home Premium installed as well as the recovery discs for Ultimate, and then used those recovery discs to upgrade from Premium to Ultimate permanently? would that work? Would I get an error message? Theories are nice but I would like to know if anyone has actually tried it. Thanks.

A:Windows Vista Recovery Upgrade

I believe it works like this. When you purchase Vista, the disc that comes to you is priced for the version of Vista that you paid for. You can use that same disc to upgrade from say Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate by simply using/installing from the same disc but it will cost the difference between the two versions and will require a new activation. You would NOT be able to retain the "old" version and continure using it.
This is not a theory, it is the way the Microsoft Vista installation/upgrade is explaned on their site.

When I first bought this PC, I made the Recovery Discs immediately.  I later upgraded this PC from Win 8.1 to Win 10 back when Windows 10 was a free upgrade.  If I have any major issues in the future, that might require a full recovery, I'd rather NOT have to revert back to Win 8.1 and then have to buy Windows 10 to get back to where I am now. Is there any way to "re-do" the recovery discs now so that any future recovery will get me back to Windows 10? Thanks!!

A:Windows 10 upgrade Recovery Discs

> I'd rather NOT have to revert back to Win 8.1 and then have to buy Windows 10 to get back to where I am now. Since Windows 10 is installed on your computer, Microsoft has a "fingerprint" of your hardware, which entitles you to re-install Windows 10 without buying a product-key. > Is there any way to "re-do" the recovery discs now so that any future recovery will get me back to Windows 10? Yes.  Or, if you have an empty 8GB USB-memory stick, you can write a copy of Windows 10 to it.See: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10/for a free download of Windows 10. When using this media, click "I don't have a product-key", and the "entitlement" will allow you to continue the installation.
