Would it be a RAM or CPU issue causing an application lockup? When I run two online applications, one of them locks up. One uses 348 meg of memory [java Platform SE Binary] and the other uses 419 meg of memory [java].
The pc has 4gb of ram and 3 GHz cpu. Please advise.
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
A question about missing information, which version of JAVA are you running? You can go to java.com: Java + You and check if you have the latest. Also, what are the applications? Maybe someone else had the same problem.Read other 5 answers

Hi ..I am experiencing an odd phenomena, when using IE. Quite often when I go to a site (that is using java), I get a complete freeze..then after about 2 minutes the site viewing is normal again(can scroll, and click on links etc...)
I went to the control panel and looked into, "add/remove programs".
There, I seem to have a few java apps loaded..can I remove one or two?
Have Opera(the best browser around) and may have downloaded new versions with java..maybe that is where they all came from...:-(
Here are the three javas..

When I go to a page that has a chatroom, and certain other java-based web applications all I get is a little red "x".
I use IE 6.0, latest updates, and win xp home O/S. Under "tools", "options" there is no option to enable any sort of java console. Do I need to download some sort of plug in?
I cannot even get to the chat room on this site - it says I need a java-enabled browser but why isn't mine enabled?

Last 2 days Thursday and Friday, I have been having problems with TSG.
Every time I get on, my computer locks up and I have to hit the reset switch.
Today (Friday) it locked up, and when I reset the computer & things began to reload it stopped and said there was a "CMOS Checksum" error, and the date had reset to Jan. 1 1998 in the CMOS settings.
I reset the clock, restarted the comp, and while loading, Windows put a box onscreen to effect it was rebuilding a driver database (but not which one).
Is this caused by a Virus or perhaps something in one of the Java0type ads that IE5.5 can't handle correctly.
The problem first showed up when the ad re "Catch the Bouncing Ball!" showed up.
Time its taken me to type this in is longest time I've been able to use TSG since Wednesday nite.....

I'm having a bit of trouble using Java anywhere other than in a web browser. Java works fine in Firefox, I use it often, but it's been a while since I've run a standalone Java applet.
The problem is this: opening any standalone applet, even ones that worked before, simply produce a "Windows XP Critical Stop" error sound with no visual activity whatsoever. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Java many times, but it doesn't seem to change anything.
The applets work fine on an older computer with the latest Java, the same version as on the one with the problem, so it could be one of those well hidden configuration files or outdated .dll's. If you could help me it would be greatly appreciated.
When i start a Java application (not an applet) like through the .jar file, it does run. Like in the Task manager a new process called java.exe and javaw.exe appears, but then nothing happens. The application doesn't appear or anything. Just nothing happens further. It just starts Java and that's it.
This is very inconvenient, really nobody can help? :S
I am currently running WIndows XP Home SP2. This morning I could not get anything that uses Java to load. I have no idea what could be this problem seeing as all the Java apps worked last night.

