Import pictures - can't select folder

Q: Import pictures - can't select folder

I'm trying to import pictures from external device (in this case - android phone with PTP) and in the import dialog I've selected "import settings" and then I'm trying to change "Import images to" location, but when I click on Browse and select the same path I was using on windows 7 (on E: partition) I get error "You cannot import to this folder. Choose another location" which, frankly, doesn't make much sense. I've tried permissions and so forth and I can easily browse and save picture there, I'm the owner and all that. Why Pictures Importer complains and doesn't allow me to use this location? I don't want to import to %profile%/Pictures because it's small-ish system drive :|

Preferred Solution: Import pictures - can't select folder

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Import pictures - can't select folder

Try creating the partition/drive you want as a Library - Nope - that didn't work, either.

First post for some help at work!
I need to configure a pc so that it uses a folder with pictures in it (folder is located in a network drive) to loop trough the background. I can select a folder and select al the pictures in it, but if someone else copies some more photo's to that folder, they don't come up on the desktop background. I first have to select these photo's before they are added to the loop.
Does anyone have an idea how to do this so that someone else can change the pictures in the folder(network drive) and windows background loops through al the photo's in that map without having to do anything?

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,

I have a very strange problem:
I am using Windows Media Player 11 under Windows Xp Pro SP1 with all the needed updates.
I can import (add) videos and songs to my libray but strangely it doesn't want to add pictures. (plain jpegs)
I tried both methods: by monitoring my grafix folder, and via drag and dropping my files. Nothing happens. 0 added files...
First I thought, there are to many files, but also with single files or very small quantities (10) nothing happens.
It's a shame, I'm using WMP11 to stream stuff to my PS3, now I can't stream my pictures because WMP won't import them in its library.

Did anyone have the same problem, can anyone shed light on this strange mystery.

Thanx a lot for helping me out!

A:WMP 11 won't import pictures to Library

Hi dateacha, and welcome to TSF.

Some of us are on SP3 now. I would not advise you to go that far but, you have to get SP2. Not having it is leaving your computer open to all kind of problems. Microsoft updates has more of an effect on your system than you would think. Its imperitive that you get these updates asap.

Do that and tell me if you have the same problems.

Recently got an iTouch, and I want to import pictures from it to my Windows XP computer without using a third-party software. Strange thing is that when I go to "My Computer", it doesn't show my iPod.

A:How do I import pictures from iTouch to computer?

Sadly I am not aware of a way to transfer without a third-party aid.

Sometimes if it doesn't pop up on a USB port try another. Many times hardware(in your case itouch) requires usb 2.0 or 3.0 to install the drivers if any are available on the device.

If still nothing you can download this(free) -> http://www.macroplant.com/release/iP...orer_Setup.exe

Email the pictures to yourself

Or FTP them over using local wireless internet.

Hello everyone.

I'm having some problems with my computer and I was hoping someone would be able to help me out :<

I have folders on my computer which I store lots of images in for artwork resources.

I don't know why it happens, perhaps after I add a new image to the folder or change an existing image and save it, The folder sort of freezes/crashes, I cant click on any of the thumbnails, I cant close the folder, go to File or anything like that, Highlight anything drag nothing.

All it lets me do is minimise, maximise and scroll up and down. It wont even highlight the images/thumbnails when I click on them. I can still get into the files if I open them when I'm already in say photo shop, but I cant open them when I'm in the folder.

In the past I've had to go via Photo shop and re-save all the files from the crashed folder into a new one just so I can actually use the folders normally.

I mean it wont even let me close the folder T_T; it just crashes worse and worse every time I try and do anything until the screen freezes and then I have to re-start my computer.

Re-starting the computer and system restores do nothing the folders stay locked down. I'm actually really upset, as I lost everything from my last computer and it had photos of my mother on the hardrive, my mother has since passed away and they where all I had left. I have a few left on this new computer but I'm so afraid of loosing these last few I have.

