I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I wouldn't say I'm new here. I have creeped on these forums for quite a while, searching for solutions to my own problems. When this problem came up, I figured it would be best to post here.

As the title says, I made the mistake of updating as many drivers as I could with DriverPack Solution. Now, at seemingly random times (could be ten minutes, could be five hours), I get a blue screen. When it first occurred, I did indeed panic. I thought that possibly DriverPack dowloaded a virus posing as a driver. So, I ran MSE, MBAM, among many other AV, AM programs. They all came up with nothing. I can only assume that it isn't a virus, but an incompatible driver.

Anyways, if anyone wouldn't mind taking a look at files and giving me some direction here, that would be greatly appreciated.

Completely uninstall the existing NVidia driver, then once you reboot visit this site to automatically find the appropriate driver:

Generic advice : only download drivers from the manufacturer sites - don't use bulk driver sites such as DriverPack Solution.

This desktop has Win XP Pro service pack 2.
Have had weird crashes with different programs used getting exception codes.
I normally use Firefox 3.x as browser but I thought maybe a fix would be to check Microsofts update website.
To do so I used IE 7.

MS update page says
Files required to use Microsoft Update are no longer registered or installed on your computer. To continue:

Register or reinstall the files for me now (Recommended)
then has a error code and goes to download again. and back to above.

MS update program is functional and started
I even went so far as to manually download SP3, it fails to install
I then installed Win XP Pro ( a overwrite and not blowing out all existing other programs)
that did nothing in allowing MS updates to work
Reinstalled the MS update program, made no difference

BIT protocol is working as needed for MS update program

In internet searching slants that the win XP has been hijacked and windows update is prevented from working ?

I downloaded the hijack program mentioned on this forum and results below

any help as I have a lot of software used in my work no longer supported and do not want to have to reformat and start all over again
At this point cannot do any MS updates, and have odd failures when running certain programs and vendors say not due to their software which had worked fine for years before this on this desktop

Many thanks for any help

Not sure what this log could pinpoint as to what the problem is

A:Windows 7 - BSOD occurring randomly

I see both Ad-Aware Antivirus and Microsoft Security Essentials installed. They are likely causing conflicts by trying to access the same system files or use the same system resources simultaneously.
Crashes are pointing to memory problems or driver conflicts. If you are overclocking any hardware, please stop.

Run the boot version of Memtest86+ paying close attention to Parts 2 and 3 of the tutorial. Also, in case Memtest86+ misses anything and comes up with no errors, run the extended version of the Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool for at least five passes. These you may want to run overnight since they take a long time to complete (run them an hour before bed each of the next two nights and check before going to sleep that they are still running).

Before you proceed with the following, answer these two questions: Are you still under warranty? Does your warranty allow you to open up the machine to check hardware? If you are unsure of the answers to these questions, contact your system manufacturer. WARNING: The steps that follow can void your warranty!!!

Hi all,

New to the forums, first post as I had looked through other threads to try and fix a problem I have been having, and it looks like a lot of people here are quite knowledgeable on these issues.

System is as follows:
AMD Phenom II X4 B55 3.6GHz
4 x 2GB Geil DDR3 1600 PC12800 CL9
MSI HD7950 Twin Frozr Video Card
Sandisk Extreme 240GB SSD (System Drive)
Corsair HX750 PSU
Corsair H100 CPU Cooler

Nothing is overclocked anymore.

I am on my 5th fresh install of Windows 8 Pro WMC build 9200 64bit.
On every install I have been experiencing the same problems and instability.

Never had any dramas on previous windows 7 installs.

The computer seemingly runs fine for a period of time, usually 2 or 3 days, then all of a sudden I am plagued with BSOD's with varying messages. Page fault in non page file area ntfs.sys seems to be the most regular however.

I have removed all other HDD's from the system to see if that fixed the problem, but I still had BSOD's.
I have updated the firmware on my system drive (Sandisk Extreme 240GB SSD running on SATA port 1)

My motherboard (Asus M4A87TD/USB3) bios has been updated to the latest revision.

I have installed the AMD videocard driver instead of running the version included with Windows to see if that helps.

I have disabled all startup services that were not microsoft and done the same for programs running at startup.

I have run all the system updates in windows update.

So for the last few weeks, I've been having BSODs pretty oftenwith this error. Sometimes I can go days without it happening, but sometimes it can occurs 4-5 times in 24 hours. I've updated Windows Update, all my drivers are up to date, I've run sfc /scannow and chdsk -f, etc. etc. but everything seems to be fine. I downloaded both Avast and MalwareBytes the other day and now my dumps tell me that software conflicts with AvastSvc.exe (error code is 0 - STATUS_SUCCESS so it's the only conclusion I've been able to come to) are the cause but BSODs have been occurring since over a month before they've been installed so I sincerely doubt either of them are the cause.
My most recent dumps have been:

a bad block in the paging file or disk controller error. Also see
If the error status is 0xC000000E, 0xC000009C, 0xC000009D or 0xC0000185,

I have been getting random BSOD when my computer is running or it is idle, it really seems to have a mind of its own when it happens. I have done a disk check and have run memtest86 (5pass) and it came back with no errors.

