Accidently left laptop in checked baggage

Q: Accidently left laptop in checked baggage

Last week before I came to Korea, I put my laptop in one of my bags thinking it is the carry on one I have. I didn't notice that it was not in there until I went through TSA. Now after a few days, I finally found it in one of my bags and luckily, there was no damage on the outside of the laptop. Do you guys think that it is fine in the inside since the outside is not damaged too, or will I have to turn it on and find out? I will have to get an adapter for the outlet since it is a different shape, but the AC adapter supports 100-240V.

Preferred Solution: Accidently left laptop in checked baggage

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Absolutely helpless laptop owner here. Hi and thanks for your help. In a recent business trip, I didn't realize I would have to take a puddle-jumper. There was no time to re-pack and grab my laptop before the airline grabbed my roll-on bag and tossed it in the cargo bay.

When I got home, the wireless icon and the wireless antenna seem to stayed on the plane. I'm stuck tethered to a USB connection to my router. HELP!

The antenna used to toggle off and on using the blue Fn key + the F2 key. Won't toggle anymore, but will the antenna indicator will occasionally light up as if the antenna was on.

The wireless antenna icon used to be found grouped with other icons under the Network Connections - LAN/High-Speed Internet. It's missing most of the time now.

The system tray will (rarely) show the message "Wireless Network Connection (Wireless)" connected. On the rare chance I fumble my way to Network Connections fast enough, the wireless network icon is there. When I unplug the USB connector, the wireless connection disappears in under 30 seconds. Most of the time the system tray message is "1394 Connection connected."

The laptop has to be connected via USB or Ethernet cable to get wireless on the road.

I'm uploading a word doc w/ a couple screenshots. It's the best I could cobble together! Any ideas? Is my goose cooked?

About two weeks ago I was installing windows 8 64 bit on a desktop previously running win 7 64. I wanted a clean start so I checked the "Keep nothing" box (later I discovered this would not reformat my HDD but move everything into a windows.old folder). I took out the HDD from an HP Compaq6710b laptop that is used for work (I do not technically own it) and then proceeded to back up anything I wanted to keep. I did not set any preferences in the desktop's BIOS as to what to do with the secondary drive; I just plugged it in. After that was complete I started installing windows 8 on the desktop and during one of its stages I forgot that I left the laptop drive in and unplugged its SATA cable from my exposed motherboard. Whether I should have just left it in to finish and fix later or unplugging right then and there didn't really come across my mind. Nonetheless windows 8 installed just fine on the desktop.

Upon plugging it back into my work laptop, nothing unusual popped up before the login screen. Now my appropriate username was still saved but when I tried logging in with my usual password it tells me it's incorrect. The OS on the laptop is XP Professional with the latest service pack (I'm assuming). I tried typing in old passwords, pressing ctr-alt-del twice, and even my username and password for my desktop but nothing works. After plugging it back in to the desktop to possibly restore it I received a couple messages from the windows 8 OS infor... Read more

Hi frnds,
My Laptop cant detect any wifi connections.I have already tried Updating Network Adapters, its all Up-to-Date.
My Problem in brief - Few days ago I downloaded a Nvidia gfx update for my Card (Geforce GT 720M 2GB) with Win8.1(updated using a update previously downloaded from Win8 to 8.1). After Installing Nvidia driver update all my Games was unable to run,so i searched for it, I found that my Intel drivers are out of date as i was using latest Nvidia drivers,so I tried to download Intel drivers but the installation says that these drivers r not compatible with my device(i dont know wtf happened), Then I shutdown my Laptop.

Next Day I started my pc, I shows a blue screen just before the Login page of WIndows, Its Says..."Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you. (100% completed)"
under which error was given - VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE (igdkmd64.sys)".
I waited for 15min but the blue sceen was stilll there. I restarted and it was again blue...I started using f8, recovery etc...login to system somehow...then got its solution by something to do with memory sump setting.and now its all gone...

But my games were still not running and so many programs stopped working showing "BEX" as error and after few days I wasnt able to connect/identify to my wifi hotspot. even newly installed games wasn't running...

Device Manager

Please Post back the results in device manager as requested below

You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC.
Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the screen shot and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.
If you do not have another PC - do you have a phone connected to the internet - can you photograph the result and post the image in a reply

how to access device manager for different windows versions

Hold the Windows key and press Pause key, should now open to allow device manager to be seen, see the menu on the left hand side

on a laptop you may need to use Hold the Windows key and press FN key + the pause key

If the above does not work then
For Windows 8 or Windows 10

If you happen to be using a keyboard with Windows 8, the quickest way to open Device Manager is via its shortcut on the Power User Menu, accessible by pressing the WINDOW key and the X key together.

