S21e-20 trackpad stops working after installing Windows 10

Q: S21e-20 trackpad stops working after installing Windows 10

I installed Windows 10 and the touchpad is not working and I tried to install two different drivers (one from Lenovo site and one from Synaptics) and when I try to install, they both say that the touchpad doesn't even exist. So it's not installing the driver and I'm having to use external mouse for now. Is anyone else having this problem and what is a solution? Thank you.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hey guys, i'm stumped.
Laptop Info:
Toshiba Satellite L75D-A7283
Windows 8.1
Track pad doesn't work. All started randomly one day when I started the laptop up. Just didn't work. Now the keyboard will stop  working after about 10 minutes.
Things I've tried:
FN Key  + F5 (enable/disable trackpad)
Double tapping the top left corner of track pad.
Uninstalled all trackpad drivers, restarted, let windows install drivers.
Uninstalled all trackpad drivers, restarted, installed Toshiba Drivers
Checked BIOS for disabled Trackpad.
Lastly, reinstalled windows 8.
I got nothing. I'm stuck.
Any suggestions?

Received my new X1 Carbon 2014 this week. After only two minutes of use, the trackpad and toucphpad stopped working. I hade to use an external mouse, and even after all driver updates it still didn`t work. If I restart the machine, sometimes the track-touchpad will work, but suddenly it freezes up again (after only minutes of use), and I will have to restart to fix the problem. Have used it for 5 hrs now, and how probably restarted about 30-40 times.  Anyone know what is causing this problem and/or how I can fix it?     //alex

Hello there, I have this ThinkPad T440p where the trackpad mysteriously stops working after I put in in standby from the menu. However, it doesn't happen when it does go to standby by itself as per power management. Symptoms:When waken up from a manual standby, often the trackpad stop working. The mouse cursor doesn't move, and buttons are not active. Only the trackpoint can move the cursor, or an external mouse. The screen brightness buttons also stop working. In Device Manager, no peripheral is reported as malfunctioning, and even trying to switch settings in the Trackpad preference pane does not help. Why is this computer having such an annoying bug?

HI All I am in need of help please i have a X1 Carbon that was Recently purchased for a user at our office. But as you can tell from the subject of this topic the touchpad and trackpad stops working working after a few minutes of working on the machine.  I used Lenovo System Update to update all the drivers to the latest version and this was not successfull, I then tried a reinstall  of windows and the manually downloaded the driver from lenovo website and installed it but still no luck. I have checked and they are not disabled in the Bios and they are not and the Bios is on the latest version I have also tried to let it run on the windows driver that downloads from windows but also it stops working. from what it looks like the trackpoint and touchpad disable cause when i go into the mouse properties the option to enable them both is greyed out i then log on as the local admin to see if it is a permission thing but it is also greyed out. This happens regardless if the machine is on battery or plugged inThis user travels  alot and needs them both to be working.  I came across the below forum but i dont see much of a response from lenovo.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/X1-Carbon-touchpad-and-trackpad-stops-working...

At several occasions now, my trackpad two-finger-scrolling stops functioning as it should after some time of using the system. It seems the gesture is still recognized, but it is handled incorrectly: rather than scrolling 'within' the selected window, the whole window seems to 'bounce' indicating I can't scroll any further. Scrolling with an external mouse works fine, as does scrolling with the touchscreen, as does moving the mouse to the scrollbar and click-dragging.
I have updated all latest drivers, except the BIOS which is on A06 since I do not want to upgrade it (yet) since the higher versions currently cause the screen's brightness to flicker. Unless this BIOS is known to address these issues (not listed in the details) I do not see a reason to upgrade it (again).
Worth noting is that this issue only seems to arise after some time of using the system (possibly after a few sleep sessions?).

My thinkpad X1 Extreme has been giving me trouble. I could really do with some advice from someone clever.
(1) When I run Lenovo Vantage my trackpad stops working. I need to restart before it will work again.
(2) It doesn't recognize some usb peripherals (which work fine with other machines)
So I used Windows restore - no change.
I download recovery software - not an easy task but after going through 4 clueless customer service people I found a guy who told me how to get past a web-glitch - and restore to original factory.
After restpre to Factory - Lenovo Vantage still borks the trackpad
The USB peripheral in question still won't work
And now there a pink tint to text whenever I scroll. It makes working in Word really annoying.
Is there any way I can fix these things? I have veyr little faith in lenovo support. I do have on site next day warranty but again, my trust level with Lenovo support is very low. I'm a little past the 30 days in which I can return and tbh I love the machine  so want to keep if possible.
Any advice? Did I just get a lemon? Is Lenovo Vantage freezing trackpad a common issue? Is the pink text while scrolling a color calibraton issue that can be fixed? Should I bite the bullet, call customer service again and try to set up a repair?
Thanks so much for any advice!

