I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I'm getting a new system, and I want to wipe out Windows 7 and install Windows XP on my old system. I have not actually done anything yet--Windows 7 is still installed--but I'm trying to understand what I need to do.

I don't have a floppy drive, so I want to try the nLite slipstream procedure.

Unfortunately I've looked everywhere I can think of, and I have not found the SATA drivers. My motherboard is an MSI X-58 Pro-E (MS-7522)3.0, and my hard drive is a Western Digital Raptor 300GB 10,000 RPM Model No.: WD3000GLFS. I've looked at the MSI site, the Western Digital site, and the CyberPower site. I've looked in my Windows 7 installation disk. I've made numerous searches on the Internet....I just can't find those drivers, or the .inf file(s).

My PC manufacturer did not send me any floppy disk or CD having drivers for either my motherboard or my hard drive. I have submitted an email to Western Digital customer support, but today is Saturday, and I do not expect a reply before Monday.

Where can I find those drivers? (and the .inf file(s)).

A:I canNOT find the drivers and the .inf file(s) for my hard drive.

Welcome to SevenForums

You should be able to find the driver you need at the manufacurers site under chipset drivers.
http://www.msi.com/product/mb/X58-Pro-E.html#/?div=Driver&os=Win7%2064

Their is no specific driver needed for your hard drive.

Once you have iinstalled you chipset drivers you can install the XP as usual, just insert the disc format and install.

Hello!
I need to know if anyone can help me find Canon "mf drivers" in my laptop. I am trying to re-install Canon MF3240 printer. It's telling me "an older version of mf drivers exists in this computer. uninstall the older version of mf drivers, and then try to install again." There is no canon folder on my machine anymore. I can not follow the --all programs-canon-mf drivers instruction anymore! Need to manually find it. Please help!

A:How to find and manually delete "mf drivers" from my hard drive?

When such happens with printers...it's often because a process left behind by the uninstall effort...still relates to removed hardware.

I'd take a look, using a Speccy snapshot.

I have a customer's Satellite L305D S5895 laptop. This was shipped to me by the customer who tried to install Windows XP Pro, Vista and none would install. He said he tried all installation CDs he had and finally gave up on it and shipped it to me.

When I got it the partition were deleted so I tried to install Win 7 and when I do doing a custom install I get an error saying the hard drive can't be formatted on disk 0 or it will give an error that no hard drives were found.

I reset the bios to default and no matter what I do it won't format or find the harddrive. I was going to upgrade the bios but the only way I found to upgrade the bios is after windows is installed. There is no way to make changes to the bios for settings that would have to do with the hard drive. This has a Toshiba MK2546GSX (S1) hard drive.

When installing Win 7 I get the normal windows, "windows is starting", "Select Language", "Select System", "Type of install", "Custom Install", "Delete partitions", "New Partitions", "Format", then the error message "Windows cannot format a partition on disk 0. Error: 0x80070057"

This happens regardless what system I try to install. I've tried two different versions of XP, one of Vista and 3 Win 7 and each time a different install CD.

I just installed a brand new Western Digital Hard Drive 160 gig. I partitioned it with FDISK, then formated, then did a clean install of windows XP. Everything was fine until after i finished the installation, and i tried to connect my old maxtor 20 gig so i could transfer some files over, and the computer stopped reading both hard drives. When i start it up, the computer can't boot from either drive. I've tried disconnecting each of the drives and only booting with one connected, with no luck. I also tried changing the gray strip, I can't remember what its official name is, but that didnt help either. When I go into BIOS and let it auto detect my drives, It wont recognize either of the drives.

Hi there
for nearly every Sony Vaio model use the ASIAN Site -- they've even got hard to find stuff like the drivers for the Dual Sony MMC SDHC card reader.

Original Drivers and Applications for VPCEH/EJ Series (Windows 7 64-Bit) : Download : Sony Asia Pacific

(Other models too -- I was just chasing down stuff for a model I've been using).

Forget about those VILE sites that sucker you in to "Free Driver Search" -- and when they find something you have to PAY to access the relevant area (We call this stuff "Sneakerware" and it's becoming more and more prevalent - they say FREE DOWNLOAD-- but that's all that's free is the Download !!!!!)

Don't use DriverMax or sites like those any more. All this stuff is FREEWARE anyway.

I use two hard drives, a smaller one that runs XP and a larger one for primarily storage. I replaced the storage drive...this had been the "first" drive and was labeled c: while the one running XP was labeled d:

I installed the new drive and rebooted. In the process, the volume labels flipped: the primary drive became c: and the storage drive becoming d:

This has thrown Windows into a world of confusion and all previously installed programs show up as uninstalled. They are still there in "program files" but many of them refuse to open, reporting not being able to find .dll files which I can search for and find on the computer.

