Updated Version 1511 to anniversary update, 1607, but still at 1511

Q: Updated Version 1511 to anniversary update, 1607, but still at 1511

Hello all.
Running windows 10 pro 64 bit.
I've updated from Version 1511 to the anniversary update, 1607.
Or at least, I thought I did.
The update went well, no hiccups, no errors. Used windows update, let it downloaded and install and rebooted. Alas, system still shows OS Version 1511.
Used update again, same thing, rebooted, 1511.
Went to the windows site, downloaded the windows10upgrade9252.exe, ran it, same exact issue, rebooted, still showing version 1511.
Error logs show no issues. Disabled all external drives, turned off anti-virus, etc, repeated, rinsed, rebooted, still version 1511.
Only think I've not done is burned an ISO to DVD and updated from that.
Any clues as to what's going on?
Thanks!
Nelson Davis

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Microsoft still hasn?t released the Anniversary Update to Windows 10 Mobile users, but that doesn?t mean they?ve completely forgotten about their smartphone customers. Today, according to Windows Central, Microsoft has released an update to production Windows 10 Mobile users that pushes the non-Insiders version to Build 10586.545.

Windows 10 Mobile gets a pre Anniversary Update release, to 10586.545

Updates are cumulative, with each update built upon all of the updates that preceded it. A device needs to install the latest update to remain supported.

I have Windows 10 Pro Version 1511, OS Build 10586.589.

Windows continually attempts to download and install the anniversary upgrade.
The download completes, but the installation fails with error code 0x800700c1.
This has happened more than 50 times.
(As appears quite common, I have never experienced an update error before.)

I have tried every suggested fix I can find - nothing works.
I have tried installing from 1607 ISO - fails
I have tried installing using Windows10Upgrade28084.exe - fails
I have tried letting Microsoft Support have a go - fails

I am unable to find the meaning of the error code above, so there seems to be no way to effect action here.
Does anybody have any knowledge on this one?

I installed Windows 10 around the time it came out, much to my delight I faced no problems with it, but now after reading about this 'November Update' that touts many of the features I wanted back. I read on Microsoft's own site that to get the update I would have to of had Windows 10 for 31+ Plus days e.g. a day over the time limit to go back to Win 8.1 or 7. It's long past the 31 days but the "Go back to Windows 7" is still there?

I have Windows 10 Pro, Version 1511. I've not updated to Version 1607 because of FUD regarding the NVIDIA drivers. Starting a couple of days ago, just after a Windows update, I have a 1511 problem: when I boot up, the displays (I have 4) blink at seemingly random times, and also power on and off at strange times. I wait but never see Windows fully loaded.

I read somewhere that F5 was the key to use to go into safe mode (I remain unsure about the veracity of that claim). But, in desperation, I tried the F5 key: it didn't appear to go into safe mode, and booted up normally, giving me a clean system.

I suspect this is a device driver problem: should I go to NVIDIA's website and just download the latest device driver? I've had NVIDIA problems on various platforms starting about six months before the original RTM release, and all three of my Windows 10 platforms have NVIDIA display adapters.

Good morning everyone! My updates show that 1511, 10586 is ready and will install after a restart. Well after it restarts it does nothing at all. Just restarts normally. Ive tried every possible guide and solution I could find, including applying the update from a full offline installer, nothing works.

I would change it back and then see if you are then able to install the update.
If it still does not do it then you can always revert back to what you changed
Remember before you do create a restore point.

A:Still can't update to windows 10 Home, version 1511, 10586.

You had been using Windows Update which you have failed to install 10586.

Consider trying the other method also recommended by Microsoft itself.
Download the Media Creation Tool (MCT)

Make sure you select the same language, same bit version and same Windows Edition as the one you are now running.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

Once it is downloaded, run the Tool > select Create installation media for another PC.
That will begin downloading the ISO file to your computer.
When it is downloaded, right click at the ISO file > click Mount > click Setup.exe.
That will begin installing.
You have the choice of keeping your settings, files and apps, or keeping nothing.
No product key is required.
Activation is automatic.