The current setup I use is :
Intel Core i5-4670 [email protected] 3.40 GHz
Kingston Hyper x 1600(2x4GB) RAM
Gigabyte GTX 760 OC (Graphics card)
Gigabyte GA-Z87M-D3H (Mobo)
Corsair CX600M
Samsung SSD 250GB 840 EVO (Primary)
Seagate Barracuda 2TB Hard drive

The Samsung SSD is the primary drive I use for Windows and most of my files and the Seagate is used for larger files.

I just built this computer a few weeks ago, all parts are brand new.
I suspect it is a driver problem.

I would appreciate any troubleshooting help I can get on this.

Thank you!

I built a new system from scratch (I hadn't done that since the 90's, but I'm capable and everything went together just fine). i5 Processor, Gigabyte Motherboard, 8gb ram, Raedeon 6750 vid card (the one piece of hardware I already have).

But I've had nothing but trouble over the last 2 months since I put it together. I get constant and RANDOM BSODs. Some have occurred during games, others web browsing, others while I'm afk (I just come back to the user select screen and a new mini-dump..)

I have:

Replaced the RAM, sent the motherboard back to Gigabyte and gotten a replacement, installed on my SSHD (current) but also used my 1TB drive just to test if it was the SSHD--no fix there. I've taken out my video card and ran on the onboard--no fix. I uninstalled and reinstalled windows three times. The latest with a different fresh copy--and so far the errors seem to have become MORE frequent.

I am currently running fully updated Windows 7 64bit Professional... and I'm going to cut this short so I don't get a BSOD that makes me lose all this...

I NEED help, direction, sympathy, etc. Any direction on potential fixes and helping me narrow down the culprit (hardware or software) is greatly appreciated.

Save the report as an .nfo file, then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.
Also, save a copy as a .txt file and include it also (it's much more difficult to read, but we have greater success in getting the info from it).

Please open an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt and type (or copy/paste) "systeminfo.exe >%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\systeminfo.txt" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Then navigate to Desktop to retrieve the syteminfo.txt file. If you have difficulties with making this work, please post back. Then zip up the .txt file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.

Hello folks, I'm new here, but you have been recommended to me as quote: "Knowing a thing or two about computer viruses and removal". Looking round this seems to be the case so I wonder if you might be able to help me.

Windows XP most recent service release. 40GB HP portable some years old.

Portable runs Zone Alarm anti virus/firewall (subscribed to) as standard, and router has firewall running. Sometimes runs on wireless internet through the home network served by that router and v.occasionally via a 3G dongle.

I've been having problems with a lack of space on the hard-drive. Got cross yesterday and went for a thorough search to see if I could find the missing space. The missing space turned up in a sequentially numbered set of .tmp files in the c:\windows\temp\ folder-directory. These were numbered forwards from AV1.tmp and, wait for it.....were around half a gigabyte each in size!! Deletion of these found me over 18GB of space!! However, there was one that I couldn't delete and it wouldn't let me view the contents either - telling me that it was in use.

I restarted the system and checked the directory and it had written a new half gig file, at this point the newly numbered file became the one that was 'in use', but the old one was still there - though now easily deleted.

I've chucked the might of ZA over the system to no benefit, I've run the rkill routine and followed by antimalware byte... Read more

I had been having bsod issues for awhile last year and had gotten help on here and the problem had gone away. Before this recent string of bsods I had only had one in April and none for several months before that. I had a Windows update on the 3rd and didn't notice anything different, but beginning yesterday I began having a slew of bsods. They happened both in high graphic games, browsing the internet, and even just when sitting there. This last one happened when windows was just starting up, I think. I used DriverMax to update all of my drivers, and I even tried doing a restore point from before the update on the 3rd and that seemed to lower the frequency, but then I started getting them again. Any help is much appreciated. I'm attaching the mini dump and the requested zip file.

Such a thing may cause this type of BSOD.

I have encountered a system bug last week and seeking advice on its removal. The computer is a Gateway Model GM5424, about 1 year old equipped with an Intel CoreTM2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13 GHZ. And 2 gig. of memory. Operating system is Vista Ultimate. Also installed is Mcafee AV ? all items configured active on except for firewall which defaults to the Active on Microsoft OS firewall. The subscription to Mcafee expired this weekend. Also active is Windows Defender which continuously delivers error messages of requests to accept or deny changes.

