Lithium batteries on airlines

Q: Lithium batteries on airlines

I stumbled on new baggage rules for lithium batteries on airlines. (haven't seen this announced before.)
Spare lithium batteries can not be carried in checked luggage. Only lithium batteries installed in equipment can be in checked baggage.
Spare lithium batteries are allowed in carry-on baggage.

These strange rules will cause your spare lithium camera batteries to be discarded after you check luggage without you being notified. Those are expensive and hard to replace when touring.

Preferred Solution: Lithium batteries on airlines

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

With all the recent reports of the hoverboards people are buying that are catching fire due to the lithium battery that is used in them I have become concerned. It's been reported that they have ignited while being ridden and when brought into the home after riding them homes have caught fire due to the hoverboards igniting.

My question is: I have two laptop pc's that have lithium batteries. I keep them plugged in 24/7 - 365. Due to the afore mentioned I have become worried that they to could catch fire as well. I really don't want to shut them down every time I am not home. What is your opinion on this, please.

Hello all,
I just got in a new Precision 7710 system. I checked out the battery and it says 91 Wh, Standard, Li-ion Battery, Type MFKVP".
However, the order I played had Lithium Polymer selected:
"451-BBUV | 6 Cell (91 Whr) Long Life Cycle Lithium Polymer battery"
Was I given the wrong battery or is it incorrectly labeled?

A:Dell Precision 7710 Batteries - Do I have Lithium Polymer?

No, you do not have the correct battery.
Unfortunately, Dell never made this battery or discontinued it before shipping (yet as of mid-April 2016 they are still offering it on new systems. Ugh.) The 91Whr Lithium-Ion battery (much cheaper) is their replacement equivalent.
You and I have been OVERCHARGED for a battery that they don't have. Call Dell and GET A REFUND.

I need two laptop batteries. These are marked PP2200 and PP2210.

I'm sure there are many out there; but, just try finding someone who is selling batteries that have gone bad.

To be clear, I need two intact batteries that have never been physically damaged, disassembled, corroded, bursted or otherwise opened. I will pay shipping and and something for your trouble, packaging and shipping via PayPal or check mailed direct.

Hello, I'm sure this is old news, but I ran this AA Airline crap and before I knew it was a virus the damage was already done. I killed the computer as soon as I realized trouble and now all I get when I try to start it is "error reading OS". I can't get it to even show a safe mode option with F8. I can get to bios (F2) and boot (F12) but that is it. Any help would be appreciated as I am at a loss. Thanks. Robert.

For some reason I cannot access southwest.com - on any of the three computers I own. At home these three computers access the internet via a wireless modem that connects with the comcast host. When I travel with either laptop the same problem happens. It also happens using Firefox. When I attempt to open southwest.com I get a connecting message and it will grind away for a half-hour or so before finally timing out. Sometimes the southwest site will partially open. I have tried deleting cookies, but that doesn't help. Any suggestions.

A family member of mine was just recently infected with a virus that they got from a fake American Airlines email.  Since they already deleted the email, I cannot paste here what the content was exactly but it seemed like a regular ticket confirmation email.  The only thing that was off was that it included a line saying "in order to use your ticket now, please download the attachment".  As you may have guessed, they actually downloaded the attachment and executed the file inside which was named something like ticket.exe.
I'm not sure what the virus does exactly, but after a few minutes, Mcafee caught it, but it notified us that the computer had to restart in order to fix the problem.  I booted into safe mode with networking, but things seemed to be in working order.  When I googled the virus, I heard it was supposed to black out your desktop and erase your program icons from the start menu, but this doesn't seem to be the case here.  After a few more minutes, Mcafee's real-time scan disabled itself and I'm unable to turn it back on.
The computer is running Windows 7, 64-bit ultimate.  Let me know if you need more information, otherwise I'll update with any new problems as they come up.
Thanks for all your help!

