I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I'm not an expert in dismantling or repairing laptops, but it's my guess that something got disconnected or damaged during the process.

Just in case you need it, here is the support site for the Toshiba Satellite P55W-B5112 15.6" Touchscreen Laptop.

not really sure where this goes, but i figured this would be the best place out of all the others

so last night (or rather this morning at 12.08am) i set my fujitsu t580 to sleep before i went to sleep myself.

this morning, i woke up to find that its power lights weren't on despite being plugged in to a charger (which is confirmed to be connected to a working power supply as the router connected to the same extension cable is still working) and it did not respond at all to me flicking the power switch

i've tried the ol' method of getting rid of residual static (disconnect all power sources, hold power button for a minute); doesn't work. my finger was on that switch the entire time my phone was loading the "new thread" page which is no small duration

i'm quite sure it's not the power supply; my battery still had a pretty fresh lifespan of 2hours (at least for a 2.5 year old battery) last i checked a month ago and i doubt that could've depleted overnight while the comp was asleep. can't test the charger though because stupid fujitsu made a charger with a plug that doesn't fit any of the other non fujitsu laptops around the house

a little background info of my lappy: got it about april 2011, been showing signs of some fan trouble since about june last year but i only bothered to clean the fan in sept this year after fan errors started popping up. since then, comp has shown no signs of trouble other than general signs of... I recently bought a pretty old used Laptop (specifically, an ancient Toshiba Tecra 720CDT).
It didn't come with it's own DC adapter, so I ended up connecting wires from a stripped adapter onto the jack.
The only sign of life I got here was having the battery LED turn on (yellowish colour), only to turn off again a second later.
This only actually happened when I held down the on button.

I figured that it was simply trying to charge, but the wires couldn't be connected to the laptop long enough, so I took the thing apart and replaced the jack on the PSU to fit one of my many standard sized adapters.
Turning it on, I got the exact same thing.
The seller's telling me that it worked fine before he sent it to me.

Hey everyone,

My laptop (i'm not sure the make or model matters) suddenly died, it was working fine one minute, left the room for around 30 seconds, came back and has seemingly has no power. The machine has been running purely off the power adapter because there is no battery. There's no lights on, indicating an electrical connection; it's completely dead. I used a phase tester to confirm a good power adapter, so the problem seems to be with the computer. I don't think the electrical input socket (?) is at fault cos it's not loose.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Maybe it has something to do with that internal coin-shaped battery?

I'd really appreciate any help because i'm completely at a loss as to what i should do next...

Thanks!

A:ZE4500 Laptop Suddenly died, lights out, no sign of life, boo

Could be a dry joint on power connector, underside motherboard try wiggling to see if you get some response, coin battery is only to retain CMOS information.

Is there a setting to address this issue, or is this a hardware problem?

Turn off the laptop, remove the battery and then start up again (with the AC power attached of course!). Do you still get the problem? Or does the laptop not turn on at all?

I have a brand new Sony Vaio, which I just bought a month ago.

There's this problem with it whereby after I shut down/hibernate, the next time/day I want to turn on my PC, the power button shows that it is on, but there's no display on the LCD Screen.

I have no choice but to force shut down (press power button for 4 secs) and then turn on my PC again. The 2nd time, it will power up like usual, the LCD displays boot screen again and everything work well (except that each time I do that, my windows time is reset to Jan. 2005 12.00AM)

Would it be something wrong with my BIOS?

I hope someone can help me with that, because it is sort of annoying at times and frequent force shut down may harm the PC I believe.

Thanks in advance!

I have a T23 IBM laptop. When I push the power button, it flashes green lights on the startup row like it will start up but then all lights except the (Z) go off. The fan sounds like it runs with a pulsating whirr. That is the only noise I can hear and it is quite loud. It is not a rattle, just a soft whirr that gets loud and then soft repeatedly.
I get nothing on the screen, no post, no beeps, nothing but black. When the problem first started, the LCD screen showed rows of different colors, not icons, just rows of colors.
I don't know what to do. I have replaced the hard drive, thinking that might be the problem, but that didn't help.
Does anyone know how to fix it, or what may have caused this problem?

Hi

My PackBell Easynote E2 has had enough of my 13yr old daughters MSN , pics AND MUSIC from her phone and has given up on me!!

When I turn it on I get the PB screen then instead of loading Windows I get a menu for starting the system; either in XP Home Edition or Windows Recovery Console, if I do nothing it tries to load in XP and then all I get is a black screen with a black and white bar at the bottom! I can't even start in safe mode and none of the lights (where the CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK buttons are) are doing anything. IS MY BABY DEAD????

Tried to load in Recovery Console mode and then realised I didn't know the Administrator password. Did press F2 and got into Admin password bit and it asked me for new password but where it said old password looked very dim (a bit like me LOL) LIKE THERE WASN'T AN OLD PASSWORD!?!.