"HP Pavilion dv6-2157wm Entertainment Notebook PC"

Here's the list of things I've tried and I'm not sure what else to do:
sfc /scannow
chkdsk C: /f
Updated the BIOS
Uninstalled Synaptics driver, re-installed newest version
Uninstalled Synaptics driver, tried letting Windows Update install driver
Generic USB drivers are not allowed to be turned off to save power
"Hard Reset," unplugging A/C and battery and holding power button for 30 seconds
Tried safe mode; no avail
Looked for FN keys to turn it on/off, there are none
Tried pressing the button above the trackpad to turn it on/off; light just stays white
Here's a picture of the light:

I don't know what else to do. I've been told to try to take the hard drive out and look under it, there could be a loose wire that attaches to the back of the trackpad. But before I dive into taking the computer apart, I just wanted to eliminate all of my options. Maybe there's something I'm missing that someone else will be able to point out with no issue.

Here's a picture of the Mouse > Synaptics tab:
...actually as I'm typing this, for the first time, I received an error saying, "Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver, Do you want to uninstall the driver now?" (That's the first time this has happened.)

Here's a picture of device manager:

There are no errors/exclamation points.

This has been a problem that I've been having since the original trackpad driver Lenovo put out when Windows 10 was officially released.  I've seen other people mention they have the same problem, but there's still no solution.  Problem: After the Yoga S1 goes to sleep or hibernates, the trackpad doesn't work.  The cursor doesn't show up on the screen until I move the TrackPoint or if I have an external mouse connected.  The only thing thing functional is the trackpoint and physically pushing the trackpad for right and left click.  Gestures, tap to click, etc. do not work.  The problem has been consistent with every driver version up to and including the latest that Lenovo put out on 9/7.   The only way to get the trackpad working again is to uninstall the synaptics driver, reboot, reinstall driver, reboot again.  Probem returns after waking up the computer after going to sleep or hibernate.   I'm forced to use driver version directly from synaptics.  The trackpad works perfectly, but the right and middle buttons (at the top of the trackpad) for the trackpoint do not work since it's just a generic driver.   Lenovo has put out at least two new drivers since this problem has popped up  and others have complained about it on this forum and still hasn't been fixed.

A:Yoga S1 Trackpad still stops working after waking from sleep/hibernate with latest driver

Same problem  even with latest driver as of March 2018.  Bios updated to latest version.  Windows 10. had the MB changed twice.  Lenovo will be replacing trackpoing/track pad.  So frustrating.

Since I had forgotten which specific key was needed to get into the bios, I wasrapidly pressing all of the F keys. The end result was this menuu which is clearly different from the others.
I didn't change any of the options but I know that some users have looked for them in the past.
I took images of some of the menus, but after restarting, I can't seem to get backinto the less stripped down bios menu (just the basic one). (I did this a few days ago, and since then I have been unable to figure out the proper keys or find much info online about it)
Aside from random conbinations, has anyone figured out the exact key combination to get into the more detailed bios menu?
I added the images I took to an imgur album. Sorry for the poor quality, but overall, there is a more detailed bios menu available, but I can't seem to find much info on getting back into it.

A:Mouse Scroll Wheel stops working after installing Windows 7 Driver

Hello WaterBottle and welcome to Seven Forums.

If you have access to another machine you could try plugging your mouse in and see if it works. If it doesn't the mouse might need replacing.

You could also make sure your mouse has the latest driver. (Although these instructions were originally written for Vista they will also work for Windows 7.)