I'm posing for my Mom's computer system. This is what she has done so far to it.
I have Windows XP Professional Verison. It's a HP System. I put in a new Fan Motor and a new Lithium Battery and now it will not boot. It powers on and freezes up. Though if I turn it off and unplug then pop battery out and then put the same battery back in it will boot up to the setup screen. If I tell it to reset it's settings, it then will fully boot up and I can do whatever I want on my system. All my info is there and data. Now it will run until I shut it down. But after a shut down or restart it will not come back up. I even tried a new battery from the store thinking maybe the battery I got was bad or something. I appreciate any help anyone could give me. I'm loosing my mind.

I'm in the market for a new digital camera, probably a 5-megapixel model. I have two CANON 2-MP digicams and several Compact Flash cards. While I'm partial to CANON, I would also strongly consider other highly-rated cameras, regardless of brand, and especially -- though not exclusively -- those which use CF cards.

One of my cameras uses AA batteries, so I have two sets of NIMH and a 15-minute recharger. I really like the convenience/availability of AA's, but it seems that most 5-MP cameras use some form of proprietary battery, usually lithium-ion, instead. Why is this? Do the proprietary batteries such as the lithium-ion have major advantages over AA NiMh's?

I'm open to suggestions and recommendations for a good 5-MP camera, no matter what type of batteries and media cards are used; I'd be willing to move away from AA and CF for a great deal on a digital camera.

Thank you,

From what I understand you will do no harm to the lithium battery by leaving power to it after it is charged. It is unlike a nickelcadium as it does not retain a memory. The best thing to do is read the documentation that came with your laptop.

There are various ways to book a flight ticket. We can do it ourselves or let others do it for us. We can make the booking online, through a travel agency, etc.

A:Asus P5LP-LE (lithium) cpu compatibility

I'm assuming you have an HP? What HP model do you have as they'll determine what processors HP has decided to support and you'll likely need to update the BIOS. The one reference I found to the board is here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00379616&dlc=en&lc=en&cc=ca
Only lists Pentium D's on that page but that may not be the full list and it may support additional dual core processors being an Intel 945P chipset.

Also, what exactly do you mean you need a new CPU because yours is old? Are you having an issue you are tryign to resolve?

This is a notebook that looks like a tablet and has in internal battery.  The battery has expanded (>5x in thickness) and cracked off the back of the case. I did call HP tech support and after almost an hour of being bounced around I learned since it out of warranty it would be $230-350 to fix. I was also told it was safe to turn on and I was directed to turn the computer on and run some tests (on battery). The tests passed. I now wish to safely back up, erase and dispose of the PC. Since running the tests the battery is now dead so I?m going to need to plug it in to do this. Is this safe? How else can I safely backup \ erase the computer? How or where to I dispose of this PC? I spoke with a number of stores that take old electronics and they didn?t take things with damaged lithium batteries.

Recently completed 2 new builds for my cousin and brother (both being nearly identical) but have got an issue on the latter thats left me stumped.

Basically, when booting up the PC there will be no output for the screen, and the system will apparently idle.

However, when booting up without the lithium battery to run on defaults everything runs fine, provided power has completely left the PC before powering up again.

So, if booting up without the battery and the system has been left to power down fully... its fine, if restarting without the battery all is fine.

If booting up with the battery or immediately after shutting down, it will fail as described, if restarting with the battery is will fail again as described.

This is true 100% of the time I use it.

Processor : Intel Q8400
Motherboard : XFX nForce 750i SLI
RAM: Corsair DDR2 XMS2 4GB

If that helps.

Any ideas? I'd really like to get this resolved so I can off load the PC , or at the least get some pointers in the right direction if anything needs replacing.

Thanks in advance.

A:Boot-up with lithium battery = fail; without = success??

I assume you have checked that the clear cmos jumper is in the correct or keep position.

I would RMA the board. FWIW when you do an intel build, you use a quality board using an intel chipset. When you use third party chipset boards like nvidia, sis, via, etc; you are asking for a problem.

If you really really must use a nvida chipset, at least go with a quality board maker. XFX is low end at best.

Then i came to the problem of power supplies... Is it possible to put a UK battery into a US laptop?? I mean, i can always use a power converter with the original US battery pack.... but it's a bit of hassle... especially when i'm at college and i need power quick.