I wonder if someone out there has techy info for me regarding a problem I have with my home computer. To explain what happened. I have a PC with windows xp which contracted a virus. Worried that I wouldn?t get complete rid of the virus and to get the files from my harddrive I bought an external box, took out the harddrive and fitted into the external box. I then installed a new harddrive and done an XP system restore which worked fine. Here is where my problem is. I checked the external harddrive (my old harddrive) on my VISTA laptop which I was pleased I was able to see the files I clicked on one file which it then asked me about permissions and clicked and continued to click through them to see the files, which seemed fine. Then when I connected the external harddrive to the XP PC to pull over these files I can?t open them at all I assume because I?ve done a permissions thing on Vista. I?ve tried putting them on a pen drive which doesn?t work, even trying to email them as an attachment. Do you know how I can get them to open on my XP pc so I can pull them over? Do I have to change some permission?s on the folder file on the Vista laptop before I can then open them on the XP PC? After this I want to uninstall Vista on the laptop and install a version of XP, so I don?t have this problem again, it?s a nightmare any advice would be appreciated.

A:files from External HDD to XP PC having checked the folders on a Vista laptop

All I've done really was take a HDD out of XP PC put into external box checked the files are theer on vista laptop although did open a file by doing the security tab and taking ownership. So now I go to get the files back of the external drive onto the new HDD i've put in the XP pc and the particular file I took ownership in Vista won't open on the XP. How do I fix this??????? HELPP

I put the laptop to sleep and then wake it back up. It also un-checks it when I restart my laptop. Any idea what is causing this to happen since it is very annoying. This doesn't happen with Windows XP...

A:Box won't stay checked for my laptop to automatically connect to my wireless network.

First, please try to update the network adapter driver to latest version to check the result.

Meanwhile, when trying to connect the Wireless network, please check the ?Start the connection automatically? option. Then, when you trying to connect certain Wireless network next time,
it should connect to the Wireless network automatically.
Hope this helps.

I recently bought an HP laptop at Costco online. They let me configure it, and I put in one of the high end, 512 MB video cards. I love the games. I wonder if that exacerbates the problem. Gets pretty warm under my left hand, where it rests on the laptop. Is there any solution for this? Any gizmo or add on that would help this problem?
I could conceivably return the laptop, but I hate to. Any input is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I bough a Samsung R580 and 7 month's after I bought it the left click started to not work I was advised to do a full restore (set it back to factory settings) so I did this and it worked for a few month's then it happend again so I deleted a program I thought may have cause this and it worked again for ages then it just happend recently so I did a scan and deleted malware and it worked, but a few days later it happend again so I did another full restore and now its working fine I phoned samsung about this and they told me that I should email the receipt to them so I can send it to get checked just incase its a hardware issue. Thing is Im sure my guarantee has run out Im waiting on the catalogue I bought it from to send the proof of purchase. I wish Samsung would have told me to send it to be checked month's ago. Do you think this is a hardware issue? Could it be a software problem something I am downloading or a program I am installing as I said after doing a full restore (third one) its working fine. I really hope it isn't the hardware and Im annoyed that they didn't tell me to send the laptop in month's back if that's the case and I am terrified of what my husband will say as he told me to send it back even though they said its ok

A:laptop left click

This is the respomnse Samsung gave me:

Customer said a while ago after she downloaded a video the left click
button stopped working. She done a restore and it worked properly for
months, however recently it stopped and started working again. I
advised customer this is more than likely due to any software she is
downloading due to the correlation and that a restore should fix it if
it happens again. Customer will call before warranty is up if there are
any more problems.

Hey all, sometimes my touchpad will not let me left click at all. I can move the cursor and right click though. Connecting an external usb mouse does not help the issue, but a reboot fixes the problem. Think its a driver issue, using Synaptics PS/2 port touch pad, and its up to date. Any ideas? A:Cannot left click on laptop

Did the problem surface after updating any drivers ?

Sometimes windows updates or intel updates alter the way some software/hardware interacts especially some OEM softwares( if so uninstall or remove any such update)

If this is the case then you first have to locate the update which is causing the unnatural behaviour of your touchpad and then uninstall it.

A:left click not working on laptop

Seeing the external mouse works correctly and the internal does not, my guess is you have hardware failure. In other words, you may have to replace the part. One way to verify this would be to download a live OS, burn it to CD, boot to it and see if it works under the live CD. If it does, you have a Windows configuration (software) problem. If not, you have a hardware problem.

In order to boot from the CD, your BIOS needs to be set to look for boot files on the CD first, before the hard disk.

I went to the grocery store and brought all the groceries in. Didn't realize my wife took out her laptop and left it on the table. I put the groceries on top of her laptop like an idiot. Something cold was on her closed laptop for like 30 minutes.. We haven't started up the laptop... Letting it thaw in other words.. Is my laptop done? What should I expect or do?

A:Left something cold on top of closed laptop... Help

Hi: It is very possible that nothing happened to it, as long as the groceries didn't weigh so much as to damage the screen or any internal parts. Just let it get to room temperature, cross your fingers, and turn it on.

I own an HP notebook (windows 8)(serial code)[Personal Information Removed](Model) 2000-2b89WM(Product) C2M4ZUA#ABAand the left mouse button key has fallen off. after usage the key began to sink inot the laptop until it compleatly fell off.I want to know if there is a way to get the key repaired or compleatly replaced? Thank you for your time.