Is this a registry issue? Is there a way to reconcile it without installing all this software again?

Switch back to AHCI and download the SATA AHCI driver here: Acer Support: Downloads & Support Documents - Notebook / Aspire / Aspire 5942G

Save it on a USB flash drive or blank disc and install it when asked.

You also need to upload your mini-dump files so that our BSOD experts can check it out for you.

Hi,

I just purchased a new Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop, it has a TS-L633C DVD-RW drive.

I updated the DVD drive firmware to a version available on Dell's website (original D300, current DW10).

Now every time Vista starts, the "found New Hardware" wizard opens and attempts to install drivers for the DVD drive (which it doesn't find).

The drive functions perfectly, it appears in "Computer", and I am certain there are no drivers that need to be updated.

How do I get Vista to stop nagging me to update the drivers ?

Thanks!

Hello everyone,

just now I tried to boot my pc when he "told" me he couldn't find the requested boot device. I checked my BIOS settings: the hard drive was selected as my primary boot device, as normal. When I had a look at the "devices" tab, I saw a list of the available SATA's. SATA 2 was my CD-ROM drive but SATA 1 wasn't recognized.

In short: my BIOS settings don't seem to be wrong but the computer just can't find the hard disk. I haven't made any hardware changes recently.

As always, any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

I was wondering if someone on here could help me. I was trying to find out my hard drive speed as it is the lowest score on my setup. I downloaded a small speed checker program and ran it. It was set to read mode and was writing a log file. I then switched it to write test and got a message saying the it would destroy data, I assumed it meant the log file and clicked ok.

All seemed well until suddenly the computer restarted. It then could not find the systems files. I checked the bios and found that it was trying to boot to "apti drive", whatever that is, and so I changed it back to my hard drive. Still it wouldn't fire up.

I have been looking through the forums and have put in the win 7 disk and tried to repair it, also bootrec, bootsect/ mbr, nothing works.

I downloaded an updated bios file which seems to have loaded ok.

I am showing a hard drive in setup and everything looks fine. When I am in cmd prompt and try to change to C drive, it doesn't recognise it. In cmd the drive is showing as X, all I can get is my cd drive which has changed to D.

It is as if my hard drive has vanished. I am assuming that the program wiped my start up files, but I can't understand why I cannot reinstall them. I also tried to reinstall win7, but it can't find a drive to install to. I am getting a bit desparate now please help.

It looks like my hard drive has just vanished.

I have a Compaq Presario S4020WM and 40 Gigs is no longer enough for me, after 4 years. I'm wanting something bigger. Compaq said it must be 5400, but I think the computer may accept 7200 RPM. They also recommend 120 GB, but I think I can have more than that. Can I? I looked at WalMart and Newegg, but can not decide on one. I'm planning to be a DJ for a radio station, so I need at least 100 Gigs, but I would like to have 200 Gigs or more. I just want to make sure I get a hard drive that will work for my computer.

Plus, do I need to increase the wattage of the power supply? The limit is 200W, so I am not sure.

Thanks.

Thunder

A:Help me find a hard drive, please.

I have never had any problems replacing 5400 RPM drives with 7200 RPM driver. They are just a little bit faster. I had a 5 year old HP with 866MHz processor and 40GB IDE HD. I bought a 7200 RPM, 300 GB, 16 MB cache HD and put it in there just fine. Windows read the entire 300GB on one partition. I don't see why a big 7200 RPM IDE drive wouldn't work for you either. HD space is actually quite cheap now days, you should be able to find the storage space you're looking for at around $100. Here are my 2 personal favorite sites to shop PC parts, because of the nice price comparison:

http://www.pricewatch.com
http://techspot.pricegrabber.com/search_attrib.php?page_id=11

I think you need an IDE drive (or EIDE), not SATA (Serial ATA)

I think this is your computer:

Perhaps you could explain precisely WHY you might want to wipe your hard-drive, especially if you cannot (apparently) reinstall the Operating System? For a discussion about how to find out what files are on your hard drive, this thread seems important:http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/221865/how-to-find-out/Regards,John

I'm doing a complete install from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional (apparently a simple upgrade isn't possible). But the installation never gets started, because when it asks me to select a drive to install to, the list is blank. It can't find my hard drive, and there's no way to direct it to do so.

This is odd, because Vista has always run perfectly for me, and I've never experienced any issues. All of my Windows updates and drivers are current, Microsoft Security Essentials is disabled, and still Windows 7 can't seem to find my C drive. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Upgrade is possible. Run setup.exe when Vista is up and running. Close all apps including 3rd party firewalls and antivirus before doing so.

