"Windows cannot find the microsoft software license terms" Windows 8.1 Installation Error - Parallels

Q: "Windows cannot find the microsoft software license terms" Windows 8.1 Installation Error - Parallels

I'm trying to install Windows 8.1 via Parallels on my Macbook Pro.
I create a new VM and use the .ISO file and get the error: "Windows cannot find the microsoft software license terms. Make sure the installation sources are valid and restart the installation."
I found this question was answered here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/b1021d66-9774-4b5b-b50b-ad860c5ecc89/windows-8-enterprise-rtm-installation-error?forum=w8itproinstall
However, following the steps of the solution did not work for me. I created a blank VM and chose Windows 8.1. After this, it asks me to insert the installation disc. I cannot figure out how to use the .ISO as the source at this point. I tried copying and
pasting the path to the file and dragging the file to the VM, but no luck.
If there is a way I can install this without this error message or by somehow getting the path to the .ISO that'd be perfect.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

According to your description, I would like to confirm if you have unchecked the Express installation box.
Be sure to uncheck 'Express Installation' when installing, otherwise Windows setup will fail with an error "cannot find license terms" and get stuck in a reboot cycle.
I suggest you refer to the following link to use Parallels Desktop to install Windows 8.1.

Hi Guys

Just bought Win8 from their web page and upgraded my win7.

My problem is that I'm stuck with a hopeless resolution because I can't install any display drivers.

As the headline says : Windows can only find "Microsoft basic display driver". When I try to install Nvidia drivers I get the "installation cannot continue" message.

I seriously doubt that it's hardware fault - it worked perfectly before the update to win?8.

Sometimes in the properties for the screen driver, the chiptype is listed as Nvidia, and sometimes it just says N/A...

Intel core i3Mobile Intel? HM55 Express chipsetNVIDIA? GeForce GT425M Graphics

Here's what I've done - besides googleing for the past 5 hours...:
Updated intel chipset
Tried the guide here: How to Fix NVIDIA Driver Update Installer Error - YouTube ---- this got me a little further but as soon as it tries to access my tv the installation dies (the time of a gfx installation where the screen flickers)
Removed the windows driver.
Uninstalled old nvidia drivers.
Hopefully someone has an idea or solution to this, because frankly, this sucks!

A:Windows can only find "Microsoft basic display driver"

Hi Wizz

I had this exact issue with my asus laptop, would use the intel hd3000, but my nvidia card showed as MBDD. It took me about 2 weeks of digging thru Nvidia's website, and other sources, but eventually got it to work.

In the end i had to uninstall the device, restart, and then install the nvida driver.

You dont state if its a Laptop or Desktop, however this is the driver i used, and got it working.

Here is the desktop version

hopefully that helps

You may need to use drivers from Dell, if they've customized the device ID of the graphics adapter.

Unfortunately, the latest drivers offered at support.dell.com are for Vista. They may be worth a try. (Win8 is supposed to be able to use WDDM 1.0 drivers.) Try the installation troubleshooting compatibility mode if they won't install by themselves.

Has anyone ever had the problem when opening a Microsoft Office word 2007 file on the desktop or elsewhere and then receive the message: "Windows cannot find C: (doc)Make sure you typed the name correctly and try again." We recently added a wireless router and were able to connect online with our laptop.

All of a sudden today, we are not.

I am completely NOT a pc guru....

can anyone help?

A:Windows failed to find the well known host "www.microsoft.com" using DNS.

You are unable to utilize DNS services. These are usually provided by the ISP and are implemented in the router. You may have inadvertantly blocked these if you added a second wireless router after your ISPs router/modem. Or you could simply have had a network outage. Turn off both the reouter/modem and the router for at least one minute and then turn them both back on. Often that "fixes" transient connectivity issues.

Deploying a Windows 8.1 Enterprise image on Dell Venue 11 (5130 atom version)
Created an UEFI FAT32 USB drive (http://rufus.akeo.ie/?locale=en_US)
I replaced sources\install.wim with a customized Windows 8.1 image.
The customized image is 4,6GB large so i had to split it into 2 .swm files because of the FAT32 4GB limitation.
Setup is starting and when i want to install, the following error occured and i have to cancel the installation.
"Windows cannot find the Microsoft Software License Terms.  Make sure the installation sources are valid and restart the installation"
is there a file which points to the license terms that i can modify or something like that??

A:Windows 8.1 install from USB with multiple swm files license terms error

Hi MartinOtter,
Windows 8 and 8.1 Setup does not support split .wim files, so this might have been the original problem. The TechNet article "Split a Windows Image (.swm) File to Span Across Multiple DVDs"
has this note:
In Windows 8.1 and Windows 8, Windows Setup does not support installing a split .wim file.
And later it states:

You can apply the file to your destination computers only by using the /Apply-Image option in the DISM tool.