I thought that all the components ran on the same power which would mean that the battery/power supply would convert the local power wattage/voltage to a universal level that the equipment would work at...

That would mean i would be able to remove the US battery from the US laptop and replace it with a UK battery using UK adapter???

I hope what i said made sence :S
I'm really confused and dont know how to explain my problem

Thanks to anyone who responds !
It's greatly appreciated!!

Hi, I need to replace my laptop battery. The original battery has a voltage of 11.1 V. However, the replacements that are available in the market has slightly higher voltages (11.25 V and 11.4 V).  Can you please let me know whether my laptop will get damaged if I replace my original battery with a slightly higher voltage battery ? Also, Please let me know if these batteries are available in HP stores ?

Hi.. some months ago my UPS batteries died on me after a little more than 1 and half years and then i replaced the batteries from the same store few months ago. The batteries that came in the UPS were 12V 7.5ah (each) and those guys convinced me that 12V 7ah (each) batteries will work fine too.. now a couple of days ago i had a power-failure and the UPS kept the PC hardly 8mins and suddenly started beeping fast and shut off everything even the LCD was running on lowest contrast and brightness and only windows was running so there was no peak load as well on PSU and the last batteries used to give around 15 to 20 mins easily.

So now i know those liars sold me out the low-quality chinese made batteries which cannot even give much backup time and who knows if they're refurbished? they did'nt came with any warranties. Now my real question is im looking to buy some better qualities Lead Acid Batteries for the UPS and i was think if i might be able to use 12V 9ah batteries instead of 7ah or 7.5ah.. i heard that the 9ah will hold more charge and can give some more time for backup (just in case) will they work?

A:Can i use 9ah Batteries instead of 7ah Batteries in the UPS?

Hi boogie , You will be fine using the 9ah batteries as long as the charger inside the UPS can sustain the charge rate on its float cycle (it should be able to ) , When you bought the 7ah batteries were they fully charged ?

Is it bad to keep a computer plugged in?

Keeping it maxed out @ 100% I heard was bad.... Does it really matter? I go through the process of draining and charging, and I had my computer for 7 months.... In fact I am draining it now... So is it true? Does it really hurt the battery? Thanks

It's good to put it on battery and drain it down from time to time. Keeping it plugged in 100% of the time isn't ideal.

Hi guys, it's little me again.

This is a question about, lo and behold, batteries. I'm on my laptop right now, on it's gorgeous new battery that I Ebayed and got recently. The first day I got it, I installed it right away and charged it. The real issues with this laptop before I got the battery were that the connection from the power cable to the laptop was a bit wack (as in, I have to wiggle it and wait 'til the connection is actually completed) and that the battery never charged, no matter how long i kept it (actually) connected. So, I fixed one of those with the new battery, so I thought.

So now, the battery charges fully, and I can stay off the power cord for maybe 30 minutes? at most? I'm about to try it now again, see if it gives me the same issue.

Thinking about that, I get reminded of my iPod battery, which lasts longer, but still not long enough. Plus, the power bar at the top right corner goes all sorts of places but does not always tell me just how much power is left in my poor mp3 player.

Any suggestions on what i should do with my electronics specifically, or what I could do to increase the longevity of chargable batteries (Li-Ion batteries specifically, it seems) like this in general?

I heard a lot of people talking about how batteries of a laptop will degenerate over time.

How much degeneration should I expect over a year?

Should I take out the battery from the laptop and store it when I don't need it?

Also, is there overcharging when you leave a battery in the laptop forever? like the battery continuously gains charge. Can you make it so that the battery stops charging after it reaches 100%?

I think this article will answer your astute question and a lot more. From these articles it is good to remove the battery.

Proper Laptop Battery Care

I will try to answer any question that is posted, but I like your question in particular. It asks what can I do to prevent a problem, rather than the usual, "Ihave a problem".

Continue good preventive maintenance, return here with any questions and you will get many years of trouble free service for your computer and the great OS that you have chosen.