I have removed the original Win10 and reinstalled from scratch Win8.1 Pro on my Dell xps 13 9350. I have downloaded all the possible drivers from the official "Dell driver download" page and run them all in the order suggested. Also the BIOS is updated. However, there are still several devices not recognized: 1. There is no Win8.1 driver for the trackpad. The one of Win10 is not compatible with Win8.1, so the trackpad is currently recognized in the device manager as PS/2-compatible. Moral: the scroll function does NOT work!! 2. Under "other devices" I get two "PCI data acquisition and signal processing controller" icons and one "unknown device" flagging "there are no compatible drivers for this device" 3. After installing the latest drivers (February updates -not sure which one in particular created the problem) I now get also under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" and icon with "Standard SATA AHCI Controller" flagging "this device cannot start. (Code 10)" While I can live with 2. and 3., the issue 1. with the trackpad is VERY annoying, and it would be great if Dell would provide a driver for it (btw., this model is now more than 3 months on the market). PS: the February update seems has fixed part of the problems with the WiFi and with mouse. I could solve them temporarily in January by installing other drivers of another model (Dell xps 15 9550), in particular these two: Communications_Driver_G1... Read more

A:Dell xps 13 9350 downgrade windows 8.1, trackpad not working and other issues.

Hope this helps for items 1 and 2, not sure about item 3...
For item 1, have you tried using the Windows 7 touchpad driver?  Download link below.  When you run the downloaded Dell Update Package, choose Extract (not Install), and create a folder to extract the files.  Then right click Setup.exe, choose Properties, then click the Compatibility tab, and then check the Compatibility box and choose Windows 7.  This should allow the driver to install successfully.
For item 2, you'll need to install the Serial I/O driver, which isn't listed for Windows 8.1, but you can find it in the Dell Driver Pack for Windows 8.1, link below also.  You'll need something like 7zip to extract the CAB file, but you'll find the driver buried in there.  Once you have the driver pack extracted to a folder, you can go into Device Manager, then right click the PCI Data Acquisition device, then choose Update Driver. Then choose Browse, and point it to the extracted folder and make sure include subfolders is checked.  The driver should then install.

I recently bought a Lenovo ThinkPad L380 directly from Lenovo. Is a solid laptop with great specs and battery life, however the trackpad starts skipping, feels unresponsive and jitters. This happens consistently and on every time I use the laptop from more than 5-10 minutes.I've tried all of the following with no solution:1. Reinstalling drivers from Lenovo site2. Changing charger cable (this was recorded actually in battery power, so happens both connected and not connected to power)3. Disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it again.4. Powering off the laptop, holding the power button for 60 seconds then powering it back again.5. Changing the settings for sensitivity6. Disabling the track-pointI was wondering what would cause that and if I should just return the laptop and get another one with a non-defective trackpad.

Well I woke up this morning, booted up my PC, only to watch it pass the windows login right onto my Desktop and reboot. It did this about 3 times straight before I decided I should probably reformat.

So I go to reformat and everything goes smoothly until I get to the installation process, RIGHT after the format. It goes to 78% percent and tells me that it cannot install a certain file. It gives me the option to skip the files, retry installing it, or exit the installation. When I skip it, it says this for the next million files that were after it.

I thought it was the CD but Ive gone through 3 different Window CDs and none of them seem to work. Someone said boot from the MS Boot Floppy Disk, but that would only format the drive. Then Id have to use the CD to install which is where the problem is. Is the problem my CD Drive? I tried using the CD drive and the CD-R drive and they both do the same thing. Any help at all would be GREATLY appreciated.

I have recently been having an odd error with my computer. Recently, I decided I would upgrade the graphics card in my computer at home. I bought a Radeon 4670 and installed it in the computer just fine (it was replacing a Geforce 9400 GT) and got everything up and running. However, I decided after playing games a little that I wanted to see if I could get any more out of the graphics card and so used the ATI Overdrive feature that comes with the Catalyst Control Center. This seemed to freeze, so I rebooted as the application suggests if this occurs, to reset the clock speeds. However my problem began here... the computer would just freeze at the Windows XP logo splash screen, a couple of bars would pass and then it would just stop. This would also be accompanied by beeping noises that appear to be coming from the motherboard.

I tried a number of things to remedy this. Firstly, the computer boots fine in safe mode and if there are no graphics drivers installed. I tried doing a clean install of Windows XP, using older driver versions, sending the graphics card to be replaced but all to no avail. Everything is fine until I install the drivers and then this freezing and beeping hits in. I tried another ATI graphics card as well (a 4550 I believe) and the problem still persisted. I have a feeling that it may be a motherboard related issue... but I'm not too sure what would have happened.

Any help would be greatly appreciated .