Hello all. I have the latest version of java on a brand new fresh install of Windows Seven with all the available windows updates installed. I use several java based programs for work (From Nortel & Cisco) but they do not work properly. When I click to open any of these applications, they hang for a minute or two and eventually open, and then when they do open, they are completley sluggish and don't respond well. On my XP machine, these apps run instantly.
Is there anything else I can try??
make sure the JRE is the same level that your work requirements are - sometimes having the latest jre and sdk completely hozes up a system if you need to connect to corporate apps with several releases earlier.
Another get around is to run a small XP as a Virtual machine or try "XP Mode".
Until some of the corporate apps are on W7 older java apps could present a problem.
I connect to SAP via a "SAPGUI" which still needs an almost pre-historic level of the JRE 1.4.2 !!. Any later version and the whole app just randomly crashes.
I was just wondering if there were any programs that allowed you to copy Java applications onto you mobile phone. Before you used to be able to copy java applications onto your Motorola mobile using phone tools but apparently the newer models prevent you from doing so. Any suggestions?
Hello! I've got an issue with my forex platform which is written in java - whenever I open more than 2 chart windows their contents become corrupt in the following ways: the entire chart turns black and clickable elements come back into view when i move the mouse cursor over them (this doesn't happen all the time), the chart "flashes" the data from another chart every second or so, sometimes it displays the wrong data for a longer time before reverting to the correct contents.
I suspect it to be a problem with java because both platforms I use for trading forex are corrupted in the exact same way and the only thing they have in common is that they are java based. The problem started a few days ago when I have replaced my ancient x1900xt with a HD 5770 and plugged in my old 17" HP v72 crt for use as a secondary monitor (if it matters, it's connected via a vga to dvi converter).
I've tried putting my old x1900xt back in to see if it's caused by the graphics card but that didn't help. I've tried clearing java cache, removing java and rolling back to an older update (I'm using 6u23 now) but that didn't help. I've tried reinstalling the graphics card drivers and that didn't work either.
The one time I got the charts to work again was when I completely removed java, ran a registry cleaner, rebooted and installed java again while the secondary screen was disabled - it worked for a while, then I've extend... Read more
I've found out what the problem is by accident - it turns out that there is some sort of incompatibility between antialiasing and the java applications I am having problems with. I'm not sure if the problem applies to all graphics cards, only ATI cards or only my model, but the solution is to set the antialiasing setting in Catalyst Control Center to "use application settings". Boooooyakasha!
here is my problem:
I used to have a Sony Vaio laptop but it started not responding and freezing all the time...I ran a virus scan but everything came back clean. I tried to restore it to previous configurations or to restore it to factory settings and reinstall everything, but it wouldn't let me do it. The computer was old, so I thought it was just going out on me and bought a new laptop (HP).
I used a data cable so that the new laptop had the same data and configuration of the old one and everything seemed to work fine until yesterday, when the new laptop started having the same problems as the old one.
when I use firefox, it takes forever to load a page and the application is often not responding. I tried to use explorer instead, but with the same results.
Also when I try to use other applications, they freeze and start not responding as well.
I ran a virus scan with Avira antivirus (the free one) and it showed I had java/ddr.agent and 3 hidden objects.
It quarantined java/ddr.agent, but it didn't do anything with the hidden objects (I don't even know what they are).
Since it quarantined that .agent, it seemed to work better, until I used firefox again and everything (every application I open) started freezing and taking forever to open.
I tried restoring it to a previous configuration, but it's telling me that there isn't a restore point set, even if I remember setting one previously.
I read online that a lot of people had this problem wi... Read more

My desktop is Win7 64bit OS, Service Pack 1. I have dual monitors, one is hooked up via USB>VGA/DVI/HDMI adapter.
My problem is with opening Java applications, they always crash. I'm running Java 1.8.0, 32bit JRE, old versions are uninstalled, cache is cleared, etc. Same problem with other java versions, please believe me I tried them all. The only thing I haven't tied it uninstalling Java JRE and intalling JDK... but I really think its down to the computer, not Java. If the OS is 64bit does java have to be 64 as well?
I downloaded the game Minecraft because it uses Java and also produces a log before running. I will paste the relevant portion of the log below before the crash. After looking for solutions on the web, atioglxx.dll+0xb2b2 (see log) might have something to do with it. I tried to search for atioglxx.dll in Windows>System32 and found four hits. Right click on any one, properties>security and in the group/username field I have 'Everyone' and 'SYSTEM'. The permissions for 'Everyone' is 'read/execute' and 'read' while permissions for 'SYSTEM' are all checked, full control. I am unable to change permissions. Not sure if that has anything to do with it?
I have been looking at other sources on the web and possibility is graphics card is causing the problem. My graphics card is ATI Radeon HD 4550. Unfortunietly I have been unable to find its drivers online to update.

Now, I dont know which browser you have, so what I am going to do is transfer this thread to the Application's forum, and the brain-trust there will be able to help you further.