I'm on XP, and I've never had a prob... Read more

Unfortunately I'm having a problem with the Import Pictures and Videos facility in Windows 7. When I attach my digital camera to my PC the Autoplay screen appears, so I choose the "Import pictures and videos using windows" option. The problem is that when I then try and click on "Import settings" absolutely nothing happens. It's strange as the "hand" appears when I hover over "Import settings" but when I click this it simply doesn't work. The upshot of this is that I'm no longer able to choose the location where my photos end up when I transfer them from the camera to the PC.

I realise I can import pictures and videos using windows live photo gallery, but it intrigues me why the "Import settings" function doesn't work when using the windows option. At first I thought Windows may have got slightly corrupted somehow, so I did a repair install using my Windows 7 DVD last night but, alas, the same problem exists. Does anyone know how I can get the "Import settings" function working again (perhaps something in the registry needs amending)? Many thanks in advance for any advice. Chris

A:Solved: Import Pictures and Videos problem

Good news - I found an indirect way to get my "Import settings" functioning again. I basically had to create a new user via the Control Panel and copied my files across as shown below. Now everything is fine!

To create a new user profile

To create a new profile, you must first create a new user account. When the account is created, a profile will also be created.
Open User Accounts by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking User Accounts and Family Safety (or clicking User Accounts, if you are connected to a network domain), and then clicking User Accounts.
Click Manage another account. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Click Create a new account.
Type the name you want to give the user account, click an account type, and then click Create Account.
To copy files to the new user profile

After you create the profile, you can copy the files from the existing profile. You must have at least three user accounts on the computer to complete these steps, including the new account you just created.
Log on as a user other than the new user you just created or the user that you want to copy files from.
Open Documents by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Documents.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
If you don't see the Tools menu, press ALT.
Click the View tab, click Show hidden files and folders, clear the Hide protected operating system... Read more

I formatted my drive after I saved my favorites and my pictures to CD. Formatting cleared up the problem of two dial up connections. I tried everything on that. The duplicate connection is no more. I have typed in "Export Pictures from CD to My Pictures folder" without the quotes and I get a list of links pertaining to CD recording errors and other things like that. I did right click on a picture in Drive E (my CD-RW) just to see what would come up and I noticed that on the Send To menu that these pictures can be sent to the desktop. Is this what I should do then? Send them to the desktop and open them and send them from here to the My Pictures folder? It can't be that easy, can it? Let me hear from anybody.

I currently use windows vista's import utility to import pics off my compact flash card to my pc, but there are two things I would like it to be able to do which it doesn't, as far as I can see.

1. I use more than one media card, and I want the contents of each card to go to different parent folders. I want a program to look at the serial number of the card (or any data that's unique to the card) and remember where I have previously stated I want those pics to be saved to. So that when I put in another card, it will copy the pics to my pre-defined location, and not to the same folder as the previous card.

2. Upon import, I want the program to group the pics in folders based on the date the picture was taken, not the date of the importing. Also, during this importing process, when it moves to the next folder (i.e. whenanother day's photos are beginning import) that I can add a descripton, that will be appended to the folder name after the "date taken".

Does such a program exist?

A:Looking for a cleverer utility to import pictures from media cards

A program like Picasa will let you name your folders and location to put them with the pics inside and, it keeps changing with updates, but I think you can still specify just the pics you want to be imported so you could repeat that process for each "days" photos from the card.

As far as identifying each media card individually or the "days" photos being deterministic as to location and number to import of and by themselves...I haven't seen anything even close to being that sophisticated. It might exist somewhere but its probably not free.

I had moved 'My Pictures' folder away from C: \Users\username\My Pictures when I first set the computer up and I had it in another partitioned drive (E.

For space reason I wanted to move it back to it's original location above and moved the whole folder across to the C: but instead of having it as a folder in the username folder as it should be I merged it in error with the username folder!

The folder is now named My Pictures and has the path C: \Users\My Pictures\ in the registry. I have (hopefully) attached the properties of the folder which shows that there is no location tab. The network path is shown as \\HOME\Users\username.

How do I clean up the folder back to it's standard user folder detail without the merged detail of My Pictures and I guess the easier part is to create a new My Pictures folder and point the registry to it (as per the detail in the top line).