I have been having major issues lately with my HP Pavilion DV6t laptop running Windows 7 Professional. The computer is about 2 years old and has had no issues up until about two weeks ago. At the time, I started to have trouble loading windows 7. The OS would often fail to load and generate a blue screen error and reboot itself before the windows loading screens had completed cycling through. Afterwards, the PC would typically fail to start if I rebooted it again and instead prompt me to run windows repair and/or system restore. At first, running those utilities would fix the issue and the computer would work again for a day or two. However, I found that these problems would just start up again soon afterwards and that I was eventually unable to start up windows at all.
At this point, I was even unable to even boot up safe mode. The drivers for safe mode would start to load but then the loading sequence would eventually freeze up and nothing would happen (often the computer would just crash after a few minutes). After the PC tried to prompt me to do system repair a few times after crashing or producing a BSOD error, it eventually would not work anymore and I would have no way to access windows. It would also not let me conduct system restore after going through the routine of not loading windows a few times.
After I got to this point, I decided to just go ahead and reformat the whole computer and ... Read more

I recently started getting very annoying problem. Firefox or other program stops responding and alt+ctrl+del stops working at the same time so I have to reboot. It happens quite often.

What I did already:
*Maybe virus? Full boot time system scan with Avast anti-virus. Nothing found.
*Oh well reinstall windows again... Yes, I did that too. Still same problem BUT ONLY after small break like two days or so.
And most confusing thing is that full screen programs like games do not seem to stop responding. Still, they BSOD like after few hours, but I do not think it is related. Like heavy load or something.

My system details hopefully in my forum profile, at least filled them recently.

So any other ideas how I can fix that?

Randomly (or at least I cannot find consistency) Windows will stop working. It will ask me to force stop but I cannot click it because it is frozen. Any open programs will work, if I try to open task manager it wont, and when I Ctrl+Alt+Delete and go to restart it completely freezes up. The last thing I installed was BitDefender, I do not know if that is the cause but I can try uninstalling and going back to Avast. Other things that I have done recently is using Evenghost and the tasker plugin for chrome, I have been remotely putting my PC to sleep and waking, however it has been waking on its own (in which case I have it set to constantly sleep) not sure if the constant sleeping of my PC is causing the error.

I have tried to give all the events that have occurred since my PC was working correctly. Any support files you need I will obviously provide. I am running a malware scan and virus scan.

A:Windows xp just stops working

Well, lets start with what you should consider:

- all auto updates turned off

- port forwarding enabled for that site

- firewall set to allow unhindered traffic back and forth to that site

- graphics acceleration set down a notch (as a check on that)

- audio acceleration set down a notch (as a check on that)

- most all other programs turned 'off' (msconfig, startups)

Let us see the dumps that you've made of explorer.exe If they're too large to upload here - upload them to a free file hosting service and post a link to them here.

Also, please provide us with this info even though you're not experiencing BSOD's: http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...tructions.html

Hi all, I have Vista Basic Home on my HP Compaq Presario C500. It came pre-installed. I am the only person on this laptop. I am having trouble with Windows Explorer stopping right in the middle of most anything I'm doing. Internet activity, puter runs fine, offline while I'm trying to move files is when it usually stops. I am trying to get all of my photos into DVD size files so that I can burn them. Cant do that without Windows Explorer stopping. I read in help files that I could re-install only the OS and not lose any of my programs and the such, I thought cool. When I attempt to do so, I am rejected for security reasons. I am the only one on the puter, so by default one user has to be admin. Please help me. I know only enough to be dangerous under the hood of this thing.
My objective is:
To remove all of my photos to a safe place, thus freeing up my harddrive.
If I do the complete wipeout, then I have to go through the trouble with MS Office registration.
My previous laptop had to be wiped out several times, thus causing me to re-register with MS Office ( you only have several times to do this, as you all are aware of I know, just making my case)
When I first tried to burn a DVD of my photos with the Roxio software that was prebundled with the puter I never got to complete the project because of the Windows Explorer crashing. Meanwhile I have no where else to transfer my photos but into a laptop that holds them just fine, but I cant do the burn thing.

I decided to try and install my ps3 controller as a joystick, and after trying and failing with various methods (probably b/c I'm on 64bit) I decided to restart my computer, navigate the grub loader and start windows 7, all of a sudden all usb devices stop working (especially HID's). I've been googling for hours, and can't find a situation close enough to mine that fixes it. I know it's driver related as I can still navigate the bios menu, grub l loader and ubuntu perfectly fine. In safe mode it freezes as it loads classphp, then the keyboard and mouse LED's shut off. No error messages, just dead inputs (wacom included)
from what I found all I need to do is go to the device manager and uninstall the drivers, however, without having PS/2 inputs this is not possible.