Windows 7 version: Ultimate x64 OEM (untouched leak back from July 22, 2009) with SERVICE PACK 1 INSTALLED
Computer is about 1 and 3/4 years old.
Latest Windows installation was Jan 10, 2011 but BSOD's started after that.
So basically I reformatted my PC, installed all the programs I needed etc and 2 days ago I finally got minecraft and I made a world where next to the spawn is a bunch of gold (literally 500 stacks of 64blocks) and then when MP to show my friend.
I then went to record it with fraps because my friend was lagging and disconnecting. I put the files into Sony vegas 10 pro (64bit) and started rendering and got a BSOD half way through. Rebooted, tried again, same thing.
I have had some other BSODs, rendering another video in vegas (although i was rendering 3 videos but only 1 had the problem), randomly on youtube and when loading speedtest.net, which was my latest BSOD (30min before post).
I have a feeling that the reason is some sort of problem with java, as my recent crash was from me loading speedtest.net and minecraft uses Java.
Core i7 920 @ 4.0GHz
3x2GB Kingston DDR3 1333
Gainward GTX 275
P.S. I BSOD'd while playing Robot Unicorn Attack
Before people comment (if they will :S), went into Device manager after reading the perfmon report and there were 2 unidentified devices with a failure. just installed the drivers and my pc hasnt comploded yet so maybe there was something wrong there. then again it might be a completely different which i have no idea about.

I'm having some issues with the proper display of some Java based applications. I use my Yoga 910 at the Windows recommended resolution of 3840 x 2160 and have it also set to scale the display of items to 300% which works quite well for most applications. However, for some reason some Java based applications simply do not scale the text making it practically impossible to use them without having to change the resolution and downgrade from 4K display. I've tried the same application on a different machine also with a 4K display, a Dell XPS 13 and it scales as expected, so it isn't likely the application. I suspect that it is somehow tied to my display adapter, but can't find a way troubleshoot this. Has anyone else run across this issue?Read other answers
I've been having lots of trouble with many common applications. I cannot run Java applets in my browser (neither IE nor Chrome), I can't open Adobe Acrobat Reader. Also, my computer frequently flashes a quick blue screen and the computer shuts off.

I was instructed to consult the Preparation Guide For Use Before Using Malware Removal Tools and Requesting Help.
While following the preparation guide, I seemed to be unable to turn on Windows Firewall. I posted the error messages I received in the topic I opened up (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/490694/java-and-windows-media-player-problems/). I was instructed to proceed with DDS.
When I ran DDS, I originally ran with both "dds.txt" and "attach.txt" checked. When I do this, the program hangs where it says "please wait..." I waited at least 30 minutes, and it was still handing.
When I run DDS with only attach.txt checked, it completes and I get a log file. Here is that log file;

certain software from different online poker sites. I play at one all the time and never had any problem but when I downloaded a couple of others my system occasionaly locks up. I have to unplug it and then take the battery out.
This problem has happened before. It happens when online sometimes and with an older game program that I run.
My Os is Windows 2000 w service pack 4. I have an IBM thinkpad with a 1.6GHz P4 w/ 261,040 kb ram. I have over 30 gig memory left on my HD.
generally on all lockups it is usually caused by corrupt video drivers. update the drivers or reinstall them.
About 3 months ago my computer just started randomly locking when I was running 3d games. I wasn't having any problem in the world running 2d games so I was thinking maybe the GPU or video card memory was overheating. So I pulled a fan and heatsink off an old 386 processor I had and fixed it to the GPU and still the same problem.
Since then I've tried using a TNT2 and swapped out or replaced all hardware except for the motherboard and processor. Even tried changing the power supply. All drivers are up to date. I've tried 3 different BIOS revisions. I've tried using at least 5 versions of the Nvidia detonator drivers (I keep them archived in case of problems like this.) It locks up if there's sound being used or sound completely off and if the sound card isn't even in the computer. I'm running DX8.1 and nothing changed, software or hardware, when the problem occurred.
Video card is not overclocked. AGP aperture set in BIOS to 64 meg. I've defragged the HDD recently. Happens with any 3d game no matter how low the settings for the game are set.
Common games being played: CounterStrike, Monkey Island 3, WC3, Ultima Online (3d Client) Q3
768 meg RAM
GeForce 2 GTS 32meg / TNT2 32meg (TNT2 for testing if it was the vid card)
34.6 Maxtor HDD
Asus A7V133 (not using the onboard RAID at the moment)
The last time this program would run to completion was last April. Now the screen freezes half way thru second test.
I formatted the hard drive last week--but still freezes.Using a GF6600gt with latest driver--also have had a "sync out of range " error.
Have you overclocked anything?
Try running MemTest, if the RAM is in the least bit dodgy it'll lock up every time.
I have a problem with my PC. Sometimes when I leave my computer on and leave it idle for a while and then come back to it the whole thing will be locked up. I can move the mouse around but as soon as I click something it will lock up and the time will be locked to the time when it had locked up. The whole thing basically locks up causing the green vista loading mouse circle to replace the pointer. The only way to shut it off is to hold down the power button for about 5seconds. Is this a hardware issue or a software issue? I'm boggled by this.
Specs are as follows:

Over the last few weeks, my PC has been having fits running slow, locking up, 1 BSOD (KERNEL.STACK_INPAGE_ERROR), stuttering sound, windows getting locked, mouse pausing and freezing, etc. It frequently requires hard boots as it won't respond to Ctrl-Alt-Delete. This happens in safe mode as well.
The CPU usage is often stuck at 100%, even with no applications running. I can't see any pattern to it. It can run fine for a few hours, then suddenly get stutter and lock up.
The only thing has changed recently is that a week or two before this started happening, the CMOS battery was giving error messages on reboots, so I replaced it. I have not been able to see anything wrong in the BIOS settings. Device Manager gives no errors.
I haven't seen any signs of malware, but just in case, I have attached the normal logs. I run ZoneAlarm Free and Microsoft Security Essentials. Virus scans have been negative. I also ran Lavasoft Ad-Aware, but it found nothing other than harmless cookies.
I have cleaned/vacuumed out the system (which I do regularly anyway). I removed and reseated all the cards and memory. I checked that all the fans were working.
I have run CleanUp! (also a normal thing on my routine maintenance). The disk is not fragmented. I removed what programs and autoruns I was sure about.
I ran Chkdsk and it fixed some file ... Read more

I've got a problem with my Win XP system. A few days ago after a program conflict and system crash I had to reinstall my DSL utility program/drivers/modem etc...
The installation went well except that something seems to be running now in the background. I can log onto the Web, communicate and run all programs, but there is a regular tone annunciating (sounds like when a USB device connects) a bonging sound which occurs regularly.
Because I thought that there was some sort of conflict I clicked on "Add Hardware Wizard" and got the following message.
"Cannot run two device installations.
You can install only one device at a time, another device installation is underway, when it is finished you can try the Wizard again."
This seems to be the problem....the system apparently is hung up trying to install a device and never can complete that task.
Is there some simple way to stop this process? and in turn turn off the constant tone.
Boot to safe mode and see if issue is still present. If the other device is not USB, then it should eventually install.
Also look in device manager and see if there are any bangs (? or !)

Hello oldLearner57,Welcome to Bleeping Computer. I'm new here too. I don't know much about computers, but hopefully this information will help you out a bit. Click here to download Process Explorer. It will show you all the processes that are running, it will also show you information about which DLLs and handles processes have opened or loaded, how much memory the processes are using, and the amount of CPU usage each process is taking up. It's like Task Manager, but it gives you much more information. Also Click Here to find a list of freeware programs that will help you, along with Free AV software to help you find out if there are any viruses on your computer, if you already don't have an anti virus program. You should also consider downloading another Firewall from that list because the Windows Firewall only provides you with so much security. read thisTake Care!Read other 7 answers
Hi - got a major problem with my partners laptop which probably has a very simple solution.
Yesterday it while booting up it came up with a message asking if he wanted to start Explorer. THinking it meant Internet Explorer he said no. SInce then regardless of what we try no application will start up on his computer.
My Computer works fine and you can navigate through the c drive
It is a DELL Inspiron 2200 Pentium M
Is there a simple fix to this? or a complex one maybe

Try running GMER in safe mode. If GMER crashes or keeps resulting in a BSODs, uncheck Devices on the right side before scanning.Read other 3 answers
Recently IE8 keeps freezing up on my computer. When I go to processes in the task manager, I have multiple instances of "iexplore.exe" running. Most of the instances appear to be trying to connect to "a96-6-188-20.deploy.akamaitechnologies.com". The specific IP Address is: 22.214.171.124.
Is this a virus, malware, etc.? I tried running malwarebytes and that came up empty.
My computer, a HP Pavilionzv6000 laptop with Win XP, runs slower that it used to. I don't know how many programs are running that don't need to be running. I may have a virus because every time the AVG program runs, it finds a virus. Sometimes it can't fix the problem so I put it in the vault. I have the Zone Alarm firewall set on High. Also, often the computer just locks up and ai have to disconnect the power cord, and remove the battery to reboot it when no keystroke functions.