I just upgraded my Win 10 machine to "Threshold-2" version 1511. All went smoothly! But it added 10GB to the hard drive storage used.

I presume this is due to the ability to "roll back" to the prior version (I have no Restore Points because that feature is disabled).

If I'm willing to commit to version 1511 and do not need to preserve the ability to roll back, is there a way to reclaim this space? I know one way is to do a "reset," but that wipes all my apps, requiring a reinstall, which is a pain. Is there a better/easier way?

As I understand it Win10 1511 10586 is more or less an upgrade over 10240 and as such there may be a Windows.old Folder on your HDD. Four of my computers had that after the same Folder left over from Win7 and Win8.1 were deleted. Might try disk cleanup, may get rid of it. Or simply wait 32 days to see if it automatically deleted.

Hey all,

Despite having cleaned out temporary files, previous windows installation files, and anything else unnecessary, I could only get about 7-8Gb of free space, which proved insufficient for Windows to update to version 1511.

It suggested using an external drive to handle the update files, so I put in a 64Gb microSD card. Despite selecting this, however, it still can't update. It goes from asking for ~8.9Gb extra free space on C:/ to ~8.3Gb.

There's got to be some way for these 32Gb eMMC to handle Windows updates, surely?

A:Satellite Click 10: Cannot apply Windows Update to version 1511

Did you format the SD card ? You have to format it on the machine first . search, formatting SD card windows 10. Best to put in a spare SD card and later keep this card as it will have a copy of your update on it for future resets . Then pop in another good SD card for future storage, but some apps etc wont go to it, but you can get them to do so. search, getting your apps to store and operate on external drives. Don't use any other antivirus package except the built in windows defender, it is specially light in size and wont use up much storage and it will protect you well enough. You can safely delete all Toshiba stuff that comes with it to make room. also there is so many things on windows 10 you can do without search stuff you don't really need windows 10.

I have a Windows 10 system upgraded from Win7. Windows Update failed on this recent cumulative update. The web has lots of hits about this. After trying a number of fixes, the following worked for me:

1. I went into Disk Management and saw that my System Reserved Partition was 100MB vs the minimum recommended (according to some sites) of 400MB.

2. I used MiniTool Partition Wizard (free edition) to resize the System Reserved Partition to 450MB. That required burning a CD from a downloaded ISO.

3. Since the Windows update failed again, I deleted the contents of C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download (I did NOT delete the DOWNLOAD folder itself, just the contents)

4. BINGO! The update installed.

Hope this helps someone else who may have this problem.

MS made me update a couple of days ago. I just discovered this morning that it disabled Norton 360. It also removed CCLeaner, and turned off my Norton firewall. I have to reauthorize some other products but my main problem is that I don't know if I have antivirus anymore..
I try to turn Windows Defender on and it tells me that it is off but I have no option t turn it on. Norton wont open, is no longer on the bar at the bottom but is listed in "APPs", but like I said, wont open.
I tried to reinstall but I get a popup in the lower right telling me that Norton 360 wont run on this version of Windows.
It comes free with Comcast/Xfinity and has always worked well, until now. I did manage to turn the Windows firewall on. I set the default browser to EDGE, which I DO NOT like because it rearranges all of my favorites.
I cannot find an answer. I am just about ready to move to a MacBook for regular use. I have an offline computer for audio work. I have not upgraded it to W-10 and frankly I'm scared to. It has no antivirus because it has no email and very limited online use... ok, I digress.
What do I do to get Norton Working?
I posted the question on the Xfinity board and will on the Norton forums.

Thanks for any help.

I fixed it, took most of the day. I finally rolled back to the earlier version of Windows. CCleaner came back BUT I checked, Norton had not scanned my system since 9/29/15!!! Prior to that it was scanning regularly I had not noticed. I am NOT happy with Windows-10. I've about had it. I'm about ready to get a MacBook for the web and keep my DAW on Windows. I hardly ever go online with it and it doesn't have anything on it except recording programs, Acronis, and a few other things.
I feel like dealing with MS is like dealing with the government, I just don't like the whole attitude of "WE Updated Your PC".. They shuld have said "You Updated Your PC"... small things like that matter, it shows their arrogance... and my files were NOT right where I left them.