Can anyone tell me what has happened and also, even better; how to fix it.

Thanx

Kathy

A:PB EasyNote - No Sign of Life!!!

Have you just tried hitting enter when it asks you for the admin password?

Generally unless you've set one on a home PC, then there isn't one set.

If you can get in to rc like that, select the c:\windows option and when it prompts you 'c:\windows>' type chkdsk /p /r

Once its complete type exit and reboot. If that doesn't fix it post back.

However a good sign is that the mobo has a light on it that is nice and lit I know that it can be a mounting problem, or a faulty PSU, or even that the thermal paste on the CPU/Heatsink sitting could be messed up.

The power switch on my laptop broke off. I ordered a new one but it was delayed getting the part from HP. In the mean time, I was able to short out the switch to power on through the hole in the case when necessary and everything was fine, waiting for the part.  After a few weeks of this, it just quit working though - it wouldn't power on any longer. The power adapter is putting out power but the charging light doesn't come on. I measured power at the power connector to the motherboard and there was power but no lights, no fan, nothing.  I talked to a tech and he said if power was available to the board, then the only remedy was to replace the motherboard. I'm willing to do this (it was just out of warranty) since that's a lot cheaper than replacing the PC but HP shows the part is "not yet available" and I have no idea what that means.  In the mean time, I switched to a Mac so I could get back to work but I'd like to salvage the PC if I can fo the kids for homework.  Any thoughts ? I found a couple of on-line sources claiming they have the board but I'm not willing to spend $500 on these kinds of suppliers. Appreciate any help.

Hi,
I have a custom build desktop. One week ago it started to stop booting due to a missing file or corrupt file error on Windows XP. Yesterday when I decided to fix it via repair function of windows, I plugged the desktop to the outlet and press the power switch, It startedas normal ( fans started spinning, lights came on) and couple minutes later, It shut down itself andsmopkes came out of the power supply.

I unplugged the computer, from the outlet and removed the power supply unit from the case, I smelledlike cable burn and Ifigured that I fried my power supply some how.

I went to a computer store to replace my old power supply ( Turbolink Switching Powersupply Model: LC-A350ATX) with Antec BP 350. I installed the new power supply and pressed the power switch the fans and lights came on again but one minute later it shut down itself and since that time whenever I want to start it, It doesn't do anything at all. No fan spins, no lights.

I removed all the cables from other devices. I checked the connections of motherboard, no sign of burn mark on motherboard. But still no nothing.

What else can I do to figure out the problem?

Thank you for your help. I appreciate it.

When a power supply goes up in smoke, it usually takes other parts with it. Unfortunately, without replacing or testing each part one at a time, there's no easy way to tell.

The fastest solution would be to bring the whoel PC down to a local repair shop to have them test it.

Hello again everyone,

I am frequently uploading things to my website with a shaky dial-up connection, so I need to often check to see if the connection has terminated. Beyond signing up for broadband (I wish) or buying an LCD (ditto), what is the best balance between saving energy use with my monitor and extending its life? At one extreme I could simply turn the monitor off and on every thirty minutes or so to save energy, but I highly doubt that is very good for it. At the other I could just leave it on all the time to avoid power cycling, but that would waste energy.

My real question is: If I turn the brightness and contrast knobs all the way down so there is a dark screen (like it is off), what effect would that have on energy usage and monitor life?

Have You checked with an Ohmic-Digitalmeter (Range 200 Ohms) up from the DC-Connector the Wires go to the Mainboard or other Board there is really   no Ohmic Resistance between, a bad Soldering Point, etc.. 19 Volts from the Power Supply should be the nominal Voltage no Load is ok.You check also the Start switch or eventually on some Place the DC-Power Fuse? Good luck regards Willy a Notebook User too

Here are my specs.
Mobo: ECS G31T-M7
CPU: Intel Celeron Dual Core E3300
Memory: Elixir DDR2-800 1GB

I've already tested my PSU by shorting the green and black wires, they're perfect. The power switches, I don't know but I'm pretty positive that they're okay. No beeps occur, since my case doesn't have any speaker. I've also tested the cases' indicator lights, they're good too. And then I also made sure I got the connectors on the front panel connected correctly.

The CPU fan doesn't work, no lights, no anything.

It's been quite okay this morning but I have to attend to something so I shut it down and when I returned to turn it on, it just won't.

I think it's my mobo, the chip that has the manufacturer's name on it heated up like crazy and then it won't turn on. Still, I don't know what happened, because the specs are all new. I also tried resetting the CMOS but nothing happened.

Help!!!

A:Help! My computer does not show any sign of power

Try shorting the power switch header pins on the motherboard to eliminate the case switch as a problem or, if you prefer, connect the reset switch to those pins. There is no practical functional difference between the reset and power on switch.

1.Can using the high performance power plan shorten the life of a computer? Or does it just use more energy?
2.Does it affect HDD performance and life?

It won't "wear it out". It will use a slight more energy.