A:Reaplacement left mouse button for laptop

You have to replace the whole top cover.   (4) Top cover(includes TouchPad):For use with Compaq models 689696-001For use with blue HP models 689694-001For use with black HP models 689695-001   Here is the (black) part on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/GENUINE-HP-2000-2B89WM-2000-SERIES-PALMREST-TOUCHPAD-TOP-CASE-COVER-689695-0... Here is the Service Manual: Manual Take a look at the picture of the backside of the top cover in the eBay auction. If you still have the left mouse button they sometimes can be reseated and repaired but it will still require just about the same disassembly as replacing the top cover.  If you need more help post back. If the answer has solved your issue please click "accept as solution" so other people can find it later.

Hi all, I am curious about any possible damage that might happen to a laptop battery if after the battery has been completely charged, it is left plugged in.

I've been told that I should remove the battery if I'm going to leave it plugged in because it may overheat and become damaged. Could someone shed some light on this for me please?

PC keeps freezing when I leave it unattended for a while (10-15 mins). The entire keyboard becomes unresponsive - No Ctrl+Alt+Del, no Alt+F4, no cursor movement using the touchpad either. Pressed CAPS LOCK / Num Lock to check; they didn't respond too. So, I have to Power off my PC by pressing the power button for about 5 secs (!!). There's no such problem when I am continuously working on the PC, doing any task. Neither is there any problem when a video is being played. Only when it stays idle does it freeze. Has it got something to do with the power options ? Saw it in some forum online, don't remember now. Thanks in advance for any help

A:Left Earphone Not Working When Plugged Into My Laptop

Are you plugging them in all the way? If you only have it partially plugged in you will only get one side.

Does the built in speakers work OK? and have sound from both speakers?

So basically My laptop which is about a year old started making this weird noise which seems to be coming from the left of the laptop. This sound is constant from the moment i hit the power button. it sounds like how static sounds. its very faint but increases sometimes. it started when i kinda half threw the laptop on the bed. it made a click kinda sound when it landed. after that i switched it on and the sound starts. its coming from the the place on the left where there is a vent like outlet. and the noise increases if i push down on that part of the laptop. Audio Of the noise. Any help would be appreciated. is it fan or hard disk? P.S the noise stops when i tild the laptop at a certain angle. Thanks

I'm not a computer person, so I apologize in advance if I get terms wrong. All information regarding specifications are from the HP Support Assistant.  I have an HP Pavilion G6 Notebook (Product number A4A93UA#ABA)I'm running Windows 7 (64-bit)My microprocessor (if this matters) is an Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2430M CPU @2.40GHzI have 4GB of system memoryThe pointing device is Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPadHopefully I didn't miss anything important. I'm having a few problems, mainly the left mouse button isn't working at all. I've searched and searched for an answer but I can't seem to find one. The touchpad itself is working perfectly. I can double tap to click, tap and drag to highlight, etc. The right mouse button is working fine as well. It brings up a menu everytime like it's supposed to. The left button on the other hand, isn't working at all. I've had the computer for about 6 months, so my warranty is still in tact. I was just hoping to find a simple fix before I go through the process of sending it back to HP or Best Buy. At first, the left button seemed laggy. It would work sometimes, and not others. Then it stopped completely (all within a time frame of a few days) This happened about a month ago. Since then, I've been searching for answers, and just dealing with it. even though it's super annoying!  Another thing I've noticed is that around the time that the mouse button itself has stopped working, my start menu was cleared out entirely.... A:HP Laptop left mouse button not working

I want to say it is a hardware issue but the thing about part of the menus disappearing makes me wonder if it is a virus. I would try a Windows preboot environment CD like Hiren's and see if the mouse works with different software. But that is a longshot and the likely answer is that the mouse circuit board is bad. The only other thing you could try is a factory restore.

The left hinge of my laptop has suddenly come off due to which the whole screen and back cover keep opening up. This is ridicculous since i have used the laptop very carefully. This looks like a design flaw and HP must repair the laptop or replace it for me.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 with Vista SP2. She was running McAfee for years with no problems. However, she decided she didn't really need it so she didn't renew it.

There were so many things poping up that I couldn't even get it to a point where I could post even via Safe Mode, which is what I'm in right now.

I did run a few scan so I hope you don't get upset if I post them here.

I'm very interested in learning how to do this for others so any hand-holding/explaining is appreciated.

Oh, does not appear one can attach files on this forum so I'll hold off on those.
Let me know what you'd like me to run.

Much appreciated.

A:Vista Laptop - many things removed, more left?

Oh, just for a few things that were found and removed -- at least they said they were removed....

rootkit.tdss (I was running this)

Also had this silly thing saying it was a Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool (KZB890830) that wanted to run but when it did, it spammed the screan something fierce: C:\windows\system32\mrt.exe /R /RE

Also ahd some chkdsk errors that were fixed on files spwizeng.dll & spwmp.dll & spwizeng.dll

Had a Trojan.win32.Agent.hicv in R198174-1.exe

trojan horse

Also had some silly TelevisionFanatic bar along with other videoscavenger stuff.