One day I forgot to turn the update services off, so I got the Anniversary one. Hated it. How can Microsoft change the look, change most setting, install loads unwanted apps ? and all that against my will, permission or knowledge? It must be illegal......

This is ridiculous ? how can they get away with it? Anybody I know is fed up with forced updates (and worse - upgrades), most people on the net ? as I read ? hate it.

So fed up.

So I went back, and want to stay there.

In that just a little touch would suffice: Windows would offer it?s users Upgrade with????..

?we made a new version, looks a bit different, we will default all your settings (don?t forget to change them back), and we will install a lot of unwanted apps (yes, those you spent hours uninstalling). But we added new stuff, so we think it?s worth the hassle??.I you want it, click here. If not, clik here?. Job done.

Back to the question. Can I keep 1511 and do occassional updates (when I choose to do so), or will they keep forcing 1607?

Does anyone have an HP Pro 3515 Desktop that will take the new Windows 10 Anniversary Update Version 1607 ? My HP 3515 works fine with the previous windows 10 version 1511, but will not update to ver 1607. I notice that HP has not currently tested HP 3515 for the latest update. Any help, or comments ?

Hi,Firstly I'd like to clarify: I'm not working for any hardware or software vendor. Your printer/scanner had been working perfectly for few years or even decades and now it won't do anything or only few things because of a new Operating system.Microsoft, Apple will never say "Warning: Using this new product, your existing hardware may NOT work at all". They only say their new products will blah blah ....They promise everything then put all the unhappiness, blames to hardware vendors.I believe developing new products is much cheaper than supporting older products and each product must have a life cycle, it must die loudly or quietly and the Operating systems will kill our hardware quicker. Many people just upgrade for a sake of the "bleeding edge", never know and/or research what the existing investments at home will work or not.Just my 2 cents.

So I reinstalled my job-pc, Latitude E7250 from W10 v1511 to W10 1607. (Win10 x64 Enterprise)
Everything works fine except 2-finger-scroll, witch worked in 1511.
It often needs 2-3 tries before it works, and if I lift the fingers and try to scroll again it takes several more tries before it works.
There is only one driver for the touchpad, it is the same I had before the reinstall.
What to do about this?

A:Reinstalled W10 1511 --> 1607, problems with 2-finger-scroll

I don't know if I can help much but 1607 has been out for quite a while and another new build may be coming in the next few months.  Hopefully, your system has received all the updates.  The next time you reinstall, you are aware you can download the media from Microsoft and possibly Dell and have a later version to install.....
As far as I know, there is no touchpad driver from Dell.  I did a clean Win 10 1607 install on a new drive and the touchpad seemed to behave the same as it did with the OEM install.
There are settings for the Touchpad in Settings-Devices- Mouse & Touchpad.  You might check to see if any of those options help.  I do not know if you have a "Precision" touchpad or not.
On my system, I find it is best to place the fingers on the pad prior to initiating movement.  If I try to swipe it seems to delay the gesture.
I also have to be very careful not to allow the system to read a Tap movement since it seems just breathing on the touchpad can illicit a reaction.  ;)

Hello. Yesterday I received the last anniversary(?) update from Windows 10. From that moment an expensive program did'nt work anymore. The supplier advised me to press; start - setting - recovery - go back to earlier build.
That worked and now, instead of build 1607 I'm back to build 1511 and the pogram works again. Now this program will have an update to work under build 1607. How can I return to build 1607? Or will Windows just push it in after some time? Thanks!

A:How to return from Wind 10 build 1511 to 1607 after going back

Hello, you can try Windows update manually via Settings, Update. Or just wait.

You can also apply it manually by downloading the iso or creating a bootable medium (MS media creation tool) (just search or see the guide in the Tutorial section here).

It is worth keeping a Win 10 bootable medium to hand - it can be useful for certain repairs.

I have installed WIN10 (ver. 1511) a couple of months ago. While trying to solve a driver issue I've been advised (by MICROSOFT) to upgrade to ver.1607. Several upgrade attempts all failed (with code 0xd000009a) What does it mean? Any more details needed? How can I resolve this? Can't find any clue on the net for this code.