I use my PC for my Recording Studio and have it set for high performance. The only thing I do is "power off" the monitor after 30 minutes. The PC (desktop) is a home built and almost 3 years old. No signs of any issues (e.g. fans) because of the power plan I'm using.

Hi All,

Could someone please provide some ideas.

We have just upgraded a bunch of users to windows10. And we need to sign out/log off/lock screen from time to time. But this is not obvious in the default desktop layout and these options not available in the power menu. I would like to add the sign out/log off/lock screen options in the power menu and is this possible to add in the layout as well ? And since we have a large number of users I'm thinking of using the Group Policy to do a mass deployment. I'm using Windows Server2012R2

I've been searching through the settings and policies and in the Group Policy tried enabling the "Add Logoff to the Start Menu" policy setting but that doesn't work. Tried anyway although it doesn't seem to support Windows10. Tried to do the same using the Local Policy Editor on my pc also didn't work.

Please let me know how to add sign out/log off/lock screen to all users pc on their powermenu/layout using Group Policy in the Windows Server2012. Much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

K.

Hi there, Having trouble with my T430, which appears to be completely dead following a RAM upgrade. I've done the usual plugging it out, battery removal, RAM removal and holding the power button before plugging it back in etc, but it still shows no sign of life. Worse, this now persists even when I replace the original RAM to test it. The only thing I did beyond normal is that I momentarily forgot that the full bottom chassis doesn't need to be removed to add the second stick of RAM, and had begun to do so before remembering. I'm replacing x1 stick of this:  With x2 sticks of this:  I was grounded and have checked to ensure I didn't jostle any cables etc when replacing. Really at a loss here so any help at all would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Shagwell

Does anyone notice wildly varying and/or continuously varying battery life time estimates from Lenovo Power Manager and Windows 7 over the course of their laptop use? Is this normal? I find it hard to believe it is normal due to other laptops running Win 7 I've used that provide steadily declining (and predictable battery run times) vs. the remaining battery life time revisions that I've seen on my Lenovo P50. Thoughts and/or suggestions?

Hello I am having trouble getting my HP envy to boot up at all. My device has long been past warranty (and even if it still had warrAnty I hAve long voided it by opening it up myself) so I have been able to access and become familiar with its interior.Quite simply the device currently no matter what I do will not exhibit any signs of booting up whenever I attempt to start the device. The device does indeed receive power , but that is about it. The computer has two power lights to indicate power is being received. It has a orange light whenever it would indicate that the battery is charging, and that orange light becomes a white light to indicate when the battery is fully charged. The second light is on the power button board and is white colored and indicates when the laptop is powered on.Whenever I push the power button, the light usually does nothing for approx 11 seconds, then it(the light) turns on for less than a second and immediately turns off. Meanwhile the light over at the power socket stays constant until the power button light comes on, where the power socket light then turns off, the orange then white then orange again, then remains constant once more when a new battery is installed and the computer is plugged in to the AC adapter. When the battery is disconnected and the AC adapter is plugged in, it is nearly identical. The power socket light remains white constant until 11seconds after the power button was pushed where it(power socket light) then will turn off, ... Read more

We had a power surge and I had an admin password on the pc. I'm not asking for the password as I know it, but for some reason the power surge wiped it out and I can't log on. I can only get to the part where you can boot up and maybe use the F2 or F12 key, but I'm green on that stuff. I was not able to back up my pictures or doc. I did get a restore CD from Dell the other day, but I'm just seeing if there is any other way I can do a restore without wiping all my contents from the computer and find a way to get past the admin window before I do that. If that's the only way, then okay, but I was hoping for some glimmer of chance.

Okay, I was able to get on the system in safe mode via the password. I deleted the password and then it still didn't work. I did a system restore in safe mode and created a reset password disk as well. So I restarted the PC. It took the password I created, but then I got a user profile failed to load and then it went directly to logging off. Hmm...So I'm able to get on via safe mode, but not anything else. I have four restore disks, but am hoping I don't have to do that.

A:Dell PC had power surge lost ability to sign on

If you are unable to log on successfully using the password, you could remove the hard drive, place it into a USB drive enclosure (or adapter), and transfer your files to a backup drive or disk. That will conserve your valuable data in case you need to perform a restore using the restore disks.

I have a strange issue. I have a Lenovo T60 laptop and I am experiencing problems with the power management/power guage.

It will often show the battery not installed (power gauge is a greyish-white color with dashed lines) or it shows a red X. It does not matter if I am on AC power or on Battery power, it will show the full range of power, battery level, not installed, or an error.

I have searched Lenovo's site and I seem to remember seeing an FAQ about this, but now that I need it, I cannot find it.

What can I check or do to stop this? While it is annoying, I am not sure if I am having a battery problem or not. I did check my battery on Lenovo's site to see if it was recalled and it is not.

I do appreciate any help that any one can give me.

Thanks!