It first started with any game I tried to play, the monitor just blinked off and an "signal out of range" notice popped up. No game works, not even one on Steam. Then when I was on the web, the mouse stopped working in one dimension, usually the vertical, and a few seconds later the monitor did its thing. Now, when working in MS WORD the monitor just blinks off.
Monitor is a ViewSonic ViewPanel VG150B; eight years old so it has given me all I paid for and then some -- my suspicion is that the problem is the monitor but I am not sure.

After Windows loads, all of my programs are loading so slow and running really slow. Some even lock-up and I need to use Task Manager to stop them running?
I have ran MalwareBytes and CC Cleaner through the system but to no avail?
I have ran System Restore and restored to a previous time but, again, no joy?
All help appreciated
Try running this tool to help cleans things up. During install choose "Save As" to the Desktop.

Hope this helps,
I am running Windows XP Professional and my laptop frequently runs very slowly.
Rebooting, sometimes helps for a short while, but the problem remains.
When I restart, the system states that there is 1 program running, but in Task Manager no Applications are showing.
I run CCleaner weekly, and have checked and defraggd the hard drive, also, have removed as much as I dare from the program list and Start Up menu, but this has not solved the problem.
Can you let me know how I can find out what program is running, as I probably need to remove it.

I am having problems troubleshooting a friends computer:
He was having problems with Win 2000 system: it was giving error messages, and rebooting...
I had him turn off the reboot/error feature, however he is now getting the following message
it asks with every application "what program do you want to open with"
When he tries to access the internet, the message is "i.e. don't you trust this source"
It also does not seem to like links or shortcuts
The computer is a Pentium 2 233 with 96K ram.
I wondering if it is a memory problem, but am out of ideas.
I got some problems with some applcations.
For instance, i have a uTorrent problem. I install the application, works fine for 10 minutes, then when i try to open utorrent it won't open. No error message, no nothing, just won't OPEN dosen't matter how many times i double click the .exe. I opened task manager and the process it's gone so i really don't know what could be the problem. On the officla forum of utorrent they say it's a windows 7 problem but for some people it works. I even tried run as administrator, run compatibility, i even give myself OWNER on utorrent and won't work. And what is strange is that i can't uninstall the program from control panel only if i remove it completlty from registry. (i even tried a CLEAN uninstall then CLEAN INSTALL and the same strange problem).
Ok you would say it's a utorrent problem but it's not. I installed another application, a uninstaller to remove utorrent completly but not even the uninstaller it's RUNNING. i mean it's the same problem, the uninstaller tool worked fine 5-10 mins then when i try to open it...it won't open.
And another strange problem with STEAM. Kinda same, every time i open STEAM it is UPDATING STEAM PLATFORM and very slowly..1% / minute.
This reply represents only my personal opinion, and I take full responsibility of what I say. As a quite new member my self, I have no authority to speak on behalf of anybody else, least the forum owners and admins.
That said, in my opinion this really is not a right forum to discuss torrents, P2P applications and any problems users have to use them.
Please use other forums to discuss this type of problems.
a few days ago my card began to crash my laptop 3 minutes or so into any of my 3d games. I've tried updating to the latest drivers and system restores, and this solves nothing - games suddenly sputter, die and cause a restart. I'm beginning to suspect it might be the hardware, but i really hope it isn't.
I've attached the required zip below
i also ran driver verifier and did get a bluescreen on startup, with the stop code
please help! Thank you!
Forgot to attach:
1st file: PERFMON.html and jcgriff2.exe
2nd file: dump file from BSOD of driver verifier
Sorry I did not know where else to post this but this problem started last night I restarted my computer and now it wont running applications. And by that I mean any exe file that doesn't require and installation. What I can do is run installers and and then run the program but I have programs that are just in a files folder and they aren't running. Anyone know how to fix this?
Since it started just last night, why not try a sytem restore from three days ago. You can always reverse the system restore if you do not like the results. I think System Restore is great for those short time duration changes. I have used mine and have been 100% successful.Read other 7 answers