If you are still having issues with this deployment while using a .wim that isn't split, can you
check the log files?

Hope this helps,

I just tried to reformat and install windows XP home edition, and upon coming to the screen of "Repair" or "Install fresh copy" I received an error reporting:

Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.
Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program.
Setup cannot continue. To quit setup, press F3.

I have no idea why it would be saying this, I'm using the same computer now 30 seconds later than when I was trying to install windows.

Currently, I'm using Windows Professional x64 (this is the reason I want home, I hate not having any drivers for webcams, printers, and the like) Asus A8V-Deluxe motherboard and the harddrive in question is a Western Digital 160gb, 7200rpm, 8mb buffer SATA drive.

A:"The System cannot find the file specified" Error from Installation

I've always found this to be one of the most annoying problems you can get.

Try copying the driver files from the CD (or the entire CD) to a folder on your hard drive and install from there. Before you attempt the install make sure the printer is NOT plugged in to the computer - the setup program should prompt you to connect it. I've found this to be a very important step as the drivers won't install properly otherwise.

This is a resurection of an old unresolved Vista Post, and it also happens in Windows 7.
Original subject - Start Menu - program search issue
I use Windows Mail for my daily email tasks, and would like to be able to
open the program by using the vista search bar built into the start menu. The
problem is, when i search for "mai" it brings up Windows Mail, and I can hit
enter and load the program. However, when I search for "mail", it returns:
"No items match your search." I have it set to index both the start menu and
my programs directory, and have even tried to rebuild the index.

It seems kind of strange that Vista would recognize that when I type "mai" I
want my mail programs, but when I actually type "mail", it gets confused...
and this in turn has -me- confused.
Oh thank goodness, I've finally found someone else with the same problem.
The word I have issues with is "photo" ("phot" works great, but no results
for "photo"). Not a show-stopper, but WHY!?

I've noticed the same thing with Windows Desktop Search in Windows 7. After some experimenting I think I have the reason why, but not a fix.

It seems to em that mail and photo are probably used as "kind =" prefixes in Windows search, and even if you enter photo with out ... Read more

Hi, this is my first post but I have found tons of help on this forum before. My problem is that while installing windows 7 the error "windows could not update registry data in the installation" keeps poping up during the "Installing updates" step, right after the "Installing feature" is completed. I downloaded the several iso from this and this webpages. Also tried USB and DVD (at 1X speed). Found great help on the SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation and Clean Install Windows 7 guides, I follow them every time I try an installation. But doesn't matter what I do the error "windows could not update registry data in the installation" keeps poping up.

Since I have to keep using the laptop for work I installed Ubuntu 12.10 to finish some projects (worked fine for over a month, no problems) but now I have some days off and I want to fix this.

Other things I have tried that didn't worked
*Using only 1 Ram slot
*Make sure that the HDD is first in boot priority
*Install Win XP
*Iso without ei.cfg

I'm running a Dell XPS Studio 15 L502x laptop, so no RAID.

Thank in advance to anyone that can help me.

PD: I apologies for any misspell or error of any kind, English is not my first language. =D

Hi Guys,
Just joined this forum, but I admit I am not very technically minded, but I hope someone can help.

I recently had a virus which ersased my desktop. A friend helped get that back. I had IE and Firefox installed but they started conflicting with each other, then I couldn't click on any link or open a webpage without the message - Application Not Found. Even when I tried to open My Documents from the programs menu I got a message saying- This file does not have a programme associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel. I also got this message when I tried to access the Control Panel.
I read elsewhere that using System Restore will help, I tried it but now when I try to click on any link it says - Windows Cannot Find (Null). Make sure you typed the name correctly, etc.
I found elswhere on this forum a link to downloading a fresh version of IE 7, but it's a link, so it won't work.
I have just deleted Firefox.

Hope someone can be of help,
Many thanks in advance.

I'm receiving this error when executing some executables: "Windows cannot find "[name and path of the executable (.exe)]". Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again".
I may understand receiving such error if I were executing a "bad" shortcut, but in this case, I'm directly launching it from windows explorer. Since I'm not receiving that error for all my programs, I suppose there might be an issues in the registry or somewhere else.
I then reinstalled the software, and got the same error.
I tried launching it inside a freshly created account and I got the same error.

Here are more details about my setup:

* Windows 7 pro 64 with all updates
* AMD 3800+ with 4GB mem
* Executables: "steam.exe" ; "googletalk.exe"
* Hard drive SMART status OK
* ZoneAlarme security

I'm also using smart defrag, tuneup utilities and Ccleaner to optimize my system. I hasn't made any changes manually in the registry.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

A:Windows cannot find "...". make sure you typed... error

I would not run TuneUp utilties or otherwise tweak Win7 beyond normal system settings. It will not tolerate it and causes many problems. No one here recommends Zone Alarm that I've ever seen either.