All the pictures in my Pictures folder have disappeared, leaving behind a bunch of empty folders. I did not delete them, and I have no viruses according to AVG. It appears that this happened to a few others on this forum, but no solutions were presented.

If it helps - I noticed that the Read Only button was checked on the main folder, so I unchecked it, and I watched the status window un-apply "read only" protection from all my actual pictures files, so it seems to me that they're still there but invisible.

I performed a system restore, and Recova is in the process of performing a "Deep Scan" for my pictures (the quicker scan did not find the files). Has anyone solved the problem of the disappearing pictures? Is this a Vista problem, or perhaps a problem with an update? Any help would be appreciated!

Read only shouldn't have anything to do with it. Have you checked the Recycle Bin and AVG's quarantine? Is the Hidden attribute cleared? Have you installed any new programs or updates?

I have a problem with one of my vista accounts' picture folder. When saving to "my pictures", I went back to my "user" folder to find the pictures folder... but the picture I saved was actually saved to what appears to be a 'false' recycle bin; Only, this 'recycle bin' does not behave like the actual recycle bin, since I can browse and even open photos from within it, and it also does not have the "restore" option... When I try to change the name of the "recycle bin" folder to "pictures" (from the properties window) it says that there is already a folder with the name 'pictures', but then refers to the same 'recycle bin' with my photos. How could this have happened? How do we get the folder to return to the normal "pictures" appearance? It's as if part of the software thinks that it's the pictures folder, and part thinks it's (somehow??) the recycle bin (based on its appearance). Thank you.

Hello, I tried searching to see if this question was asked but I didn't see it so here it goes...

My mother has a digital camera that I typically use most of the time. It is a Sony DSC-N2 Cyber-shot camera. The memory card that I use is a Sandisk Pro Duo 2.0 gb.

When we first started using the camera it was saving the pictures in folders using MM/DD/YYYY on the memory card and if it was a different day or whatever it would create a new folder so all I had to do was click the option of just importing the new folders on my computer. A couple months later it now only saves them under the DCIM folder, then a subfolder named 101MSDCF, where it just dumps all the pics there and no longer saves the way I used to like it. So now to import I have to create a new folder in my pics open the folder from the memory card highlight the ones from that day and put it there so it doesn't import all the pics from that folder. I was wondering if there is a way of having it save the way it used to instead of the DCIM, subfolder 101MSDCF. I tried going to the menu on my digital camera but all I could do is see what folder the pics are saving into, which is the 101 folder thing and cannot change it..

I hope that makes sense, and thanks for the help in advance!

A:DCIM folder/import help

DCIM simply means 'digital camera images' and will always stay. The format of other sub folders can be in the 'set up' menu of the camera. I think you are looking in the 'record' menu.

I am newbie and running Vitsa Basic 32 bit. I hope I am in correct thread and this is my first post.

My questions are does Vista need to have a User name/ documents / favorites folder? And a User name/ favorites folder?
I had a problem importing favorites from my win XP IE 7 via a flash drive,( not a valid bookmark file error ) and after upgrading to IE 8, uninstalling IE 8 and reverting back to IE 7 I got my favorites into the User Name non documents folder.
I deleted the favs folder in documents which showed it as empty. Now I cannot re import my favs again from the flash drive.
I am trying to avoid the whole process of installing IE 8 and reverting to 7 again and I think I did some stupid deleting.

Can I just create a documents /folder name favorites and hope that IE will import form there? If so I tried it and got an error ( incomplete URL ). I am in over my head .

Should I have just been happy that my favorites seemed to work with just the User Name Favorites folder and not messed around?

you would need to export the favorites as an HTML file from Chrome before you can import them into another chrome account.

If you use a Chrome (Google) account, you can sync them together by signing in to Chrome with the same account. Then they both can be on both instances of Chrome at the same time.

I recently started working with Windows 7 and I haven?t figured out yet how to set a folder to select files to download.

When I go to a web form and I want to upload files from my hard drive, in all previous versions of Windows that I worked with, I used to select once the desired folder, pick a file to upload and for all subsequent file uploads, pressing the "Examin" or "Select file" button would take me to the same folder, saving me a lot of mouse clicks if I manually need to upload several files.