The problem from analyzing the Windows defender history are attempts to modify Auto Start Run Keys identified as registry key entries: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\\e48f2143

This is followed by numerously different *.dll files with a new one (different file name) generated every time permission is denied in Windows defender. All *.dll files are located in the System32 directory.

The infection does not allow me to install the Panda Active Scan, nor install Hijackthis. I have been able to execute a stand-alone Hijackthis.exe. file. I can not access this web site (I am using a second computer to write this), nor access Trendsecure.com. DSS is runs a Hijack Clone but Notepad fails to run.

It may be a minor infection, or just an Error post -Install the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from This Mirror to your desktop.* Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.* At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.* Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.* When completed, a log will open in Notepad form. Please tell us if any infections were found -Thank You -

For a long time now i have been getting BSOD's, pretty much all of the time from System Service Exception and KMode Exception Not Handled. Sometimes the PC never gets to the BSOD and just freezes up and restarts. This happens at any time whether im doing nothing or on the internet, sometimes it happens before the PC can load up fully. Most of the time though it happens when i am gaming. I rebuilt most of my PC but this still carried on. The parts that i have replaces are the PSU, RAM, Graphics Card and the case as well as adding in 2 extra fans. The temperature stays withing good values. The PC also often gets stuck on the post boot screen where it says "SMART Check Capable and OK" and it will take a few minutes for it to get past this stage and carry on loading, but this doesnt happen not all the time. I have tried diagnosing this myself but i have hit a wall. I ran Seatools and the HDD failed all of the tests, however after checking the fail code this was simply because it couldnt find the serial number. The HDD then passed tests from both CrystalDiskInfo and DiskCheckup. I thought that it was either the HDD or the MB as they are the only components not to be replaced. Since HDD seems to have passed its SMART tests i am inclined to believe it is the MB. PLEASE HELP!!!

I keep getting Exception Code 3221225477 with Exception Address 005019A9 on my computer when I start it up and sometimes during my use of the computer.
It just started up after I put a cannon camera photostitch program on my computer. I have deleted. Then I did all the updateds that were needed plus cleaning out my computer(defragmenting, disk clean up, removing temporary files).
I even went in and stopped programs from starting up when I turn on my computer to make it faster and to see if it was one of them that was causing the problem. It still keeps coming up. Does anyone know why this happens?

My message comes up as

Unexpected Error
An Unexpected error has occured and this application will close. Then the exception code and exception address follows.
Exception Code 3221225477 Exception Address 005019A9

But when I click on ok nothing closes and I can work on my computer. Then sometimes during the course of working on the computer, the message comes up again but again nothing closes.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and for any replies.

My guess is that there is a Startup entry which you need to remove. Some remain behind even when a given program may thought to have been completely uninstalled.I'd use AutoRuns for Windows - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinte...s/bb963902.aspx to take a look at the items listed on the Logon tab and see if any apparently relate to your troublesome program. If so, I would delete it, but you can either disable or delete that startup item.Louis

Hi Guys,

I'm a composer working on a deadline and have started to experience quite intermittent BSOD's.
It appears to happen at higher system loads.
I'm reasonably experienced in building custom machines (this is my third on), and so far have never experienced issues with them.
This current one is a racked i7 3930K Hexacore on a Sabertooth x79, with 32gb of Ramm and a GTX470.
I'm using Nuendo 6 in 64 bit mode (Cubase's bigger brother) with an RME Fireface 800.
The fireface runs via firewire and has its own pcie card for this.
In addition there is an external G-tech drive connected via Esata.

In the last week I've been having 1-3 bsod's a day..a real productivity killer and I hope someone can help me out. I've used Whocrashed to at least get an indication of what it might be, but I don't have much experience with minidumps.

The only thing that I have noticed is that Windows is attempting a surface scan during startup, which fails due to a 'recently installed software package' I have no idea what that might be.
I've not been able to do a diskchk on C:
Regardless, C: seems to work fine and I've not noticed any issues.

Drivers are pretty much up to date.

I'm attaching a dump, would someone mind having a look and giving me a clue? Thanks in advance!

Having problems with my computer running Windows XP Pro 2002 SP3. Had a virus that attacked a different computer on our network and ran Malwarebytes, Spybot and Avast. All scans came up clean. If I leave the computer for awhile (several hours) my "All Programs" list goes away, the list of recently used applications is gone and if I try to do a Shutdown or Restart it comes back that "I am not authorized to do that". I am now also getting exception errors:
"exception unknown software exception (0xc00000fd) occurred in the application at location 0x01006a25" and "explorer.exe application failed to initialize properly (0xc000012d)". In an effort to try stop antivirus programs from conflicting with each other, I uninstalled malwarebytes and have avast running in resident and Spybot not in resident but demand only. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Will an in-place dist upgrade of a Windows/OS with Updates included embed updates in such a way they cannot be uninstalled later?