It makes me think you might benefit from the Best Practices given here to obtain and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which are the same for retail.

In this case you may have a Default setting which has slipped. Check in Control Panel under Default settings.

If it persists and no one else has better help then I'd run SFC -SCANNOW Command
or a Repair Install

Hi guys,

I have been trying to clean install windows 10 home 32 bit on my Acer one S1003 laptop (which came with pre installed win 10 home) since two days. The installation keeps giving me the "Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation." error.

The laptop is a two in one computer with 2GB ram and 32GB flash storage and has only UEFI firmware. The usb drive I use to install windows has GPT partition scheme which I made with Rufus.

And I tried firing up a cmd and launching OOBE but that only leads to a loading screen which loads forever. Then I disabled secure boot and that didnt work either. Finally I tried to flash the bios but couldn't do it as there was no any UEFI compatible DOS version.

What's going on here? how can I install windows on this machine??

Hey everyone,
I am trying to get the REST queries to work with the sharepoint end points instead of graph end points. I first created an app with relevant permissions and have given it the admin consent. Then I am hitting the https://login.microsoftonline.com/<tenant>.onmicrosoft.com/oauth2/token?Content-Type=application/x-www-form-urlencoded end
point with https://<tenant>.sharepoint.com as resource. I am then using the access token retrieved to give the rest call to https://<tenant>.sharepoint.com/_api/v2.0/drives/b!3indYSbqZ0-hVSPnCgIZy-2xDMh7jH9AuQnEzJMc6TEfQoSJvJT-R6tT0lFBQiPr/root/delta
but it is failing with "error":{"code":"generalException","message":"General exception while processing"}}. The REST response code is 401 Unauthorized. I have filed a Microsoft support ticket but they
have asked me to post on these forms. Can someone please help me with this? I am not able to move forward because the error is pretty generic and doesn't give any additional details.

I am unable to install windows 7 onto my computer. When going to custom in the installation menu and selecting the partition and then pressing ok/install the following error message comes up:

"setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition. See the setup log files for more information."

I have tried deleting the partitions and formatting them and not formating them and many other things.
I have tried the microsoft solution which is to delete the partitions and to just install on that "unallocated space"

What can I do?

Many Thanks

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Boot into BIOS setup, reset to defaults, save changes. (If an EFI BIOS you'll need to decide if you want UEFI BIOS vs. Legacy BIOS: if UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with, or enable Legacy BIOS or Compatibility Support Module to proceed with normal install.) Set DVD drive first to boot, HD second, set SATA controller to AHCI, Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into Windows 7 installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10, or enter System Recovery Options to open a Command Box, type:

SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=102400 (for 100gb partition, adjust as desired)

Next click Install Now, then Custom install to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

Hi guys, I have really enjoyed utilising this site over the last 6 months and thought I better sign up seeing I need your help this time, as I cannot find a solution on my own!

I have been using this particular program since 2005, on XP, Vista and now Seven without a problem up until a few weeks ago. Now when I attempt to start the program I get this message pop up

I have tried totally deleting the program and all its traces left behind and reinstalling, ensuring I have admin rights, as well as compatability options to no avail.

I am stumped and as I use this program nearly every day I am currently having to use a virtual machine running xp to use it at great convenience.

Any assistance in fixing this problem will be greatly appreciated and will try all suggestions offered to me and get back to you! I have filled in as many ssystem specs as I can in case it helps
Cheers for now

Hi, welcome to the forums

Can you check your last installed updates, I'm thinking that SP1 may have broken compatability settings for the APP.

Windows XP would not boot in my wife's old computer off of her hard drive so I booted it off of my installation disk. I then instructed it to repair the windows already installed. When prompted I entered her key and it appeared to be completing the installation. I am presently trying to activate windows XP on my wife's computer by clicking Start > All Programs > Activate Windows but the activation window does not open and shortly there after I get the error message:"Microsoft Feeds Synchronization has encountered a problem and needs to close. we are sorry for the inconvenience" presumably preventing Windows XP activation. Even entering "oobe/msoobe /a" in the Run window does not launch the activation window which I once again presume is blocked by the error message.

A few months ago I upgraded my Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro via the free upgrade promotion. For the first few months I experienced absolutely zero problems. A few days ago, the "Activate Windows" watermark appeared on my screen. Upon checking my activation settings I got a notification saying that I don't have a valid digital license or product key - which makes no sense, since I got the digital license directly from Microsoft. Below is an image of the window.