Since I switched to Windows 7 everytime I want to upload a file, it takes me to the Documents Library and I need to navigate to the desired folder again.

I have used Shortcuts to eliminate some clicks, but I prefer Windows to always go to the folder I used the last time I needed to select a file.

I have not found an applicable setting in the File and Folder options menu.

Any help is appreciated!

Something I read trying to solve this problem by myself, was that if you donīt copy, move or rename in the proper manner, the whole folder could get corrupted. Now this problem is beyond my power and I will indeed appreciate your help to get my inbox folder back to OutLook Express, before I do something else wrong. I know where the folders are but I guess I have a problem with the renaming that I am unable to solve. Please Help.

I use Outlook 2003 and have a separate e-mail contact list for a club. A new club person is going to manage/maintain the e-mail list but they use Windows Live Mail. I know how to import contacts into WLM, but I can't figure out how to import them to a sub folder under Contacts. The Import contacts option doesn't allow selecting where to import the contacts.

How about importing them in and then make a group contact list for the ones you want in this specific group?

I thought I'd lost my 'recipe' folder during a recent hdd crash and reinstall. Found the folder on my internal backup drive (computer>backup>dellbert>C>Users>Dell>AppData>Local>Microsoft>WLM>Storage Folders>Recipes). They have been renamed. Example...0A1A20BB-00000150.

How can I import them back into WLM? I tried dragging and dropping the folder. I've tried copying the folder and pasting. There is no import option. There is a "Restore Previous Versions" option but I don't know exactly what that will do so I've not tried it.

Is there a way to import photos from a folder? In other words, I would like to us the import photo feature commonly found in picture editing applications, but would like to point to a folder on my desktop (c:\ drive) rather than a camera or external device. The reason I want to do this is because I want to group the photos in folders by date taken and have then moved to my "Pictures" folder along with all my other photos. In the past, I used Google Picasa 3 to do this, but it is no longer supported and I would like to find another way. Any suggestions?

A:How to import photos from folder (not an external device)

The Windows Photo App allows you to select any folder as a location for the pictures it processes. You add your folder via the settings page.

The pictures will then appear along with all the others you have in date order. The Photos app does not physically move the pictures but simply sorts the viewing of them and even automatically creates albums for you. It might be worth a look at this before you try any other apps.

I have just installed Win 8.1 and can't find a way to select all files in a folder using only the mouse. I could do it under Win 7 by using Organize. Is there a Win 8 equivalent? I know about Ctrl-A but that is not what I want.

Thank you.

This could be one for the books,

Last night when I went to look at the Pictures folder in My Documents there was a folder of pictures and six other pictures in my folder that no one, not me, nor anyone else downloaded to the computer. All of them are JPG files and we have friends who have e-mailed pictures to us.

However, in my fifteen years of computer experience I know that I would personally have to download those photos to mu computer in order for them to be viewed. A family member has posted unrelated pictures on E-bay. We are trying to think and there were no e-mails opened, no photos looked at, nothing between the time that this happened, (Last Night.) Because a family friend who is into photography sent nature pictures through E-Mail, I just assumed it was from him and said, "Oh, I put those pictures that you downloaded last night in a folder, and the other computer user in my family said, "What pictures?"

I don't use Photo Sharing of any kind, My Avast Anti-Virus log shows now threats. All of the pictures are OLD. BUT here is the interesting thing, of the photo specs of them so far that I can see, they were taken by a person who has the SAME type of camera that we use on this computer. BUT we just got the camera last year and no one else has used it. The dates on those pictures go back from 2000-2003.

There is no evidence of anyone using any photo sharing application software. The computer runs as well as as ever. Any ideas?

A:Mysterious Pictures Showed Up in My "My Pictures" Folder

Do a search by date for the dates a day before and a day after the picture date. Maybe those ppictures were attached to some album or video show viewed recently and automaticly posted to MY PICTURED folder. Or perhaps the person who did email you mistakenly included some pictures, maybe even by forwarding an olld email from the picture taker.