Hi Everyone,
I installed a new Seagate 160g sata hard drive on my PC but it's not showing up. I found it in the device manager but not in my computer and I didn't see it the post. My Western Digital IDE 60g is still hooked up as the master and the new sata is on the primary sata connector. I have also tried it on the secondary. Seagates disk wizard can't find it,Acronis can't find it. Please Help!

I have off-brand computer with a MSI ms-7125 K8N NEO4-F (PCB 3.0) motherboard. My SATA hard drive has Win xp pro sp3. After running w/o problems I booted the computer up the other day
it said DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER. I took the hd and and hooked it up to another computer and it was recognized. I placed a brand new SATA hard drive into the computer and I received the same error.
When I go into the Phoenix/Award BIOS there is no recognition for SATA drives except if I wanted enable a RAID configuration.
I updated the BIOS and I received the same error.
I put a IDE drive and it worked great.
I tested the SATA controllers via PC-Check 6.21 software and the hardware passed without any errors.
I also switched out the sata cables coming from the motherboard to the drive.

I would appreciate any understanding on why a good hd is now not being recognized. Though I could stick with a IDE drive I would prefer to use the good SATA drive that I have that contains all of my information.

Well...I don't know...but when the system starts acting strangely...and it revolves around the BIOS/hardware...I think "CMOS battery".The fact that your BIOS/CMOS settings are not normal...lends support to my perception. It will cost less than $5 to see if that's the problem.CMOS Battery Replacement - http://www.liverepair.com/encyclopedia/art...cmosreplace.asp Let us know .Louis

You probably forgot to partition the drive so you can actually use it. What OS are you running?

I just installed Windows 7 today, and while everything else has gone smooth, I can't get it to find my 2nd internal hard drive. It has no problem finding my externals and my dvd burners, and I have read through the forums and went to the Computer Management -> Storage -> Disk Management, only to find that the hard drive wasn't there. It is showing my primary drive and the two externals, but not the second internal drive. I went into the BIOS to see if it was being detected there, but to be honest, I'm not familiar enough with the BIOS to fool around with it.

Any suggestions? And yes, the 2nd internal hard drive was there on Vista before I installed Win7... I just have no clue as to why it can't access it now. Also, yes, I have already checked all of the cables. Everything works fine and was working fine until I installed 7.

Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the Seven Forums! sortoffaerygirl

Your problem reminds of what was happening on the last custom case here where one storage kept disappearing while known to be in top working order. The solution was examination of the sata data cable found only slightly lfted up in the port at the board end of it.

The drive was seen in the bios post screen but not even in the Disk Management when it vanished and then returned until going over things like that assuming it could have been a cable gone bad. Sometimes a little dust or dirt will get in there over time from the warm up and cooling off along with the need to clean things up with a can of air cleaner.

First make sure both ends are all the way in. If nothing try another cable to see that's all it is. Generally unless a drive fails completely it's always some little thing like that.

I am attempting to either repair or reinstall XP Home Edition SP2 on a friends laptop. After booting from the XP CD and getting to the Install or repair option both give me a message that it cannot find the Hard Drive.
The Hard Drive does appear to be working. When booting up normally an option screen appears with two choices of operating systems to start. Both are Windows XP Home. One Version works but doesn?t have any of the computers files available. The other option gives an error message that says the file <Windows Root>\system32\hal.dll is missing or corrupt.
I was attempting to either repair the broken version of XP and save the data on the laptop, or if needed wipe the whole thing and install one lone version from scratch but in either case I am stopped by the "cant find the hard drive" problem
The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1525

Thanks

A:Repairing XP -Cant Find Hard Drive

The message that the system cannot find the hard drive could mean several things.Go into the BIOS/Setup...and see if the hard drive is properly reflected on the main page. Then go to the <<One Version works but doesn?t have any of the computers files available. The other option gives an error message that says the file <Windows Root>\system32\hal.dll is missing or corrupt.>>Worth reading, IMO: XP FAQ, Two XP Installs On Same Partition - http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/xpfaq.html#20 It sounds to me as if you have attempted a repair install and actually wound up with two installs on the same partition.First thing I suggest...boot into the install that works...then follow the guidance for running chkdsk at XP FAQ, Two XP Installs On Same Partition - http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/xpfaq.html#20. You only want the directions for Starting Chkdsk, only the item marked 1.After you reboot the system, the command will execute...before booting into XP.When the command is done, the system will again present you with the two choices...try the one which previously gave you the error message.Louis