A:Windows 7 updates same for updates every time it checks for updates

See if you can System Restore to before Net Framework 4 was installed and then Hide it when it is again offered in Updates.

But be aware that some programs will need it and may not prompt you of this leaving you to guess why they are not installing or performing correctly. For this reason I always install it.

So you might want to reinstall it using its standalone installer since it may not have uninstalled correctly anyway.

Hi. I recently reformatted and set up win xp pro, then made a partition with acronis and added Win7. I did so initially with two data HDDs unplugged and an unreadable floppy (write protected) in the floppy drive. Later, with all HDDs and no disk in floppy the exception continues.

All seems well but I get the following exception when I startup XP -
c00000a3 parameters 75b6bf7c 4 75b6bf7c 75b6bf7c

Googling suggests it may be an infection, though NOD was installed pretty quickly (though there was a chance for open connection while xp updated). NOD finds no problems of consequence beyond the ask toolbar nero 6.6 offers as an option at install - no big deal. NOD scans v3 for xp and v4 beta for Win7 show no infections.

I have not used hijack this but am open to it.

The box is asus p5q deluxe, 8500 dual core, 4 gb ocz 1066 memory, nvidia 260, 300 raptor, 500 and 640 HDDs. I've installed xp lots of times, Win7 3x - this is a new issue.

I'd be grateful for any guidance.

My Windows XP Desktop was operating a little slower then usual, so I rebooted it with the Shutdown:Restart windows command. It will now only boot up to mup.sys and hangs.
I was troubleshooting and thought I would try to eliminate the mouse and keyboard as a possible cause.
I unplugged USB mouse and keyboard (This PC only has USB connections for mouse and keyboard) and rebooted the PC. The PC booted up correctly. So I got my mini laptop and tried a remote connection. The PC works perfectly as a host for a Remote Desktop as long as the PC and Mouse are unplugged.
I have tested the keyboard and mouse on another PC and they both work fine.
Any ideas of what might be corrupted to cause this problem.

First, the firewall has defaults and they become the baseline. The common defaults are:

allow nothing inbound
allow all outbound
User defined rules become the "exceptions" usually to allow more control, as in DENY all outbound and then ALLOW specific programs to access the web, eg your browser, email and any host servers. This stops many forms of virus' from "calling home"

Hi everyone, Yesterday I did a complete system restore (to factory state) of my X1 Carbon 5th Gen system.  Following the restore, I use Vantage to search for Lenovo updates - and it only finds 3 optional updates, but ZERO critical updates.  Then I run Windows Update and it also finds ZERO updates - says my system is up to date, even though the only updates it has installed are Malicious Software updates. It even keeps dropping the wifi connection, despite the wifi being perfectly stable. Have I completely destroyed this system?  Below are screen shots of the Vantage window with the BIOS and product number.  I've never had such an issue like this after a full system restore.  Thanks!

As the title says, I have problems with Windows Update. I tried some fixes like: Reset_Reregister_Windows_Update_Components, Reset_Windows_Update_History, MicrosoftFixit50362 (which is a Microsoft Installer Fixer that couldn't install PowerShell), MicrosoftFixit50202. But what I really need is installing .NET Framework 4. I tried forcing it to install, installing it step by step, but it couldn't go further than .NET Framework 3.5. I need that Framework, the other updates don't really matter. And the interesting thing is that my antivirus doesn't say that Windows is not up-to-date, which is not normal, in ESET Smart Security, if Windows is not up-to-date.

A:Windows Update stuck at Checking for Updates and can't install Updates manually

Hi antoniu200:
Many other Vista users have reported that Windows Update seems to get stuck at "Checking for updates..." for long periods of time, and this problem dates back to the August 2015 Patch Tuesday updates - see my screenshots in ScousaJAY's thread windows update just seems to hang while checking in the VistaForums. This month's December 2015 Patch Tuesday updates required a full hour on my machine before it finished the  "Checking for updates..." phase and finally presented a list of available updates, so you might want to try running a manual Windows Update and leaving your computer alone for an hour or so to see if it eventually runs to completion.
You might also want to read Nikilet's recent thread Updates were not configured correctly in that same forum.  Some Vista users, including myself, received an error message this month stating "Updates were not configured correctly. Reverting changes. Please do not turn off your computer" when they tried to install the December 2015 Patch Tuesday updates.  Six updates for the Vista OS and one cumulative update for IE9 were marked as "Failed" on my machine after Windows forced an automatic rollback and re-boot of my machine.  I re-ran Windows Update today and all Important updates that failed yesterday eventually installed successfully ("Checking for updates..." still took about one hour and I declined one Recommended update KB3112148 for Vista and one Optional update KB3106614 for Silver...