Can I delete / un-install / move these drivers in ubuntu manually allowing for a normal start up and a windows automatic driver install? if so what drivers and what locations would need to be snuffed to accomplish this?

Using the windows disc I tried restore, but it's giving me a memory cannot be read error before rebooting, I was able to copy the drivers from the windows disc to the hard drive before starting up ubuntu and replacing them in the system32 folder, but to no avail. I also updated the BIOS to the most current version, with no change, I'm starting to think it's a registry value or something. I've been working on this computer going on 10 hours, and all progress has been sideways or backwards. I'm open to any ideas. if I can't fix it by the end of the work week, I'll probably have to manually back up everything through ubuntu and reformat (because "fun" is over-rated)

After upgrading to Windows 10 the Mousepad stops working every now and then. It's "fixed" by restoring the driver back to the previous version and then upgrading it to the latest version. The problem however keep reoccuring. Can anyone help me with it? It's quite a pain in the behind.  Cheers, Dinnis

I recently used Task Manager to close a non-responsive process on my Windows Vista Business SP2 laptop. Unfortunately, while attempting to do this, I mistakenly closed the wrong process (not sure which one) and shortly thereafter got a "blue screen of death."

Upon rebooting, I'm unable to access the internet (browser window opens and resulting "IE cannot display this page"); however, I have confirmed my wireless connection is 'good'.

Additionally, I've noticed Windows Firewall is not on. When I attempt to start the service I get dialog box saying "Windows Firewall stopped working". The dialog box then closes and is followed by another saying "Host Proces for Windows Services stopped working and was closed."

I originally posted this thread under Vista support forum; someone suggested computer may have a virus or malware and advised me to post in this forum. I ran MalwareBytes and it found no issues.

Hoping someone can help. Thanks!

Hello and welcome to TSF.

We want all our members to perform the steps outlined in the link given below, before posting for assistance. There's a sticky at the top of this forum, and a

link at the top of each page.

Please follow our pre-posting process outlined below. Use a USB flash drive to download and transfer the tools to the affected machine, if necessary. You might like to run the Flash_Disinfector.exe on the clean machine and the flash drive first to protect against any possible transfer of infection via USB.

Hi. Happy New Year! I have been having this problem with my daughter's Lenovo Y550 system since it was new. I just upgraded it to Windows 7 hoping it would fix the problem, but no luck. Here's what's happening:

we plug in a sandisk thumb drive to either usb port and it registers fine in device manager. When I plug in either an iPhone 3gs or a Seagate FreeAgent external drive, the computer doesn't know it's there. I have scoured the internet and tried several things including, reinstalling iTunes, deinstalling all of the ports and hubs under Universal Bus support in device manager and letting drivers reload on startup, booting from the device menu (PF12 on startup), The USB drives have been replaced, the iPhone has been replaced, etc. Here's the really strange thing: sometimes, one of the above will work and the devices will be clearly recognized. I can plug in and out..no problem. Once the system is either restarted, cold started, or hibernated, the devices are once again not recognized. I don't mean it doesn't know what they are, but rather doesn't even know I have plugged anything in!

We originally thought it was hardware and replaced drives. Then thought it was Vista, took off service pack 2 (which supposedly had a lot of problems), finally upgraded to Windows 7. Nothing has gotten any better.

It almost seems like something is getting overlaid during the startup after it's been fixed by one of the efforts above.

Most of the time when I right click on a folder either in C: or F: which is a Seagate aux drive, Explorer stops working (drop down window message "Windows Explorer stopped working" and next message "W Explorer restarts"). I have to start Explorer again from the Taskbar. It means that I do not get a context window with "Delete", "Rename" or even "Properties" etc on it's menu.

Now, other threads in this forum, or a large search on Internet, did not give any explanation. This is a particular case of WE stopped working, and despite there are lots of infos on right click of context menus even with WE, they don't address this special case. I investigated the registry as well, the best I found references to some utilities, but those all say that I should delete certain registry items one by one and see what helps. I believe this approach is most dangerous and I don't like to mess with the registry.
Any ideas? Thanks.

A:Windows 7 Explorer stops working

I've never owned a laptop but I'm wondering if the C: drive could be in power saver mode. I'm thinking if there's a lag between right clicking on a drive, and the drive being spun up to respond, Explorer might crap out. If there's a method to set the C: to always be spun up, as a diagnostic.. I would advise setting it this way. If Explorer acts normally for C: in that case, you might be on track toward a solution. If not, then we can rule out that theory.