I have tried multiple times times to install the Windows 10 Pro, Anniversary Update to my desktop computer, a Dell Inspiron 560. Every time, the result has been a computer that will not start-up, ie. Windows does not appear to load/run. I have tried the WURepair tool and tried to repair the System Registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>Microsoft>Windows NT>ProfileList, all to no avail. I have had to restore my system with an previous Image to get it operational again. Has anybody else had this problem and been able to come up with an answer?

A:Trouble trying to install Windows 10 Anniversary Update, version 1607

Hello JRAllen72653 Welcome to the Ten Forums!

One advice I can provide here would be to try a different method for either update by upgrade or planned clean install which doesn't seem to be what you have been looking for. When the Redstone 1 update didn't even arrive here for 3 separate desktops as well as a recently new laptop where 10 came already on not seeing the update still lead to fail of the MC Tool to see the immediate online upgrade take place or create the usb media needed.

Twin solutions were then sought! The first in order to see all machines updated was to download the "windows.iso" by way of the MC Tool which equals both the 32bit and 64bit flavors for both the Home and Pro editions. We call that a "4 in 1" type of download that covers everyone.

The second item on the agenda did opt to use a 3rd party program not the Windows option to mount the iso downloaded onto each machine or run from a flash drive where the setup.exe main executable would be manually started to watch each upgrade install take place. Once all systems were set which included one desktop only lately being upgraded from 7 Home Premium to 10 Home and then still waiting for the update to go on before return to owner was to visit a MS download iso type page to grab both the 32bit and 64bit smaller Dual Edition iso downloads to keep onhand.

For a final fix to all older already made up flash drives for the Threshold 2 update last November as well as for Windows Insider P... Read more

Be kind, I'm more than a little stressed at the moment...
I did a stupid thing. When I upgraded all 5 computers here to Windows 10 several months ago, it went SO WELL I figured doing the November upgrade yesterday would be a snap. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Ran the Microsoft thing, got the ISO, put it on the flash drive, did the upgrade. It churned, and did it's thing and EVENTUALLY I got a blue screen where it said something about "apps". Waited. It'd periodically change and EVENTUALLY I got the screen about being back in a moment or just a moment or some such. Where it sat... After an hour or so I figured it was doing SOMETHING very slowly and decided I'd leave it for the night. Went to bed.

This morning, SAME screen still there. Figured it was having a problem and pressed a key on the keyboard. Blue screen disappeared and I was in the system. Except the system is now UNUSABLE.

I have a constant mouse pointer with blue circle indicating busy. I can RUN the Task Manager and it shows between 18 and 30% busy (depending on which time I reboot) but it never updates, and hitting "cpu" doesn't update and show me WHO'S using the cpu. Scrolling down, EVERYBODY is 0. wsappx is running, but I can't kill either the one service that it shows OR the task. I have no idea if that's the culprit.

I can't even shut the thing down clean... I can open the menu, I can hit power, but when I tell it to shut down it just sits there.

I've lost BOTH RAID 0 arra... Read more

It looks like it began after the update to 1511, but I'm not sure about that. Maybe it happened sometime earlier, since I don't use gpedit.msc too often. A computer with clean install of 1511 does not suffer from this problem.

Anyway, trying to run gpedit.msc now results in "Namespace 'Microsoft.Policies.Sensors.WindowsLocationProvider' is already defined as the target namespace for another file in the store" error message (reported twice).

After clicking OK in that message window, Policy Editor continues to work properly. Apparently we are looking at the same issue as the one described by Microsoft here

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3077013

Indeed, my policy store has both LocationProviderADM.admx and Microsoft-Windows-Geolocation-WLPAdm.admx, referring to the same namespace (no .adml files though).

Files at that location are protected and not immediately deletable and renamable. What would be the proper way of deleting and renaming these files? Restarting into repair console?

A:On updated to 1511 machines gpedit.msc reports namespace conflict

I noticed that also. I've been following the method 1 in your link so far (ignoring it)...