The troubleshooter gave me the following message:

I also tried to reinstall Windows 10 Pro, but every time it stopped at 40% progress for the following reason:

Some other notes:

Before all this happened, I received a notification that my C: Drive needed to be repaired. I ran the drive repair utility which stated that the repair was successful. This happened about a day before I started having problems.

The only hardware change I've made since upgrading was a new GPU, with a clean install on its drivers.

I don't recall which (if any) Microsoft account I linked this digital license to. I haven't been logging into Windows with a Microsoft account.

My previous version of Windows was Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, which I still do have the product key for.

I received remote assistance from a Microsoft technician, but he wasn't able to resolve my issue. He did give me a Windows 10 Pro product key which didn't work when entered in activation settings.

"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error installing"

I've spent hours researching this error - Seems like many people have the same issue although there is no difinitive fix or known cause.

I'm hoping someone here has an answer.

Windows 7 Home Premium x64 OEM (HP)

This is not an upgraded Vista system.

It's not a specific driver related issue as it's the same response/effect be it graphics/chip set/usb/printer drivers.

Please dont suggest to flatten and re-install or run a repair install - It's not an option, I only have remote access to the unit
as it's currently in field use.

This is a machine specific issue - identical machine purchased at the same time and configured the same has no issue.

So the story.

User has been fine for weeks - no hardware of software changes except Windows Updates.

A Camera/USB connection that was working no longer does.
Tried in all USB ports

Plug in - windows announces found new hardware, tries to install drivers then fails
with "Windows found software for your device but encountered an error installing ...."

Device manager finds and identifies device although it is in the 'Unknown Device" category.

Manually updating drivers via search/internet or point directly at a driver has exactly the same effect.

Thinking this was just the camera drivers - I researched and downloaded new drivers from camera manufacturers sites

Hi Chris,
This issue occurs due to Driver software path is not specified .

If you would like to fix them one by one, please Locat and install the driver software from the c:\windows\winsxs folder.

I have had this problem numerous times in the past where the installation proceeds then ends with the messages:

During the installation of the device.
The system cannot find the file specified
and it goes into a detection loop

HERE is the solution:

Windows 2000/XP has a bug that it cannot properly detect new hardware by *.inf files, if the RunOnce registry key is missing for the following location:

This key is often used by installers to execute post-reboot programs, but sometimes they accidentally delete this key.

IMPORTANT: This article contains information about modifying the registry. Make sure that you understand how to backup and restore the registry, in case a problem occurs. Please read the linked Microsoft Knowledge Base article prior to editing the registry.
Go to Start Run and enter "regedit."

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

With CurrentVersion Highlighted, go to the Edit menu and select New Key

Name the key RunOnce, leaving everything else about the key alone.

The RunOnce key should now exist underneath the CurrentVersion key.
Once the key exists, Windows 2000/XP stops redetecting the Hardware

Hi, I just bought a Dell XPS 8500 a few months ago and recently wanted to do a clean install of Windows 8.  I have two Windows 8 USB drives.  One is a Windows 8 Pro that I bought and the other is a Windows 8 standard that came from Dell.

I only have one MSATA SSD drive installed in the machine.

When I try to do a clean install, all the steps works fine.  It proceeds fine to the last step where it copies all the files.  Then, it will give me a 10 second count down timer and restart the machine.  After the restart, I get the following error message:

The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error.  Windows installation cannot proceed.  To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.
When I click OK, the computer restarts itself and I get the same error message again.  It's like an infinite boot loop.  I have also tried the following:

Install Windows 8 Pro upgrade USB drive, same results
Install Windows 8 standard Dell USB drive, same results
Install Windows 8 standard Dell DVD ROM drive, same results

I've also tried all of the steps above with a 300gb SATA HDD that I have.  Unfortunately, same results.  I've also completely powered down the system and waited about 20 seconds.  When it starts up, it gives me the same error message again.

Also, the BIOS settings are all set to default.  The BIOS boot mode is set to UE... Read more

A:Dell XPS 8500 Windows 8 UEFI Installation Boot Loop "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error."

Hi funkmasterta,
I will suggest you to check the BIOS settings provided below to see if you have similar settings. If not you may try these settings and then install the operating system.

Go to the BIOS screen by pressing F2 at the Dell logo 4-5 times.
Navigate to ‘Advanced Tab’ and select ‘Onboard Device Configuration’.
Set ‘SATA Mode’ to ‘AHCI’.
Navigate to ‘Boot’ tab and set ‘Secure Boot’ to ‘Enable’ and ‘Load Legacy OPROM’ to ‘Disable’.
Boot Mode should be set to ‘UEFI’.
Save the settings and Exit from the BIOS.

Once the system restarts, Go to the ‘One Time Boot Menu’ by pressing F12 at the Dell logo 6-7 times.
Select the boot device under UEFI to boot.
Keep me posted with the results. I will be glad to assist you further.
